True. That's the current tool being used.

However, I bet you could could off on your fingers how many spots BO can actually be used to create an unhookable location. At that point, it's incredibly niche. Not only that, but for those niche locations, the survivor with BO needs to stay around that location, this removing their ability to do gens elsewhere on the map, or help others around the map with anything really. And if you want to use the argument of "ok but there's more spots when you factor in survivors breaking hooks and body blocking!" Ok, that's just that much more time taken away from gens, giving you more pressure. It's the same argument for flashlight saves. And again tied into that, if BO wasn't what it is now, there's plenty of other ways (much more potent ways even) for a SWF to bully you.

Ultimately, the issue is not BO. It's that bully squads exist at all. If it wasn't BO it would be something else. This BO is a non issue, and when it is rarely an issue, it can be worked around

I've seen 3, and I can intuit two more.

If it truly is such an uncommon event, a very uncommon problem, then why does it need so much attention?

3/26 games where it affected you. That's a mere 3 games out of 26 that you'll have to slightly adjust the way you handle the game.

Even if it weren't BO, it would still be 3 games of bully squads that you'd have to change the way you handle the match in. Making BO a non issue, right? It just happens to be that they're using BO but it could have been anything else as well.

So ultimately BO isn't the issue, it's the bully squads to begin with. BO is just the current mask their wearing

BO is the tool they are using to be bully squads. And 3 out of 26 isn't nothing. If you got 3 hackers in 26 games, you'd be fuming. It's another version of the old 'you can't pick me up if I crawl between these two doodads' troll strategy, and I'm pretty sure you'd agree those spots needed to be fixed. Or...not?

The issue is that BO exists right now as a mediocre perk that only enables shenanigans. Get rid of the 'dropping' penalty and the issue is fixed. Rework it into something actually healthy for the game next time.

I haven't played pinhead much, played against him today for the first time since coming back to the game. How does his ability work? What do I do as a survivor when the chains are randomly getting me? How do I stop that or can't you?

    He's a complicated killer.

His active ability creates a small blue portal, that fires a chain. If it hits you, you get bound in place and have to remove the chains. You can also break those chains by pulling them through an object, or having someone else (including Pinhead) pass through them.

He also has a passive ability, where a 'chain meter' builds up around everyone. Once this fills, chains start attacking everyone. To end this, you need to find the box (indicated by a white marker) and solve it. While doing this, Pinhead can teleport to you, so be careful.

I had a game against a nurse that ended with the nurse getting first hook in the basement, 4 gens left and the killer decided to proxy camp the survivor, I decided to just quit, I wasn't in the mood for that type of lazy gameplay. I had another game where I had to wait for a demo to find the hatch first before hooking me, because he was afraid I would wiggle off, before any killer mains comment, no I did not have a wiggle build. I just can't figure out why killers are so desperate for 4ks, are the devs giving away cash prices, when did this game become so toxic, can I get a normal game without killers playing like there lives depend on it

Think about this for a second.

Camping is about as much fun for the killer as it is for the survivors.

If killers are finding it necessary to camp right now, could there be several recent changes to the game that make other strategies less viable?

Perhaps a reworked perk that now makes you unhookable from structures on certain maps?

Perhaps a souped up self care for the entire team that also allows a duo to literally heal mid chase?

Perhaps changes to the killer that weren't implemented well?

The killer is there to kill survivors. If it's realistic to do this in the standard, 'fun' way - that's probably what they will do. If they are taking a less fun route, there's likely a mechanical problem with your game.

Ok, so you'll see it in one of maybe 50 games. Oh no.

If you can give me an unedited video of 50 matches in a row where you're being "bullied" by BO, I'll take back everything I've ever said about it. Until then, it's a non issue that people are simply blowing up to ridiculous proportions

There is a name for this fallacy, but it escapes me. You are essentially asking me for ridiculously narrow 'proofs' for a fact that can be easily established by simply playing the game.

Something doesn't have to be common to be a problem. You may as well say 'show me an unedited video of 50 matches in a row where you face hackers, otherwise hacking isn't a problem'.

