Banning the offender doesn't erase the source issue, does it?

Why do you think there's such a big movement on gun control in the United States? Arresting one criminal who shoots someone doesn't stop the next guy from doing the same exact thing, but limiting the usage of the tool would.

This is a good analogy, but not in the way you think.

In both cases, a minority of people are doing something bad. However, rather than looking at the issue in a more nuanced, retail method, people instead go for the easy answer and punish the majority unduly.

In the case of the masks, you've just sent a message to the trolls telling them 'hey, if you abuse something other people like, the devs will remove it'. I think that's the wrong message to send.

Hag is the only killer that I truly struggle to get a single kill with. Believe me, I've watched all of the big guides from some really good players, but it's just not clicking for me.

I really struggle with not knowing where and when to place traps, how to deal with survivors who are in an area where I don't have any traps placed, and not knowing whether to replace traps triggered by survivors or not.

She isn't for everyone, and especially at higher MMRs everyone and their dog knows how to counter her.

  • @Laluzi said:

Once more, absolutely none of the PTB feedback was acted on.

Boil Over is now the next hot troll perk - still completely useless for anyone looking to play Dead By Daylight normally, but can be abused in several maps, especially with oak offerings, to basically replicate the old Breakdown bug and create self-pickup slugfests in unhookable areas. Such zones include RCPD library, Eyrie of Crows, Dead Dawg Saloon (potentially), Thompson House, and god knows what mischief will unfold on Haddonfield because that was disabled in the PTB. Again, I want to stress that this perk isn't good, and can't even be used on most maps - it's 100% going to be troll bait.

Dead Man's Switch can be effortlessly camped by Artist, which lets her facecamp someone to death and prevent gens from getting any progress, or force a hook trade in which she blocks the gens again. Doctor and Freddy also have the potentials to be game-stalling monsters with this, but Artist is the main problem case.

Gearhead's aura is harder to see than the old version of the perk even if the trigger conditions are better.

Buckle Up and Furtive Chase are still 100% useless. Wake Up and Distortion are still 90% useless.

And unsurprisingly, none of the addon nerfs were reverted. Mikhail's Eye needed to be 35% instead of 50% zombie movement speed because Twins are monsters at high MMR.

Why do we even have a PTB if absolutely none of the feedback is taken into account? You might as well just release everything to live immediately and then patch it in three months if something's busted, because that's what happens anyway.

Not to mention a small Clown buff that actually just...didn't get implemented at all.

At least Pinhead's voicelines are dope.

  • @PeaceNGrease said:

I've had a lot of people use voil over and it doesn't even feel that different on a controller. I think it's fine, but it could be strong in vertical levels, which is fine

The issue isn't the shoving, it's the % progress on a drop.

This has no internal cooldown, so maps with tiered verticality (RPD, Eyrie) now have spots where anyone using this perk simply cannot be hooked.

  • @Aneurysm said:

Interesting idea, I'll consider it and report back if I do. Billy is being left out though, even the thought of upcoming archive challenges with him gives me depression 😩

EDIT: I'm going to postpone this challenge until tomorrow, right now things are just too messy with Boil Over squads leading me to discard almost half my games thus far.

  • I would love to enjoy it, but I'm currently trying to unlock Agitation on some more killers so I can do my little challenge in peace while also dealing with endless squads abusing Boil Over to take the match hostage.

  • @Tishus said:

Yep, that perk ######### up the game balance witch only made the game insane toxic. Most of the killer take a brake or quit so now the few ones are lobby dodgin resulting in 30 or 40m seaeching for games.

I'm now literally dodging any lobby where I smell a SWF because one or two more games like that and I'm done for the day.

It's bloody annoying and not in the spirit of my challenge, but it's that or just get griefed for the rest of my afternoon.

  • I've played 5 games today.

Two of them were a duo abusing this and a 3man SWF doing this.

You vastly underestimate how much people enjoy spoiling the experience of others, especially during events.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

I’m intentionally playing only survivor for a couple days so I don’t have to deal with it.

What's especially grinding about this is that I really wanted to attempt a fun new challenge during the event, and I've already had to discard two matches because of the butt turkeys doing this.

  • @supersonic853 said:

I have been on this same map....10 times! Im out of sacrifical wards and even if i had any id rather use the event ones! Anyone else been on this and rpd over and over and over?

    Yup.

It looks like there are groups running these plus either Exponential or No Mither and just sitting in the Library/Main Building to grief people with Boil Over, as they are literally unhookable.

