Oh and topic. Frustrating match is the killer didn't getting any hooks because you got chased the entire game. Finally got downed but your teammates threw the entire game by getting Snow ball'd and didn't do any saves they should have done since they were too busy self caring so they missed the timing.

Imagine the killer being so bad that his only hook was when all the generators was done but your teammates were even more awful he got a 4K miraculously.

Hahaha! I've been there before, as a killer.

😁Sometimes you just get totally outclassed, or insanely unlucky and barely even see a survivor before 4 gens are done (especially back in the days of prenerf OoO, where a premade could see you coming and move long before you saw them), only for you to get one hook that snowballs into a full set of basement ornaments.

It can feel good, especially with how toxic/cocky some of these SWF groups would get.

  • A few could be newbies, sure - but I'm seeing even higher 'grade' survivors deliberately sandbagging games, going AFK in a corner, running directly to me (and then dying on a hook) or standing in front of a hooked ally and teabagging or something.

And a 3 gen is an automatic win for the killer and that shouldn't be. Instead of nerfing the hatch again, it should have been buffed to give opportunity.

This is technically known as 'whataboutism'.

Nobody mentioned a 3-gen until you did. You claimed that hexes were superior to boons innately, and someone else pointed out that most hexes are utterly useless.

Rather than rebut this, you changed the topic.

Or any new streamers you have begun to watch?

I respect dowsey and truetalent more after seeing the teams they have to sweat against and feel I learn more by watching them when I can on the weekends.

    Any recommendations?😇

Edit: I am more interested in killer but will watch good survivor players as well. Thanks.

As an intermediate player, Otz is a fantastic killer to watch. He breaks things down well and can be legitimately entertaining (especially his more recent 'streak' videos).

As others have mentioned, Dowsey is also solid. Especially when he starts doing his own sound effects.

every tried looking at a wall? Franklins perhaps? Maybe a little bit of Lightborn?

The problem is that these squads are really, really good at swapping at just the last second before the match starts.

I very, very rarely AFK. The only time I'll do this is when I'm up against an obvious smurf stompcomp, a cheater/exploiter or a group legitimately just trying to grief.

It really isn't a big deal to go say hi to the wife, get a bit of exercise or watch an episode of One Piece and let them get frustrated trying to provoke a reaction. Occasionally the endgame chat is spectacular.

After the implementation of SBMM and the devs constantly ignoring player input, I am so f-ing close to uninstalling this game. As killer, I am constantly getting frustrated over only and I mean ONLY playing against sweaty SWF squads that give me no chance of winning whatsoever. When I first started playing DBD (when Ghost Face was released) it was so much fun as I thought I was winning/losing an even amount of times and making ACTUAL PROGRESS towards getting better at the game.

But now with the introduction of SBMM, I haven't won a single game and I can't make any progress on getting better because I have no control over how the match plays out, and for the life of me I can't figure out what to improve on as killer because each game goes the same exact way: Survivors gen-rush and the gates are opened within 5 minutes, regardless of how many slowdown perks I use. Additionally, it makes my blood BOIL when survivors taunt you and rub it in your face that you cant win by t-bagging, flashlight clicking, etc.

To the devs, fix your goddamn game. It's not fun anymore for me, and for loads of other people in this community. This game has so much potential if you guys were to actually take our input seriously. The fact that you guys ignore us 9/10 times is infuriating and makes a lot of us want to just quit playing your game completely. So for the love of God, please please please PLEASE balance the game for Killers.

I'm also welcome to hearing other people's input as I know I probably sound biased lmao. All I ask is that you are respectful of my opinions, thanks :)

I totally sympathize, but it's miles better than it was a year ago. Back then, killers had absolutely no MMR/rank based matchmaking (they had it for a while, but apparently it led to long queue times and was disabled). So many ridiculous games where I'd be playing a level 13 killer I was trying to level and run into full SWF stacks with meta perks.

As things stand, the easiest solution would be following others' fixes for this exact issue.

Put a soft MMR multiplier in place for SWF groups, to offset the power they have. This would increase as more players join the SWF (so, let's say a 2 stack has a 1.2x multiplier, a 4 stack has a 1.6x).

    This would mean that:

    • small SWF groups would face slightly higher MMR killers than if they queued solo.
    • Full SWF groups would face a significantly higher MMR killer.
    • Solo players would be unaffected.