Doing my challenge at the moment, thus far I'm seeing at least one person with Boil Over in perhaps half my games.

In 26 matches thus far, I've had 3 bully squads abusing it with map offerings, which were genuinely frustrating games that took ages, and resulted in me gaining very little BP. I'd be pretty annoyed if I wasn't already Iri 1, as this would also make it impossible to pip.

  • @dictep said:

Please, don’t cry killers for everything everyday. You won’t see a boil over in a week. I’m sure killers main here only have seen it in YouTube videos. In about 30 matches I didn’t see any boil over.

    Zuh?

I'm seeing it in maybe half my matches. At least one person.

In 26 matches since yesterday, I've also seen 3 'bully squads' abusing it with a map offering to be essentially unhookable, forcing me to bleed people out (not fun).

Slugging = standing around doing nothing, almost no BP gained. If killers are forced to slug and bleed people out because it's literally impossible to hook them from an easily accessible location (IWOM tower, RPD library, Eyrie second floor) then something needs to be changed.

  • @Chimp said:

imho, I think triskster is the weakest killier rn, since MANY maps hard counter his power, and on controller, his recoil is so horrible, cause it is very hard to make all the small adjustments.

It really depends on addons, and to a lesser extent map.

Pig and Myers are really weak, but have some outright sadistic addons they can bring (which also probably throw off their kill rates). Their lack of a good anti loop tool means that you'll be eating every loop and pallet in the map.

Wraith is really, really bad right now. Even with his power against new players, his kill rates speak volumes. Against any halfway decent survivors, it's an uphill battle and basically unwinnable if they put CoH somewhere nasty.

    Legion is...Legion.

Trapper is amazingly bad on a lot of maps, especially the newer ones. The devs seem allergic to grass.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

edit: forgot to add, NA West, PST.

    platform: PC/Steam

Survivor BP gains are pretty crazy during this event, while killer BP gain is somewhat mediocre and some hooks just don't seem to award BP at all (Lery's has a few).

Survivors get free powerful toolboxes and flashbangs. Killers get nothing.

Then you add in the bully squads sending killers to RPD, IWOM or Eyrie to basically take the game hostage with the new Boil Over and anti-slugging perks, and yeah - I'm not terribly surprised killers have instant queues right now and survivor queues are getting longer and longer.

  • @Fuzzels said:

Y'all are kinda silly sometimes. Everyone's (obviously not everyone but enough of y'all) complaining and showing how boil over is breaking the meta and now as killers we have to play around it....

Ok, and? Is that not what y'all wanted? (Myself included) Break the meta for something new?

Players : "we want a new meta, were tired of the same thing over and over!"

    BHVR : changes the meta

Players : "WOAH! WHAT!? The meta changed and now we have to change the way we react and play around it!? This is BULLSHIT!"

    RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE

There's always going to be a meta. Always. Doesn't matter what the situation is, there will ALWAYS be a meta of some kind. Learn to play around it. Survivors change what perks they use to fit the current meta, so as a killer, change what perks you use to fit the current meta in turn.

Thing is - it doesn't change the meta.

Boil Over is still a terrible perk.

All it does is give griefers a tool to build bully squads around, or to stall matches out for ages as you're forced to bleed them out.

All survivors are getting access to are reskinned existing items. Flashbangs are the only unique thing since you otherwise need a perk to use them, but they are also 1 time use.

This is one of the more fair events gameplay wise and people are now complaining that survivors are getting items that already exist in the game.

Then give killers 'reskinned existing items'. I know I'd love a few more iris/purples on some killers.

Yeah I agree that killers need more for events. I’ve always wanted a confetti reskin of killer add ons for the anniversary event for awhile. But it’s not like the toys they get are particularly strong

Any stronger and it would be game breaking.

Imagine if, say, killers got infinite free purple addons from the event. You'd have endless complaint threads that Tombstone Myers was on the loose.

    @Crowman said:

I like how people act like survivors bringing kitted out items is only an event problem.

