the toolboxes wasnt even the strongest and there as only two, but what youre saying is when you arent playing against the actual good red rank players the games fine, but when you go against people who actually play like the real old red ranks then you cant do anything about it... and thats the problem, the game shouldnt have to rely on survivors being terrible and afraid to do gens etc. for you to do well and have fun...
I agree you shouldn't have to rely on the survivors being potato to win, but therein lies the problem. If we make it "fair and balanced," for the best killers vs the best survivors then everyone else will suffer and that makes up like 90+ percent of the player base. BHVR clearly has to worry about appealing to the masses. Also, I am one of the masses lol I am not elite by any stretch.

this is why you keep track of time/days to find the best time to play each role, i notice patterns when i play killer so i tend to avoid them, sure they may be instant lobbies but i dont wanna play against a bunch of tryhard swf sweats while i just do random killer wheel to have fun
My late night games as Purple killer I tend to end up against all red ranks like I said, BUT this is where the bad red ranks come in because I generally get 2-4 kills and maybe one game per night out of 10 they just abuse me, teabag and all escape... I’ll take those odds. Then I close chat and leave for my next game before risking getting ripped on in chat.

Funny you mention, because I think that's EXACTLY it honestly. I'm playing on the west coast, and honestly I haven't seen a survivor try to heal at a pallet with no purple add on health kit since Self Care was nerfed. The only early pallets I face are when I play Doc, Clown, or Freddy. Also I'm currently rank 10 and ONLY face red to purple ranks survivors unless SWF is also present and brought a surprise guest.
That's exactly why I wanted to know region and time. Rank, doesn't so much matter to me. And I wasn't calling an indictment on your ability to reach red or anything, so please don't think that.
Nope I didn’t take it that way, I agree region/system/time do matter... from everything I have seen the European and Russians are absolutely sweaty tryhards 100%

Those survivors got manhandled super hard. He played at a much higher level than them the entire game, and yet if he made even one more mistake in the early game, it was entirely possible that all or almost all of them could have escaped.
First, devs need to fix the many awful maps (why is Yamaoka still a map...?), and then go from there. He would have been able to pressure them better on some of the decent maps. On Yamaoka, even though he destroyed them, and played leagues better, they still nearly won. And they did nothing special that game. If matchmaking gets fixed, that kind of game will be the norm in every red rank game. Imagine if he wasn't billy.
He hit at least four??? Trees or rocks outside of chases just trying to cross the map. Not talking about a couple he hit trying to curve, that’s understandable.
And I hate to be that guy but he had no gen slowdown perks, I know we don’t all wanna play the same four meta perks every game but if you play at high ranks you need to being a high rank build otherwise you don’t get to complain. It’s like if the Chiefs has showed up at the super bowl without scouting the 49ers, oh wait you mean we have to try hard to win that’s dumb.

I don't want this to come out wrong, but I'd love to know what time zone you play in as well as what system, because you will never hear that coming from a PS4 player. The culling usually begins at around 5pm, that's when survivor mode activates. Also, the average pool of survivor is getting better anyway, Solo survivor isn't that great of a hindrance if you are actually independently good at survivor in my opinion anyway... I'm rank 7 and survive, oh, maybe between 60- 75% of my games? But I don't play SWF especially now because I'm wait in lobby 60 minaphobic.
Now to be fair I do only play against red ranks.... But to be fair I'm currently rank 10, so yes, quite a few games can and have gone like this, even tho I still get my occasional 4K still and usually earlier in the day I can generally do fine. Maybe I'll upload games again and start sharing what I find while playing weaker killers (Although I'll say this... I get results with Legion quite often, and can still 4 iri with him, that travel speed and distance actually brings up a good point about one of the precieved worst killers).
If you don’t wanna believe me or think my situation is a one of, watch OhTofu okay 9pm same region at red ranks and watch the survivors he goes against. He’s constantly saying things like, “not to be rude but these survivors clearly don’t belong in red,” so maybe you’re just lucky to have all good survivors where you’re from

I play rank 1-2 survivor on PC and 8-ish killer so that is also against red rank survivors most games, eastern US. And the things you see survivors do is crazy like self care in a corner against sloppy butcher, self care against legion with no thanat, following a chase around without even having a flashlight to make a save, camping shack pallet and dropping it 20 seconds into the game, dropping a supper safe pallet and running before the killer even starts to break it and on and on

Those guys were pretty ######### and still got to the point they did. The whole discussion is look how hard he had to sweat against survivors that weren't even that good using TOP TIER killer Hillbilly. I mean give me a break, how many times did those survivors literally give up the one shot?
Not at all, an optimal team with toolboxes and any looping ability Otz gets zero kills. But that type of team is so rare, I mean I know all killers like to use the excuse of “SWF deathsquad,” because I used to do it myself. Then you start realizing that those teams aren’t common at all even at red ranks.

