One of the biggest missing "archetypes" is a Killer who can disguise as a Survivor for the "The killer was someone you knew all along" kind of thing but SWF makes such a concept impossible most likely.

Yeah, this is true. It's a huge pity, because the sheer amount of fun this could be is amazing.

One of my favorite moments of all time is when I spotted a conga-line of survivors all crouching through the bushes as Pig, and I quietly joined them...

That's the internet and they should have a disclaimer for it so it wouldn't be flooded by snow flakes.

    Also this is a fix.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/XFXK29DUSWQH/image.png

The internet has changed a lot since the days of DOTA, and in a few ways, for the better. It's now quite normal for games to have anti-toxicity tools, usually partially in the form of moderation.

Fortunately, it seldom bugs me that much (particularly since I don't enable endgame chat unless it's been a particularly good game and I want to say GG), but I'd bet dollars to donuts that a lot of potential players are put off by the general mean-spiritedness of this community at times. And that's not good for anyone.

  • @glitchboi said:

The devs are clearly running out of power ideas for killers, but there's definitely a large variety of killers to add other than the power.

I'd love for them to focus on the killers already in the game, and slow down on the chapters.

Mm. At least half the roster is badly in need of a serious rework, we need way more cosmetics for killers and the last two killers have both felt very rough around the edges.

Sadly though, BHVR rely a lot on new killers to generate income.

I kinda don't wish for that when playing with my girlfriend but I understand why it would be in place.

Shrug. I play a lot of Heroes of the Storm with my wife, and I totally accept that we have a massive coordination advantage that other players likely don't. I really don't mind it, and we tend to do really well regardless as our standard tank/assassin or support/assassin pairing (she is inevitably the assassin in that equation).

Perhaps. All I know is from my experience in other pvp games, developers do not want stacks to throw a hissy fit once they realize their opponents are higher mmr to compensate for the fact that they are grouped. A lot of people perceive it as a "punishment" for playing with friends. Albeit, the practice is very standard. So I would be extremely surprised if we didn't have something like that in DBD at the moment.

I'd perceive it as a necessary step towards fairness, If I was a survivor main. And with maybe 2/3 of killer complaints on the forums still being at least tangentially about SWF, I'd like to think that BHVR wouldn't just sneak something like this in.

If I was having a bad day I wouldn't be playing something that supposedly triggers me on the daily basis. I'll just watch a show instead.

If a game's community is so poisonous that it needs a disclaimer like this, then that's a community that needs an urgent enema.

I hate this term, due to how hard it's been co-opted by the woke patrol online, but...yeah. When I hear someone defending toxicity in games, and then say 'well, I don't do it, but...' what I think is 'yeah, you know that you actually do, and enjoy it so much that it would detract from your experience if it went away'.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

We are missing just about every classic horror monster. Vampire, Werewolf, Mummy, Swamp Monster, and Frankenstein. Heck, robots/android or aliens or demons. I want someone in a monster suit, like Godzilla, but obviously not actually a kaiju.

As for licenses, Jason and Chucky are the only a-listers missing. But there is plenty of room for some other lesser icons like Pennywise, if you ask me.

Swamp monster would be fun. Do a Swamp Thing tribute, and do a 'planty' style swamp creature.

Mummy...I guess Vommy Mommy isn't far off.

An interesting concept, that I don't know how it would work, would be an Abathur style 'Hive' killer - being mostly stationary (possibly gigantic) and instead fighting and messing with survivors by proxy/spawning units. Possibly difficult to work into DbD's chase-heavy mechanics, but it would certainly be unique.

  • @ShakeyGames said:

Never go for the unhooked person who got saved right in front of you. Literally just ignore them.

I have played so many matches of killer where I ignore the unhooked survivor, that it is now built into my brain like waiting out Dead Hard. It ends in wins that feel better and make you proud of yourself, and survivors that genuinely had a fun time playing with you.

If you tunnel and then say that you can't win without tunnelling, then that's just an indicator of how bad your skill is.

Yes, it makes the game more challenging, but who wants easy games everytime? And you DON'T have to win every match you play! Sometimes, I have more fun in the matches that I lose because the survivors looped me well and I actually had to try in order to get some hooks.

What makes me so angry is that in the rare occasions I do play survivor, I am almost always tunnelled. Once, I got unhooked and the ghostface immediately went for me, smacked me, hooked me again. I got unhooked in front of him later, he smacked me, hooked me again, and I was out. No other survivor was hooked, I didn't do anything in the match.

