  • Yeah that's still pretty crazy to me even after spending an ungodly amount of time playing DbD.

In an asymmetrical game where one side is the hunter and one is the hunted, the prey are preferred more than 4x as much as the killer. You'd think there would be at least a few people wanting to experience a power fantasy or something but I guess the stress of 1v4 is a bit too much for most.

  • Yes, you can get 2 stacks if you:

    • Unhook safely (most easily done with BT)
    • Then take a hit within 10 meters of the injured survivor

Protection hits do have a cooldown of 3 seconds though.

  • Footsteps seem to be working fine but I agree that without Stridor anyone but Meg's creepy, rattling breaths are deathly silent.

Sometimes I can hear Adam, Claudette, and Jeff breathing but by that point I'm practically sitting on them.

  • Eh, the survivors can't see the killer at all so it's only fair that survivors can switch loadout as well. Especially considering the only reason you would want to lock their items/character is to lobby dodge, something the devs obviously don't want to encourage.

Yea I forgot about those as well. I wonder if Badham has those 5 variations due to it's lack of RNG layout

Apparently the reason Badham is like that is because most of the map is large, unique buildings that would look out of place if they were randomly generated. Like if the pre-school basement were right next to the house of pain basement it would be weird.

  • Midwich is also almost identical every time.

Swamp maps vary a little but Pale Rose in particular will always be pretty similar because the boat and the bridge are always on opposite sides of the map with reeds in the middle.

Saloon only changes the order of the buildings and tiles but they always keep the same layouts.

  • Okay so tunneling/camping is part of high-level play...

How have you proven that it takes skill to do? If anything this is a testament to how absolutely, indisputably boring high MMR matches will be if the system ends up pitting actually skillful players against one another.

  • All killers except T3 Myers and frenzied Legion vault at the same speed. The only major difference between them is the very loud noise Clown makes when vaulting, which should probably be removed.

  • I don't mean to be rude but...

    Lmaooo what is this

  • I've tried introducing at least 3 people to this game and they all quit immediately.

    • Korean MMO grind
    • Terrible matchmaking
    • Very, very basic tutorial hidden away in the settings menu
    • Doesn't explain perks unless you read through all their descriptions and look up the most important ones
    • Either play killer by yourself and get mauled
    • Or play with friends and not even understand how to loop or what powers do

Not a very good experience overall for new players. I had my brother play a match as Wraith, told him the basics like how to swing and cloak and hook, and he did not have a good time. Survivors ran him in circles after slamming out 4 gens, then one of them let him get a hook just so they could BT + DS him and run out the gates.

  • 99% of situations where you can use the antidote at loops the tonic can do the same without waiting for the cloud to activate.

  • @Orion said:

    What makes you say that?

Boot up the game, new announcement

  • The killer's attack is basically a hitscan laser that shoots out once they reach a certain point in the animation so it just looks weird when Myers gets stunned halfway through a swing and still hits you.

  • @Zeus said:

    Use scroll wheel.

Also don't mash too fast or play on the wrong resolution. Both of those can cause the game to eat your inputs and kill you.

  • For the sake of science I'm gonna throw like 30 matches in a row and see if the game will match 2000 hour killer vs baby dweets.

    Wish me luck.

They never claimed it to replace dbd.

and just becasue the game didnt make it doesnt mean the lore of the ngame and all wasnt good. Plus, you can use the games failure and add it to the lore. Claiming that the area was a Harvest zone that after years past died out with some going missing.

    Ehhhh...

Of course they're not going to say that they were aiming to replace DbD because that's literally just burning money but they definitely were planning on it. They said, "Hey, what if we take some DbD and put it in a shooter game?" and things just didn't work out. Not to mention how some of the DbD team moved over to Deathgarden when it first launched.

  • Just a hunch but I'm thinking the devs don't want to actively show off their past failures, especially when Deathgarden was meant to replace DbD as their main gig.

I understand not wanting to be specific as people would abuse the system but you guys should know the trust level is extremely low and the tiniest smidgen of transparency would remove so much ire. We know the very first idea was based solely on kills, then whatever the first actual attempt was did not even slightly work, so its very difficult to blindly trust that not only will the system be functional, but it will actually account for who is better.

The tiniest crumb of detail that would inspire so much confidence would be a simple question like "do add-ons affect the outcome?"

I mean, I think its understandable wanting to keep the system under wraps for this first test. They want as clean results as possible so they can see what they need to fix.

