My god. the amount of people that take popular streamers' opinions (not just True) as holy gospel is astounding.

Because making your own opinion is hard, apparently.

I honestly wish this wasn't the case and maybe the devs would be more inclined to listen to the community

  • Filled out the survey, hope you got what you wanted Fibi 👍️

  • Currently in "Playing LEGO Batman"-Club.

  • Biggest problem with DBD right now is Map Design.

They are either confusing to navigate unless you memorize them (Lery's, The Game), way too big for killers with no mobility powers to traverse (Temple of Purgation, Gas Heaven), or are just generally an annoyance to play in (Sanctum of Wrath).

I would actually pay money, monthly, just for them to not work on DLC or new content or whatever and just focus on map design. Making it much better for every killer/survivor. So Killers won't have to rely on Ruin, and Survivors won't have to rely on memorizing every map in the game (seriously it can be confusing to find gens in The Game)

  • Yes, Ruin was a terrible perk.

But it was one of the few perks that helps out for early game pressure for most killers in the roster. And that early game pressure is important.

  • I'm a no-ruin killer.

I hate the perk, hate seeing someone use it whenever I play survivor, and will always go out of my way to encourage people to not use it.

That said, I can understand why some people use it. Early game pressure is very important for the killer, and Ruin is an easy way to create early game pressure without much effort. Not to mention most killers can't really pressure early gens all that well compared to killers like Nurse or Spirit.

  • You won't hear sympathy from killer mains when the matchmaking starts to tank..

Which I hope won't happen, because I play both sides equally. It would suck to not be able to play survivor as much as killer.

  • I have other games to play first over DBD right now. As fun as it is to slice and dice survivors in this game, admittedly it has a lot of technical flaws that prevents me from enjoying it as much has I could right now.

  • I may still play the game from time to time, but not to the extent that I used to.

There are other games that are just more fun for me to play right now. Like LEGO Batman 2.

  • I'd like to believe the devs are well-intentioned. They want to make the best game they possibly can for both sides.

However, they are doing it in some of the most grossly incompetent ways I've seen in a long time. The timing for the recent Designer's Notes change was just not excellent. And it sparks what can only be described as a Great Fire across the forums.

Will surge even work with it? They already said PGTW won't work since the gen is already in regression. I would imagine the same is true for surge.

Almo literally just said it probably won't work with Surge.

2020-01-07 11_11_40-Just a comment about the motivation behind the Ruin update - Page 2 — Dead By Da.png

  • I feel like it's just going to start going downhill from here.

I have hope this game will come back and be better, but this is not giving me a lot of confidence.

  • Guys, don't feed the troll.. It's obvious he is just doing this to get a reaction out of you. Seriously, just ignore him. He is not worth your time or attention.

  • Alright, so if it is more brutal for new survivors.

Then what about experienced survivors? If I saw sparks flying the moment I stop working on a gen or realize a gen has less progress than before. I would know Ruin is in play, and I would not stop working on that gen.

Even if the killer can drive me off a gen, he can only focus on one person at a time. So another person can go back and work on that gen if I am being chased.

I fail to see how this will be helpful to anyone. And I really dislike Ruin. Like heavily dislike it.

"it haz to be contustiveeeeeeeeeee like the paper in my class"

No it doesn't. This thread and every post in it is a waste of people's time.

I mean there's a reason the devs don't listen to the forums. Because everytime they open their mouths they tend to be bashed by the community. WOuld you want that?

  • I do agree, I've seen some vile things come out of this forum. And I also agree that the devs should not take all of it at face valie.

The devs are well-intentioned, why wouldn't they be? We're effectively paying customers that keeps giving them money as long as we get more content for the game.

But I feel like the devs also tend to miss a lot of what they're aiming to do, and end up pissing off a lot of people unexpectedly (or expectedly, like with the recent Designer Notes post).

I understand why they make these changes, really I do. They want to make this game accessible to new players. But because of that, it makes the game much more harder for more experienced players. Ironically the higher you rank up, the easier the game tends to be as a Survivor. Because the killers become more predictable as they start using more and more meta perks.

  • @Almo said:

We expected outrage when doing a fundamental change to a perk used in such a large percentage of games. However, after playing with the new version, we're much happier with how it functions in the game as part of the whole system.

Not to be offensive here, Almo. But if you expected outrage for this perk to be changed, why change it?

