As someone who has played both series and enjoyed them both, I think Silent Hill is a better fit. The zombie outbreaks and freakish fiends in Resident Evil come from science gone wrong, which can still be understood.
Silent Hill deals with cults, witchcraft/demon worship, reincarnation- basically the baddies and world is based in the paranormal, or that which isnβt really understood. Silent Hillβs world also exists in its own purgatory Fog, which parallels nicely with the Fog of the Entity.

Could be any number of things, but trying to complete Adept and Rift challenges are big offenders. In order to complete them, sometimes it puts players at odds with teammates or otherwise shared and coordinated goals.

I wear the Pride charm for solidarity, and I assure you the only reason Killers are giving me Hatch is because they feel sorry for me: like last night, when I was the solo left after the 3 person SWF DC'd with one down.
Also, the title of this thread, oyyyy, super aggressive. Can we all just hug instead? π€

Yeah by underleveled I mean I only play 1 killer and maybe 2 different survivors and they are level 20's. I havent gotten a single very rare perk yet and I guess some of the best ones are behind paywalls? Idk yet
If you're looking to build your perks, keep an eye on the Shrine each week. I've snapped up some nice perks that I didn't feel like grinding for. Good luck!

Rodney!!!!
Anyway, what I'd like to say is that part of the issue is solo q- when I'm playing that, I'm more terrified of what other survivors on my team will do. What happens in solo q is waaaayyyy more terrifying than a Killer. At least I EXPECT them to try and kill me. Not the rando red rank survivor farming me off death hook (felt bad man).

A less experienced yellow rank killer should not be going against red ranks. It's because of this that a lot of new players simply abandon trying to play killer because they don't get put against people on their level and aren't able to learn as well as they could if they were able to be challenged without getting dominated.
The killer should be at least near to the highest level member otherwise it's going to just be a frustrating experience and they'll likely just move over to survivor like so many others have done.
It's so hard to know if the rank is legit these days, though. A lot of ppl have taken a break since the last 2 releases, and it's making it difficult to rely on rank as an indicator.
I had a match against a very competent Trickster recently while in green/yellow ranks. They got a 4K and I messaged them to say GG and how surprised I was at their ranking- I'd guesstimated purple ranks at LEAST by their play. They messaged me back to say they HAD been a purple rank Killer and recently came back after a break.
It honestly makes me wonder how many players suspected of smurfing are actually just returning players...π€

First person ive seen in a while saying they love the grind. I try to get my friends into the game and they don't like having to scale a mountain for fun builds. Strong build theyd just need to level like bill david jake and meg. Maybe laurie to. I don't mind the grind personally because i never really experienced it starting back in 2017 i just level a new killer and survivor when they come out.
I will not prestige BECAUSE of the grind. I've cultivated Cheryl with the perks and items I want, I'm not starting over- which is also why I keep playing on console despite getting a PC π

I had a game against a 4K Trickster today, and I really noticed how different they played the character. They didn't greed the knife throws like I've seen most players do. It made me reconsider the possibility that ppl really don't know how to get the most utility out of him yet.
-
I will do it if there's multiple DC's or a Killer has accepted my mercy plea (offering my item and crouching submissively, to communicate, I'M A POTATO, PLZ DON'T KILL ME!) earlier in the game.
My 2 favorite matches were against a Hospital Meyers on Coldwind, and a Ghostface on The Game
With Mikey, I was the only person that didn't DC when we figured out it was Scratched Mirror build. I tried to get him to kick gens or destroy pallets, but wouldn't.
Ghostface was obviously going to 4K in the Game. I was on death hook, with him breaking a pallet just behind me, so I dropped my medkit and he just STOPPED. I nodded at him, and he started T-bagging, which I mimicked back. He ran off and actually let me and the other remaining survivor go.
NOW, in both cases I ran up to the Killer after opening the gates and motioned come here: Thanks for the game plz take the kill. Both times they put their back to me, refusing to acknowledge I was even visible. Honestly super precious and wholesome π
-
Since this is *supposedly* a F2P game, I would love to see daily rewards that don't require a grind or specific characters. Honestly, gacha games are great at this- the daily rewards are accessible to EVERYONE, and take very little time.
I might not have an hour to play, but I probably can spare 15 minutes. And if the matches are going well....I might actually TRY and find time to play longer π€·ββοΈ

