They need to get rid of swf entirely... The game isnt intended to be like that
Unfortunately it is. They mention it in the very first dev stream...
It's just the core game that needs to be fixed for the swf v 1 to be balanced.
-
The important thing that you're forgetting about is that the devs have said that their goal when considering "balance" isn't to actually buff or nerf the killer but to make them fun to play and play against.
I'd like to see two official polls posing these questions to players.
Is the Nurse more fun to play as?
Is the Nurse less fun to play as?
=====
Is the Nurse more fun to play against?
Is the Nurse less fun to play against?
It's been touted here and there that getting rid of Omega blink was good because it was too strong and players would also play without addons since they hurt more than helped.
Omega is gone now, but are the addons more helpful than they used to be?
With the tweak to her power, was it necessary? Or would the addon changes have been enough without it?
There are some survivor mains talking about how unfun she is to go against now and even more players saying how unfun she is to play.

It's not her dad.
It's too obvious and the devs are anything but obvious when it comes to new killer teases.
Look past the obvious and you'll see what I see...
-
Because there's no way to accurately match up players of equal skill for that outcome since the ranking system doesn't measure skill.
There are also way too many factors that impact the match to balance in this way. Gen rush and 3v1 situations make this kind of balance impossible.

I'm a rank 1 survivor and killer — through I haven't been playing a lot recently so I'm not this season.
I also play Spirit sometimes when I wanna relax! ??
I'm not calling anyone out in particular. I'm just saying that in regards to scott's challenge, the person who takes it up should have a similar skill level in survivor compared to scott's skill level in spirit for the test to be relevant.
Also, I've always said that rank doesn't accurately measure player skill so rank is a nonfactor to me when talking about skill.
I look forward to the day when the ranking system can measure player skill.

It is hard to take his offer when one of you would have to buy the game on another platform.
In addition, there's no way to determine whether it was player skill or just the spirit that determined the outcome of a match.
Finding a survivor that has equal skill in survivor as SJ has in killer is a difficult task by itself.

They're busy spending money keeping Deathgarden alive (and possibly other studio projects) instead of hiring more people to work on DbD.
They made a point to mention why they didn't hire more people and the reason surprised me.
If I understood it right, they have their dev group who understand the game as it is and bringing in a lot of people to help with it would also bring in people who don't "get" the dev group.
This might also translate to "we don't want more people who might change the way things are run"
I dunno, it's just one statement, but it'd be nice to see them get an influx of people to work on all the little things that drive players nuts while still keeping up with their crazy content schedule.

Had it every other day for 2 years in Okinawa while I was stationed there and never got tired of it.
I even tried to recreate it when I came back to the states and found a reasonable substitute that my friends and family love to have me make.

I agree.
There's just something about him that makes him less fun to play.
His leap is cool, but clunky to use since you can't launch until it's fully charged and it's difficult to gauge that in the heat of a chase.
The sounds and footsteps are wildly annoying as well.
His portals would be better if you could recycle the oldest one. The placement limitation isn't balanced with the ease at which they can be sealed.
In the end he really is just a more obnoxious and less effective Hillbilly.

The survivor gets no feedback from the Spirit, so how does a survivor counter play something they have no feedback on?
Nurse, when she is preparing for a blink, the survivor sees her raise her arm. This tells the survivor she's about to blink, how long she is charging her blink, and when the nurse blinks, they see her travel to her blink location. All of this allows the survivor to plan ahead and try to out smart the Nurse.
Spirit, she doesn't have feedback besides standing still, but even then, she could be faking it.
I made a video too. It's an interesting situation to a person such as myself who predicts rather than reacts.

Seriously though he's fine most of the time. Forever Freddy is annoying but that's it.
Just like Omega blink Nurse?
-
Head on had a nice counter, but thanks to Dedi-servers the lag has made every attempt fail since their implementation.
It's unfortunate. I enjoyed the counterplay in injuring or downing a survivor who thought they had me with that tactic.
-
Freddy 100%
His gen slowdown potential is probably what they'd say is too high.
The devs would say they're going to tweak his addons and then "slightly" adjust his power which would stick him right back where he was when he was introduced.

I've been using an endgame build with Wraith.
Blood Warden - NoED - Knockout - Deerstalker
Wait for the gens to get done and then down one survivor.
Open a gate.
Everyone wants points so they hang out and try to rescue and such.
I keep slugging and they keep rescuing or trying to take out the totem.
Then when the time is right I hook one and wait for the timer to end.
500 player xp in about 5-7 minutes and on to the next match.
Deranking like crazy and not as much BP but the rift fragments are adding up.

