I'm expecting another Pinhead nerf tbh. Low MMR Survivors artificially increased the kill rates, and then Pinhead got nerfed. It's going to happen again
What's really hairy is the implication, based on the Twins nerf, that they are now nerfing/not buffing killers that perform too well at low MMRs even if they are awful at high MMRs (Wraith, Cenobite. Pig) AND nerfing/not buffing killers that perform too well at high MMRs, even if their overall kill rates are terrible (Twins).
That means that killers are basically going to be screwed from two sides at once.

Pinhead is decent killer. He is not weak. And he can make game pretty slow. I am not surprised he has high rates.
Pinhead? No, not at all.
He's like Pig - his kit has a secondary objective which is deadly against very new players, massively inflating his kill rates. Any competent team that doesn't let you get many hunts off smashes him.
Pinhead is the epitome of 'if you're really, really good with this killer, he's somewhat okay'.
-
I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned.
With how incredibly (and at times, mildly insufferably) 'progressive' BHVR are, it's weird that they include as a mechanic in their game something that feels designed to set off photosensitive players.

The logic here is sound, but I'm curious- has it ever been raised internally that removing perk tiers would also allow for more freedom in perk design, as there doesn't need to be a scaling effect?
Not a question intended to be nasty, but I am curious. It seems to me like a stopgap solution that also has that added secondary benefit would be worth the time investment, though naturally, I'm not actually in the business myself.
This is another excellent question.
Perk tiers feel like an odd and outdated concept. It's also not even slightly universal, some perks are almost as good at T1 as T3, while others are useless until T3.
-
@Peanits said:
To go into details on that a little bit, removing them is not as simple as selecting tier 1/2 of each perk and pressing delete. In order to reduce each perk to one tier, you'd have to update the bloodweb to support it (and additionally, add support for any already-generated bloodwebs that contain perks below tier 3). Likewise, the perk tiers would have to be removed from the UI wherever they appear, and any place a tier 1 perk could appear (e.g. In the Shrine), you'd have to update it to show the tier 3 version of the perk instead.
So while it sounds very simple and can be said in a couple words ("Remove perk tiers"), it would actually be a substantial amount of work.
As for why it's not a permanent solution: Each time new content is released, not only does the amount of perks increase, but the number of characters you need to unlock all those perks on increases as well. Since you have two different factors increasing here, the grind is increasing exponentially over time, not linearly. Even if removing perk tiers would make it manageable for now, sooner or later it would catch back up and become a massive grind again. We've made changes in the past to reduce the grind, such as reducing bloodweb cost/size, adding additional perks to bloodwebs, etc. While these worked great in the short term, the grind always caught up eventually.
Would it reduce the grind pretty significantly for now? Yes, absolutely! But if we're going to spend a bunch of time on something to fix the grind, it makes more sense to spend the same amount of time and work on a permanent solution instead. (And for what it's worth, we do have something else planned for it!)
Long story short, it's not to shoot down the idea of removing perk tiers. It would reduce the grind, absolutely. It would just take as much time as a more permanent solution.
Understandable, but - to play Devil's Advocate a bit, it feels like you are asking players to deal with a very real and very annoying issue now for a hypothetical solution at some distant later date.
Why not, say, increase BP gains across the board by 2x until this solution arrives, in that case? This strikes me as very easy to do and an immediate and effective reduction in grind.

Sometimes I just don't understand how this game doesn't have a system to guarantee at least one item every bloodwebs.
Damn...
It took me 5mil to unlock BBQ on a specific killer, and he was already level 50.