Nothing gets you a free escape against camping imo, I'm pretty sure at that point it's only hook trading.
A team of BT and DS users can force the escape if none of them are on death hook yet. But that’s mostly a coordinated team thing, if you’re solo chances are at least 1 teammate bails immediately to secure their escape

Here's how I think it works...
As survivor:
1 survivor dc=1 gen to be completed in-game
2 survivor dc=3 gens to be completed + safety pip
3 survivor dc=4 gens to be completed + single pip
Killer dc=safety, single, or double pip depending on the match length.
As killer:
1 survivor dc=5K BP
2 survivor dc=10K BP + safety pip
3 survivor dc=15K BP + single pip
4 survivor dc=20K BP + double pip
So Iri hatchet for guaranteed PIP? No thanks.

Here’s the thing, if you aren’t as good as “insert streamer here,” then maybe you shouldn’t be red rank like them?
I have a job and life so I’m happy in the purple or green ranks.

Can't blame them for doing challenges. Not everyone wants to just jump in, abuse the killer for 5 minutes and leave. A lot of people want the free BP from challenges, and the lore. Plus, the extra Rift progress.
I do the challenges too, for sure! But they don’t need to finish them all today the new one doesn’t come out for two more weeks.
If the challenge is heal 5 people I’ll get it through normal play, no need to sandbag the team to get it all at once self caring in a corner through sloppy butcher.

When 90% of Nurse you face are bad and the other 10% are no better than Freddy, Billy, Spirit you need to wonder if maybe Nurse just isnt as good anymore. I would rather make my decisions on killers based on experience than that mythical 5000 IQ epic god gamer Nurse i hear about in the forums.
Dont get me wrong, Nurse is still good and pre nerf Nurse was amazing but after the nerf i havent faced any god Nurses and the ones that did give me a hard time were on the level of Freddy.
heres how I determine my tiers, you’re given a chance to win a million dollars if a player gets 4K with the killer you pick... one game any bulls who do you pick? I take Nurse and it’s not even close, you’re telling me you’d have more faith in Scottjund or Tofu for example getting a 4K with Freddy?

If Myers has infinite EW3 that pretty much puts him way above Wraith in terms of chase potential and map pressure. His strongest build is going to be better than Wraiths.
Like I'm not saying Wraith is a bad killer with my tier list, I'm saying he is quantitatively weaker than all the killers above him.
Infinite Myers doesn’t scare me oddly, generally you only have 2 gens left when he gets his power and he’s still loopable

If true I agree, no sympathy. If you’ve depipped/smurfed so you can bully weak survivors you’re getting what you deserved. And if you are only low rank because “I haven’t played in a while,” you should still be able to perform better than this.

Mechanically though he has nothing to pressure survivors with.
If you took the absolute STRONGEST build for every killer, he would still be about there because every killer above him has a much stronger build they can do.
Like anything Wraith has that makes him stronger, Freddy and Spirit have to make them damn near unbeatable.
Tier lists are about relative strength between characters.
Wraith with his speed can pressure gens better than most killers, toss on a speed addon and it’s even better.
If I had money riding on it I would take him over Clown, trapper, legion and Myers for sure
-
Not a lot I dispute except I think Warith is higher, not top 3 like Tru had him but he’s strong if played correctly with almost any addons
-
Uhm, capitalize on the rank 3 who’s only 7 ranks above you... EZ game, baby killer, git gud and all that other stuff that people will tell you.
But seriously I have been on the survivor side of this for weeks now and it’s not fun. I’m sorry but seeing the killer only able to get 1-2 hooks the entire game is not rewarding, people who feel that is fun gameplay I feel so bad for you.