Don't give me a flashlight. I can't blind the killer for the life of me. I've been playing this game a year, and all I can ever get are pallet blinds once in a while. If I find a flashlight in a chest, I'll see if a teammate wants it.
SHHHHH! *whispers* That's actually why I ALWAYS give away my flashlights. It's an automatic operator error in my hands π€«

Survivors that hide in the basement all match, or stand on hatch while the last player is on hook. I'm not advocating players die for altruism, but if you're hiding all match at the expense of your team, my blood pressure will rise. Repeat offenders of Self-care usage after every scratch will also enrage me, since I can see them with Kindred π
-
@Yords said:
Don't hate on the noobs, in fact try to help them (if possible).
If you see a scared Dwight hide in a locker, tell him to come out and help you work on a gen.
If you see a Claudette hiding in fear, motion for her to come on out, heal her if you can.
If you see a Meg dropping god pallets early,
sandbag her until she DC'sgive her a medkit so she will stay calm.Try the head nodding and tbags of innocence to let them know that is is okay, and that the killer is somewhere else.
People seem to REALLY hate on newer players, but don't hate on them, hate on the MMR system we have. It's not their fault for being misplaced with a bunch of veterans.
It is actually kind of funny trying to get a Dweet to help you finish generators. Instead of yelling at them in endgame chat, give them some tips. It is just really mean and dumb honestly when people get upset and tell someone they are trash at the game when they are clearly new.
I REALLY like your idea of dropping a medkit for another player. I play with the perk Plunderer's a lot so I try and drop the items for characters who have nothing in a match. I really do think it helps them feel empowered, and a good item doesn't go to waste.
-
I play a few matches a week, but I honestly am preferring to watch other ppl stream it at this point.
-
I can't disagree about the transparency- it's almost non-existant and I believe with all my heart that some GREAT things can come out of regularly engaging with the player base.
We don't even need high-level explanations for why certain decisions are made. There's a reason why writer's are encouraged to write at a 7th grade reading level- because it's the most accessible for the most ppl. Same thing here: We don't need a technical manual, just upfront answers.
-
@Mat_Sella said:
Obviously it sucks to get caught, but to be the best player you should be running around as much as you possibly can. You can spend the first part looking around for totems while you're avoiding detection, but once the killer gets their ball rolling, you and your team need to be swift to punish them during the chase.
The issue with this concept, is it ruins your ability to use Sprint Burst on command. The only time you'd be able to use SB like this, is after it cools down when you're on a gen, which can be the most useful time to have it (assuming its not on Cooldown).
Realistically, as long as you aren't idling when someone is being chased, you're doing better than most survivors out there.
I guess that's one thing I should clarify: I'm never idling. It's more I'm constantly hopping on gens/doing bones than trying to loop/engage with the Killer. But like I mentioned I'm changing up the tactics and seeing some good progress! Thanks!

Great advice.
As @Jyn_Mojito, I was playing stealthy. I still do when I see it's the better option. But before, I didn't want to be chased because I knew I would be downed in ten seconds. I watched lot of videos, hoping I would suddenly be good... Theory helped, of course, but practice is where I started to improve.
Huntress is my weakness, for instance. This morning, I looped and stunned a red rank one. I was proud of myself. She got me later though!
I still have a lot to learn. But forcing myself to get involved into chases had two benefits to me:
- It's fun. Being chased is fun! I do hope the Killers I face have fun too, trying to predict what each other is gonna do next.
- I improved and now, I'm not afraid anymore of being chased. I still am afraid of some Killers (Spirit, I look at you!), but I know I will learn.
Also, I played the whole day without perk yesterday, and it helped me too to improve. I was like, I don't rely on anything but myself. I'm not saying perks carry us, but having none, I sure focus on my gameplay only. When I will feel enough comfortable with no perk, I think I will use more variety into my builds, instead on counting on the same ones over and over.
Good luck, @Jyn_Mojito with your matches! I would like to hear about how it went with all the advices you got there.
Agree! Every time I hear the Lullaby I cringe. But like you mentioned, I tried taking out the perks I rely on and just tried some builds that might be interesting. I didn't exactly slam pallets to incite the Killer, but I tried instead to stay in the TR much more.
Can't argue with results, I feel a lot more confident and pipped more frequently. Hope your games are going great in the Fog π