Or better yet, why didn't you ask yourself why it was in such a large percentage of games rather than make a change that you think is better? Obviously despite how well intentioned you guys are, there has been some obvious misses in the past and the community knows it and remembers it.

Now, I don't use Ruin. I think it's a horrible perk. But clearly a lot of people do for a pretty good reason as well. Rather than just drop a bombshell like this so suddenly, why not just gradually introduce the idea and let the players help make the change?

My build is BBQ, Thana, Pop, Discordance, Outdoor Rope, Sheep Block.

Thana + Rope will help to slow down the game. Hit a survivor and it's a 6% debuff to everything. If everyone is injured and asleep it's 18%. Basically Rope augments Thana to be a tad stronger than it normally is (which is pretty strong IMO if you can juggle injured survivors). BBQ/Discordance is to track survivors and gen progress. After a hook you use teleport + Pop to shut down the gen. When you factor in the slowdown from Thana + Rope that 25% is very significant (basically you knock off about 30s with Pop if everyone is injured and asleep, where it would be 20s without Thana + Rope).

Sheep Block is special. I've come to find that OOO specifically is a VERY hard counter to Freddy, as the obsession can always see you regardless of distance when they are asleep. Sheep Block inflicts 30s of Blindness which is all you need to get the advantage in a chase, as now looking at you in any form will only reveal their aura to you. It also helps against other aura perks, but it's mainly to beat OOO which is very difficult to play around otherwise as Freddy.

If you are less confident in your Freddy skills, you can use Jump Rope or Swing Chains instead of Outdoor Rope, and Unicorn Block instead of Sheep Block. You can use Red Paint Brush here and there, but I wouldn't use it too much because you won't see yourself improve as a Freddy. Better to save them for games where you think survivors might give you a hard time (eg. SWF).

Avoid dream pallets. They are fun from time to time, but they are WAY less reliable than snares. You can only place pallets in certain places, and they do nothing against window loops. Snares can be put anywhere and help at any loop at any time. Dream pallets are also very easy to play around if survivors know you have it. They either avoid pallets they aren't sure are real, or just run to windows. On certain maps you literally have no power in a chase, and it will suck.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/965236#Comment_965236

IMHO, if you need STBFL on Freddy you must not be a good Freddy. In fact, you shouldn't need any chase perks at all on Freddy if you know how to use snares properly. It's like using NOED or MYC on one shot killers like Myers or Billy, it's super redundant and a waste of a perk slot. You are better off with game slowing or tracking perks as they would have an actual greater impact on your ability to control the game.

My tactic for Freddy is probably different than yours because I typically don't rely a lot on Snares. They're great and can help get easy hits, but I don't rely on them.

I rely on my teleporation ability which is why I use BBQ & Chili and Discordance as a combo. It will continuously let me know which generators survivors are working on. Or which direction a survivor is going so I can go for an ambush with a gen teleport.

Typically on a normal playthrough of a game, I place Snares around safe loops during the start of a match so I could catch survivors there when they fall asleep. When chasing, I try to go for a hit and run tactic. Make sure everyone's asleep so I can teleport more often and they are more scared of me placing snares. (I've seen survivors run away by just me initiating the animation, it works well enough for me)

I used to use Brutal Strength in place of STBFL but I find that STBFL just makes it so much more easier to end a chase and starting a new one right after. Brutal Strength used to be my combo wtih PGTW but STBFL just makes it so I can focus more on the chase (which is what I typically do whenever I play killer, I don't like to just gen patrol or stealth. I want the chase.)

I also use STBFL over Brutal Strength because typically I think the lower attack cooldown makes up more time compared to Brutal Strength. With Brutal Strength, you'll save time most when there are still pallets to break. Since Freddy is an M1 Killer, his main attack is all he can do to damage survivors. Meaning you'll get more stacks on STBFL naturally. Meaning you'll get full stacks in no time. Meaning you'll start shredding down survivors as if you have permanent Mad Grit.

  • Taking a break for 2 weeks from playing Dead by Daylight.

Been feeling a lot more mentally well and I'm proud of that.

  • I'm speechless. You can't compare a AAA company game to an Indie game. You can't compare a game with MUCH LESS variables than DBD. It's completely ridiculous/absurd/outrageous/ludicrous/pick whichever synonym you like. DBD is an Indie game that got popular. But even then it doesnt have the millions of concurrant players that Fortnite has.