Oh it's very obvious, a monkey could make red rank survivor right now, they definitely didn't play like red ranks at all.
I’m red rank actually right now hovering between rank 1-2, and I will be the first to admit I don’t deserve it. I’m not a very strong looper at all, but I do make smart saves and do gens so I guess that’s something. But I don’t consider myself anywhere near the best which is what rank 1 should be for.
I don’t even play survivor that much but it’s almost impossible to depip so it’s just 0, +1 or +2 every game until you’re red. Then the reset only forces you to pip 5 times to get back there I think?

so bland and dumb...i dont see what survivors get out of this mindless #########
Winning, that’s what they get. They have practiced looping and learned which loops are strongest so they have become accustomed to safety. When something takes away that feeling they can either adjust and learn another play style OR whine and call for nerfs
-
Any killer that cannot be looped for at least 5 minutes is OP clearly. There is a reason people like @ppo8820 complain most about nurse, spirit, Freddy and now doc... they do not play by the base formula
- see killer coming
- head to safe loop
- proceed to loop three times then move on to next safe loop during pallet break
- rinse repeat
-
@PigMainClaudette said:
In terms of raw power, and maximum potential, Nurse. The ability to completely ignore terrain is just so strong in general.
Freddy is also extremely strong, since he has the ability to close loops off and apply map pressure.
Spirit does have great mobility and the ability to mind-game like few other killers.
Billy, though, is what I would say is the most accessible and stronger than the other 3 I've listed with less effort. While I do believe that the Spirit, Freddy and Nurse are stronger, Hillbilly is simply easier to pick up and do well with. You don't have to devote as much time to do as well. People have flamed me for this opinion, I don't care any more. It is MY opinion and one that I have come to after lots of play and consideration.
I agree that he has the ability to just overwhelm a team, especially if a few of them are not good loopers. And he doesn’t require as much practice/understanding as the Nurse or spirit

Nerfs hurt her more than people realise. People have been under the impression that Nurse is the god killer for so long that its impossible to see it differently. Most Nurse players are mediocre at best and the few that are competent arent nearly as oppressive as they used to be. She is still a really good killer but not what she used to be.

I did pre - nerf. Not anymore. An earlier poster said either you pressure the map or you pressure a survivor. You can't do both anymore with these "updated" add-ons and now a cooldown on top of fatigue? You will never convince me these nerfs are helpful in anyway.
noone argues that she was nerfed, but you are honesty saying you think she isn’t the best killer right now still?
-
@Quol said:
Freddy.
Sounds are bugged which screws over Spirit way more than you think and Nurse has such a high skill ceiling that most Nurse players completely suck.
They asked which killer is strongest though, that’s still Nurse. If you’re asking which killer is easiest for anyone to just pick up and “win,” with them yeah Freddy is one of the best at least.
-

It would have been Nurse but she's dead as hell now so Spirit takes the top spot easily. The only thing good about Nurse is her cosmetics now.

I completely agree with you both. But last time I told someone that Nurse was the best, albeit the most difficult to master, I was met with a barrage of replies along the lines of "Nurse is the worst killer, they trashed her, I've been a Nurse main for X hours and now I hate playing her, just look at her kill rate" etc. So I'm a little wary of expressing that opinion now!
People who used to be a Nurse main and now say she’s trash... that means they used to do Omega blink Nurse or 4 blink nurse every game and relies on her OP addons.
-
To be fair that is wi this is the range of 6, as survivor I’ve had games with all red rank teammates against rank 15 killers over and over again I feel so bad for them barely managing 1-2 hooks all game. And it’s not fun for me because half the time my teammates do a chase so long the gens get done without me even seeing the killer.
But then I see streams playing rank 1 kill against rank 12-15 survivors.
So red survivors play green killers and green survivor play against red killer... glad they’re hiding ranks so we’ll never know how bad it is again.