I couldn't even loop him, didn't have a chance to get into a chase. He downed me as soon as I was done with the unhooked animation. All I did was stare at the screen and hit the struggle skill checks on hook, all game.

    It's...tricky.

On one hand, I absolutely try to avoid being 'scummy' to play against, unless you do something deliberately scummy first (or bring a key). On the other hand - sometimes it just happens (the unhook runs directly into you) and often it becomes necessary if only to slow the current break-neck speed of the game down slightly.

  • @JimbusCrimbus said:

    There, I said it.

It's not tunneling itself that's the problem - it's the current meta, plus items like keys that all-but force it.

I try to avoid tunneling after the first kill, unless you either deliberately annoy me (you want my attention, you can have it) or you brought a key. That said, removing a survivor early is all-but essential right now.

  • @MeltingPenguins said:

If you go through e.g. Twitter, you'll find that those that gave him a bad name (faking ads, M&A, etc) are very much saying 'well, if they forced such a change we HAVE to play this scummy, we have no choice'.

So, yeah, the problems you had with slinger will continue to exist and likely get worse, because the things that got massacred now were not the issue.

But... congratulations I guess for driving away the few good slinger players?

Eh, I'll probably go back to equally fun Hag, Doctor or maybe play around with Pig a bit, now that her addons aren't horrible (I'm saving up some particularly nasty ones :). Hell, maybe I'll just bite the bullet and focus on learning Nurse properly.

It's a shame that Slinger, and to a lesser extent Wraith got nerfed down a tier (at least) while not being particularly powerful to begin with, but it is what it is.

This isn't a tournament game and I'm getting fined by absolutely no one. Disrespectful or not grow some back bone. Don't read post chat then become salted meat. I genuinely do not care for trash talking in video games lmao but I do have problem if you do real life threats and insistent harassment outside the match.

I love how toxic players inevitably blame the people who get ticked off rather than the people being septic buttpipes on the interwebs.

I always try to keep in mind that there are actual people behind those avatars, who may already be having a bad day. I'd rather we all have fun, win or lose, and just exercise a modicum of respect. Because that's how you make a great community, and not scare away new players.

One of the killers I find easy to start with is doc. He has good tracking easy game with static blast and madness. And when you learn him more you can consistently stop survivors from vaulting or dropping pallets for easy hits

I went Doctor second, and he remains a favorite of mine.

He is rare, and a lot of survivors will tilt facing him. Madness is a wonderful tool, Static Blast is an incredible 'sonar ping' that also gets survivors off gens (and will often cause them to scatter). His 'disable' is also absolutely boss if you can get it right. However, I'd save him for later - as his perks really aren't very good.

    @HaunterofShadows said:

Wraith is the best beginning killer so start with him. As you get better you can switch onto harder killers. Learning loops are also very important.

I'd recommend staying away from Wraith to start. His speed and invis will likely cause you to pick up some bad habits, and miss some tricks. Plus, his perks are doo-doo.

I'd say Bubba is a natural first pick, and there are few killers that BBQ isn't good on (plus, it will help you farm up much faster).

Legion is awesome too - despite being a bit weaker. Discordance is my single favorite perk in the game, almost sleeper OP to an extent. It is such an incredible tool that I feel gimped whenever I don't run it.

  • @sumps1 said:

Been playing about a month or so. Leaving my survivor comfort zone now I have somewhat of a grasp on most maps.

does anyone have any useful tips for starting out in the killer side? Who’s easiest to start on/ perks I should be looking out for etc…

    thanks in advance

As someone who prefers killer, and has been gradually moving towards a point where I'd be happy to call myself 'intermediate', here's a few:

    • Pick one killer you like thematically, and master them. Preferably something more of an 'M1' killer to get the hang of basic pursuit. Do not start with Nurse or Hag in particular (I'd also avoid ranged killers to start). You'll pick up bad habits.
    • Nemesis, Bubba, Wraith, Legion and Oni are great characters to 'learn' on. Once you start getting the hang of them, you'll crush as more mobile killers. I'd recommend Bubba first, as BBQ is just fantastic, and gives you tons of bonus BP. He's also rock solid.
    • Another reason to go Bubba first is Franklin's, which is one of the best tools to counter sweaty, multi-toolkit+medkit teams.
    • Avoid the Ruin/Undying/NOED trap. Totems are laughably easy to find at this point in the game.
    • Try not to break pallets mid chase, unless you are a killer that can do it really well (Bubba, Nemesis).
    • As a rule, try not to chase for more than 20 seconds to start. Rather peel off and pressure someone else.
    • Avoid camping or excessive slugging to start, you'll become dependent on this sort of tactic.
    • Be prepared for some toxicity, no matter what you do. Unless you have a rhinoceros hide, turn off endgame chat.
    • Redefine 'victory' to 'getting at least two Red emblems and having a maximum of two survivors escape. Not only does this generally earn you more BP than absolutely crushing your enemy, but it will save you endless frustrations when you run into cheesy SWFs and keys.
    • Pick a few key perks and level towards them. After you nab BBQ, Discordance, Pop, Tinkerer, STBFL are all brilliant and seldom a bad pick.
    • Do not neglect Survivor. This is my big mistake, and definitely one of the things holding me back (I really don't enjoy playing Survivor, as frustrating as Killer can be sometimes, and it definitely makes me worse at chasing).
    • Even if you are crushing, try not to end games too fast. Start trying to hook everyone 2x, start longer chases, consider letting survivors get a few gens. It'll earn you both some extra BP, and you'll find that you have more fun too.

    And most importantly:

    • View Killer as a facilitator of fun games, rather than a zero sum 'win/lose' binary. If you learn to have fun messing around with survivors, dropping the occasional good scare/funny moment on them and focus more on earning BP and having fun than insisting on an all-kill every game, you'll probably stave off the inevitable 'sod this' killer moment for longer.

Whew! That ended up being longer than I expected. Hopefully it helps.

EDIT: One more thing: save your best addons for when you hit a losing streak, or you feel you'll be going into a rough game (you'll learn to sniff out nasty SWF groups quickly).

Should be unless you're like the other fragile men that gets triggered by someone pressing the crouch button :^)

As with all things, context is key.

Maybe it's because I'm from a different generation, but in my day, while a bit of trash-talking was expected on the field (while you constantly bruised each other's bones), if you even refused to shake hands with your opponent after the game you'd probably eat a fine and suspension, if you weren't booted off your team outright.

There's a reason teabagging and flashing the killer from the exit gates, or 'GG EZ' tend to be regarded as toxic. It's just an incredibly disrespectful thing to do.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/285431/how-could-you-reduce-toxicity-in-a-multiplayer-game-like-dead-by-daylight

I don’t think any of the things you listed are an issue. I can understand people wanting a system in place to combat post-game attacks, but trying to prevent people from teabagging or hitting the hook etc is excessive.

Hitting the hooked person or teabagging/flashing midgame serve a purpose. It's an attempt to goad someone into a response.

Doing it once the game has already been won is a crappy thing to do.

Nerfs arent that bad? An extra 8 meters TR on any killer without stealth is an insane nerf...not to mention its a 110% killer, and he wasnt that great of a killer to begin with...

nerfing a mediocre killer mostly for the ''unfun to go against" factor

Doctor used to be one of the worst killers AND he was a PAIN to go against, so they rework his power, make him more fun to go against whilst making him a whole lot better

What does deathslinger get? A bigger terror radius, a reduced stun time, and removing quick scope shots; One of his most fun things to do.

    Bingo.

Honestly, 'Slinger needs a complete, Bubba level rework. He was already really, really clunky to play.

maybe it's just me feeling nostalgia or something, idk

but i really miss old freddy's kit, both playing as and against him. it was fun trying to guess where he was coming from and having to try and figure out a game plan early on, especially based on the builds you make with your perks that can either make the game easier or extremely challenging.

his power was also extremely unique when he had to pull survivors into the dream world. i feel as if they maybe gave him back his old kit but kept some modern things in place, he'd be more fun and interesting to use and play against.

    what do you think?

He probably needed a bit of adjustment, as he was just too good for how easy he was to play.

However, rather than tweaking his kit a bit, they nuked it from orbit.

  • @alexera294 said:

All I've been getting are sweaty nurses and spirits for several matches in a row. I don't even run any meta perks, all I want to do is farm bloodpoints with WLGF, Prove Thyself, Detective's Hunch and Kindred but I keep getting tunnelled and camped so badly that I average around 7k bp a match. For the records, I have 260 hours play time and the max rank I got is Iri 4.

Honestly, just ease up a bit. Stop looping so aggressively. If you play in SWFs, do a few solo games every night.

