I disagree. It's childish, rude and unnecessary. What's not a big deal is not liking the voice acting in a game that you can just not listen to.

Isn't that just the general forum population about everyone and everything in the game?

As a whole, every single member can be childish, rude, and provide unnecessary topics of conversation.

It really isn't that big of a deal.

  • I haven't checked it out since I'm not a fan of the lore, but I might have to after this...

Wrong, you can get hag with shards. No paywall.

And I did say it was easier with the ebony. ;)

How long does it take to earn 9k shards?

  • The change is very unfortunate, but on par with the devs way of balancing.

I'm surprised you dropped cash on them even though this change was in the PTB though.

I stopped giving them $$ before the spirit came out. Spirit was a gift from a viewer and I thank him in my mind every time I play her.

Lauri from Iceland thanks for spirit guy!

Ever since then I stopped buying cosmetics with shards and save it for new killers. I've only paid for Ghost and Demogorgon by himself for $5.

To support the devs after everything is to support questionable decisions.

    PSSSTTTTT... It's not for everyone.

    Who is it for then?

I'm pretty sure the devs said that casual play would allow a player to complete the challenges and the archive as a whole.

  • Design-wise their original purpose was to be the opposite of the killer's mori.

"Shouldn't the ranking system be fixed so it can accurately measure and rank skill?"

That just might be impossible. How to create system that can always determine skillful gameplay. How do you measure and differentiate mindgames, luck, pressure, decision making on both sides (like when it's right choice to camp as killer or just focus gens as survivor) and so much more.

Current system tries to do that but it's more of how well can you farm for certain categories. You can't win too fast as either side since that isn't skillful or devs seem to think so, you have to either be equals or toy with the side you're crushing. Tbh I don't think devs devised ranking system to encourage skillful gameplay but rather "fun" gameplay.

Anyway as devs recently said balancing isn't based on kill rate but rather on how fun/fair certain mechaincs are. Take nurse for example, people disliked that she can rapidly snowball and fast blink all the time so they added cooldown to give more wiggle time to lose LOS. Same changes await Doc, I bet his passive sceam mechanic is going away when they change him since it's not "fun" for survivors to be revealed so easily.

I haven't watched it yet but I will tonight. I did come up with a possible solution to the ranking by skill problem a few months ago...

  • @MeatBycicle said:

I agree that Nurse was incredibly strong and viable in red ranks but with that same fact how do you think she performs below red rank. Brown - Purple any competent Nurse is almost 100% 4k.

Same with spirit to and extent. Obviously I'm not talking about new Nurses or Spirits, but players with actually some time on them and know how they work.

This statement highlights the real problem though.

What is a competent Nurse player doing at brown-purple rank against lesser skilled opponents?

The real problem might not be the Nurse per se, but the issue of skilled players versus lower skilled players which means the ranking system is the issue, not the killer's power level.

I think they just want to break you out of your ritual. If you keep playing the game the same over and over you you're going to get sick of it. They are nudging you out of your comfort zone to try new things, things you would never do. You'd be surprised what you'll discover.

I've played this game since 2016. I simply don't like being told what to do in a game I purchased for my own enjoyment. Revoking player agency never does well unless the game is designed that way. If I find a way I enjoy playing for that period of time, why force me to play in a way I simply don't want to in order to complete an addition to the game?

@SpaceCoconut You mentioned the Battlepass again. Interesting thought about that. At the Steam forums and Reddit for Deathgarden, when folks talk about the game needing to go F2P to get players into it since they're averaging 50 or so peak a day, I see people replying with how the Deathgarden Devs have come out and stated that F2P and a cash shop are not necessary, because profits from Dead by Daylight are funding Deathgarden and keeping it afloat right now.

So, we have all the issues here, and now a new form of monetization, and the Deathgarden Devs come out and openly state that DbD is funding their development?

I don't follow Deathgarden enough to have seen such a Dev claim with my own eyes, but it might be worth you researching for a video.

Yes, companies the size of BHVR (and bigger) do such a thing all the time. But given all the lingering and new issues in DbD, and the questionable move to put a Battlepass into it to monetize it further, it does paint this whole thing in a bad light to me when the Deathgarden Devs allegedly come out and claim that a game with a 50 peak player daily base is being funded with profits from this game, in the condition this game is in.

Very interesting, can you message me some links to the quotes?

I'm speaking like, for most players... excluding the players that're able to loop most if not all Killers because they're skilled in-general at the Survivor role.

