I personally haven't played it but from what I've seen and heard from people the AI will react differently each time, like this one video the player was being chased by the killer and ended the loop chase and even put traps in spots on the map you wouldn't expect
Huh, nifty.
I'm really looking forward to trying this out. I do hope they add more maps and allow all the player to choose from any killer. Hell, it'd be a good way to test unpurchased killers to see if you'd like to buy them. Not only is there plenty of buyer's remorse in this game, but there are also a lot of times when people are like, "Hey, I thought this killer would suck, but they're actually a lot of fun!" It could mean more purchases.
-
I'm curious, for those of you who've played on the PTB, how much do the bots' actions change from one match to the next? Do they practically act like they're on rails and just respond to the killer's actions, or do they really play differently each time?
-
It took me so many tries to get this done because I would hit two survivors with Corrupt Purge but only one would get injured.
I [BAD WORD]ing hate how broken Plague is.
-
If players force you to farm against your will, you can report them in the end-game screen and then also submit a support ticket with video evidence. The players could get banned for it.
When you disconnect, though, the game can't tell why you did it, so it's going to give you the disconnect penalty no matter your reasons.
-
I used to get salty messages from teammates on PS4. It's one of the reasons I turned off messages. Sorry I didn't attempt that basement save during the EGC when the killer had NOED and was camping your ass, I didn't think my Jeff with his three original perks would be much help. Crying out loud.
-
I got it by injuring/downing survivors 6 times with Corrupt Purge.

That's a good idea about the game only being able to recognize the killer once the match starts, but I guess it does it earlier during the lobby.
That's a really flawed way to collect data. That implies that everything is set in stone when I queue up. The devs sometimes post up stats about perks and stuff, so they're constantly collecting data about everything. Being locked on which killer I queue up with implies the same for perks, so if I queue up with Ruin but then take it off and put on Lightborn, their system will think I had Ruin and it'll influence their data on how Ruin affects gen speeds, even though I didn't actually enter the match with Ruin. I mean, why would they split up when data collection starts, wouldn't it start collecting all the data about a match at the same time?
Does the system do the same thing for survivors? Is the DS data about how many survivors use DS including survivors who unequipped DS in the lobby?
edit: typo/grammar

Two reasons why this is not possible:
- MMR is calculating in the Background. Because of that, it is impossible to switch the Killer.
- They can turn MMR on/off on their end, the ability to switch Killers needs to be added and removed with a Patch. So when they finished MMR, they can simply turn it on without the need of a Patch.
And personally, I dont mind that switching is not possible. Killers claim that their Lobby Times are instant, so if they want to dodge because they are scared, they will be in a Lobby right away.
@A_Skinny_Legend said:
It's still calculating people's individual mmr, it's just not putting you up against/ with people in your level.
Killers will have their own mmr each, so if you suck at nurse then you'll get potato survivors, but if you're amazing as Pyramid Head then you'll get the mlg 420/ 360 elite squad that can no scope you with their flashlights. At least that's what it's supposed to do if it all works well.
Why is the system beginning to calculate the match's results before the match starts? The devs started collecting MMR data before they switched off being able to change killers in the lobby, so I don't get why they changed their system to not be able to handle that.
If MMR were on right now, then it would be comparing players' MMR and trying to build a lobby based on that. But why is it already starting to calculate the results of the match in the lobby? Why doesn't it wait until the match starts to be like, "Okay, the player chose _____ killer"? I don't get why the calculation is stuck on the killer the player queued up with rather than being able to go by who the player starts the match with.
If it's not building a lobby based on the killer's MMR (which it's not right now, skill-based matchmaking isn't turned on), then it shouldn't care about who the killer is until the match starts.
Once the MMR goes live, when a brand new player queues up, all of their killers will be at the exact same skill level, so in the lobby they should be able to switch between killers and it won't make a bit of difference in terms of how they compare to the survivors they're put up against.
-
I really miss the ability to do this.
Once MMR is live, they could also compare the MMR of each killer and if some killers are within a certain range, allow the player to switch. Like, if I'm about equally good at Wraith as I am Doc, and their MMRs are about the same, then it'd make sense to let me switch in the lobby when I see a group with four flashlights, otherwise my choices are to play Wraith against that or ditch and have to re-queue up. That sucks.