While you will occasionally run into a jerk killer who smurfed their MMR down by AFKing (and hopefully will eventually eat a ban for it), if you are getting matched against sweaty killers it probably means you are better than you think you are.

  • @Chocolate_Cosmos said:

Because as for me, I think I will.

Not because he will be nerfed (aka weaker killer), but because he will be clunky and unfun to play as.

If they would give him back at least his quick-scope, then he could still be playable (aka less fun, but still not feel super clunky).

    And you guys?

    Yup.

Both him and Wraith are getting pretty hefty blanket nerfs, not because of their performance (neither are more than mid tier on any list you can name), but because you have to play a little differently against them, and Entity forbid that this is required.

What is annoying is that no other aspects of their kit have really been buffed to compensate. All you've done really is take a 'B' tier killer and make it a 'C' tier killer.

Wraith will still be Wraith, just even weaker against groups that know how to work around him - but Slinger was already a little clunky, and this is going to make him annoying to play.

I don't think it is super unbalanced in favor of survivors, the game is definitely balanced towards survivors being stronger but that really only matters at high lvl. Playing solo Q you will win most of the games because solo q is quite balanced because not a lot of people sweat in 4 man squads to win every game.

    This is the core problem.

Killers can't be balanced around SWF, because that would be miserable for solos.

Killers can't...well, shouldn't be balanced around solos, because then they just get rolled over by any similarly skilled players in a 4man.

The easiest solution - and I've made it before - is to copy what other companies have done with MMR, and attach a scaling MMR increase to people playing in a premade. Like...1.1x for a 2man, 1.3 for a 3man and 1.6 for a 4man.

This means that playing in a SWF will put you up against a proportionally more skilled killer, to compensate for the increased coordination.

As titled, met 3 hackers today, one in the morning and two in the row during evening when playing my high mmr killer. (same hacks: speed hack, insta-heal teammates and auto-repairing generators)

So far my personal best counter to hackers is to not giving them any interactions at all (treat them as void). I will just afk and do something else (get a cup of coffee...). This will demotivate any fun from hackers and do not let them jump in another match quickly in my opinion. They aimlessly stay in the game and eventually leave.

I just want to provide another data point to everyone indicating that there is a noticeable increase of hackers recently.

Hope this rings a bell to devs.

One interesting fact: one hacker has ~ 10 hrs in the game and still match against me (>4k hrs). So this tells they can also hacks MMR.

The funniest one I've seen thus far was (what appeared to be) a completely invisible, silent, intangible survivor running around doing gens. Kept triggering my Hag traps, but when I teleported in - nothing.

Finally 'saw' him after BBQ popped - he was somehow running around 200ft in the air. Still setting off traps though.

This is getting silly. Usually I just AFK against the obvious ones - it's the sneaky ones that worry me.

Like - how many of my recent games where I've just bizarrely been unable to catch people, or found myself 5-0'd within minutes while barely even getting a chase (and inevitably 'GGEZ trash killer uninstall'ed at the post-game screen) have been me legitimately getting chimped by people, and how many have been hacking?

This sort of thing is death to a community.

  • @ukenicky said:

Literally killers will dodge swfs until they get solo queue survivors for easy matches. I get it, I don't like going up against swf squads either when I play killer but killers would abuse this to bully solo queue survivors who already have enough on their plate.

That's the outcome anyway. If I suspect it's a SWF group, I need to bring nasty addons and perks or I risk getting chimped by the inevitable sweatcomp.

If it's not an SWF, it's probably going to be much less fun for a group of solos. If I knew it was a group of solos, I'd probably go a little easier.

It's essentially the Prisoner's Dilemma of modern gaming.

  • @graveyard_7777 said:

  • @TragicSolitude said:

Not play like a jerk. I don't get the killers who slug for the 4k (3k?) after a DC, they could play in a nice manner and still kill everyone and get way more points for it. Sometimes it's like they're punishing the survivors who didn't DC, which is so backwards.

I'm cool with farming, but I don't expect it. I appreciate any killer who gives me a chance to make points.

I remember I had a match with an early DC or suicide against a Blight. My friend got hooked, and after I got them off the hook (and tried to take aggro) the Blight started to tunnel them. I made noise notifications like mad, and I swear I could actually see the Blight choose to change tactics. He ditched my friend and chased me, hooked me, and then next he went after the third survivor, and he took turns chasing and hooking us like that until he 3-hooked us all. I'm on console and don't have messages turned on, but I would've sent him a huge thank you with a fruit basket or something if I could have. We all got to make points, and it was a fun match. He didn't farm at all; he just didn't tunnel us out or slug us. I really appreciated that he held back for our benefit, especially since that didn't seem to be his original plan.

