@Vietfox Oh, I was talking about playing a game with a survivor that's a twitchy.
@Theluckyboi When people have name.ttv it's to find them on twitch, I believe.
@Delfador I may be looking for correlation, too. Just wondering what other people's experiences are when they have a game where they're playing alongside a twitchy. Like one that advertises it in their name. -

I still don't quite agree with that. If survivors were meant to have just one health state, they'd just die on first hook and often tunneling and camping keeps everyone else from getting points and pips, too. And while survivors are the opponents of killers, the fun of both sides is important. My biggest issue is that the victim in the situation is basically losing pips and points because of what someone else did. I also don't find it all that fun to be chased the entire time I'm in the match.
Yeah, some people need to learn when to give up and switch to an easier target. Typically out of a group of 4, there's always 1 or 2 that aren't that great in the chase aspect.
That is why the tunneling discussion is a tricky one. It is all a matter of perspective. Case in point. You mention fun for both sides is important. I disagree. If you are my opponent, I am not worried about your fun. I am worried about either escaping you or killing you. Simple as that. Neither of our opinions are wrong. We just view the game differently.
Thank you for this wonderful discussion and listening to my point of view on the topics. It was a refreshing change.
When I'm a killer, I want it to be fun. When I'm a survivor, I want it to be fun. That's what I mean when I talk about fun. Or more like I want something fair as it doesn't feel fair to be punished for another person's mistake.

TLDR: A "first hook" rescue should automatically have a 10 second borrowed time effect (that would stack with the perk) to discourage camping/tunneling and reduce toxicity in the game.*EDIT: I've also suggested in a comment further down a benefit to killer- "It would be cool if killers got double sacrifice blood points for hooking a different survivor from the one they hooked last."
The killers will just chase after you for the duration. They already do that for BT.
I also think there should be more benefit for switching targets instead of tunneling the last hooked, though giving survivors more to do while working on gens (like finding fuel cans, etc.) may also help as killers may feel pressured to get the 4k and win.
Perhaps more to punish camping and tunneling point-wise may also be helpful.
Punishment does not work. Hook vultures are proof of that.
Regardless I don't think camping and tunneling should be an easy way to rank up and I've been told by people that it is.
If you rank up from camping, you have had scores of potato survivors in your lobby and you are one lucky camper.
Tunneling is a bit of a tricker topic because exactly what is camping? Is it going after an already injured survivor as compared to that healthy survivor? Take out the weak link. Is it going after that Meg you know was already on the hook twice as compared to that Dwight you haven't hooked yet? Again, weak link. That is not tunneling, that is making a smart play. Now if you spend the entire match hunting that Jake with the flashlight and ignore everyone on gens, yeah that is tunneling and no, you wont rank up that way.
I mean I asked someone who was camping and he told me it was an easy way of obtaining pips. I don't know how it actually is as I don't camp. I'll apply pressure if someone farms behind me, but that's basically it. Camping is boring imo for both sides.
I mean, I get that, but it's also making it likely the tunneled person doesn't get that much points as they're spending the entire game running from the killer. They don't get to do gens or go for saves. A lot of times it'll affect everyone's points and it often isn't the survivor's fault. If I'm playing solo and someone just happens to farm me, I'm ultimately the one punished for the act of another. There's little to no way to tell they'd do that ahead of time, either, unless you see them doing it in the match. That would involve avoiding being caught, though. The farmers are often following around the hurt people to make sure they get the unhook. And yeah. XD It'd be better to go after someone who aren't currently in their element.
First off, I realize in my second point I accidentally said camping when I meant tunneling. I apologize.
I agree camping is completely boring for both sides, and it is a tactic I rarely use. But it is a tactic I have used. I have no shame admitting it.
With the old ranking system, camping did benefit a bit more for ranking. With the current embelm system, camping highly reduces your chances to pip unless the survivors are idiots and feed the killer. Survivors should be able to get done at least 2 gens if not 3 in the time of a full camp. They should have gens 3-5 being worked on. That said, if the first survivor tries to free themselves, slips on struggle or suicides, it benefits the killer and rewards the camp.
Tunneling to me is that tricky topic.
As a survivor, I both hate and love tunneling. If the killer is somewhat skilled, it provides a very fun and tense experience. If the killer is very skilled, yeah it sucks because they got me dead to rights. Evasion is not my strongest skill. If the killer is weak, two loops and a nice timed pallet and I am gone. Now as a killer, I have no issues at all with proper tunneling. Take at the weak target. If you are injured, I am on you. If you got unhooked, sorry for you but you are going back up. My goal is to remove as many survivors out of the game as I can as quickly as I can. Yeah it sucks for the survivor, but this is not a co-op game, it is a 4 v 1 PVP game. Survivors are my opponents, not my BFFs. I want you hooked and dead. Sorry. The biggest issue with tunneling is killers who over tunnel and do now know when to break chase. You have to know when to just give it up. Esp for lower ranked/newer killers, this is a hard thing to learn. Also added is the extreme tunneler. The killer who spends all game tunneling that one survivor who was unlucky enough to bring in the flashlight or shirtless David. Theses killers have a pathological need to hunt down and destroy this target for their unknown sin and completely blow up their game. These people scare me.
I still don't quite agree with that. If survivors were meant to have just one health state, they'd just die on first hook and often tunneling and camping keeps everyone else from getting points and pips, too. If Killers rank up by camping, it's because Survivors fed them. There's no reason a camper should get more than one kill - if they even get the one.
What you call "tunneling" is really called "going for the weak link" or "playing efficiently" or "playing smart". If you see a generator at 90% and another at 0%, you don't go for the 0%, do you?I don't know how many times I have to say this, but it's more akin to looping a really strong tile over and over than a gen. Generators involve a computer entity that doesn't have feelings and doesn't obtain points from things they do in the match. If you loop a killer all game and they get ######### for points 'cause you kept going to OP loop points where they have little to no hope of catching you, that's similar to someone being chased after being hooked. The only thing is, killer has full control. You're ######### out of luck if someone farms you or if you have no good loop spots nearby you and the other person doesn't try to take a hit or the killer's attention.
TL;DR Camping is akin to looping. Both include actual players while gens do not.