She's OP in the sense that casual players have trouble facing her, what she is for SURE is not fun to face (Most people don't like facing her, of course some do like the challenge though.) But, despite some people liking the challenge, it's pretty easy to say for a fact that it isn't fun facing a Spirit when 1, 2, and even 3 people DC'ed in your lobby...

That's another thing that Spirit contracts... the DCing issue... which ALSO isn't fun!

I was mistaken to say she was OP, I should've said she just isn't fun to face in-general... (Again, some people will disagree... but most won't because of the issues above.)

And yes, its ultimately up to the devs to choose what's best for the game... but that's why we can suggest things as well ;)

In regards to casual players, I really think that removing the rank reset, improving the ranking system as a whole will go a long way to solving this problem.

Everything is tied to each other and some problems can be solved by addressing another issue entirely.

  • I wonder how many battlepasses would be purchased if the free track was more generous.

Offering recolors of standard outfits or irdescent shards. Maybe BP offerings like puddings or something along those lines would go a long ways towards making the battlepass more palatable and improving the overall goodwill of people who dislike the system and giving more to the people who welcome it.

    But no.

Greed and manipulation are what they went for instead.

If that was the case, than we'd get a lot more diversity. I think that should be their #1 priority if it isn't already... it would increase the games health overall and help out a lot of the ranks, ESPECIALLY Red Ranks.

You do have to keep in mind though, that the OP Killers like Nurse and Spirit should still be addressed though, i'm not saying nerf Spirit into the ground... i'm saying she should be given more counter-play like Nurse has been given with her new limits...

I've been outplayed by decent survivors as the spirit plenty of times. She has plenty of counterplay but players choose not to learn that counterplay or utilize new strategies against the killer.

She's not OP by any means.

Survivor players complaining about her power level simply don't want to go against another killer that they can't just loop mindlessly.

We all have opinions on the matter, but what's important is what the devs end up doing to move the game further towards a balanced state.

Hopefully we'll start seeing changes to weaker killers to make them better. Not buffs per se, but simple changes like Hag setting traps faster. That little change made her so much better, but didn't buff her.

Yes, they can do whatever they want, it's their Killer/Survivor.

It's just nice to keep in mind that not every game needs to crush all the Survivors... especially when like half of them DC cause they didn't get a "good match."

But, they don't have to do at all of course... it would just be nice.

It would also be nice if weak killers were made to be better at higher skill levels. Edit: Then you wouldn't have the problem you're currently having with players playing good killers.

Some of these challenges are just absolutely ridiculous. They should know at this point that some survivors will DC out of spite to deny someone their reward.

I spent a match running circles on Yamaoka Estate to disturb 25 crows along the outer edge of the map.

Why would there be crows within the map? It would make too much sense.

Definitely a challenge that improved the quality of the match for everyone...

How hard is it to design challenges that improve a match?

Also, forcing players to play other roles to complete it is going to lead people like me to basically ruin matches for others because honestly, I'll only be interested in completing the survivor challenges since I really dislike playing survivor.

gaaahhh there's so much wrong with this, but so many blind followers don't even see it and the devs are perfectly happy paying attention to them and ignoring everyone else.

    :/

  • It's easy to listen.

It's just as easy to ignore.

    It's very hard to act.

@SpaceCoconut Yeah, I saw all that writing on the wall when they first talked about how the event was going to be done.

So, I've been playing the Dying Light Halloween stuff, Halloween Terror in Overwatch for the Sombra Demon Hunter skin this week (got the Baptiste skin from week two and Junkrat from week 1), and have simply been enjoying myself in State of Decay 2 which I just bought on its 50% off sale, and the Batman Arkham games that Epic gave away for free last month.

In other words, games that are not DbD.

I've seen your posts here and watched your videos since early September (when I first visited your channel). You are obviously unhappy with BHVR and the state of DbD. And I don't blame you. I agree with you. But have you considered just moving on? Or is your income, unfortunately, too married to this game?

And I mean none of that in a negative way. I've moved on, but I also made a conscious choice to never become a content creator for this game because I recognized the issues with BHVR's game design philosophy a couple years ago.

My wife has said the same thing. It's more like I'm very passionate about this game and frustrated that the devs make questionable decisions in regards to balance. I mean, designing killers to be deliberately weak against stronger survivors doesn't sound like a good balance decision to me.

Prioritizing a battle pass instead of changing up the store to make that income and then refocusing the balance team on the long standing core issues of the game would sound like an investment in bolstering the playerbase through better gameplay rather than taking advantage of the playerbase they have with their predatory battlepass.

