  • She's fun, but I struggle with her audio as I cannot hear properly in my right ear - so I sort of have to predict where people are going.

Haven’t done one of these in a while and with Sadako out, I thought I should make a new one of these. There’s not a specific order within the tiers by the way.

You and I are...very different people.

Here's mine: Top to bottom, and left to right within each tier.

Almost 6 months now the player base has been dropping on Steam even though we've had some decent content and patches over those past 6 months. We've had Hellraiser get added into the realm as well as Ringu and even though Artist wasn't a very popular original killer she was still fairly implemented pretty well and she's a decent killer.

Boons though not being (IMO) a very healthy mechanic to the game with COH, Shadow Step and Dark Theory are decent ones that were added and Exponential is situational from time to time but, it doesn't feel like these are the cause of the player drop.

The Hacker situation probably had a small part in the player base dropping with a bunch of hackers now been roaming the game more often now but, it's not really the main problem right now and it's still been SBMM that has been the issue.

SBMM nobody asked for this if there wasn't MMR in this game I'm sure the player count would be higher and yet with SBMM being in the game for almost 6 months now it's not helping the case. Hellraiser could've brought a lot of new players but, with SBMM being added to the game with the chapter it drove some players away, Portrait of a Murder wasn't that exciting of a chapter so I don't know how many players would come in for that but, it still could've brought a few in a least, and now we have Ringu very well received scary Killer brings the horror back a little to this game and yet the players might comeback for a day but, will remember this game now has MMR.

So BHVR I know you guys want to keep probably keep SBMM in the game but, why don't you guys except that this was a mistake to add in and resort back to the old matchmaking system. It wasn't perfect but it was better than what we've had now and those Bloodpoint rewards for each grade reset would've been better on the old system too.

I enjoy this game I love the killers and there unique gameplay. Survivor though being not very challenging sometimes wish there was more is still fun and getting a good chase or a player who knows what they're doing is great. However new players are having a hard time with playing killer mainly cause they get grouped up instantly with players who have thousand of hrs in the game and don't end up enjoying Killer and Survivor not so much cause they could just hop on with there friends and have a fun time maybe get scared a couple times, have a laugh, or a good chase and they don't have to worry about getting so stressed out.

To save your game BHVR SBMM gotta go.

Yes, the declining player counts are concerning, but I think that has to do with the lackluster Onryo release, a stale meta and just general falloff with the end of the COVID stuff.

SBMM...I'd wager that for every veteran annoyed by it, 2 newer players who don't have to wade through a dozen matches with smurfing SWFs to get a reasonably good one stick around.

The issue is that SBMM isn't working properly. Not SBMM itself.

I think we agree the map design needs some work, given what you said. If good survivors just optimized looping as best as they could and some of the best antiloop killers can't keep up, then that's gonna stifle what types of powers a killer can have and that also makes survivor gameplay a bit samey. I think we need more maps like Crow's Eyrie, that give us a good outdoor section with the old loops we all know and an indoor section with a viable loop that can be run any number of ways by both Survivors and Killers.

But back to Sadako - Mirror Myers has less speed and lunge range than Sadako. Much as the Teleports aren't instant, it's enough to throw off survivors and with the speed boost it gives you, it helps starting chases with an advantage. I've ended some chases pretty fast with her. Besides, she has more tools available to her to get information. The add-on that lets you know when a survivor turns a TV off helps, but it isn't necessary. The add-on to make survivors scream when they witness her coming out of a TV or becoming visible helps with finding sneakier survivors... Even her Scourge hook gives her good info. Plus, turning her terror radius on and off really helps. And because of her "passive phasing" she makes good loopers make mistakes too. Her add-ons also help with that. Also her Inexorable Stare saves A LOT of time. Got to down 2 people when I would've downed 1 if I bothered hooking today.

When I say 'Mirror Myers', I mean Vanity, not Scratched. Scratched is a terrible meme build, like body blocker Hag.

Yes, she feels okay when using some addons. That's...not an indication that a killer is fine. Even pre-rework Wraith and Clown had some decent addons.

Well looks like you are rly desperate for a win then, and tunneling is just being bad at the game it literally means you have no game sense and cant split map pressure.

So...Otzdarva is bad at the game?

    The more you know.

In all seriousness though, tunneling is a tool that killers need to have on their belt. There are ways to prevent it or outplay it. Survivor is not a solo role - you have a team for a reason.

I noticed the PTB feedback thread is closed and they havent announced changes, do they announce them a bit later or did they just decide to make none to her?

My guess is they are working on it, but bugfixes took priority (considering there were 3 game breaking exploits and bugs this patch).

  • @Triforcer said:

Playing this on any sort of killer with mobility or teleports is insane. Uncleansable, regression equal to Ruin, AND you get a free notice (good skill check) when someone is on the gen? I get 5x the use out of this that I do with ruin. Combined with PR and DMS, it almost felt unfair.

It's a nice perk, works extremely well on Wraith when combined with Pop.

That said, the meta is actually quite diverse right now. For regression, you now have literally three different paths - CoB+Pop, PR+DMS, Undying+Ruin. I think that this is a good thing.

  • Just want to update this, this bug was not fixed in today's patch.

  • I don't mind facing the Big Three, I'm just tired of an endless stream of Huntress, Blight, Nurse, Blight, Huntress, Bubba, Blight, Huntress Huntress.

    My favorite killers to face:

    • Pyramid Head.
    • Nemesis.
    • Cenobite.
    • Artist.
    • Demogorgon

Myers tends to either have an instamori addon, infinite T3 or camps at the first hook.

Ghostfaces tend to either be campy or just want to meme around.

The only killers I really loathe seeing though are Trickster (an inevitable death by spitballs), Freddy (for some reason a lot of Freddy players are just...nasty) and Bubba (maybe 4 in 5 facecamp hard).

How did the devs screw so many things up in 1 chapter? Brings me back memories when the Resident Evil chapter first came to DBD when these bugs also happened 😂

What are you thoughts on this? Do you find this funny or are you upset/mad that the devs can’t make 1 properly chapter without bugs/exploits?

This chapter was honestly a bit of a fart compared to the Artist patch (which was really encouraging to me).

Bugs and exploits aside, Sadako clearly needed more time in the oven - she feels like a mishmash of ideas, none executed especially well.

