  • Oh.

I thought you meant that you'd be put in a queue and would randomly be put in as a Survivor or Killer based on greatest need in the queue. (But not random everything) Maybe with a small BP boost like some other games do. That'd be neat.

But your thing is ok, too. ;)

Aw man, I just had a similar experience last night.

Was a 4-man SWF, one of them had a Twitch address in his title. (Wasn't streaming, though) They were being obnoxious as hell, ran four flashlights, clicked and teabagged at every opportunity, but the streamer guy was the worst of all.

Very end of the game they're running for the exits and they all pause to get some more BM in and I hit the streamer. He was juuuuust an inch too far from the exit to crawl there in time and I hooked him for 3rd time.

Dude just lost his mind in post-game chat. "I let you get that kill! You're trash! You were lagging the whole game! I just felt bad for you! I gave you a pity kill!" and on and on. 🤣

  • That poor Bubba.

You're supposed to politely go hook yourself so he doesn't have to exert himself running around like that! You know Bubbas prefer to stand around.

    So toxic!

But all the killer has to do is go around and in most cases you don't get enough distance to get to another loop.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1331005#Comment_1331005

LOL what? Killer sided? Sorry but no. Both sides should have equal and fair opportunities.

All we need are semi-safe pallets with mind games. We don't need any of this fancy nonsense that hasn't been tested. Every loop should have LOS blockers with some holes so that you can trick each other, a short side that is unsafe, and a long side that is semi-safe as it assumes you win the mind game but have to COMMIT to an option to do it.

That sounds good on paper, but it seems like you're just making every area equally safe. So it no longer really matters if a survivor pays attention to the area they're in, or where a survivor chooses to run or what area they got caught in, they're always right next to a strong pallet and decent loop.

There ought not be too many unsafe areas, but some are essential just from the perspective of gameplay design. And that's not even touching the fact that making areas safer would be a direct nerf to the other side.

  • When I get hit but know it won't matter because all my perks are still up.

Make the slightest misstep when discussing them and you're instantly a "-ist" of some kind.

Consider that if everyone wants to farm, nobody in that match is going to report it. Mandy and I are saying the same thing, and I also personally don't like farming matches. I'd rather play the game properly.

I think the distinction is important, though.

It's one thing if it's considered to be acceptable behavior across the board as long as people aren't being forced somehow.

If the behavior is against the rules and could land you in trouble but the only protection is hoping someone doesn't report you, that's a very different reality.

  • Was funny as hell seeing this (or something similar?) run on Show's stream last night.

It looks absolutely fun as hell in a strong players hands. It's also probably a lot more fun when you have an observer watching survivors constantly regressing their own gens.

Because you are rank 16 and matchmaking doesn't cap what ranks a rank 16 can be matched with.

Yeah, people have said that, so I moved up in rank and tested that for a couple days, too.

Same thing happens at 15 and 14.

Maybe it's my region, maybe it's just a specific time, but it's definitely a phenomenon that's predictable and observable.

Did I say it does not happen? No? Why are you mentioning it then?

Sure it happens, but more often than not the Matchmaking is working. But nobody will open a Thread with "THis Matchmaking is fine" with Screenshots where MM clearly works.

And it does not really have anything to do with SWF, at least not from my observations. I also had games where my SWF-Mate and myself (both Rank 1) and another SWF (both Rank 16) were up against a Rank 10 Killer. This does not work out by any means, yet it happened.

From what I have read on the Forum, PS4 has the most of "strange Matchmakings", I can only assume but most likely this is due to the changed Rank Reset combined with the SWF-Matchmaking changes. Because it is most of the time low Rank Killers vs high Rank SWFs - both groups which usually have long queue times. But cannot prove it, so yeah, just a guess.

But when it comes to SWF... Players should stop to use it as excuse why they lost. Most Killers in Red Ranks are not good enough for Red Ranks, but think they deserve to be there.

You quoted me talking about an event and said, "That's not how it works". If that's not you saying that the event in question doesn't happen, then we're speaking different - but suspiciously similar - languages.

