The whole point of the MMR is to be an accurate depiction of skill, as opposed to the ranking system, which mostly depicts play time.
I took a long break from this game some time ago and wound up back in rank 20, despite my many hours of experience. According to you, I should've been matched with rank 20 killers, as opposed to people who are closer to my skill level, because I was also rank 20, even though I was only rank 20 to begin with because I stopped playing.
If the MMR performs as advertised, rank will be irrelevant for matchmaking. That's to be celebrated, not complained about.
Ok sorry I didn't phrase it completely right. Newer players or players who are what everyone thinks rank 20 players are, based on skill, going up against red rank survivors who play every day. That type of situation. That's what I'm worried about. We are in the same boat buddy.
I am excited for the mmr thing when it works. But going up against New killers etc. Is not something that I wanna see. That's not fun.

Honest question, not coming at you: have you recently DC'd a recent amount? I came across this guy who was bragging about how he DCs when a killer has a mori. He was rank 20. But always goes against red rank killers now. Makes me wonder.
No, I really despise dc'ing. I think I've done it once so a survivor could get the hatch quickly haha but that's about it.
-
I was linked to a post saying ranks don't matter at all and we may see larger disparities in ranks. Which is awful for the ends who face each other a 20 against red Ranks.
How is the queue time longer? If we are being matched with more people?

OK. Haha this whole thing is confusing. If the killer just wanted to de-rank efficiently, he could have stood in a corner and let the survivors finish the game and leave. His actions don't make any sense to me.
Egc was not active. He was blocking the doorway with me in it before the last Gen popped. Sorry it was a little confusing. Was just so frustrating haha. Yeah his logic and reasoning makes no sense, it's the few games like this that make me put my controller down and say maybe we don't play this game today lol.

If they block you BEFORE the endgame starts, that's an offense.
If they block you AFTER the endgame starts, that's not.
It was before the last Gen popped. And is this 'policy' or your personal thoughts?

I think OP was referring to a situation like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KBx_8Ie9Bo
Basically, Otz bodyblocked the door handle that was 99'd and waited till he could down the Survivor with Ghostface. This kind of situation is super niche though, so really not only is it a problem, but its super big brain. The way your Wraith did it though, not just stupid- he got no BP or pips from that playstyle- but he blocked one, not both doors. If you couldnt open the second door, then at that point youre both stalling.
EDIT: Skip to 10:45 to see what im talking about.
Ahhh no. Way off base haha. But thank you for trying. It's hard to explain if you don't know the room. The room has a hole in the ceiling survivors can drop onto and a doorway to leave that room that leads into the rest of the building. The killer stayed blocking this room. Hope that somewhat clarifies.
-
@Orion said:
Report him for what, exactly?
I think those "Thank you for your report, action has been taken" automatic messages are worse than not getting anything because it costs nothing to send those messages. They can be fully automated, not even tied to a mod actually handling a report. I'd rather just see the game ban on their profile.
He took the game hostage. Sorry it is a little confusing. I assume you know which room I speak of in the building, hole in the ceiling with a locker in it and the only way out of that room is a single doorway. I ran upstairs and they were working on that gen so I left via hole in ground to go find another Gen and was trapped in that room for a bit before they finished it. When another survivor jumped down and was trapped with me. One of the others ran and got a door opened and he blocked that room the entire time. I can some what barely understand them doing this during egc but if they are going to body block and take people hostage then why play? Again this is a rare circumstance but one that is very frustrating when done.

What rank killer do you play and what rank survivor do you play? I’m high ranks, a Key will make a hell of a lot more difference than a Mori will.
I'm almost into the red killer rank and I'm a red survivor rank. People coming in so hostile into some of these posts. I didn't say I've never been demolished by people with keys, I just don't see that as often as I do Mori's. Especially now for some reason.
-
@Speshul_Kitten said:
“I play 50/50 here” also, “I don’t mind keys”
-“From someone who plays both sides.”
Am I not entitled to an opinion? I play both sides. I don’t see keys as much as I do mori’s. And when I do see keys I sometimes end up sacrificing that survivor so it doesn’t matter. But hey great input, thank you for stopping bye lmao.

Survivor main here (BTW, "main" means you play a side/character more; you can't be a "50/50 main", that's nonsense). I love most of the Mori animations. Some could be improved (looking at you, Trapper), but they're always a treat.
I’m not gonna spell out 50/50 survivor killer player here. But thanks for clearing that up. Don’t wanna confuse people.

