While thats true that people should play both sides, i still am always perplexed by the attitude of players of this game.
There is no other game i have ever played where i am supposed to "think about how my opponent emotionally feels about how i'm playing and adjust my playstyle to be 'nicer'"
If i'm playing street fighter, and i'm playing guile, and my opponent is zangief, you can bet i'm going to try and win by throwing 100+ fireballs while they try to get close to me. I'm not going to "empathize with my opponent about how boring that is and make the choice to NOT throw a fireball because that would be 'too mean'" Nor am i going to be the zangief player and expect my opponent to stop throwing fireballs. Nor am i going to get in close with him and start a throw loop and decide "maybe i'll just throw them twice instead of keep doing it because its mean"
It is very confusing to me that for some reason in this game and this game only i have to "think about my opponent and be nice"
Like, am i supposed to just play chess and see my opponent hung their queen and think "ah that would be too mean to take their queen for free, i'll be nice and not do that"
If a playstyle is inherently unfun for boring to play against, it is not up to the players to not play the style for fear of upsetting their opponents. It is on the developers of the game for allowing said style of play to exist, and perhaps, as in my street fighter example, it is actually designed intentionally to allow for that style of play, that could just be the answer. But you would never cry to the other player about it just because they did something "boring"
Admittedly I have not played many competitive games and my examples are from games I haven't played in years but I do think what you are describing is not limited to dbd. I got complaints from opponents for using a specific weapon in CS and at the time I played many players viewed using an Autosniper as dishonorable.
Another example could be the spawn killing in R6S as far as I know many people found it frustrating, but I wasn't very involved with that community so harder to judge.

Are they gone now?

I'm pretty sure that maps don't reveal Killer belongings without an addon. (Might bei different for the rainbow map, but even If, it's rather unlikely they found a rainbow map randomly.)

Gen Alpha is 2010, right? Not even 18, so marketing for this group in particular would be weird imo.

Says to me either toxic build so ye they deserve it or didn't go into the match equipped to deal with the oh so common slugging. hidden perks says something to hide.
######### is a toxic perk build?
Sweaty perk builds, annoying perk builds, sure, but how can perks be toxic?

Sometimes I ignore the event to focus on gens when the other players are all ######### around with the void.

So many survivors escaped my grasp via the void. There are many ways to get some distance, its not as easy as last year with that busted instant teleports, but the void itself is extremely convoluted and its easy to loose line of sight there. Also, there is that window vault at the top that catapults survivors past all that rickity bridges, while the killer falls just straight down. So while you are right that the Void Crystals are the best thing here, evasion via void is still pretty strong.
Not sure if you mean the window I'm thinking of, but you can get on the platform with a lunge.

lethal is just used for the start or to extend aura build. bbq is the healthiest aura perk to get killers away from camping. Corrupt is basically a requirement on setup trap killers. NTH yeah we can nerf it ok but its limited to 8 kicks on a gen so idk how we can nerf it more bigger cooldown?
No idea why people always seem to read things I haven't said.
I'm not advocating for aura nerfs in general (I do think that the nth-aura shouldn't travel with the Killer though), my point is that aura reading is commonly used so I don't like that they nerfed distortion this much.
Nth hast no cooldown btw.

Yeah lethal, BBQ and nowhere are the most used aura reading perks you are correct. It does not mean they are all used in the same match. Like i said earlier my problem with distortion is the fact that it was unhealthy perk in soloQ matches. Many survivors just hide all match doing nothing to help out the team even when they are on death hook and this is why i absolutely hate this perk.
I rather we all are seen than 2 survivors take all the heat, while other 2 hide behind a perk.
Never said that they are in every match, but they wouldn't be in the top 10 of all perks (not just aura perks) if people wouldn't use them often.
Sure, hiding survivors are an issue, but nerfing the best tool against auras hurts survivors also, so I don't think survs won anything with the nerf.

