How can killer know for sure that it isn't just swf sandbagging each other fun? Should I check profiles while in lobby before every match to see if they are swf or not? How can killer know for sure if they are pointing out the locker because that person didn't do anything else except hide and they want him gone from the game? Why the killer is always the bad guy?
The killer is always the bad guy because you're not really a true player in most peoples eyes. You're just an obstacle to the real players, and thus should always behave in a fashion that doesn't inconvenience them TOO much.
Yes, that sounds like hyperbole, but when you actually listen to people, this is truly how they think.
-
I won't go out of my way to "punish" a survivor that I feel was being awful, but if the choice comes down to killing them or someone else, I'll pick them.
A while back I gave the hatch to someone because a Dwight ran up and unhooked her right in my face while we were mid-chase. So I killed him and gave her the hatch, because how are you gonna do a teammate like that? π₯
-
I get a ton of friendly messages as killer...
...if all 4 survivors get out
(Even then I'm likely to just get yelled at, though)
Usually I try to pay a compliment or something to the survivors - mostly because it seems to help my own mood to be the "better person" - but they don't even seem to like that.
When I play survivor, I never get any messages period.
-
In all seriousness, though, this sounds like another one of those situations where survivors just expect the killer to surrender.
Here's a situation that comes up occasionally:
Exit gates are open. Killer hooks someone. BBQ (or whatever aura reading) shows that the 1-3 remaining survivors are at the exit gate.
What's the play here? Be honest, what is the best - or only - play for the killer in this situation?

It's supremely lame when killers camp the hook to guarantee one sacrifice. Basically solidifying their status as a failure and desperation that they 'have to get someone!'
It's especially eye-ball rolling when you've pretty much carried the match with repairs and rescues, and get caught with your first hook, and the killer gets comfy and sets up camp. Then here comes the cherry on the cake: the other remaining survivors don't even entertain the idea of going for a save: nope, they're running through the exit gates or waiting there to teabag the killer.
All good fun.
Yeah, I hate it when killers do crazy things. Securing kills, for example. It's insane!
Survivors deserve to survive, it's right there in their name!

Hard to take you seriously when you have your gamma cranked up to max, which essentially is "legal" cheating in a game designed to be dark.
Oh, ok.
Let me know when survivors restrict their communicating to the "design" of the game, too.

I wish everyone would just 'be the change'. This game has gotten hard to play - not because the of game, because of the people and their behavior towards others.

The sequel!
I wonder what these guys were up to, SWFing with that 19.
Must have just been a mistake. π

I'm confused. How did you camp Bill if you left him on the ground while they did their little shenanigans and then he immediately hook suicided?
Did he suicide on first hook?
Was this his second hook and you camped him through his first hook and downed him when he got off?
I feel like we're missing some deets.
Also, why is your game always super funky colored?
Of course it's you rushing to the defense of the survivors.
"But no, you MUST have done bad things, you're the killer!" π€£

Easier, because there are fewer places.
I don't care how "out of sight" the hiding spots are. If there are 5 in total, given that only 5 totems spawn, then survivors know where 100% of the totems are. If there are 10, they know where 50% are. Is that clearer?
That's only if you reduce the number of spawn locations to a number that's too low to create obfuscation in the first place.
There's going to be a critical mass of spawn locations required to make them reasonably "hidden". I'm not sure what that number is. (For x totems, 2x spawn points, 3x etc.) The exact number is mostly outside the scope of this concept, though.
Once you've reached that critical mass, adding spawn points to the list that are in places where the survivor primary objective already is only makes the search that much easier, on average.

All the mindgames where you just stand still and a survivor runs into you.
Boy that's entertaining.

Amazing right but killer is so easy mode to win.
Killers can hit survivors with a chainsaw in the back 5 times and they can still get up and run just fine, survivor is so easy mode to win.