A bit back me and a meg were about to do the last gen it was like 95% or something and I'm injured right

Well she decides to run away I try to commit but I go down at 99% of the gen and she doesn't return to try and finish the gen

I've seen something odd recently - a lot of survivors either completely AFK, or deliberately letting people die on hook. I wonder if they are trying to manipulate their MMR.

  • @WishIcouldmain said:

The devs will likely tone down the boon perks. Plague and Trapper are receiving good buffs and keys finally got changes. And with some more perks getting good buffs like Blood Favor and Retribution. (Bonus Ghostface not add-on dependent).Yes Spirit and Deathslinger were nerfed. But overall this wasn’t a balance patch tilted to one side. Too many people are saying killer is dead now and everyone should go play survivor

The second someone bases and assertion off 'likely', I become dubious.

The word I like here is 'precedent'.

Remember the old flashlight blind - and how reluctant BHVR were to change it/how long it took?

People like to win. If even a single survivor dies, that's a loss for that survivor. And there are more survivor players than killers.

    • You are an SWF.
    • You click or teabag me.

That said, 'camping' tends to mean 'you patrolled back close to the hook one time' and 'tunneling' seems to mean 'you hooked me twice in the same match'.

Toxic behaviour is the slurs in the end game chat. Only dbd players consider pressing of a button toxic behaviour.

Yeah, it is. And you know it is.

You are just splitting hairs here.

I'm the ultimate 'nice guy' killer - if you have a DC, or we are mismatched, I'll probably give you a break.

Click me or teabag me once, and I'm hitting you with both barrels. And if I see you again in lobby, I'm bringing all the good addons.

Far, far too many survivors aren't after the win. They are there to make killers miserable - stalling out the match, refusing to end etc.

I specifically want the source of a dev confirming that "SWF being matched based on the highest rank" was intentionally removed.

I'll see if I can find it. It may be from a QA or Discord.

I wonder if they are including survivors DCing or deliberately killing themselves to derank?

  • @Buttercake said:

Toxic survivours are the problem. Look at those stats that just came out. Survivours are refusing to do gens and killing themselves. Do you think killers are steamrolling through team after team? No. Its survivours giving up when they dont get their way and then the rest of the team following suit cause winning has become impossible. Its so annoying. AND I'm a survivour main and see this happening. I know its true.

..I know you are talking about a different form of toxicity (to OP) but toxicity is the problem and its mainly on survivours part, they are 80 percent of any given match anyway.

I think those stats are being drawn from the Rift era, where every second game had either a killer DCing or 2-3 survivors DCing, as there was no penalty.

Keep in mind that a lot of survivors do this (or just killing themselves on hook) routinely to deliberately derank, including some big name streamers.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1687940#Comment_1687940

That doesn't make sense because the reason they implemented that to begin with was to stop matchmaking based on the lowest-ranked. I'd like to see the thread in question because that sounds hard to believe.

Going to be working on the family car today, but I'll see if I can scratch it up tonight.

Yes - what you are talking about is the old protection they had for a month or two to stop smurfing.

Low ranked survivors have a protection where they will only face killers of a similar rank. Coordinated groups would abuse this, by having someone derank down to silly ranks and then queuing up with them to stomp and grief new killers.

BHVR fixed this by giving killers similar protections and making sure SWF groups were matched against killers of a similar rank to the highest ranked survivor in the SWF.

They quietly removed both killer protections.

I can easily find the one where they admitted they had removed killer matchmaking protections, if you'd like.

  • You know why these stats look like this?

I'll bet dollars to donuts it's because games where survivors and killers DC are being included. During the rift, while the DC penality was disabled, this was sort of commonplace. Hell, I would DC to dodge Haddonfield and Ormond on occasion.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

So we all know that the gap between solo and SWF is incredibly big right now.

And that one of the most important issues right now is to close that gap between those 2 in order to balance this game better.

Now let's asssume the devs somehow found a way to bring solo very closely to the level of SWF.

How would you realistically buff killers to balance that out?

    1) Reenable the protections killers had against SWF smurfcomps.

    2) Survivors queuing together will have an increased matchmaking rating, proportional to the number of players in that group.

    3) Killers receive a 15% BP bonus for every player grouped together.