OK fair enough. Maybe others see it more than me. I still think distortion is unhealthy perk especially in soloQ. It kills teammates.
I've posted it before, but 3 aura reading perks are in the top 10 according to nightlight.
For me lethal with another aura perk (usually nth) are pretty common. Also aura addons are quite popular on some Killers.

top picked ≠ meta
gen perks will be the only meta as long as generators are easy to complete
By that same logic you could say that WoO is not a meta perk, just a top picked perk

gen regression > gen blocking > aura reading
literally no aura reading perk is even meta anyways, only nowhere to hide is commonly used because it goes well with pop rest is only used by pyramid head or huntress full aura builds
edit: forgot about lethal pursuer
There are currently 3 aura perks in the top 10 on nightlight (bbq, lethal, nth).
So saying that no aura perks are meta is simply not true.

luck is fine I get that, luck of gen placement, starting places ect. It's not that I care about earning things but I do think it's a bit unfair on the other 3 survivors that have put the effort in for that one useless survivor to get what's considered a win (escape) then brag about it post game. Each to their own I suppose I mean noed can basically do the same thing for the killer, do nothing all match then mop up at the end with noed. It's crazy how many survivors have an issue with noed but not the hatch.
Like I said previously it's not that much of an issue because I can just slug them most of the time to get around the hatch issue. But my main gripe with the hatch is that it causes a stand off with the last 2 survivors. Both want to escape but won't do gens because they admit defeat and acknowledge they can't all be done with 2 player so hide. If there was no hatch then there would less incentive for the stand off (other than just pure toxic reasoning). That's why I would happily have killers nerfed if it meant the stand off for the hatch wouldn't happen.
It's not like I can't see where you are coming from, but the hostage situation is just not common for me. And since I play a lot of SWF I usually watch and root for the last survivor (same with a random that played well, it makes me happy when they can escape).
Personally, I'll try to get the gens when there are two people left, escaping with two people is rare but not Impossible.
I will hide if the Killer is slugging for the 4k though. They are most likely on top of the downed survivor anyway and I find slugging for the 4k annoying, so I'm not gifting the kill to them.

You can just increase target kill rates to 61% or 62% even 65% depends on how much hatch changes introduce, actual gameplay doesn't really change anyway, so difference in target rate shouldn't affect anyone
On nightlight 3ks make up between 13 and 22% of the matches. Sure, 3ks with open gates happen, but aren't that common in my experience so I would expect the killrates to rise more than a few percent when turning most of the 3ks into 4ks.
People would die more and they probably wouldn't be happy about it. A 4k is also more dispiriting than a 3k, so I don't think that the change wouldn't affected anyone.
Obviously, that doesn't apply if a new method would be introduced that still makes it possible to escape alone (e.g. a 1vs1 like some people suggested) but the person I answered suggested a timer without hatch and that will definitly increase killrates.
-
@AmpersandUnderscore said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3774339#Comment_3774339
And the meta counter to BBQ during that time was to hop in a locker and count out the timer before you hopped out again. You knew based on pickup that the hook, and likely the perk/aura read was imminent and could react most of the time. And, I'd like to add that lockers are on every map, so denying that aura read was possible base kit if you used game sense and had good timing.
The power creep with aura read has grown by an awful lot, and it's effectively impossible for survivors to predict things like "killer is kicking the gen on the floor below me", "my solo q teammate is unhooking in 5 seconds", "the killer is opening a locker" either "near me" or "anywhere on the map", or "someone dropped their toolbox at this tile".
You'd spend the entire match in lockers if you tried to avoid current aura reading that way.
I know. Distortion was still nice in sometimes (albeit quickly out of tokens if the Killer hooked often) but not as needed as today.
That's why I said that I agree with the general point of the original post I answered.
-
@Nazzzak said:
I very much doubt it. The point of Distortion is to hide your aura and I can't see that changing. I'm pretty sure the only killer aura reading perks out at the time Distortion was released was Nurses Calling. So why, when we now have several aura reading perks, would it suddenly stop hiding your aura? It's the only counter to LP as well.
BBQ was already in the game and a meta perk. Also bitter murmur and technically territorial imperativ and bloodwarden.
I do agree with your general point though.

