I don't see these long queue at all for survivor. It's a local issue of certain areas and time of the day if anything, not a universal one.

At least it's an issue for many, many certain areas and lots of times of the day when I take a look at how many people are complaining about survivor queue times.

Imagine only playing half of the game then hating it instead of trying out the other half for a while to keep things fresh.

Atm, it's either playing killer (unfun) or having survivor queue times that last as long as matches (unfun).

If somebody doesn't have fun, it's the right thing to do to just play other games.

We seen DbD's e-sport potential. It was horrible.

So many people attempted to make a working rule set and no one found anything that worked. It basically boiled down to Survivor V Survivor teams while almost ignoring the Killer. It doesn't help that the "official" DbD tournament was a disaster as well.

It tells a lot about the game that nobody can come up with a working tournament concept.

Even "space esports" won't continue with the DbD tournaments btw.

  • @TheFreak1012 said:

On both sides of this argument people have double standards. Killers should get better at putting pressure and do use excuses a lot, but at the same time a lot of maps are hard to put pressure effectively and survivors don't seem to get that into their heads.

Tunneling is not ok but at the same time if a killer is tunneling the other members of the team should be working on gens and the game should go fine for everyone else. It's really not that big of a deal and I don't think it's worth all the whining survivors are always going on about. Tunneling never goes well for killers and anyone with a brain should know it isn't effective against any group of survivors that isn't brain dead, so killers need to git gud and put pressure.

    Tunneling is

    a) absolutely ok

    b) very efficient

A great way to put pressure on the survivors by taking one of them out of the game as fast as possible.

It's the exact same problem with low ranks. Except the other way around, insanely long killer queues, short survivor queues. This video sums up the problem well.

    https://youtu.be/_1DNS_alCtQ

I haven't heard the rank 17-20 players say "survivors queues are instant, killers queues are long" - where did you get that from?

I'm more or less of the same opinion, barring 4 toolboxes (often with BNPs). Same goes for tunneling as well. There's a difference between the killer choosing to go for the same guy and getting unhooked and doing a gen, then expecting them not to go for you. They both get thrown around a lot and it really starts to make them lose all meaning.

How are you supposed to apply gen pressure if the maps don't allow it?

Also even mediocre survivors can keep the killer at distance for 20+ seconds easily before the killer can land an M1 hit.

  • The devs pretty much openend up the matchmaking so that everybody can get matched with everybody (no matter the rank), in order to help with queue times.

Then there is also the problem that not enough people are playing killer. I don't expect that the devs will openly admit this, but it doesn't matter. It's clear to see when you take a look at the survivor and the killer queues.

  • What the "Yes Men" don't understand is that they are not doing the game any favour. Criticism helps changing the game for the better.

Pretending that problems don't exist or even blatantly making stuff up to "win" a discussion doesn't help anyone. Other players aren't going to be convinced by such "arguments" anyway.

Should have seen the DBD Discord when the ruin nerf was announced. Oh dear.

I very rarely lurk there. I assume I didn't miss anything.

  • @Apple2o Not caring about what these players write is definitely the right thing to do. But I think one should also report these players.

Somebody else might take this stuff more seriously and feel bad about receiving those messages. And in the end, we don't need people who send death threats in this community.

  • @Apple2o said:

I get people telling me to kill myself every now and then. Ironically, they usually killed themselves on hook, so I make sure to point that out to them.

Do you report death threats or do you just laugh it off?

  • @Rivyn It always wonders me how so many people can get this amount of death threats in the after-game chat.

I don't think that this is always only the first or second time that these players write stuff like that. They must have been reported countless times.

"Devour, M&A, Sloppy are toxic", says the key user with Sprintburst + Adrenaline. What a comedy.

  • @goat10em said:

This is the most irritating part. Ruin was changed because it was not fun. I would argue it is even less fun to wait 10 minutes for a match then to go against these super new killers and have no challenge at all.

Ruin was changed to lessen the frustration for new players. What do the devs think this rank 20 is going to do? Happily continue playing the game?

  • I don't even see why it would be necessary to change Ruin. If you can't hit skillchecks, just cleanse the totem. Even a rank 20 can cleanse a totem!

  • It's true.

