  • Yes, but instead of 4 survivors and 1 killer, it'll be 8 survivors and the Entity's lawyer who writes strongly worded letters to them to stop tampering with the generators that are not their property.

Number of generators and completion time will remain unchanged.

  • Second game of the day, woohoo, this game is so much fun.

Thanks, BHVR. I'm sure glad that I logged on again, I promise I never regret that decision or anything. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  • I feel ya. Pretty much every day I make a daily, "First game of the day" post about matchmaking.

This time it wasn't a red rank group scumming with a low rank, it was just a straight up high rank 4-man when I was just screwing around doing a "throw hatchets" daily.

    image.png image.png

(Context on my chat there was someone asking me what I was doing throwing hatchets at a wall. I was trying to see if I could hit people on the balcony gen on Dead Dawg from the street, so I threw a ton of hatchets, reloaded, and repeated a few times. Don't think any got through, but they kept jumping off the gen and "dodging". ๐Ÿ˜)

I actually ask people after the match. It is not an opinion of mine, it is merely my findings. You may assume whatever you want, does not matter to me.

You can't take the word of the people being jerks when you ask them why they were jerks. That's pretty counterproductive.

  • @Pryzm said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/170267/teasing-killers-at-exits

You can't always consider it "bullying" or "toxic". I've known several non-toxic survivors that will wait at the exit to allow another hit. Each hit is 300 bp, so in some cases, they are just letting you get a bit more bp. Some of them do it in order to give you time to find the hatch and close it for more bp as well. I rarely play survivor, but if I do, I will wait for the killer to get more bp by downing me, or closing the hatch. If the killer was toxic, I'll just leave and who cares what his bp was.

Yes, some of them are toxic crap-for-brains players, but not all of them.

I always wonder what makes people form these assumptions - positive or negative.

It has never, not even once, come off as "wanting to be nice and give the killer some free hits" when people camp the exit gate. You could easily do that in a multitude of ways, none of which involve gathering up at the exit gate and teabagging until the killer runs in and takes a swing at one of you.

A lot of saddening negative responses to this thread.

It will be sad to see a veteran go from a beloved game I've always supported, I kind of relate to you as I'm considering moving on from this game and finding another to support.

Dead by Daylight has always been my go-too game for escapism and to have fun, but with how things are being managed lately, I'm considering dropping the game.

The only thing DbD helps me to "escape" from lately is a good mood. ๐Ÿ˜

@OP Sorry you had to go, good luck in your future gaming endeavors!

    Full article on Ruin:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/117488/designer-notes-doctor-gatekeeper-hex-ruin

    Short version:

We took a close look at the perk to identify what makes it so frustrating to play against. Three key issues were identified:ย

    1. Its punishment of new players or those who can't hit Great Skill Checks. Newer players trying to help veterans with generator repairs tend to make the situation worse rather than better.ย
    2. The passive nature of the gameplay pressure it provides means that there is a huge amount of potential with very little effort or risk on behalf of The Killer.ย
    3. Its inconsistency due to the random nature of the appearance interval of skill checks.ย

"We don't want to punish new players...except we'll still go ahead and let red rank survivors choose to face rank 20 killers."

Yeah, because when you say "players" you mean "survivors". Killers are just there to add some flavor to the real game.

  • image.png

So weird how the pug in this group (the rank 14) was my rank. Almost like the MM does just fine, except when the scumbags (the bottom 3) do what they do.

Not a joke. Billy is so unfun to play as now.

Who do you suggest i main if not spirit?

    Survivor.

  • First match of the night. 4-man SWF scumming the MM, just like every match, just like every night.

    image.png

Yeah, pretty good job so far, devs. Well done. You're all completely silent on this because you know it's intentional. As long as it keeps survivors happy it's whatever, I know. Sure. It's intentional on the part of the devs, it's intentional on the part of the SWFs. That's why every group does it, that's why I can usually count on the above being every single game, every time I log in.

Like I always say, I wouldn't be annoyed by it if it was just buggy, or if it was due to extended matching criteria due to long queues. I don't mind just taking a loss if it's just "the way it is". But when it's a system set up just to ######### on one group of players to keep the other group happy, and that second group abuses it endlessly, that's not acceptable.