For a very limited time there was the Blight Serum add-on that any killer could use. It had a longer dash than Dead Hard, but it required hooking a survivor first and then it replaced the killer's power until used. Couldn't even attack while dashing, meanwhile survivors can DH and throw down a pallet.
Blight Serum is an Event Killer Add-on . Add-on descriptions may vary from in-game descriptions for reasons explained here.Add-ons support Mouse-over functionality (desktop version only): hovering over the modifier words with your cursor will reveal the values behind them.On mobile browsers, the values are displayed in small text after the modifier words. Desktop users experiencing issues with the mouse-over may temporarily switch to mobile view at the bottom of an Article page. It was added witKillers didn't even get to use this for very long: it only lasted as long as the 2020 Halloween "event." I am curious whether it will return for Halloween 2021. They really should at least allow its usage in custom games, because why not.
-
I have a lot of trouble looking behind me in a chase. But I've never played DbD on PC, so I don't know if that's a console thing or a me thing.
Frame drops happen as both survivor and killer, though they're more harmful during my killer games, but still, they happen. As survivor, frames dropping at the wrong time can mean the killer gets a hit. They used to get me killed on the hook in second state, but the recent change from button mashing to skill checks has fixed that.

Matchmaking isn't my fault and like you said I reached my plateau as a green rank killer so stop giving me purple and red ranks...that is unfair to me as well. If it is a futile and unfun experience why do you still play? All I did was switch sides to the ez mode and prove the hypocrisy in this game with my karma challenge right now
"prove the hypocrisy in this game." I mean, yeah. Saying survivors making killers miserable is bad but then doing it yourself, that's hypocrisy, and I'm not sure why anyone would glorify doing that, but okay. However, proving hypocrisy exists by doing it yourself doesn't really prove anything except your own hypocrisy, so I'm not really seeing the accomplishment.
I never said matchmaking is your fault. It's also not my fault, so I don't get why some random survivor would want to come into my lobby and attempt to punish me to prove something that has nothing to do with me. That's weird. And kinda funny. But mostly it's beneficial for me: I have Lightborn on permanently and the TV muted, flashlights do nothing more than give me free Deviousness points.
I said playing to win is futile and unfun. I'm a big horror fan, walking around being spooky is enjoyable for me. I hide behind trees, I stare at survivors as Mikey without bothering to tier up. Maybe I get grabs or something if grabs are working that match. I like memeing. Oh, and searching for the gnome. That's actually quite a challenge, I almost never find that sucker. Hooks are actually pretty boring no matter what, the game needs more animations. I wouldn't be opposed to some gore. Without better animations and stuff the only incentives to bother killing survivors are achievements and challenges.

In all fairness plenty of people have already left...the new killers are just going to be the new punching bags for the cashcows(swf).
Unfortunately, the more killers who leave, the less data the devs can collect and the longer it will take for them to get a decent MMR. Even if/when the MMR goes live, if there aren't enough players, it'll still have to create extremely imbalanced matches. The difference will be that, right now, a player's rank is affected the same whether the match was fair or not; with MMR, the player's rank used for matchmaking won't be as affected when they lose a match that was stacked against them, but the player won't even see that, it'll all be behind the scenes because no one will know their matchmaking rank.
So, the more players chased away now, the less useful MMR will be when it does go live because it simply won't have the players needed to give everyone fun matches. Players who are chased away aren't going to return when MMR goes live; they won't even know about it because they'll have moved on to something else, they won't be paying attention to DbD.

