I played against a Wraith on The Game a few days ago. I actually managed to use Power Struggle without having been slugged for any amount of time, there are just that many pallets and sometimes the killer has no choice but to walk through them to get to a hook.
That poor Wraith, that was not a good match for him. :(

This starts to have the problem that old DS had: anyone who wasn't the obsession but had DS would be able to stab the killer once they filled 35% of the wiggle bar. Killers found that to be a worse problem than the obsession-who-stabs-the-killer-immediately DS because it caused them to waste more time and they couldn't counter it.
What's the counter to a survivor wiggling faster? Slugging? The devs have to be careful about anything they do where slugging is the only reliable counter, because one of the more complained-about things in this game is slugging.
Once a killer wins a chase, taking away their hook after better take a lot of effort on the survivors' part, otherwise the killer's just going to be super frustrated. It turns into a lot of wasted time without getting closer to winning while also losing out on a large chunk of BP, because hooking is what killers get rewarded for.
@miketheratguy said:
Question for anyone who attempts wiggling with a controller: Do you literally juggle the stick back and forth or do you swirl it in a circle under your palm? I've tried both methods and escape maybe once out of every twenty times. I don't know if that's really bad, really good or what, but I worry that if it's THAT unlikely to get free then I might as well not bother and extend the life of my controller.
I use my thumb and sometimes I swirl it in a circle and sometimes I jiggle it back and forth. I've tried it with my palm and it felt awkward. A lot of times I don't bother to wiggle at all because it can hurt my thumb.

I always assume teabagging means "Please leave me and my teammates alone, we need to do gens." I'm a nice killer, and I don't burn offerings or use add-ons, so it's totally cool with me to go off and do my own thing and ignore them all match. I guess a lot of survivors prefer to do gens and get like almost no points, but maybe it's for a challenge? [shrugs]

I play on PS4 Pro. The answer is a hard no.