Finally, CoH has been "nerfed". Or was it, really? now it takes an extra 4 seconds to self-heal, and extra 2 seconds to heal someone.
Yes, BHVR nerf to a perk that has been problematic since it was in beta was to add 4 seconds to it. No mention on cooldown to the survivor running it, no multi-floor limits, no token requirement, no permanent totem break after X uses, no. Just 4 seconds.
At this rate, I don't think BHVR will ever make DbD enjoyable for both sides. It sounds dramatic but it's clear they know little about what to do with the perks. I mean, they buffed Boil Over to add 25% wiggle bar after falling, did no one at BHVR stopped to think "Hmmm, maybe this is abusable in some maps, like in thompson house where survivors can go to the 2nd floor and prevent being hooked" clearly they don't.
I wonder what the future of Dbd will be when more devs take the chance at asym horror games.
It's...okay. At least it'll make it harder for a duo to literally heal mid chase.
@Tr1nity said:
Nothing pleases you guys, does it.
It's more that this is doesn't do much to really fix the problems with CoH. The issue isn't just the numbers, it's that the entire intended counterplay to boons as a whole is ineffective.

To answer that for you quickly, it's still something that's up for discussion. As you've mentioned, it would reduce some confusion, but there are also folks who absolutely do not want to see them removed.
In a perfect world, they'd stay there as some small form of bragging rights, like "Hey, look how far I've climbed this month." But since ranks have historically been used for matchmaking, that naturally causes some confusion for anyone who missed the memo. At the end of the day, there is no single right answer here.
Maybe just put a tip on the 'tip screens' - 'Grades do not have any effect on matchmaking'.

I've heard it's going to involve more than just reskinned generators, but I'm unclear what that will be. It's been different in past years - sometimes it's just gen reskins and bonus points, sometimes there's been gameplay elements. Always there's a few new skins and a couple of freebies.
If it's inflatable tigers that can block a hit, I'm out.

During the Q&A they said that it is difficult to remove perk tiers. Why?
Also they mentioned that it would not be a good long term solution, because the grind is increasing exponentially with new DLCs.
I agree that it is not a good long term solution, but it would be a good intermediate solution.
And a sidenote: the grind is increasing quadratically, not exponentially (with DLC releases).
Yeah. This one was a head-scratcher.
It's definitely a stopgap solution, but it would still be a massive help.

Heyo, opening this up for feedback and adding some context: The reason why we end up with a lot of "Soon" answers is because we take the most upvoted questions. In the past, we've cut questions that we aren't able to definitively answer, but we received a lot of complaints about skipping and dodging questions. Of course, like you've mentioned, some things either aren't planned or aren't slated to be released any time soon.
Our POV is that even if we aren't able to give the most satisfying answer, it's better to acknowledge the things people want us to talk about most than stay silent on them.
Genuinely, if you (or anyone else) have any suggestions for how this could be done better, please let us know. I'd be happy to change the way we do things for next time, but it's a tricky situation since there's a balance between taking the questions people want to know the answers to and picking the questions we're able to answer to.
These sorts of events are the definition of lose/lose. If you don't say anything, people will assume you are avoiding an issue. If you do say something, people will try to poke holes in it.
I'll be waiting for the full transcript though.

I like farming with survivors every once in awhile especially when theres an event and everyones sweaty or when there's an immediate dc. Usually when I farm I let all survivors go and let them heal a lot. By letting them do this so they can get points too and pip, 2 of my emblems are effected, one very much so (no sacrifices).
Apologies if talking about farming is against the rules, delete if needed.
I've found that Wraith, Mirror Myers and Doctor are really good for both farming and pipping. Plague, Artist and Hag are really bad at it, as is any killer with an instadown.
If I'm doing a max BP+Pip game, I'll try to get everyone on their last hooks, then just keep hitting them and letting them escape injured, usually killing 1-2 max right at the end.

