  • I'll start this by saying I don't like NOED. If the killer has NOED, it's quite likely I'll die to it even though I cleansed 4 totems. Sure, that's anecdotal, but it still sucks. However, NOED is the counter to Adrenaline, and I actually see Adrenaline a lot more often than I do NOED.

I wouldn't mind the devs getting rid of NOED and Adrenaline as they are and making them less annoying, but both perks would need to be changed.

It's hard to say what should be done with NOED. Once an exit gate is open, the killer is really weakened. Rather than being a threat, the killer swings their weapon and propels the survivor faster to freedom. A one-hit-down ability brings back the threat part.

  • Meme builds. It changes, there's no specific build I stick to, but I often focus on doing one dumb thing during a match.

  • Being able to have one regular challenge and one master challenge selected at the same time would be nice. Or being able to have one killer and one survivor challenge selected at the same time, because it's so easy to forget when switching roles.

The best solution would be if I could choose, after the match, which challenge I'd like to put progress towards. Because working at one challenge but failing it while succeeding at some other challenge which I didn't have selected is really, really annoying.

It's too much advantage for a fast killer. With Ruin also, it's too much. Killers should have to hunt for their prey not be told where they are all the time.

"Killers should have to hunt for their prey"

Huh? Who's hunting? I like playing hide-and-seek. I go stand in a bush or behind a tree and it's up to survivors to find the EW1 Mikey hiding somewhere on the map. Best way to play. I wish it rewarded BP, but I guess fun gameplay is its own reward.

  • But... Stridor is the counter to Iron Will.

There are four survivors, and all four can theoretically run the same perk. There's only one killer. There's a back-and-forth, but it's a 1v4 so you can't have a bunch of stuff that all 4 survivors can run be stronger than what the killer has, you need the 1 to be about as strong as the 4 combined. Stridor counters Iron Will. NOED counters Adrenaline. Not every perk needs a counter, but when one perk counters another it usually needs to favor the killer.

  • @Vampirox said:

no survivor is dumb enough unless they are new to the game does that, literally no one.

it is a wasted perk slot. for killers it is not especially the high tier killers there is no need for such lengths but they still do it.

Never said it was smart. I was sticking with the example you gave, and Ruin and Pop are like exhaustion perks in that you can use both in the same match but not at the same time. Pop cannot be used as long as Ruin is active. Pop doesn't work with Surge.

In your original statement it sounded like you were speaking technically when you said "Just like how survivors can only use 1 exhaustion perks," but if that's not the case and I'm not allowed to use your own example of exhaustion perks because "no survivor is dumb enough," then I'll compare the gen slow-down perks to survivor second-chance perks. Survivors can and often do run multiple second-chance perks like Decisive Strike, Unbreakable, Dead Hard, Deliverance, and Borrowed Time, which drag out chases and the match in general (and some do stack, you can have DS and UB active at the same time), just like how killers can use multiple gen slow-down perks to drag out the match.

    Edit:

    @ChurchofPig said:

Comparing gen slowdown to exhaustion perks is kind of weird to me. Why aren't you comparing gen slowdown to the gen speedup that survivors get? On a 4 person gen, you can stack a prove thyself with a random toolbox you found in a chest (or brought with you) along with spine chill/resilience (if injured) and be done in like 20 seconds.

I get that's a pretty specific example, but talking about stacking gen speedup to stacking gen slowdown feels more right then "Oh I'm going to compare these perks that deal with chases to these perks that deal with gens and say they're comparable."

On that note, I completely agree with @TragicSolitude on this.

^ Good point. This was posted right after me, and I think it might be making a better point than I just did. Survivor perks, items, and add-ons to speed up gen repair do stack.

  • Survivors can bring multiple exhaustion perks and choose to use one or another. They can't use them both in the same chase, but they can use one in one chase and a different one in another chase. (Not including Sprint Burst, obviously, which would cancel out being able to use anything else other than Adrenaline.)

In the same way, Ruin and Pop don't actually stack. Using Pop requires kicking a gen, and killers can't kick a gen as long as Ruin is active. So, like a survivor bringing Lithe in case there aren't many spots on the map to use Balanced Landing, a killer has Pop in case Ruin gets cleansed 30 seconds into the match.