But hey, you keep swimming in your money from those survivor skin sales. We know who your real bosses are.

    Top kek and all that.

  • Because survivors pay him off when he does it.

Hook, camp, wait for everyone to come to you, get a 4k without ever moving.

  • This serious reminds me of some Orc sounds out of Warcraft.

    Warchief Hillbilly: "LOK'TAR!!!"

  • "Fixed an issue where survivors could die."

  • Survivor: "Hey scrubby killer, hit me!"

    Also Survivor: "NOT LIKE THAT!"

  • Well, hey, they were asking for you to hit them. They can't complain!

Maybe friends games should be played with FIVE players? Only private. How about that?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1422352#Comment_1422352

Dude, this game is created around random people working together in silence. How do i know? No in game chat, no in game mics. Survivors groups meant to bi "silent" and mostly random. Thats the point of this whole experience.

Devs are just afraid, i dont know what tho.

Yeah, every time you bring up SWF people are like, "BUT MUH FRIENDS I HAVE FRIENDS I NEED TO PLAY WITH THEM OK WHY DON'T YOU HAVE FRIENDS I HAVE FRIENDS SO CRINGE TELLING PEOPLE NOT TO PLAY WITH FRIENDS, BRAH!!!!"

Then bring up KYF and it's just [Cricket Sound Intensifies]

Even worse is when they tell killers to just "take the L, don't expect easy wins, don't be entitled, just get better" as they hunt lowbies with their 4-man SWF of 3 red ranks and 1 rank 16.

  • @GodDamn_Angela said:

Maybe look up how matches were before egc? I know, Google is hard. Harder than typing out a long winded thread where you complain and completely miss the point even.

Matches have a definitive end now.

Well, I've had games where the survivors got down to 1 gen left and then all just went and hid in out of the way places.

If killer can open gates, can we also just click to finish a gen? ๐Ÿ˜

  • I had a game last night where the whole survivor team did literally this.

Was a very long game, and yet they all had 5k points or so, because they all lurked in corners of the map just not doing anything. Was the weirdest thing, thank goodness I was playing Doc.

  • @idroppedgodpallet said:

Between the 10 minute wait times, match-ups against rank 1s while being 14, and trying not to tunnel/prox for the sake of giving survivors a fair chance, it honestly feels like I haven't learned anything.

Could any expert killers out there graciously spare some tips and strategies? More specifically regarding how to chase down loopers? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Survivors won't "give you a chance", so don't return the favor.

  • Every time I kill survivors this event: "######### sweaty tryhard just be nice we need crowns and bp"

Every time I try to NOT kill survivors this event: Gens all done in 30 seconds and survivors telling me how EZ it was.

Ok, fine. Just gonna go play ProgressQuest, no people there to annoy me.

  • I'm sure you deserved it, being a survivor and all.

you also can be a rank 1 killer and verse a bunch of rank 15's

You can, yes, but that's a separate problem.

The MM seems to widen the search range when queues are long. That's a common thing in games, I get it.

But additionally, it also pairs killers with SWF groups based on the lowest ranked person in the group very often. This happens even when queues are fast for both sides, because it's not a function of a broader search, but rather an intentional matchmaking mechanic.

Well, I wrote out a long, thoughtful post in response to this, but something happened and it's gone. So I'm gonna try to make this quicker...

"Game was just as bad, if not worse, when I first started playing. Guess what? I adapted. Now I'm used to the game."

You adapted to crap. Congrats. You can be fine putting up with that, but I'm not. And it's still broken.

"Like I said, you can have your opinions, but you better know how the systems you're talking about work before you actually start complaining about them."

I don't have to know how to bake a cake to know if it tastes like #########. And I don't have to know how these systems work to know if something feels broken.

"That's why I comment on posts like these telling them to stop complaining about the ranking system. It's not a comparable system to other ELO systems you might get in League of Legends or Overwatch, or whatever other competitive game."