Yesterday I was excited about this event, now not so much. 😑

    It's...tricky.

Server side detection of irregularities on the client side, when that data is being obfuscated by a hack is difficult. This is how you end up banning innocent people because they had a lag spike, or some weird interaction with other software (I remember a catastrophic ban wave in Heroes of the Storm that caught a whole bunch of people because they had a specific sound driver).

There is also a limitation on how much a game can 'spy' on you.

It's insane to me that a game with such a big IP as this one has so many hacker problems still.

    Is it?

The issue is that hacking is a big money industry now. It's so incredibly sophisticated - unless your game is almost totally serverside (LoL, for example), you can probably buy a suite of hacking tools for it for 80 bucks a month or less.

Even massive E-Sport type games with proprietary anti-cheats (Starcraft 2, COD, Fortnite etc.) have had hacking epidemics.

Fortunately BHVR seem to be straight up MAC banning people now, which at least means that if you get caught once, you're never playing the game on that hardware again.

  • @Phasmamain said:

A flashbang and a green toolbox isn’t really amazing tbf

AFAIK that's pretty much the best toolbox in the game.

The issue is that survivors get a fun toy from a lot of different events, often quite powerful too (see: Snowmen) and killers get nothing.

People are already starting to complain about survivor queue times during the event, and I wonder if this is why.

Just curious about everyone's opinions on the buff to Boil Over.

I tried it out a couple times as survivor and the staggering effect seems really crazy, I felt bad for the killers who were carrying me. This one Artist that I went against couldn't even get through a tiny doorway when she was carrying me just because of Boil Over.

On one hand, I'm glad to see a terrible perk buffed.

On the other hand, this has made a mildly annoying perk absolutely frustrating to deal with. Taking out the coordinated squads abusing this to be unhookable on some maps, it doesn't have any real tactical value aside from 'I'm really really annoying now'.

    @Superyoshiegg said:

It's going to end the same way as Soul Guard, Power Struggle & Lucky Break, where people drastically overreact to it, but you're not going to see it used at all a week after the change.

It's not good enough to warrant swapping out a standard meta perk for.

    Think of it this way.

The '25% on falling' doesn't seem to have an ICD.

Some maps have areas (RPD library, Eyrie, IWOM) where 'multi tier' falls are necessary to hook someone, or impossible to avoid due to the shoving. This means that, if you simply run to this area, the killer has to slug you because you can't be hooked. If they try, you will always escape. Even Agitation doesn't really help here.

If you make a perk pretty bad - except for if you want to be a griefer - then only griefers will use it.

I remember when if you were more than 5 meters from a hook you weren't going to get to that hook unless you wanted to be DSed because you would have to drop the survivor every second to avoid the DS. Lots of people are using Boil Over at the moment because it has been buffed and it is exciting to get use out of a perk that was hardly ever used. I don't really see a problem with Boil Over if you just plan your route to a hook, avoid dropping down while carrying a survivor and if you are trying to use it on purpose just slug them if they are being irritating about it. I honestly don't think Boil Over will become meta and is just a short phase while it seems "shiny and new"

    • Something being broken and annoying in the past doesn't mean that something isn't broken and annoying now.
    • Whataboutism means you concede the original point.
    • The issue is that BO, on certain maps, can make you completely unhookable. If you combine this with anti-slugging perks, you can stall matches out for ages if you feel like being a griefer.
    • Otherwise, BO is still a crap perk. It's just crap and annoying now.

idk what youre doing as killer but bp gains have been great for me, this was one of the lower-end matches tonight.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HH97KX38FEBX/image.png

idk if you know this or not but it's worth noting as killer you get 2k uncapped bp for each unique hook you use- if you hook a survivor on a hook you've used before then you won't get anything.

I thought they were changing that this time around?

That said yes, I misunderstood how the BP gains worked. When I noticed the disparity, I started testing without the envelopes XD.

There are still some hooks that aren't rewarding BP, I definitely found a few in Lerys.

