They do it so that immature baby killers don't target them whenever they get into a lobby with them the next time. Nobody likes playing against ebony mori Spirit because some dude treats this game like it's his life. I don't even play solo que anymore because of the constant mori's regardlessly. I get paired with rank 20 killers with ebonys and prestige with 300 ping usually.

Nobody really likes playing against 4-man red rank bumhunting SWF sweatlords, either. Or keys.

But hey, we deal with what we've got.

Exactly. A heterosexual in media is seen as perfectly fine, but a non-heterosexual is somehow a political statement and solely defined by their non-heterosexuality. Same thing goes for non-white and non-male characters. If you have a combination of two or more of these, they're clearly just a token character, because everyone knows there are no non-white, non-male, non-heterosexual people in the world. Zero.

If a creator doesn't want people to think that changes are part of an "agenda" or tokenism or a cynical marketing tactic, maybe don't have your legal department or whoever craft careful statements announcing to the world how inclusive you have decided you are now prepared to be.

Companies/corporations are not our friends. Do not look to them for anything in these areas. Yeah, Nike can have an ad featuring Colin Kapernick and claim they're on your side, but they still have kids in sweatshops in China making their shoes and are siphoning your tax dollars. (And yes, economics is the true force harming the majority of people. Don't let them make you forget it.)

There are heroes and role models for all sorts of people out in the world doing real things and being real inspirations. Do not look to the corporate world to carefully craft nicely sanitized figures for you to look up to, coincidentally just as soon as it's convenient and "relevant" for them to do so.

It's sad that the only reason people fear mori's, at least for me, is because about 8/10 times it's only in play by a person who is legitimately bad at killer and intends to tunnel/face camp and mori people off first hook for a shortcut to gain leverage they acknowledge they wouldn't get through sheer skill.

When I see a mori I don't think 'dang this is gonna be a fun game against a killer I'm well matched against'. I think 'oh here we go, we about to get face camped/tunneled and mori'd off first hook by probably a green rank killer' and that's exactly what happens. Happened last night.

Green rank Ghost face (11 or 12) with noed, drivers license, that ultra rare camera add on (don't remember what it's called) where you stalk people faster while leaning and an ebony mori.

He only mori'd one person because they were a R17 dicking around when they could have just ran out the gate. Yet somehow this R17 was doing 360s left and right on this green rank killer too. He still ended up with two kills because my baby teammates wouldn't save me on my first hook while my buddy (the other R1) was getting chased. They were afraid he was down in the basement with me because he had been doing that all game to try and tunnel and get the mori, but when he realized we were just going to do gens he decided that wasn't going to work anymore. The last time he tried that I was able to get the save and blind him to prevent him from tunneling the poor baby.

The other two were 15 and 1 and he wanted to message us like it was our fault he got matched against us? Like buddy I'm just as dissapointed in the match making system as you are for putting us up against you after queuing for half an hour. It's not like we bullied him or anything, he was just upset he got out played by at least two people and I mean hell, I died in the process trying to compensate for the baby teammates.

I'm a consistent R1 survivor for context and I'd say about half my killers end up being green. Other half are where they should be (between 1-4 typically).

I mean, if you're lobbying with low rank players, you'll get a lot of low rank killers.

No point in "blaming" them for being low rank.

  • As others have said, the matchmaking is pretty bad.

The biggest issue - as I've seen it - is that if a group of top-ranked survivors queue with a low rank person in their lobby, there's a good chance they'll get matched with a very low ranked killer.

It's often completely intentional, there are some nights when I see literally nothing but this type of group over and over.

For me it’s simple. They t-bag, twirl and taunt on the other side of the pallet. When I break it, they hit a wall or tree and go down hard and fast!

So satisfying when they can’t back up the taunt with action! (Sometimes it’s not even a tree, they just bad!)