I don't see the problem, not like BHVR can't adjust "target kill rate" according to those number changes, either
The results won't change anyway
I don't get what you mean, you think killrates wouldn't change without hatch?
And with adjusting the killrates, do you mean balance changes or do you mean using the new killrate as new target rate?
@Prometheus1092 said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3774308#Comment_3774308
That's my point, the game hands the survivor the escape. They should nerf the killers and get rid of the hatch so people can't abuse it. Whilst 3k games would become 4k on the flip side there are many games that more survivors would survive if there wasn't 1 person going into the match with the intention to get easy hatch escape. Maybe if that survivor helped then all 4 could survive in some cases. It has it's pros and cons for kill rates. But without the hatch the survivors would at least earn their escape and not deliberately try to hold the game up even with nerfed killers.
I don't see people playing for hatch often, but I do play a lot of SWF, so I might underestimate it.
You seem to care a lot about earning things. I don't understand that, luck is always influencing dbd and I don't see the issue with it, a 3k is a win just like a 4k. Not saying that hatch is the perfect solution, but as someone who has experienced hatch standoffs and 3man escapes at one gen left, I think the current version is fine. And the Killer seems to find it first more often in my experience. But since you wouldn't mind trading Killer nerfs for deleting hatch it's a fair opinion, even though I don't agree with it.
You could also argue from a horror trope standpoint having a last survivor escape makes sense, but that is imo a weaker argument.
-
@Rick1998 said:
that would actually be a buff to good survivors. Knowing your aura is revealed you can just hold W and hide behind los for killers like huntress.
Object already does, what OP proposes and even shows the Killers aura while doing it and it's played very rarely, so I don't think it would.

Personally I think the hatch should be removed all together. I don't mind too much because im happy with the 3k and don't mind slugging. But my issues with the hatch are
1. It encourages slugging which most people hate. Even if I down last survivor before they find the hatch, I tend to just slug them, look for the hatch to close for the extra BP then hook them.
2. In many of my games it's lead to a stand off where the last 2 survivors know they can't do the gens so don't even try and they both hide hoping the other player gets killed so the hatch opens.
3. It can lead to 1 survivor essentially sabotaging the team by avoiding gens, doing nothing the whole match or even deliberately trying to get teammates killed so hatch spawns. (I have seen this a few times, they usually go into the match with a key for this purpose)
4. Spawn locations are insane, they are no where near random enough. There has been times the hatch spawned at the killers feet and other times it spawns at the survivors feet.
From what I can see, the only advantage to the hatch is it gives a potential free pass to the last survivor which gives them incentive to come out of hiding at the end of the match.
The hatch spawns at the start of the match (there used to be a bug that it had collision while being invisible right from the start) so when it opens at somebody's feet it's just a coincidence.
Also, the hatch keeps the killrates a bit lower, if you add a mechanic like a timer, that will turn the majority of 3ks into 4ks the killrates will probably rise and that will probably lead to Killers nerfs.

You can still show them off in endgame.

I did not take your comment as "the majority of Killer players is taking revenge", but as "the majority of Killer players that bully do it because they are taking revenge" and that is the statement I disagree with for the reasons I said in my other comment.
Again I believe that people who bully do it, because they enjoy making others miserable. Bullying is easier in a group so I think that is why you see in more from survivors in 1vs4, but I'm sure some of the bully survivors switched to Killer in 2vs8 and continue their bullying.
I find the connection you draw between disliking the Mode and bullying Killers weird but maybe I missed something discussions.

I disagree with those who say this will “kill” the game… Far from it, this is the breath of fresh air we needed. Nearly 100k players on DBD steam during 2v8’s launch, with many veterans (myself included) returning to check this out. It can only get better the more they improve it
1v4 was becoming stale, and until 2v8 came along the previous game modes just weren’t fun nor successful.. this is the one myself & many others want to keepChaos shuffle was very successful with many people asking for it to come back, enough that the Devs put a question about it in their satisfaction survey.
Personally, I prefer Chaos Shuffle over 2vs8 and going with the comment above mine, I'm not the only one.

Truth be told, I can understand that mentality. After years of bullying, the bullied are getting a payback. And the bullies cant stand that
This implies there are no methods for Killers to "bully" in 1vs 4, which isn't true. Examples could be tunneling, bleeding people out, humping ...
Also, I think bullies are bullies regardless of who they play, they are not going to switch to the other side and turn nice suddenly, so that is another reason why I don't believe in the "It's just players getting revenge"-explanation.