Spend an entire day running into SWF sweatcomps who clearly AFKed their MMRs down and still absolutely stomp you, stall the game out as long as they can, teabagging all the while and then 'GG EZ lol scrub get out game's full' in post-game chat, and you'll probably be a bit closer to understanding.

The reason that there are a lot of toxic killers is that this game seems designed to produce toxic killers.

That's good to hear, though there's a lot of Survivors that'll be genuinely upset you didn't play normally, which is something that's actually reportable. On the other hand, pretending everything's "normal" and maybe letting them finish the last gen and get out if things get that far is more likely to please everyone.

I actually looked into this, and I cannot find a single case, even anecdotally, of someone being banned for 'not playing normally'. Hell, I can't even find an example of someone being banned for AFKing.

I don't know what you are talking about. Because in case someone DC's or suicides, I give survivors a break and let them do gens while occasionally chasing for BPs for both sides. It's a huge pain when you have to deal with disconnects, as well as a waste of time, so I get warm words from survivors in the end char who were not only able to get points, but also escape.

I sometimes get warm words, sometimes I get raged at. I usually try to be nice (unless they've been teabagging me or flashing me during the game, in which case all bets are off). But it really is a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't think.

    @tippy2k2 said:

Your second to last paragraph is the answer. Every survivor is going to be different so there is no "right" thing to do. Some will want you to farm. Some will want to just play like normal. Some will want you to just mercy kill them and end the game.

Even for myself, it depends on how I'm feeling and what I brought with me. I'm gonna be a salty boi if I just pissed away a purple medkit with an anniversary cake :D

It's understandable why people can be sore about losing.

Being a bad winner is just being a jerk.

I'm not sure how it is now (I'm really old, and the world has become really different in terms of what's acceptable and what isn't), but in my day, a bit of trash talk between teams was expected in a lot of sports, but refusing to shake hands after a match would probably get you fined, at the very least and this sort of gloating would be unheard of, and likely would see a player ejected from their team permanently.

But still I try not to be toxic in any scenario.

Snap back if you want then leave. Never let them see you sweat bcuz that gives them what they want, just remind them that they are the ones being petty and to be better. Maybe leave the hook and get better at the game looping and chasing instead of camping people and being toxic in end game chat for example. Like that guy will never get to rank 1 with that play style, just saying. Toxicity will only get you so far.

I'm the ultimate 'nice guy' killer. If I'm steamrolling, I'm probably going to ease up and I'll usually let one or two escape regardless. All you can do is roll your eyes, not let it get to you, and move on.

    I sort of disagree.

This was the case, maybe 15 years ago. But companies have realized that a septic community is really bad for business, as it really does drive players away.

Now, a lot of games at least gently enforce a CoC - because once people start copping bans for being poisonous, it sets an example and everyone else starts calming down.

As it stands, the right way to play this game, especially as killer, is just to disable post-game chat. Which is a shame as it really does rob the game of a bit of banter and community.

I was honestly hoping with him being revealed as one to get addon buffs itd be more then two and the buffs was just to make sure you don't overheat with engravings. Unfortunate. Hows everyone else hopefully doing that plays billy?

Until you mentioned him, I sort of forgot that he existed.

I've had a few games where the survivors took the match hostage, refusing to touch gens. Those were frustrating.

Recently, I had a match as survivor where there were three of us left and only one gen to do. My friend and I were trying to pressure two different gens, and the third survivor (a Leon) kept making noise and then creeping away, not helping, bringing the killer over and trying to get us killed, because the hatch was nearby. Me and my friend died, and the killer downed Leon, then picked him up and dropped him on the hatch, giving him the free escape he'd tanked the match to get. That was frustrating.

I can imagine. Thing is - it's really tricky as a killer to tell the difference between someone who is subtly trolling or just making mistakes. Unless you BM me, I'll usually give the last survivor hatch, especially if it's a shutout.

Wraith and Spirit are both M1 killers without their powers. Their powers cloak them from survivor sight until they go on the offensive. Spirit is only stronger than Wraith right now because she can attack out of her ethereal form quickly and nearly immediately. Wraith is worse than Spirit because he can still be seen when moving within 20m of a survivor.