If this test turns out well, maybe they'll give some more information later down the line. At least they're working on it. This will only last 24 hours anyways.

  • GachiPls SKITTLES MATCHMAKING

  • That's unfortunate. Have you tried calling a plumber?

  • For many players, Doctor is already DLC.

    PC starts with:

    • Trapper
    • Wraith
    • Hillbilly
    • Nurse
    • Huntress

    Console starts with:

    • Trapper
    • Wraith
    • Hillbilly
    • Nurse
    • Huntress
    • Hag
    • Doctor

Some Xbox players may have received the Curtain Call DLC from the gamepass as well.

I'm not a low rank I've escaped solo plenty of times to but in those situations the killer wasn't doing what I described. Your suggestion doesn't actually counter my problem. It doesn't prevent the killer from camping the middle point of both gates watching for the light. It doesn't prevent the killer from seeing the light then camping that door and it doesn't stop the timer giving you more time to rush the next door after carefully sneaking away without the killer seeing you leave that gate. And if it's a killer setting traps at both games and getting notified when a traps is tampered with then you definitely have no chance. I dont care what your rank is or how good you think you are if a killer does this in endgame in a 1v1 the last kill becomes a free kill.

As others have said, endgame with gates should be biased towards the killer considering its your third chance to escape.

If the lights were removed you could just tap the switch repeatedly and then hide, making no noise or indicator that you are even working on that gate.

  • Currently good and very easy to play but they're about to nerf him

  • Best Food: KFC

    Most Convenient: Burger King

Making better decisions from advanced knowledge is literally the definition of skill as per the dictionary:

    https://www.dictionary.com/browse/skill

    https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/skill

the ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily in execution or performance

the ability, coming from one's knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well:

So you just admitted this game requires skill, and also admitted you're using the word wrong.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2020755#Comment_2020755

That is fair, but different type of skill should not be equated to no skill. Learning how to aim in an FPS game isn't particularly the hardest thing to do either, let alone requiring much thought.

People really romanticise skills in other games when video game skill boils down to a bunch of non sense almost all the time. People need to stop acting like other video games are equivalent to real life sports that require serious effort and talent to do: being physically fit, training extremely hard to be good at it, etc.

Video game skill, including for FPS games that people for some reason take too seriously for some odd reason, result in knowing when to press a button on your mouse or certain buttons on your keyboard. Really not grandiose in the scheme of things.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2020720#Comment_2020720

Matchmaking isn't the best in this game, sure. But I will repeat myself again: winning isn't the definition of skill in this game. There are tonnes of games out there where skill isn't defined by winning or completing the game and DBD is one of them

Hours are not the end all be all of defining skill, but it's a general correlation, much as is rank. People often say rank means nothing, but yet complain about mismatched matchmaking. You can't have it both ways. Hopefully MMR fixes that, but the mixmatched match making doesn't negate anything about how it takes skill to play this game, and the general pattern that it takes people hundreds of hours to even begin being competent. Your claim that you're on par with streamers with over 4000 hours is still yet to be verified and at this point doubtful considering the other claims you've made about the game that turned out to not actually be true

4king and escaping in this game isn't reflective of one's skill. Veterans will tell you that. Everyone else in this community will tell you that.

I think you misunderstanding my intention of this interaction. I don't care to convince you, especially considering the previous contents of your posts in this thread. You showcased several misconceptions and some flat out lies trying to talk about how the game is like this and that and it turns out to be dubious assumptions or simply not true to fit your own confirmation bias. I'm merely illustrating your train of thought for saying the game doesn't require skill isn't really as sound as you want to market it to be

"I think you misunderstanding my intention of this interaction. I don't care to convince you, especially considering the previous contents of your posts in this thread. I'd prefer if you kept the discussion civil but it seems as though all you want to do now is patronize me. Do you, by any chance have proof that hours and rank are "general correlations" to skill? If anything I'm the only one to have any sort of evidence with those screenshots but sure, call my claims "dubious" and say I'm lying without anything to back those claims up.

  • @kyogul said:

That literally doesn't fit the definition of skill. You cannot have skill without more advanced knowledge and the decisions you make based off of said knowledge translates to skill. Saying the game requires knowledge but little skill is dumb and makes zero sense. Little skill translates to performing badly. This also applies for every single game. Knowledge enables you to make better decisions which becomes skill.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2020645#Comment_2020645

Never seen the Mario Party comparison until today, so I don't quite buy "most people" think of this game compared to Mario Kart. It seems like it's just you.