You obviously couldn’t stop it on the phones. I think 99% of survivors would willingly stop using Discord because Proximity chat would literally be 1,000 times more fun. They could add something to the game to block discord from popping up and i don’t think it could be called malware at all since you could just use discord without the game being open.
I'm not sure if you would want to include the Killer in the proximity chat, but when the Killer isn't included there is zero reason for a 4man to use proximity chat instead of discord, and in my experience discord is more comfortable than game chat systems. I don't think including the Killer would be a good Idea, it would just lead to more toxicity.
For Duos or Trios the people they get matched with might not speak the same language. Sure, everyone talking english might be an option, but I think most people would just prefer to speak their language in a private call and just give occasional call outs to the randoms. Also, usually SWF do talk about more than just the game, I don't think the randoms necessarily want to be involved in that.
So I don't think people would prefer proximity chat over discord (and toxicity would obv be an issue aswell).

me and my friend were playing killer. trapper and huntress. we decided that our killer are super immobile and that setting people to cage was bad. Cages cannot be camped, the survivor teleport. you cannot prevent survivor from unhooking. you have 0 information where cage is. It is survivor sided mechanic.
Instead we decided that we down people in corner of the map and slug them till bleed out. eventually survivor would need pick-up their teammate so we would slug these people in 1 corner for anyone trying rescue. If more than 4 people are in the corner, we would cage because of our separate attack cooldown would exceed our ability to keep people on the floor. As a result, any excessive survivor past 4 we would cage.
Trapper is design to be camping killer. he is meant to camp 3 gens and basement hooks. the problem is…. there is no basement hooks or 3 gens to camp. there is only 5 gens to camp and these survivor sided cages. As a result, the only thing that trapper can camp is slugs. Trapper is very immobile. these maps are giant. the setup for him takes forever and loops are everywhere. it is bully simulator for trapper chase people. No chance trapper is getting 24 hooks.
Huntress is also immobile in this mode. a slow killer on giant map. wow. that's surely going to go well. Camp 5 gens and slugging people is main way to stall. It gets people off generators and allow killer to properly camp hooks(slugs).
I really like this new 2vs8 system. I like how slugging is correct form of camping and that "hooking" is more like aggressive "Nurse" aggressive approach to winning. they should have this kind of system in default 1vs4 where hooking uses cage system and slugging is "camping" play-style to win.
Just because something exists doesn't mean it was intended.
If there is bleed out timer, your clearly intended to kill people with it.
Bleed outs give a lot less blood points than hooks or moris and they do not count for the devout emblem so you are strongly encouraged to not use the bleed out timer to kill.
I don't know why the bleed out timer is a thing but it could just be to make indefinite slugging impossible.

Do we know whats considered "High mmr" ? I've always wondered how this bracket is described (aside from the blant numbers they mentioned somewhen). I don't know if I am in high mmr but I would say it feels like I am. However when looking at the high mmr bracket there is the almost gap I was talking about.
As mentioned earlier I don't want to stomp survivors. I don't know how to reach common ground with that many aspects and variables and maybe its simply not possible to do so.
But is it fair to just say "there is this group of squad players and we will just accept as a fact that they bully killers on purpose or win a lot more then intended by the basegame mechanics"? I don't know how big the group of "high mmr" is after all but shouldn't a game aim for equal conditions among all players? In older stats they used top 5% MMR (https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/350586/stats-kill-rate-by-killer-and-mmr-september-2022#latest), I don't know if high MMR also means top 5% though.
But even if the high MMR bracket was bigger than that, the difference in survival rate is only big for 4man SWFs. The stats for party size are admittedly old, but back than 4mans were the smallest group, so there should not be that many high MMR 4man groups.
Some very unfun strategies could be adressed, I wouldn't mind something like an item limit to two perk kind because that will have little impact in normal matches but yeah overall I think it is fair that the top squads survive most of the time because it's the same for Killers. For example, there is atleast one 1000+ win streak on Nurse, but meeting such a good nurse is rare and her kill rate is on the lower end, so I don't think Nurse need to be nerfed further because those outliners exit.
You are probably going to say that you match with unbeatable squads more often, but again, looking at the stats that is unlikely. And from my experience, some Killers blame SWF instead of other reasons like their own skill, bad rng and unfair matchmaking even though those aspects impacted the match more than playing with friends did.
Equal conditions for all would be nice, but I don't think that is possible in dbd for multiple reasons.
-
It wasn't in every game, but it was not uncommon either and quite annoying.
No one plays it anymore, so yes, the nerf improved my dbd experience somewhat.

