Survivors, easily. It's not even a competition.
Every time I play survivor it's mostly just GG's all around. Occasionally a killer does something annoying like the whole "Gonna give you the hatch, JUST KIDDING, LOL" thing.
With survivors it's just constant, all the time. Someone has some trash to talk, someone has to be a smartass, SWF's are constantly exploiting the matchmaking and looking to bully baby killers for pips in red ranks, every single game people have to whine about how the killer played and issue insults accordingly, and so on.
The only good thing a survivor has ever said to me was just nothing at all.
Edit: Heh, two consecutive games after posting this: me as killer, my wife as survivor. Survivors tell me to kill myself in my game, and one of my wifes teammates tell her they hope she dies of corona, while the killer just said gg in hers.
-
Me as a Killer: "Dammit, did all 4 survivors spawn across the map AGAIN?!"
Me as a Survivor: "Dammit, did I spawn right next to the killer AGAIN?!"

I can't stand the 60 Seconds of Immunity when I'm stuck crawling for 40-50 seconds because I bring DS.
Sure, but that's also a lot of time the killer spends taking a risk on you getting healed and that down meaning nothing. You're pretty much guaranteed to recover enough that someone can just drive-by heal you.
-
And you want it both ways.
Every time someone asks why it's ok for them to chase someone off a gen and then get hit by DS you say, "It's not anti-tunneling so it doesn't matter.....but you're also tunneling, so you deserved it!"
-
Survivors: But it's not an anti-tunneling perk, so it's fine!
Also Survivors: You're tunneling scum if you get hit by DS!

TWiXT said that he didn't experience the problem, along with a slew of other people, and offered some information about his settings that could, hopefully, help out those who are experiencing the problem. He didn't say the problem wasn't real (quite the opposite, in fact) or called anyone a liar. In short, he's offering advice and information that indicates the problem could be external to the game.
It sounds weird to suggest that something might be wrong with one's settings when the sounds play most of the time and then just don't sometimes. Especially when they play fine in a match and then don't later in the same match.
Most of the time I hear downed survivors just fine from a pretty wide radius. Sometimes I can be standing right on top of a downed survivor looking at them and absolutely no sounds are playing. (Actually had to apologize to a survivor once because I was just kinda standing on top of them and then running around trying to hear their sounds, and they thought I was just slugging them and being a jerk. Hah!)
-
@Wubalubadubdub03 said:
I pretty sure his main reason for taking a break from killer was all the sound bugs.
The sound bugs get old really fast, it's true.
It's not like they're THAT common, but even if it's just a once-every-couple-matches thing, it's enough to potentially mess up that match.
But man, if killers just occasionally didn't emit their terror radius, the community would explode.

So as a killer who goes against reds and a solo survivor who sees lots of reds on my team I have to say the skill gap between this rank 1 and that rank 1 can be HUGGGGGGGEEEEE.
Ill have a teammate who loops the killer for five minutes, Is constantly doing gens or something else, and makes a well timed saved during endgame. Then I’ll have five teammates in a row who crouch if the killer is anywhere on their half of the map, self cares against sloppy butcher in a corner, and basically gives up halfway through the game camping hatch for 10 minutes.
Considering that you can get to red rank by fighting level 18 killers, it's no surprise that the gap is large.
-
Yeah, they don't want us actually looking at Steam profiles, I guess.
I mean, it doesn't really matter, I still know that your "1, 2, 1, 17" group getting matched against my rank 18 killer was a SWF trying to exploit matchmaking, it's not some secret. 😁
-
I can't seem to view peoples Steam profiles anymore, either.

having the surv as an obstacle to hit the unhooker is something expected to have in the game for the good of realism,
and as killer you are required to have skills to hit accurately the unhooker, and the unhooker the skills to make you fail and hit the hooked instead
"The good of realism"...yes, very realistic that the person on the hook is an invincible meatshield. This is very much how things work.
-
Well, you'd still get placed against red rank SWF's if you were rank 17 anyway. So hey.

