"Overperforming"

I have a few questions about this statement, hopefully we'd get some word so we can also provide insight into the problem and offer up additional feedback to help with the changes the devs might be considering.

Before considering any changes, are the devs looking into WHY she's overperforming?

Is it possible to ignore kill ratios based on rank and instead look at average playtime of players and find the kill ratios based on various time ranges? I personally feel like rank isn't a good measure of player skill and can lead to skewed kill ratios or at the very least flawed data. Playtime isn't a good measure of skill either, but it might be slightly more accurate than basing them solely off rank.

I look forward to a new ranking system that can measure the skill of a player.

The fun of Spirit comes from the trope she's based on. A spooky spirit that is in one position one moment and then right in front of you within an instant. It leads to some very fun moments where you know you made the survivor poop their pants a little bit. Will this aspect be able to remain while considering possible changes to her in the future?

Compared to the other killers by how much is Spirit overperforming and how is that number calculated?

I'm trying to understand how things are looked at by the devs in order to better construct feedback videos in the future.

We as players often feel like we're not being listened to, but maybe we can create and organize our thoughts in a way that might actually be acknowledged in the future.

  • Consider this. A survivor DCs at the start of the match when they find out its a Spirit. The stats filter out DCs or so we've been told. But because of the 3v1 the Spirit is able to kill the remaining three easily. Are those three kills still counted or is the whole match thrown out?

This is a good point also.

In the case of a DC maybe the whole match should be thrown out.

  • I honestly do not think they go and filter EVERY spirit match played..and as stated above..if the whole match isn't removed a dc being removed will not at all avoid a skewing of the stats..if I'm honest..I'm still convinced her DC rate is exactly why they are changing her..they bow to survivor mains but killers are left footing the bill..

  • There is also the factor of survivors just giving up and instead playing to meme, or purposely dying on hook. I know at least 1 person that will stop trying if it's a Spirit, but he doesn't DC he just starts to meme or do other silly things because he stopped caring about the game. This would be IMPOSSIBLE for the devs to filter out and I'm willing to bet this happens more often than it should because a lot of survivors are spiteful.

Prayer Beads is also another factor. Like if the devs could filter out all games where Prayer Beads were used I feel like she wouldn't be "over performing", indicating an issue with that add-on and not the killer herself.

I just hope whatever they change they don't listen to the people basically asking for a neon sign above her head that says "I AM PHASE WALKING" because that defeats the entire purpose of her power, to be confusing and force mistakes. We need a more intuitive solution, one that keeps this aspect of her power intact while improving the experience for survivors.

  • @thesuicidefox

I just think survivor needs something new, something related to skill that goes beyond going to a gen and doing skillchecks or running the usual routes. There needs to be more to it.

  • Bhvr: the Spirit is overperforming Considerably, she will be nerfed Tremendously. /s

Transparency goes a long way. A lot of these discussions feel like echo chambers. Everybody already has their minds made up about how they feel about the spirit one way or another. I pray the devs keep a level head, and make necceasry changes without gutting her power.

You mean to tell me a killer is killing survivors at a good rate?

    GET THE NERF HAMMER OUT

like seriously nurse got nerfed not into oblivion but alot harder than she deserved due to her skill cap, and now survivors want the only other killer capable of consistently dealing with an optimal swf nerfed? Seriously?

Agree. The echo chamber is real. This is why I can seriously respect TrueTalent, because regardless of what you think of him he is at least brave enough to go against the echo. He forms his own opinions independent of others.

How about we fix swf instead of making killers balanced for just them? It's just more bandaid fixes for problems.

Which has been here longer? The majority usually wins as well, and survivors are more played. As they always say "how can you nerf me playing with my friends". And its not even fully about swfs, optimal survivors in general are untouchable unless they mess up massively against an m1 killer.

  • I think the concept of Overperforming is ludicrous, and that they should instead, shift their mindset to those who actually are mediocre/underperform.

  • I think you misunderstood the word "overperforming" here. Let me explain my view on spirit (I recently started to main her): she is piss easy to master. And it's piss easy to stomp survivors with her. Compared to nurse (I WAS a nurse main till the nerf..) it's actually very chill, I drop survivors left and right and don't have to sweat at all. Low effort but HUGE reward. On Nurse, I had to sweat my ass off, constantly do right reads, survivors could react and bluff, LoS fakes, enough time for dead hard, difficult buildings, deal with buggy blinks etc...

While on Nurse you have to put several hundreds of hours into her to be extremely deadly against swf (and even then some swf groups can stomp you no matter what) as spirit you just need like 10ish hours to stomp every team. That's why she's overperforming, everyone can destroy teams without having much skill. The only thing you need is average - decent headphones.

  • Btw, you said "very fun movements" but you don't know how much fun this is on survivor side since you said yourself that you never really played survivor.

From survivors perspective (with some competition in your blood aka someone who enjoys winning) it's not a fun moment. Especially when you go against the 10th spirit in a row with some prayer beads imbetween. On red ranks. Where 90% of the spirits have ears and decent headphones.

Don't worry, it's just going to be "slightly" like on Nurse lol

  • First off; nerfing Spirit won't take away any of her "spooky theme." Don't know why that's even a concern.

Second; while it probably is possible to cut out stats of different brackets I don't know what the point is. She's overperforming overall, you can cut off the low play time players because inexperience isn't an accurate representation of killer strength, and you'll probably raise her kill rate. You can cut off the high skill players, but then you're basically saying a killer is balanced because only people who DON'T know what they're doing don't overperform, if that's even the case. Point is everyone has to play this game against people of varying skill levels, and all of it should be taken into account for balance, not just one extreme or the other.

Third, considering the stats they did a while back, they probably do consider games with a DC in their data. You can argue how you like for whether it should or shouldn't, but if a killer is so anti-fun that players refuse to play with it then something's gonna have to happen. You punish DCs harder and people will just give up on hook or feed.

  • You guys act like the devs really don't think of anything, huh

I am extremely confident they are looking into why she's overperforming (because she is, anyone who says otherwise just plainly is wrong).

Recently, I remember someone on the dev team saying that nurse didn't have high sacrifice percentages, because while she is really one of the best killers, she comes at a cost - she's REALLY hard to get the hang of. Spirit on the other hand had high sacrifice percentages because she is very strong, but doesn't come at a high difficulty.

She is just too easy to be able to get high kills with her. She needs some changes so that her power, which is actually a good idea and seems like the kind of thing I'd have fun mastering, actually has a skill level that matches it.

They said they can filter out dc's but I don't know if that was the case in the those stats
