We were hacked?
Looks like a hacker got info on about 30,000 players.

Well that's scary
A little, but data breaches are pretty commonplace these days, if there is no personal or financial data involved I wouldn't be too worried.
It's not that scary at all. This kind of stuff happens all the time, and most of the time the hackers can't do much with the information anyways. That or your information doesn't mean much. Very rarely is information used to do things. It would be scary if this happened to steam or like an email service/banking or whatever.
It's fine man, don't worry about it. There is nothing there of any real value.
Your console name is already public to literally everyone and anyone you interact with, what system you are playing on is hardly of any value to anyone, and your DBD ID is literally ONLY for DBD and BHVR knows all 30,000 of the affected ID's so nothing can be done with that information and they can easily address that without any problem on our end.
Your in-game username you can change to literally whatever you want so I mean....there really was nothing of value or concern taken here. You can breathe easy.
I'm glad BHVR was transparent about this, but it should be noted the information the hackers acquired is worthless. It'd be like someone hacking your computer to find out what your GPU is; they could literally just ask and you'd likely tell them without a second thought.
Well that's a relief. Thank you.
But I wonder if they hacked it because they were angry at the game. Maybe a killer or survivor who got fed up and took it out on behavior.
wonders why this isn't been taken down? no offence when i mention hacking it got took down though no names ec was mentioned and my OP was about why do people feel the need to hack, esp when they are good!
The funny thing is they are telling us this just now, after nearly a week. But they said it's only user names, so I guess it's nothing serious really
Did you even read the OP?
Probably trying to fix the security hole first, making sure it wasn't an inside job, that sort of thing.
uh yes but i mentioned -hacking- my post got taken down
Wait so they got our Info??? How??? Knowing my luck I was definitely one of these players. This sucks man now everyones gonna know I secretly enjoy Taylor swifts music, this is so bad😰
Because the context that you were talking about is against forum rules. You are not allowed to discuss cheating publicly on the forums.
This thread is an entirely different subject matter.
well i cant recall some of the posts but ty that would make sense given Orion was no help so ty
Thanks for everyone's replies on this. So your player ID is basically just your username?
I thought it was obvious, upon reading the OP, that what you called "hacking" (which is really just cheating) and what the OP calls "hacking" (actual hacking) are different concepts. Just because you use the same word doesn't mean it's the same thing. I'll be more explicit next time.
As I understand it, it's an identifier, not unlike a username, but it's unique to your account, like Steam ID64.
No problem. You did however say that your post was about "why people feel the need to hack" and threads like that are generally shut down fairly quick. Not necessarily because of your post itself, but because those topics always get out of control and are just beyond moderation, the only thing they can do is delete them.
A moderator should have informed you of this, that's a failing on their part if they did not do so after deleting your thread.
Sorry, but saying i thought it was obvious didn't help but it's okay someone else sought the -obvious- :)
I had just been wondering why people do it especially if they are good, the player was, oddly Mr Mushwin got the same player in his game doing same thing lol
I understand, but lets please avoid this discussion here now, it's quite off topic.
Thank you.
Indeed.
The first thing a company should do when discovering a data breach is letting the data subjects know that their data has been compromised, hence BHVR telling everyone in-game. On top of this, it wouldn't be good form for them to delete posts people make on the forums about it, would almost look like they are covering it up.
HOLY #########!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