Feel like most of his power is gonna come from him being able to challenge window vaults and such. He'll end up putting survivors in a similar predicament as a Huntress with a hatchet up in that survivors become an easy target when they're locked in the vaulting animation, allowing you to get closer as they try to guess when the attack is coming to juke.
Yup.
It's exactly what we saw on the test server. Good players won't let you hit them with it raw, but it's a guaranteed hit on vault/pallet/etc animations so he negates certain loops/tactics.
-
Some of it is just over-cautious, hiding survivors.
Part of it is also some of the over-the-top tome challenges that require you to do silly, unproductive things.

Why should the entity protect survivors? It f***s survivors where possible
That's actually not totally true. The Entity certainly isn't their friend, but it also seems interested in letting them put up a fight. (it would be easy to just spawn the survivors and killer in a 5 foot by 5 foot room and let them be instantly killed.)
Also, Repressed Alliance shows that survivors can actually call directly on the Entity.

I agree, I always said Behaviour was smart for making their characters open for all possibilities, This person ship these two together or other think her main is a lesbain, and fanart everywhere. This is how should stayed tbh.
Anyway they should at least make a new character for this. Im Ace main, I hope he survive this. but im afraid...
What are you "afraid of"?
It's a fictional character. It's not you. It doesn't represent you. It doesn't affect you.
You won't become gay if Ace does.
-
@coppersly said:
Please understand how little this argument means coming from someone who has straight representation saturated media with so many easily self-identifiable characters.
We have none whatsoever in the game, and really not that much elsewhere. It's not going to retcon the lore of other characters (hopefully, I have faith they can do decent lore) and just have new characters sometimes not be straight. Don't like it? Don't play it.
I don't play Ace because I don't like him. Easy enough right?
Some characters, imo, should stay with the blank slate trope so anyone can project onto them, while some should explicitly be identifiable with.
I never really understood this argument. Figures in the media don't "represent" me just because they have the same skin color, gender, orientation, etc as me. Rich straight white dudes living in Hollywood so far from my reality and life that they're less representative of me than a middle class black gay woman would be.
Maybe I'm just not interested in the concept of being "represented" by fictional characters or as a factor of my physical identity. I'm as lily white as they come and Barack Obama "represented" me better than any of the white presidents in previous decades.
That said, if a character being officially gay makes someone happy, then that's great. More power to them, I won't complain. It literally affects nothing for me because it's not me in any way.
-
It's 4 min max. Less if you had been downed before.
Get up, get a drink, go watch a kitten video, whatever. It's not like you're being oppressed here.
-
Probably.
Death is the fate of us all. Unless you're a killer, then it's just nerfs.
-
I get the "Totally silent downed guy" bug...kinda regularly? Not like "omg every game this is unplayable" often, but often enough that I'm no longer surprised in any way.
-
I usually bring up their stream just to see what they're up to.
Every time I've had a streamer survivor in my lobby when I'm playing killer, they've proven to be the absolute worst frat boy style asshats to impress their friends and viewers. It's probably why they're drowning in the sea of streamers with <5 viewers.
I don't really change anything for their sake, but I certainly have little respect for them most of the time.

Sometimes killers will find 3 gens and protect them so survivors are in a gridlock. I think there should be a mechanic that discourages a killer for refusing to engage in chase. The entity should be upset with such actions.
I never understand why people seem to think that it's incumbent on the killer to give up in a 3-gen situation.

They don't want to balance potentially strong perks. Instead of making the game interesting they keep the current meta so they don't have to worry about balancing anything.
This is actually a pretty big issue for long term game development. Power creep can significantly impact a game over time.
On one hand, you want players to be interested in new content. On the other hand, do you really want to see perks that are better/stronger than Pop, DS, etc? And then later perks that are even better?
It's a dilemma for developers. It's why they have to get so creative with new perk effects.
-
"FIX NOW"
Survivor Perk: Every time you are hooked, "FIX NOW" automatically generates a post on the General Discussion forums containing the killer's name, their addons, and their perks, along with an ultimatum addressed to the devs to "FIX THIS NOW".
"Dedicated"
Killer Perk: Once per trial, any whiffed attack will instead strike the nearest survivor.
(File these under, "Perks you might think already exist.")
-
Survivors: It's so dumb that NOED gives a killer a reward after failing an objective!
Also Survivors: I only run Decisive Strike, Unbreakable, and Borrowed Time, as all true men of culture do.