The most annoying part of this is that some killers are literally children I got tunneled just cuz I got a pallet save or sabo a hook, like how ######### dare I use a mechanic that is in the game...

Are you sure that's all you did?

I only say that because when I play survivor, there are certainly campers - but not 30 in a row.

The people I see getting camped though love to teabag or play flicky flicky with the killer after they sabo...

getting good at killer is pointless, it actively punishes you by matching you against cheaters and sweaty SWFs.

You face cheaters, sure - but not that often. At least that you'll realize.

Getting good and facing correspondingly better players is...how a game is supposed to work, isn't it? Escalating challenge versus escalating difficulty? It wouldn't be much fun to get better at the game and just stomp people - would it?

Sweaty SWFs are annoying, but unless SBMM poops itself, if you are put up against a sweaty SWF, chances are that you're somewhat sweaty yourself.

I hate to say this - but yes.

As a killer, you have to get used to the fact that you aren't really there to 'win'. You are there to curate a fun, thrilling experience for survivor players. Unless you are a 5000 hour DbD god, you shouldn't be 4king regularly - if SBMM is working correctly.

Get used to 1-2 players getting away and you'll be happier.

I dont think perks are problem they are fine. Only problem i see in this game are maps and maps only need rework they are to much in survivor favor so much safety i hope bhvr will realise that and start working on it but i doubt because people here dont give good feedback to them only thing they get is complain and 0 respect for their work

Some maps are survivor favored. One or two are killer favored (Midwich comes to mind).

Perks are...weird. Survivors have a handful that are so good that not using them is basically playing the game wrong. Killers, on the other hand, are locked into certain perks because of how good the general survivor base has become at both looping and destroying gens.

I see recommendations and ideas daily, where i think people have hit the nail on its head, I was able to read legitimate counterpoints for opinions I held and thought were rule. And as much as it can get on the nerves of devs, and players alike, I believe the amount of moaning and groaning just shows how many people care about this games success.

Although were dealing with a lot of current bugs and exploits and balancing issues that haven't been addressed yet, there is a lot of potential in this totally incoherent mess of a game. But I don't need to tell all of you that.

I need to tell all of you hOW BROKEN AND UNPLAYABLE....

As I always say - you have to care deeply about something to be passionate about it, and a lot of the forum rage grows out of this passion. It's when the forums become a ghost town that you need to worry.

However, the Ringu expansion felt like it needed another few weeks of development and testing. This has been the worst patch in a long while. I understand why people are irritated.

  • @LiquidSoap said:

I am literally gonna quit this game cuz of tunneling meta, what's the point of even trying to play this game, if you get hooked first you're the first to die? and bt ds and uk are useless against a killer who commits to you for literally no reason. Like how desperate are killers for a win? rank just reset and Iam getting facecamped in ash 4 by 2-3-4k hrs killers ######### is that #########? Am I not allowed to play this game cuz I picked survivor over killer? I lost like ######### 20 games in a row and for some reason I get even worst killers every game...

    A few things from a killer's perspective.

    • I try not to tunnel people too much, but if you run directly into me I'm not going to pass you up. Ditto if someone I'm chasing runs to you and unhooks you in my face.
    • It's not my responsibility to distribute damage evenly. It's up to your team to protect you and you to evade better.
    • Tunneling straight off hook is basically facecamping, and BHVR are working on a mechanical change to the game to eliminate this. It was in the internal testing phase last we heard.
    • Killers are under at least some pressure to win, in that nobody likes being gloated at and survivors tend to be incredibly mean if they manage to 4-out. I'd rather be complained at than be gloated at.
    • If you're facing 2000 hour monsters as a brand new player, either the SBMM system pooped itself after a long queue or a lobby dodge, your MMR is so volatile it has no idea where to put you, you are better than you think or you're running into smurfs.

That all said - as a killer, getting someone out of the game early is just...sort of how this game is played at higher MMRs. If you try to be a 12 hooker, you end up being as bitter as a streamer I won't name. If the game gets to 1 gen left and everyone is still alive, I'm probably going to lose and get teabagged all the way to the exit gates, unless I'm sitting on the fattest NOED+NWO in the world.

By all means though - try the killer role a bit yourself. You'll see what I mean.

The new chapter dropped and the first week was filled with posts about how little impact it had on getting new players or bringing old players back.

Then suddenly we get a "rAnDoM" event which encourages everyone to log in daily for 1-2 matches worth of bloodpoints, and wow, we're probably going to see the player numbers go up regardless of whether people do more than open the game, claim the bonus, then close it again.

I wish I wasn't cynical enough to look at it that way, but am I the only one tired of getting attention and rewards from the game only when they feel threatened? Used to be events were announced well in advance because they were about enjoying the game, now it's more like "oops, chapter flopped, fudge the numbers" or "a high profile game is releasing? time for another 1.5x weekend!"

Shrug. I think it's a bit of column A (planned event), column B (an attempt to buffer the numbers in the wake of a mediocre DLC launch) and column C (an attempt to help alleviate the grind a little).

Title. I mostly play Pig so ideas for M1 oriented killers would be appreciated. Usually I just throw Haunted Grounds into my usual build and call it a day because CoH users almost always bless over it / 9/10 times my haunted gets popped but I'm looking for some ideas other than that.

If you're wondering what my usual build looks like it's: Pop, Corrupt and STBFL on Pig. I switch BBQ out for Haunted.

Other killers I play as: Plague (Don't really do Exposed builds on her), Hag, Wraith and Doctor.

    Pig...yeah. She's a tough one.

NOED is quite solid on her, provided you aren't too far behind at the endgame.

NOED+Haunted+Undying+Devour Hope would be my build of choice if I wanted to make her an instadowner, but if you can't apply pressure early it's not going to go well.

Currently my Pig build is Pain Resonance + Plaything + STBFL + either BBQ for BP or Pentimento. The idea is to keep them as busy as possible with side objectives, as a trap and a Plaything totem really tends to stress people out.

  • @fulltonon said:

I'm pretty sure she is no stronger than clown, she is just M1 killer with all the counterable and unreliable side-effect which doesn't affect matches at all, she would stomp newbies and could have decent kill rate, but that's only because there is lot of newbies who don't know what she does at all.

