I think people who dismiss the notion of ‘killer anxiety’ need to realise that the anxiety isn’t coming from a place of “I’m worried about playing killer in case I don’t get my 4K”. It’s coming from a place of “I want to play killer but the thought of being mocked, bullied, abused (the latter two, particularly in endgame chat) is putting me off.”
It’s not just about a fear of playing badly- it’s a fear of playing badly and being picked on for it. We can have a discussion on why certain people are more bothered by this than others BUT invalidating these feelings is not the right thing to do.
End game chat is the crux of a lot of this, but DBD is a game where it’s very easy for players to determine when their opponent is outmatched and make fun of them for it. Again, people will question why someone spamming crouch or emoting bothers another person, but it comes from a feeling of being powerless and rubbish- MMR is massively to blame for this. The casual, after work/school gamer who wants to get a few rounds in as their favourite horror character will be matched with players beyond their skill and far more determined to sweat.
Also not to go full ‘us vs them’ but a killer is four times as more likely to get griefed simply due to the nature of the game. In any one session playing a killer it’s likely you’re going to get grief just for existing. When you put it all together, it’s not hard to see why the thought of playing killer is anxiety inducing for a lot of people.
Pretty much the first paragraph, yeah.
It's a 5-player game each match and it genuinely feels like the other four people just don't want you there. I don't mean like, "Oh, this is my opponent, I'm going to beat them." like in a fighting game or something, but more that they legitimately resent your very presence in the match. Which seems nonsensical because without a killer there's no game, but that's how they act.
-
I rarely feel anything negative playing survivor if only because killers generally just do their job and might even be nice after the halfway point if it looks like they've already won/lost.
Load up killer and the instant survivors feel like they have an advantage it's flashlight clicks and teabags the entire rest of the game, a 4-out and "ggez" in chat. Literally never seen survivors be like, "Yeah, we'll give you one kill" the way killers will often let people out.

No im allowed to be upset when I am purposely TARGETED thats the point if it was his regular playstyle that's fine whatever be a scum but if you. Want revenge over an escape youre pathetic
Oh my god you were TARGETED?!
CALL THE POLICE!!
...seriously, stop ######### crying. Damn survivors could solve any water crisis on earth with their tears every time a killer hits them.

Yeah cause its the vocal minority. Most survivors just suck it up and dont run around complaining 24/7 when they lose a game or two (aka die).
Killers in here are mostly so bad, they never faced the "problems" they complain about themself, instead they saw a video of someone doing some crazy ######### and then come here and want it nerfed just because they WATCHED someone do it...
This man actually just said that survivors suck it up and don't complain.
This man ACTUALLY just said that, in public.

Or they're hoping that the weird, buggy grabs just let them get away untouched when they quickly pop in and out and your M1 tries to grab so you're standing there like a jerk.

Bad logic. Killers aren’t entitled to kills.
Playing better in the early part of the game should result in well played matches. Not hook camping because the killer is bad at chases.
As another poster said, the two health state grab enforces a poor playstyle. And as many killers know, hook trading is still very much possible without a two health state grab. This suggestion does not make rushing hooks safe.
No one said killers were entitled to kills.
But you're the one there saying, "B-b-b-but what if the unhook is never safe?" as if you can't handle the idea of not getting the outcome you want. Like some magical unhook fairy should come down and produce your preferred outcome for you.
No, if the unhook is "never safe" then go do something else. Stop standing there in a bush wringing your hands for who knows how long, being useless to your team, and wondering why the killer isn't doing what you want or why BHVR isn't forcing them to.

I think Freddy is actually pretty close to movies also. You have the Dream World, you have him changing the rules in the dream world, it's honestly a pretty good fit with him too.
Freddy isn't anything like the film depictions, because of course that'd be unfair and he really can't.
No turning people into bugs and squashing them, or coming out of a TV, or any other number of really weird and wild ######### that he did because it was all in a dream.
Rather, you just chase people around and...put down snares? Kinda weird.

Michael Myers and Leatherface want a word with you.
Well, ok, Leatherface sorta. Good point. So Ghosty Boi and Leatherface!
But Michael doesn't really feel like you'd imagine Michael Myers. You just walk around and M1 people while they hit you with pallets and run around rocks. I know it's hard to emulate the actual feel of the character in a game that has mechanics and balance to think about, but that's kinda my point.
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:
This used to be a thing.
You'd be able to recover from the stun and grab the survivor before they finished the animation which was pretty unfair.
I mean, that's the point of the perk, to make stuns much shorter and - often times - surprise survivors who were expecting something else, resulting in a free hit. (Enduring/Spirit Fury might be one of my favorite combos lately. Just watching the pallet blow up while the survivor is teabagging behind it, oh lawd.)
Two health states are a bit too punishing, though, that's true. Good point.
-
8% that I can't control, which requires the survivor to be somewhat near a gen, and with a long cooldown. MAYBE hits multiple gens.
or
25% on a gen of my choice every single time with the small drawback of kicking.