That literally almost never happens though. In a majority of my games where I get keys and toolboxes etc. I tie or win most of the time. People act like there's no counter to this but unless you're running into the most efficient team with Unbreakable, DS, Sprint Burst, and all of those meta perks and items but most of the time people just play bad. They don't get early downs and they don't keep pressure. I know sometimes the maps make it impossible to get those early downs since there's 7 pallets around shack and such, but these things don't happen ALL THE TIME. In the 2 years I've played this game as a killer main I've probably ran into these types of teams 6 times. Sometimes the game just sucks and you have to recognize that instead of taking every match personally and seriously. Stop being so petty and just take the loss. You can't improve if all you do is cry for nerfs because you didn't 4k against a red rank team as GhostFace.
I mean, I was replying to your post whining about things that killers choose to do, and now you're telling me to "stop being so petty and just take the loss".
Big think. The biggest of thinks.

Translation: "I cannot find anything to counter your point."
It's okay sport, there's no shame in admitting that you need the gamma maxed to get kills. Everyone has to start somewhere, but don't try to call out not "playing as the game designed" while you yourself are not playing "as it was designed". Stones, glass houses, hypocrisy - you get the gist.
....what?
You're the one calling me out for something. Not the other way around. Pretty sure that leaves the hypocrisy ball in your court.
Besides, it's obvious that you're just trolling over someone's video settings. It's not like it's even a real discussion, why would I bother to engage seriously? I guess I could respond with, "Why is your headphone volume set the way it is, bruh?!"
-
Depends on a lot of stuff.
For example, on some maps I'll just wait by an exit gate because I know the killer is hunting for the hatch, so I just get out that way. The Game, especially.

I used to hate when people escaped too when playing killer. I got over it when I started to consider 4 escapes a stomp (to me), 3 escapes a loss, 2 escapes a draw, 1 escape a win, and 0 escapes a stomp (to them).
Indeed, that's how I see it when I think of it objectively.
In the moment, though, anyone escaping feel like a failure in some way. They got the hatch? Well, it's because I goofed up. Somehow. 😅
-
I think it is just you! Really, though, I like playing killer more but it's also always more stressful.
There's the feeling of being on a clock at all times. Of every second mattering so much.
And of course, knowing that it's just you, so every tiny failure is 100% yours. (Which is sort of a positive and negative)
Not to mention the nagging feeling that I should always win. When I play survivor and I get killed, it feels like no big deal. When I play killer and anyone gets out, I feel like a big failure. I know that doesn't make sense, but it still needles my brain for some reason. Probably related to the, "Every mistake is mine" feeling.

This is what's happening to me. Except i play at afternoon when i can stomp soloq with rare swfs only to get all red rank swfs at night being a green rank. Matchmaking is seriously ######### and the gap between swf and solo is clearly there.
Yeah, first game of the night tonight was two red ranks queued with two "new steam account" rank 19's that somehow were really great. Go figure.
Second game of the night was this:
Quality experiences 24/7, I tell ya.
-
Yep. All night every night is just me at rank 16 vs.red rank SWF's exploiting the queue with a low rank.
It kinda gets old fast. It's literally every single match, every single night now. Because they know what they're doing.

I felt like the situation with Soldier was perfect.
You don't need "hints" and Blizzard didn't feel the need to do a corporate announcement beforehand to alert everyone to the incoming gayness, or whatever.

Yeah, Mori's and Keys both confuse me.
They both just end the game prematurely and everyone loses. Even the people who "won" using them.
They just seem so pointless. I don't even care about being OP or not, they just seem like a waste.