And that way we get a casual mode or mmr instead of saying yes give me sweats that we don't want
The devs are working on MMR. They've already tested it a few times, but it still has bugs to work out. Actively trying to make other players miserable won't move things along any faster, it'll just get more players to quit which means less money for the devs and then they won't even be able to afford finishing the MMR.
A casual mode is unfortunately never coming, because the queues are already lopsided and splitting it up would make it worse.
-
I only slug for the 4k if I have to for a challenge or an achievement. Otherwise, unless the last survivor is right there, I hook number 3 and if the 4th gets hatch then whatever.
If there are two survivors left, just pick which one you'd rather give a chance to escape and go for the other one. That way, if the last one does get out, you're okay with it.
If I'm the final survivor and the killer is slugging for the 4k, I'll often just start making noise notifications and give myself up. "Here I am, please kill me! I'd rather move on to the next match than play out this farce." It might piss off the slugged survivor because oh no I didn't try to win, but I rarely care about escaping, anyway. If it's me slugged I'd rather just die and get the hell out, so who knows, maybe the slugged survivor doesn't mind my forfeiting, I'll never know.
-
Fuming? No. Usually I'm laughing or confused. I mean, I usually don't even play to kill, so someone DCing is throwing away a lot of points for no reason. And even if I am playing to kill for a challenge or something, I'm not very good, it is really easy to win against me. So, yeah, any survivor who disconnects against me is just making themselves look very foolish, and I'm certainly not fuming over it.
lol fuming. What nonsense these players think up sometimes. They project way too much onto their opposition. Says more about them than anything.
-
The perk is more a deterrent than anything because it tells the survivors they're Exposed. If anything Starstruck is too weak because of that.
-
I thought the devs said you weren't allowed to kill survivors wearing the pride charm? /s
-
I've always thought it was pretty boring that maps don't have any hazards in this game. I like the zombies, they're like wandering hazards.
I'm really hoping the zombies don't get nerfed before Nemesis goes live. There are a couple fixes the zombies need, but beyond that I really hope I get to play them as they are now. Having zombie minions looks so fun.
-
A bunch of flashlights and teabaggers, I just go stare at a wall and put the controller down, meanwhile I play a different game on my computer or answer emails or something. The survivors can enjoy having sat in a queue for a match where they get to do nothing but sit on gens. A lot of them hate that, I know because sometimes they'll even DC when they realize they're not going to get any attention. Even if they do gens, they probably de-pip, and they get so little BP they're in the red for the add-ons and offerings they used.
I prefer boring them to trying to slug or tunnel or anything: it not only requires no effort on my part but I can be enjoying myself doing something else in the meantime.

Why are they not allowed to use game mechanics to help another survivor? It was probably a boring match for them bc your friend didnt attack and i can understand their frustration.
Never said they weren't allowed to. It just all seemed very pointless. If they were frustrated or bored, they could have just left, he had opened the exit gate. They chose to stick around, but they didn't want hook saves, they didn't seem to want anything from him except to blind him, and me and him both run Lightborn permanently so what they were doing was completely pointless. It seemed like they were out to antagonize him (but only now that the gate was open so they were completely safe, no challenge, no actual danger), so rather than earn points with them he walked away while they kept hanging out around the open exit gate and started kicking the breakable walls: they can waste their own time earning nothing while he continues earning BP.
-
That's by design, the game is working as intended. If you want to use Deliverance on your first hook, you need at least one other survivor on the map with you. If you're the final survivor, you're sacrificed immediately; the devs have said they have no intention of changing that because it would be a waste of everyone's time.

