I seen people compare this two perks but imo i don't think they should really be compared

I think bt is a better example than ds since ds can only be used once per trial and pop can be used multiple times but same goes for bt it can be use multiple times.

I think a better example for ds is ruin since they can only be used once when used unless the killer has udying

    Just thinking weird stuff

Neither of those sets of perks can really be compared. Honestly, contrasting survivor and killer perks...doesn't work, because survivor perks are invariably pretty simple and low risk/low yield, while killer perks are more complicated, high risk/high yield.

PGTW...didn't need a nerf. At all. Especially now that the PRAgi style exists as an alternative. But meh, it's still a solid perk on killers with traversal.

DS needed a nerf because it wasn't an anti-tunnel perk, it was a straight up extra life.

BT needed a nerf because it was absurd.

I have NOT played Dead by daylight since November of last year. I come by to see if they do anything different with the game. But My reasons are as FOLLOWS:

1 ) Penalties for people that lose connection to the server.

    • - I played this game on business trips. Not always does the hotel Wifi stay connected. I am told not to play the game if I don't have a solid Connection. So i don't play when I am away on business. Otherwise I use to play it all the time and try and buy DLC so I wasn't bored while having to wait for my next meeting.
    • - When playing on a stable, wired, home connection. hackers do not always mean I will keep a solid connection. SO it is too high of a risk now to play this game.
    • - I made the suggestion for Casual matches and competitive match modes. Where competitive has penalties and Casual does not.

2 ) Hatch changes. Last chance escape methods were REMOVED from the game.

3 ) locator perks for the side of the killer needing to be REMOVED.

4 ) Hit registration - I was going to say this, but I found out it is NOT BHVR's fault. There is an ongoing issue across all games, which is caused by VPN users.

5 ) Slugging and face camping NOT addressed.

6 ) I can't get new players into the game because the GRIND that they require in order to gain perks and level perks up.

    7 ) Item nerfs.

    8 ) One-sided metas exist.

9 ) too bright and "cheery" now. This game use to be really scary. It use to be DARK. I realize that people had darkness adjustments in monitors. but to solve this, horror games use "fog of war" to limit rendering distance. In order to keep players from taking advantage of this.

    10) perks for killers that helped them Close gaps and end chases were NERFED substantially. I do feel that killers deserve to WIN chases easier in some aspects.

11 ) excessive reworks of Killers that perhaps were not really needed.

I did try the match maker that was put in. I didn't have issues with it myself.

I think that just goes to show why there is a substantial amount of Q time for survivors right now. I myself don't have a desire to return to the game and stream it. That is why I do NOT play Dead by daylight anymore, and that is at 1,889 HOURS played and a few DLC's purchased. If something Changes. I will be back to play killer and survivor 8-10 hours per day again like I use to. If not, I am playing other game titles until that day.

    1. Thing is - those penalties have to exist. Someone playing with a bad connection might need a time out to fix their stuff, otherwise it's making the game miserable for 4 other people. Casual/Ranked never really works outside of massive games and usually just causes issues. DbD has long queue times for some roles at certain times of day as is.
    2. Hatch is fine as is. It's still a perfect last chance escape method. Keys were changed, and needed to be.
    3. Why? Of all the stuff to complain about, I don't get info perks.
    4. What? How is it caused by VPN users?
    5. Face camping is indeed an issue, but a nearly impossible one to solve without breaking the game completely. Slugging is not an issue unless the killer is just leaving people to bleed out, out of spite. Certain killers (Twins) are almost entirely built around slugging.
    6. Yes, absolutely.
    7. Like...?
    8. Like...?
    9. This game is already absurdly dark on some maps.
    10. There aren't many (any?) gap closer perks as far as I know. I agree that some killers (Onryo, Pig, probably a few others) need substantial changes to their basekits to help them deal with loops.
    11. I disagree completely. Wraith rework was perfect (didn't need a nerf imho). Plague rework was even more perfect. Pig needs more help, as does Myers (as well as a few addons toned down) and Twins.

Right now, bizarrely, my queue times are consistently longer on killer outside of primetime.

    A. It wouldnt, many other games have this without any que issues.

    B. You disable the unranked mode for ppl that have a certain devotion level (account level). Would also reduce the amount of players to be split from the ranked mode.

    C. Ye they will never admit it xD

    A. Name three.

    B. Why do you think this would fly? All that would happen is people over the cut-off line would either complain about it until it was changed, or make smurf accounts.

Well we did just get Artist. And even if she is a total snoozefest to play she is probably A tier. I kinda wish an iconic licensed killer would be stronger than this though. She DOES bring good asthetics and music at least.

Her condemned mechanic is what is holding her back, for sure. Until someone finds a good way to cheese it (probably involving the iri videotape) it's basically a worthless addition to her kit that they can't make too much stronger without it being busted.

'A tier' is where all killers should be, imho.

Artist is an example of good design. She's easy to understand, but has a nearly infinite skill cap. She's powerful without being broken.

Honestly, Condemn isn't the big issue with Sadako. It's that her stealth...sucks. She feels like she should be a sneaky jumpscare killer, but actually plays more like Pig.