Sure, I'd think the pessimistic view is that Pride Month is an opportunistic time to do something like this. But doesn't Pride Month exist to call attention to the impact that LGBT people have had? There's a positive connotation to have a company saying "hey, we hear you." It may not be ideal, but am I wrong in thinking that this kind of progress is a net positive?
Nah, I won't say you're wrong. It's definitely a fine line when handling social issues.
Rainbow-washing may be a problem, but there's also a saying that I always liked: "If someone wants to be your friend, let them."
So...yeah. Fine line and all, I guess.

But it does matter to some degree does it not? Otherwise why make the distinction in the first place? If it just doesn't matter then there is no reason to state the characters sexual orientation at all. Going by how much of a response this thread has gotten, plenty of people have an opinion on the matter. So at the very least can we all agree on the fact that it does matter.
Well, that's the dilemma, isn't it? I guess some people do care. Maybe it's just me that doesn't think about it either way.

I assure you that I have a very dim view when it comes to corporate responsibility in a broad sense. But what decision could they make, which you think would check all the boxes to convince everyone that they actually care, instead of "pandering" as you put it?
Companies are made up of individuals, and I 100% believe that many of the people who work at Behaviour are supportive of this on a personal, human level.
What decision?
Like I said, just doing it. Not having legal draft up the most corporate-sounding statement ever and putting it on social media to announce, "Hey, now that it's June, we thought we'd let you know what a good company we are!!"
It's why members of the gay community are often the first to call out companies for simply "Rainbow-Washing" during the month of June rather than actually being supportive.
And yes, I'm sure every individual at BHVR is a fine person. But companies usually end up being less than the sum of it's parts when it comes to human issues.

Nobody said "basically the same thing". Some people said they would enjoy playing some characters more (meaning they already enjoyed playing those characters) if they could relate to them more. You said some people were saying they would only be able to play some characters if they could relate to them to begin with, which is blatantly false.
You made a strawman argument. Own it, apologize, get past it.
I literally never said that anyone would "ONLY" be able to play a character.
That was never said, at any point.
Good job projecting the strawman part onto me, though.

If a company knows that some people want this, and they take steps to fulfill this wish, why is that a bad thing?
At best, a company takes steps to make its audience happy. I feel like you are trying to put this at odds with fiscal pursuits, but sometimes these two things can exist harmoniously.
Because it's just cynical marketing and pandering.
They don't actually care, but they want credit for caring. That's why tome fragments about Dave and his boyfriend didn't just appear to fit into the character, but rather BHVR took the opportunity to have legal draft up the most corporate sounding "We like inclusion now that it's June, guys." statement ever.
Don't get me wrong, if some people are made happy by it, then that's great. But do not look to Corporate America for your heroes and role models and representation. There are plenty real, genuine, heroes out there taking real action. If you want people to look up to, look no further than them. Not some hand-crafted, sanitized, token fictional character shoved into a game for Woke Cred.

That is a poor argument to make. "You should just never play any game ever in case at some point in the future they make a change you don't like." That is basically what you said. To answer your question, as a rule I do prefer to play characters that are the same gender as me. Will I play characters with different genders? Sure. Whatever. It isn't a deal breaker. I might play a survivor that is gay too. But I don't particularly like an identity being forced on a character that I've been playing for a long time. That is the point I'm making.
Why would it matter?

Guy over on page 3 mentioned something to the effect of how it'll be nice to have a gay survivor when they choose to play survivor.
Some people are very much prone to identifying with characters, personalities, figures, and so on. Other people aren't. No one in DbD "represents" me, regardless of color, gender, orientation, etc.
Besides, it's a pretty trivial thought process to follow. Changes like this are only made this explicitly because companies know some people look to fictional characters for representation. It's the point I was making in the first post that you dismissed.

Then you should have never played any character at all tbh. They have stated before that there are LGBT characters but they didn’t want to explicitly state them. Do you also only play characters that have the same gender as yourself?
DbD characters always had defined backstories and were never just blank ‚insert yourself‘ characters and we always knew there was more to every character that we just did not know yet.
I'd say the same thing to people who say, "I can play X now that I'll know I'm being represented!"
Did you just...not play anyone before?