If these changes are mandatory, isn't that going to kind of waste a lot of the money that people have paid for cosmetics? If I don't like the way that Nea looks, just as an example, I'm not going to buy any cosmetics for her. But I already have, so now that's wasted money - cosmetics that I used to make a character look more appealing, which are now being used on a character that no longer looks appealing.
I mean, how are they actually even going to do that, anyway? Aren't they going to have to go back through and alter every single cosmetic head? Which reiterates my point: I paid money for them because of how they looked, with the expectation that they wouldn't randomly change sometime in the future. Has anyone discussed this?
It's an online game, so it's in the agreement that they can change whatever they want whenever they want and as a player you can't do anything about it, there's no recourse, they keep your money no matter how you feel about it.
I've been unhappy about the change to Kate's hair for a long, long time, ever since it stopped looking like curls in front and was changed to look more like Farrah hair. Sucks.
-
Not sure how you could prevent a person from making a choice to do something.
If killers were bots, sure, you equip something and it turns off that chunk of code. But people aren't bots. These perks are referred to as "anti-x" perks, but that's just a nickname, it means that they affect an opponent who does "x."
A perk that is "anti-tunneling" will help protect a survivor when a killer tunnels, giving them a chance to escape. The perk can't completely save them, it can't do all the work for that player, it just gives them an opportunity to save themselves. A killer tunnels off the hook, the survivor has no opportunity to get to a safer location because they just came off the hook, so they get to stab the killer and then run to a loop or try to break line of sight. The perk has given them a chance they didn't previously have.
-
question for the lore: Do the survivors' bodies "reset" each time they return to the campfire, keeping them the same age and health state for eternity, or do all the survivors have hep c from the hooks at this point?
-
Meg's face looks better. She looks more worried, less judge-y, which is a good improvement imo. However, her original hair is bad, and her new hair is worse.
New Dwight looks weird. Really weird.
Claudette looks older, angry, and more masculine.
-
The new version looks older. And angry. I prefer the general shape of her old hair more, it helped widen her face instead of elongate it.
-
I haven't noticed an increase in tunneling.
QUESTION: If a survivor picks themself up off the ground with Unbreakable, does that deactivate DS?
(If not, is it really easy to pick yourself up and also accidentally heal yourself a bit if you're running Unbreakable and Self Care? I'm just trying to figure out if a survivor screwed herself out of DS by insisting on picking herself up rather than letting me pick her up, or if she missed the skill check when she got immediately re-downed and hooked.)
-
Had a match recently where someone suicided on hook first thing. The Ghost Face let the remaining three of us survive to finish the gens. Once the gens were done, he killed Adam, then it was just me and another survivor left. I rescued her instead of trying to escape, and the GF of course downed both of us. He put her back on the hook but carried me to the hatch and even nodded at me. Very nice of him, dunno why he chose me, but thank you. 😀👍️
I had another match against a Trickster where someone disconnected early on. I was working on doing a stun challenge (and working towards the new stun-and-run achievement), so I tried hard to keep him busy chasing me the whole time. Despite my antics, he was still very nice at the end of the match, letting everyone go, so I went up to a hook and pointed at it. He nodded at me, and even though I'm sure I was a monumental pain in his ass (being hit with pallets is never fun), he hesitated before hooking me to make sure it was what I wanted. Sorry I stunned you a bunch, Trickster, it was nothing personal and I was really happy that you sacrificed me. ❤️
-
"Killer is fast-lobby mode and anyone playing it simply doesn't have enough free time to sit in a long-ass queue to play survivor. Just feel they should all be reminded of that when possible."
fixed that for you.
-
This problem is not uncommon on console. For people with frame-drop issues, Dead Hard is not the only thing that causes it, but it's one of the major ones. For some of us, every little thing causes frame drops, including the killer getting a hit, someone opening a chest, status effects, 360ing, and just basically anything that's not simply standing still.
-
Whenever my friend is playing killer and survivors do something to ruin his match, I'll take the controller and get revenge. No one ruins his day but me, dammit.
The one time I did it when it wasn't necessarily warranted and kinda petty was when I was introducing my friend to Freddy (back in the day before Freddy's rework and before Ruin was updated). He'd never played Freddy before and didn't understand how the killer functioned. I had him put on Hex: Ruin to slow the game down a bit so he could, you know, actually learn and participate in the match.
As soon as the match starts, I have him immediately go check his Ruin totem. It's across the map, on the other side of a wall, so he gets there and turns the corner to see a Meg cleansing it. Right away he starts putting her to sleep, of course, but in the meantime he's literally standing there watching her cleanse the totem unable to do anything about it. She finishes cleansing the totem before he can intervene. The entire situation was just... he didn't want to continue the match after that. The disappointed look on his face made me furious at the Meg.
I took the controller and tunneled and camped her to death. I didn't bother with any of the other survivors, I didn't care, it was just her.
-
First DLC I bought was Leatherface. I've had some fun playing with him, and he came with BBQ, so hell no I don't regret it. 😀
-
I've been thinking the same thing. I know not all killers can be great on console, I'm not having unrealistic expectations here, but it feels extremely inconsiderate on the devs' part to have so many console-unfriendly killers in a row.
Trickster's recoil, which could be damn near crippling on console, was just proof that console isn't even taken into consideration, because as if aiming wasn't bad enough they made it worse on purpose rather than trying to balance him in a console-friendly way.

Jailed is not being able to post anymore
I thought jailed was not being able to start threads while jailed. I've seen plenty of jailed people post.
In order to not be able to view the forums, the ban would have to be an IP ban, not just an account ban, because a person doesn't have to be logged in to read the forums.

It's possible that the order in which they are used is dependent on the order in which they are equipped.
What I mean is, if Soul Guard is in slot 1 and Unbreakable is in slot 2, then Soul Guard will take precedence (which is what you want). If Unbreakable is in slot 1 and Soul Guard is in slot 2, then Unbreakable will take precedence and get used even if there is a hex active.
Someone should test this theory.
-
Solo queue is like playing Russian Roulette, but the chamber has five bullets instead of one.
And that's on a good day.
-
I talk about wanting to slug some of the villagers in Animal Crossing when they're not cooperating. 😈
-
The only reason anyone would ever say "gg ez" is to mine salt... and your reaction seems like the exact thing they're hoping for, so... congrats on reinforcing their behavior?
That's why, back when I still had messages on and survivors would send me "gg ez" after a match, I'd respond with something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, I'm still learning." It's much more entertaining (for me) to take the fun out of it for them than to give them what they want.
-
As long as they are slugged, it's fine.
If they are trapped in there and they are not in the dying state, then it becomes an issue. But in the dying state they are bleeding out and the game will come to a definite end. Slugging does not constitute taking the game hostage because the bleed-out timer is 4 minutes, after which they die and move on.