  • The new Rank Reset just makes me not want to play DBD a lot... Because Red Ranks are really stressful.

  • Tier 70 for like a week now.

If the game reach a point that someone want to suicide/leave/dc, maybe is because it's already ruined.

Really now? I've had survivors suicide on their first hook because I hooked them before any gens are done.

I've had survivors deliberately run towards me because they found out I am playing Freddy.

I've had survivors in my own team when I am playing as Survivor willingly stop playing the game normally because they dislike what perks the killer is running.

In what way has the game been ruined then? The only reason to DC are three things: Internet Issues, Real Life Emergencies, and the game being taken hostage.

Soo give a option for killer kill themselves also.

    It's a game, not a frickin job.

Yes, and killing yourself ruins the game for the other 4 players. And I wonder what BHVR would decide to do by then?

  • @rickyray101 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/917601#Comment_917601

And rude players such as yourself is what makes this game toxic. I'm almost to the point of where I don't enjoy the game anymore and will move on to another game. I'm a high rank survivor btw so I know what I'm doing. Yes let's buff every killer but nerf everyone that's a survivor. SMH.

    "High Rank Survivor"

You are aware ranking up as Survivor is so easy, you don't even have to try right?

  • @rickyray101 said:

Of course the ones who disagree are the ones probably doing it themselves.

BW is one of the worst Endgame perks because, as previously stated, it is dependent on one of the gates opening before it can be triggered.

Even then it's not triggered for long.

If you want BW to be nerfed so badly, look at yourself for a second and tell yourself this:

    "I need to get good"

    You got that?

  • @blackx2 said:

Yes, please for the god saken, I don't care either about bloodpoints or pips, after all these years it doesn't matter anymore

A free option to suicide/giveup on dying state, and just give 9999 bloodpoints + 1 kill for the killer and leave a token for mori/hooks, whatever the killer what to do

No one should obligated to play a match that isn't fun

No, that is literally circumventing the DC bans and punishments that are about to be put in place.

You may not have fun, but you have to stick to it to the end. I may hate OoO but the most I can do when I realize I can't do anything is go to a corner, be AFK for a bit, and then tell the survivors to leave when the gens are done.

Did I have fun? No. But did I do other things to spend my time? Yes.

  • The fact that you haven't learned to 99% as a survivor is pretty telling.

I am pretty much against 99ing the gates myself as a survivor as I feel that the EGC should start the moment the gens are powered, but BW is literally the most counterable endgame perk the killer has. It is litlerally dependent on one of the exit gates. Your *escape route* to be open before it activates.

  • I may try out Surveillance on my Freddy build instead of Discordance from time to time.

I do however mainly use Discordance for early game pressure since most survivors spawn close to each other, making it easy to tell which gens I should patrol first.

But, using Surveillance does feel like it might have some more interesting plays.

  • Adding a suicide option is basically asking the devs to give you a way to circumvent the DC bans.

    No.

  • Old Freddy.

As much as I love New Freddy, he will never replace my love for Old Freddy.

  • I feel like we shouldn't nerf a perk by giving less bloodpoints in favour of a stronger ingame effect. I doubt most people who run BBQ and Chili & WGLF will like seeing their BP gains lowered, making the grind artificially longer than it already is.

BBQ and Chili is very common because it helps killers get to the next chase faster and gives them a nice bonus Survivor Pudding. Which again, reduces the grind by a lot. Also, the fact it's very common is a good thing as most killers who does run it won't be incentivized to camp a survivor near a hook and forcing them to run to the other side of the map to catch another survivor. To both get another stack and a chance at killing them.

I would make a more detailed answer to your other suggestions, but I don't really have the time and I would just be repeating myself a lot. Sorry, but I personally think a lot of these are pretty bad in general. I'm not going to lie to you. The reworks are either unnecessary or the nerfs are a bit too much.

  • @Ace_Of_Spades said:

Here's my pitch. Try and switch Freddy to Englund's model and give him voice overs! Like a "welcome to my nightmare" when you enter dream or something. Lots of great quotes to use. At least a laugh when you drop a fake pallet.

    Oh yes! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

I would even pay for the DLC twice over just so Englund is the one voicing Freddy.

So you guys missed it completely in internal testing and for the entire time it was shown on the PTB, yet still released it.

    Right.....

It was discovered during the PTB and they didn't exactly have the time to change that immediately from when the PTB ended and the time the chapter releases.