Those are the best. They commit so hard to the BM that they forget to get any distance from the pallet. 😂

People like you just make the game unpleasant for those who want to enjoy the game. I suppose you got so used to dealing with brain dead solo survivors that you don’t even have the skill to deal with SWF.

The irony of this post is absolutely comical.

  • Yeah, it's like the writers confused his cruel sarcasm with, "HAHA WHAT IF HE'S JUST A BIG SILLY GOOSE!?"

Freddy always had a certain mocking, sadistic humor to him, but it wasn't meant to be straight up comical. The Wizard Master fight in 3, for example. Yeah, it seems "funny" until you consider what he's really doing there. Mocking a paraplegic with a wheelchair and literally trying to torture them to death with it.

This i agree with. If tge killer is within x meters you should be getting a percentage of the bps and something to do with emblems

    Indeed.

The mechanics are all there. Killers already lose emblem points for "Proximity to hooked survivor" and survivors already get credit for being near the killer or in a chase while gens are done.

So why not give some credit to the guy keeping the killer occupied for long periods of time? It might not make a lot of sense at first glance, but it doesn't hurt killers at all, it's not like anyone is going to intentionally get hooked for a few BP, and it might prevent a few hook suicides and DCs.

    Someone give a counter-argument!

But killer’s like to pretend that this one simple act PROVES we are a coordinated SWF... uhm no baby killer once you have a few hours into the game that becomes basic strategy.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1345543#Comment_1345543

im well aware of my friends list, I can guarantee you no one on it plays DBD. I am strictly 100% solo but I get accused at least once a day of “nice SWF,” by a killer who lost.

Some things are basic strategy like the above body block, sometimes it comes down to me running kindred or bond I guess and having that Info?

Never singled you out specifically, nor did I make any reference to strategies. I said that it's extremely easy to check on Steam, so it's not like people on PC are guessing or something, it's pretty obvious.

  • People always forgetting that on some platforms it's really fast and easy to check if a group is a SWF or not. (On PC, at least)

What's weird to me is how many SWF's will go on denying it even when I can see their friends list. Or how many people on forums insist that they would never do things like communicate.

It's ok, guys. Everyone does it. 😁

If you really remove the entity buffs then doc loses his shock powers which is written that the entity gave him.

Nurse loses her wall phasing and psychokinesis so that would make it easier but due to her profession she knows all human vitals and presumably pressure points so despite her stature she can do serious damage even unarmed.

Spirit would no longer be able to phase or have that magic sword since superpowers were no doubt part of that "deal" however if her soul is strong enough to become a ghost you'd probably lose anyway.

That last part is what I wonder about. Which killer powers are entirely entity-granted and which are a function of their "natural" state now?

If we're in a world where something like the entity exists at all, it seems reasonable that we might also be in a world where vengeful spirits and such exist. So is Spirit only powerful within the realm of the entity, or would she still be a raging spirit in the "real world"?

    How about this: None.

I dislike watching 'YouTubers' play DBD or any game for that matter.

I have never got my head around the attraction of watching some annoying berk play a game, whilst squealing, making silly baby voices, with interspersed animated meme gifs popping up on the screen.

It could be argued that players learn tactics from these individuals, but I think I would slip in to a coma if I had to sit through a 3 hour live stream whilst a seasoned Pop vinyl collector shouts, screams and says "Y'all!" every 5 minutes.

They get right up my ruddy nose.

Well, have you tried watching any streamers that DON'T squeal, make baby voices, or cover their screen in memes?

Not sure I've ever watched a streamer that's actually as annoying as people who don't like streamers make them sound.

  • Spies from the Shadows amuses me entirely too much when it works. There's just something entertaining about the thought of some cheeky crows yelling, "CAW CAW MOFUGGA! HE'S OVER HERE!" for your benefit.

I've literally had situations where I said, "Ok, I think that dude has Head-On. Let me just bait it out by running to the side of the locker and...oh, it still hit me way over here?!"