The female zombie is a fan-favorite among Resident Evil players and her unofficial nickname from them has been "Misty."
https://twitter.com/thespherehunter/status/1161745276249374720In case anyone's interested.
-
I can't hit the skill check for crap. I've missed it more times than not when I've tried equipping DS.
-
It's boring. It's generic. It lacks a strong identity of its own.
-
First survivor I played was David King, for WGLF.
-
What do ranks even have to do with anything?
Watched my friend earlier today play friendly Spirit. Didn't injure anyone or anything, just chased, but then in the exit gate they're blinding him and when he tries to hook one they break the hook and continue trying to blind him. Why? What the hell does that prove, to bully someone who never even swung their weapon?
But he didn't then switch over to survivor and play like a dick to make other killers feel his pain. Because that is ass backwards.
Congrats on being part of the problem, I guess, you've found a really weird way to try to justify it but have fun adding to the community's toxicity.
-
I was most disappointed by Demise of the Faithful and Cursed Legacy. The killers for both looked really cool in the PTB, but I play on console. Plague was nerfed before being released live. I think Oni was nerfed before going live, but I don't remember for sure; he definitely didn't play on console the way he did on the PTB. I never use either killer, especially since Plague got worse with dedicated servers.
I try not to get excited when a killer looks fun on the PTB. It only leads to disappointment.
-
Did you use their code to get 250k BP without spending it? Because that would be why, their gifted BP doesn't count towards the cap. If you never used a code to get bonus BP, then it's probably a bug.
-
I just watched Benny Loves You last night, holy crap what a riot. I would prefer Benny immensely over new Chucky. The Child's Play remake was ass, which is super disappointing given that they had Mark Hamill doing the voice and they didn't utilize him at all.
-
So... survivors make you miserable as killer. Fine, that's common. But your response is to then become the very thing that's making you miserable, instead of playing survivor and trying not to be like those dicks who ruined your games.
That's... that's totally backwards.
It'd make more sense to meme around as survivor. Run Bond, Technician, Diversion, and Red Herring and have a bit of fun tanking your teammates. That would make some sense as a response.
You talk about making killers better, but that's just a load of crap. There's a difference between a healthy challenge that someone learns from and a miserable experience. The latter is more likely to get players tilted, which makes them play worse, or it causes them to outright quit. If you're playing against low rank killers, then you're probably going against not just newbies but also killers who plateaued and just reached a point after which they're unable to improve. What you're doing is not helping them learn. Matchmaking is already screwing them over; you know that and you're capitalizing on it at their expense.
Ugh, this is why I don't do anything but meme around as killer. The mix of RNG, bugs, bad matchmaking, and unsportsmanlike players makes playing this game for real seem like a completely futile and unfun experience, at least to me. Why anyone would do more than walk around as tier 1 Mikey, spook a few players, and then just wait for the next match is beyond me. The chance to be spooky is what keeps me playing DbD.
Edit: correction to perk name
-
I had a match against a three-man SWF where one went down, they crawled under the shack pallet, and the other two came over and proceeded to loop me around the shack for like, ever. Everyone ended up bleeding out in the end.
I'm sure at least the three-man would've reported me for unsportsmanlike behavior, even though they basically forced me to play that way. I'm sure three reports alone wouldn't get someone banned, but that crap adds up quick if you play killer. Will the Autoban system really know if you were reported for playing the game versus doing something actually toxic? What's even considered toxic? I thought bannable things are more exploits, griefing, and cheating, anyway, and cheating has a zero-tolerance policy, not a get-reported-40-times-and-then-we-care policy. Toxicity is usually considered more post-game behavior, and there's the nutty chat censor that's supposed to be handling that.
What is the Autoban feature meant to ban for, and how will it know if the reports are genuine? That's my question.
-
I would really like this. It sucks that you're stuck with the default head if you want to wear a crown, even though the crown is a separate floating piece. It should get its own slot.
-
I mean, it changes from person to person.
In general, nice messages are nice. It's not uncommon for gamers to have social anxiety and stuff, though, so if they don't message you back, don't take it personally. They probably appreciate the sentiment but feel a bit awkward messaging strangers.
There's also the possibility that they get so much salt they're not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, so they don't want to risk sending back "gg" and getting laughed at. When I had messages turned on, there were times when I really couldn't tell if messages were genuine, salty, or mocking. If you compliment them on something specific rather than an ambiguous "gg," you may be more likely to get a response.
-
I have messages turned off, so it'd be nice to have some non-social way of saying "Thanks!" or "gg" to other players. Right now I'll hit the thumbs up button despite knowing it doesn't do anything... but it'd be great if it did something.