Where's your source that said percentage correlates with those amount of hours? It seems like you're just talking out of your ass. It seems like you're superimposing your own pejorative thoughts onto the game and then claiming it as fact. You can literally check steam achievement statistics for DBD and it proves you wrong. And that's only for PC players, the minority platform of this game. It would be even amplified more on console.

DBD's grind technically is for the BP, which you subsequently get by playing a lot, which by playing a lot you're prone to get better. Grind for rank or not, DBD has grind that people buy into nonetheless. Doesn't really matter if DBD has diamond rank or not.

When you said streamers, my thoughts were of the veteran streamers such as Otz/Tofu/Tru3/basically 4000 hour+ streamers. Some of them also play in tournaments. But my point is getting a 4k isn't the end all be all of skill. I'll repeat what I said:

You don't need to be very good at the game to pretty much 4k all the time with undying/ruin/tinkerer/pop freddy or spirit for example. Being good at the game also goes beyond constantly getting 4ks or getting out of a match, which isn't hard to do when perks can carry you so heavily.

Also, the lack of coordination of survivors often is just due to the pitfalls of solo queue. It's a team role but you're not given the tools to act as a proper team. Instead of 1v4 it turns out to be 1v1v1v1v1. Not truly an issue of skill in that department.

"Also, the lack of coordination of survivors often is just due to the pitfalls of solo queue. It's a team role but you're not given the tools to act as a proper team. Instead of 1v4 it turns out to be 1v1v1v1v1. Not truly an issue of skill in that department."

Yeah, that's exactly my point. How do you know how much the potato salads Otzdarva plays against have played? How do you know whether they're playing consistently or have taken large breaks? How do you know if they're just grinding for BP or genuinely trying to improve?

That's why I brought up diamond rank in other games. In Rainbow Six when you go up against a diamond 5-stack you know they are good, you know they are actively playing, and you know they want to win. When you go up against a red-rank survivor they could have played literally one match per month to stay there and you wouldn't know the difference.

TLDR: The hours are not an apt comparison for skill in DbD. When we get a copper through masters ranking system and only the best of the best streamers are up there at the top, then you can tell me this game is difficult to learn.

  • @kyogul said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2020585#Comment_2020585

Anyone can say that; people often overestimate their skill. And everyone's good when using certain perks and/or killers as well. You don't need to be very good at the game to pretty much 4k all the time with undying/ruin/tinkerer/pop freddy or spirit for example. Being good at the game also goes beyond constantly getting 4ks or getting out of a match, which isn't hard to do when perks can carry you so heavily.

And again my point is: if the game was so easy then in general there would be less distinction between skill tiers. There would not be much difference between someone who played 200 hours vs 3000 hours. We would be seeing more of these mythical-and-still-yet-to-be-validated prodigies like you yourself claim to be

Well yeah cause most people think of this game as Mario Party.

The amount of players who spend more than 50 hours on this game is probably like 0.1% of everyone who buys it.

Nobody is practicing DbD day-in day-out so they can participate in the Uber Super Champion's League World Tournament. The average player is just not very invested. There's no grinding for Diamond in DbD.

Comparatively to most of the playerbase I'm pretty confident you or I or anyone else on this forum with more than 500 hours would look like a god.

And I also think you're way overselling the skill of streamers. How often do you see Otzdarva or OhTofu or whoever get into a private game with the best of the best survivors? Almost never? They mostly play in pubs with completely uncoordinated randoms.

Here are screenshots of me winning against streamers. Both games are from the same night sometime in December 2020. By your logic surely I must be some kind of god gamer to win against these teams right?

    tofu censor.jpg ohmwrecker censor.jpg

  • This game is easy... compared to most other popular games.

Not to be a braggart but I'd say I'm pretty much the same skill level as all those streamers who play killer for a living, but I can play Rainbow Six or CS:GO for hundreds of hours and still get steamrolled every other match.

  • He can break pallets, vault windows, and open lockers while invisible. Why would he not be able to close hatch?

  • You can say tunneling isn't nice or tunneling isn't necessary for "good killers" blah-blah-blah...

But you're just plain wrong if you think tunneling someone out of the game isn't the most optimal strategy. After many, many hundreds of hours of killer I can safely say that reducing the opponent's power by 25% is pretty darn effective.

  • Not bannable at all.