Everything she does to survivor is basically counterable, nothing is actually threatening, everything is telegraphed, can disable powers entirely, it's pretty obvious she can't do well against anyone decent.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2850249#Comment_2850249

100 seconds, not 40 seconds, at least in PTB.

This is about my impression of her. She reminds me of Pig (in that she's mostly a pure M1 killer that can't really handle high MMR groups with any reliability), pre-rework Wraith in that savvy survivors are ready to run the second she appears and you struggle to get even the first hit and Demogorgon (minus his gap closer).

Initially I had her at 'C' tier, just behind Wraith. After playing her more and people starting to figure her out, I'd drop her to high 'D' tier, just ahead of Pig.

  • Hmm. As a new/intermediate survivor and a high/intermediate killer (I'm guessing):

    • Doctor is fine. Preempt his shocks or perform actions during the animation and he'll struggle in chase. Split up on gens. His effects can be a bit much though (so...much...screaming). Down 2 tiers.
    • Deathslinger - Why? Juke his shots and he's craptacularly bad. Down 3 tiers.
    • Trickster - yes. I hate facing him, even though I seldom lose to them unless they are camping.
    • Plague? Interesting. I both enjoy facing her and playing her. What's your issue with Plague? Down to bottom.
    • Cenobite - Barely see any. Enjoyed the games I've had against him. Down two tiers.
    • Clown - Eh. Barely see them, don't think I've lost to any that weren't using Finger. Down a tier.
    • Spirit - Love playing against her even though she tends to own me. Down 2 tiers.
    • Artist - Love playing her and playing against her. I enjoy killers that aren't just static chasers, and she has an awesome chase theme. To the bottom.
    • Bubba - Yes, but only because he tends to be campy. Up to the top with you.
    • Twins - Literally never faced one.
    • Ghosty - Tends to come in two varieties. The memelords who don't really want to play (boring) and the campers. Up a tier.
    • Trapper - Barely see them. Tends to be a pretty easy match unless it's Midwich. Loves to basement camp. Down two tiers.
    • PH - The only PH's I've gone up against were crazy good. I enjoy facing him a great deal - tons of fun mindgames and counterplay. Down a tier.
    • Legion - Up to top. Cannot stand playing against them, even though they are weak. Just...annoying.
    • Wraith - I mostly feel sorry for Wraiths. Don't mind facing them, but aside from a single player all have been push-overs.
    • Hag - My favorite killer by a mile. Don't mind facing her, but almost never see her. Down a tier.
    • Freddy - Ugh. Hate playing him, hate facing him. Freddies tend to be nasty. Pallet Freddy is fun though. Up two tiers.
    • Oni - Another killer I don't enjoy playing or facing. Some aren't bad, but most end up having one person slugged for the entire game - generally me. Up a tier.
    • Huntress - Up two tiers. I enjoy playing against her, just so, so tired of seeing her game after game - and Huntresses always tend to be super sweaty.
    • Demogorgon - Have faced literally one of these and had a blast. To the bottom.
    • Pig - Weak killer that relies on really irritating tactics to win (driving people off boxes). Can be fun to play, but generally not very nice to face. Up two tiers.
    • Myers - I love facing Spoopy Myers, but generally the ones I run into either hard-camp on the first down or run either perma instadown or instamori builds. Up a tier.
    • Billy - Either complete pushovers or gods of curving, screaming doom that kills the entire team at 5 gens. Don't see many of them though.
    • Nurse - See Huntress.
    • Blight - See Huntress.
    • Nemesis - Yeah, I enjoy facing him too.
    • Onryo - Like Wraith, I feel bad for her sometimes. She's really, really easy to see coming and loop/hold W. I wish Condemn did more. Just...boring to face. Up two tiers.
  • @CertifiedBabyKiller said:

literally half of my survivor games are against nemesis. this killer is so boring to play against, as long as the nemesis is decent then you just can’t loop him on most tiles. i mean i’m not complaining but the fact that so many killers love using this boring ass killer just never makes me want to play survivor.

Interesting. I used to see him a lot, but now I almost never see him (it's generally Blight, Huntress, Nurse, Bubba, Ghostface (no idea why) and occasionally a Myers, Wraith or Artist).

I play a good amount of Nemmy. He's fun and aside from janky zombie AI, quite a decent killer.

what counterplay? You mean dodge a whip, gain 3 meters and eat an m1 anyway? His ability to break pallets is just too much and his recovery time after missing a whip is practically non-existent. I'd rather do away with the contamination mechanic and just have him injure on first whip with the length of tier 3 but not be able to break pallets. Other killers that can break pallets quickly like billy, leatherface and demo cannot recover nearly as quickly as nemesis when he does so. Either extend his recovery time for breaking pallets or remove the mechanic altogether. I've you play solo q, Nemi will get t3 in 2 minutes flat and there is literally no counterplay in a chase at that point. At least with like Demi, he has a long recovery time after using shred that you can extend a mid to long loop for another loop if you dodge, you can't do this with nemesis unless it's at an unsafe pallet. Admittedly, Nemi is super weak early game, but once he gets perma tier 3, he's unequivocally unstoppable. Sure you can dodge a few whips but best case scenario you extend a chase by a few seconds. Nemesis and Artist are the only killers I have a problem with because you don't need to be a good player while using them to be insanely oppressive. I'd rather go against Blight/Nurse/Spirit 50 games in a row than ever see a busted ass nemesis/artist. I mean, compare Nemi to Myers who has limited t3 and can't break pallets to Nemi who has infinite t3, can break pallets, zombies and near non-existent slowdown when missing a whip attack while having normal base speed. Same problem with artist, base speed is just too fast. People say "w away" but that only adds 2-5 seconds to the chase if the killer is competent and knows how to zone.

Go watch Otz's Nemesis streak video if you want to see how to outplay Nemmy. I tend to do pretty well against him.