Regardless, it's still possible to catch them. If you have issues with the perks you have to bring, you could always bring in nice add-ons to make up for it. There's already crows when survivors go afk. Additionally if a survivor is looking for the hatch and it isn't open, they may be checking common places that it spawns and it may be good to check around those.
I'm pretty sure "holding the game hostage" refers to situations where you can't finish the game without d/cing.

No thanks. As a survivor, I often like the ultra rares as they add a different challenge.
Also they nerfed BNP and the purple "instant blind" flashlights, pretty sure.
-
Bring Whispers and you'll know what area they're in if you're having issues like that. I don't believe that's actually holding the game hostage as you can in theory find them and end the game by killing them.

Usually in games being toxic means to tbag or something that isn't necessary, and doesn't help us win, but we do anyway. Though that still applies here, DBD has the extra layer that some things that are considered low skill yet too strong are also toxic (AKA camping takes very little skill but is very strong). This is probably because they're not really fun for either side, making them a bit 'try-hardy'.I've been using up flashlights on my feng recently to prestige her, and even though out of like 20 games i've only got one flashlight save, i'm being face camped most games, with messages in the chat after like "toxic [BAD WORD]" or "click the flashlight and you die". I'l admit, they used to be too strong, and if you knew how to use them it was abuse as the killer couldn't hook anyone downed in an open area, but since the constant nerfs, how can you use them as an excuse to ruin both their game and your own, by standing afk in front of a hooked person until they die. I think people need to reconsider what they think is toxic, as i get if someone tbags, they probably deserve to be camped, or if your losing and you need that advantage, but why would you ruin both your game and their's (when yours was going fine) just because you're against an item that isn't even that strong anymore... You're living in the past
Pick a flashlight and your escape rate in my game has just drastically decreased.
I dont bother what you call it, I simply dislike playing against flashlight users, so I remove them from my game asapFlashlights are actually really helpful to letting another survivor know you're following them. Otherwise, I don't usually use it seriously when I bring them and I haven't really noticed any more camping/tunneling because of the use. I mean, killers will camp/tunnel for anything. I legit had someone chase me down once 'cause I was a Dwight (daily) and he really didn't like Dwights. It's whatever.