If the hook is forever unsafe, then what? I believe part of the reason they made changes to Hillbilly and Leatherface was to de-incentivize camping. This is in the same theme they're already pushing.
Add grabs to healing to compensate. Death pays for life, y'know?

NOED does this. I'm pro-NOED as is.
Then the person dies?
You guys aren't entitled to saves.
-
This is actually why I don't care as much for licensed killers.
They have to fit within the confines of the game mechanics, so they'll never really feel like the real deal. It always feels like something is missing. (One notable exception is Ghostface, because hey...he basically does what Ghosty Boi does.)
-

The problem here is - as always - people are using words like "fair" when they really mean "farming" or "throwing" or something similar.
There's nothing "fair" about the "hook everyone once before you hook anyone twice, and hook everyone twice before you kill anyone!" nonsense. You're just asking one side to handicap themselves for your benefit at that point.
You might as well ask StarCraft players to not pressure you early, or Street Fighter players not to block your combos. And then calling that "fair".

Aren't you supposed to not be "x side main" as a part of the balance team? How can you make unbiased and fair changes for everyone if you play one side more than the other?
Maybe that's why survivors keep getting bad perks.
Did you really just call out a BHVR employee just because they offered words of encouragement to a new player?
I mean, that's what it looks like, but that's too ridiculous to be true, right? Right?

-
Yeah, as others have said, you're pretty much just seeing the effects of all the extra information SWF's have at their disposal.
You can see it in the almost instantaneous reactions to your chases. Start chasing someone and boom, Discordance instantly lights up a gen. Break off the chase and it instantly goes away.
It's a massive advantage that you really have no counter to. All you can do is hope that they're really, really bad and even the advantages don't make up for it.
-
People actually calling out the guy for having rank 3 Legion perks on Legion?
Especially when he almost certainly has no - or few - teachables clogging up the bloodwebs, so ranking up the same perks is extremely fast?
The hell are you fools thinking? Just that eager to try to sweep the actual topic under the rug, I guess.

Depends how you look at things. I don't see it challenging when I have 3 spells to use, I don't need to keep tracking my procs, had specific gear etc. just for a raid. They changed raiding more to stand over here and then stand over there while you spam these 3 buttons. IMO they did not put out top end content after WotLK and I am not alone with this thought.
And see, it's weird when people say things like that, because it was in the early days when most rotations were as low as 1 button, mechanics were often (almost) EverQuest level of simplicity, and there was almost no interaction with your class mechanics. Nowadays you have classes that require a ton of attention to maintain a high level of play between priority systems, procs and resource management.
There's a reason why Molten Core was cleared on Classic in under a week with people who weren't even level 60 yet. Yeah, a lot of it was because they had done it before, but it's also because it's just extremely simple all around.

The irony is that Cata onward is when Blizzard actually started putting out top end content that really kicked peoples asses.
But since the dumb grindy and broken parts were mostly fixed as well, the crowd of "MMO gamers who thought they were something special because they played for 97 hours a week" started getting cranky, and they formed their complaints as claims of things being "dumbed down".

Heat not going up when you're not holding the button is a massive, massive reversion. That was a big part of almost all the complaints regarding the heat mechanic, because even a little feathering was a huge heat gain.

Jeez, sometimes Devs just can't win.

Am I the only one who almost never looks for blood anyway?
On a lot of maps, you just can't see the ground in the first place. On others, you really can't differentiate it from other variances in the textures.
Some maps they're ok, but I almost never get much value out of stopping to look.
-
Usually when this comes up, people will start hand-wringing over how people will somehow cheat with it and make blood puddles into disco balls and scratch marks into police lights or something.
It's true, though. I'm not even strongly colorblind and I still use a filter to make reds into another color, just because of how red will blend into other colors sometimes. (And when I posted a screenshot once, someone told me I was cheating, of course)

I play both killer and survivor. However, I realize, you have not said anything to prove your point, yet I have laid out point after point after point proving mine.
BTW, "trying to do it in a way that has the air of neutrality and objectivity, when it's clear you're anything but." is your only counter argument and that's a Ad Hominem logical fallacy. You're basically attacking me instead of trying to defend your own stance.
Yeah yeah, nice try.
You're literally just calling for Deathslinger nerfs. That's it.
You can try to put on this air of being some kind of master of logic who's just interested in deep, objective analysis from the developer perspective or something, but that doesn't change what you're doing or that your points are hollow.
-
Probably the most "unfun" thing is constantly being told by my opponents that I need to be nicer to them, go easier on them, care more about their feelings, make the game more fun for them, give them more points, give them hatch, and so on....
...but only AFTER they've already lost.
Before that point, you can be damn sure that they're trying their ass off, doing everything they can do get gens done and escape in 30 seconds flat while dancing in the exit gates if they could.