In any case, it definitely is affected by SWF groups with wide ranges of rank. I don't just get random solo rank 1's in my games, I get groups of 2-4 that have red ranks and a rank 20, for example.

It's not a fluke or some rare thing, either. It'll be every game, every time, all evening. It's also not due to long queues - at least not on my end - because my killer queues in the evening are instant. (It's possible that the survivor queues were too long, though) I've also tested it by throwing my rank 20 survivor self into a lobby with my higher ranked friends, and sure enough we get really weird results.

Sometimes it's not a big deal in the end because it's just a 2-man so I get, "2, 19, 14, 15" which isn't really a game killer by any means. Other times it's obviously an organized group that's just bum-hunting. But it's definitely a thing that happens and is observable and predictable.

I play solo, and I'm not particularly good at the game. But I've made it to Rank 3. I'm not particularly good at Killer, either, and made it to Rank 4. Rank isn't really an indicator of skill, but time played. If you play enough, you will rank up. It's inevitable, and has little to do with SWF.

I don't know if I'd say it's necessarily inevitable. Especially from rank 4 on, you have to show at least SOME level of consistency in your play to move up in rank.

It doesn't mean you're MLG Pro or anything, but there's definitely some threshold there.

This is a stupid idea honestly. Might as well lock killers movement after hooking too then I guess.

Well, killers cameras ARE locked during a lot of actions. It's why flashlight blinds during certain animations are easier, and why waiting for a killer to commit to certain actions before moving is effective.

Not really comparable to the entire time you're working on a gen, but it's not like the concept of locking a camera is totally outlandish in the game.

Thats not how Matchmaking works. It takes the highest Rank of the SWF-group.

People keep saying this over and over, no matter how many times I post screenshots of nightly matches where I - at rank 16 - get matches with red rank SWF groups who brought a rank 20 with them.

I mean, at some point people have to accept that this either isn't actually how it's intended to work, or it's not working as intended. Claiming it doesn't happen is clearly wrong.

Both games were 4 mans. I played the same way in both games, they were back to back games in fact. 1 team did gens very efficiently, they split up and had gens done before I could pop my tier 3 twice. The other team did not do gens efficiently, they stayed grouped up and allowed me to be very effective with t3.

Its not swf, its the strategies they use and gen speeds. Swf doesnt need to be nerfed, gen speeds directly shouldnt be nerfed, the game needs secondary objectives.

The team I beat I was always going to beat because they played poorly. The team i lost to I had 0 chance to beat unless I basement camped AND they made the mistake of being overly altruistic. And there in lies the problem, to beat these teams you can only do so if they make mistakes.

Its not ranks, its not swf, its nothing being in between the survivors and doing gens except 1 killer who cant be in 4 places at once. Thats it.

Meanwhile, the top group is getting matched with a rank 16 killer in half their games because they're bringing that 15 along with them.

    Darn matchmaking.

I don't disagree. Most people are bad at chases and in higher ranks NOED isn't used all that much. I worry more about green ranks and the newbies it hurts. I don't think it's a good perk in most situations.

Honestly, given the state of matchmaking and the effect SWF has on it, the new player experience can already be absolutely awful for killers.

Hard to fault them for using something they think might even the playing field a bit because you think it'll "hurt newbies".

I don't use NOED for two reasons. It would rarely proc for me and because it's a crutch perk that rewards killers for not playing well. That's all it does. You can't expect survivors to do 5 gens and all the bones within the time it takes for one person to die on hook. There's just not the time for it. Survivor takes 2 minutes to die on hook. Takes 80 seconds if everyone does a gen and it takes 14 seconds per totem plus the time to find all the totems. No good killer uses NOED because NOED will only help killers who aren't playing well.

This guy posting the same NOED complaints everywhere he goes.

And losing 3 gens during the first chase is not the survivors fault for doing their objective that the game spawned them right next to.