  • This...looks like an exploit.

Much like the spots on the farm maps where you can crawl when downed that make you impossible to pick up.

No. Absolutely not. Maybe half of my games at my crappy rank has 1-2 red or high purple ranks queuing with a deranked account to crush lowbie killers. These groups are all insanely BM, always teabag and try to stall out the game as long as possible once they have the gates open.

It makes for a genuinely unpleasant experience.

And now, it depends on the lowest. Which is the problem.

for the most part it fine but when you in a group you shouldn't be allowed have low rank survivor be leader have your high rank survivor int he group to bully low rank killers,if you in a group and it mix ranks you should face a killer to the highest in the group like if you got rank 2 10 16 5 in the group you should face rank 2 or 1 killer sorry but that all I want when it comes to fixing swf.

what are you talking about removed killer matchmaking protections and anti-smurf measures?

That's not all that needs fixing with SWF, but it's a decent start.

SWF provides significant advantages to a team with no trade-off. Either killers need to be extensively rebalanced with that in mind (which would be massively unfair to solo players) or another offset is required. I'd personally like to see a Heroes of the Storm type system.

Then why did i not see a single thread that talks about the unfairness of that change?

But i think those complaints about SWFs are lesser from newer killers getting stomped from high rank sweat squads.

I assume that most killers that complain about SWFs versed SWFs that were relatively close to their own rank.

You haven't? It was a while back. If I recall (I'd have to hunt for that thread - it may even be a Discord discussion).

I still have the one where the devs admitted they had quietly removed killer matchmaking protections somewhere - because it was my thread.

Idk but they removed it because of players playing with their newbie friends but now its abused by smurfs

Never noticed that they removed that.

Very odd decision on their part then

See: and survivors complained sufficiently about this to get it removed. I haven't seen a single thread from a survivor about smurfcomps, nor do I expect to. It's all 'SWF is fine'.

Do you see why people have an issue with SWF, now? And why they are getting ornery?

  • @nam said:

Recently I watched some survivor-side streamers, my feeling is that, they always treat killers as fools. No matter how skilled or bad the killers are, these survivors always laugh at killers, just like playing killers is a fault. That reminds me of manythings.

All the killers have different things to learn. When players start a new killer, 3-escape or 4-escape is so common. In this case, most of the survivors would laugh at killers, in contrast to the fact that playing killers have so many technics to learn, while the survivors only need to hide well, and play gen-rush.

I think I play kind enough, when one survivor DC, I would play nice, when I got 3-kill against unskilled survivors, I always let the last one escape, if the opponent plays well, I will not hesitate my praise. But, at last, I got nothing. When I start to play nurse and spirit, when I lose badly, what I got is "You are really a joke". When I try interesting perks, I got "You should't take those perks, so you are bad". Even recently, in red rank, I always meet teams that want to bully me and treat me as fool.

Is playing survivor inherently superior to playing killer?

Survivors essentially expect to get a full 4 man escape every game. If they don't get this, they will complain.

    I've been yelled at for:

    • Not allowing survivors to farm after a DC.
    • Allowing survivors to farm after a DC.
    • Not letting a survivor heal.
    • Bodyblocking as Wraith.
    • Using traps as Hag.
    • Using my chainsaw as Bubba.
    • Using static blast as Doc

Keep in mind that survivors are also the ones who will teabag you, flashlight spam you and wait at the exit to taunt you some more.

    @AGM said:

They won't if they can't stop playing victim. Same as everyone else.

Translation: I get to act like a jerk and you don't get to complain about it.

    @TheWarNung said:

There are nice, respectful people out there. I think they're even the majority of players. The toxic ones are just more vocal, either because they had a rough match and need to vent or are intentionally trying to be douches.

I find it's easier to get people to be nice by being positive myself. I give hatch quite a lot when games are played 'normally', and I say 'gg <3' or 'gg wp' after almost every match.

Even the survivor sided streamers I've seen tend to be respectful. The thing is, none of us like playing against weak killers/survivors. We want to play to our skill level.

Then why is it that, at rank 13-14, about half my matches are 1-2 high ranked players queueing with a low ranked player in SWF (who still has full perks and addons) to abuse low rank protections to crush lowbie killers?

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1686861#Comment_1686861

    Which protections?