    Philip Ojomo - Wraith

    Max Thompson Jr. - Hillbilly

    Sally Smithson - Nurse

    Michael Myers - Shape

    Elliot Spencer - Cenobite

    Carmina Mora - Artist

Imo I think I would easily be able to beat Hag she a twig for crying out loud. Try to place a trap grab her and snap her like a twig

About half are just dudes in a mask, so I'd stand a decent chance as long as I can choose where I face them.

Just give a few days and nobody will be using the perk. It's not even good on most maps. I wouldn't worry about it.

The only people who will be using it are newbies (who it won't help) and bully 'stall the game out as long as possible' squads, who will be exploiting it endlessly.

?????What happened to the challenge? Pinhead is not first on the list.

Currently putting together my builds on everyone, so I'll be firing up Trapper as soon as it's live.

    Whee!

They've disabled Haddonfield until it gets graphically updated - meaning we AREN'T going to suffer through a deluge of Strode Realty Keys every game, as people use up their stocks of this famously well-balanced and fair map! I didn't think they would do this and I am surprised, but appreciative.

Right now I'm more concerned about RPD and Boil Over, as I'm already seeing people running this and immediately heading to the Library to be literally unhookable.

  • I was wondering about this myself.

  • @concernedkiller said:

There is so much discord and tribalistic behavior in this community and many discussions devolve into an us vs. them mud slinging contest. Whenever someone brings up their feelings for one perk, someone's counter argument invariably is "what about X perk?". The problem with NOED and COH are that they are simply poorly designed perks that give one side a huge advantage while completely changing the dynamic of the game. Once a boon goes up, you can forget about applying pressure and then patroling a gen and in order to get any return on investment you have to commit to downing the survivor. On the same token NOED is a laughably overpowerd tool that gives killers a huge unwarranted advantage in the final stage of the game.

The real issue at hand is not the inherent balancing of the perk but rather the fact that these perks are simply nauseatingly tedious to play against. BHVR can tell us that these perks are behaving as intended, but despite what a column on their excell spread sheet says the sheer volume of complaints is proof that they are annoying to play against. Unfortunately the infamous Q&A did more to stoke the flames of resentment than to mollify the concerns of the overwhelming majority of the fan base. The Devs either don't care about our feedback or at the very least do a poor job of explaining their rationale. I know its easy to give back seat advice to professional devs but the smug arrogance and the palpable condescension makes me want to play CIV.

Let's talk about the balance of one thing without also talking about the balance of another, unrelated thing.

CoH balance does not impact NOED. NOED balance does not impact CoH.

CoH is a problem, but I'm willing to see how the nerf works out.

NOED needs a rework, as it's an annoying perk that leads to bad habits - but right now disabling Boil Over until the literal 'you can't hook me now' map areas are removed should be the immediate priority.

  • Haddonfield rework...yes please!

Hopefully this involves making the fences a bit less abusive, the hooks a touch more generous and getting rid of some of the silly loops and vaults.

    Do RPD next.

  • @Rizzo said:

Boil Over, like any other perk that received changes, will still be monitored, in case it needs tweaking.

I can tell you already - it needs tweaking.

It's not very good, but it's very exploitable. On some maps, it basically allows you to take the match hostage as you are literally unhookable from certain spots. I can only imagine the bully squads with sabos using this to meme for an hour until I go AFK and then reporting me for non-participation.

The only counter seems to be mass slugging and then physically walling people in so they bleed out. In some circumstances, it amounts to having infinite DS.

  • @hiken said:

the rest who did all gens are the skilled ones and will go up :(

Yes, but over time your skill will even out to more victories, and your MMR will stabilize at a higher level.

The same will happen to them.

I do think that SBMM needs to be more nuanced for survivors, but one match isn't going to shift your MMR much.

  • @Junylar said:

How to spot a "X-main" with a single question: "is the game survivor-sided or killer-sided"?

A pure killer man, who has never played survivor in his life, will reply "it's survivor-sided"

A pure survivor man, who has never played killer in his life, will reply "it's killer-sided"

A man of culture, who actually tried both roles, will reply: "it's SWF-sided, SWFs stomp killers, killers stomp solo survivors"

    Shrug.

I got stomped by a bunch of solos yesterday. Scratched Mirror Myers into Mother's Dwelling.

    I've also beaten SWFs hollow.

So much of this game is a blind card draw. If I bring the best perks and play sweaty into a bunch of solos running funky builds on DDS or Midwich, it's my game to lose.

If I play chill with a meme build into a bunch of people with stacked meta perks on Cowshed, I probably lost the game before it started.