    And no killer deserves that.

After all these years, still have'nt managed a way to deal with campers.. "body blocking" is classed as greifing but Hook campers is not. yea well done.. honestly

How are campers griefing? I don't like camping, I think it's a cheap way to play that is zero fun to go against - but it's hardly griefing.

I also agree that BHVR needs to make it less effective a strategy (they agree too) - but the question is: how?

How do you 'fix' camping without breaking the game?

Instant teleports with independent cooldowns. That's about it.

I can't for sure say her addons are bad yet though. As I said, iri videotape seems really solid.

Well water means you can probably run most shorter loops with no red stain. Telephone would mean they are hindered during it too.

Remote Control + Mother's Comb could be pretty dirty, allowing you to identify and tunnel video carrying survivors.

Bloody fingernails I hear makes getting hits straight out of the TV much easier.

VCR would probably be super solid with dead mans switch, etc etc.

I would say once those are confirmed to be bad, then I will definitely say Demo is the king of teleporting killers.

Those teleports seem instant, but are incredibly telegraphed and actually have a pretty long 'where is everything I can't see anything' moment. They also have an obscene cooldown and due to the bizarre spawn logic on TVs, may not put you anywhere near a gen.

Her addons aren't bad by any means, but Demos are much better - not only in terms of raw power, but in opening up completely different playstyles to him. A bunch of hers feel like stuff she needs basekit tbh.

But that's what I'm saying. She brings...nothing to the table. Which is why I'd say she's C tier at the highest. And a new killer being this bad is a huge step back, because most of the C and D tier killers are at least earmarked for a rework.

  • @toxik_survivor said:

Would you rather be looped to oblivion or have to go half way across the map. Ether way this is a game about running from a killer. Not trying to sound disrespectful by any means, but their is always an exuse that people come up with that is "bad for the game"

    *Looks at survivor name.

Uh...okay. I'll take this with a pinch of charity and see if I can respond properly.

It's not an all-or-nothing scenario. When people talk about the 'Hold W' meta, it's not just running away. This is more about using a strong loop up, then just dashing to the next safe loop. Some maps (Badham, especially after it got buffed (why?), Swamp, Eyrie and Game among others) are especially prone to this, where multiple strong loops can be chained together to form something pretty close to an infinite at times (the boat+log on Swamp is the easiest example of this).

It comes down to the fact that people are just...better at this game, meaning that killers need more tools to bypass loops rather than chasing people down, which survivor players don't seem to enjoy - which in turn is how we ended up with Sadako released in such a sad state.

  • @The_BiggCheeze said:

Had matches as survivor (Which I don't play often) Got a good amount of escapes, not so many deaths. Now I'm playing killer, playing as the Onryo. First 2 matches were easy, 3 kills in one and 2 kills in the other. 3rd match comes around and I can't do a SINGLE ######### thing to prevent gens from flying. Again, something is clearly ######### wrong, but sure, we'll take it.

    How's yours been treating you?

Here and there. I've had some really good matches recently, and some awful ones.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2842358#Comment_2842358

Both of them are visible stealth killers who need to approach generators meticulously. So the way you move them around the map is very similar; moving LOS blocker to LOS blocker until you can finally get on top of the gen you were approaching. Assuming that's even possible at the gen anyways, there are some you should just give up on. The gen at the top of dead dawg saloon comes to mind.

I'm still saying Demo is better than Onryo. Double iri Demo is just soooo insane for the hit and run / ambush playstyles. And you can actually hide the portals and come from unexpected angles. His above-average chase power means you can easily follow up on the free first hits too. Legit I wonder if I should even continue putting points into her or just buy more Iri's / Black Wards on Demo.

I will have to see what creative things I can get up to with her addons. Iri videotape + fingernails seems like it would be good. The telephone might be good too, although I suspect the hindered amount is a pittance like 3% or something.

    Yes and no.

Demo is actually probably the most analogous killer to Onryo now that I think about it, and is lightyears better in literally every regard.

    • His undetectable is better (why does she need a lullaby?).
    • His addons are better.
    • He has a decent anti-loop tool.
    • His traversal is better, due to it's shorter cooldown and control.

If you contrast her with GF:

    • His undetectable is better (same reason).
    • He has an instadown ability.

But okay - let's flip this around. What does Onryo bring to the table that other killers don't bring better?

  • @Risky12 said:

Out of 20 games so far, I've only managed to get a full condemned survivor twice.

Her power is niche and her special traits (condemned) are kinda of a let down. Just go play PH he's much more reliable.

    Mm. That's the thing.

Aside from her admittedly good visual and audio design, there is absolutely nothing she does that other killers don't do infinitely better.

If you want stealth+mobility, Wraith has equal if not better mobility, an anti loop in the form of his dash and actually effective stealth.

If you want stealth+lethality, Ghostface has proper undetectable status (why does Sadako need a lullaby?) and an instadown.

On top of this, she has some incredibly janky design elements, what feels like it should be a decent secondary objective/passive slowdown that is mostly just completely ignored and is easier to loop than Pig.