I could see not allowing Ruin to be active while Corrupt is active, but at the same time most survivors avoid gens while Corrupt is active and will use that time to instead search for totems.

Some people want to play more chill. So to some it appears like they are overdoing it in their playstyle.

    ^ This.

I don't call players tryhards. Well, I don't talk to other players at all, but even if I did. I get it, there are players for whom winning is the goal. But there are other players who are more casual or outright memeing, and it's not either side's fault that the other is playing on a different level, that's on matchmaking.

Half the time I play killer like a blind, deaf slug, and I'll go against survivors where that playstyle is fine and we get some chases and have some fun, but then I have other matches where all the gens are done before I've finished a single chase and hooked anyone, and I get the majority of my points from opening the exit gate without ever even seeing two or three of the survivors. In those cases our playstyles didn't mesh because they were intent on winning not knowing (or not interested in slowing down a predetermined match) that they had a guaranteed 4e from the start. They're decked out with meta perks, offerings, items, and add-ons while I brought like two perks and nothing else, but the survivors didn't know that. The game doesn't tell them beforehand that hey, you're bringing a WMD to a Nerf-gun fight. [[shrugs]] If they were going against another player trying to win, then that amount of effort would've been necessary; it just so happened they went against me, instead.

In short, I think players looking like "tryhards" is more on matchmaking than on anyone's playstyle.

  • Survivors trying to bait the killer to hit them by faking an unhook is fine. That's been a thing for forever.

The problem is when they commit to the unhook and I go for the grab and I just get stuck there with my hand out while they get to finish unhooking in my face. Usually that results in both survivors getting away untouched, but one time the grab actually finished going through after the person was unhooked. #########? How??? That's when you know something is really busted.

  • I usually just kinda roll my eyes and marvel at this game's ridiculous design where one of the best strategies to win is to limit the opposing side's chance to participate as much as possible, and it doesn't even benefit the winning side in terms of points because the devs want there to be a back-and-forth between killer and survivors but the gameplay itself isn't conducive to that, especially not with the busted matchmaking where the experienced side would have to throw in order to give the other side enough time to even try to learn anything.

I don't blame the game for me being bad, I know I'm not great at the game and that's on me, but it is kinda dumb when a match ends quickly and no one even earned 15k. I'd bet money the winning side depipped. What's the point of a match that goes like that? Who benefits? It's a waste of everyone's time.

  • I tried the same thing. You think they'd let you hit them with Corrupt Purge when you've been super friendly, but nope, they almost always scatter. I don't understand why.

To make matters worse, when I did have two survivors close together, the stream would only injure one and not the other because the particle physics and/or latency are absolutely busted for Plague. It cost me the challenge multiple times.

I only finally got the thing when I got so frustrated that for the millionth time Vile Purge hit a survivor and caused the "ew, ick!" animation but didn't change their status to infected I started walking into a wall (as close as I could get to slamming my head into it) hitting it with Plague's weapon that the other three survivors came over to see #########. And even though they too would scatter when I tried to hit them with Corrupt Purge, they did it slightly less than the other groups and that was enough to manage—through multiple tries where I hit two without injuring both because again Plague is [BAD WORD]ing busted—to complete the challenge.

That was last night and even though I usually sleep that stuff off I'm apparently still pissed about how frustrating it was. The devs need to stop making challenges like this. Twice throughout multiple matches, fine, but twice in one match... oh I have some very not nice words I'd like to say to them.

  • It's not worthwhile but I do it anyway. I just can't bring myself to take any character past level 50 if they're not prestiged. It's a sickness, send help.

  • Right now I'm really pissed off at the Plague one, "hit two survivors with one Corrupt Purge stream twice in one match." The number of times I puked on a survivor and it played the animation for "ew, yuck!" but their status didn't change to infected... the number of times I hit two survivors with one Corrupt Purge stream but only one got injured, even if neither was moving... that I didn't throw my controller or just leave the match is a testament to my self control. I really wanted to.