I’m not sure if anyone made a post like this but I figured I ask anyway. But anyway I was wondering if anyone is going to play the Lunar Event? I only made the question because I was thinking maybe playing or skipping it. The reason why I mentioned about skipping it is I don’t really want to deal with SBMMS like everyone else because killer and sometimes survivor can be sweaty or even boring to play due to how the game works currently like others mentioned. I also Know that SBMMS won’t leave anytime soon. But anyway I just thought I share my thoughts on the subject matter but let me know what you are all planning to do.

I am. Going to be doing a funky challenge where I rotate through all the killers challenge.

    @[Deleted User] said:

I like SBMM when it actually tries to make fair matches. For whatever reason, it prioritizes queue times to the point that I end up with arguably easier matches than I had with the emblem system.

It feels like there are specific periods of time where it gives me the most even, exciting matches I've had in DbD.

Then it starts pooping the bed.

I'm hopeful that the backfill changes help with this, as I suspect it's a time of day where there are too many survivors, and thus a lot of long queues and lobby dodges.

    @Ribbles said:

There literally is no SBMM. I play at night and get matched with people that have 50 hours. Zubat has a video from the other day getting matched with someone that had 8 hours.

There is - the system just has some issues. The biggie right now occurs when someone (killer or survivor) dodges a lobby, and the system massively prioritizes filling that spot regardless of MMR. That's where you get a 10,000 hour pro matched with an 8 hour newbie, or me getting put against a full top level TTV premade.

The devs say they are changing this, and so I'll reserve judgement until then.

  • This isn't the first time BHVR have done some very odd things regarding Fog Whisperers and the like, but you'd probably have better luck talking about this on Reddit or something.

Regarding this specific event, I don't really have a clear enough picture for any sort of take.

That said, they've been pretty clear that they don't want this sort of discussion here.

  • @Junylar said:

We added Escape Based MMR which nobody likes, everyone opposes it and demands to rework it at best or to scrap it altogether at worst. We ignore it, because this game is similar to hockey, and one lead designer knows better than thousands of experienced players.

We added the disastrous map of Raccoon City, which almost nobody likes. People suicide and AFK on it, people "crash" on RPD offerings, it's pain both for survivors and killers. We do nothing with your complaints, the map stays for good.

We added ridiculous and frustrating hit validation to pallets and DH, it's been there for a year and counting, making people rip their hair in frustration every time they see a survivors scream but ignore the hit. Dead Hard itself is a menace. We are "looking into it"™, or do we?

SWF and "tunnel to win"-tactic have been infesting this game and ruining any kind of fun and balance since day one. We cover our ears and assure ourselves everything is fine.

But hey, here is the Lunar Event! Here are some skins and new challenges! The game is not dying, it's not! Go enjoy the new and fun content, we care about your enjoyment, we definitely do!

    ...

    Nope, no hypocrisy detected.

  • @Chimp said:

Spirit is a great killer that is fun for both sides. So why doesn’t anyone play her? Like I said, she’s fun, fair, and has interesting add ons that change up the way she plays. Her kill rate and pick rate has dropped significantly in this most recent killer stats chart which is saddening to see.

I guess I kind of do understand why people don’t play her anymore, it’s because of the nerf that barely impacted anything except the stand still mind game. It’s been 3 months since that nerf hit live and I still am doing fine with her.

I had to post this because I don’t think I’ve seen Spirit as survivor in like a month and that’s not ok.

I'm partially deaf in my right ear, so it's quite tricky to be consistent with her for me.

I enjoy her, but I tend to find that I have more fun on Hag, Artist, Demo and honestly Myers these days.

    Not sure why.

She has plenty of counterplay, has some decent music and is genuinely scary at times.

The only killers I really dread facing are Bubbas (due to their propensity for camping) and Huntress (just so, so tired of facing her game after game after game).

...Why would you play Bubba with NOED?

Surely Bamboozle would be the more consistent choice, to shorten that first chase?

  • @Ronin said:

!PLEASE KNOW THAT THIS IS MY OPINION, FEEL FREE TO DISAGREE!

My reasoning on why i believe she is an s is due to the fact she completely destroys the use of boon circle of healing, one of the most problematic/strongest perks currently in dead by daylight. Now you could say "what if they all clense" well then use her corrupt purge more then, easy solution, and besides, her corrupt purge is incredibly powerful on its own And if survivors don't clense then well its an incredibly easy to down. Last of all i know people are gonna say "she does not have the potential of nurse" or "she can't damage people across the map like the artist" but none of the killers that are considered S tier are able to make boon circle of healing completely useless, and if they clense then they are giving her a stronger power. Also, sorry if i have bad english, its my second language!