You're fine, I respect your opinion!
I don't mind getting destroyed in a few minutes, but it's when it happens often is when I just don't want to play survivor anymore. Mori are so common that either they need to be more rare or rework them to be more fair! 😅
Yes. The frequency or fairness sounds like a good adjustment to me.
-
@OniWantsYourMacaroni said:
Also a 50/50 here.
While they work way less than moris do,keys still need some change as well
Regarding Moris,i absolutely hate those offerings.I wait like more or less 10 minutes to find a game as a survivor and i would really want to quit when i see that killer offering that doesn't flip.
Almost all killers that use moris are the type of player that tunnels you right of the hook to mori you and end up with barely any points.
Those type of players are mostly really bad too and one can see how moris heavily carry their game.Super frustrating
I easily have like 800 or 900 Moris on my killers but i almost never use them (Only on death hook) because the games are super boring with them and you get almost no points as well
Yes! The queue time and getting Mori'd right away is the worst.

it only took them 4 years to come up with this idea to do something about matchmaking.
I mean they have constantly been changing how their system works to try and figure out the best way possible. So it isn’t as if they have done nothing these past four years
-
Eyyyyyy they acknowledged the issue with testing new systems and an invisible rank. That is promising.
-
Looking at the tome, I can't remember exact count but I think the survivors had almost double the killer amount for Rift challenges. That's not gonna help more people into playing killer :/
-
Yeah no, it's still kind of bad actually getting to sit down and play. It seems slightly faster for survivor lobbies but not by much. Please. Fix.
-
Well with this last update I think lobbies are going quicker, can't say I was completely paying attention but I think I only had to wait 5 minutes for lobbies. Not that 5 second killer queue, but an improvement.
-
@xllxENIGMAxllx said:
Three reasons for that.
- Too many survivors for killers at red ranks which cause queues to be longer.
- Killers that stopped due to ruin nerf incoming will get worse once it will be live.
- Killers get more nerfs than survivors ( Nurse , spirit , ruin , Incoming Hillbilly nerf ) Survivors nerf are ( Balanced Landing which isn't really nerfed but balanced , Insta-heal are still strong purple one is stronger and red one skilled based ,)
Ruin nerf will increase the already long queues the kill rate will drop. Survivors saying ez will get what they want but will get bored once they will get insane queues.
Yeah, you aren't wrong. That Red Rank life.

I've been playing killer for about two years now and can say we are in better shape than ever. The change to ruin is not the end of the world. It changes how it is effective.
I remember when the huge nerf to healing happened over a year ago. Killers said survivors would just need to adjust how they play, and they did; they started hitting gens without healing creating a wailing cry about the gen rush.
Now killers are upset about ruin changes, but they need to listen to their own advice and change how they play. The new ruin can work well if you are willing to protect gens instead of zero in on one survivor and the hook. Gens are the way we wear them down.
Over a year ago I had a killer give me the advice to stop focusing on the hooks and focus on keeping them guessing and kick them off gens. My success after that was tenfold. New Ruin supports just that, keep them off the gens.
Yeeeessssss. To all of this. Some killers think it's the end of the world. But that's how the game goes. Something changes and the players adjust until they find their rhythm. It will be fine haha. Can't adjust to that lobby wait time though, no thank you.

alot of these posts about how killers are such babys over the ruin nerf.. it makes me sad becuase it shows how little the survivors actualy pay attention.
im pretty sure what has most killers pissed is the fact it was a wombo combo
ruin nerf + the blatant way the patch notes showed MASSIVE survivor bias
that massive slap is what pissed off the killers
that blatant ignorance on the devs part is what is causing the insane que time increase as killers are done with the bull shiftery
im pretty sure if the patch notes had been worded far better the issue wouldnt have been as bad
im sure there woulda been some moaning and groaning as both sides are wont to do when buffs/nerfs come out for 1 side or the other
but over all that wording of the patch notes showing clear and extremly heavy survivor sided bias.. thats what broke the dam and drove so many killers away not ruin change not doc nerf.. it was both of those plus that it was too much at once specially that patch notes wording and im sorry innocent survivors are paying for it but it is what it is
the people that cant see this issue... idk what to say its soo clear what the real issue is and yet ur saying the issue is ruin or doc but completly ignoring the wording of the patch notes the TRUE reason
TL:DR: ruin and doc isnt why killers are leaving and thus making the queue times longer its the blatant survivor sided bias spewed forth in the patch notes that broke the killers backs
Also I didn't know they had some patch notes for it already. I'm gonna have to give that a look through. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Yeah it's true. This queue time was happening before the ruin change was announced. I'm sure it has affected it some but to say that is the sole reason is wrong. Also your wording bull shiftery gave me a laugh, thanks haha.

This is what happens when the developers cater to the survivors, whilst not fixing a broken matchmaking system. It is natural for people to not want to play killer when they're essentially just tools to facilitate survivor fun.
I don't think they are completely leaving killers in the dust. Certain killers have been changed but I don't think they have been overall nerfs. Just gotta wait for people to get used to the changes. If they did this "nerf" to survivors I don't think it would affect people playing survivors, as in they would quit. But who knows.
-
@StardustSpeedway said:
Whatever the true issue is, it should be top priority for BHVR. It's driving new players away from playing this game and it's causing current players to go play something else.
I agree. This could be what kills the game. People aren't gonna play if they have to wait 10 minutes to just get a match. They are constantly adding more cosmetics etc and I wish they would focus more so on the bugs. I know artists aren't coders and debuggers and what not but yeah. It can be frustrating.