I've played 15 games with her now, and she's C tier at best. I've played against her twice, and she barely made an impact. I don't think anyone got more than 2/3 condemned in either game, and the games were a 4out and a 3out respectively, with the 3out being me giving her a pity kill at the end.

  • @OpenX said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2842261#Comment_2842261

I would say Legion, and Pig if RNG is not in her favor. If Legion doesn't get a lucky chain frenzy and is only injuring 1 person at a time I would say he/she is definitely the worst killer. Pig is strictly worse if some people get the traps off on the first or second try.

She's about on par with Pig, imho. Pig's slowdown is way more effective than hers, but she lacks the traversal.

Legion is worse - but Legion is earmarked for a rework.

She probably reminds me most of pre-rework Wraith - add traversal and minus his gap closer.

  • @Cameragosha said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2842316#Comment_2842316

You need to go play some Ghostface then lol. If you get good at him you will get good at Onryo, since they approach gens the same way. Wraith is probably more similar but Ghostface has to actually get up to the gens undetected to use his power.

Or maybe change your build? Stealth killers excel with information perks. Then you can make the determination if it's worth the extra ~5-10 seconds taking a wonky route to a gen to get a free hit.

I was getting tons of hits at gens with her, and a decent amount of "free" jumpscare hits during floods of rage. I definitely stacked up on indoor map offerings during the leveling process since those will be her best item.

I play a fair amount of GF, and the two aren't even...remotely analogous. Ghostface has the ability to instadown, which means that you have a way to bypass getting looped, not to mention proper Undetectable status (the combination are what make him so interesting to play). And he's not even remotely a good killer - which is why he's getting a rework.

Yup, running a lot of info perks. She's fine in Midwich (but what killer isn't) and okay in Lery's. RPD is bad for her due to the fact that her TVs can spawn in bizarre, completely useless places. Open maps...she may as well be an M1 killer with a long cd teleport.

The killer she feels most analogous to is pre-rework Wraith. And that's not a good thing.

  • @OpenX said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2842232#Comment_2842232

One makes her not visible at a distance, the other makes her flicker longer while undetectable.

I would not pick those myself, they help her get the first hit which she is already good at.

The mirror and the newspaper help you get the second hit, which is where she struggles.

I'm saying that they make her stealth feel 'right'. Without these two, there is maybe one or two situations every game where my stealth feels like it does anything.

They aren't crazy strong, which is why I'm suggesting to just bake them in.

    @remoirel said:

condemn isn't meant to kill survivors its meant to slow people down by choosing to turn off tvs to prevent her map control. Idk why people in this community think killer powers like condemn and reverse bear traps should be killing people left and right for barely any effort

I'm having way too much fun playing as this killer to even warrant thinking about buffs for her

I'm not saying that condemn should be 'killing survivors left and right for barely any effort' (if you are confident in your assertions, why strawman my position?).

I'm saying that as a slowdown/secondary objective tool, condemn feels like a lot of work on my side of things for a negligible effect. I've seen someone hit max condemn perhaps twice in 14 games, and that's with me actively doing my best to make it happen. I almost never see anyone bother with videotapes at all. It feels like a big part of her kit does...approximately nothing unless you are on maybe 1 or 2 specific maps (Game, Midwich).

  • @AnchorTea said:

"A lack of any sort of reliable anti-loop tool immediately makes her extremely mediocre. If you get sent to Eyrie, Ormond, Swamp or worst of all, the newly buffed Badham"

Her having no anti-loop is part of her, and its alright if a killer doesn't perform as well on certain maps than others.

I must disagree strongly with this. 'You may as well AFK if you get Badham' is not good design. And having a killer with no anti-loop these days without some sort of extremely strong other mechanic is basically saying 'this killer is intended to be bad'.

Why do you want a killer to be bad?

    @OpenX said:

Watch and hair? Isn't it old newspaper and mothers mirror?

I feel like actually being invisible while approaching gens doesn't matter in a lot of cases since you can get all the way up to them from behind LOS blockers. They are also totally useless if you are just teleporting on top of a gen.

I am pretty sure newspaper and mirror actually help you mid-chase by hiding your red stain for longer.

I forget which does which (currently loading in so can't check) but one makes the invisibility portion of the phase longer and one reduces her visibility radius.

  • @Gamedozer7 said:

There is some really bad placement. On the swamp I've had one over in the corner by nothing both times I've played it and it's happen quite a few times on other maps. The worst though is when the TV is facing a wall and I find it happens often.

I just had a match on the game and 2-3 TV were facing a wall.

    Yup.

That's not even the worst of it.

It's entirely possible for TVs to spawn on a different floor to the gen they correspond to, rendering that TV basically useless. You can see this on RPD and Lery's in particular.

I've played her 13 times now and played against her once.

She's...not great. It's not as if there is some sort of wrinkle to her kit that's not fully understood right now. She's basically an M1 killer with a slightly smaller TR and a long cooldown traversal ability. She's...Freddy with better addons.