Creating challenges where I have to fight problems in the game as much or more so than I do the opposing team... [BAD WORD] man, sometimes I absolutely hate DbD. I got the challenge done, but like I said, I'm pissed.

  • I got kicked as survivor earlier today on PS4. The devs need to fix whatever's causing this issue. It's not my connection, and I don't like losing everything I earned in a match because their servers or game has some problem.

    • Dying Light 2
    • Succubus
    • Paranoid

The big one is Dying Light 2. Freakin' love the first one. I have a lot of games I already own that I haven't played yet, so I don't pay much attention to upcoming games unless it's a sequel.

  • Yeah, this crap is exactly why I say screw it and run Lightborn 100% of the time. It's just permanently on my killers right now, doesn't matter what survivors have in the lobby. Before dedicated servers, I could counter flashlights just fine. Since dedicated servers, it feels like another thing that's out of my control, like broken grabs and frame drops, and I just don't have the energy to fight against a million stupid things in this game.

  • I don't know about toxic, but I hate going against Hags. The way they play 99% of the time feels like a miserable experience as a survivor.

  • Grabs and Michael's wonky stalking have both been problems since dedicated servers went live.

If I hold down the button continuously while stalking, when I let go the meter can either jump forward or back, so I'll tap the button rather than hold it down. It sucks, and I'd much rather the devs fix the problem, but since they don't know how to program this game for dedicated servers work-arounds are the only thing we have. Tap the stalk button repeatedly to fill the bar and avoid jumping forward or back.

  • Not sure why anyone would be against this idea.

There are already earnable cosmetics/charms in the game. Leatherface has the four survivor masks. There are the prestige cosmetics. And every level of every tome rewards a charm at the end. These items are always available to be earned, and they can't be bought.

  • Uh... hmm. I think it's been well over a year, maybe even two years since I played SWF with anyone.

While I agree that those are issues I the game it mostly has to do with ping from either you or someone in the group. While that's not entirely fair to the survivor it is something that just comes with pvp games like this.

Ping is different. I can recognize lag/latency issues, and those are usually due to their dedicated servers. My internet is good enough that other games give me no issues in that regard.

The frame drops, rather than being related to ping, are caused by optimization issues where multiple things are going on and the processor throws its hands in the air and is like, "Hold on a sec, I gotta figure this out." I used Sloppy Butcher to do a recent Tome challenge and I was so happy to take it off because every time I hit a survivor the game dropped frames. Doc can have framerate issues because of his power, and I know for a while the issue got worse if he was wearing his Hallowed Blight cosmetics (not sure if this actually got fixed or not). And Bloodlust tiering up has been a problem for... like, ever. Even when I play tier 1 Mikey, I think I get frame drops where Bloodlust would tier up if it could were he not in EW tier 1.

  • @mrcdean97 said:

All the killers here acting like the game is so one sided lol. It is. For the killer. Survivors get crazy nerfs all the time and the game is already set up for the killer to win. Maybe try taking responsibility for your own short comings and either play a different killer or play better perks. BHVR favors the killer community and nothing you can say will change my mind. All I have to say is DS

What are you going on about? These console issues hurt survivors, too.

Frame drops on console happen when Bloodlust tiers up, when survivors use DH, when a survivor opens a chest, and when practically anything else happens in the game. As killer, those frame drops mean the survivor literally disappears from my screen. It's an automatic win for them in a chase.

Those same frame drops are a problem when I play survivor. They get me hit in chases, they turn skill checks into automatic fails, and they used to get me killed during second state on the hook.

Console optimization is a problem whether I play killer or survivor. Certain perks, killer powers, and cosmetics make it worse, but there's nothing I can equip that fixes it.

PS5 added the hours played to games. If you can sign in on a friend's PS5 or get your own at some point you'll see just how much this game wasted your life. :)

I have almost a double the hours I thought I had. Sadly there's no other stats but trophy progression can now be seen in percentages.

I have to say, that's some nonsense, if it shows it on the PS5 why can't it just show it on the PlayStation website. Damn Sony's dumb.