She's somewhere between top 'A' and low 'S'.

She's incredibly consistent, but has some bad maps and can really struggle if she gets a bad start, which holds her back somewhat. Her BP gains are also awful.

Seems like a lot of artificial, convoluted rules.

Not being able to kill survivors until everyone is on death hook is challenge enough, no need to make all these secondary challenge objectives.

You can tie your wrists, no need to tie each finger individually.

Shrug. You are free to do as you like. These are just the conditions I've layed out for myself, and exceptions as far as I can see them arising to prevent any ad-hoc concerns.

    @Pizzasauce said:

Okay, I got myself psyched up and started a day early. Here are some of my thoughts so far:

I'm going to be looking at BM's...namely, flashlight clicks, t-bags and hits on hook. (That last one will be on me obviously). I will be paying attention to tunneling and camping but I'm not completely disallowing it. (I don't want any situational play to be restricted.) Also, I am counting suicides and dcs as kills. Lastly, instead of playing one killer until I win, I'm going to rotate my killer each time, starting with Trapper and ending with the Artist. I will still be playing each killer until I win, but will be rotating instead.

    Phew.

    ETA:

So far I've played Trapper and Wraith, 4ks on each. I'm most worried about Blight. I'm trying to get to iri 1 and I'm already a week behind because of bans so hopefully this doesn't hurt my chances any more.

Other things I've decided to keep track of are match times and the challenges I'm currently doing at the time and how I am progressing on them through each match.

Have added an exception - someone teabags or flicky flickies you, all bets are off. Tunnel them out.

Oh that’s a really good tip thank you. It be much easier without the stupid cars. Lmao. He is also one of the best killers at going back and forth to the gates

Another fun one - on a lot of maps, you can shred off raised areas for incredible distance. With shred having a pretty wide hitbox at it's apex, you can also use this to hit people vaulting or even over low fences from absolutely nowhere.

One thing I like about Demo is that he can set up a defacto 3 gen, even if those gens are at opposite corners of the map.

I actually get cussed out a fair amount for this.

I see alot of demo's doing an ultra rare + barbs glasses lately. Almost every demo I have played against recently has an ultra rare on. And I do think that's probably his best combo; giving him a good balance of increased chase power and also having the ability to set up ambushes from portals. Indoor maps I sometimes double down on the stealth addons and he's kinda like a bootleg ghostface who can teleport around for free hits.

Glasses are great, but a lot of people sleep on his other addons.

His iris give him permastealth and incredible tracking.

The lighter gives you almost permanent blinds.

Mew turns Shred into a gap closer and allows you to fill the map with portals (combine with the lighter for hilarity).

Whistle+Lining turns portals into sonar stations.

He has a few useless ones, but compared to about half the roster his addons are fantastic for how many different playstyles they allow.

  • @Adjatha said:

Sounds like you're going to be trashing your rating until you get matched up against new players.

I guess that'd be a fine set of rules if your goal is to reset all your killers to minimum MMR without just going afk every game.

We'll see. I don't think it'll play out this way, with a few of my weakest killers excepted. I already play this way to some extent and I don't see too many newbies aside from situations where MMR poops itself.

    @chargernick85 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/306586/killer-mains-im-calling-you-out-a-lunar-event-challenge

I got you. I already play this way for most part. Exceptions are basement (which I will proxy if I hook down there) and slugging. If I see another survivor when i get a down I will at the very least chase long enough to hit. Slugging entire lobby I usually don't do unless I am twins (which btw is where this challenge will end) so won't have to change much.

Yup, slugging is totally permissible if there is another immediate, viable chase.

Proxying is fine, as long as you aren't hanging out by the hook or deliberately trying to force multiple hook states. If it's purely a matter of getting another chase, go for it.

  • @Advorsus said:

Let's say they did take into account hooks, and chase times, and everything else that people wanted added to MMR. What do you get from that? What do you get for high MMR? What do you get for having low MMR?

Nothing! Nothing happens. The only thing that changes is who you're facing. If you lose MMR, consistently, you go against less skilled opponents. And if you win consistently against opponents, you'll go against more skilled opponents. That's it, that's literally it. It affects nothing else in this game.

You're not out on grades, or BP, or anything. Even if half of you are right and you're Max level MMR, so what??? Who cares? Congrats you get absolutely nothing. And if you lose that you lose, also absolutely nothing.