    Also...that name.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

A genuine question, actually- are you 100% sure you're also using the Red Envelope offerings? Because they cause a substantial increase in BP gain too- through the random amount when another survivor opens your Envelope, to the 4k/5k (can't remember exactly) when you reveal it. They also boost current gains through hooks + gens- without an envelope, a generator completion will only grant 1k instead of 3k, and with an envelope a hook will grant 2k instead of 750.

Our experiences seem to differ massively and I'm really interested to know why.

Aha. This explains it partially. There still seem to be two issues in play.

    • The hooks are supposed to apply the BP bonus on repeat hooks, but this does not appear to be working correctly.
    • Sometimes hooks just completely fail to give the BP bonus at all, even on the first hook.
  • The current event is so messed up for killers (hooks not correctly awarding BP, and the BP values tuned so low that you're going to earn half of what survivors do even on close games you win), plus the Boil Over shenanigans - it feels like the April Fools event is already here.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2771283#Comment_2771283

I'm not bothered by this part, actually. The envelopes give hilariously high amounts of BP to everyone and killers have an advantage to finding them (survivors waste tons of early game time if they try), killers earn way more than survivors do on average, and also, you're going to get more event hooks than survivors will generators. You figure each survivor is only personally going to be there finish maybe 2 gens unless they were jockeying.

    That hasn't been my experience.

4 survivors, meaning that the second I head towards one, it pops before I get there. I've managed to get 2 envelopes in 16 games today, and that's with me trying to prioritize them. Wraith can't even open them without decloaking.

Play a few games, note the BPs after. You'll see what I mean, and why I'm legit fuming right now.

  • @Crowman said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2771260#Comment_2771260

Killers should certainly get more BP from the event stuff, but I don't think the event itself is unbalanced since the envelopes have very little effect on actual gameplay.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2771269#Comment_2771269

Tbh, BP not working sometimes seems like a bug. Events never get tested on PTB, because the devs want to surprise us with the event.

I also feel like 750BP is also a bug, because I could have sworn previous events gave killer larger BP for event hooks.

Like I have issues with things the devs do, but I don't see this event as one of them.

When a bug goes live for an entire day of a very short event, causing one side to get almost no benefits and the other side to basically double their earnings, that's not a bug. That's someone very deliberately sticking it to someone else.

There's also a pattern forming here. Remember the snowmen? Yeah.

I'd be curious to see what survivor queues are in a few days. When I can lose a game as survivor and still completely outscore the killer on BP gains - that's ridiculous.

  • @Trickstaaaaa said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2771255#Comment_2771255

That only works with a smart solo Q team. Or with decent friends. And even so the killer can just slug, or ignore you and take out the team. And even if the whole team has the same idea they are a basically most likely what I would call a "goofy squad". They just plan on messing with the killer and throwing the game.

You can basically take the game hostage and not only win, but force the killer to AFK or DC. With a little bit of coordination, it's literally impossible to hook anyone or keep them slugged.

Until this is fixed, as well as the ridiculous disparity in BP gains from the new event (which honestly needs to be retrospective for me to be happy about any changes made now, survivors get double what the killer does, if not more) I'm honestly not at home to any balance complaints from survivors right now.

That may sound mean, but it is what it is.

  • @Laluzi said:

Once more, absolutely none of the PTB feedback was acted on.

Boil Over is now the next hot troll perk - still completely useless for anyone looking to play Dead By Daylight normally, but can be abused in several maps, especially with oak offerings, to basically replicate the old Breakdown bug and create self-pickup slugfests in unhookable areas. Such zones include RCPD library, Eyrie of Crows, Dead Dawg Saloon (potentially), Thompson House, and god knows what mischief will unfold on Haddonfield because that was disabled in the PTB. Again, I want to stress that this perk isn't good, and can't even be used on most maps - it's 100% going to be troll bait.

Dead Man's Switch can be effortlessly camped by Artist, which lets her facecamp someone to death and prevent gens from getting any progress, or force a hook trade in which she blocks the gens again. Doctor and Freddy also have the potentials to be game-stalling monsters with this, but Artist is the main problem case.