    • Basically, it's all about range. Rather than trying to outrun him, juke his tentacle and run past him.
    • Lateral motion throws him off.
    • Make sure you know where he is and how close he is before vaulting or dropping a pallet (against good survivors, these are the only time I'm landing a tentacle).
    • Beware zombies! They are useless sometimes, but other times a savvy Nemmy will use them to triangulate in on you. Don't be scared to use a pallet on them (Nemmy eats through pallets as is).
    • Abuse his weak early game. If he gets P3 at 5 gens, you're going to struggle.

what in the world is secondary chase tool? He has pseudo exposed mechanic because he only needs a single hit to get a down but has no ability to confirm the final hit. I think you do not understand what I mean by all m1 killers fall under same blanket of effectiveness vs strong survivor players.

    https://youtu.be/co9YMQl18lo?t=215

Here's coconut video that perfectly illustrates my point for how most killers that ineffective abilities play out. game 1 is shorten between 3:30-4:51. game 2 is 5:07-13:33.

In coconuts words at 9:45-10:05 "we can barely get a single m1 in. On one person. it is all we need, a single m1 hit, How do you do it? How do you even hit them? How do you get a single M1 hit?" after chasing nea for minutes on end.

The answer is. You don't. Strong looping survivor make very little mistakes in the loops themselves such as that m1 killers(115%) do not really get m1 hits. You need survivor to make looping mistakes for you to be successful as killer. This is my point. That game on Ironwork of misery was 2 hook legion game. You see, only hits that legion ever got was with his ability and intentional body blocking. That is in a nutshell why people say Legion is weak.

There is strategy behind countering pig dash. I cannot be bothered to go into detail with it. What I am trying say conclusively is that anti-loop abilities are only way for killer to express any skill towards the game because those only times where killer get legit hits in a chase. The only time you get hit as survivor when your good is killer powers. Sadako is same as all other C-D lower tier killers. You cannot get better as killer against safe pallets if you have no method to outplay safe looping.

Secondary chase tool = not an anti-loop or a gap-closer, which would be a primary chase tool. I'd classify things like instadowns and strong engages as secondary.

Legion is a...terrible killer, but can still do some good stuff.

Yes, Wraith, Legion, Onryo and Pig (among others) simply do not fit the game as it's played in 2022 because savvy survivors know how to loop them, meaning that your only real choice is to catch someone injured in the open, down them and try to convert that into a snowball, generally by camping or slugging.

I still manage to pull stuff off with Pig Dash, but it's very map dependant.

They're nowhere near the best but you have to admit her base kit is better because it basically is his power except with passive phasing and no bell and she can teleport so that automatically puts her right above him especially with a potential free kill if you have bots who hold the tape too long

    I don't.

Her basekit = janky, unreliable stealth and passive phasing, teleports and a mostly negligible secondary objective. One of these is almost pointless, one is okay but not spectacular, one is completely pointless on most maps.

About the only area where she beats out Wraith is a situation where she has to travel from one side of a massive map to another very quickly. And Wraith isn't far off, as while she can teleport once, he can sprint over multiple times as needed.

The core area where Wraith takes the unambiguous lead is that he can at least engage well, and score a lot of easy hits - especially with stuff like gen tracking addons and the silent bell. Hell, with these I can get grabs sometimes.

Sadako can't do this. Everything she does is telegraphed to hell and back, meaning that you are essentially a plain-Jane M1 killer for most of the game. Wraith gets one easy hit then struggles to get a second. She doesn't get that first easy hit.

I’ve been getting fast killer queues since MMR was implemented.

I did, for a while - at least during primetime. Now it's maybe a 60-120 second queue at primetime, and around 3 minutes in the morning.

My survivor queues actually seem shorter right now than they were a month ago.

  • No, but I also don't want to break the game - and a lot of the high MMR meta revolves around DH and CoH. Both of these perks need a rework though, absolutely.

For me, DbD this year is:

    • Why am I waiting in a queue for so long as both killer and survivor?
    • With the length of my queues, why are so many of my matches still bizarre?
    • Onryo needs to go back into the oven for a month or two, she isn't quite done.
    • Yay, more bugs and exploits!
    • Ooh, login events!
  • @BenZ0 said:

Would anyone want that? I just recently realized that Saw doesnt has any Legendary skins (I mean pretty obvious since they got introduced with the Silent hill chapter). However I would love to see him in dbd!

One question though, what would he be? Killer or Survivor? Idk honestly since he could fit in both roles.

It's a cute idea, but as it uses the likeness of a real person I'm not sure if they could swing it.

Not to derail, but I don't think Otz ever claimed to go for 12 hooks all the time. That I think is more Trutalent's position, and they famously debated about it.

Tru likes to sanctimoniously preach about the 12 hook thing, but generally does poorly in challenges. I do not subscribe to the notion that killers should always strive for a nice even distribution of hooks, but I also will go a little out of my way not to drum people out of the game straight out of the gate.

And I have zero desire to play at top MMR, but those who do seem to play with a combination of camping and tunneling, I am more talking about dedicated camping being ineffective. Like I am going to find one surv, hook them and facecamp them to death and then do the same to the next sort of camping.

And I don't face as many sweaty bully squads because I will throw a few matches to lower my MMR when I start running into them with any sort of frequency. I don't play DBD to sweat (there are games I play with intensity, this is not one of them), I play for fun.

And tourney DBD is just horrible, imo. The least compelling version, imo.

Also, I take your word that you do well, but out of genuine curiosity, how does it go when you hook/camp someone and the rest of the team just leaves them to die and slams gens? How often does this happen? Does this even happen often, or are people too driven by altruism?

    My policy is:

    • Before 4 gens are done, everyone gets 2 hooked before I kill anyone, unless there is literally nobody else to chase and gens are exploding left and right.
    • After 4 gens are done, I'll tunnel someone out.
    • I'll camp during EOGC if there are at least 3 survivors left alive.

Generally I try not to eliminate anyone too early (I know how annoying it is as a survivor to waste your time on a match where you depip and get sod all BP because I got camped on the first down), but I'll make an exception for teabaggers and people who flick their flashlights.

This was the question that finally made me create an account.

But in all seriousness I enjoy playing as the Clown, Trickster, Trapper, Ghostface, Legion, Doctor and Wraith. I have played every killer in the game and these guys are my favorite to play. Don't get me wrong, I know it is possible to 4k as them but it isn't as easy if you were to play as a good Nurse, Blight or Spirit. I have played those 3 killers and I don't enjoy their mechanics. When I hear a glass bottle shattering and or see some bear traps in my survior games I am excited because it's not a Huntress, Nurse or Spirit. Variety I love when it comes to perk builds, add-ons, items, killers and survivors.