Actually, Otzdarva proved that proxy camping/tunneling with NOED netted 4k consistently, game after game for an entire day. He wasn't running basement Bubba or anything like that.
And I'm not saying this from a survivor perspective, I'm saying this from a developer perspective. As a developer, you want the game to be fun for both killer and survivor player. Game play that is unfun for one side or the other, ends with nerfs. Look at Legion and Freddy, both had extremely unfun mechanics for survivors, both were changed. Look at god-loops, unfun mechanic for killer, god-loops were nerfed.
Deathslinger, his terror radius is promoting unfun play by Deathslinger players, aka proxy-camping and tunneling. Nerfing his terror radius will for Deathslinger players to not have the option to proxy-camp and will promote better gameplay for Deathslinger players and make the game more fun for survivors.
You know what other killer had mechanics that allowed him to hard-core tunnel? Pyramid Head. What did the developers do to Pyramid Head?
Yes, well, if we were all Otzdarva we could all just win every game doing whatever we want - which is what he often times does all day long. (Although interestingly enough, Slinger is the killer he often seems to struggle with.)
As for the rest, it's irrelevant to the topic. If there's some change you know that's being made, then great. Otherwise you're just complaining about a killer but trying to do it in a way that has the air of neutrality and objectivity, when it's clear you're anything but.

Camping and Tunneling is always the best play for a Killer.
However, from the developers point of view, camping and tunneling ruins the "fun" for 4 out of 5 players. That's why DS and BT exist and it's also the reason Deathslinger will probably be looked at by the developers and have is terror radius increased. Because right now, Deathslinger's terror radius promotes proxy camping and tunneling.
Nope, don't even try that. (And no, camping isn't usually the best play, it's a great way to throw a match for one kill.)
This isn't the killer facecamping someone to be a jerk or something. This isn't a Bubba standing in one spot the entire game.
No, this is a killer with 2 people on nearby hooks, 3 gens left, and only 1 survivor out there. There's no good reason to walk away at that point.
Constantly telling killers that they should give up advantages and cut survivors slack for reasons gets old. Especially since if the survivors got the upper hand for a moment they'd be out the gate in two seconds flat, no matter what the killer thinks.
(Also, it's funny how survivors always talk about how the killer should have farmed more, should have been nicer, should have made the game longer or more fun....but only AFTER they've lost. If try communicating that I'm interested in farming when 4 survivors are still up, most of the time they'll just rush gens and escape ASAP, we all get 10k points, and they tell me how easy it was.)

Due to her bugs that were introduced with her rework. She requires skill and "luck". Half the time when you try to make a blink you won't go through objects anymore. Your fighting the game as much as the survivors. They could at least fix that but they haven't even acknowledged it's existence. At least before if you got good with nurse you could dominate. Now we got killers where no matter how hard you try, unless the survivors make a mistake, they will always win so long as they gen rush and stack 2nd chance perks.
Was watching Tru3 playing Nurse on Midwich yesterday.
The blink issues were just insane. Often couldn't go through certain objects, couldn't blink up the two-foot stair leading out of the courtyard, and at one point just a simple blink down the center of a straight hallway didn't work. Just went through the animation and stayed in place.
It's absurd, and why I won't touch that killer. I don't care how good they supposedly are on paper, I can't handle that kind of irritation.

Here in lie the two school, camping is the “smart play,” if you’re trying to get kills I guess. But letting them get I hooked and reset is the better play for emblems, BPs and (GASP) a fun drawn out game.
Ok, well, let me know when survivors plan on "a fun drawn out game" when they find they're outplaying me.
Seriously, all these silly appeals to emotion aimed at killers gets tiresome. It's not their job to be the custodians of survivors feelings, or to coddle them a little so they "have more fun". If you want the game to last longer, then survive longer.