No ruin, no killers. some killers are giving up after that Ship that BHVR DEVS are doing
All the fuss over ruin. I personally think it isn't necessary. The perk is still there it has just changed. This will help everyone grow as killers who use this as a clutch perk.

I played a lot of survivor with my wife this week, unfortunately. I saw a huge amount of afk killers. Roughly 1 in 5 matches was afk.
Killer queue taking 20 minutes? Is that what you are saying? What console are you on? I press ready up as killer and bam a lobby everytime.

Legit, I like to think I'm a main Nea, but yesterday after waiting 10mins on queue, for a match that didn't even began due to someone crashing or whatever, followed by another 5min queue, which also didn't make it through, yeah.
I swapped to killer and got a 5s queue. lol
I haven't been playing SWF as much now because queue times make it boring.
Ugghhh yes. This is the common experience I face just solo survivor. It's painful. There are times where I am set on playing survivor because I care less than when playing killer and then I can't and it's like great guess I have to play killer.

They used to. The issue was that using the average rank of SWF, along with lax DC penalities, and the old rank reset made it super easy for high rank survivors to smurf. Trolling and harassing new killer players was frequent.

An A.I would be horrible. I mean Friday the 13 devs couldn’t manage to program an A.I killer. What do you expect from BHV? But regardless, it would be boring as hell after a few days and nobody would play anymore.
A.I. Isn't even on the table. That would indeed kill the game. So silly to think about.

The rank changes affect both killer and survivor, so it should also make it easier for killers to get into lower ranks and stay there balancing it out.
I know that :P I believe though that killer pips compared to survivor pips were one more in difficulty for the red rank areas. I might be wrong but yeah, hope that makes sense.

ya. you used to be able to switch between killer and survivor right in the lobby. now you have to exit out into the main menu to do so. The devs stated this was due to a security threat and other issues this was causing. I don't know all the details , pretty sure only they are privy to all the information as this is pretty much all they told us.
Yeah I remember the switching thing as I used that constantly and was sad to see that go I just didn’t know why. Crazy. I hope that can get fixed eventually.
-
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve seen this and they made excellent points.
-
@hinoutoumei said:
That hasn't been a thing for a while. I'm kind of guessing here, but i'm assuming it was causing security issues like what happened when they had the ability to switch roles in the lobby. Also, secondarily, people would constantly just lobby hop or outright rage quit/grief matches as soon as they found out they were a higher rank than everyone in the lobby.
Interesting I didn’t know there was a security thing in the past with matchmaking.
-
Also when did rank visibility in lobbies go away? As a red rank I would like the option of leaving lobbies with rank 19's. That is also something that's been popping up a lot recently.
-
@hinoutoumei said:

Exactly, this causes some really bad "features":
Now the rank of the "searched" killer for a SWF is (theoretically) equal to the highest rank within the SWF. I dont know how much Dwights and Megs with Rank 17-19 i´ve seen the last few weeks, crawling round the mapborder, cause they were playing as SWF.
- Causes lower survivors for low rank killers, some friends who barely play killer (rank 15-20) have waited about 30-45 minutes for a match before quitting.
- I do not think, it´s the most fun experience to run into red rank kilers, when u r ranked somewhere between 15 and 20.
(2) Also because of the ruin changes. Of course i can play without ruin, sometimes i get a pip, if not someone DC´s cause he was seen first, downed first, didnt like the killer he ´s playing against, or other bs reasons. Or kills himself at first hook. Even with 3 kills i got most times black pips, sometimes cause of genspeed, most times cause of DC´s.
The point is, even a monkey with 2 braincells can hit normal skill checks, so gens usually are flying. The output is, i have to play more focused and sweatier than using ruin. Same bs as with the old nurse: i had the time to ######### around and do bs, eg. to chase a survivor around a tree, running 7-8 rounds to close up. Dont get me wrong, i actually still get my 4k´s with nurse, but i play more focused and dont ######### around. Both because i dont have the time for being funny or foolish.
Oh yeah the red rank match ups versus Grey ranks are always horrible either way it is split. It's a one way game at that point. As for the ruin changes, I'm excited and have done just fine not having ruin in my build on multiple characters. Can't wait to see what other builds people might use.

It seems that they disabled rank requirement for matchmaking and everyone plays against everyone now and there is still not enough killers playing.
I mean Rank reset was pretty recently so I feel like it's pure chaos for a few weeks.
