The value of the perk is a situational niche perk that works in a specific set of circumstances which will give you maybe a hit at best... tell me what is the value that you see

Nothing I say will matter because others have already said it in this thread so I won't waste my time since you've already made up your mind.

Like I've said... It's perfectly ok that you don't see the value in the change.

  • They haven't confirmed or denied whether we will be able to earn serum to buy cosmetics this year.

    We'll find out tomorrow.

But many including myself think that we won't actually be able to earn free cosmetics this year.

Uhh the full perk description is still not a good perk, and the full change wasn't documented in the patch notes either, wanna keep being snarky?

Not being snarky, just pointing out that it's ok that you don't see the value in the perk.

I mean okay? So it might be good on stealth killer but then spine chill and premonition counters it, but why would a stealth killer run mindbreaker over all the other better meta perks? Then you are banking on a survivor actually having sprint burst... you see how situationally dependent this perk still is?

It's fine if you don't see the value in the perk by not paying attention to the whole perk description.

  • @Hex_DemoMain said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/199132/mindbreaker-is-a-solid-perk-now

You can walk away and get sprint burst back before a 32 or even 24 meter terror radius killer gets to you in 5 seconds, this is a menial change that doesn't fix the perk at all

    If you know they're coming.

  • I'm comparing this to the Archive Hag skin and man they did so much better here. It's especially good because Legion is 4 people and body horror like this makes complete sense in this situation.

It's a shame they missed the mark with the Hag skin, but this Legion skin is perfect.

Killers could just join a game and find The Entitys flame to earn the halo, survivours had to find AND survive while glowing brightly! but Killers Halloween event item being limited shows bias. 🤔 Did The anniversay event show the survivour bias...

    pfft.

This is a good example of a Strawman Argument for those who were unsure.

The original issue was in regards to the difference in usage times between the survivor and killer halloween event items.

The poster responds to the issue by citing an unrelated event and situation in order to discredit the original issue.

In response to the quoted text.

Once obtained were both roles allowed to use their earned item after the event was over?

How about the fact that this game used to be unbelievably broken in favor of survivor and since then killer has been steadily buffed? How about the fact that they have a strong economic incentive to make the game fun for both sides?

I don't know anything about the event or what these add-ons even are. I'm just tired of constant unfounded claims of anti-killer bias.

Note to everyone "Unfounded" now means "ignore all evidence".

If you don't know anything about the event or what these addons even are, then maybe you could do a little digging so you might understand the issue better.

By not doing so, you make yourself look like yet another uninformed or willfully blind white night for bhvr.

Well idk maybe it's because insane mobility on every killer would be game breaking. Imagine otz runninf that serum every game and I can ASSURE you his pop value and chase times are gonna be better exponentially

These addons are only obtainable from a yearly event... how long would a supply of them last if a player used them in every match?

I believe the serum for Killers is actually a test trial for that "early game pressure" system they are working on, if they actually implement something like that the Killer Add-on would be redundant.

This is obviusly my idea and not a rumor Ive heard anywhere.

    That's actually an interesting theory...

I am expecting the worst as long as I don't know how it'll turn out. However, the cynic in me is full expecting a "no way to get free skins without excessive grind" take on this year's Halloween event.

I really wanna say what was leaked rn so I will put it in a spoiler

    Spoiler Spoiler Warning ▲ ▼

The prices for the cosmetics were leaked, they will cost Iri shards for some, others exclusive to Cells

I saw that too, but I'm still hoping that they "forgot" to mention the freebies coming... and no I'm not talking about the charms that we have to follow their socials to get the codes for.

Because Behavior doesn't care about the concept of "fairness." You of all people should know that lol

That add-on has a restriction because its more work on the developers to maintain. They're setting limits on it probably because they can foresee it being like old Tinkerer where they have an extra thing to code and bugfix every chapter

I was thinking that since there will be a limited amount in circulation that they would simply ignore issues that it causes since ignoring issues is kind of what they do anyway...

  • @Pawcelot said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1688943#Comment_1688943

The reason why they're not telling us anything is probably because its even worse than last year's Halloween event. The grind is going to be worse. Heck, I am expecting that we won't even be able to earn Serums to unlock skins this year. Everything to make people fall victim to FOMO and spend money.

Whether they stay quiet or not doesn't matter since the event will happen anyway and we'll find out whether we're overreacting or not.

I'm hopeful that I'm mistaken and they simply didn't mention the serum available in the battlepass and decided not to say anything and simply let us be pleasantly surprised.

The "event" being tied into the battlepass still sucks, but if we have access to free Halloween goodies it's more tolerable imo.

  • @Kamizake12 said:

Killer addon seems weird but I like it, it seems cool. But the survivor one is a simple boost lol, that's boring

The issue is that survivors can still use their addons after the event ends while Killers can only use their addons during the event.

  • @gatsby said:

One add-on messes with game mechanics. The other just grants a movement speed boost.

My guess is that the Devs just didn’t want to commit to constantly updating and bug fixing the Killer add-on forever, since it alters Killers powers. If they don’t want to maintain the coding to keep it working, they can just name the Halloween event something else and effectively retire it.