Flailing your arms, although it doesn't mean as much as it used to. So many people don't know what it means that I wouldn't suggest relying on it.

You're right, because I flail my arms when the killer is NOT camping or is away from the hook.

  • The problem with the forum is that people will get angry or toxic if the devs don't immediately change something that fits their agenda.

That's basically it. A lot of this forum can be catered off to two groups of people actually. People who care about balance and people who only care about their side winning. And that's basically it.

  • Thank you for making this thread.

~ A fellow Killer main that actually cares about balance

  • If you still try to struggle, I won't hesitate putting you on a hook.

Thankfully most survivors struggle at the end.

  • I like these suggestions. I feel like these suggestions would give Freddy more wiggle and legroom when it comes to build flexibility.

Snares revealing survivors who step on them reminds me of old Freddy. God I miss that glorious bastard. I wouldn't mind any of these to replace most of Freddy's add-ons right now. They seem fun and great to use and go up against.

Not needing add ons isn't a good excuse for having bad add ons. He has an add on now that adds less than 2 seconds to a gen, and now that scales up to a very rare that adds 6 seconds, and that 6 seconds is CONDITIONAL.

That compared to other killers' add ons is pathetic, like Trapper has instadown traps, Hag has stealth traps, Pig gets to cut the RBT timer down by 30 seconds. This is just a pitiful waste of 6000 bloodpoints.

I'm not saying I don't disagree with you. But Freddy doesn't necessarily need to slow the game down more than he is already capable of doing. If you're asleep the survivor will waste time to wake up anyways.

While yes it may be better if they changed the add-ons with something else, given how quick this update was from the last one I doubt they had much time to think about much in terms of balance with these three add-ons.

  • Christmas Hats! Christmas Hats!

  • I just hope Freddy can have Wes Craven's New Nightmare cosmetics now that he is owned by the Craven Estate again.

I love Freddy and I wish to have him have his old look compared to the 2010 version and new cosmetics.

  • @anarchy753 said:

I think that it was perfectly justified to nerf the build, especially when we've seen that Freddy has an immense winrate, and assumedly since these were the only things touched, it's because of the "Forever Freddy" build.

My issue with this change is that rather than replace the add ons with something worth running, they've all just been nerfed to values so low that it's not worth running any of them any more.

They basically just deleted add ons when they could have changed them. And Freddy already had enough junk add ons before this with all his haemmorhage and blindness nonsense.

I mean he doesn't really need to rely on Add-ons to begin with.

Plus the nerfed rope add-ons are still pretty good. The most you can get were 8 seconds from a maxed out Swing Chains add-on. So I doubt it'll be a huge gamechanger to nerf it this low.

how about you take a hard look how 5 generators can be powered within 3 minutes. :)

That's a myth and you know it.

If the killer focuses solely on a single survivor and never lets up the chase until every gen is done that is still a full 4-5 minutes of survivors only doing gens.

Not to mention the time it takes for you to look for a gen, running around the map not working on anything.

Not only that but the kind of situation you're talking about is rare unless the person the killer is chasing has Object of Obsession.

Stop perpetuating this myth that killers are absurdly weak. They're not, and I'm one the biggest killer mains in this forum. We don't need this game to be completely imbalanced on one side. As long as you, as the killer, can do your job well. You can stop a gen from being popped even 5 minutes into the game.

  • "Surfers"

    "Maniacs"

I didn't know DBD was beach teamed.

  • Hello, Freddy main here. One might say I'm fanatical about him.

These changes were warranted and should've come earlier. The Forever Freddy build is obnoxious and waking up simply isn't as simple as you think it is.

Most people who use Forever Freddy also runs it with Red Paintbrush and old Swing Chains. That's a 12% decrease for both awake and asleep survivors. Meaning it's around 8 more seconds.

Combine that with the increase Dying Light adds as well as Thanatophobia and you can start to see what the problem with that build is.

If your solution is to wake up, remember that Red Paintbrush limits your ability to wake up by either getting woken up by an awake survivor (everyone is asleep at the start of the trial) or waking up via the alarm clock (which wastes so much time)

This build has been problematic for a while and there's a reason a lot of good Freddy mains despise it as it taints the killer in a bad light.

What they did with Freddy's add-ons was the right call. Anything more or less than that would be overnerfing him or making no change whatsoever.

    Thank you for reading.