If Spirit gets her cloak nerf then she will be pretty close to Wraith in terms of strength. So Spirit will be more predictable in cloak and also not be able to see survivors, where Wraith is also predictable but can clearly see everyone -- making the fight more fair for Wraith.

Also just want to point out that argument from authority is not the same as the majority argument. Either way, a player is not coming from a place of authority.

Eh. Technically, it's complicated. An AFP and an ATA are both very dependent on exactly what is being debated and what conditions have been laid out before. In this case, I don't think it's fallacious to say that when the 'experts' - people who play the game for a living, at a level most of us can only dream about - all share an opinion about something in the game, that it's probably true.

To me, comparing Wraith and Spirit is like comparing Trapper and Hag. Both are thematically similar - traps. But that's where the similarity ends.

I don't know man, I can't go three games as a Killer without someone wishing cancer on my family or absolutely losing their ######### because I didn't run to the opposite side of the map after every hook, so I really ain't so sure if "GGEZ" is worthy of a thread, given the fact this forum would end up being nothing but Killer mains posting screenshots of every other lobby.

Again, I'm not saying that Survivors can't experience toxicity, or that "GGEZ" isn't lame, but this game has a far bigger issue when it comes to post game bullying.

    Oh I agree.

The problem is that BHVR are pretty quiet on what constitutes a 'win condition' for both roles. As things stand, it's a zero sum game - unless everyone escapes, at least one survivor feels like they 'lost', and if even one survivor escapes, killers feel the same.

Which is silly. I regularly get Ruthless in games where I only manage to finish off one survivor, and I could swear I've managed Merciless too.

There needs to be a placard somewhere saying 'okay, survivors. Not all of you need to make it out alive to win. Killers - you don't need to party wipe survivors every game.'

  • @WeissSchnee08 said:

I'm sure I'm not the first to say and I won't be the last. Hooking someone and just standing there is just bad sportsmanship. You get points for making ppl bleed and chasing them. Why just stand there and barely get 10 to 20k points per match when you can get nearly 35k points per match even with one kill. That's my view on it.

    We do.

    That said:

    @WeissSchnee08 said:

After a couple years of playing there's no reward for a player being eliminated in the first minute because the killer has a grudge. With so many people disconnecting it's just easy to understand why they would leave. Especially when they lose everything they brought with them to the trials. A few times I've seen someone hooked twice within a minute. Not even a chance to chase. Just hook then stand there. Even people who are brand new no longer want to play because there's no fighting chance like that. I'm just saying its discouraging. Word of mouth helps a community grow. Nobody wants to face the number fighter when they haven't finished training. Idk I just find this all rough to see.

It's because that, as things stand, the meta is both really frustrating and, thanks to SWF, often heavily survivor favored. If you find yourself facing a sweatcomp, especially on maps like RPD or Haddonfield, and you aren't playing a top tier killer, you are probably going to be forced to play scummy if you want to get kills. The sheer amount of 'second chance' perks combined with the speed at which a coordinated group can slam out gens makes it easy for killers to feel completely helpless.

Queued into a solo queue game as survivor. Got a deathslinger on Racoon city PD. I did a gen solo and teammates took turns going down and unhooking each other. No flashlights, no toxicity (as far as I could tell) and a killer that rarely left the hook.

Soon as we get to end game chat killer comes right out with 'gg ez'

This game comes on the back of being facecamped by a Nemesis (at 3 gens left).

Honestly though, what's the point of doing this?

Yeah, this game's community is pretty notoriously toxic, which makes it a bit hard to recommend to others.

To be fair though, I see way more BM from survivors than killers, both in game and post game. If you don't want me to tunnel you down, don't click me or teabag me - because if you want my attention, I'll give it to you.

That said, yeah, this game is in serious need of a jerk purge.

    @Clowning said:

    That's it? That's all?

GGEZ or some variant is one of the most poisonous things you can say after a game. A bad loser is understandable. A bad winner is just a colossal bag of butts.

Great, that doesn't mean they are right. I still stand by my point. I love that your opinion is less valid unless you are a streamer. Oh sorry, a killer streamer. Survivor streamers don't get to have opinions.

That poor strawman never stood a chance...

My very first match with Freddy's new power was easily the worst DBD match I've ever played, so much so that I don't even like to think it.

The match was on Old Léry's, which always will be my favorite map, but that did little to comfort me. I had just witnessed my absolute favorite killer, the one that really got me into DBD in the first replace, be replaced by the boring mess that new Freddy is.