    The issues seem to be:

    • MMR caps out too low, leading to imbalanced matches.
    • SBMM focused too heavily on queue times, to the extent it'll put someone up against opponents that they have statistically no chance against because one waited for too long. This is especially common in backfill situations, which the devs are changing soon.
    • Even a 'fair' match according to MMR is subject to too much RNG in terms of perks, addons, the map you go to etc.
    • At high MMRs, the meta is pretty stale and killer variety is low.
  • @deKlaw_04 said:

    https://youtu.be/NzBT4HqmmHU

Not many people play him but demo is so fun to play as and he was the best chase music imo. His shred is so useful at shack and in structures like these. Yes that me as demo. These survivors were good in game and after. Got a 4k when it looked bleak as I lost 3 gens with no kills lmao

@ThatOneDemoPlayer your the master tho lol

What's interesting about Demo is that basically everyone plays him differently. I go for massive mobility and use portals to come from weird directions, while others seem to like a 'battle demo' style.

Huntress, Slinger, Trickster are the three that are going to be tough for me I think.

  • Hitting on hook would be a good example, or leaving everyone to bleed out.

So you believe it is cause it leads to people being outed from the game?

    Believe it is...what?

How come you say camping, slugging and tunneling is toxic, but teabagging, clicky clicky are not toxic, huh? These are unfun, but genrush is not unfun for the killer? Sure...

    Simple.

Camping, slugging and tunneling are strategies. They are a tactic used to win the game. Hell, I'd say that slugging is essential at times (to prevent saves/DS) and tunneling isn't even really a thing (it's mostly a matter of 'hey, I keep finding you, play more cautiously').

Teabagging, flicking etc. serve no purpose aside from being nasty. They are usually used to gloat and disrespect your opponent when you win. I seldom see if from people who are losing (although it tends to be followed by me immediately tunneling you out of the game, so perhaps there is a correlation :D).

For offenses like verbal abuse you are only required to report in game, the ticket is not mandatory, but helpful, regardless of the language used.

This and more is explained in this post: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/139-game-rules

What exactly constitutes an 'insult' though?

    Toxic Mandy.JPG

Does it have to rise to the level of hatespeech?

'Cuss word cuss word babykiller ez noob l2p' strikes me as very insulting, but is not bannable.

Personally when tiering perks or considering things for the game, you shouldn't often consider a lower player playing with it. It would be like saying Nurse is bad because Jimbob with 10 hours is bad with her. Being good at the game and being able to take use things to their full potential is where things should be rated and balanced.

    'Lower tier' is subjective.

I think that the trick is considering the average player with it.

I think the average player gets screwed just as often as they win with streaky perks, which is what makes them streaky.

Yes, but that's how MMR usually works. It never looks at your skill, it looks at your results and assumes your skill. If you are a really good survivor and your MMR is lower than it should be, there is a large chance that in 100 games you will escape more than die, even if in some matches you will feel like you did really well (because you most likely did), but you've lost MMR it actually won't matter in the long term.

Reading your post makes me feel that you and many other people had unrealistic expectations towards MMR. Basically, you wanted mirrored matches. If the killer wants to have fun, let's pair them with non-sweaty survs that are also there to meme and have fun. And this would be.. AWESOME! However, I don't think currently this is even planned. The game is basically many times "won" or "lost" before the match before even started, because the killer is bringing the top addons, and actually doing a 50 win streak or because survivors decided to sweat with the most meta things and just rush the gens asap. Is this a fun system? I don't think so. And MMR is supposed to make it a little bit more balanced, but it still can't pair people with the same goals together. The same killer that sweats today, will serve drinks in the saloon the next day.

The devs clearly do not consider removing MMR, and the reasons can be different. First one, I think this system legit works better than the previous one, at least in terms of matching you with people around the same skill. Again, I wish we could some indication of a number or badge or smth just to see if we are actually getting better over the months, but well.

But the second reason: They are gathering an insane amount of stats using sbmm. Now they can actually separate data from lower and higher MMR and make good design decisions.

Unfortunately, I doN't think blindly looking at the data will cause a better game design, but I've been wrong in the past.

I think in the long term MMR does work. People really like to look at one game and say "it doesn't measure skill". Well, I think on the larger scale of hundreds and thousands of games it actually kind of does, but the thing is, no one but BHVR wanted MMR. And seemingly no one but BHVR is happy about it :D

I've seen a lot more 'fair' matches than I did under ranks. Not all my matches are fair though - either because I brought a strong killer with strong addons and perks versus newbies, or I'm playing Pig and got sent to Haddonfield versus a monster squad.

I think a lot of this comes from backfill issues, which apparently will be fixed soon.

I do think that SBMM is a positive direction for the game. But perfect is always the enemy of good, and the arch-nemesis of 'better'.