The only trophy I don't have is the Skilled Huntress one. I'd love to see my progression on it (it's probably like 10%, so 10 of 100 downs)... unfortunately, I've heard that trophies earned playing on the PS4 don't transfer to the PS5; I'd be starting from scratch. :(

Anyway, it's unlikely I'll be getting a PS5. Sony's new policy of "censor everything!" not only turns me off but has game companies pulling away, too, so if I ever get a next-gen system it'll probably be an Xbox.

Thanks for letting me know, though. :)

  • When I need to relax and de-stress, I go to Dying Light, where I can casually dismember zombies. Good times. There are a few others I'll choose from, too. Maybe I'll pick fruit and go fishing in Animal Crossing, or I'll punch my way through a beat-em-up game like Batman: Arkham Asylum, or I'll screw around in Battlefront II. I recently got a couple Warhammer games that look like explosions of blood punctuated with a bit of dialogue here and there, I bet those'll be fun.

But not Dead by Daylight. Never Dead by Daylight. This game was designed to be grindy and frustrating, not fun, and it certainly doesn't work for relieving stress.

  • I'm on PS4, I can't see any cool stats, no one can see how many hours of my life I've wasted spent on this game. Cosmetics and charms to show off accomplishments would be really cool.

It'd also be nice if we console players could see our stats.

I’m stuck on the Dwight one where you have to hide for a minute in the killers tr. I can’t throw a match to do it lol

A two-story map like The Game is really good for this challenge.

  • Hmm... I don't remember what age I was for the different shows I watched, but I'll go with Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, Batman the Animated Series, Disney's Gargoyles, and Rocko's Modern Life.

  • Weird. I've kinda had the opposite happen: survivors will stand there and motion "Come on," encouraging me to throw knives at them. Which is good, because I'm on a controller so they're not going to get hit with knives unless they stand still.

  • It's unlikely Capcom is putting all their eggs in one basket, especially since back when this killer started being worked on the trailer for RE8 hadn't been released yet and so no one had any idea if fans would take to Lady Dimitrescu.

To capitalize on as many fans as possible, it's more likely the characters coming to DbD will be from the older games. Hell, Capcom probably took into consideration whether or not they should only use characters from the games who appeared in those stupid movies, because yeah, there are a lot of people who only ever saw the movies and didn't play the games.

Smart businessmen bank on nostalgia and a dedicated, pre-existing fanbase; they don't bank on prayers and giantess fetishists.

If the characters coming to DbD are from RE8, then congrats, DbD got used for a quick buck as a second form of advertising, but with the risk that people who play DbD would just buy her and forego RE8 altogether because hey, she's in this game they already own and for way cheaper.

Again, it's more likely we'll see older characters who were in both the games and the movies, because that's how you grab the interest of the highest number of people. It'd be pretty stupid to bring in RE8 characters, because then you're milking the same group of people and you don't know how large of a group that is because even the trailer for RE8 hadn't been released yet when DbD started working on this killer. It doesn't matter who she is or what she looks like or what her background story is, she's a bad choice because she doesn't tick the necessary boxes to be a good representative character for a large franchise celebrating its 25th year.

  • Better the survivors all start together than separated. I like being able to pressure multiple survivors at once rather than only pressuring one and meanwhile three gens pop.

But in general the early game does suck. It's the worst feeling to have multiple generators pop while I've accomplished nothing. I know it's been said that the killer gets stronger as more gens done because the active area on the map shrinks, but that's terrible for killers psychologically because every gen that gets done feels like a failure: it feels like you're running out of time and there's no way you can catch back up and how are you supposed to handle multiple survivors you're just ONE person and how did they get those done so fast what the hell happened [insert frantic stressed-out gibberish noises here].

  • @CluelessWanderer said:

I started using Bloodwarden because I got tired of waiting for survivors to leave. No regrets. The other day a Kate was injured, but teabagging me at the exit gate and she had no idea I was running it until it was too late LOL. So satisfying. Only one of them lived.

It's so much fun doing that. "You don't want to leave? Fine. 'Til death do us part, lover."

  • They're unskilled killers, so that isn't surprising at all.