I didn't know every single map is only 32 meters long/wide. That's news to me.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/279-4-7-0-ptb
"Borrowed Time no longer triggers based on Terror Radius... it just works."
Unless the devs change their mind, that update will be going live with the mid-chapter update. Borrowed Time will always trigger no matter where the killer is.
-
I'm not sure I've ever bothered burning a yellow mori.
It's rather ridiculous that in a horror game, a game that's part of a genre in which gruesome kills are a staple, it requires jumping through a ton of hoops to see kill animations. To make it worse, it's quite easy for the opposing side to deny seeing those kill animations by suiciding on the hook and DCing.
-
Some people get bored when they can't find anyone to interact with.
Stealthy playstyles when it's all four survivors can be rather annoying depending on the map and how my eyes are feeling that day. The maps can be so dark and if there were multiple Blendettes in the lobby, if I can't find anyone after going around the map a few times, I'll just go afk. I rest my eyes from straining them looking in dark corners and the Blendettes get to not see the killer all match, just like they wanted, so it's win-win.
-
I hate that grabs are so broken. It drives me nuts when the killer gets stuck with his hand out and it lets the survivor finish the gen or rescue their teammate off the hook. Dude, they weren't even halfway through the unhook animation and they didn't stop and restart, why am I the one being punished??
The least the devs could do is fix it so that if the grab doesn't go through then the killer gets a hit in, instead. But right now, killers just get 100% screwed when a grab doesn't complete.

- For a long time, I mained Spirit.
- I like her design. I'm a fan of Asian horror. I think her power is cool and unique. I enjoy that thing in Asian horror movies where the ghost is standing in one spot then suddenly it's standing closer to you and then closer. Plus, when playing killer, I want to be spooky. I like playing stealth killers and sneaking up on people. Spirit is amazing in that you can be chasing one person, phase, and then surprise the [BAD WORD] out of someone else. I love doing that, I know I scared some people who thought I was preoccupied and were not expecting me to pop up right behind them.
- She lost collision.
- I think I stopped playing her not long after she lost collision. I can't track via sound in this game, so without collision my Spirit gameplay suffers.
- My new main is Mikey. I stay in Evil Within 1 all match and am just spooky.
- If the devs changed Mikey so that he no longer had EW1, I'd stop playing him. I need him to have a no-TR, no-red-stain mode which I can keep indefinitely in order for him to work for me.
-
I imagine they influence something, but each of us filling out the survey is a drop in the bucket. Any one individual may not be representative of the larger playerbase.
I just fill it out hoping it's not meaningless, and I use the "tell us more" box to unload. (I'm a horror fan outside the game and a writer/editor, so I have a lot to say about what they do, including the lore they write which at this point I can't even read, it's not only the length of a novel but embarrassingly bad.)
-
I started playing the game during the 2018 Hallowed Blight event. All the chapters were half off, so I ended up buying everything that had been released so far (which, at the time, was up through Spirit).
The first chapter that was released after I started playing was Legion. I was extremely disappointed in what he turned out to be, so I bought him and Jeff with shards. And I've bought every single original chapter since then with shards, too. I only spend money on the licensed chapters.
I've amassed a rather large amount of shards, I can purchase chapters the day they're released and never have to save up for anything, so it's no biggie.
-
Back in the day, being the obsession could be very bad because originally Dying Light worked by tunneling the obsession out as fast as possible. Terrible perk design, and that's since been changed.
Now, the biggest threat when being the obsession as survivor is Rancor, which can get your insta-killed once all five gens are done.
Otherwise, when it comes to being the obsession... eh. Ups and downs.
As killer, there are some fun builds that can be done by taking advantage of the obsession mechanic, and Nemesis is often a part of those: it can be quite useful when combined with other obsession perks.