If you leave a comment please be nice and let me know if you play a "bad" killer and why you play them.

I really enjoy Myers and Wraith, but I'll admit that this is contingent on me getting the right map/survivors. A sweatsquad on Badham...I may as well just AFK.

I...want to enjoy Pig and Onryo, but it's just so hard.

I'm currently learning Ghostface. He isn't bad, he's just really janky.

I know a lot of survivor will ask to nerf this perk because on nurse this perk are too strong so the better choice i think is nerf nurse and not the new perk, i love so much Sadako i love what you do with this killer thank you

I...doubt it'll get smacked. BBQ is more reliable, Discordance is more consistent for info.

I was convinced that Merciless Storm was a terrible perk and that the scourge hook would be beast mode but I've seen more value so far from merciless storm...crazy.

That being said, I dont think itll be nerfed. If Nurse hasn't got Starstruck and lethal pursuer nerfed yet then I dont see any hope of Nurse getting this nerfed

I've yet to get any real value out of it, but I still need to test it with DMS and/or Gearhead.

What are legion's chase tools? none. Pig's ambush dash is weak and irrelevant. My point is that gutter killers are just as effective as Sadako is. By that I mean that their powers have little to no impact on outcome of the match. The less than 5 hook result is the same for all of the killers during prime time. There is lack of skill-expression for the killer from having ineffective ability.

Its why I find RenAmaiya comment on Sadako priceless comedy.

Legion has what I'd call a secondary chase tool, in that he is able to keep a lot of people injured, potentially shortening chase. Still a terrible killer.

Pig's dash isn't great, but it's hardly irrelevant. You just (unfortunately) need to use addons to make it worthwhile. I play a bit of Pig here and there, and I often use it to force 50/50s in loops.

And scoring is far more bonkers than that. Just try Iri pipping on Myers, compared to say Wraith.

The really sad part is that survivors aren't even playing against her that well because she's so weak that you don't have to learn to counter her. But for the survivors that do know how to counter her, it's a full on counter. I had a SWF that I versed that disabled all teleports on one side of the map, completed all those gens and then completed all the gens on the other half and did the same thing. I could not teleport at all that whole game unless I wanted to teleport away from them. And because returning a television turns the television off they weren't even getting condemned for doing it. I went and tried the same thing as survivor after that game, and I found that I could turn off all the generators near any generator that had any progress and stay at between 0 and 3 condemned the whole game. It's so powerful that if all 4 survivors were to turn off tvs they could turn off all the tvs in the map all the time. (That's obviously not optimal because you wouldn't be getting generators done) but my point is that you don't need to, you only need one person. And because you're taking video tapes away from generators that are being worked on you're also preventing other survivors from getting condemned.

The only time this killer is any good at all is when survivors ignore the TVs, then she's mid C tier. But if survivors know how to counterplay her, she has her stealth and only her stealth. She is F tier, she is worse than freddy was pre-buff by a significant amount.

I played a fair bit of her (going to put her aside to see what BHVR do next, going back to learning Ghostface). I've also watched a lot of people playing her on stream.

What seems to fool survivors is that her size makes them underestimate the distance of her lunge.

Condemn is just going to be a problem mechanic (an insta mori at 0 hooks is impossible to balance), it should be Exposed with a mori at 2 hooks, and tweak the values up substantially.

What really lets me down is her terrible, janky and unreliable 'stealth'. That was what excited me about her (I'm a big fan of stealth killers, to the extent that I've made stealth builds for even the most unga bunga killers).

So I havent played blight in about a week and you all know you can get rusty really fast on him. My first game was obviously on the game and usually with so many corners and tight walkways youd love it but it is also way to easy to be juked on that map. I also wasnt using umbra salts so that may have been the main issue. So i amjust asking for some tips in how you guys handle that map. Thanks in advance

Honestly? Unga bunga full aggression from the get go and start chomping through pallets.

  • @cordonrouge said:

seriously. why should i get stressed being looped for hours and applying non existant pressure because of healing when i can just sit on a hook and then grab another survivor to slug. it's literally so easy and it's a guaranteed 2k at the very least, if not more.

Because...it's not fun? And you're just inflating your MMR while not actually getting better, leading to you hitting a hard wall later?

As a killer main, I'll camp strategically at times - but the only time I'll facecamp is when someone is really BM.

It's a tool in my belt, but one that I don't enjoy relying on - partially because it smells like cheese.

Wraith COULD use his speed boost out of cloak to 50/50 people at WEAK pallets. Not anymore. His slowdown more than makes up for the fact that he's fast in cloak and gets a speed boost when he comes out of it. He's a very safe, survivor-oriented killer now.

Shrug. I play a fair amount of Wraith these days, and I watch a few other streamers that play Wraith. Yes, you use it at weak pallets, but you can also use it at switchbacks, so long as you have some sort of LOS breaker. Basically you rotate until you drop out of sight, immediately decloak and then come around. At worst it's a 50/50 or they leave the loop (correct response). He can also do a lot of shenanigans with bodyblocking, or with his silent bell addon.

Now...what exactly can Sadako do at the same pallet?

He needs a buff, but I'd still reckon him better than Sadako.

Yeah, but there's a case to be made that Sadako has fewer tools than all of the gutter tier killers. Even Legion gets a free health state+game delay and tracking. And Pig at least gets some RNG delay if she manages to down someone. Sadako has mobility for the sake of mobility, and that's it.

She's not quite Legion bad. I'd put her about on par with Pig, maybe slightly above Clown. She can do well on specific maps (like Pig) or with specific addons (also like Pig), but her toolkit is bad and RNG, and doesn't really fit with the way this game is played in 2022.

    @MilManson said:

I've played over 100 games on Sadako and she's rubbish, and my MMR is high due to the huntress spam I do (other killers share a percentage of your best killer) every game is a sweat every survivor has meta perk and efficiency.

She's got no redeeming feature which killers that wraith can do better for example.

I've played about 60, and I'll give her...two points of partial credit.

    • Some of her addons aren't bad at all, and when using them parts of her kit feel about right. Ring Drawing+Net makes Condemn feel almost useful, and Watch+Hair makes her stealth feel a lot more impactful. These three addons could safely be baked in, and she'd be low 'B' tier.
    • She can be okay on Midwich and The Game, if you get lucky and are able to frequently apply Condemn to multiple survivors incidental to teleports.