Stealth killers generally have tools in their toolbox to somewhat counter SWF. Wraith has complete invisibility from far away and partial invisibility from nearby, he even gets a speed boost when uncloaking to help with some of the loops. Michael and Ghostface have insta-downs so even when stealth fails they still have lethality. What does Onyro have? Everyone says map mobility, but I disagree with that. When I versed teams that were well coordinated, all of the TVs near any area they were in were always turned off. Sure I knew where they were because I was paying attention to where my TVs should be, but I wasn't any faster at getting over to them.

Blights generally my main, could you imagine if there were just parts of the map where I couldn't use my power if the survivors injected themselves with Pestula, do you realize just how bonkers that sounds, but that's what happens with Onyro, they can just neuter her of her power, and what is the trade off. That they can then offer themselves as a mori when it is the most convenient for them, when they're full health and on their death hooks anyway?

Not to mention the fact that TVs can spawn on the floor above/below a gen, rendering it almost useless.

She feels like she's desperately in need of a short 'dash' after she demanifests. Right now, all someone needs to do is take me to a strong loop and there is approximately nothing I can do unless they make a serious mistake.

  • @ThatOneDemoPlayer said:

    Beware, long read ahead

After playing Sadako for a while, I've realized that, she's not that bad, she's pretty good in fact.

Let me start this off by saying, I'm not the best Onryō player in the world, I'm not using her best build and I don't know how high my MMR (if it even works) is, this is all just based on my experience AS, not against, the Onryō.

Here's a quick explanation on the Onryō and her Power:

Sadako is a weird one. She's a Hit N Run stealth Killer, able to 'manifest' and 'demanifest', like the Wraith's Wailing Bell, without anti-loop with TV's "randomly" (they almost always spawn next to a Generator) scattered around the map.

They grant her map mobility and some info whenever a Survivor is within 16 of it whenever Sadako teleports to it.

Here are my opinions on her Power/s

Her TV's allow for amazing map control, especially when you have a 3-Gen.

Her manifesting is ok, not the best stealth Power but it's good enough for sneaking up on people. It can also be used during chase using the passive phasing, tho it's pretty unreliable.

Her Condemnation is where she falls short. It doesn't reliably get Survivors off of Generators and it builds up quite slowly, only building up of a Survivor holds a tape or if Sadako teleports on top of a Survivor 7 times.

As with any M1 or Hit N Run Killer, Boon: Circle Of Healing hurts her quite a lot.

    Here's why I think she's pretty good:

The Onryō has an amazing 3-Gen, if not one of the best. With the way TV's usually spawn, a tight 3-Gen is guaranteed to have atleast 2 TV's nearby, if not all 3.

Sadako has a guaranteed win, if she manages to kill 1 Survivor before ~3 Generators get finished. Why? Once 1 Survivor is dead, that means that's less hands on Generators, which means Sadako has a better chance of winning the 3-Gen attrition war, but also less hands that could heal and counter her Hit N Run.

The Condemnation comes in clutch during the attrition war, as Survivors are more tightly packed together, but also means that Survivors are more likely to get off Generators to use the tape, meaning there's a chance of catching them in a bad spot and finishing them off.

Sadako has a kit that synergizes well with some of the 'meta' Killer Perks, but also some lesser used ones

Info Perks, Barbecue And Chili, Tinkerer, Discordance, are, as expected, really good on her, as her teleport is map wide

Slowdown Perks, especially Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, work really well with her teleport too.

Some more 'off-meta' Perks I'd like to mention that I've used, or would like to try on her:

Nurse's Calling is a Perk I'd like to mention, as her stealth Power works well with it, but it was a bit unreliable during my playtime as Sadako.

Fire Up is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's not good, but the small speed boost feels nice. Brutal Strength would be in the same boat as Fire Up

Coup De Grace could work well with the Bloody Fingernails Add-on, tho I haven't yet experimented with it.

Since I mentioned Add-ons, how about we have a quick chat about them?

They're fine, they're nothing special, Ring Drawing, Yoichi's Fishing Net and Cabin Sign are the ones I used the most, but they're probably not her best Add-ons.

So those were my thoughts on Sadako after some more playtime

My impression after 10 games on her...I must disagree.

The stealth feels...iffy. It's more like the Spirit's passive phasing - once I'm in range, it doesn't feel much different from walking up to them out of stealth. Watching a bit of footage, it's usually very obvious where she is and what she's doing.

Condemn feels negligible for the most part. I've got someone maxed out once or twice, and it's pretty simple for them to evade me until they can drop it.

Her big thing seems to be traversal, which is awesome - but the TV spawns are bizarre on some maps. Often they get placed on the floor below a gen on indoor maps, or in a position where you can't really close effectively.

A lot of her power feels like it's been shunted into her addons (she reminds me of Pig and Wraith in that regard) with a handful of browns and yellows that feel like they should be basekit.

What really hurts her is a complete lack of anti loop tools, which above a certain MMR makes playing her rough.