Adrenaline isn't more broken than DS as it's massively situational. It's like saying Unbreakable is OP and more problematic than DS 'cause someone was slugged and got up. It is a strong perk, but it's only good for end game. If they're injured and the last gen isn't done yet, that makes them an easy target. I would say don't get greedy when you see two injured people. Don't slug one to go after the other and just hook them, then chase. They actually have to get to end game for it to slow you down, though. With DS, just having one (or multiple) present can massively hinder and slow down the killer. So, it's more or a problem.

You mentioned blocking a hook as a toxic element. Is that how the majority of the community sees it?I know for a fact a lot of survivors like to Tbag or taunt or try and make fun of you. When I find one of those and I end up downing them I will mostly camp them and I know their friends will stop doing anything to try and save them. It’s a win-win situation for me, no gens done and one less annoying survivor.
Toxicity is real in this game and I would go as far as to say that some players go into the game only to be toxic, because they do nothing else (some streamers are the best example of this).
If a congo line denies me a hook, then im not a friendly killer anymore.....
They're basically just killing themselves when they do that, though.
-
I'm not toxic and I still get camped and tunneled.
edit: Blocking hooks isn't toxic. You're a bit too sensitive if you actually think someone taking a hit before you get the person on a hook is toxic.
-
I'll say I'll stay on hook as long as possible if last is camping hatch.HURRI_KAIN said:Conversely, it's a team game, shouldn't the 3rd person get extra BP if they are successful in allowing the 4th to get the hatch? It's like an unspoken rule now among good survivors to allow the 4th a chance to get the hatch if it's spawned. Why not reward them for helping the team?
-
You can actually nod and shake your head already. It's where you face the camera.HURRI_KAIN said:Report for helping the killer. I actually had this happen a few days ago.
Killer Michael - Had Dying light on me.
I did 3 of the 4 generators that were completed.
I healed and had a couple saves, while staying hidden from killer (because of Dying light debuff on me)
Then down to two people, I tried to get the last gen and the other last survivor found me started helping as well. Michael came to the basement, I got in a locker, the other survivor just stood there, got hit by Michael, then Pointed to me, and Michael hit him again (foolish move on killer's part, he should've checked the locker) I ran and escaped.
Michael slugged him and he proceeded to crawl after me leading the killer. I let him bleed to death, found hatch and escaped. Then he actually messaged me saying I didn't do anything all game! LOL.I told him, you point out your teammates, you bleed out. That's how you solve that problem.
However ^^ I would like to see another action, say head nodding while pointing to indicate yes or no. It's hard to tell sometimes if someone is saying "go this way" or "don't go this way" or "killer is, or isn't this way".
-
The amount of people attempting to justify and brush away toxic and abusive behavior is atrocious.
-
I've been camped and farmed nearly every game today. So, I can understand where you're coming from, but toxic SWF who don't like the killer for whatever reason are gonna use that to harass the killer. It's 4 against 1 and bias grows in groups.
I'd honestly like if they would create a personal stat for you where you could "+" or "-" players and it would show it on screen and inform you if the killer is a "+" or a "-" I dunno how hard something like that would be, though.
-
@AshleyWB We could also limit how many of the types of perks a build could have if the other is too hard to achieve. For instance, you could take 2/1 purple, 3 green, 4 yellow. Five perks allowed in total. The tiers may need to be based on the final tier, though, as self care is basically the same at all ranks and the strong perks are still strong, regardless of the rank in most cases.
edit: Killer should probably be different as they are often addressing a group of people, so may need the extra help, though that could definitely be something that could be tested.
-
@AshleyWB said:
Maybe if perks were categorized into uses. A miscellaneous perk slot is a option.Maybe if perks cost perk points and the stronger the perk the more perk points you are allowed in your loadout.
Maybe devotion could give you +1 perk point capacity. This would be a really bad change in my opinion but these are options.
Oooo, alternatively they could make perks worth points. You have five slots and something like 5 for point value. Purple are 3, green are 2, and yellow is 1. That way you have one extra slot, but you need to choose what purple perks you would like to bring.

I've gotten moried a lot. Gotta get nice and close to the killers.

I kinda wish it kept count of how many times you've been moried. I kinda wanna know. -
Were you defending the hook at the endgame mark? I would say if you're having issues with pulling someone off and getting striked, maybe drop them on the ground. You can see if they're obsession that way and it would allow you to better protect your hook if more were to foolishly swarm. It's also not against the rules to dribble if the have DS!