I do stream. Also there is no one "right" way to play. But there is many wrong ways to play. If you play her as a wraith. You lose. If you play her just as freddy. You also will lose. Mix them both. Use your "cloak" to close distance. Teleport where you think survivors are. There is no reason to "save" tvs. Use them bishes. Use your hieght against survs. Smaller walls = leave the loop if you cant mind game it. Personally gen defense, and using my teleport more helped me win way more matches. But, gen focused teams. Or teams with great coordination will win every time.

Also its a bit hard to actually tell people to play because it what you do in the match is based on how survs play. For example. I love myc call of brine tinkerer and floods of rage. Others had success with nurses sloppy and etc. DMT is really good for her as well. My point is. Sadako is a jack of trades type. She doesnt do one thing amazingly but she does a few things well.

Now with all of that being said, im no otz or scott. So my views arent about "high level sweaty play this game forever" plays. But more of "huh i enjoy this game and i can win a bunch too." Because well. So i lose a lot more than i win. But with sadako so far ive barely lost any. I mean yea super coordinated squads will smoke my ass but i think i do alright.

No worries, I'll check your Sadako play out - because not only is your experience quite different to mine, but evidently quite different to the other streamers I watch. What's your TTV handle?

Im telling ya. She isnt weak at all. If people stop focusing on the condem and focus on more gen defense, and hit and run. She is strong af.

Personally i feel like everyone who plays her just doesnt know how to play her. Ive been getting upwards of 2k every match with her. Maybe survivors dont know how to counter her. Maybe i just am really good with her playstyle. But she isnt weak at all. Easily a tier.

I also feel everyone who says c tier just listens to otz over and over again like its some sort of dbd gospel. I really wish he would stop judging killers so soon before he can fully learn it.

Seriously idk how all of you struggle with her so much.

Do you stream or have any VODs? I'd be curious to see the 'right' way to play Sadako that is so different to how everyone else seems to be playing her.

Given that this is probably the most unified I've seen the player base (in terms of opinions on overall game state / fun), I'm almost certain that CoH or DH will be slammed soon to placate people.

I'd imagine this will be followed shortly (or simultaneously) with a face camping and/or NOED nerf.

Just conjecture, but one has to assume some type of offering will be made to placate the mob.

That would be nice, but I don't think so.

CoH just got nerfed. Boons as a whole need a second look, but this will likely be a long-term change.

DH will be changed, but it would represent a massive shift to the meta and would have to be done very carefully. My guess is that this will be in the midpatch.

I predict in the short term that we'll see:

    • More events.
    • Sadako getting some buffs (wishful thinking maybe).
    • Some behind-the-scenes adjustments to MMR.

I would feel sorry for your students if this is how you teach.

Now, you've dismissed the idea of 'common sense', which makes me suspect some sort of Post-Modernist leaning, likely rendering any further discourse pointless.

    • Correct, I would always dismiss common sense as a reason to believe someone. It is the most overused buzzword I ever seen argued. I care for it as much as I care for your snobbery towards post-modernists. All a waste of time to me.

As you claim to have a working knowledge of stats.

I don't believe I have claimed this, if so it was in error, I have worked with statistics in college and uni in my home country. However you as a teacher and as an expert married to another expert, surely you should be able to convince me or maybe your wife can.

<> Let's assume, for the sake of the argument,

How about we don't assume that, how about you demonstrate your assumption is valid by showing me the numbers of the other platforms? Oh wait you cant do that, so why does it matter? Its pretty clear to me, if you cant provide any insurance for the claims or verify it, its gonna be a waste of time.

Not only a waste of time for us, but also a waste of time in general since BHVR is gonna be working independent of us.

    Did that make sense?

    Not really.

You are essentially strawmanning here, because you are treating feedback on a videogame forum as if people were in a formal debate.

Questioning people for their rationale is not a strawman argument. Its perfectly okay to ask questions to videogame feedback.

Your two statisticians-of-debatable-existence served no purpose but to act as an AFA.

I'm sorry if you think I was bringing them up as an argument from authority, but I never claimed you should believe me, because of a discussion I have had with others. Again, please read again, I asked you why I should take your word for it when I already consulted some independently, I mean you are the guy whos appealing to common sense, yet I talked to others and then disagree with you, so the common sense isn't so common it seems.

    (rolls eyes).

    • I am absolutely a snob towards post-modernists. Frankly, everyone should be.
    • 'Common sense' isn't a buzzword. It's the starting point for...basically all human inquiry.
    • Shrug. I'm not an expert by any means, just someone who works with stats a lot, and is married to someone who's field is mostly expressed via statistics. But again - note how you aren't actually providing a position of your own, all you're doing is negation and ad-homs at this point.
    • No, I don't need to. Because prima facie - you can easily observe this yourself by playing the game or watching streamers playing the game and taking note of the platforms in question as displayed in the lobby. No proofs are required for something easily observable, this is just sealioning on your behalf.
    • You aren't questioning rationale. Again, you are sealioning.
    • If you didn't want to use them as scaffolding for your argument, then why bring them up at all?

But again, this is a pointless discussion that I've mostly been treating as a mental exercise. If you actually want to have a discussion - establish a position of your own and we can compare the two. Otherwise I'm going to go and do something more productive.

Ikr! And BHVR has really so weird decisions. Nurse and Blight already strongest killers of DbD and they are buffing their some add-ons. Dead Hard is strongest survivor perk and they are adding hit validation for it. Just why?

Trapper, Pig, Myers, Legion, Ghosty etc. needs buffs. Why Nurse and Blight taking buffs instead any of them. Most of survivors perks are garbage, why not making them viable instead going to make DH is more annoying. I just don't understand BHVR sometimes.

Myers is tricky. Some of his addons need a total rework (they are just too damn strong and make it impossible to balance him) but his basekit needs help.

I'd hesitate to say that most survivor perks are garbage - a lot are actually really good. The issue is that a handful are just so powerful that everything else seems bad by comparison.

    You literally asked me, this:

You haven't even tried to demonstrate that it isn't.

If you believe steam charts is a representative sample size, you ought to be able to prove it. Its not my job. Its pretty clear to me you are trying your hardest to shift the burden of proof onto me. And I'm not even claiming anything, I merely ask how do you guys know these things.