They're probably inexperienced, so they haven't learned when to drop a chase. They waste a lot of time on one survivor. If they catch that survivor, then their options are to secure at least one kill or to walk away and risk losing everything.

New killers are very likely to run NOED. For one thing, they may not have a lot of perks unlocked, and NOED is a general pool perk. For another, if they do have an actual gen slowdown perk, they may not be able to get much mileage out of it because they can't protect hexes (Ruin) or they don't get enough hooks (PGTW). They're more likely to get use out of NOED because it either slows down survivors by having them cleanse five totems or NOED pops and they get at least one down with it before it's cleansed. It's a safety net for when they have a really bad match.

It sucks that unskilled killers are getting screwed over by matchmaking, possibly more so than usual because of the bugged rank reset. I doubt they're having much fun going up against survivors who are way out of their league.

  • This was the case before the bugged rank reset. Rainbow ranks happen because the matchmaking system prioritizes getting players into lobbies within a timely manner over matching up players with similar ranks. Part of this is because ranks don't necessarily equal skill, so the devs don't put too much weight on them. Unfortunately, this really screws over the unskilled players. Actual skill-based matchmaking is in the works—the devs have been working on it for a long time now—but if and when it'll go live is completely unknown.

I play killer casually. I usually only try to kill if I'm doing a challenge; otherwise, I'm not even concerned with getting hooks. And the matchmaking putting highly skilled and competitive survivors in my matches is just stupid, because they finish gens quickly and escape and they get like... damn near no points for it. Sometimes I'm kinda surprised they don't hold back at least a little to try to get a few altruism/boldness points out of it and avoid depipping, but... I guess they're afraid of getting camped or something? [[shrugs]]

Anyway, skill-based matchmaking needs to come sooner rather than later, because unskilled players aren't having fun getting stomped by skilled players, and for skilled players who want a challenge it's not fun to go up against unskilled or casual players. People just feel like they wasted a chunk of their lives in a queue to not have any fun. People paid time and money for that experience, and people pay to have fun; people get paid to not have fun.

  • The point of running Deerstalker is to slug. A killer who runs Deerstalker will be more likely to slug, and then when they do it'll be easy for them to find you. I ran Deerstalker when I was doing the mori-four achievement. It was great fun to see how hard they tried to hide from me, going into corners and alcoves and what not. Sucked for them.

BBQ can be useful if a killer slugs, but not necessarily. After all, the killer has to both hook someone and the slugged survivor has to be 40+ meters away. There have been plenty of times when I was running BBQ and I didn't see a slug, or I did see the slug but when I got there they were gone (and then we sat on the map for another three minutes while they finished bleeding out. good times, right? 🙄).

Anyway, like I said, when I was doing the mori-four achievement, I ran Deerstalker. Deerstalker is preferable when the killer's purpose is slugging over hooking. As a survivor, I don't want the killer running Deerstalker. Deerstalker means I have less chance of hiding when I'm slugged, and it means the killer is less likely to hook anyone. If the killer's not hooking, I'm not getting the altruism points from unhooking, and I'm not getting to work on those unhooking challenges. BBQ means the killer is hooking and I have a chance of hiding from it.

  • A BP boost of some sort during the trial would be good. Definitely nothing that can be detected by the opposing side, though.

Unfortunately those come in short supply, not everyone can play well without kindred in a full solo squad. I think the devs can give solo players a little something to help, not entirely sure what tho.

A chase indicator might be good. Also a little wheel that lets the player choose from a few pre-written messages, like "Come get me you bleeping bleeps, I'm tired of being on this hook!"

3 hits in tier 1... I was one of the few who didnt get reset all the way to rank 17 also I dont have DD on him.

Oof, I'm sorry, man, that sucks.

  • Easiest thing to do with that is put on Myers and stay in Tier 1 until you get three hits (while running Dark Devotion).

But yes, they need to be clearer; a bunch of their challenges are very unclear.

  • I'm a rank 16-15 solo survivor and I'll find myself in matches with red ranks. It's not just SWF, the whole system is messed up because it prioritizes putting players into matches quickly, and the longer the queue is the more likely it is to see ranks all over the place within one lobby.