People who play Overwatch make the same arguments about medals in that game. And guess what? They're wrong. If you take a GM player and a Bronze player and put them on the same team, and make them compete for medals (regardless of role), the bronze is gonna lose every time. I don't know every metric they use in this game's ranking system, but if it's as meaningless as you claim (which honestly I don't believe, because it's just too stupid)? Then they need to just remove and rework the system entirely. If what you're saying is true, it's doing more harm than good.

The ranking system in DbD isn't great, but it's also not "totally meaningless" the way some people say.

I can almost always tell the approximate rank of a survivor just based off how they move. It's a clear difference. Progressing through red ranks - while definitely not a big challenge - does require some semblance of consistent performance.

  • The real question is...

    ...why DIDN'T I receive 444,445?!?!

    Game literally unplayable. ๐Ÿ˜ก

  • @SunaIIanu said:

Theoretically the match making is supposed to do what you suggested:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/E2875UNG86A7/screenshot-20200707-203832.png

But lately matchmaking has been extremely weird, sometimes even without intervention from SWF.

The Devs said that they are working on a New matchmaking, so we can only hope, that it will come soon and fix those Problems.

Indeed, they state that it matches against the highest, but it definitely does not seem to.

Survivors seem to know this as well, because the number of, "3 red ranks and a 16" groups that I encounter is far too great to be some strange coincidence.

I tested it with my wife (Since she's red rank and I'm extremely low rank on survivor) and the results reflected what we suspect - we got mostly very low rank killers.

  • The same reason scammers still send out, "Nigerian Prince" emails.

    Because people pay it off.

I use cake with my friends not with random. Everytime i tried it it was such a waste.

But they're effectively almost infinite right now if you're using them.

There's no reason to get less points - thus less cakes - every game, just so you can save 1 cake.

  • @Koukdw said:

Use cake so the killer can bring a ebony mori. FAIR

Oh, ok. So just don't use your cakes at all, then. Brilliant plan.

  • @Buttercake said:

I wish they kept the cake rate high, like it was. Whiners about 'not enough event flashlights and medkits' ruin the whole thing.

I dunno, I'm still seeing piles and piles of cakes.

You're at least almost guaranteed to replace every used cake with two more. It's weird seeing people acting so stingy with them right now.

  • I actually really like both killers on paper, but I always get frustrated by the lack of map presence when playing them.

Even if I land every single shot as slinger, I feel like I'm not pressuring people nearly as well as I do with other killers.

  • Why would anyone NOT use a cake?

I'm actually confused when I get into a match and I'm the only one that put one up. What are they waiting for, exactly?

I think that's mainly because most of the time you're holding M1 and hitting space every now and then. It's an easy Quick Time Event, but I don't know if making it hard will be fun. Honestly not sure how to make repairing generators more tense

It's not so much the nature of the gameplay as the fact that survivors aren't under the same kind of time crunch that killers are.

  • @Respectfulnancymain said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1420965#Comment_1420965

I play killer when i just feel like chilling out.

Its so relaxing getting 200k bp per game by farming

Sure, the BP on killer is nice.

But there's really no denying that - assuming you're "trying" - killer has much more tension to it than survivor.

That's not me saying that one is easier than the other, so no one needs to argue that. Simply that survivor always feels relaxing while killer feels tense.

  • Not even remotely close.

I was one of the people saying that the 4 was suggesting Pyramid Head, by the way. So yeah.

[REDACTED] is an extremely common thing out in the world. It's not SCP related at all, not unique to SCP, not created by SCP, not suggestive of SCP to anyone.

Sorry, but it's just not there.

  • Yeah, [REDACTED] isn't some SCP thing.

  • Then you're not progressing through red ranks.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

I think it's the emblem system; to pip as survivor you need to do one gen, get one save and heal, and then last more than 13 mins/escape. In terms of evader, you either need a decently long chase or just be stealthy like me :)

Getting decent Lightbringer/Benevolence emblems definitely takes more than one gen and one save/heal.

  • Want tension? Just play killer. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Survivor is what I play when I just feel like chilling out.

It's not just deflection. You just are simply missing the simple message I'm putting across:

    The rank system

    in DbD

    is not representative of skill.

There is no functioning matchmaking system.

Please. Tell me how that is "deflection." I'm putting out plenty to back up what I say, and not getting a lot back.