I was disheartened and everything felt wrong. Seeing your favorite killer disappear right before your eyes is something that Old Freddy mains and Old Billy mains know all too well, and it is one of the worst things you can possibly experience in DBD.

That match was technically a victory... it never felt like one.

Woof. Must confess, haven't tried new Freddy yet (I mostly play Doctor, Hag and Spirit). Trying to enjoy Spirit while I can, as she seems to be on the chopping block now.

Probably the ones when I was attempting the "Where Did They Go?" achievement...which has now been replaced by the titanic mountain that is "escape through the hatch with a key". Absolute joke. Anyway, I got it in the end, for my sins, along with all the other trashy trophies. No idea why I put myself through that nonsense.

But in regards to frustrating...this morning the matches were just that. No joy. Just frustration. Survivors with their SWF crap and Killers going full try-hard with Franklins etc despite early match DCs. Just a huge shower of shattery.

I'm having more fun on the One Punch Man game and watching old horror films.

DBD just gets worse. It's a shame, as it's by far got the best character roster in video game history. Oh well. Us hypocritical fools will continue to play despite our gripes.

Yeah, I mostly play killer and I hate it when a survivor DCs or AFKs. It puts me in an awkward position, as I feel genuinely bad for the remaining survivors and usually try to give them a break - which tends to get me raged at post-game. Of course, I get raged at even harder if I wipe them.

Depending on who I'm playing, what map and which addons I've brought, I'm not above just AFKing against stompcomps. If you want your win so bad - take it. I'll do something else for 20 minutes.

Survivor - don't care. I rly don't see any diffrence. It's just meat bag that is destined to be hooked.

Killers - Wraith. In my experience it's most boring killer to play around. 150% move speed and wallhack is not something interesting to play around.

Keep in mind that the 'wallhack' is getting nerfed again. It's a pretty rare addon.

Every video game has toxic community, here we have very soft punishments. Most time problem is just ignored.

Every game has some toxicity. But DbD is something...special in this regard. It comes from a near total lack of visible moderation and a meta that all but forces killers to engage in scummy tactics (camping, slugging, tunneling) to win.

The only modern games I can think of with a more poisonous community are Smite, Eve Online and CoD. Even LoL and DOTA 2 aren't quite as bad.

  • @Gylfie said:

The game I played where I did absolutely everything without getting detected once. I unhooked people, I healed people, I somehow found the time to do three gens as well and we eventually made it to one gen remaining with only one other person still alive.

The killer slugged them, hoping I would come out of hiding. I did and I got the slug back on their feet right as the killer came back, which was the first time he had seen me all game. He downed me, hooked me, facecamped me and made it very clear to the other survivor that I was not to be unhooked. They tried to unhook me anyway and he grabbed them. I died and he gave the other survivor hatch.

In the chat he called me out for being a trash stealth gamer. I was so angry, because that made it seem as though all I had done that game was pretend to be a bush. In reality, I had played so well, constantly scrambling to keep the team from falling apart while also doing some gens, all the while remaining hidden, and I got punished for it. I didn't play anymore that evening.

I understand the strategy, but it's insanely frustrating for a killer to play against someone like this. I know I absolutely hate it.

It's zero fun, especially if they are playing Claudette/another 'camo' character and means that both of us get less BP. On certain killers, there is no real way to respond to it and 'hide and seek' becomes very tedious.

I probably wouldn't have raged at you, but I'd certainly be tunneling you to death if I ever saw you again.

  • @Jeromy137 said:

Just had a match were then gen got on almost instantly and people were getting up in 2 seconds only got 1 hook was constantly being flashlights as if they guy had infinite charges

There does seem to be a new hacking suite/some new hacks in the wild.

By far the most bizarre one was a survivor doing gens while walking around on top of the map somehow, tonight. Only spotted him thanks to BBQ.

  • @grayon444 said:

Do you think this will happen someday?

    Personal opinion.

Do you mean - will DbD grow further?

I think the problem is, right now, a stale 'genrush vs. 1 or 2 high tier killers with specific perks' meta, and a general feeling of helplessness from killer mains - particularly due to SWF. The killers should really be a big draw, but I know that when I started - it did not make a positive impression. I'd love to know how many new players join, wanting to play their favorite killer and quickly realize that, unlike other asymmetric PvP games, the 'solo' role is not the 'power' role - and end up leaving.