For clarification on the killer stats their kill rates are on the left and their pick rates are on the right.
I really wish they'd do a bit of basic stats and eliminate both extremely high MMRs and 'new player' MMRs - because Cenobite and Pig look strong, but in reality I'm 99% sure that their numbers are being thrown off by how vicious they can be for new players to face.
Some other interesting observations:
- Twins badly need help.
- Cenobite and Hag are really rare still.
- Wraith's nerfs were too much, combined with CoH. He's strong versus newbies, so the fact that he's that low means he's essentially useless at high MMR.
- Demogorgon is played more than I thought.
- Myers and Doctor are surprisingly popular.
- Blight is much less popular than I thought, considering how often I see him.
- Freddy needs a total rework. Being that unpopular for an iconic killer, along with astonishingly high kill rates is just off.

I would've like to see the kill rate of all the maps.
Cowshed is one of the most survivor sided maps, I'm not very surprised about that. The second, third and four maps with less kill rate are Haddonfield, Badham and The Game, I'm pretty sure.
Midwitch is in general a good map for killers, not surprised about that kill rate considering the bad state of the killer in general (less than 3 average kills even in that map).
Cowshed doesn't surprise me. I'd agree with the other three, but I think Mother's Dwelling and Gas Heaven would also have very low kill rates.

If SBMM really is based on skill like the devs say it is then making it visible to see your skill improve is not toxic. Almost every game ever that has a system in place that ranks your skill doesn't hide it. It's visible so you can see your skill improve, how much skill you actually have, and to see if the system is actually functioning or not.
If SBMM is inherently toxic why do they rank your skill and have fair matchmaking in the first place? It makes no sense.
I think most people would like to see their own MMR.
Seeing everyone's MMR...I think that would be interesting, but also lead to a lot of nastiness.

So like MAC ban after reading a report? But still no word they are going to add anti-cheat programming to the game, like for example. If your character goes up to a certain height - force disconnect and ban. Or if it detects someone stopped the end game timer. Or if it predicts the flashlight bean is larger than the largest it can be with add ons. Or if a character is moving faster than they should with perks/instances.
Because that would be how deal with hacking, unfortunately a band aid fix isn't going to cut it when it comes to this level of cheaters.
It sounds like there is also an automated system, but naturally BHVR are loath to talk about it openly.
There was a thread earlier today where someone got auto-banned for, apparently, hacking the legacy skins a while back. My guess is that some sort of system has been initiated, in addition to fixing vulnerabilities.
We'll...have to see. I predict that the support forums are going to be fun for a while.

I think I have a high "mmr" or whatever that is on some killers like Nurse or Huntress and running some funny builds simply doesn't work. It already seems like a job where you have to eliminate 4 issues, using all of your skills
Take it easy then. Play chill, you'll lose a couple of games and eventually you'll find a decent spot. That's how it played out for me - mostly.
-
@Faishun said:
(A lot of stuff to read, but trust me, you won't disagree) Yes, DBD is not fun anymore for killers as it has been before. Behavior is nerfing, nerfing and nerfing killers so that crying survivors are satisfied. Whatever killer you are playing nowadays, 4 survivor SWF team with insane coordination, perks, map knowledge and mechanics knowledge overall will beat you.
I've started playing this game back in 2018 when Hillbilly's chainsaw did not have a cooldown, Nurse didn't have charges and MOST importantly, Deathslinger's super-ultra fun mechanics wasn't nerfed (now he cannot shoot real fast which makes him F tier).
Because Behavior understands that this game lives and survives due to streamers and 4 SWF teams that are enjoying the game. To make matters worse, 4 SWF teams are getting so bored with the mundane gameplay Behavior hasn't changed since release, and they just go and bully new players. I've been to all ranks, starting from 20 to 1 (old system) and from what I can tell, playing before as killer was way easier.
There's no wonder why survivor queues are taking so long, as almost nobody wants his day spoiled. This game is absolutely not newbie-friendly, especially as a killer. The only thing BHVR does is releasing new chapters, new skins. That's it. It works, why would they change something?
DBD is my eyes is dead. The gameplay hasn't changed since release which is about 4-5 years of "eating" the same stuff developers are putting into you. I want to love this game, but I can't. I always try to get back to it, but every time I do, it disappoints me even worse. Extreme toxicity, hostility and obsession to ruin your fun even comes to survivors putting SPOILERS of MANGA or other movies so that killers are SPOILED and in the end they just do the little squats at the gates (thank goodness I read manga).
The community of this game understands the issue with it, but no one wants to do anything about it, since survivors are having fun. This game needs an overhaul.
Recently I've been playing with basement trapper build, trying to have fun, but to my surprise, Dead Hard seems to be buffed for survivors and they survive after taking a hit (even if they moan, they don't go down) P.S. Yes, I know it is probably a dedicated server issue, but they don't want to fix it, cuz survivors are having fun.
I think I would recommend playing this game in 4 SWF party as it's intended, bullying the baby killer and insulting him in the end game chat. If I start mentioning matchmaking issues... oh boy, it will take eons to talk how bad they are.
I have fun.
The game can be really, really frustrating sometimes and how nasty survivors can be doesn't help matters at all. Plus - frigging every time I get a good start someone rage DCs and ruins the game.
You have to make your own fun I find. I like to play odd, idiosyncratic builds and set my own goals. I also try to keep postgame turned off right now.