Sure you can. Create an secondary account log into the game from a different station than you normally play. Create a custom game and join it with your main account which is friends with your secondary account. Memorize and practice the map to your hearts content. Or get one friend to do it with that isn't you.

Oh, cool. How do you make a secondary account on PS4? I have other accounts but I don't know of a way to share the PS+ subscription.

  • Yeah, I like the fast queues in the evening. I dunno how these guys have the energy to be so competitive about matches, though. I'm like half with-it and it's like, "Wow, how did that survivor get way over there... ? Is that the one I was chasing?" I dunno, gotta be weird for the red ranks to get a yellow rank killer who's less likely to try to kill them and more likely to ask, "Hey, when did four gens get done?"

Matchmaking really needs to get fixed. This is bad for everyone. I'm the killer newbies should be practicing with, not the one red ranks should be depipping against.

The rank disparity isn't quite as bad earlier in the day, but it's still there.

Because anyone can write their own SCP, it's usually about as good as your average fan fiction...

It's like creepypasta, there are a few good ones in there amongst all the garbage.

  • I can only assume the devs don't have enough confidence in their game to believe that players will devote a lot of time to it if the grind isn't super crazy. But of course the grind chases away a lot of players, soooo... [[shrugs]]

I mean, the perk tiers are ingrained into their system, so it's harder to get rid of those. They did remove a bunch of useless offerings from the pool a long while back, but then recently they added some new offerings. Every time a new realm is created a new offering for it is added, making it absolutely ridiculously expensive and sometimes nearly impossible to get a desired map offering. Because of perk tiers, just trying to get tier 1 of a preferred perk is painful. On top of that, BP rewards per match are absolute crap.

Too many problems in the game are band-aided over with perks for this to be okay.

  • Lots of things in this game are unfun. For both sides. It would take a massive rework of the game's mechanics to fix themt, though.

For survivors, it's not fun to be slugged, dangling on the hook, holding M1 on a gen, tunneled, or camped. It's not fun if you try to play as a team but a lone wolf or potato ruins your chances, and it's not fun to be the odd one out with an SWF who uses you like a red shirt. As a killer, it's stressful to be up against four players when there's only one of you and gens can pop pop pop like a bag of Orville Redenbacher's.

I have no suggestions for fixing these things, because a lot are deeply rooted in the game's mechanics. It's unlikely we'll see the devs tear it up and start again, adding the kind of structure that would ensure all players, win or lose, get to participate and have a good time and not feel like they wasted a chunk of their lives in the queue just to be miserable.

As is, there's no structure, and because of that player agency is important: in a 1v4, hobbling the tactics of the "1" will have massive repercussions, and things will go from bad to worse if players who are struggling against the 4 feel even more frustrated by limited options.

The devs can make more perks to encourage leaving the hook and not tunneling. It's not a fix or anything, but every little bit helps.

A better tutorial that teaches killers about pressuring gens would be a step forward, too. Nothing in the game helps killers learn to pressure gens. The intuitive way to play is "find one survivor, tunnel, camp, find next survivor," and if that strategy works even some of the time then killers are just going to keep doing it and be confused when it fails. Most players don't come on the forums or scour YouTube for guides. A halfway decent in-game tutorial is long overdue.

  • The devs want players to be able to make all these different choices in how they play (both killer and survivor): they value player agency too much. Sure, having choices is important, but structure helps make sure everyone has a good time. Most games try to balance the two, but not here. DbD players have too many ways to make everyone else in a match miserable.

  • You report the offenders in-game, and you also submit a ticket (https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) with the video evidence.

You're not allowed to post their names on the forums.

  • Now that's not fair. My dad's car was held together by duct tape and it worked waaaay better.

  • I just want to bump this because this charm is still broken. The charm does not appear on the hook during matches.

This charm was from the paid track of the Rift, it'd be nice to be able to use it.

  • What, you don't like being able to go up to survivors and pat them on the shoulder? I thought everyone liked an encouraging "Keep up the good job" every now and then.

  • In general, I think his best outfit is True Blight. My favorite part is the head, and I'll combine it with other pieces that I think look good with it.