I only know the one that you aren't able to de-rank past rank 16.

And even then you could easily create a new account (super easy to do on ps4) to bypass that.

    Which would mean playing perkless.

The old protection ensured that three red ranked survivors couldn't queue with a deranked friend to endlessly crush and troll new killers - they would always face a killer of a similar rank to the higher ranked survivors.

  • Quite simple.

    • SWF groups will (once again) face a killer at a minimum rank equal to the highest ranked survivor in the party. This immediately crushes the majority of SWF smurfcomps and means that if they want to smurf, they all have to derank.
    • SWF groups will have their matchmaking rating inflated artificially, proportional to the number of players grouped together (to counterbalance the coordination/communication advantage). Heroes of the Storm did this, and it worked pretty well.

    @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1686845#Comment_1686845

Yeah, but that's not really a problem about SWF but rather one about garbage matchmaking and smurfs.

They are currently working on the MMR system so there is that but the problem with smurf accounts is that you woun't be able to stop them at all, unfortunately

Then why did they remove the protections against smurfing and the protections lowbie killers had against it? (Well, I know the answer - these same smurf groups started complaining about queue times and how they couldn't 'teach their lowbie friends the game, just ignore all those perks they have').

Why is deliberate killer deranking bannable, but survivor deranking isn't?

Note: survivors still have those protections. Survivors at a certain rank (I think it's yellow and below) will always be matched against a killer lower or equal to that rank. This is how the current smurfcomp works.

Again - if they were working on fixing this, why would they remove the fixes they had made - with no announcement, chance for discussion or ETA on a replacement?

  • @MusicNerd_TC said:

Not all SWF are like that, most of us are casuals who want to have fun and stay at our own ranks, those sweaty smurf groups make swf look bad, and we shouldn't be punished because of that.

Again - here's a bag of jelly beans. Most of them aren't poisoned. Still want one?

Nobody is asking for you to be punished. All we are asking for is for things to be a bit more fair.

Tell you what - if more survivors would make threads about how BHVR needs to bring back the anti-smurf protections and give killers back their matchmaking protections, you'd see far less complaint threads about SWF.

But you don't. You backfill, and make these 'yeah, SWF is fine because my group (according to me) isn't like that'.

Most people are generally benign and don't do heinous crap. We still have police.

The last thing I want is for me and my MoM, breakout and empathy friends to be punished because a killer didn't get their precious 4K :(.

This game isn't competitive, nor will it ever be, people should stop trying to make it that way.

    Ideally? Sure.

In reality? This would only work if survivors agreed to it too.

It's very easy to tell killers 'oh don't worry, it's not a big deal that you got skunked by an SWF smurf group who refused to end the match, this is not a competitive game' - but that's putting the onus on the killer, when the problem is these poisonous SWF groups.

Yeah, solo is a pain to play 85% of the time. Not everyone has friends to play with on Dead By Daylight. And yes you shouldn’t be punished for playing with friends I definitely agree on that.

Thing is - neither should killers.

Right now, the dominant thought seems to be that killers should expect to give up having fun to ensure that survivors have more fun.

The main issue, to my mind is that BHVR went out of their way to remove the protections that stopped lowbie killers running into groups like this essentially half of their matches. This is what SWF is to me: A coordinated group of 3 players queuing up with a deranked account(s) to crush new players.

    Why?

Because at rank 13, this is at least half of the games I play.

I don’t know why killer mains want SWF nerfed so badly. You’re literally just having fun with your friends. Not every SWF is a “bully squad” as killers call them, most just want to talk and have fun sometimes even meme. I get I get it, some perks are broken with SWF and comms take over specific perks but if you take away SWF you’ll probably be winning 99% of your killer matches.

Here's a bag of jelly beans. Not all of them are poisoned. Enjoy!

SWF isn't the problem. It's that, unlike in other games, there is no offset to compensate for the increased coordination and information coms provides, nor is the game balanced around it.

Beyond this, BHVR went out of their way to remove the old protections to stop high ranked SWF groups from deliberately queueing into lowbie killers to stomp them, and removed killer matchmaking protections entirely.

    SWF needs a kicking.