I've had people apologize. These guys used alt accounts to send me slurs, so I doubt they'll apologize.
Can't turn off messages, unfortunately.
Alt accounts, wow. That's like double the normal cowardice of sending hate mail over the internet.
You can't turn off messages? Oh, that sucks. I'm not sure I could live like that with playing DbD. The salt can be funny at times but eh, in general it's not really my thing, I prefer silence.
It's crazy that you can't turn off messages. Damn. Privacy settings like that are so baseline, that's a horrible decision on Microsoft's part. Muting, blocking, and reporting are not an acceptable substitute. DbD generates a lot of reportable messages, people shouldn't be forced to deal with that garbage.
-
Ugh, people are gross.
This is why I have messages and friend requests turned off on PS4. There have been matches after which I'm just like, "I bet they really want to write me hate mail... gosh, I hope it burns them up that they can't."
Back when I had messages turned on, I was always super polite to people who sent nasty messages, and sometimes I'd pretend to be confused. I mean, the confusion was somewhat genuine considering they were complaining about stuff I didn't do, but whatever. Being super nice and polite and/or confused worked well, it either hilariously frustrated them or they calmed down and apologized.

This seems too strong with how fragile totems are, especially since Undying got nerfed. Even with TotH maps can be too large to have a chance of keeping totems standing for any length of time.
Why nerf Undying if this was coming? Could've waited until after this released to see how the game is affected.
-
You're looking at the emblem system and rank as if it's a reward. While it might be used for rewards in the future, its original intent was for matchmaking. (I'm going to generalize here that kills = pips to save time even though we all know it's more complicated than that.) If you get only one or zero kills then you're facing survivors out of your league, so you de-pip so in the next match maybe you'll be on the same skill level as the survivors. If you get 2k, congrats! That's average. You're exactly where you need to be, so it's a safety pip. Three or four kills are overperforming, so you pip or double pip so you stop stomping newbies and go against survivors with more skill.
You don't get moved into a more challenging environment when you're doing "average"; you get moved into a more challenging environment when you overperform. If you're struggling to do well where you are, then you're either where you need to be or you need to de-rank.
The emblem system and ranks are in limbo at the moment: we know emblem scoring sucks and we know ranks aren't a good identifier of skill, but there's nothing to replace ranks for matchmaking yet so for now this is what it is.
-
I like spooking survivors (tier 1 Mikey is awesome). Mindgaming is fun, making a prediction and being right. And using the killer's power is one of the more rewarding aspects of playing killer. If a killer's power doesn't feel fun and rewarding (like say Legion), then the killer is a chore.
So, parts of chases are fun. But the parts where I'm trying to catch up to the survivor and close that distance, the parts where I'm having to run around a pile of junk just to get a pallet thrown down so we can move on to the next pile of junk, that stuff isn't enjoyable from the killer's perspective. What's there to like about that? It's a walking sim. For the survivor it's the exhilaration of being chased, but for the killer it's pressure because they're losing time and gens are being worked on. Survivors have three teammates to share the load of chases and gens, but there's only one killer and he is very aware that he can't be in four places at once.
The more time the killer spends chasing one survivor is less time spent chasing the other survivors. Don't be greedy by monopolizing the killer's time: share the fun of being chased with your teammates. 😜
-
For me, Main Event is just some annoying thing that happens to the sides of my screen. I never activate it.
-
I remember McCote saying "It's fun stabbing people." That was back when he was originally released, though, when he could stab stab stab and whiffing didn't penalize him. I didn't find this vanilla stabbing nonsense much fun then, but now that whiffing kicks him out of his power, he's definitely not fun.
-
This challenge really pissed me off. Not only are the circumstances demanded annoying, but the number of times I hit two survivors with Corrupt Purge but only one got injured... it took me longer than it should have to complete the challenge because of that second part. These problems should be fixed before making challenges based on them. Grabs, busted killer powers, it's like the people writing the challenges don't know the goddamn game.

Both sides deal with bugs and latency issues.
I never said that wasn't the case, there are definitely problems on both sides. But I will say, for me it always feels worse when I play killer. Survivors disappearing because of frame drops, bugged grabs that don't even let me injure a survivor, the different problems each killer has that screw up their powers... Frame drops screw me as survivor sometimes, and there are some hits that make me go "really?" but I can't remember the last time I had a problem as survivor that made me go "Screw it, I give up, I can't play like this."