I'm not sure if I understood you post correctly, but I do think that cruelty can be motivating in the sense of "I don't want this person to get away with their behaviour" and I could also imagine that a particular cruel game might elicit a response like "this will not happen to me again". I'm not sure if that would push some to play better or just sweatier though. But I don't think that cruelty has a motivating factor for everbody.
For me personally, if I encounter cruelty it can be the reason to stop playing for the day, especially when it's something like a bleedout, that the Devs could have fixed years ago. I've played dbd for years, but have relativly few hours for this time, because I need frequent breaks and I think cruelty is one of the reasons for that.

I was taking a light hearted stab at the zealot like fervour that tends to surround the debate between console/PC, with a friendly jab at the people who buy high end gaming PCs and enjoy all the benefits it offers...
I've seen people actively complain aboit being paired with console scrubs, so my joke was to say people on high end PCs are playing the easy mode of DBD and aren't true gamers... even though I used to be a PC gamer before a defect in my hand meant I couldn't use a mouse anymore... so I'm only taking the piss 😅
Okay. Sorry, I find it hard to grasp the undertones in writing 🙈

Console players don't need crutches in DBD like turning up our monitor brightness, spinning with mouse DPS, or being an fps princess.
We play real DBD, not milktoast DBD 😏😏😏😏
J/k my PC friends 😉
I'm not sure how to take your comment but again I'm not saying that there aren't advantages on PC and I'm also not saying that there aren't any advantages to mouse and keyboard, I'm not even saying that console players don't struggle more with skillchecks.
My only point is, that for skillchecks the crucial factor isn't the mouse but the FPS and FPS aren't automatically good on PC, so giving PC harder skillchecks would be unfair.
That the console performance should be better and that it is disappointing, that the 60fps goal still hasn't been reached (as far as I know) is a different story.

Yes there is advantage but it's not as big in normal play. But skill checks are way way more difficult on console and you can see that. I would love to know stats about it but I think pc survivors hit 99.9% skill checks and console maybe 90%. You can switch the input on mouse on pc and it's lot faster to press mouse than controller button.
Also if you see player dropping pallets instead healing player under it that's console player. We have less good buttons so we can't really change inputs. I would change healing but fixing gens would be uncomfortable from button X. Spinning is also easier too on pc.
I'm not saying that there aren't disadvantages on console but with skillchecks the main disadvantage isn't the mouse, it's the FPS. More FPS (and I think the stability of the framerate plays a role aswell) make it easier to hit skillchecks and since console performs overall worse in this aspect (atleast the older console, don't know about the newer ones) console players miss more skillchecks. But not all PCs have a great performance, so it can be a struggle for those on lower end PCs aswell. My bf played on both a Laptop and a PC and mentioned often, that skillchecks are easier on the PC than the Laptop even though both use mouse and keyboard.
Again, I have friends that play controller and not one of them has complained about hitting skillchecks and I know nobody who has put the skillchecks on the mouse. I've heard that people prefer the mouse for things like the hag teleport and mouse wheel for the old struggle phase, but never for skillchecks.
About spinning I've heard that you can get tighter/faster spins on PC, but spinning itself is easier on controller, I haven't tried that myself though.

With mouse it's still easier to hit them. Other option would be to make skill checks easier on console
Why is it easier to hit them with the mouse? You use the spacebar.
I also know people who play survivor really well with a controller, so atleast for survivor I can't believe that there is that much advantage for mouse and keyboard.

That build you suggest works agains't console players so don't suggest it... On pc they will hit all the skill checks no problem. I think the game should have harder skill checks for pc to even this out.
There are also PC players that struggle with low FPS, so that would be unfair to the PC players with lower end PCs.

I just want to say that I miss more with Doctor than with other Killers aswell, I don't know why though.

e.g. He 4%, a slug dies, he's chased and hooked again.
And I'm not a kid, in case you don't remember, I'm not "ashamed" of any play or move.
I believe you aren't a kid anymore either (even if not for long) so I expect you should start getting the concept of not caring about following the herd.
But if the las survivor is truely the last survivor they can't 4%.