"Okay so let’s be honest here, 3-4 man SWF are common maybe... but these death squads people talk about that optimally hammer out gens, body block, use BT and DS perfectly, etc are very rare."
You don't have to be a 4man SWF death squad to rick roll killers at rank 1. Even just a decent 4 SWF group that is semi competent can fit the critera with how lop sided maps are.
"What happens more often is people losing and deciding that the team was super sweaty optimal SWF. When in reality they aren’t as good as they think or had a couple missed opportunities that cost them momentum."
When you say "more often" what are you basing this on? Do you have a video compilation or are you assuming?
"I say this because I used to do the same, I NEVER lost a fair game it was always busted perks, addons and sweaty SWF. Then I started paying attention to my gameplay and realized I wasted time on chases, lost mind games, and other mistakes."
I rewatch my games against those groups and look at all my games as even an entirely solo survivor where the killer got destroyed regardless of ending chases extremely fast. They lose to us random solo's a lot because we were simply efficient in holding M1 on gens, not because they got outplayed a lot. 30 second chases sure, that's costing you, but if most chases are sub 15 seconds and they're still getting destroyed there's an issue.
Watch streamers, like almost any streamer that plays killer and pay special attention to their losses.
For a specific reference involving myself Whenever I play against a TTV I usually follow their link AFTER the game and watch a replay if they have it.
One played spirit and his remarks all game were, “these guys are obviously all together,” well actually solo, solo and a two man SWF.
“They must be stream sniping they always avoid the grab,” nope sorry sir but two of us actually had Spine chill which I always run base.
“Look at this SWF meta squad.” I checked the after match screen and two players didn’t even have an exhausting perk. Only myself ran DS and literally ZERO had Adrenalin or BT.

I don't like perks you can only use once and in very particular scenarios, so I rarely carry Unbreakable. The majority of the time I do not get slugged so the perk never comes in handy. Then half the time I do get to use it, it accomplishes very little because I'll go down again soon after. Once in a great while it'll save the day and those times are great, sure, but usually I just end up wishing I had equipped something else.
Same goes for DS, really.
I see what you mean, although frankly I almost always get use out of DS especially now getting matched up against lower killers IF they catch you they wanna tunnel.
-
It’s not just how often you use it, it’s what a big swing it is when you do use it. Two people down, one on hook and one being chased. You pop up with unbreakable, unhook someone and then all three of you group heal really quick. That shifted the game so much it’s ridiculous.
Compare that to a perk you use every game like we’ll make it. Yes we’ll make it cuts your heal time in half but most cases that isn’t a game changing amount of time.

@mmain said:
I agree. I only play survivor. There are times killers do things I really hate. The thing is most of the time those things are the direct result of something a survivor did.
One of your examples is the one that annoys me the most. Survivors that think they absolutely positively have to pull someone off the hook as quick as possible with the killer standing right there. People on this forum justify that all the time by saying they just can't leave another survivor hanging. Leaving another survivor hanging can actually be very good strategy, especially against a killer that is going to camp.
Even if we ignore that fact the other thing is you do not have to pull someone off the hook immediately. If you wait a few seconds the killer just might go away if no other survivors come running up. That allows you to get bloodpoints, rescue your teammate, and both of you get away without either of you taking a hit. You would think a rescue where you both get away safely would be the preferable outcome, but apparently there are lots of survivors that simply can't wait a few seconds. They need the immediate gratification of pulling someone off the hook even if didn't actually help anything in the long run.
Yep, I play both sides and can’t tell you how many times I got called a camper as killer because I KNEW someone was right in the area. I didn’t suspect, I knew because I saw them as I was carrying to the hook or saw scratches. I’m sorry, I’m not leaving when I know you’re right there I will circle a couple times to find you.
if you wanna be smart in that situation let the killer see you, then dip while his back is turned during the hook animation. Bang you bought everyone at least 30 seconds of free gen time

I won’t play without it right now. I also don’t put teammates in bad spots with unhooks unless I have no other choice. If the killer is camping and I’m the only one there or they’re close to dying I’ll get them off and try to body block at least give them a shot.

For all the talk of camping and tunneling and NOED and instadowns ruining the game, i swear its other survivors who do the most damage.
Just had a game against pig. Spawned in with a tap. Got half a gen done. Piggy comes she chases him because i was long gone. Got about a 3rd of another gen done when she starts chasing me. Ran her for probably 30 to 45 seconds. Puts a trap on me brings me to another hook. She had iron grasp. My bar was almost full before she got me to a hook. 1st gen popped as i was hooked.
Nea unhooks me when piggy was like 20 meters away. No borrowed time. Piggy of course chases me and i try to loop but got greedy. Downed under a pallet. Piggy chases someone else i recover under the pallet. Someone hiding behind rock as pig comes to pick me up. Stops above me and gets pallet stunned. Breaks pallet and hooks me. Before she could walk away nea again saves me. Back on hook and dead.
Yes i made mistakes. Yes piggy didn't have to go after me but why would she not?
So sent gg to piggy and moved on. Just thought i would share this little anecdote.
you make a good point, the smart play for Pig was to down you and either get quick kill or get DS out early. I don’t berate killers for making smart plays if I wanna be mad at anyone it would be my teammates but I still don’t say anything.