'How do you know MMR is killing the game?'

'How do you know the numbers are not down for any other reason?'

'Why is Steamcharts a representative sample? and can you prove that?'

You even try to shift the burden of proof again by appealing to common sense, which is utterly subjective. I dont even know why you think, I would be convinced by such a thing. Next you try with occam's razor fallacy, an appeal to simplicity, which you try to pass off as a general rule of the world or something. Yet the world is not governed by such a concept, making the idea quite useless and unconvincing for me. I never said you should believe me, because I consulted two statisticians, I asked you why I should believe you over them? But that is besides the point of your arguments making so little sense in text, that I would reject it based on how many fallacies you provide me.

The severe lack of explanatory power, the blatant use of buzzwords and fallacies to make an argument is gonna keep me skeptical for a long time mate.

Sigh, this feels like I'm back tutoring Phil101 again.

    • That's not a PAN fallacy at all - because I'm asserting a condition based on common sense. This is the commonly accepted approach on topics with a large number of known unknowns.
    • When you assert something based on common sense, which is essentially what Ockham's Razor is, this shifts the burden of proof to the other side to provide a more reasonable explanation. You've provided no such attempt (all you've done is negation, which would probably be a failing grade in my Phil101 tuts, unless those don't exist anymore in the soft sciences).
    • Now, you've dismissed the idea of 'common sense', which makes me suspect some sort of Post-Modernist leaning, likely rendering any further discourse pointless. But, okay - I'll try.
    • 'Why is Steamcharts a representative sample?'. Sure, let me demonstrate this. As you claim to have a working knowledge of stats, I'm not going to explain every term here.
    • <> Let's assume, for the sake of the argument, that Steam makes up 20% of the DbD playerbase. It's likely substantially more (my guess would be 35% at least, based on both my lobbies and the lobbies of streamers I watch, even assuming PC players tend to cluster more towards higher MMRs) but let's be generous to your side and say 20%, unless you are going to assert something silly like 'Steam actually makes up less than 10%' or something.
    • <> That means that we're probably looking at around 170-200k-ish median players.
    • <> We apply Cochran's formula to get the sample size we want, and let's say a 3% margin of error (5% is usually accepted for statistical significance but again, were being generous here) - we have a sample more than the required number. I'm not going to do mental arithmetic now, but it's probably around 10x the required number.
    • <> Even if Steamcharts were only 10% of the DbD playerbase, we'd have a sample size that even the most picky PHD panel wouldn't have an issue with.
    • Did that make sense?
    • Ah, epistemology. Now we are in my wheelhouse. You are essentially strawmanning here, because you are treating feedback on a videogame forum as if people were in a formal debate.
    • You are splitting hairs. Your two statisticians-of-debatable-existence served no purpose but to act as an AFA.
  • @The_Krapper said:

Why would you put her above Wraith, out of interest?

I've been playing her, Wraith and Demo a lot to compare them, and Wraith just feels so much more consistent in securing downs in a timely fashion. That dash when coming out of stealth...wow do I miss it on Sadako.

  • I'm not complaining, but this feels like a bit of a backfill attempt after the Ringu chapter didn't really see that much of a numbers spike, likely due to the mediocre design of Sadako and the meh survivor perks on offer.

Why do I have to prove a negative? thats not how anything works. If you are saying something, then you ought to demonstrate it. I don't have to prove you are wrong, if you said 'There are Aliens' I dont have to prove there are not Aliens.

Common sense is also a fallacy, perspectives are always going to be different, you are basically appealing to your own opinion as proof, which I don't see why I would buy.

I have talked to two statisticians about the data theory, none of them have said such things about data theory. They said it isnt an insurance of it being correct. You say its statistically significant but you have no way of increasing sample size to prove it is significant. Its a buzzword you use to prop up your claim, because you cant prove that correct either. The statisticians I talked to about this said, There isnt a way you can make a conclusion based on such specific data collection, unless you can negate other factors having an impact, that is why they would make a better study an answer the question or if that is impossible don't.

Now tell me why I should believe you, over independent statisticians I have consulted about these questions, Twice in fact.

    Sigh, okay. Last try.

    • Proving a negative...wha? Explain to me where you are being asked to prove a negative.
    • 'Common sense is a fallacy'...no, it's not. In situations where limited information/data is available, common sense/Ockham rules supreme. The burden of proof is on you to either provide a counter-explanation, or to explain why the Ockham route is less likely in this situation. Unless you are some sort of Hegelist, I guess - but if that's true we've got bigger fundamental problems.
    • Hah! No, you didn't. Any statistician worth their salt would be able to explain this one to to. Both myself and my wife work extensively with studies and data modeling (me from a linguistics/sociological side, her from a computational neuroscience side) and this sample is far more representative than the majority of samples used in actual studies - even if Steamcharts only represents 15% of the playerbase. Also: from someone who seems to love fallacypicking, you'd think you'd be able to spot your own Argument From Authority fallacy. An anonymous AFA, at that XD.
    • Again, an anonymous AFA is worse than even a standard AFA, and this one's a doozy.

But let me throw the ball back to you. Why is Steamcharts not a representative sample? Be as specific as you can.

...I'm not sure if I understood this, but let's try.

You don't get to DC just because you don't like how the killer is playing. Either loop/evade better, get your team to distract him or suicide on hook.

Not really. I have not problem with Nurse against Dead Hard. I know it is base-kit for survivors. Dead Hard can save them just once and then i will catch them again. But Dead Hard hurts me when i play Sadako and Nemesis.

Nurse and Blight are...well, Nurse and Blight. Top 'S' tier. Dead Hard still hurts them, but they are so strong they can drown out this advantage with an immediate follow up.

Nemesis can at least bait it, similarly to Demo and a few other killers.

    It's just a silly perk.

I honestly quite like her, she's not strong but she has good chase and map pressure, and can be great with information perks.

    ...Does she?

Her map pressure is okay - if TVs spawn in the right places (too often they are spawned on a different floor to their corresponding gens, or facing a wall) and survivors don't pay attention to them.

She has no tools for chasing - her phasing is both unreliable and predictable and any maps with strong, connected loops destroys her. She doesn't even really have a good engage thanks to her dumb lullaby.