I don't think you read it correctly. If it's what I'm thinking of, it was Peanits who (rightly) said that the more areas you exclude, the easier it gets.
I'm not sure that makes sense in this context, though.
You're a kid and I'm trying to hide your PS4 controller from you. There are several places I can put it. One of those places is under the TV next to the PS4. A place you're going to look at anyway, perhaps even before you think to look for the controller.
Is your search for the controller made easier or harder if I exclude that place from the list of spots I might hide it?
-
I mean, 4-man groups already do this just by bringing a smurf with them. So yeah, nothing new.
-
Monstrous Shrine:
While in the basement, gain the Undetectable status as long as a survivor is hooked within the basement.
π

Yep, just one of those funny things.
I can pick you up off a gen, drop you on the ground, and you have 4 minutes to live.
Just gameplay mechanics!

Not sure why people would say, "No one will work with the director"
The incident happened in 1988. He went on to make several more movies - including the Jeeper Creepers series - long after that.
Not saying that people should work with him, just that clearly people would.

People get more than 3000 points when they have the opportunity to. Against an Insidious camping Leatherface, the opportunities to get bloodpoints are extremely limited. Cooperation, altruism and interaction with the killer are the best way for survivors to get points in this game and your playstyle prevented all three of those.
Yes, bad players get easily boosted to red ranks. You said it, not me. :)
The thing is, survivors can easily get 10,000+ BP even if the killer does literally nothing. Just doing gens and escaping.
People just too stubborn to do that sometimes!
-
But...why?
Aside from, "Haha, he died. Wait, now I'm dead too." trolling and memes, I don't see what this would add to the game.
Just suicide on the hook if you want to grief your team.

Probably because you slugged them and let them die on the ground.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/159800/what-was-this-lol
They likely didn't get much of any points because you didn't let them do altruistic things like unhooking, or boldness from chases.
Nope, it'd be way more points than that if I were slugging.

"I lost" = "Game is unplayable"

Trapper is super hit or miss for me.
Either people just walk into all my traps and I get a 4k without even chasing anyone, or I feel like a pure M1 killer who wasted a ton of time setting up, so I retreat into a 3-gen and hope for the best.
-
I've bought a few things. Mostly the meta survivor perks so I don't have to go leveling them all for no reason.
I bought Nurses' Calling back when I was really new. I think that's the only killer perk I ever bought, since I'm just going to level them all anyway. (Even if I don't really want some of those nasty perks in my bloodweb...)

"A game is as conpetitive as a player can make it"
Well there you go then. It' EXACTLY as you said in your own words. If you want to treat it and play it competitively you do that, if you want to play casually and not care about surviving/kills/rank then its casual for you, you cant just give it a blanket statement like that to cover every player in the playerbase
This is actually true of any game, too. People can choose to be competitive and people can choose to play casually.
Want to play custom SC2 games with friends where you don't attack for 20 minutes? Sure, totally fine. Want to only play the CPU or campaign modes? Totally cool.
Want to only play SF5 but don't want to learn frame data or combos or anything else and just want to throw fireballs because it looks cool? Completely acceptable in the game design and you'll be ranked low enough to fight other casual players and maybe even have a lot of fun.
This could all be true in DbD as well, but the issue DbD has is a lack of functioning matchmaking. So people who want to be casual and people who want to be competitive end up in the same matches. Maybe the new system will fix this, who knows.
-
I've inadvertently done something like this before.
Had that tome challenge to chase people for 90 seconds with Distressing on, so I just goofed off for the first half of the game...ahem, "chasing" people. There was one Claudette in particular that probably thought she was some looping god because I seemed unable to catch her.
Eventually they stopped doing gens and all ran over to click flashlights and teabag at the "baby killer" who clearly was no threat to them. Then they all started getting smacked. The Claudette was probably especially confused when she retreated back to the same loop from before and was immediately downed. π€£
Post-game chat was conspicuously silent.