Frankly, more people play games solo than with friends. And I'm talking about the grand scheme, in video gaming in general. With DBD being no exception.
Yes, Survivor is the only faction where you can play with friends. However, most people still only play solo. Take something like LoL for example. Do you have any idea how much solo players outnumber non-solo players??? It's immense.
That being said, there's only one remaining reason why so many more people play Survivor than Killer. And we all know what that reason is...
It's just free real estate.
DBD has attracted the hyper-casual crowd of gamers. You're not going to see CSGO tourny players that play DBD on the side, or anything like that. No; instead, people who play DBD also probably play things like... say, Animal Crossing, or what have you. Crap like that.
DBD has become that same type of appeal. Hey, I'll just play some solo DBD Survivor games. I'm so powerful as a Survivor, it's practically impossible for me to lose. I'll do this, because it makes me feel good.
And so, we have fast Killer queues and slow Survivor queues. I mean, it's RIGHT there. It's a pure statistic that can't be argued. All you can do is throw around weird, forced reasons as to why this would be, and try to beat around the bush about the real answer simply being: Survivor is obscenely overpowered in DBD.
How else can you POSSIBLY explain Killer - the faction with the ONLY amount of flavor in the entire game - being the most unplayed faction???
It's like... If you imagine a fighting game, and the only two characters were Akuma, and a generic gray humanoid "training mode" dummy. And then, turns out, 80% of the game's playerbase all play the training dummy, including competitive/tournament players. And you sit there wondering, HMM, WHY IS THAT? MAYBE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE TIME OF DAY.............
Hmm, okay. I could swear I remember that the SWF pool was pretty big when including 2-man, 3-man, and 4-man groups, but I could be wrong.
I only play solo survivor when I play survivor, and I'm not really fond of the survivor role. I play it when it has the quicker queue, because there are Tome Challenges to do. I'd play it more if I could play with the people I live with, because I enjoy that, I don't really enjoy being on comms with strangers, but that's not possible so I stick to solo and I either get taken out quick because I'm the weak link or I escape so easily it's not even fun because the killer's a newbie. The middle ground where matches would be a fun challenge doesn't seem to exist.
I've seen other people suggest that the survivor queue is super long because of console players: the poor optimization and lack of options for playing on a controller make killer a pain in the ass. Which is true, I play on PS4 and there are fewer problems when playing survivor, but I don't know if or how much that affects the queue because there's no data for it.
-
Survivor is the more attractive role to most people. Survivors get to play with friends and the game becomes a social thing where they hang out and chat. Killers don't get that. Killers play alone, and at night with the awful matchmaking killer goes from being a game mode to a thankless job. As the matchmaking gets more skewed because there are fewer killers, more killers quit for the night because their matches suck, and so it gets worse and worse.
It does not help that there's no estimated wait time. The devs need to add that for players so they know when the survivor or killer queue is overflowing. I queue up and a few minutes pass and I have no idea how much longer the wait is, there's nothing to give me any clue. Am I five seconds or five minutes away from entering a lobby? Is the other side's queue long as well? Players are given no information, and that makes the queue problems worse.
-
Got to watch a survivor key out today. Thanks to weird latency and the game rarely letting me get a hook grab, I downed Dwight mid-unhook but... Meg still came off the hook and ran straight to the nearby hatch to key out (with a key found in a chest). I got to watch her do it as the post-successful-hit animation finished. I get so tired of playing against not only four survivors but an unknowable number of different problems within the game. How can I counter weird latency and broken grabs and a key and survivors all at the same time?
Hatch shouldn't spawn until there's only one survivor left or all five gens are done. Being able to key out like that is ridiculous.
-
I wouldn't mind if they took away the Power Struggle notification for killer.
But I would also like them to take away the Exposed notification with Starstruck; let it be like NOED (and Devour Hope?) where the killer gets one surprise hit.
-
I couldn't get survivors to farm this with me. No matter how friendly I was, they all scattered the moment I started to use Corrupt Purge.
To make it worse, there were soooo many times when I hit two survivors with the stream, but only one got injured. This is exactly why I don't play Plague, because so often I hit a survivor with Vile Purge and they don't get infected: dedicated servers + particle physics = busted power. So it took many, many instances of hitting 2+ survivors with Corrupt Purge to actually get two survivors injured with one stream twice in the same trial and complete the challenge.
Just thinking about it makes me frustrated all over again. I am so pissed that they write challenges like this without fixing their game first.