With certain addons, she feels...okay. Without them, she's about on par with Pig or Freddy.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

    CoH and Dead Hard.

I am outplaying survivor, Dead Hard saves them. And now they have strong spot and what i can do as m1 killer here? Nothing.

I am hitting all survivors for making pressure on them. Y'know she is hit and leave type killer. But then someone blessing CoH. After this good luck to pressure on them.

Seriously i hate this 2 perks so much. If half of killers are unplayable reason is this 2 perks. Dead Hard hit validation and CoH was biggest mistakes ever. I can not wait to see this 2 perks finally balanced.

Dead Hard is a pain on basically every killer. It essentially amounts to a third health state when used correctly.

CoH hurts any killer without either a very strong chase or an instadown.

Sadako's problem isn't really these two perks (although I admit they are both in need of some serious bashing with the nerfhammer), it's that neither aspect of her toolkit is very effective.

    • Her stealth is a joke. Mirror Myers has better stealth. There is no reason for her to have a lullaby, for starters.
    • Her teleportation is janky as hell, relies on spawn RNG and can be completely negated by survivors at will (although they generally just ignore it).

What really hurts her though is that she has zero ability to shorten chases or counter bog-standard looping. Even Pig has a better toolkit here.

So basically I end up 50% finding the hatch first and if I close it then the survivor will either be at one of the 2 exit gates so it's 50% 50% again and even if it's the right one sometimes they hide and do mind games and the gates are way too far from each other in most of the maps and another one if I camp the hatch so the survivor comes by they won't and it's boring to do the let's wait game it can drag for a long period of time so then if I close it it's the 50% 50% again , do you have any strategies to win such scenarios or the last survivor has more chance to escape whatever you do ?

Yup, it's generally a 50/50. I don't mind that - unless I'm doing a specific challenge or an Adept, I tend to let the last person get away anyway.

However, if you want to kill them, a few tricks:

    • Hatch has spawning rules on a lot of maps. On The Game, it's always downstairs. On RPD, it likes to spawn close to the library. On Asylum, it likes to spawn in either the main structure or close to it.
    • Before killing the second-last survivor, make sure you know where the last survivor is.
    • You can slug the second last survivor while you hunt the last one. This always feels a little dirty to me, but it's effective.

"partially shut down, bypass or mindgame loops - because that's sort of how the game is designed."

Yes, but older killers (ie Billy, Wraith, Nurse even, Huntress) had much more to their anti loop then zone for free. Stay at loop, be hit. Run from loop, be hit.

This formula was sick with Demo. It was okay with Slinger. It was kinda boring with Pyramid Head. Everyone else that released and still copied it after that was just an unoriginal snoozefest. Because that is what the gameplay will always boil down to in a chase- reach a loop, get zoned, hold W to another loop as the killer mindgame themselves until you're inevitably downed because it won't work after 2-3 tries, and while you can sneak in a tiny loop here and there as soon as they figure out what you're doing you have to leave and return to W key.

That's why I call them boring and uninspired, because the main parts of their kits share identical counterplay and basically nothing else that can be consistently performed, particularly in solo queue.

But, we're getting off topic here anyway.

    Eh.

Wraith pre-rework was a sad killer (Sadako reminds me of him at times). Now, while he doesn't have an anti-loop exactly, he can use his dash to overwhelm people at pallets or at least force a 50/50, plus he has a fantastic initiate that usually gets him a free hit. Sadako doesn't even have that.

Billy has an instadown. It's hard to land (I consider Billy to be the most difficult killer in the game, actually) but it completely bypasses the looping phase.

    Nurse ignores loops completely.

    Huntress is a projectile killer.

All of these killers have a tool to shorten chases and hook more effectively, which works. Because that's the purpose of the killer.

And yes - that's sort of how the game is designed. The goal of the survivors is to extend chases as long as possible to buy time for the other 3 to do stuff. The goal of the killer is to make chases as short as possible, in some cases also applying pressure via a secondary objective. How effectively they can do this is what determines the strength of a killer - and by this metric, Sadako is terrible.

I don't think it's OT. I think you've just perfectly illustrated both the reason Onryo feels so raw, and the core limitation of DbD design wise.

"All of these killers brought something no other killer did."

Artist has a mid-ranged attack and is an anti-loop no mobility killer, encouraging leaving the loop and holding w.

Pinhead has a mid-ranged attack and is an anti-loop limited mobility killer, encouraging leaving the loop and holding w.

Trickster has a mid-ranged attack and is an anti-loop no mobility killer, encouraging leaving the loop and holding w.

Nemesis has a short to mid ranged attack and is an anti-loop no mobility killer with an rng, uncontrollable secondary power, who encourages leaving the loop and holding w.

    Very fresh.

I think you're oversimplifying. I'll see if I can explain why.

Artist - Delayed projectile attack, can shut down loops and shove people off gens at extreme range. No other killer has anything like her projectiles. She was unique.

Pinhead - Directed projectile snare that can be spawned through walls, plus a secondary objective in the form of the box that has interesting counterplay and counter-counterplay. No killer has anything like this.

Trickster - Note that I didn't bring him up. He's not a well designed killer either.

Nemesis - Secondary power that doubles (triples?) as a detection tool, a passive slowdown/disruption and even a pathing blocker. It's a wild power that doesn't always work right, but it's certainly different.

But yes - basically every killer that isn't a trapper or an instadowner has a tool to at least partially shut down, bypass or mindgame loops - because that's sort of how the game is designed.

Having a killer without these tools doesn't make them interesting. It's like leaving the patty off a burger. You aren't making a new sort of hamburger - you're just making a terrible sandwich.

About on par with my Pig kill rate.

Initially I was doing okay, an equal balance of 1-3ks, with the odd 4o or 4k here and there. But a lot of those came from people either underestimating my lunge range due to my size, or not realizing how her teleports/condemn worked. Now people have started to figure out how vulnerable she is to bog standard looping, and just run to the closest safe tile and park there. There's nothing quite like having people run you through the log+main structure loop on Swamp with absolutely zero counterplay.

Her height is honestly more of a curse than a blessing - some loops have walls that survivors can see over, but she struggles to. Grass becomes corn. Corn becomes 'what the hell I can't see anything'.