I'm waiting for the "you don't have to tunnel, just get better"-comments, though. And "by tunneling you ruin the survivors' experience, doing gens doesn't hurt anybody". And "just apply pressure".

  • Keys are silly. Pay attention in the lobby and if anyone brings a key, adjust your loadout to deal with the problem. Alternatively, you are allowed to dodge lobbies (you can't expect everyone to have Franklin's, for example).

  • @deadbyhitbox said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1000330#Comment_1000330

No, the queue times are due to the recent horrible matchmaking changes. There is not a shortage of killers or survivors.

Instant matches for killers and long queue times for survivors - how can that be caused by bad matchmaking?

If the killer : survivor ratio is good, it's either good queue times for everyone or - in case of bad matchmaking - bad queue times for everyone.

  • With the current state of the game, I expect the removal of ranks before an introduction of rank rewards.

  • @BenZ0 said:

    @Psypho_Diaz

And you should get out of your rage or frustration and open your mind for the meanings of other ppl. I didnt meant you have to do 5 gens alone, why do you complain about facecamping and not to your teammates that are supposed to to the gens WITH YOU ... because you know... its a 1v4 not 1v1

That's right. It's the survivors' fault that the game went how it went, so the logical thing would be to be annoyed by the teammates, not the killer.

  • Killers who facecamp don't care about pips or bloodpoints.

And if the killer ends up with 3+ kills and 15k+ bloodpoints, it's the survivors' fault anyway.

  • Moris. Or switch to survivor.

  • BBQ encourages killers to leave the hook. If you prefer them camping, your suggestion makes sense.

  • Of course, survivor is easy and killer is stressful. That's why the queue times are how they are.

As long as the playercount doesn't drop, I don't expect the game to change.

  • Your 1st and 3rd perk are too weak. If you would buff them a bit, they could have potential.

2nd suggestion: The devs obviously don't want to add anything to the game that increases the time that survivors have to spend on gens.

  • Let everybody play how they want (as long as there is no cheating/exploiting). If they want to Insidious-LF-meme, let them.

The killer is not the fun provider for survivors.

  • A lot of people feel like you, that's why we don't have a lot of people playing killer atm.

You play weak killers without Ruin, you never camp & tunnel (even when it would be strategically necessary) - it's "normal" that you are getting stomped with how the game currently is.

If you cannot find fun in playing less generous (tunneling, using moris), then I suggest you do something else than playing killer. Playing a video game should not make you feel bad.

  • @NMCKE said:

Then you're going to have 1 hour games where the last survivor doesn't want to die. I personally think the hatch should stay in the game in my opinion, since they prevent that from happening. 😁

You could easily prevent that scenario. Just add a timer or make crows appear if the surv doesn't do anything...there are a lot of possibilites.

It's not going to happen anyway.

  • DbD would have had great potential to be a big title if the devs had taken balance, performance, ranks, matchmaking etc. seriously.

However, it seems like they want this game to be party game. Big waste.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

You see, I think they understand what they're actually doing. Which is the problem.

I'm not often them tinfoil hat types of guys, but I very strongly believe that they're not making this change for trying to balance the game. They're making this change to make more money -- to sucker new players in to get at their wallets easier.

Normally I wouldn't believe something like that, but the language in those developer notes has put me very much on edge. Literally every single thing in those update notes was throwing veteran players under the boss for the new players which, great, they're making new players have an enjoyable experience at the cost of the veteran experience, so ultimately they've solved nothing.

The Rift as well has put me off as well because I still strongly believe a F2P system like a battle pass in a game that is pay to play, has several DLC "expansions", many of which must be paid for, and cosmetics which are more expensive than most games, with a very high amount of time required to grind to progress through the game, is already pushing the boundaries.

The sad thing is that even if that was their intention, I think almost everyone would have been actually happy for Ruin to get changed and not needing to run it if they just addressed the core problem.

This isn't tinfoil, this is most likely what's happening to the game at the moment.

The DbD playercount hasn't been growing since summer 2018, despite some great licenses. Who is the target group they earn the most money with? Survivors who buy DLCs and most importantly cosmetics.

So the "logical" step for a company would be to make changes that would make survivor players happy.