So in the interest of fairness and avoiding the feel-bads, why wouldn't they impose the same limit on the survivor addon especially if it's a simple movement speed boost?

  • @Pawcelot said:

Again with the "no one's forcing you" / "its optional" argument. Its not true since you're FORCED to participate in the Rift/Challenges if you want any skins. You need to take off the "BHVR cannot do anything wrong" merchandise.

This might be an interesting video topic...

  • @PyroGL said:

I understood why they put the serums into the Rift last year; since it was the first Rift, they wanted to ensure we would play the new content. But with the lack of mention of the serums, I fear they will simply add some of the Halloween skins to the Rift and split them among the free and paid tracks. Not only that, but without the serums, we can't use them to by the older Halloween skins.

I actually forgot that this is what they did with the serums last year... Maybe that's where they'll be again this year :)

You make it sound like just cause they bring a flashlight they're gonna find every single one of hags traps, while also being able to crawl up to it and disable it. You can just say because it has the ability to disable a trap that hag just can't use her power cause that's just foolish.

This statement leads me to believe that you've never played as Hag against a survivor with a flashlight who knows how to use it against the Hag.

  • @JacobD said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1683773#Comment_1683773

I mean flashlights run out though, and your not gonna be able to flashlight burn a trap mid chase unless you want to take a hit nullifying the action as a whole, and with oppressive hag is I think its fine for her to have some counterplay.

How much time would be wasted by the time they run out, how many gens would be done by the time the hag could use her power? And a good survivor can burn a trap mid chase on a loop.

  • @JacobD said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/198233/should-they-remove-the-flashlight-counter-to-wraith-hag

Wraith sure he's already a weak killer with more counter play then most killers, hag id say nah shes a very strong killer and I'm fine with her having more counterplay.

The problem here is that the counterplay completely negates her power making the match an unavoidable loss if done right.

I'm not sure if you've played as hag against a competent flashlight user or not, but pretend that every time you went to a pallet as a survivor the killer could break it before you got to use it.

    It's sort of like that.

  • I've never thought that survivors should have so much power over a killer that they could prevent the use of their ability entirely.

    Disarming Trapper's traps

    Lightburning shrouded Wraith

    Destroying Hag's traps

    To a lesser degree...

    Breaking Ghost out of stealth

Not cleansing versus the Plague before her buff.

There are probably good arguments why the first 3 examples work, and the other 2 examples are less impactful, but I've always thought that it would be much healthier if survivors could only react and avoid those particular killer powers much like the other killers rather than being able to actively disable them.

The Ghost's might not be so bad if a survivor couldn't break him out of stealth while they were completely obstructed by an object preventing the Ghost from being able to see the survivor who revealed him.

    But I digress.

    Ungrateful?

The event they gave us 2 years ago was a lot of fun. Dumb yes but fun all the same. They even gave us 2 sets of cosmetics rather than the intended 1 to appease fans who felt a little disappointed by the prizes.

Fast forward 2 years and now we get....a rift. Yay another rift. With its repetitive and grindy challenges.

Its easy to slap out a rift than to create a good event and more importantly it makes more money. There’s no money in having good events.

Pay for some boring grindy missions and pay to unlock new costumes.

The direction this game has been going is not good. Its like they’re so scared of the company being a 1 hit wonder they’re milking DBD for all they can get.

Your last sentence is really what I think is going on. This is especially noticeable when we look at Deathgarden and there aren't many more "good" licenses left to get in my opinion which means they're left to their own creativity with new killers if this game lasts for a few more years.

You know, DbD's basically taking the Overwatch route of boring events that are just an excuse to throw out more skins. Except they're all locked behind annoyingly grindy battlepass systems and auric cells. And Overwatch actually has long term growth potential with sequels. And Blizzard quality.

The long term future of this game is looking grim. I know they've got their hands full with Covid and next gen and all but sheesh. Probably going to be a skip here for me.

I was looking at the overwatch event and I liked how you could unlock a new skin by completing a weekly event based on that character.

  • This is a big "if" I have as well.

If we go by the current offerings in the store, this years blight cosmetics will cost around 21 thousand iridescent shards.

From 0 shards that's about 500 matches to earn enough shards for a set.

At 10 minutes per match that's about 83 hours of matches.

I'm preparing my next video and this is a big part of it.

Hopefully they simply forgot to mention it.

  • @OldHunterLight said:

    Hmm... that's a yes.

People taking break from playing after burn out from grinding to complete the rift. I noticed people I used to see only streaming DBD are even taking break right now between rifts and playing other games until the next rift starts.

I don't think it's because of the rift though. Streamers don't care about the rift since they play enough to get the rewards regardless and probably finished the rift weeks ago.

I genuinely think players are simply burned out and the reality of the game has gotten to many people along with the fact that it probably won't much different months from now.

  • @Mandy said:

Fog Whisperers are not chosen to help with the game. Fog Whisperers are part of advertising and marketing and get rewarded for that - game balance is not in that area in the slightest.