Going against SWF can be fun.
Gen rush is only a thing if you let it happen, try to 3 gen strat if this is a problem.
any smart killer main knows to not follow a survivor to an infinite, but to rather pressure gens.
The hatch can be closed, it is your choice to slug or not, it is not forced.
Decisive Strike is easily countered by leaving them or not tunneling them and is a fair perk, anyone who complains about this still baffles me.
Looping and winning mindgames at loops is fun.
See the problem with yours?
You've highlighted the problem with your own argument without realizing it lol good job!
Fun is subjective so balance shouldn't be solely based around someone's arbitrary definition of fun.

This is not a post about balance. I survive against Spirit, too, but I dont have fun.
Many killer players don't find looping fun.
Decisive strike isn't fun for killers.
The hatch and slugging for the 4k isn't fun.
Infinite loops aren't fun.(Ironworks, Suffocation pit, haddonfield)
gen rush isn't fun.
Going against swf groups isn't fun.
See the problem with your argument yet?
-
Because the perk affects survivors and can stack with other perks that affect the same things, Thana can't be stronger.
Any perks they make that affect survivors will always be underpowered because they can stack. They should really stop making perks that affect survivors and create fun and effective perks that affect the killer.
Then solve the problems people have the game through core changes rather than through perks.

Consider this. A survivor DCs at the start of the match when they find out its a Spirit. The stats filter out DCs or so we've been told. But because of the 3v1 the Spirit is able to kill the remaining three easily. Are those three kills still counted or is the whole match thrown out?
This is a good point also.
In the case of a DC maybe the whole match should be thrown out.
-
I would have liked each node to have a challenge for survivors and a challenge for killers so players could choose what role they wanted to complete the challenge with.

I was going to take part, but this is geared towards survivor players.
If changes are going to be made to one side, there should be changes made to compensate the other.
-
I like how you complained about a perceived problem, but offered no suggestions about how to go about changing human behavior in an online competitive game.
Come up with some solutions and then figure out how to get players to adopt the changes without offending or insulting anyone to bring them to a place where they'd be willing to go through with your suggestions.
Until then, you're just complaining about complaining which is EVEN LESS constructive than a post that complains about the game.

You're forced to play survivor so you understand their problems, just like killer problems.
So is the purpose of the archive challenges to understand a side or are they just additional content?
The problem many people are having is that they're attributing more importance to learning the other side than these challenges actually provide.
-
@CrowFoxy said:
Sorry Space but this means you don't understand the survivor portion of the game at all, and it's about time you learn.
Or does it mean matches are going to be ruined because I don't care about the match and solely interested in finishing the challenges?
I finished the Archive level after several more matches than were necessary and I have no more appreciation for the role than when I started. I'm also no more skilled than when I started.
I have no desire to play the role again and I dread the next level where I'll be forced to ruin more matches.

I get that, but your not seeing my points. You cannot expect to get everything when you aren't willing to play the other half of the game. You have to put in 100% if you want 100%, but since you're putting in 50%, you're going to get 50%.
Just because Dead by Daylight is supposed to be "fun", that doesn't always mean it will play into your hands.
Also, I don't mean this to sound harsh, but it's the truth, this applies to everything — you get what you put in.
To clarify, I wanna say thank you for discussing this with me even through we have different view points. It's hard to find people who can disagree with me in a civilized manner! 🤗❤
This is only true if nothing is changed.
Which is the point of voicing concerns and issues such as these.

@NMCKE said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/100642/unique-challenge-problem
Personally, I would rather the game get you out of your comfort zone and try something else for once.
Only playing 50% of the game is not healthy because you only see things through that scope. Sure, you might have to spend some BP, but really, they can be earned back through play time. It's not like BP are a one and done type of currency. 😁
There is no comfort zone. It's not something I enjoy. Like some foods. You don't like some foods because you've tried them already so when you get food at your favorite place to eat you don't get that particular food.
You ignore the part of menu don't like and take part in the one that you do.
We have been given a buffet but we can't have desert until we've eaten the food we don't like from the breakfast section as well as the thing we do like from the lunch section.
Ideally, I'd like to see each node have a challenge for both killer and survivor. The PLAYER can then choose how they'd like to complete the node.
Whether they choose to run their main role, or try something new with the other role.
The main issue here is player agency and the ability to choose how they want to play.
-
Multiple emblem systems sounds interesting, but we can barely get them to simply change the current system.
The time investment for that probably wouldn't be worth it... even though it's a really good idea.
-

I guess it pays off to actually play both sides regularly and play a diverse group of survivors/killers. It helps you understand why certain balance changes are made. And it also helps you to see that there are unfair and frustrating things on both sides and the devs do not cater to either side.
Yeah if you don't want to play both roles it's unfortunate for you that you'll miss out on some content or potentially not be able to finish the rift. But that's your choice and to claim you're being coerced to play survivor is absurd.
Or does it force a player to play a role they don't enjoy which ends up ruining the match for the other players because the forced player is solely focused on finishing the challenges and nothing else in order to make the same progress as others.
Others are having a similar problem as survivor mains so I'm not alone.
Taking away player choice is rarely beneficial to the gameplay experience for everyone.