I fully agree. I don't think NOED is all that good when it's just a regular game. I just see it as a problem because it rewards camping and I'm sure campers don't care about their blood points or pips. Just generally ruining peoples time

NOED doesn't reward camping, the person is already on the hook. NOED is doing nothing to them. Greedy survivors reward camping.

Just leave. Just walk out the door. It's right there, just walk out. Go. It's not hard. Just walk away.

"Losing 5 gens" does not equal "lost"

This is the issue, its the mindset of "well we finished all 5 gens so we won"

No, you dont win till you escape. Its why end game builds exist. NOED + Remember Me + Blood Warden + Rancor.

People need to get out of this mindset. I cant tell you the number of games where i killed the last 2 or 3 survivors after the gens were done WITHOUT noed.

    Yep.

That's the only reason NOED gets so much hate. Because survivors feel like, "WE WON, it's not fair they killed us after we won!

You simply just have to hope that you bump into those who are toxic and actually made the game enjoyable there are a lot of survivors and Killers who do this it's just the vocal minority that tend to call the loudest

I can hope to run into a unicorn, too. 😂

Honestly, I could type up a long list of complaints, but we've all heard them before.

For the love of God people it's not the killer's responsibility to make sure everything is fair and square.

If you mess up and you screw another player over that is your fault not The Killer's and not the person in question you screwed over

Survivors always place the responsibility of giving them a "good game" on the killer.

Was watching Alf's stream earlier. He was killer, got matched against a 4-man SWF that he recognized. They were playing ALL of the stuff. DStrikes, DH, UB, you name it. Even had one player with Object, and Alf was playing Hag!

Long story short, he gets a 3k and lets the last guy get hatch. One guy even disconnected after their DStrike wore off and they got mad I guess. After the game one of them comes into his stream and - I ######### you not - says:

"I wish you had played nicer."

Holy #########, man. Really? You're running the whole damn package, even Object in a 4-man, and you wanted the KILLER to be nicer? ######### hell.

Ive always assumed that playing during peak weekend hours would give you the best chance of meeting the +/- of 6 rule. I would think the presence of the most generous amount of killers and survivors would allow for closer mm'ing results.

I might be a wacko, but i think the sweet spot for killer is on sat + sun during 12pm - 5pm. Mm'ing usually seems good enough and survivors mostly chill types.

Oddly enough, prime time is when matchmaking gets even worse for me. Killer queues are instant, but the matchmaking is consistently red/purple rank SWFs over and over, generally with one super low rank friend with them.

Ive set a new rule for myself, if im down to 1 gen left and ive only gotten 1 or 2 hooks (either because i ######### up and did poorly or because swf gen rush had gens done stupid quick, either way) Im dragging someone into the basement and were having a party. Its part of the game

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/YNKCBBO8N8QC/20200602-000106.jpg

These were really good survivors, they had gens 3 gens done in like 2 minutes. I dragged one in the basement and it became a dog fight. Notice my points, i pipped that game. My point is, ITS PART OF THE GAME. In the current meta its even encouraged. I dont mean 1st hook camping with 5 gens left, thats stupid, but when your backs against the wall its a VIABLE option.

That leads us to bubba. Bubba sucks largely. You know (being youre a r1) that a lot of bubbas face camp and run noed. Idk why its even a suprise to anyone at this point.

Heh, I went back and did an old tome challenge last night. "Hook 2 survivors in the basement in a single trial using the perk Agitation"

So I hopped on Trapper, got in a game, and headed straight for the basement. Barely moved from there all game. Sure enough, someone eventually found their way to the area, got trapped, and got hooked.

From there the game fell apart as every survivor wanted their unhook points, and ultimately became a 3k with the 4th person getting out by the skin of their teeth after also trying their hand at the basement rescues.

Sometimes you win because you played really well, and sometimes you win because your opponent(s) played really poorly. 🤣

  • Mori and Keys are weird to me, because they just seem like a loss for both sides.

Ok, you escaped/mori'ed everyone. The game ended prematurely, you got hardly anything for it, your opponents got hardly anything for it, what the heck was the point?