Honestly, I've been playing a bit of Destiny 2 and Outer Worlds recently, but it's easier to create videos with dead by daylight matches with the limited time I have available. I'd have to spend several hours playing the other games in hopes of finding interesting footage or going through questlines to highlight specific weapons or storylines.

It's honestly just more convenient to do a match or two and use that as background footage or to highlight a specific problem... which also says a lot about a problem if you only need one match to highlight it and can get that single match in one try.

I have a full time job so I don't make anything from my videos. Maybe someday if I find the right style or if people actively look for dbd discussion videos, but for now I'm just a casual player who doesn't just like dead by daylight...

    https://youtu.be/zSoHkadTAxc

    And the devs consistently disappoint.

If I'm being honest, I'm just waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 and Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen at this point. I'm picky about what I spend my time on.

  • Welcome to the short sightedness and pretentious "we know what's good for you" of BHVR devs.

  • Don't worry, the "event" is 3k extra BP if you do an event objective.

Hook a survivor on an event hook, do an event gen.

If I'm right, the most you can get is 15k extra bp IF everyone brings offerings and IF you're able to do the event objectives.

Do the challenges instead. The BP payout is similar and you can use a pudding or ribbons to make it worthwhile.

  • Now if only they can do the same with...

The pressure on killers during a match compared to the pressure on survivors

    dc's

server latency and related gameplay issues

    gate distances during EGC

    fair consumer friendly monetization

camping, tunneling, looping, farming concerns by players

overall killer power level vs survivors

    Totem mechanics

core mechanics changes that shouldn't be fixed with perks

    subpar perks

specific killer issues (OP v UP)

    Mori's and Keys

    archive challenge completion issues

I could go on, but I'm at work.

Props are fine, but keep in mind the work remaining and ignored as well.

I can understand if ur trying a new killer out in the red ranks and u dc but DCing in a match just ruins people's fun when I play survs half the damn killers dc on my butt, so I tend to main killers, if I don't like the match or I'm getting destroyed then ok do all the gens I'll open the door for u so u can get out, if they proceed to t-bag me I'll chase them out by force or they will be downed and hooked

It was the 3rd match I was rushed on as demo. I was done at that point.

The game isn't healthy for many reasons and the devs/mods just chime in with PR bias about the situations regardless of the discussion being made.

  • Yes, I made a video about this a few times actually... F13's salt mines might be a great solution.

    https://youtu.be/xwh8Bhcw5m4

  • If I'm using stbfl I get as many tokens as I can and hook the farmer.

  • I dc'd again today.

    Rank 4

    Demogorgon with little experience

    The Game

4 gens done in 2:45 when I finally found and hit the first survivor.

    Definitely tilted.

Separate killer ranks is really needed in my opinion. I get to red ranks with killers I'm good with and can't play or practice with other killers. The built in frustrations that are supposed to be created by the game are at a level that drives people to not play.

Also, demo needs some sfx tuned down.

  • @paint1210 said:

No,it is not a good idea for every killer to have own bgm. Like demogron,it is so easy for survivor to determine in game just listen its special bgm for heartbeat even actually see the killer itself

    This isn't a good argument.

You know it's demogorgon due to the global noises he makes anyway. Having a special TR audio wouldn't change anything.

  • I really think everyone who's heard his renditions would be on board with this change.

  • Growth is stagnant.

The average player count over the last 30 days is only just over 20k. Which means after stranger things, the free weekend, the bloodhunt, the number of players peaked at 48k during that time and it can be assumed that the 28k players stopped playing dbd and moved on to something else.

The game isn't good at retaining players so players get tired of dbd for various reasons and after various amounts of playtime and leave.

New players come in and buy a dlc or two or leave due to the barrier to entry.

While the game isn't dying, it doesn't make itself easy to stick with.

Eventually, it's reputation will precede it and new players may not give the game a try. That's when the bleeding playerbase will become very noticeable.

    But cheer up!

The devs are focusing on new monetization tactics to squeeze every last dime from players before they leave to play something else ;)

  • I'd like it to have a killer instinct effect while active so you can find other survivors during the effect without having to rely on luck or another perk.

  • @GrootDude said:

I always thought it was overhyped. It's basically like watching C-span in space. It's all politics and fights between factions :/

Star Trek is more entertaining because it's just adventures in space.

  • I'll watch reviews before I spend money on it lol spoilers or no.

  • Dark Devotion needs some built in detection to make it a good perk for what it's intended to do.

Without detection, you're wandering around looking for survivors and you might not get any use out if it in a match.

The time constraints might be too heavy also.

As I recall he had some. Though he needs more.

But I'm not asking for a qol change. I'm asking for them to fix game breaking #########.

My point remains... how long did it take?