Sincerely, many concerned dbd fans who've had to deal with cheaters for several months with no official word on the issue
I understand Patrick's reasoning behind not addressing the issue beforehand (Even if I don't necessarily agree with it), I'm just glad we finally got some feedback regarding this issue. There's still a lot to be done on the issue but once again, thank you
Breaking the silence is appreciated, even if it's not something the team wanted to do
From a thread earlier today - it appears that they are MAC banning people now. Which means that you'll never be able to play the game on that PC again.
It's a great start, and I look forward to my daily dose of schadenfreude reading threads from banned hackers.

So there is one thing about Pentimento, that i don´t understand. Why does relighting a Hex perk give no bloodpoints, when relighting a boon totem always gives 1500 bloodpoints?
Is there a reason behind this? Or just an oversight?
That's actually a...really good question.
-
@White_Owl said:
I own 29 survivors, but I end up play always the same. The reason is that he's the only one on which I poured the tons of BPs required to unlock all the perks. If I want to play with someone else I just have to use the few random perks they got or going through that painful grind again (and I'm already doing it on my killers, so I think I'm already suffering enough). Which is a pity, because aside from the fact that I paid for some of them, I really like some and would love to play them more and have more variety.
The point, though, is that I find this grind kinda acceptable for killers, since each one is unique and has their own set of addons, but on survivors all this grind feels pointless since they are literally skins.
I wish there was an earnable way to share the bloodweb/inventory between survivors.
The grind is pretty awful on both sides, to be fair. BHVR actually stated that they would be removing all perk tiers a while back, but that literally never materialized.

Ruin: sorry btw lol
bbq: just to track down and really use my ability with it.
undying: I’m also sorry for this. Another aura tracking ability that will work with my power.
bamboozle: now I was hesitant on this, I chose it because if I’m chasing someone and they non stop vault, I block it, use my power, but it’s just an idea.
It's okay.
If you don't mind, what killers/perks do you have available?
I like to do funky builds that are off-meta but still powerful, maybe I can cobble something interesting together for you.

It's one of those things that's going to be anecdotal, but I've definitely seen a difference.
Another good piece of evidence is Otzdarva's 'streak' videos. Before SBMM, he could do 100 win streaks without addons. Now he really struggles to do 20.

needless to say that i regret doing it in the first place, i regreted it immediately and pretty much never used it in fear of getting banned.
i've never gotten an unfair advantage over anyone in the game or behaved in a rude manner. i don't think that I deserve a complete exclusion from the game, what are your thoughts ?
YES!
If this is true, they are MAC banning now.
I'm sorry to say, but hacking has to be a zero-tolerance thing in DbD. It's such a plague and BHVR can't really say 'well, this hacking is okay, but that isn't'.