I'm going to keep playing her and this may be like Cenobite, where I just need to get a feel for how to play her - but compared to Artist, she feels...lacking.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/313412/sadako-im-not-sure-i-understand-this-killer

that is why i said she is C-tier killer. your probably facing 4 man SWF with stealth killer. to be polite, stealth killer are not exactly stealth killers when facing a strong swf. they end up being M1 killers because their stealth is countered by communication.

with that being said, I have been doing gen grabs with her in some instances which is hilarious to say the least. difference between solo vs swf.

Watching some footage, C tier feels about right. If her invisibility/phasing was a bit more potent that would actually make her feel about right.

It feels like a huge amount of her power is dependent on her addons.

Are we playing the same game? Survivors very rarely play loops, they will pre-drop go stay at a point of absolute safety within the loop or find an opportunity to move to another loop. (and that opportunity is anytime that you attempt to mind game a loop)

This is what I've been seeing against her too.

    @GrafSchalke said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2841760#Comment_2841760

interesting. We hear almost nothing until she´s within 10 meters at max, more like 8 meters. The "demanifested" animations lag behind her actual position about 1 meter, and suddenly she´s manifested at a whole different position. We´ve had several occasions where she just popped at a gen or in a loop, even though the survivor looked into the direction she came from. So either there´s a bug with demanifested animations, or they all were hacking 1 hour after release already 😂 😉

TVs are nearly silent, so you can barely find them, even on an open field map

Interesting. I wonder if she was using addons (I know there is a very sexy yellow that does something along these lines). In terms of how survivors react, it doesn't feel like there's much difference between me being demanifested and just walking up to them.

  • @Paozilla said:

So Sadako has been out for a day and I've barely played 10 matches with her and almost every team I get is very sweaty and runs meta builds and have thousands of hours, given the killer only just came out so my MMR should be lower than on other killers so its a pretty glaring problem. Maybe if you guys had a MMR system that made sense (instead of ONLY caring about kills and escapes) then this wouldn't be such a problem. All it's done is made me move onto another game for the evening so if that's what you want, good job.

As far as we know, SBMM puts any 'new' killer you own just underneath the MMR of your 'best' killer. Why this would be is anyone's guess.

    @ThatOneDemoPlayer said:

SBMM is just weird and inconsistent, often focusing on short queue times instead of good, balanced matches

There are extended periods where it feels like it's working properly, then it dumps you against the same 10000 hour SWF team twice in a row.

Have you tried tunneling more? Works wonders for me.

What are you doing differently with Sadako that's making her so much more difficult to play? She's basically a stealth M1 killer with Freddy's mobility and a little Pig tacked on to the side.

Stealth M1s are my favorite, so playing feels like a breeze, but she doesn't have mechanics that are particularly convoluted to learn a la Nemesis, Artist, or Pinhead. If you're good at your M1 game, you can just pick her up and play.

Might be my favorite killer now. Best aesthetic in the entire game by a mile.

I'm not finding her stealth actually works as stealth, for starters. The second I start closing, they know exactly where I am seemingly and using it mid chase feels pointless - people still loop me perfectly.

Just need to get my head around her kit (which is fine). Oddly, Nemesis, Artist and Pinhead all came pretty naturally to me. Just need to figure out how exactly her stealth operates and what purpose it servers - because outside of long distance approach, it feels like I may as well stay manifested. But I'm also playing against pretty good survivors today.

I don't mind losing while I learn. It's the gloating and sheer obnoxiousness of people that makes it feel sweaty.

That's just how it is with popular online games, there's a reason why the best gaming communities (Doom, Terraria, etc.) are all offline games.

The Lost Ark, Final Fantasy and Starcraft 2 communities (mostly) are really great. League was fine after they inserted the Tribunal. About the only game I can think of close to the sheer unpleasantness of this game's ingame community is GS:GO - and when I'm comparing you to the CS:GO community, that's not a good thing.

it never worked on any lullaby killer, so I doubt it.

Mm. Was just watching Otz play her and he's adamant that it's a TR, not a true lullaby.

  • Oh mate - maybe a silly question, but does M&A reduce her 'lullaby'? Apparently it's actually a straight TR (so...maybe works), but I'm finding zero information on this and it's impossible to test.

  • @Alice_pbg said:

you see... first you possess a video tape. that shows some weird things related to you.

then you get the survivors to watch that.

then they die in a week.

    that's the strat.

tbf, I like the ju-on strat better. "you got into my house for any reason? YOU DIE!!!!"

Ju-on was great, but I actually enjoyed the western remake more. Scared the absolute hell out of me.

Man I miss that era of pretty solid J/K-horror remakes. Love those films.

Here’s my number 1 advice when playing Sadako: play Spirit instead.

Yes, but that's your advice for everything.

    'Play Spirit instead'.

    XD

  • @ThatOneDemoPlayer said:

You want to approach from the sidelines, being unpredictable is Sadako's middle name. You also want to Hit N Run and tunnel at the same time, as Sadako pretty much has a guaranteed win if she has a 3-Gen and atleast 1 Survivor dead

Mm. I'm trying to play her as if I was a mirror Myers, but I'm not exactly sure how effective her 'invisibility' is (and the survivor POV footage available is spotty at best) because it's as if I were a standard killer - I'm getting looped perfectly as if they could just see me.