    You're saying it's not deflection while you're deflecting. C'mon.

Top rank players should not be able to choose to face newbie players. That's it. If you can't agree with that, then fine, but don't dance around it.

    First game of the night.

That rank 1 should not get to CHOOSE to face killers of my rank.

The results don't matter, it's the fact that it's a choice given to them that's irritating. Sure, they didn't heavily exploit it this game, but it's just as easy to get three rank 1's and a deranked rank 16, which is what often happens.

This is not functioning matchmaking. It's not even an attempt at it. It's blatant favoritism toward one side of the game, letting them scum the matchmaking as much as they want to keep them happy.

  • @Huff said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1419274#Comment_1419274

You're already just wrong when you make a statement like "Red Ranks play way differently, even a green rank play differently than a red rank."

No, that's simply false. Somebody doesn't adapt a playstyle simply because they have a certain colored number near their name. I've seen literal brown ranks playing like red ranks, and red ranks playing like browns. I see red ranks do absolutely stupid things, like (after the PH cage change) one of the survivors in my group (not premade) starts running up to the cage I'm in with Pyramid Head right behind him, and instead of letting me teleport away (like the cage does after the change) he is instead bound and determined to uncage me, and does it right in front of Pyramid Head.

I see every rank running all the "meta perks at tier III" as well. It's not just red ranks.

The boxing analogy doesn't make sense. DbD isn't boxing. There aren't weight classes or other innate advantages/disadvantages you may get from physical build, such as height. Also, it's different when it's chance-based with an algorithm handling the matchmaking than having some coach put you up against some guy of his choosing. DbD also isn't 1v1, or even a sport to begin with for that matter. I've had some other person trying to bring up Basketball as a comparison, and it's also ridiculous for the same reason: there's no inherent advantage/disadvantage in this game from player to player. Just because your rank is a certain number, that has no bearing on how good the survivors or killer are.

Do not try to say that people play a certain way or have a certain amount of skill just because they're ranked a certain way.

I understand that people of lower rank will often be less experienced (because they obviously play less, as that's what the ranks represent) but that doesn't change anything about what I'm saying: people will post screenshots of games that are totally winnable, but they lost or DC'd or whatever and then they'll just say "Omg the matchmaking is so bad all i get is red rank players to go against" instead of thinking "Hey, maybe I could have played a little better that game and maybe I would have been more successful." People use this whole rank system as a scapegoat to blame things on.

Once again, yes I'm aware that newer players are obviously going to have a hard time against more experienced players. Fact of the matter is, you still can change that by playing better. It's obviously not fair to put the very very best against the very very worst, but that often times isn't the case. Most games I see can reasonably be won. The one in the OP is a perfect example: sure it's green vs. red ranks, but it's far from being a full squad of meta perks. One of the players doesn't even have 4 perks. The killer even had NOED, and 2 green addons (which are both pretty good on Bubba.)

People like to act like the number next to somebody's name determines how good they are at DbD. It doesn't.

People like to compare this "ranking" system compared to the ones in other games. You can't.

Rank isn't indicative of skill. - devs

I'm sorry, but this is all just deflection.

No functioning matchmaking system should pair newbies with top tier players. (It definitely shouldn't let the top tier players CHOOSE to face the newbies)

    That's it. Full stop.

  • To more broadly answer the OP, though...mostly people don't actually bother with heavy stealth and sneaking at the high end.

They just run all the second chance perks, get good at running strong tiles, take hits intentionally because it doesn't matter, and just try to waste as much killer time as possible while gens get done.

It's part of why killers talk about the role being more stressful. Because against these groups you're just constantly on this very short timer and even when you're just beating the living crap out of them it doesn't seem to help.

  • @Respectfulnancymain said:

I really dont understand why people decided to ruin others experience when there mad, instead of just playing something else

I have to say, if "survivors screwing with me somehow" was some rare occurrence, I'd agree.

But since it's pretty much every match, I don't see why I should ever give them the benefit of the doubt now.

Nothing like being at rank 15 and hearing some red rank SWF who was trying to MM scum with a rank 16 crying about how, "Why didn't you let me go when I had crown?!" or something.