Do you play survivor often? I would suggest if you don't to try to play both equally. It'll help you to understand stuff from their perspective and better counter the stuff they do. You can also see from first hand in ways what they're doing fails 'cause I'll say when people swarm like that, it's basically game over in most of the games I play. Fear is only an aspect of the game and really over present when faced with something survivors aren't aware of or when good pressure is applied. You get a lot of fear from newbies as they still haven't played the game enough and less from older players as they often know how to play around with the killer's vision. I don't usually have an issue with someone blocking me and if they do, they're putting themselves at a disadvantage if I choose to chase them. I can understand how facing people like that can be tiring, though.
If you're facecamping a hook and manage to smack someone as they took the person off, try to smack them again. Often when they do plays like this, it's because of BT. I don't think you lose any points from hanging around the hooks. I believe you don't get much by camping, though, but if they're all swarming that would mean none are on a gen (unless it's endgame, then clearly xD) and that would mean hanging around the hook is relatively safe.
To learn how to better counter survivors, you can watch YouTubers who know what they're doing and give good tips. I personally like TrU3 and OhTofu when it comes to tips. OhTofu has a how to series and also does critiques on viewers. Puppers is also quite good along with a few others.

@Ryuhi said:
While I agree, I find it much more survivor centric to be toxic to a killer than vice versa (especially in post game chat.) In terms of gameplay its actually more beneficial for survivors to be toxic than killers, since the toxic interpretations of killer tend to be very damning vs decent players (camping and tunneling) while a lot of the toxic attitudes by survivors are seen as "strategies" to taunt the killer and draw attention away from a gen rush.Killers being toxic tend to be either counter toxicity (like you mentioned) or a killer having a really bad day and wanting to either secure a daily or just be an [BAD WORD] to a specific person. fortunately for the other 3 people in the game, it pretty much gives them a license to wreck that killer in the process so its not as common to see.
Honestly post-game chat can be a massive issue, especially since it creates a 1 vs 4 scenario often. If I see someone flaming a killer who played well, I'll stand up for them. I've also dropped playing people who flamed and that way or told them to chill on it. If people report that sort of stuff, more should be done to ensure they aren't mistreated that way imo. I don't think it's appropriate, even if the killer camped and tunneled and just was mean.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Same thing goes with toxicity. If you want to see less of something, you attempt to make yourself an example of the opposite of it. My point being this isn't just survivor "honor system," but killer, too, as there's things that survivors are expected not to do if they're not being toxic. To be nice and so on. It isn't just a one-sided thing. You can say that survivors are the only ones who can be toxic until you're blue in the face, but I'm pretty sure that's what camping and tunneling is. You're ruining the experience for someone else and if that's not toxic, nothing survivors could do naturally in the game is.Also, the biggest issue in this game is that kids are playing. Children don't know how to react to things and react in negative, childish ways (such as name-calling, etc.).
I don't think I ever said only survivors can be toxic, quite the opposite: I'm asking, why should killers not be toxic when this is what we get when we aren't:

At the time of the game, it was 12:30am, Eastern, on Sunday night/Monday morning. Okay, maybe they were west coast kids, just before bedtime, but it's quite the stretch to think that it's mostly kids when I play primarily during the weekdays and late at night (the times I'm not taking care of my own kids).
Not a single other survivor from that match said a thing, aside from piling on with more toxicity. You said, attempt to make yourself an example, and I do, but what I don't see are survivors calling each other out on being douchebags. That's my point. I see thread after thread complaining about camping and tunneling by the killers, but I don't see them standing up for killers who play the game as fair as possible, and then get crapped on in the post-match chat. After thousands, and thousands of matches in DBD, it's happened to me three times. Three. And I remember each one of them very well, because they are so rare, and those super rare times actually meant a lot to see people who "lost" actually act human after the match.
Now, if a survivor was frustrated and just left, I'm okay with that. I get it. Some matches are super frustrating if for no other reason than RNG didn't go your way, or someone has a lag spike that screws them, or the other survivors made no attempt to rescue them off the hook, or whatever the reason, it can be really frustrating some matches.
So, these are the choices I have as a killer: I can play nice and follow all the survivor rules and have slurs thrown at me after long matches, or I can tunnel the living hell out of survivor after survivor and suffer the same fate, just with less time invested.
Those aren't good options.
What I'm asking for in this thread is a third option, but it requires survivors who are willing to call out their teammates when they cross the line, or make unfounded accusations.
Or, better yet, if the dev's aren't willing to suspend and ban players who throw racial slurs around, and they clearly aren't, then give me the option of turning off post-match chat in my lobbies. I'm honestly sick of it.
I usually call people out when they behave that way. It IS against the rules to behave that way after matches and I legit stop playing with people if they're toxic towards killers, especially when they've done nothing wrong. I've actually made friends standing up for killers who played well, but still got flamed 'cause kids can't handle losing.
I honestly don't complain too much about tunneling and camping anymore. I expect it and am always happy when I see the killer doesn't do both. It's respectable. I also think they should do more to punish (point-wise) camping and tunneling killers and reward switching targets, but that's my opinion. Clearly if they want to do something regarding that, they will.
I don't think it's following the survivors rules, but your own. Do what you feel is right and treat people how you would like to be treated. I honestly think it's better to go for points then for "wins" by killing everyone. I've actually pipped without killing everyone before. You are bound to find toxic people regardless of how you play, though, but you may also find people who appreciate how you play and notice what you're doing. It's a whole maturity thing. Kids think they can get away with it.
If the devs don't do anything, I believe it's against steam rules, too. They shouldn't be getting away with that sort of stuff, though, and I believe they've added extra measures if you have a screenshot.

Report them. That's against the rules to behave that way in the end game chat.

I'm nice to people who are nice to me. You're playing with people at the end of the day.
Nice has nothing to do with it. I'm playing to win, and i'm going to do what it takes to win, period because that's what I find fun. Your fun is not my concern. Mine is; that's all there is to it.
Playing nice would be considering what is fun to the person you're facing, too. It's fine if you don't play nice. That's just generally what killer and survivor rules are centered around.

This has been done, but I agree it should only be for SWF, b/c frankly I'm not interested in sitting around waiting to see their loadout and thus increasing the chances of ending up in their room again only to be tunneled and camped again by the same killer. No, it should affect everyone. We don't know how easy it is to implement otherwise and it only really affects those who just feel like whining about any change. If you don't want to be in the lobby of a certain killer again, just block them. You were probably gonna wait around to flame them, anyway. Doesn't change anything.
I'm on console, How do I block a killer? I'm not aware of this option. I do know that once you reach rank 2 on PS4 killer lobbies are terrible, every other one either steamrolls 3 person teams or DCs, I've gone from one pip away from rank 1 back to beginning rank 2 and back almost daily because of these issues. If the killer DCs it shouldn't affect the survivors pips.
There's articles on how to do it online. I'd assume it'd be the same as PC, but I don't have a PS4, so I wouldn't know. I don't believe it affects the survivors pips on PC when killer DCs, but I dunno about PS4.

Sorry you had to face someone like that.
Not all DS users are like that

There is a 1% of people that use this perk cause they suck (even tho i stopped using it)Most of the time when I see it, it's an obvious crutch for the player that gets them far higher than their skill would suggest, but I suppose that isn't everyone. Some people use it and try to run the killer around. What did you use it for back when you used it?

I love how the OP pointed to farming killers as skewing the survival rate in the Survivors favor, and blatantly ignored the Survivor DCs WHICH ARE WAAAAAY MORE PREVALENT that skew the rate in the Killer's favor. And survivors farming allies for WGLF