Stealths okay but it lacks points. In my early days I put object of obsession on and just got chased by the killer and focused on the chase for a little while. I died a lot in the process but I didn't worry about escaping or points I just focused on getting better in chase and after a little while I learnt tiles a lot better and got a lot better at looping and it improved my gameplay a lot.
Your suggestion is actually quite brilliant...and also terrifying π³ Honestly though, thank you, that's a great way to make sure I get into chases. Nothing like being thrown into the deep end β€

Lmao, it's so accurate. @MadLordJack brought it and didn't use it, or didn't and we could've used desperately. It's like the Entity KNEW π

@PotatoPlayer said:
If you care about bloodpoints or pips, I'm guessing you'll have to fulfill the other emblems that aren't stealthy to get more. I noticed that I get many more points in games where I get chased for a long time, whether or not I get out alive, vs escaping with stealth (and my perk kit is pretty selfish and stealthy).
But if you don't care too much about that, like me, then I don't think your build is bad. Chases make my heart beat so fast I need to catch my breath hahahaha -- and my fun time trumps my personal rank or bloodpoints.
Yeah, winning for me is if I had fun during a match. I had a match today that made me realize my build was getting boring: Our team of randoms faced a competent Nurse.
She had BBQ and Nurse's Calling, and some efficient blinks. Because of the Killer's skill and perks, I had to completely change my gameplay. Gens took priority and we all had to play injured. The constant moving and uncertainty was so much fun, even tho they 4K'd us π€£

@Orion said:
Stealth is a fine gameplay style. However, if you're only hiding and unhooking, without regard for anything else, then you will score fewer points than other survivors. Personally, I tend to score fairly high in most trials, relative to other players, but that also depends on external factors.
EDIT: If you feel stealth is holding you back, or it's just not for you, then it's OK to experiment with different playstyles until you find one that suits you and your goals. With that said, you should be prepared to lose until you get it right.
Yeah, I'm prepared to lose a lot of chases. I took SB off for a few matches to force myself to really assess my surroundings for options, rather than trying to win a chase through an exhaustion perk.
-
Search for Hatch is one of my favorite activities. It really feels like a cat and mouse game, without taking into account the Killer and Survivor actions. I've been Killer trying to carry the Survivor to the Hatch, and they COMPLETELY miss my goodwill signals.
I've also been the final Survivor and tried to rapidly determine motive within seconds. Because some Killers will absolutely hook you of you struggle. It's a very intricate situation that relies on signals, and deciding if they're bluffs or not. It's kinda like end game poker- are you all in or do you keep bluffing? π€

Anything good ends up in the store anyway, so at some stage if I decide to give them money, I can get them anyway.

This is a relationship; granted one between consumer and business but one nonetheless. And for me, silence in a relationship can signal disengagement, anger, any kind of negative emotion you can imagine. And all you can do IS imagine because silence won't answer.
I've always been an advocate for communication. We don't need hand holding from the devs, but a department comprised of several employees who consistently give updates and community engagement will go SO FAR in mitigating backlash.
I just don't know why some resources can't or won't be allocated to building solid communication.
-
As bummed as I am about the delay, I would've absolutely felt insulted as a consumer if there was any game breaking bugs. So if the Chapter launches later but smoothly, patience is a small price to pay.
-
Teammates running SC is the bane of my solo q experience. I run Kindred pretty regularly, and the number of teammates I see using self-care in map corners is atrocious. It has it's time and place, but not at the expense of gen progression or saving a teammate. It's like some players are terrified to do anything unless they're at full health.
Personally, I'd rather go down setting off the last gen then being a SC potato the whole match.

If you're a newer player, you have some options available.
First, you can seek other players to SWF with (Survivie With Friends). They can be on a similar level, but the most important thing imo is your group vibes together. I've been lucky enough to find more skilled players to play with, and their advice and experience has made me a better player.
If you have interest in finding a swf group, you can post in the forums to look for a good fit. The DbD Discord is also an option, and they also offer gameplay tutors. It really depends what you're comfortable with.
If you're more of a solitary/solo q player, there's many competent Fog Whisperer's and streamers that can help you learn how to effectively juke a killer, undersrand maps, recognize Totem spawns, etc. There's much information, but no shortage of community members happy to share their experience and expertise. Just make sure you're happy with whatever path you choose π
-
There's a meta for sure, but I for one really like running Calm Spirit and Plunderer's Instinct. Plunderer's let's me enter a lobby with nothing to tilt the Killer, but since I have it leveled I often can quickly turn a situation around. Also, I might just be a hoarder π€·ββοΈ