I...don't know about that.
I ran into a Russian SWF that brought Exponential, Unbreakable, two sabos, 3x further hook offerings and an Eyrie offering. The game - I actually like this map. if I had to choose a killer not to use on this map it would be Twins.
Mike, Ghosty, Pig, and Trapper - Don't want to see crow map or coldwind.
gas Heaven - also don't want with anyone. I just have the worst experience with this map. I can count on one hand how many times I have won on this map as killer. It's not even the worst map I just have terrible luck if I get it.
Shout out to Midwich - I find this map to be the most balanced overall for killers and survivors. Just my personal opinion though.
Midwich, Yamaoka, Dead Dawg are generally pretty fair. Shelter Woods can be very RNG, but usually fair. Asylum is decent on most killers.

...That's not a strawman, at all.
I can attest that as more of an intermediate player who prefers to play a bit chill, most of my games are way better than they were under ranks.

A system that struggles to find an equal opponent for you so much that it puts you against someone with a wildly incomparable rating is BAD.
You're phrasing this so weirdly. "Our rocket that doesn't fly to the moon totally flys to the moon, they just gotta fix the engine first. And the fuel injection system. And the faulty clay shielding."
Edit: It's also still a strawman dude. We don't need to draw any comparisons to previous or alternative systems to understand that the current MMR, as we have it, is BAD.
That's a pretty good example of a strawman. Or at least an analogy so faulty that it's pretty damn close to one.
He's saying that it's an improvement. He's not saying that it's perfect. No MMR system is perfect.
The issues with ranks were:
- Killers had zero/little matchmaking protection for much of it. You can confirm this if you look at my very earliest posts, where a dev responded and talked about this.
- Killers would get matched against a much wider variety of skills. This is easily confirmable by Otz's 'streak' videos, where he was able to get 100 wins with no addons while now he really struggles to get 20.
- It was so easy to smurf your ranks down that even fog whisperers were openly doing it.
SBMM isn't perfect. But 'perfect' will always be the enemy of 'good', and the nemesis of 'better'.

Yes.
Because here's what I think has happened:
When MMR first released, we figured out that the soft-cap is 1900 MMR points. Completely fresh accounts start at 1100 MMR points. For reference, Overwatch's MMR system is visible (mostly) and uses points. The lowest tier is Bronze, which runs from 1-1499 points. The highest tier is 4000+ points. These are very far apart. In OW comp, you get about 25 points per win. This means you need to win at LEAST 100 games in a row to get to the highest tier from the lowest tier.
It does not take very long to get to "high MMR" in DBD. High MMR is probably from around 1500-1900 MMR points. If the max points the Killer can get is 20 per trial, it's likely its the same for Survivor. So from the starting value of 1100 to the maximum soft-cap of 1900, it would take about 40 escapes in a row to reach. Not really that difficult. I don't know for sure, but I figure it's likely that the points you gain for escaping is more than you'd lose for dying.
So, tl;dr, the system was kind of working at first because it was mostly really sweaty players at the soft-cap or near it. Now that it's been out for 4 months, people have worked their way up the proverbial ladder or have been carried there. Meaning, 'high MMR' is basically just old Red Ranks. It means nothing, everyone is there. If you play the game enough, you'll get there. Which means it's exactly the same system as before, it's just hidden.
I really wish we could see our own MMRs, because that would make these discussions a lot less anecdotal.
All I can say is that, wherever my own MMR is (I'm guessing intermediate to high intermediate), it's...not bad for the most part.
Every now and then I'll get a pretty obvious smurf or an entire evening where my games are sweaty as hell, but - while these are annoying - they aren't typical.
Whatever SBMM did, it's made the majority of my games a lot more fair.

Yea starstruck agitation pain resonance can be very strong
Starstruck+Agitation+PR+STBFL on Doctor is so dirty you can only legally view it in Germany.