I'll see your weird point results and raise you a killer story:
Once I got a 4k and only had about 3,000(?) points. Explain that, scientists. π

One of the biggest change was the fact that I started to get games as killer where 4 gens get done in 3 minutes, no matter how much I try. This game is less about skill, and more about how stupid the opponent is.
The game gets faster and faster.
"More about how stupid the opponent is"
There's definitely a little truth to this, but I doubt you're playing at the level where this is the only thing left to blame.

People always like to downplay the meaning of ranks in games. It's the same in fighting games, where people will tell you that Master means nothing in SF5 and "everyone gets it" even though it's statistically like 0.0005% of all players.
Rank 1 isn't exactly eSports pro level or something, but you definitely have to show a reasonable level of consistency to get there. This idea that you just close your eyes and are rank 1 is absurd.

Those arent necessarily swf tho. Ive seen that happen playing survivor and i run solo. Even if we assume the other 3 survivors are swf then the game still should match another low rank survivor for them so its at least somewhat even
If it's a 3-man SWF, then the matchmaking indeed typically gives me an equal rank person as the 4th. Similarly, if there's no SWF at all, I'll get an entire survivor group of roughly equal rank.
At least in my experience, the matchmaking actually does work reasonably well except with SWF groups containing extremely disparate ranks. (Or at really, really off-hours)
(For reference, I'm east cost US)

@Deadman316 said:
It's the deranking killers that's screwing up the matchmaking for everyone. I'm a green rank survivor and I've gone up against prestiged killers and strong killers, both with learned perks and rare add-ons, and majority of them are no higher than rank 15. I'm not sure if the algorithm the game uses sees it as "well since they're good, we'll match all lower ranks with more skilled survivors, or if the devs changed something to make it a mixed bag of matchmaking. Either way, it's not good or fair to anyone just starting out with the game.
It's SWF that ruins the matchmaking generally, but yeah.
When I'm super low rank, every game is "Three red ranks and a level 20". The only time I get a normal spread of survivors is when they're not grouped.
-
Grabs are super weird.
Posted a thread yesterday about a time when I grabbed someone mid-hook rescue and they ended up on my shoulder but the unhook also finished. π
-
The only time survivors aren't salty is when the killer loses.
Actually, even then, they complain. (Had game last night against a SWF with red ranks in it. Two died, two got out. After game one of the red ranks that got out said they were still pissed because - and I quote - "Look at your rank. Now look at mine." π)
I guess same holds true for killers, though.

@Poweas said:
Hm, ranks don't mean everything. Some rank 20's have a valid opinion, and for that to be invalidated just because of their ranks is unfair. Me and @BigBrainMegMain briefly talked about it on our walls.
Plus, my ranks are 5 (survivor) and 6 (killer) right now (I think) due to me having PC issues, despite them normally being 1 for both sides, that doesn't make my opinion less valid because I can't play the game (still waiting on the duster to dust it out). Plus, with how easy it is to rank up nowadays, you'll always get people giving wrong answers who are at rank 1, and those who could give right ones at rank 10 would be considered invalid, because of their rank?
I only see it as a way for people to mock each other more, which is not what the forums need. It's a good idea, but people would definitely use it to mock others. @Bovinity is a new(ish) player, yet they have some of the best ideas I've heard since joining the forums. I believe they're around rank 10 (sorry if I'm wrong), but that doesn't make them wrong, but I can see people certainly mocking them for it if their rank was shown.
It's a good idea at heart, but it'd only create toxicity imo.
Aw, mighty kind of ya.
I'm actually rank 16 ATM! π
-
I dunno, I have a hard time with Spirit. Not sure if it's my sound setup that's not up to par, but I just can't hear directional sounds well in DbD.
Other games it's fine. Testing is fine. Directional sound video demos are fine. But in DbD I hear someone groaning to the right and I look around and they're running off straight in front of me or some random direction or something.
-
What else do you want survivors to do? Not do their objective?
This isn't a problem with the game, it's just the situation you found yourself in against smart players. Expecting them to not do this is no different than when survivors expect killers to pretend previously hooked survivors don't exist.
-
It's me, baby.