It also has one of the most notoriously toxic communities online, outside of MOBAs.

  • @Rougual said:

Just the ones that tell me to end myself.

    So all of them.

I learned the hard way to turn off post-game chat when playing killer.

If you lose, it's 'ggez lol get out scrub games full'.

If you win, it's 'lol tryhard moar l2p scrub'.

Yeah, I think this game needs a big screen saying 'not all survivors need to make it out for the match to be a win, people'.

I think if they ever nerf Spirit to the level of Wraith then more people would play Wraith because there's no benefit...again as I mentioned earlier, when you compare Wraith to another killer who is better or does a much better job-- then Wraith can look like total garbage. He is not garbage at all, just not being played as a 'meta killer' right now.

Wraith and Spirit are entirely different animals though, aside from their basic 'spoopy' theme.

    @Gladonos said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2538398#Comment_2538398

That is an appeal to majority fallacy. I now main Wraith instead of Spirit because although he may not be the strongest he is still very strong and he is the easiest killer in the game.

It's always endearing when people quote fallacies without actually knowing what they mean.

An AFA fallacy only works if the authority being referred to has no commonly agreed upon expertise, or as a red herring. Of course, 'x expert sources say different' is a cogent response to a claim.

Otherwise, any linking or reference to any source would be 'an argument from authority'.

'I believe that elephants only live 20 years'.

'Well, here are several sources stating that the median age of an elephant is much longer'

    'ARGUMENT FROM AUTHORITY'

Here, the appeal to a fallacy is, itself, fallacious. Because if we follow that line of logic, there is no such thing as an expert opinion on anything.

There's actually a name for this specific fallacy, but it escapes me now.

Tier lists are always personal opinion and in comparison to another killer like Nurse or Huntress who outclass Wraith in precision. That doesn't mean Wraith wasn't tweaked a little too much.

When everyone is telling you something, perhaps they aren't wrong?

A cursory look, and I can't find a single big name killer player who ranks Wraith as anything less than 'mediocre'.

Are you certain that this isn't just a personal dislike?

    @Legionair said:

Most frustrating was a recent game where there was 2 diff swf and I played nurse, I saw them switch to toolboxes and one key last second so I knew something was up. Key user used all stealth perks and rarely showed herself or did any objectives unless her friend was being chased on comms, the rest of the survs had FULL genrush kits and bnp each. ALL prove thyselves etc, I still played very well and got 6 hooks with 1 kill but then what happened? they got 3gened and held the game hostage for 7 minutes not doing gens and hiding until all 3 escaped through hatch, doing the typical tbagging etc before they did. Then proceeded to tell me how bad I am at killer in end game chat, how I have 0 game sense, "get good" etc.

Oh yeah, I run into this groups sometimes. It's astounding how BM survivors can be if you don't just let all 4 get away.

  • @StibbityStabbity said:

Sometimes it's not enough to dunk. Sometimes you want the opponent to know what your jock tastes like on the very back of their tongue.

Unless I'm playing a killer I know very well and have good addons, I'm probably going to end up AFKing if I run into a group like this. The only way to beat trolls is just not to play.

  • @throwaway79465468797 said:

Playing against Wraith because I don't know who decided this character needed to be the way he is right now. It's way easier to buff up a character who is weak than dial back one that is too strong... newbie killer or not he does not need to be that strong. Either remove his movement speed in cloak or remove the speed boost after uncloaking. No add-ons should change or re-add these features.

Interesting. Every tier list I've seen has him squarely in the center.

    @SoylentPixie said:

Honestly my more frustrating games have been recent. I have run into five or six games in the last week or so ,where PC players have been deliberately trying to get me killed. Blocking doorways, repeatedly finding me on gens and either blowing them and running, fast vaulting, dropping pallets, very obvious sandbagging or deliberately helping the killer.

I'm going to say I have just had a rush of bad luck being put into teams of players who are obviously bored with the normal game, since I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing this, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating.

I'll admit that I'm seeing this quite a lot as killer right now. Maybe 1/3 of the games has one survivor teabagging in front of a hooked person, AFK in a corner or running directly to me and then dying on hook.

  • I sympathize.

Unfortunately, the survivor meta of basically second chance perks+high speed gen slamming means that there is only one 'right' way to play killer, and only a handful of killers that can really pressure a decent group of survivors.

As much as I enjoy playing Doc, Piggy or Demo, it feels like - if I'm looking to win games - I'm doing it wrong if I play them.