Although I can have fun as a survivor and not survive if I got the team out and had some good chases.
As killer I want to have hooked a bunch of people and won a lot of mind games. I would need to have killed a couple of survivors or I will feel like I lost. I want to feel as tho I really made the game scary and challenging to the survivors.
That part about being scary to survivors, yeah I like that! Even if they escape I want them to think, "dang that was close that Killer is pretty good I wouldn't wanna play him every game." I don't want them thinking I'm a potato they can just abuse.

i’m so conflicted on this because of how toxic the community is. You have fun as killer and don’t get a 4 man, most of the time you’ll get toxic messages about how bad you are.
you try and get 4 killers, you’re a camper, try hard, etc.
Same for survivor if you escape you gen rushed and you’re sweaty.
I definitely have more fun with my friends because we just enjoy the game, but solo queue and killer matches i have more fun winning since it’s more toxic lol
You aren't kidding, I had a game where I killed three survivors and they had one gen done so far. The last one got hatch and end game chat all of them posted (being serious) things like "get rekt," "too EZ,"

I’ve always considered myself some sort of hybrid. I like to win and will play the game as such, but I may not run what would be considered “optimal” or “meta” or anything. It depends on what I feel like running but, either way, I’m gonna try to win.
Yeah, this is how I feel. Whatever killer I bring or whatever perks I run I'm going to do my best. But I wanna screw around with some weird setups or play a certain way to "feel like a killer/survivor."
I haven't seen too many horror movies where someone tries to get the killers attention and run circles around a truck for 3 minutes.
And as a killer I have more fun playing sneaky or stealthy than just running after someone.

I don't see how a skill system could help a game where they constantly release challenges that encourage teammates to grief each other. The data will be heavily skewed.
But they use those games to determine "kill rates," well duh of course a killer will get 3.25 kills per game when 2 survivors are trying to loot 4 chest each, one has to drop 10 pallets in one game and the other is the only person actually trying to do gens.

An MMR system simply can't work in a game like this, so I'm really not looking forward to this change. It's gonna be even worse than it is now. It's not the fact that the devs might mess it up, it's the fact that I know for sure it won't work, because it's just way too difficult to even implement an MMR system into a asymmetrical multiplayer game like DbD in the first place. Recently they've been going way too far with taking the community for granted and just throwing things at their game to see what sticks. Literally all they need to do to improve matchmaking is to revert the SWF changes and the game will be automatically so much better, but this has never crossed their minds...for some reason. Instead they've resorted to coming up with more ludicrous solutions to simple problems.
If reverting matchmaking means going by the lowest rank player I disagree, or was it by average survivor rank?
I don’t think I agree with either of those options as a rank 1, 1, 1 and a 20 would be matched up against a rank 5-6 killer even that is a gross mismatch when it comes to looping. Plus if the 20 is an alt the killer wouldn’t even have an easy down to use for pressure

- BHVR adds ranks in Lobby - People called out the ######### MM system (everyone knew already but this gave concrete proof)
- BHVR Removes seeing lobby ranks, nothing changes as the cats out of the bag and people quickly notice the rank disparity more
- Leaks reveal Ranks being removed in upcoming patch - only thing missing from patch following backlash
- MMR-style system announced - won't see other player's rankings

Right, and all the white knights were on the forums “see what leak was wrong BHVR Didn’t remove ranks.”
Do they really think waiting a few weeks still doesn’t look obvious?

It was never competitive. It has always been a casual game.

BHVR has never been about "fair".
For example, this is why they nerfed ruin:

I mean, it's not for sure...but remember when instablinds were a thing and then Mcote got bullied in that game as Hag by instablinds? Like 2-3 weeks later, instablinds were nerfed.
Then this happens...and a month later, RIP ruin.
🤣
I can’t see the video, what happens does he miss like 20 skillchecks