The method you're describing is done entirely through Steam and not related to editing your game files or using external software. Using the game ID to get Deathgarden is the exact same as getting it through the store. All the game checks for when it gives you the mask is whether or not you have the game in your library. You're perfectly fine doing it, I did it myself just a couple months ago.

SteamDB is an official Valve site and even if you don't trust it (for some reason) all it does is use Valve API, which does not require your login information. Use this ID for Deathgarden: BLOODHARVEST steam://install/555440

    Deathgarden.PNG

This is what it should look like after using the ID and adding the game to your library. You don't need to install it, just open up DbD after and you'll have the masks. Hope this helps.

Just for frame of reference: The devs don't ban for externally changing the FPS cap or for changing the graphics of perk icons. There's no way for the game to even distinguish between obtaining the mask through the store interface or by using its SteamDB link considering they are exactly the same functionally.

  • I got used to it for the most part but Swamp and Farm were really bad.

  • Imagine even wasting a single breath on IGN.

They probably have some dude locked up in their basement spinning one of those bingo ball tumblers. Whatever comes out is the score they give.

  • @Volcz said:

I assume you're in the low/mid ranks cause this doesn't happen very often if at all in my red rank matches. But when it rarely does, yea it sucks. Some people are just very big sore losers/easily frustrated.

Nah this happens all the time in red ranks. Part of why I almost always play killer.

  • @Afius said:

A little off topic but does lightborn not work on getting lightburned?

Yep, doesn't work on Wraith or Nurse

  • Being bad at killer Isn't fun

Same reason why kill rates are high. Nobody in their right mind wants to spend hours and hours getting destroyed and BM'd when they could at least be playing with friends. Not to mention you need to buy most killers whereas survivors are all the same.

  • Like, 2.

Don't have 100 hours to waste getting blue machete man. I'll probably do the next rift when they make it twice as fast.

The David sailor outfit from Tome 4 was cool.

  • 1. You ran for no reason, giving your location away while also refusing to fix the gen.

    2. Nurse is not a normal killer, she found you quickly because blink.

    3. If you had hidden yourself better she probably would have left for another gen since that spawn was unusual.

  • Ghostface is... ok I guess. Don't have much to say about him. 115%, stealth, very good at proxy-camping.

  • Mindgame = 50/50 or literally unwinnable I guess

  • Otz is like Zer0 from the smash community:

I don't personally enjoy watching them or particularly like the fake "nice streamer who is definitely your friend" persona but I respect them. They're adults, they know how to make money and they keep the hustle going. Huge respect for that.

He's the epitome of twitch-friendly sub magnet.

  • Killer main vs survivor main poll

  • Most of the time it doesn't matter how long the timer is because you're inflicting the effect mid-chase when they won't be able to recover anyways.

  • Definitely not a new thing. I don't play much survivor but if this happens to me I just afk since they obviously want a reaction of some kind.

Some killers even go so far as to let you wiggle near the gate so they can down you when you finish opening it.

  • Finally, they added the Kool-Aid man to Dbd.

@Phasmamain Same with Gunslinger until people got better with him and you can throw knives over objects where pallet spawns are while crouched. Me and my friends tested it on PTB. You can do the same with Gunslinger and Hatchets. I still stand by the fact that I don't want to get butt rode by a projectile killer. Plague can't hurt you without M1'ing you. PH is easy to dodge since he stops for 1 seconds before unleashing. Hatchets are a pain in the ass but you just need to dodge 1 then run like hell. If you made the new killer faster, he'd just butt ride you to death. What if Huntress was normal killer speed? You know how unfun that would be? I will say, they should take her hum out and just make it her terror radius since it wouldn't be that bad, though. Honestly, I rather wait until he's released and give it a few months so people could get use to it. A lot of people said Huntress was bad and after they got good with her, there was a lot of hatred on the forums.

Same with Gunslinger. My dumbass advocated for the chain to be harder to break and we got it. Now I hate my life XD so I learned to just chill for a bit and see. I didn't like the Billy CD, though. I still don't. I see why it was implemented but I enjoyed watching a guy rev continuously as I looped them around a pallet XD I miss those days. I'd say give him time but speed increase is not one of them.

When Huntress was released there were also double the pallets and actual infinites.

Totally different game back then, not even comparable.

  • Mindbreaker's viability scales with how good survivors are

Your average survivor will just Dead Hard into a wall or Sprint Burst in circles, but against competent players who are always on gens it can be pretty useful. Only problem is you need better perks to compete with those types of people in the first place.

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 15