You need a TL;DR. Your text is way too long.Nerfs are needed. Chases shouldn't be nearly as long as they are and self-care can attribute to that length. If the chased heals themselves after being hit away, that will prolongue the chase as they need to be hit all over again. When chases are long, a lot of killers will resort to camping and tunneling off of hook to ensure a kill. Self-care shouldn't be nearly as good as it is now, anyway. I still think making SC not hold if you start moving would be best as it can't be used in chase.
What rank is your killer? Maybe spend more time on them. It's best to play both equally so that you can understand stuff from both perspectives.
Respawning hooks and traps are necessary. Without them respawning, people would just sabbo them all and the killer would be without a power (traps) and having to take everyone to the basement from wherever they got downed on the map.
And yes, some perks are useless or less useful. Both killer and survivor has them.
Wiggling is a joke unless you're far away enough from the hook and people take hits. They're increasing the distance between them I do believe.
Oh, did you join the forums 'cause seeing Legion can see people inside the locker pissed you off? o-o lol
Ok. Firstly, no. Most the chases are an average of 30-40 seconds. Just stop. Survivor needs NO MORE nerfs. Killers just need buffs. Legion need some counterplay or a rework but also buffs. Freddy is still waiting for his rework. Leatherface is crying because the devs wont adress him and so on. Self care right now is absolute trash it hurts you so much that you can get half a gen in the time your healing. If a survivor manages to catch 32 seconds (38 if you're running Sloppy butcher) and heal up then you're obviously doing something wrong. Nobody uses Self care in chase. If they have a medkit, you still shouldn't be giving them time to heal.
I don't know how people still think healing needs a nerf.
Well, it definitely doesn't need a buff. I'm glad the PTB isn't going through. A lot of people run it, though, and you get weird looks when you don't run. I usually don't and I get the "pro" players going "uh, why don't you run it?" I get to rank 1 and get points just fine without it, though. I do agree with the buffs and the counterplay.

I don't think changing the ability to hit a survivor as they're jumping through a window is very wise. There would be zero chance to stop the window loopers. Being able to hit survivors as they vault needs to stay.Killers can literally kill a survivor without ever hitting them.
######### are you talking about? No they can't.
I think they're mixing this game with another lol

Isn't that the one you can achieve while body blocking the hook? I haven't gotten it yet. xD Thought I did, but that's okay. Most of those you'll get with time I believe.
The fact is: bodyblocking doesn't count.
The survivor must be on their feet. So basically only farming works for this achievYeah that one is also super picky for the conditions for it to activate in over 600 hours of survivor playing at least I'm not even halfway.
Yeah, I actually didn't realize I hadn't gotten it yet. I'm at 700+ hours, but I'm pretty close.

It should be easy to implement. The only reason they say they didn't is because they don't currently keep track of who lobbies in a SWF or not, but they should be doing that anyway, for many reasons. And it negatively impacts plenty of people, not just 'whiners'... new players, especially, who often learn a lot from checking the killer's perks after they get killed early ("Oh, so THAT'S how they found me.")
You've never really advanced any good reason why it should affect everyone, just "it might be hard to do" which isn't really good enough.
Btw the only way to "block" a killer is by using an outside app that IIRC, the devs don't approve of at all.
As a solo player, I don't mind loosing my ability to see the perks until everyone is out if that means SWF can't abuse knowing perks that haven't activated yet. If newbies wanna know the perks, they should be staying until the end, anyway. Watching other people play and seeing what works and doesn't work is part of learning the game.
Blocking them on steam seems to work fine for me.

Why's that then? If a survivor has the skill/ability/knowledge to have a long chase then why shouldn't it be long? Killers being outplayed shouldn't be something that's somehow removed from the game because of a bunch of whinging.
The issue is a lot of times it isn't based on skill/ability/knowledge. They've done a lot to buff weaker killers and to aid killers who don't have a secondary power that counters loops, but my point in posting is to say killers aren't OP if you know how to play the game, even with the nerfs they've received and honestly self-care is an overrated perk that should have more downsides to use than it currently does.

lol This literally never happens unless the killer deliberately ends the chase and goes somewhere else.
I see people do it all the time. It can be a time waster if the person is decent at looping and can multitask.
-
I've used Unbreakable while the killer was breaking a pallet in front of me lol. It was funny. Also, when you're one of the last and they're trying to get a 4k, it can be nice to have. I don't typically run either, though.

Perks to either avoid or run the killer or perks to better help the team by healing or giving them buffs are honestly better to have than Kindred. That perk is only good when you're on the hook and while playing solo, the last thing you want to be is hooked. I usually treat it as a death as often other survivors won't come over (there's no way to communicate that you need someone to come and that you're not being camped) or you'll be farmed/camped and tunneled.
Still, an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. I do good saves, regardless of what they do towards me. Though I will say I'm tempted to keep farmers on the hook 'cause eff them.

People use shard to buy perks or get some bloodpoint (like me)
It's better to save them up and use them on characters now. Just use WGLF or BBQ and get points that way. They nerfed how much BP you get and it's better to get characters that you otherwise have to pay for than some extra BP.
-
You can also use shards.