@AngryFluffy said:
I don't really enjoy playing killer, but I still do it from time to time to get better at the game in general.
I don't have a big problem to play both roles. I did all the killer ones in one day, they weren't that bad. I think the real problem is the difficulty of the higher rift tiers. I don't think that I will be able to complete tier 4. I'm not that good in playing killer and the survivor oes seem to be almost entirely luck based. Especially that you have to select one challenge and can only complete this special one could be problem I guess. At least for me.
All in all I really love the archives, brings some variety to the game. But I'm concerned about the higher tiers challenges. I think they might rather be frustrating than bringing fun to any role.
For me it's the problem of being forced (coerced) to play a certain way that I don't find fun or enjoyable.

I kind of get where you are coming from but what I’m getting from your post is you want an all killers or an all survivors tree. If This is a choice of take the killer skill tree or survivor skill tree then the many people who play both sides get screwed. I understand that some of these challenges are a bit crazy. One of the things that's gonna help me personally is that I have a killer and survivor prestige 3 with all the perks that I can have as I haven't bought all dlc. This is their first time doing this in a pretty unique game so there's gonna be some trial and error.
I'd actually prefer a node that has both options on it. this way it's the same tree, but everyone could complete it however they like with whichever role they prefer.

@SpaceCoconut, I subscribe to you on YouTube, but I'm seriously thinking about unsubscribing and not watching any more of your videos. You are so heavily killer sided, and you don't even try to hide it. I have approximately one thousand hours on this game, split pretty evenly between survivor and killer, so I understand both sides. Instaheals were an issue. Old moris (killing someone before they were even hooked) were an issue (still think survivors should be on death hook for mori). NOED is an issue. But are you really gonna complain because a survivor can vault a window three times? If you chase a survivor through the broken Irownworks infinite 3 times, that's your fault, not the survivors fault. If you chase a survivor through the Strode house, which has a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 windows, infinite, that's your fault. Learn how to abandon a chase and go for a survivor not close to a strong loop. Survivors need some sort of protection. But now you're asking if their ONLY form of protection is too strong. It's flat out ridiculous to ask that.
You can do whatever you want, I play killer because I hate playing survivor. I have 0 BP in survivor characters after nearly 2200 hours. I main Hag so loops generally aren't a problem.
But at what point in my post was I complaining? I was asking a serious question because I never play survivor so I don't know how big the impact would be.
Survivor players have pointed out the cons and they make sense.
Also, I never hide anything. I'm completely blunt and honest which is why the people who've been watching me for a long time continue to watch. If you can't respect someone else's opinion and playstyle then you can certainly move on.
There are plenty of better content creators out there than me.
-
This is what I'm thinking. I feel like it might be a reasonable change since it would encourage more interesting chases rather than long loops around some structures.

Killer perks aren't meant to counter survivor perks. They're meant to allow a certain play style/build or to cover your weaknesses as a killer. If for example I'm weak in chases as a killer. I'm going to bring perks that help to cover that weakness. Same if I need setup time. I'll bring ruin. Maybe corrupt intervention as well.
It depends on what your perspective is.
It can be said that all healing perks counter each other, all gen perks counter each other.

The problem with your argument about perks is the killer ones work against all survivors. By which I mean Bamboozle will give the same value against every survivor. Running two or three perks to counter one killer is not the same thing.
This is true.
This also means the killer has to deal with 16 perks. Not 4.
However the killer is also forced to do their job through those 16 perks with only 4 perks available. Those 4 killer perks HAVE to be able to have the same value against all survivors.
-
Like many other issues in this vein, the issue doesn't stem from the power of the killer, but from the strategy of the survivor.
YOU don't think there's no counterplay, but that's just because you don't have a good strategy against her.
Spirit is my 2nd main and at high ranks I'm often outplayed by good survivors. They have strategies that work against the spirit that you simply haven't thought of or refuse to utilize.
If you have a hard time winning a mindgame at a loop, maybe you should abandon the loop in a way that forces the spirit to phase or run.
Utilize perks that make avoiding her easier as well as perks that make it easier to throw her in the wrong direction because you're invisible when she phases.
There are things you can do. Perhaps you're not skilled enough yet, but with practice you can beat a spirit.
If you're worried about losing perks just to take care of one issue, welcome to the killer reality.
keys - franklins
rush - ruin
pallet loops - specific killers - spirit fury - enduring
jungle gyms - bamboozle
those are the ones that come to me first.
If survivors develop skill they won't need killers to be nerfed to stand a chance.
If killers continue to be nerfed, killer players will get better and adapt while your skill level remains stagnant and you beg for more nerfs later.
Just wait until the worse killers are balanced towards the middle. You'll find yourself at a skill based disadvantage regardless of the killer you face.