That detail does make sense, I remember some reviewers being hard on the game because Freddy wasn't included (the Switch version didn't HAVE TO include any of the DLC, but I do see how they'd be miffed being that the game was originally full price). That's got to be where the issue comes from. I'll contact them about it too, it's definitely something that they should know about and likely not something that the average Switch user is aware of. Probably not a load of players bought the game for both it AND the PC.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2139749#Comment_2139749
Based on your post total alone you've been playing this game MUCH longer than I have so this won't mean much, but I too have only seen the Twins roughly 5, maybe six times total. The Plague maybe a couple more, still single digits. Same with Blight. Those are the three killers I see the least, no question. Oni and Freddy would be next. Maybe Deathslinger. Beyond that I see everybody pretty consistently, with Trickster, Wraith, Huntress, and Spirit being the only ones I can count on seeing multiple times per day.
As I mentioned earlier I WISH I saw the Trickster as infrequently as the rest of you have. I swear, maybe it was because I was playing like a madman during that first week when he was released, but there were times when I'd get him five times in a row. That ######### got old fast.
Oh, I get Trickster a ton. Immediately following his release I saw almost exclusively Trickster, I was easily getting him five times in a row. Lately he's still probably at least 50% of my matches when I play survivor.
But in terms of the maps I've seen him on... I know I played against him on Haddonfield, but I think I mostly get corn maps and Autohaven against him.
-
I don't think I can remember ever playing against a Plague on Midwich.
There are probably other killers I haven't played against on Midwich, actually, since Midwich is the map I've gotten the least. I can't remember ever seeing Nurse or Blight or The Twins on Midwich...
There are a crapton of maps I haven't seen Trickster on since he's the newest killer. And there are definitely a metric crapton of maps I haven't seen The Twins on because I don't think the number of times I've seen them since their release even reaches double digits.
-
Hell yeah, Kate is nice.
Really wish I understood why I seem to get tunneled more often when I play as her, though. Especially since she's my main. 😥
-
I like to imagine it's a tunnel lined with thorny vines and the survivor has to crawl a mile through them to get back to the campfire.
-
It actually ticks me off that the game is both 1. poorly optimized on consoles, and 2. lacking cross-progression. Like, both of those things are bad on their own, but combined it's just... #########?! It's not okay. Console players get screwed twice over.
Poor optimization with ruinous frame drops, no decent settings so that killers don't play like garbage on controllers (just the one sensitivity option is not enough), and the fog makes the fans on my PS4 Pro go freaking nuts.
I mean, I love it when a survivor jerks forward and things freeze up and I'm trying to figure out if that was a Dead Hard or frame drops or a combination of both. Losing a chase because the survivor disappeared due to frame drops caused by 360ing or Bloodlust tiering up. No, man, that's cool, it doesn't matter that that can cost a killer three generators with nothing to show for it. It's totally fine that the game is balanced in that manner while also having these sorts of issues, no biggie.
When you add in all the other problems with the game (broken grabs, for instance, and aim dressing, and the mess that is dedicated servers), it starts to feel like I'm fighting the game itself more than I am survivors sometimes.
I know I'm bad at the game, and that's fine, but when the game itself compounds the problem by throwing frame drops and poor responsiveness at me to make sure I fail even when I'm doing well... [[sigh]] This is why I meme so much as killer.
I want to scream "Fix this nonsense!" but I'd feel like I'm screaming into a void.
Also... does anyone know if the audio is the same on console as it is on PC? I'm legitimately curious about this, I have no idea if all the platforms handle the audio and its directional information in the same manner.

DbD is a game full of not-fun mechanics. Slugging isn't fun for survivors. They're on the ground, they can't really participate in the game, they can only crawl around and wait to bleed out. Ooooh, goodie. Being hooked isn't fun for survivors either, as they just hang there and wait to be saved or sacrificed. I would think a major part of game design is making sure players are spending the majority of their time participating in the fun stuff, but DbD was designed around killers slugging and hooking, and when survivors are participating they're mostly holding M1 on gens.
Slugging is necessary because the game was designed around it being part of every killer's base kit. Removing it would require huge changes.