  • @Steel_Eyed said:

Be a little thoughtful about how you approach survivors. Walking down the middle of the map towards survivors is a common mistake with stealth killers. Approach from ‘odd angles.’

I tried. Came from behind walls etc. The second they hear the lullaby they are on guard, and it's as if I'm playing an M1 killer - as soon as I'm in the open, they know where I am and can safely start looping me.

Playing a new killer with 2 perk slots filled with level 1 sub optimal perks against a full meta team

the fact that you have to grind game after game after game just to get the desired perks so you have at least some chance of winning against a good team is so disheartening

the grind on this game is still abysmal and with every new chapter it gets worse and worse

I’m sorry but a 1.5x BP event every now and then just isn’t enough, we need a complete overhaul of a frankly outdated system

And then getting put up against a crazy 3man SWF with fully stacked meta perks and an Ormond offering, who proceed to teabag you and spam flashlight macros until your head is ringing and then tell you to uninstall your life in postgame.

I wonder why this game has a problem retaining newer players...

  • I'm guessing he's talking about double lockers, which on most configurations can allow a 100% unavoidable flashlight save. I've had survivors do this to basically draw a game out for ages - if they know what they are doing, you're looking at an extra 15-20 minutes of frustration.

  • @dugman said:

I played her last night four or five matches. I had a good time, she actually seems to be one of the better feeling stealth killers! 🙂

A funny thing that threw me off sometimes was her lack of collision combined with stealth meant survivors occasionally go right through her when you run up to them before you Manifest, either by accident because they didn’t see you or because they did a spin and just went right past you.

I'm also not convinced regarding the effectiveness of her stealth. Survivors seem to know exactly where I am at all times even though I'm demanifested.

That sucks so much. I haven't gotten BBQ either, but spending 2 million Bloodpoints and not getting the Perk you want? Sounds like hell

Directly after typing this, I got it and got T2 the next round. Just over 2m BP. Also - no DMS, no Ruin, no Pop, no Devour. Going to be playing her now, love stealth killers and love Ringu so if she's fun I'll likely main her for a good while.

I think when you get a new killer it starts them at the average of your other killer MMRs or something like that versus assuming you are a brand new player.

Is that true? If I recall (and I may be mistaken) new killers are pegged directly below the MMR of your 'best' killer.

Demogorgon is keeping me somewhat interested,Sadako aswell, which I plan on playing until I get all Perks on her

46k CURRENT PLAYERS AS OF THIS MOMENT PER STEAMCHARTS

THIS TIME LAST YEAR, DBD WAS AT 35k

Yes, there was a drop off after the ALL TIME HIGH after the Resident Evil Chapter. EVERYONE knew that would happen. New players would flock to check the game out. Some stayed while some long time players left. This is not uncommon in games such as this. Every game as a service model has peaks and valleys. Look at PUBG for a prime example. By no means is DBD "losing players at an alarming rate". As I stated IN A SIMILAR THREAD YESTERDAY, if there was a 15% drop in player base compared to this time last year, sure I would raise an eyebrow but, numbers don't lie. Now I fully expect to see the same thing happen numberwise come join this year. I'll even put money on it.

God damn I hate these forums do much. This community is something else I swear.

It's not a doompost, at all.

It's just a trend I'm observing. Currently we are having a spike due to a new DLC dropping, but the last 6 months have been in the red - the longest 'falloff' period in DbD's history. Clearly something is going on.

It's still kinda cool since behavior can even get creative with licensed characters but the ice outfit for ghostface is going way too far, even the blighted one.

    But...why?

This game isn't 'lore accurate'. It takes a bunch of famous killers and a bunch of novel ones and sticks them into a fantasy world. Some get mutated and become 'blighted'. Others change in different ways, as the Entity's realm twists their nature.

  • @TwistedTripwire said:

Hey guys, this is my first post so sorry for any mistakes I make.

I’m a relatively new killer main, I basically only play killer (not a big fan of the survivor playstyle). I’ve been playing for a little over 3 months now and there are some things I just wanted clarification on or to have some kind of discourse about.

I realized that there are a lot of unwritten rules in this game, all of which seem to be directed towards killers exclusively. I don’t really understand the concepts of tunneling and camping, in a lot of the instances I’ve been accused of doing these things I feel like I was just playing the game in the way that makes the most sense.

The game has mechanics that actively encourage me to do things I’m apparently not supposed to? It feels like survivors are often relying on me to follow some kind of “killer code” because I notice them making many decisions that make no sense to me then they flame me for doing things that, in my mind, only make sense.

For instance, if I just hooked someone and can see another survivor approaching the area or hiding nearby to unhook them and I patrol the area I’m apparently “camping”? You’ve made it incredibly obvious that you are going to try and unhook this person, am I supposed to just play dumb and walk away?

Another situation is when a survivor will unhook their teammate right in front of me and I’m expected to ignore the injured survivor and chase down the uninjured one? I don’t see how that makes any sense, but apparently if I go after the obvious target I’m “tunneling”?