Why is every game a killer camping or tunnelling? This is so boring, literally no interest in pressuring gens or anything...so the rest just do gens and totems (sometimes not all totems) then Noed spawns...here's more reward for a killer...Then you know the killer comes out with 2/3 kills for camping and tunnelling the whole game....the amount of times i've escaped and depipped with like 16k points for doing gens and totems because the killer has no interest in actually earning these kills or anything is a massive issue with the game.

Then the killer earns 25-30k Score for doing this...am I the only one failing to see how this game is "survivor sided" when it seems like all Killer have to do is stand still and focus one guy the whole game for everyone to lose pips and pretty much suffocate the whole game from anyone getting bloodpoints but themselves...and these are the types of Killers who will come on the forums and complain about second chance perks.

It's quite sad that these are the Killers i'm coming across in Red Ranks...and tbf, nothing against PC players but ever since Crossplay it's literally the same Killer playstyle every game against PC people...you can always tell when they're PC because i see nothing but slugging/camping/tunnelling. Quite sad where this game is right now.

Why are killers camping or tunneling you?

Like - what are you doing to make yourself a priority target?

Are you teabagging them? Are you using a key? A tricked out toolbox? A blendette?

Are you abusing survivor matchmaking protection to queue up against lower ranked killers with a low ranked SWF partner?

Keep in mind that this style of play isn't that much fun for a killer either. If they are doing it, chances are there is a reason.

  • @xevra said:

Camping and tunneling are no more toxic than looping or body blocking. They are ways of playing the game that have contextual tactical value.

And what is, in my opinion, making killers toxic is the insane prevalence of smurfcomps abusing survivor matchmaking protections to endlessly grief and roll lowbie killers.

Survivors seem to expect to be able to taunt, teabag, stall out the game and deliberately derank without penalties, while expecting killers to adhere to some outdated concept of politeness.

Yes, they will leave the game for sure, if this is unfair and not enjoyable anymore, why should they stay? Also they are not seeking for another 4v1, they will seek for ANY game that is fun. I mean think what you want, but that does not really matter since devs know that survivirs will leave. And they also know that this would kill the game. Pretty obvious to me, guess not for you tho.

Wait, how would anything I suggested be unfair?

Think about it, what will this do with SWF? Very likely most people who enjoy playing with their friends (and many play with their friends) will leave the game and search for a better alternative.

Now the masterquestion: What will this do with the game?

If you think this wont kill the game, you are terrible wrong.

What you are saying here is - SWF groups are actually looking for an unfair advantage, and will quit if it's removed?

That sounds like a win/win situation to me.

I understand him being visible when he interacts with something, but you also have his bell, moving grass, and his breathing to tell you where he is.

He would require survivors to act like The Spirit.

I'd also like to see Spinechill and OoO not work against undetectable killers.

Being left slugged, then crawling away with Tenacity, and then watching the killer return back to where I was downed -- which they usually proceed to spend the next 60+ seconds running around all over the place while their head is facing towards the ground as I watch them from a distance.

Literally the only reason I ran the perk. Nobody expects it.

Shrug. I'll generally just leave you slugged in that case.

The real annoyance is when survivors use it to crawl into spots where it's literally impossible to pick them up (Farm maps are annoying as hell in this regard).

My favorite little pleasure in DBD is, as Hag, teleporting immediately when a wounded survivor triggers a trap. For some reason, it seems like the down is just so much more... I dunno... vicious. With how you teleport, the fact a survivor is (usually) forced to look at the trap, and the hit... it feels like you're clotheslining them. They seem to hit the ground really hard, like they just ran into a wall.

Dodging obvious smurf groups in the lobby. I'll wait until that timer is almost red. You know what you did and why you deserve it.

Chasing down, downing, hooking and then camping someone who teabags me. You wanted my attention - well, now you have it. I'll also get several other hooks in the process, usually - as their buddies neglect gens and try to outsmart me.

Dropping an ebony Mori on a team of Claudettes.

Using NOED to down and hook some twerp who decided to stand at the exit gates and teabag.

Pouring excess BP into Wraith so I can roll the 'see progress of gens' addon. That thing is just so, so strong.

Nah man, something basically every Killer would prefer to avoid because it gives unfair advantages can´t be bad, can it? It´s the Killers, they want ez 4ks every single game and survivors spawning hooked. Nothing wrong with enhancing the performance of a group way above their actual level via insane coordination and free information, it´s hard as-is as survivor /s

It's also like: If survivors want to endlessly stomp lowbie killers, it's easy to do. Just get a mate to die on hook while watching The Boys until he hits rank 15, then queue up with him.