That was my point. I expect to lose to better players. They have more time in the game and have had time to polish their gameplay. If I can kill one or two of them, I feel like I have made a pretty good effort. It's the same thing when I go against a SWF and only kill one person, but that person also happens to be a rank 1 or 2 player. It just feels better.

They were clearly better players than I, though. The only reason I got anyone was extreme altruism.

Was a 4-man SWF, all of them were Claudettes. What a nightmare.

And this isn't even that bad an example. You'll just get full groups of rank 1's sometimes!

This is the only thing that really needs fixing about SWF.

The 4, 5, and 20 were queued together. The 14 was solo, so of course that match was reasonable. Yes, this queue was about 5 seconds long.

there is no "clear defined criteria" in any of these.

hiding from the killer is also not a reportable offense after all, unless its done for long amounts of time, which again is not clearly defined.

if you encounter a killer who will defend his 3 gen for like a whole hour without ever committing to chases, that would be reportable.

if you encounter a killer who defends his 3 gen and still downs and hooks survivors when he has the opportunity to, thats not.

Again, there's no way to actually determine or enforce that. All you're saying is that killers must surrender a 3-gen or else risk being reported because, "Oh, Meg got in view and kept running away and you didn't chase! That's a ban!"

Also, where is the survivor responsibility in all this? Why is the responsibility to surrender entirely on the killer?

  • @Mister_xD said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1326182#Comment_1326182

as long as you are still aiming to kill them, that progresses the game.

im not saying that dropping a chase or two to defend your gen setup was reportable, i was referring to very excessive cases, such as killers refusing to chase survivors with the sole purpose of not letting them finish gens for very long amounts of time.

But what's the line on that, exactly?

This is why I'm 99% sure that it's not a rule at all, because there's no clear, defined criteria. It's just, "Well, you can defend, but don't DEFEND, know what I mean?"

  • Yeah, that's exactly why.

  • @NinjaDette1 said:

I just had a match like this a few minutes ago they were all Feng mins.

Yeah, my wife only plays solo, and as she got higher rank she got placed with more and more SWF groups.

We can almost always tell it's a SWF group (before even looking) because she'll end up dying on her first hook every time. They'll go apeshit rushing basement hooks for each other, but won't even look at her hook.

  • @Mister_xD said:

any action that increases thelength of the game by a long amount of time without progressing it.

    reportable actions would be:

    • bodyblocking a survivor in a corner for long periodes of time
    • hiding and not doing any generators for long periodes of time (only when every survivor remaining in the trial does it)
    • defending a 3 gen without ever committing a chase, therefore not hooking anyone while also not allowing for the geerators to be progressed for long periodes of time
    • ...

    not reportable actions would be:

    • slugging
    • bodyblocking a survvivor in a corner during the EGC
    • camping
    • defending a 3 gen (unless its excessive as mentioned above)
    • ...

(those are just a few examples, there are more reportablele and non reportable actions ofc)

the difference between these two is, that the above mentioned actions are something one side can do that the other side cant counter, so they are forced to quit the game if nothing happens, while the below mentioned actions all have a set timer to them that ends the action after a while.

Slugging for the 4k as you brought up as an example is not considered "holding the game hostage", due to the bleed out bar a survivor in the dying state has. once that expires they die and hatch becomes available, forcefully progressing the game.

"defending a 3 gen without ever committing a chase, therefore not hooking anyone while also not allowing for the geerators to be progressed for long periodes of time"

I'm still waiting on some confirmation on this. It's one of those things that people say, but it really makes no sense. It basically reads as, "Killer must concede any 3-gen situation."

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

If you have exhaustion while you used the perk, you are not using it too early. You should never have exhaustion on the ground unless you have actually dashed forward first. In which case it would mean you used it too early. This is common knowledge.

As for why the perk isn't working, its due to Latency. Dead Hard (much like how windows were not working) has been bad for a while now. It's become almost a meme perk because of how much it doesn't work. This only got worse when dedicated servers were introduced.

People keep saying this, and yet it's still one of the most-run perks, and every killer plays as if every survivor has it.

    Clearly it's working for someone.