I’ve even been accused of tunneling by chasing already injured survivors who may or may not have been unhooked, even when I was nowhere near the hook when they were pulled off. Am I supposed to just ignore the injured survivor or something?

It feels like I’m expected to actively act against my own interests or I’m somehow a terrible killer and person. I only ever see these types of rules directed towards killers, I never see any rules for survivors.

Should survivors intentionally mess up generators to alert killers to their location? Should they only drop a max of 2 pallets during a chase? Should they only vault one window during a chase? Should they not flash bomb or flashlight killers who are carrying a survivor? Should they not drop pellets on killers trying to pick up a survivor? Should they allow themselves to be downed when they’re injured and on the final hook stage?

Of course not, those requests sound ridiculous, survivors would be actively playing in a way that makes no sense for them and goes against their interests. So why are killers expected to do it?

I don't intend to come off as rambly or ranty, I just genuinely want to know why the game has these unspoken rules and why I'm expected to follow them or be considered a bad player.

    I completely understand.

Killers are expected to abide by a lengthy, inconsistent list of things to do and not to do - and if you violate this, you get people DCing, AFKing, cussing you out in postgame and posting nasty things on your Steam wall.

On one hand - things like facecamping are crappy and genuinely unhealthy for the game. On the other hand - survivors don't have any sort of rulebook, unspoken or otherwise.

It does feel petty and unfair at times.

Between this forum and Steam forums, I've had conversations with over a hundred people that quit due to MMR.

Myself, it's why I quit playing. The matches were almost instantly absolute sweat fests. MMR changed the game, especially for killers. There used to be a few sweaty matches mixed with laid back fun matches. MMR laid waste to those laid back matches. It is a poor way to measure skill and matchmaking.

Added to game balance (looking at you BCOH) and hacker increases and the game is unbearable.

My experience has been somewhat different. I started right when killers had their matchmaking protections removed (likely due to insane queue times as survivor) and maybe 2/3 of my games as a very new player was against red/purple rankers, people infinitely better than me or people smurfing. Smurfing was so easy that even some FWs did it openly to get 'more fun games'.

    It was miserable. Absolutely awful.

Now, as what I'd guess is a high-intermediate player (at least on killer), barring the current MMR issues (seriously, maybe 40% of my queue attempts end in a 'Matchmaking Failed, Timeout created' error) I'd say that 3/5 of my games are at least somewhat evenly matched. 1/5 are against people much better than me, 1/5 are against people much worse than me. It's not perfect, but it's...better.

The thing about MMR - it makes the game better for the majority of players (who are new-intermediate at best) while making things perhaps a little rougher on the veterans, as they'll be more likely to face other veterans. If you keep stomping, in time you'll have to play sweaty to keep winning and eventually to maintain a 50% kill rate. That's...just the nature of the beast.

Before MMR - well, those epic 100+ win streaks came at the expense of a lot of frustrated survivors.

    Hackers..yep.

  • @VikingDragonXii said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2840340#Comment_2840340

I'm not saying the game is balanced in the least. What I'm saying is if a Killer plays sweaty enough then they will stomp survivors making it look like it's Killer sided while in inverse of that if the Survivors play sweaty enough it will look like it's Survivor sided.

Most maps are definitely in the Survivor's favor with the amount of safe tiles that can spawn next to each other, to the shear size of some of the maps, to even the spawn placement of Gens, Totems, and players.

For example we all know Haddonfield is the most Survivor Sided map out there, while Midwich or Wrackers Yard is more Killer Sided. If BHVR would balance the Maps and everything that goes within them that would fix a good chunk of the balance issues.

I'd hesitate on Haddonfield. It's an awful, awful map - but Badham (especially with the infinite back), Eyrie and Swamp with certain log spawns can honestly feel worse against a good group.

But you are right - Otz put this quite well a bit back. A lot of the issues with this game come from it basically being a game of blind counters. You play a meme build into a stacked SWF, you're going to get teabagged all the way to the exit gates. You play a stacked Nurse or Blight into a team that wants to meme around, you're going to wipe them out at 5 gens.

  • @GeneralV said:

She is strong enough! It feels like it is a lack of expierence playing with her.

    I don't think so.

Intuitively, her toolkit is a mess. The 'condemned' mechanic feels superfluous (and makes it harder to get BP/pip with her, but that's true of all 'mini mori' killers).

Her stealth is flawed because of the lullaby, meaning that by the time you close in, survivors are already ready for you. You don't have the surprise Wraith does.

A lack of antiloop means that maps like Badham, Swamp and Eyrie are very difficult to play against experienced survivors because they'll run you for minutes on end without much you can do, especially if they are smart about predropping.

  • @Random123 said:

Imagine you are just starting a game and there are 50 killers, 50 survivors and more than 400 perks, I dont know even how many addons on every. How will u play this game? It becomes even tierying for current survivors, not to mention new ones. And even current survivors dont play every day, so new killer releases are made too often.

Trickster is a garbage? Like really? Try to play against him in almoset every coldwind, shelter woods wher u actually dont need any skill as killer to win in those maps as the result of lacking obstacles! Mayb killer isnt a garage but your skill? Maybeget gut? Becaus I've seen VERY good tricksters!!!