If killers want an easier game...?

There's a double standard here. A big one.

I don´t like to call double standars, but instances like this and the whole pop nerf fiasko make it really hard not to.

It's not hard to see if you look at it over time.

Remember how BHVR defended instant flashlight blinds?

Note how survivors can deliberately derank with no penalty, but it's bannable for killers?

If killers knew they were going up against a swf they would obviously lobby dodge. However I wouldnt mind being told it was a swf "AFTER" the match is over so I know that group was in one.

Shrug. I've already started doing this, if I even suspect it's a smurfcomp. Like - if I see 4 people with prestige skins at my crappy rank - yup, dodging. So sick of unbeatable BM smurf groups.

Yes the BM is disgusting to watch. I bet they nutted all over their pants because they found a brand new player they can humiliate.

If and when the "new and improved" MMR goes live, haven´t they planned to address this? Like, a multiplier, increasing with every member of a party and some form of protection for new players? Matches like this can´t be what BHVR has in mind for new players trying Killer, can it?

    I doubt it.

    Know why?

They fixed it in the past. If you grouped up as an SWF group, you'd be put against a killer of the same rank as the highest ranked person in your party, not the lowest.

A few people complained because their queues were longer and 'oh I'm just teaching my lowbie friends the game. Yes, they have full meta perks and 1000 hours experience a piece, just ignore that please.'

Similarly, killers had the same protections, meaning that a rank 13 killer would not be put up against a rank 1 survivor. This was completely removed too.

    This won't be fixed.

Except we've seen time and time again this doesn't work in Dead By Daylight. In more competitive games, slightly inflating lower MMR players to their higher MMR friends is generally the best way to handle premade matchmaking. In DBD, we saw just how many "sweat squads" are actually out there when every red rank killer was getting 3 rank 20 babies and 1 person above rank 5 almost every match when BHVR enabled premade matchmaking. It was awful and every single killer streamer commented on their negative experience with it. OhTofu and ScottJund still have youtube videos out from when it was enabled.

    No, that's fair.

If you are making an SWF group with 3 low rankers, that's your business.

By undoing it, you've just propogated the problem in the other direction, where 3 red ranks can queue with someone who artificially tanks their rank to endlessly grief new killers.

EDIT: Keep in mind that killers can't tank their ranks in this manner. AFKing and DCing are bannable and penalized, respectively. Killing yourself on a hook is not.

Actually, there is. You´re missing th point here. OP is a new player, how in the heck can you expect him to just kill them man? That´s just ignorant, this squad clearly was experienced. At this point it´s not even a match.

And like every single one of these smurfcomps, they were insanely BM and deliberately stalled the match out to grief.

Keep in mind that BHVR fixed this a while back.

These same groups complained about queue times and the fix was quietly reverted, along with killer matchmaker protections.

Then you'd just have rank 1s terrorizing rank 20s. The new player experience is already bad enough without adding a new diluge of smurfs to the mix.

I hate to break it to you, but this is already the case.

    smurf premade.png smurf premade 2 wat.png

Both were 3man SWF groups deliberately abusing the survivor matchmaking protections to grief lowbies.

  • @Alphaphalt said:

I'm a 2.5k hour player who's currently low ranked as survivor because I rarely play it and when I do it's usually me and friends messing around etc and therefore not pipping. Guess I should be banned then.

There is nothing stopping him from killing them. Suppose I should be thankful for every killer I've ever ran for an extended period seeing as they haven't reported so I can get my oh so justified banned.

    That's not the issue.

The issue is that, if you were to queue up with some rank 1s on coms, you'd still be facing lowbie killers due to survivor matchmaking protections.

they can't fix people want to play with they friends and using chat program solo use to be the normal way to play.

no don't work at BHVR but are you rell me swf not broken? soloQ not a nightmare now?

Nearly every other game with an SWF/premade ability compensates for this by either inflating the MMR of people queuing together (meaning that they will face a more challenging opponent) or granting the other side a bonus of some kind.

It's easy to fix without removing SWF.

However, for some reason, not only won't BHVR fix it, they've even walked back some of the fixes they made in the past.