Gearhead's aura is harder to see than the old version of the perk even if the trigger conditions are better.

Buckle Up and Furtive Chase are still 100% useless. Wake Up and Distortion are still 90% useless.

And unsurprisingly, none of the addon nerfs were reverted. Mikhail's Eye needed to be 35% instead of 50% zombie movement speed because Twins are monsters at high MMR.

Why do we even have a PTB if absolutely none of the feedback is taken into account? You might as well just release everything to live immediately and then patch it in three months if something's busted, because that's what happens anyway.

If you really want to get annoyed, do the math on the BP rewards for the event, or take a look at the BP gains in the postgame lobby.

It's deliberately tuned to give killers almost nothing, while nearly doubling survivor BP gains. 750 BP on a hook (which doesn't even work half the time) compared to 3000 BP for a generator being done. That's...honestly, I'm not sure how to feel about this aside from insulted.

  • @Pulsar said:

    Yeah, those are little things.

..... But they're things. The killer doesn't even get those little things. It's sad, bud.

I think having a massive BP buff for survivors that expressly excludes killer (the hook BP feels like almost a deliberate insult) isn't a little thing. It feels really meanspirited on behalf of the devs.

  • I do. The envelopes don't really give that much unless you can collect them (and survivors will always be there first, because there are 4 of them).

    The issue is that:

    • Some hooks are not correctly awarding BP.
    • The BP gains on hooks are insanely, ridiculously low even when they do work.
    • Survivors can deny you BP.
  • @solidhex said:

...and if you can't win with Blight, Artist etc. right now i have to tell you that your MMR level is too high. Everyone is going for envelopes, this event isn't fun as solo survivor because your team isn't doing gens and is running into the killer straight from the beginning just for a stupid envelope. DMS is insane on high mobility killers, i mean the recent Scourge + Pop meta was already good enough, now the healing boon got nerfed (rightfully), but please don't complain on the forums because in 1 of 20 matches you play against a sabo squad with Boil Over. This game is definitely winnable for killers right now, if you play well enough.

I believe you're supposed to get event BP even if you use the same hook so if you're not that might be a bug and why you aren't getting as much BP. Maybe double check with Mandy but I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be the case.

    @bm33 said:

Each gen completed all survivors get 3k event BP so that's 15k BP if all 5 are completed. Then there's activating and the claiming of envelopes - some might be claiming more envelopes than others.

Are you sure you are definitely getting event BP for every hook? I'd say save your games and then watch the play back for scoring events to make sure they are popping up for every hook.

After some more testing, this is what's happening:

    • Some hooks are not giving BP at all. This does not appear to be related to how many times it's been used, but it's difficult to tell for sure.
    • Hooks are only giving a pitiful 750 BP. Compared to what survivors get from a gen (3k), this means that - even if it works properly, I'll never get close to the numbers they can even if I win (750x12 isn't even 10k).

The event toolboxes are reskinned toolboxes that already exist, there's not an innate benefit to the toolbox besides the fireworks on hitting great skill checks.

The fireworks are one time use blinds that aren't the easiest things to use.

The extra BP has no effect on gameplay. If anything survivors are spending extra time at the start of the match doing envelopes instead of gens which is a slight benefit to the killer.

Far better than snowmen from the last event.

It's 6 of one, a half dozen of the other. Snowmen were annoying, but so is everyone having a stacked toolbox.

So… it is working as intended and is just pretty powerful in specific situations and not actual game breaking buggy?

doesn’t sound like a killswitch situation for me..

but I guess some adjustments might be coming in the upcoming patches that usually follow such an update.

If that's working as intended, then I think the devs and I are on a very different page design wise.

This is still pretty weak, and only useful if your goal is to stall games out forever, to grief the killer.

I'm quite surprised that you are in favor of this.