The Developers take opinions from many sections, forums, twitter, streams etc and try to take unbiased opinions...of which very few opinions are unbiased though.

The problem is that the Dev's own opinions aren't unbiased either.

Bias exists everywhere and if a dev can't recognize their own bias and simply ignores the opinions of players simply because they think they're biased then the devs are guilty of the exact same bias without realizing it.

  • You're the reason Undying, Ruin & NoED are fine.

  • The same if they're too far apart and it takes the killer 16 seconds to get to the opposite side of the map.

  • "You'll wish you were."

  • They tried.

    It was called Deathgarden.

  • If you're saying that the non-licensed DLC's are "free" you're forgetting that it takes weeks of grinding iridescent shards to earn enough to "buy" the "free" dlc.

I spend 9k shards for just the killer when I can, which according to this chart equals around 200 games.

At 15 minutes per game that's 50 hours of matches.

This doesn't include the lobby, playing in the bloodweb, or the scoreboard screen... strictly matches JUST for the Killer.

"Free" content doesn't exist in Dead by Daylight anymore. Everything costs time or money.

To be fair, they wasted 5 minutes of your time. Let's not pretend they are pathetic human beings for not wanting to skip a game they don't think is fun.

Sounds like one of those dc'er twitchies to me.

  • I actually had a scenario where a single dead hard turned the game around and was very demoralizing to say the least after fighting through all of the other meta perks.

It was during a stream so I'll have to find the match, but I think this is a good discussion to have since I have an example for it's use.

    Is it unfair?

    I'm not so sure.

The problem isn't that Dead Hard can be used for distance or erase a mistake, it's that Survivors have several perks that erase mistakes or can be used "offensively" against the Killer's objective.

The issue comes down to time and efficiency for the killer, so any perk that takes time away from the killer allowing Survivors to spend more uninterrupted time on gens can become very problematic when used in conjunction.

Which is exactly why the Survivor meta is the way it is right now.

Sounds like you wrote my next video for me lol

I don't care about the game one way or another. That's just what I heard from people who played it and it is supported by the fact that it died almost immediately, long before the lawsuit.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1657803#Comment_1657803

This is the case Orion brings up, but the game's playerbase died out for various reasons and are no longer in active development.

And why do you think DbD's playerbase hasn't died out, if it's not related to the fact that DbD is just the better overall game?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1657790#Comment_1657790

When games started out, they were all "pick up and play" - Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Prince of Persia, and so on - and they were quite successful. Making a complex game for its own sake inevitably results in failure.

Gaming is a hobby, whereas trying to wrap your head around something that's extremely complex from the start feels like work. Nobody wants their hobby to feel like work.

    I like this question actually.

The other games made the mistake that they thought they could grow an audience the same way DbD did. If we look at DbD when it came out and compared to to other games on their early access builds all of the games might be comparable.

DbD has have 4 years to create and build up the game from it's early days making it more refined than it was.

If a company wants to create a game that can grow to be as successful as DbD it needs to focus on the things they're doing right, make them better, and fix the things they aren't doing as well because like it or not, DbD is the benchmark of the genre.

The quality of the gameplay should be better than DbD while the graphics should be good, but they don't have to be breathtaking because graphics don't make the game. (Anthem)

  • @Orion said:

You guys do know you don't have to do the rifts, right?

You should read the rest of his post.

Also, think about this whenever you make this comment. It's a rough analogy, but I'm focusing on the feelings of the people involved more than the technicalities of it.

Ice cream truck parks at the park and kids run to get ice cream.

The kids who take the longest to get to the truck may miss out on ice cream because the truck will leave before they get there.

So the kids ask for help from the ice cream truck driver to park a little closer so they can have ice cream too.

Of course you as an adult can tell them that they don't need ice cream, completely ignoring the feelings that these kids had of wanting ice cream and lamenting the distance they had to travel to get it.

Try to consider the player's feelings about why they're posting and then respond.

  • @Mandy said:

And yet there's been other games whilst DbD has been in existence that haven't lasted the distance, The Last Year, Hide or Die, RE Resistance, as well as Friday 13th of course.

So whilst you might think there's no competition, there is in fact plenty of competition.

I'll try and help you understand.

There are many games (the ones you listed) that have TRIED to compete with DbD. Or at least tried to enter the genre.

    @Orion said:

There's been plenty of asymmetrical horror multiplayer games before and after DbD was released. The problem is that they all sucked (compared to DbD) and failed to retain players, so they died out.

This is the case Orion brings up, but the game's playerbase died out for various reasons and are no longer in active development.

This means that those games have failed to enter the genre.

The OP's last sentence points out the main issue they're bringing to light.

"This game could be so much better if there was actual competition."

Currently, DbD has no active competition.

Competition drives further innovation and effort to do new things that invigorate the playerbase with passion and urgency.

    Complacency breeds contempt.

It would only improve the game if the devs weren't so seemingly complacent in their success.

The OP wishes for a real competitor to come in and stick around long enough to influence the DbD devs to improve themselves and the game.

  • They're just clearing up the language for players who don't understand the terms to make it easier to understand some perks.