  • You know the trapper was one of the first killers in DbD?

Did you know he's still waiting for qol changes?

  • To paraphrase Anton Ego...

I don't like dead by daylight, I LOVE it.

If I didn't LOVE it, I wouldn't tell you what's wrong with it.

The people who "hate" this game and still play are what you would call dedicated players. They know the ins and outs of the game on a deeper level than the devs do and as a whole, might have better solutions to the various problems that plague the game.

The devs make questionable decisions at every chance they get and the players who are still in the honeymoon phase don't see them for what they really are... bad design choices.

Some are good, and they've made good progress on some issues. But many remain unresolved, even after many years.

Frustrations remain and are the driving force behind much of the discontent on the forums.

  • No longer phase passively.

When you would phase passively you leave behind a husk and become invisible as if you were phasing with your power.

This does not consume your power meter.

  • This is an interesting question.

While people will throw around "balance" and "core mechanics" around freely to get their point across, the deeper meaning of those words is more difficult to comprehend.

In the end what people are trying to fix in dead by daylight are the many mechanics and situations possible that make the game frustrating for players. While Mcote mentioned that frustration is good for a game in an interview, he failed to understand that the kind of frustrations players feel is where the issue is.

Back in the day, during a chase as a killer you'd come up on a survivor nearing a pallet and go for the swing. You'd of course miss because the survivor would zip to the other side.

This created negative frustration in killers due to the core mechanics of the game.

Today, this has been fixed to be more fair. Missing a swing like this is frustrating, but in a positive way.

When Killers (or myself at least) call for balance to core mechanics and improvements to weaker killers and perks, it's to alleviate the negative frustrations I feel due to them.

You can use this example and apply it to other issues that currently exist.

There are frustrating mechanics that favor one side or the other that the community has called for fixes for a very long time.

From exit gate locations to the gen rush, there are frustrations that can be addressed which will create balance in this asymmetrical game.

  • @malloymk said:

The bleed out timer is way too long. Just fix that.

This is a good idea too.

  • Killers have to slug for the 4k because survivors can't tell when they've lost and they should just go up to the killer to be sacrificed.

Come to the killer to end the match and you won't get slugged.

  • As a Hag main, if I get a series of bad matches I'll jump to Trapper, Freddy, or Spirit.

As any other killer with bad matches I'll jump to Hag :)

  • While many people are just snarky about this, the smarter ones see this for what it is.

Someone is loudly leaving the game due to the issues they feel are ignored by the devs.

For every one person who leaves loudly, how many leave quietly?

This game bleeds players which is why the average player count doesn't stay elevated after special events.

This is probably also why we got the archives and the rift. So the game artificially retains players through short term shiny things rather than long-term fun and balanced gameplay...

but we'll continue to see this sort of thing until the core game changes or the majority of players leave for other games.

I wouldn't celebrate or mock people who feel passionately enough about the game to explain why they can't play the game anymore. Whatever you say says more about you than the writer and they probably love the game more than you.

  • @Peanits said:

Making it injure survivors would completely negate a perk like Inner Strength and greatly reduce the value of others (i.e. Head On). Other survivors would just stop using them entirely once they know the killer's using it.

Exposed has a bit of a risk, but works better with other perks. It could backfire, but you can also outlast the effects. Maybe making the timer a little longer would help, but making it straight up injure you would discourage people from using lockers entirely (at which point, your perk isn't doing anything).

Which sounds like counterplay to me.

In the same way Empathy (I think) counters Knockout.

Also, survivors stop using lockers once they know it's being used right now anyway. There is little incentive within the core game to use lockers over terrain to hide from killers.

  • I'd always thought that limiting the % that a survivor could repair a gen would help this issue.

Like a single survivor could only repair a single gen up to 60%. If two or more survivors were on a gen then it could be finished as normal, but a single survivor would have to move on to another gen when the cap is reached.

This would keep the time spent on gens the same for survivors, but give the killer more time since survivors would have to move between gens in order to complete them.

Some adjustments would be needed, but that's the general idea.

Edit: This would also make shroud of separation a good offering rather than a penalizing one.

They can't make a competitive scene because it'd be ridiculous to an outside audience. A bunch of teenagers running a serial killer around piles of junk and dropping rainbow-colored wood on their head isn't the best for E-sports viewing.

Well I mean... Nascar is a thing...

  • We'll probably only see one killer and one survivor for the most part. If there is an extra character in a tome, it'll be a survivor.

The killers are the main draw of the game, so it makes sense that they'd limit them in the tomes.

1 … 20 21 22 23 24 … 33