And to add new killer, when she comes out of her power so fast, that survivor even dont see or hear her! How can you play against someone that dont hear and see? ######### is wrong with you.

    Shrug.

I started about 2 years ago, there were still plenty of killers and perks. I figured it out as I went. At least now there are more viable perks and builds than then. If I were starting now, I'd go 'wow, look at all this cool stuff to learn and explore'. I will give you...half a point, in that the grind in this game is ridiculous and needs a change.

Yes, Trickster is garbage. Statistically, his kill rates are pretty low. He can down someone pretty reliably, but it takes a long time and by then gens are popping. He also stinks in indoor maps, or maps with a lot of cover. Which is why so many Tricksters resort to camping.

    Regarding stealth killers:

    • Use your other senses. She has a lullaby and a period of phasing. Get to safety.
    • Use your knowledge of the game to anticipate her movements, much as you do with Wraith or Spirit.
    • She's like Wraith in that she's very good at getting the first hit, but struggles to get a second as she has zero anti-loop. Take the hit, run to the nearest safe loop, play accordingly. Make sure you heal as soon as it's safe.

My ping is less than 50 😅 It is just you that doesnt understand how game works BEHIND YOUR SCREEN!

Ofcourse. Next time we maybe do some tripple salto backwards to be able to drop the pallet!

I want to see your skill to be able to do those skillchecks against doctor or with huntress lullaby 😂 But it is maybe not about those skill checks as MAKING SURVIVOR GAME MORE DIFFICULT WHILE KILLERS ARE GETTING EASIER WITH EVERY RELEASE, KILLER AND PERKS! Last comment I am answering you

    Wut.

I'm a...terrible survivor, and unless it's a dedicated 'impossible skillcheck' build, I have zero issues with them and can easily land a Great maybe 33% of the time.

You seem to be playing against a killer with stealth, antiloop, Doctor shocks and about 16 perks from how I'm understanding your post. A killer that doesn't exist.

Maybe post which killers specifically are giving you hassles and we can help.

Twins was not garbage, BHVR nerfed them so much. They were fine.

    Trickster is garbage, i agree.

Pinhead is okey, i love him. He is one of the unique killer. But ofcourse he is not Nurse or Blight but i think he is not bad too.

Nemesis is okey but his zombies needs brain.

Artist is boring but she is okey too.

Sadako is fun but i think she needs some buffs too. But her teleport maybe, shorter cooldown would help.

Welcome back btw! You should be careful, next ban is permanent if i am not wrong.

I'm sure it'll come eventually but I'll be careful. Unfortunately humour doesn't always translate well from culture to culture, especially on the internets.

Twins may not have been garbage, but their design is awful and always has been. They rely heavily on slugging, which is about as much fun to face as it is to attempt.

Pinhead is...ugh. So much potential, but certain maps are just crazily frustrating. Teams that just predrop pallets and know how to juke your chains can feel untouchable.

Nemesis is a lot of fun - but yeah, zombies are awful and certain maps (looking at you Swamp) need to be fixed so that his tentacle strike works consistently over objects.

    I really like Artist.

What exactly is the problem with matchmaking?

There are a few posts in the tech forum. Essentially, you queue up, queue goes on and on and after a few minutes it just stops, with a 'The matchmaking process failed. Reason: TimeOut Created' message.

It's been happening for about 2 weeks now on my end.

  • @Random123 said:

New killers are temporarily fun for one side - for survivors it is a disaster every time and it is permanent! Last 4 killers including this "Oreo" thing is like "ohhh..not this ######### again" every match you get with them! ALL my friends are saying the same!!! And new killer comes with new perks and ideas, so...It seems like DEVs want to make "ready to get 4k without any skills" killer. While for survivors it is getting harder and harder, including killer perks on auras, penalties and survivor slow downs ect. Now this new gen skillcheck system! Seemingly trying to make easier life for killers and harder for survivors!

I understand BHVR wants profit and new killers are the reason, but guys...imagine how hard it is for new players to start this game and how annoying it is for most survivors? IDK - maybe make DBD as a yearly subscription or something. Figure that out. Instead of this chapter nonsense.

Many ppl think this ship is sinking! Too much ######### in this game lately and STILL YEARS with the same problems survivors ask to fix...guess it is too much for dead-hard, hit registration including lag compensation that doesnt work, INVISIBLE objects around shacks and other objects you stuck on! As we don't ask nothing new, but just for things to work FOR BOTH SIDES!! Survivors want to see legit hits on their screens too, not just killers! In this case we are arguing with each other making this place so toxic, but instead this is a DEVELOPER issue that they can't or don't want to fix. Oops - DEVS are busy making a new killer, in between 'reshaping' some cosmetics.

I read this a few times and...nope. I still have no idea what you are trying to say.

    A few things:

    • Aside from maybe Artist, none of the new killers are high tier. Twins are garbo, Trickster is garbo, Cenobite is...okay but not amazing, Sadako is mediocre.
    • Adding new content to this game is where BHVR's profits come from, and ideally helps shake up the meta a bit.