The ranking system only tells you time in the game during that month, nothing more... and it resets. It is not an indicator of performance. At all. Especially since you can easily pip, and people can be absolute potatoes while being in the highest rank. Confusing rank with skill is a mistake.

Devotion, on the other hand is tied directly to total time. This cannot be manipulated. There are no ways to actually farm XP, unlike emblems. If anything, Devotion is closer to your amount of skill than ranks are, as the more time you spend in the game total, the more experienced, and better, at the game you should be.

    That's flatly absurd.

For one, you just said that both are just measures of time, but the one that is also a measure of performance is somehow less meaningful because it only reflects time you played recently? That's literally the opposite of how anything works.

Second, you say you can't manipulate xp? Sure, all the farmers and AFKers and people who just goof off most of the time want to talk to you.

I see this argument so much in gaming circles and it's just mind-boggling. Raw time spent is meaningless without something to show for it.

Not everything is a personal attack, you can reply to people in civilised manner when they are literally talking to you in that way.

True. But given my history with that poster, that "innocent question" was almost certainly going to be a prelude to, "A-ha, I found something that I think is an inconsistency, you lying killer scum!" 😂

If it was anyone else I probably would have just answered, honestly.

Can you point me to where they said they wanted to make the game brighter for everyone so that "less skilled" killers can see better? Go ahead, I'll wait.

Pretty much. Although in their mind they didn't mess up, you "didn't play fair".

  • I just need to improve my mental state overall, but that's not a DbD specific thing. That's true in anything "competitive" I do.

  • @TheMetalAmbush said:

Okay, since it's story time here is mine:

I played as the Demogorgon as a rank 13 Killer against rank 10 and below. The round lasted about 10-12 minutes because at the beginning gens were just flying once i found a survivor(Dwight) by the time i downed and hooked him they were down to 2 gens that was all they needed. So i hooked Dwight and went on to the closest gen when I noticed one of them making a run for Dwight. So I abandoned my original plan and went after that survivor. We made loops and loops around Dwight until i finally downed her(Meg i think) and as soon as i downed her one other survivor rescued Dwight... so I went there to check and hit the rescuer and downed Dwight again so now 2 down and 2 to more suvivor to go. I picked up dwight and hooked him again when i noticed the other 2 survivor at the hook so we made loops and loops and loops until i finally downed the other 2 so 1 hooked Dwight and 3 downed survivor. When Dwight died i easly picked the other 3 up and hooked all of them since I had Deerstalker III . One of them even menaged to get off the hook but unfortunatly for her i was still close, downed and hooked her again. So that's my story of a 4 kill match. Then after the game in the chat they said i was a "noob". Then I asked "why"? The respons was "think". And yes it might seem that i was camping but for god's sake all of them were right there.

(the perks I had: Deerstalker III, Whispers III, Hex: NOED, Shadowborn I)

What did I do wrong? all 4 of them were there trying their best to rescue Dwight. What was I suppose to do? go to the other side of the map when i knew that all of them were at the same place?

Any advice? (I might be a noob for all I know xd I only played this game for like a month and a half)

Yup. You'll have this happen to you a lot. You didn't do anything wrong.

There are a lot of situations where survivors just seem to think that the killer should give up. They won't say that directly, but they'll insist that you're a "noob" or "toxic" if you don't take actions that directly lead to your loss.

Situations like extreme altruism - like your example - or a really tight 3-gen scenario, or hooking someone when the exit gates are open. People will insist that you should just walk away from the hook, or commit to a long chase instead of protecting the gens, or look for other people instead of securing that last kill.

It's nonsense and it basically boils down to asking the killer, "Would you please just let me win?". And some people will get extremely pushy about it.

    You probably read that wrong.

Nope,i've seen survivors trying to hide in plain sight, avoiding pallets and windows like the plague,a meg that self cared while she was infected etc.

There was no level consistent competency.

Sure there was. The game demands it, they can't actually get pips by dying instantly or doing nothing.