Seriously? With all the second chance perks survivors crutch on, including CoH, gen speeds, and the fact that hex builds itself are super bad purely cause of the CoH meta; why does everyone feel like noed is horrible?
Honestly I feel like this is the most extreme case of double standards. While I understand the whole "camp and noed" issue but with how bad sbmm is, noed helps the killer put pressure in the end game and not just give survivors free escapes if/when gens are done. The game isnt over until you escape.
As i pointed out earlier, with all the second chance perks survivor gets, why do we hate the only second chance killer perk?
This thread is a disccusion on why we should hate noed. Not an us vs them. While i understand the hate about whataboutism, pls keep your points about noed, but if you need to use other perks as an example, its understandable. And pls keep it civil. I generally wanna hear reasons why noed is bad.
Also pls dont say "it rewards bad gameplay" because we can all think of several perks that can say the same thing but the community doesn't hate them nearly as much, and that would just start promoting whataboutism.
I completely agree that CoH and Dead Hard are totally busted, but NOED is just a...frustrating perk. It's not so much that it rewards bad gameplay, it's more that it's just a pain to deal with as a solo player and can sometimes feel a touch unfair.
I don't think it should be nerfed yet, but I would like to see it reworked into something a bit more consistent and less irritating down the line.

Billy on RCPD. Billy on any indoor is bad, but RCPD... just yikes.
Myers on Cowshed. Though any of the Cornwind maps are very unpleasant for him. Super bright, loops ahoy, can't stalk through corn.
Trapper on Eyrie. You know that part where he's supposed to sneakily camouflage his traps in the environment? Yeah...
Woof, didn't even think of chainsaw killers. I'd hate to even try them on RPD.

RPD is pretty bad for almost every killer except Hag & a good trapper player.
Or Myers / wraith & Pig if they have their aura reveal add on can make it easier like most other indoor maps (assuming you know or can find your way around)
I've...learned to live with RPD. It's a horrible, horrible map - but it's just as horrible for survivors. Hag works okay there, but she doesn't really have many weak maps as is. Myers struggles due to the sheer size of the place, but it's fun ambushing people with him.
It's also weirdly decent for Cenobite, as people really struggle to deal with the box effectively.
Pig...yeah. Video and Ruleset #2 is a nightmare scenario for non SWFs there.

I think there is a bit of conflicting feelings for dear Amanda.
The first post is a meme.
I will say that, like Cenobite, she's a noob-stomper supreme that is nigh unplayable at higher MMRs. Her Ambush is just...dumb. Too slow, too obviously telegraphed, doesn't have the pallet-break effect that similar abilities on other killers have.

Yesterday I have thought of super evil idea on how to go afk when I want to eat or something.
Pig with Video Tape and just bodyblock one Jigsaw box. I wonder how many kills you could get from it and probably lot of reports...
Someone always DCs the second I use that one. If you really want to be evil, combine it with Ruleset #2. Unless it's a SWF, you'll cause complete chaos.

Dont use Sheep build (ruin+undying+tinkerer) but something like bbq, shadowborn, corrupt/pain resonance
If you using monitor for FOV, feel free to swap it for shadowborn. And Surge is a bad idea for Blight
Far too many people sleep on Pain Resonance. I'm using it on almost every killer now and while it's not quite as devastating as Ruin or Pop, it's so damn consistent and allows me to proxy 'kick' gens while immediately doing my next thing. Combine it with Agitation (and Starstruck on some killers) and you are a complete powerhouse.

To some sure but not to most. Maybe a lot on the forums but the forums tend to attract the complainers since they tend to be more vocal. Most players don't take the game that seriously.
That's not my experience in game. It feels like people rage DC the second they think they're in for a tough game, or are playing against some sort of 'pet peeve' killer, which honestly amounts to half the roster. This is especially true, bizarrely, of the more exotic 'mid tier' killers that require people to play a bit differently.
Artist, Doctor, Demogorgon, Cenobite and Hag are the ones that people seem to DC against very fast.