I see, Kinda strange how it only is there on rank 1's apperently
Well, it's the same with the Killer Rank 1 icon, that's the only one with the skull on it. I think it's just to make the rank 1 icon special.
The killer skull and the survivor gears are both shown on the main menu, though, so they are just the generic symbols for that role.
-
@miketheratguy said:
The survivor icon reminds me of a Madball. Anyone else here old enough to remember Madballs?
...Then again I guess they did get brought back for a while. Never mind.
I agree. I've always thought it looked like a patchwork voodoo doll kinda face. Or like an IDV icon or something outta Binding of Isaac, I dunno. But it takes effort for me to see the gears instead of a face.
-
This is one of the reasons I don't play Plague. The number of times survivors react to her puke without getting sick makes me sick. I can only take so much of that in a match before I just put the controller down and walk away.
-
I think it's a ball made out of gears to symbolize "survivor"?
-
Killers and their damn crutches. Look at this [BAD WORD]. What the hell does Oni need a crutch for?
-
I've been going into my games as Demo running Lightborn, Starstruck, Agitation, and Iron Grasp. I have one goal: bait someone to attempt a flashlight save. It's very specific, but I find it amusing.
(Someone last-second switched to a flashlight in one of my lobbies yesterday... I was so happy to see that. Apparently, they didn't share my enthusiasm; they DC'd when I hooked them.)
-
I hate keys -_-
I had someone disconnect early in a match yesterday. I was nice, I didn't slaughter anyone, unfortunately the remaining survivors didn't seem to want to interact with me, either. I went to the exit gate so I could open it and at least get those points. The survivors found a key in a chest, and even though they saw me waiting to open the door, they hatched out.
I just wanted a few points. 😢
-
Devs aren't going to nerf SWF. They've specifically said they're not going to do anything that could be considered punishing people for playing with friends.
This wouldn't necessarily help, anyway, because at least on PS4 I know I get requests to join other survivors on comms in the lobby. You don't have to be SWF to be on comms, and you can play with friends without being on comms. And there is no way for the game to reliably know who is on comms and who isn't.
-
I prefer the Party Starters. I want those to be permanent items in the Bloodweb. I love the fireworks and the confetti, both types are fun. The game is silly, anyway, might as well embrace it and let survivors set off fireworks on the pier.

I mean if you run Breakdown, once you get unhook your hook stay broken till the match end. 8 hooks no kill= 8 broken hooks that NEVER come back. Some ######### ass SWF are abusing it.
... uh, what? Was that comment meant for me?
Yeah, I know Breakdown is broken and teams can do that. Not sure... ummm, not sure.... what... to say to that. Doesn't really have anything to do with pallet stuns.
-
Kinda premature to be saying "permanently broken."
Yeah, pallet stuns are buggy. I still get stunned plenty, so it's not like pallets never work. I'm sure the devs are looking into the issue.
-
@Pogiforce said:
True, and I understand that, but at that point the Devs shoudn't have made an achievement that actively encourages players to play a build that is legitimate unfun for 80% of the lobby. At the time too I also wasn't aware such an achievement existed, I was just upset that the Michael was doing that. Besides, you know there are michaels who do it because it's an easy win, and having nothing to do with hunting achievements. Some achievements are just going to be hard. I still haven't gotten Adept David...
That add-on combo is only an easy win if the survivors screw around. Otherwise, it makes Mikey a more worse-off set-up killer than Trapper. It takes soooo long to get up to EW3 that it's quite possible for the survivors to finish gens first.
Survivor adepts are usually rather easy to get, because they don't necessarily require trying. Perseverance is enough: if you play as that survivor enough times it'll happen at some point. I got adept David on my first attempt because the killer was just.. not good. All four survivors escaping through the hatch, now that one is ridiculous.
-
"What do you think of these images?"
There was no option for "boring." The Twins are boring and lackluster. The Plague's puke is comical. DbD's idea of gore and body horror is so dull, and the survey gives me the impression they're worried they're going to extremes. 🤣