  • @Mooks said:

What? So would you also argue the game is outside of events killer sided because they are earning generally more BP than survivors?

this event is pretty neutral. Well, actually it gives killers some extra info since they know that a surv must be in the area when an envelope aura is disappearing.

    No.

It's survivor sided because they get top tier toolboxes for free and killers get literally nothing. It's snowmen all over again.

The BP gains are the cherry on top.

    @bm33 said:

Aha. This is what it is.

    3000 is stronk.

I think I'm getting event BP from (most) of my hooks, I am making a concerted effort to use different ones.

This, only basically the opposite. Those 3k gens Hella Hella add up.

Yeah will see what the game I'm heading into looks like.

In 3 games thus far, I've been 10-20k behind the highest survivor on a win, and 30k or so below on a loss.

  • Argh, yup.

Playing a crazy game, had 2 dead and 2 on death hook, 1 gen left.

    BOOM, DC.

Not actual hostage situations as there is still the bleedout timer and the ability to slug?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2771111#Comment_2771111

probably same time as updates, so 17 CET? But that’s just a guess, can’t really remember if that’s been the case for tomes

These groups either use No Mither or Exponential and sit in one of these areas at the last gen. You can't really slug them unless you also sit and literally camp them out, which is a miserable experience.

If you fall off a ledge while carrying a survivor, they get instant 25% wiggle progress. There's no height minimum; if the fall would activate Balanced Landing, it actives Boil Over. Taking the shortcut into the basement causes it; falling off the step at The Game's exit gates causes it.

Naturally, this resulted in a lot of map offerings and survivors running to areas that were already pushing it to reach a hook.

It also doesn't seem to have an ICD, so on maps with 'tiered' elevation, you can trigger it multiple times in very quick succession and instantly escape. Eyrie is the easiest to do this on thus far, but I foresee Pantry being even worse.

I've only played a handful of games but so far at least it seems like it's fine. Every time I've played (as survivor or as killer), the killer has outscored everyone.

Going to play a few more and see what the numbers look like. It was a Plague game, who doesn't tend to do well BP wise - will keep an eye on it.

Hey, man, they are allowed to abuse whatever perks they like. Just be glad most people think these perks are bad. So it is quite rare to run into a rare specimen that understands the game well enough.

There's a difference between 'allowed to' and 'should'.

When what you are doing is actively designed to make the game unfun for other people, then it's probably something you shouldn't be doing, even if it's not against the rules.

what killswitch? the perk is working as intended and therefore the killswitch won't be activated.

It's being used a lot by coordinated squads on certain maps to take the game hostage. Either it, or the maps are going to have to be disabled, otherwise it's a green light to griefers. It's easier to just tweak the perk than totally redesign the RPD library and the Eyrie central structure.

  • @Afius said:

It shows up in the loading screen but not in the actual game. Is it getting released tomorrow?

    AFAIK, yep. Tomorrow.

That said, woof - is it going to be a miserable time until the Boil Over killswitch activates.

    stop blaming players, blame devs.

i'm using perks in a game. i think it's busted. i think it's dumb. but devs breed it and create it. it's not a player's fault for using perks, it's a dev's for making them when they've had many opportunities NOT to.

if i were going out of my way to BM or act toxic in endgame chat, that's a different story. then you can shame a player, because that's on a player's behavior, but that's not what I'm doing. simply using boil over in a swf is not bullying, it's just abusing awful perk design.

When you are going out of your way to abuse something, to the point you seem mildly ashamed of it - that blame is on both you and the devs.

Otherwise, it wouldn't be as much of a problem.

  • I'm having a terrible team. Incredibly mean survivor squads, either DCing on first down or abusing Boil Over. Tons of absolute 'wat' matchups, making me wonder if SBMM was tweaked or something.

  • @Haddix said:

been abusing boil over in a swf all day, very fun.

people say it's not a big deal because nobody runs it, but...that doesn't stop YOU from running it and ruining a match for a killer.

but hey man, I'm having a good time. i don't mind at all.

People like you are legit making this game worse for everyone. Just...don't be a massive bully. Is that really so difficult?