It's also entirely possible the first one hooked had Kindred. The other survivor was closer and went for the unhook. Was already injured and got caught. We can spin theories back and forth all day. But neither of us know what exactly happened in this match. I'm not saying either the killer or the OP did anything wrong.
My only point has been that I don't believe you understood the OP's point. And given the photo they took I can see why. Especially given that, at least from what have been able to tell you seem to play more killer than survivor.
It's not that people don't understand the point, or that "killer mains are biased!!!"
It's that this isn't an example of a killer doing something wrong, or even unduly mean. Rather, it's a classic example of survivors blaming killers for their mistakes and the situations they put themselves in.
There is NO reason for the killer to leave those hooks now. Literally zero. It's not to be toxic, or "ruin their fun" at this point, it's just the most intelligent strategic choice in that situation. That goes for any killer, not just Slinger.

But camping and tunneling every swf is a bit too extreme, dont you think? Not all swf is sweaty.
Yeah, I love it when people ask for my attention (Teabagging behind pallets, clicking flashlights, bodyblocking) and then whine when they get it.

@DudeDelicious In this kind of loop. The pallet its dropped. I have bottles in both sides of the pallet (on me and on survivor). I need to break the pallet right? Cause if i go around they just play the pallet over and over.
@Clown I won't. But after 100 hours plus a ton of DLC's just to set up freddy properly its really tilting me.
Also keep in mind that abandoning the chase is an option.
If you find that a survivor is just really great at looping and is at a really strong loop, sometimes the best play is to walk away and pressure someone else.
You'll keep pressure on gens, and you'll either find someone easier to catch or you'll find the same guy from before but out of position and easier to hit. Of course, you still want to get better at handling the good loops, but even the best killers need to walk away sometimes.

I'm gonna save them up for double BP events now. That's when people are more likely to use party streamers too I've seen in the past.
Isn't the stacking just additive though? Seems like there's no reason to hoard them for another event.
As for the OP's question, I'm not entirely sure. I know I had upwards of 50-60 on killers that I played a lot during the event, and a good chunk on every other killer that I took advantage of the event to level. I'll have to count when I get home, now I'm curious.

Does it make total sense in this situation? Hell yes.

Had a survivor say, "Holy ######### you are ######### scary." when I played Michael on Midwich once.
No idea what I did so right. Was like my second game on Michael, with crap for perks. Beginners luck.
Same deal with a survivor that said, "DUDE THE MINDGAMES" when I played Spirit. No idea what I did right, because usually I don't do that well on Spirit.
Go figure.
-
My original suggestion was to have different weapons on the map from iconic kills in the series, each of which could picked up and had different effects. Each weapon would be consumed/dropped/something when hitting a survivor, though.
Axe would let you break pallets and walls extremely fast, pitchfork would have a longer lunge range or something, machete would be a one-shot hit, spear could be thrown and so on.
If he's holding no weapon, he just punches you in the damn head, because it's Jason. 😁
I guess it would sort of be a melange of other killers styles. Probably wouldn't work well in practice, but it's something.

He's only faster when invisible. And, he cant hit anyone. (Although I find it funny he can discharge generators in his invisibility) and his uncloaking is slow when he needs to hit anyone. Even when he's right behind anyone doing a generator. The bell tone warns anyone just as early than his cloaking can uncloak to get a hit in. It's only really when a fearless survivor sticks to finishing that generator a good smack lands. If you didnt have to hold down to uncloak. Things then would be different.
It might not be considered good, but Shadow Dance is actually kinda fun for doing everything while cloaked. Just zooming through those gens and pallets and walls. 😁

The reason why you got backlash and it doesn't feel genuine is because it was announced.
It should have just been done naturally. I dislike June because usually companies turn all their attention to the LGBT community in hopes for some $$$. Clothing companies do it, accessory companies do it, gaming companies do it, and it just doesn't feel from the heart.
You allowed people to express their feelings, you allowed them to expect and brace for the worse by announcing it.
As a member from the LGBT community, saying it was genuine doesn't change anything. What was done is done.
Yep, "rainbow-washing".
For about one week a year, every company is suddenly very concerned with rainbows on all their branding and carefully crafted statements from their legal departments about acceptance and inclusiveness.
Yeah, maybe individuals in those companies do care, but companies tend to be less than the sum of their parts when it comes to these issues.
-
No, the fallacy here is that balance is somehow exclusionary.
Balancing toward the highest level of play doesn't mean that you're somehow hurting casuals or leaving them out. It just means that you balance the game around good play and what works, not around feelings or players just not liking something, or cries for nerfs when counterplay exists.
(Also, where in the ######### do you get "SC2 = spectacular failure" from? The ######### people will make up sometimes, jeez.)