It might not be up to your standard as a player, but the criteria is there. It's not a great criteria, but it's definitely there.

  • @AvisDeene said:

I don't see an appeal to any of them since I am a filthy potato.

When I play Survivor, I play stealthy and pick perks that I always get put down for using.

When I play Killer, I just use whatever I feel like using. I do use NoEd a lot since I don't care to play any of the top Killers. I like Trapper and Hag the most and with how fast generators go, I kinda need it to buy a little more time in endgame.

Yeah, my wife is like that. She prefers to play a more stealth-oriented playstyle because she's just not that good at looping (yet) and doesn't see the fun in second chance stuff.

And it feels like every damn game people are on her ass about, "Those aren't the right perks, you were useless, learn to play, nyaaaaaaaa!" because there's a fairly strict, accepted meta that survivors expect now and deviating from it is unacceptable.

She's still Rank 4, though, because she gets ######### done every game.

But yeah, the survivor meta now is for everyone to be invulnerable supermen, rush gens, and second chance out of the gates. If you don't fall into line with that, people get mad.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1343097#Comment_1343097

But those criteria just aren't enough.

Red Ranks is supposed to be the place for the top players, but that just isn't the case right now.

The amount of inexperienced players at those ranks is absolutely shocking.

Honestly, people say that in every game that has a ranking system. Especially team games, where everyone at every rank says their teams were trash. 😁

If you're Rank 1 in DbD, you're displaying SOME level of consistent competency. You aren't just going to keep getting red rank pips if you're AFK, chilling in lockers, Blendetteing for the hatch every game, and so on.

It doesn't mean you're a top pro player - but neither does any online ranking in other games. (A GM-rank player online in SC2 will still get bopped without any trouble by the top pros. Many of the top players in SF5 by online points drown in pools every tournament. So on and so forth.)

  • @thrawn3054 said:

Yeah, it took me a week to go from rank 20 to 7. Granted I've been red ranks before. But still kinda crazy.

That sounds completely expected if you were red rank in the past. That's exactly how a ranking system SHOULD work, you're pushed out of lower ranks and closer to your correct rank quickly.

Hell, if you're a pro SC2 player on a new account, you'll be in Masters within the evening. Just because the placements and MMR will want to shove you up as quick as it reasonably can.

The only real complaint seems to be that Rank 1 is a little "too easy" for competent players to reach. (A claim that I'm already a bit skeptical of.)

  • @Poweas said:

Woah why does it look so cool with the colours?

Because my eyes don't like reds/greens together too much. So reds are now some kind of light purple?

It's not full on deuteranopia by any means (I think it's called a mild "weakness" rather than "blindness") I can see red and green very distinctly, but in situations where colors are often blending together and I need to quickly see tiny bits of red (scratches?) it's possible but just a lot easier if they're a color other than red.

Oh, I know. And I know a lot of survivors try to tip the matchmaking in their favor by bringing a low rank smurf into their red rank SWF, thus aiming to get easy pips versus baby killers.

It's why I do a lot of...shall we say..."low effort" games as Wraith. If someone is actually solo and appropriately ranked, they'll only benefit! If they're a rank 1 SWF bumhunting with a rank 20 in your lobby, they depip. Shame about that.

So what other actions taken by survivors should the killer just ignore?

Should they just ignore blown skill checks because maybe it was done purposefully, or maybe the person who gets caught won't be the one who did it?

  • @Poweas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1341716#Comment_1341716

Yeah, it's a really bad issue. I'm only concerned with my survivor ranks though.

As killer, I still have the skill of a R1, it's just that as survivor, I shouldn't be any higher than 10.

Why do you say that, though? Where did the number 10 come from?

The ranking system IS a strange beast, but if you got to red ranks as survivor, then you deserved to get there. Outside of cheating somehow, there's no other explanation. You fulfilled the criteria for reaching those ranks as the game presented them.

1 … 7 8 9 10 11 … 28