(Which is not the smart thing to do. DbD had the potential to be a major title with a huge playerbase which could have made BHVR an insane amount of money, if they had taken balance and bug removal seriously. It baffles me that they instead chose to go the way of a niche party game. What a waste.)

the worst part is that they thought we wanted our gatekeeper emblem and that's why we used it rather than we use it to slow down how god darn fast the gens go

The devs didn't think that, they just said it. They can't really say "we know Ruin is used because gens get done so fast but we nerf it anyway".

Lmao! As a solo survivor, I have to say that you're idea about getting rid of the hatch sucks. I can't communicate with my team, nor do I know their skill level. If I get stuck with taters, and I'm doing well, usually that hatch is my ONLY chance at an escape and my reward for playing well. Maybe take it out of SWF matches but solo players shouldn't be punished for having teammates that don't know how to play.

As a solo surv, I would welcome the total removal of the hatch. At least then my mates would know that their only chance at survival is getting the gens done and they would stop camping the hatch.

  • @twistedmonkey Nerfs to survivor meta perks? "It happen to them all and frequently." Same meta since 2017. "The time frame doesn't matter."

Also claiming that today's DS is weaker than the old DS and solo players are using DS a lot less... look around, DS is everywhere.

I don't feel like it makes sense to continue with this discussion. No hard feelings, see you around!

  • @twistedmonkey

The introduction of exhaustion was absolutely necessary for any attempt at balance. When was that, btw? 2017?

MoM was an incredibly unbalanced perk and everybody knew it needed to get nerfed before the perk even went live. Some people say this perk was only created to sell Ash. Not a good example here.

DS has never been nerfed, only changed.

Which leaves us with SC which got nerfed a long time ago and which is not relevant for high rank gameplay.

I've been seeing the same survivor loadout of BT + DS + exhaustion perk of your choice + whatever since 2017/2018. So following the logic of the Ruin nerf, it would be time to nerf a lot of other perks as well to shake up the meta. 🤷‍♀️

  • @FireHazard Ruin gets nerfed. DS didn't get nerfed, it got changed. That's a big difference.

So back to my question: Ruin gets nerfed because everybody is running it - should the same apply to the meta survivor perks?

  • @FireHazard So when a perk is valid and therefore it gets used a lot, the perk should get nerfed so that players would be forced to use other perks - do we apply the same rule to survivor perks? Because I'm seeing the same perks all the time.

  • You are right with this: Too many killers leaving the game/switching to survivor leads to too long surv queue times, which leads to survs leaving the game/the death of the game.

The thing is: We aren't at this point yet. The total playercount is not decreasing.

Significant killer buffs would only happen when it became necessary for keeping/growing the total playercount, or more precisely the sales of DLCs and cosmetics.

  • With the current ranking and matchmaking system, we are already kind of experiencing what it feels like to just match everyone together, no matter how skilled/experienced everybody is.

The only people that have fun in this scenario are those who enjoy stomping weaker players.

Having no ranks at all would worsen the situation. The right thing to do would be to take the time to come up with a good ranking system and then match players properly with each other. If then there is a lack of killers at the end of the day, the devs will have to make changes so that more people want to play killer.

  • @YaiPa said:

super grinding system, awful matchmaking that leads to awful killer experience, long queue times, high skill cap that hits hard when you reach purple ranks.

i don't know how somebody can get addicted if he play every 10 minutes/gets destroyed by people with much more experience than him.

And to complete the new gaming experience, you'll get some well-wishes in the after-game chat.

  • AFAIK the devs haven't categorized "hook tech" as an exploit. (If somebody uses this against you in a match, just hard camp the hook. It's the most efficient thing you can do.)

Besides that, I don't think anything is going to happen to you when mori-spam for 30 seconds. The decision is up to the community managers but I feel like the amount of time would have to be a bit more significant to qualify as punishable.

End-note: The mori animation shouldn't be cancelable, then we would not need to take about any mori-spam related issues in the first place.

  • @Rivyn Figuring out the issue is not the problem. You don't have enough killers in general (and especially not at high ranks), and you don't have a lot of people playing at low ranks.

To not make queue times too long for low ranks, they just get thrown into any match where there is a free spot.

And because of the lack of killers, you'll always have to wait if you want to play survivor.

And if red rank survs would only get matched against red rank killers, that would probably mean 30+ minutes queue times for them.

  • Like the others said, not enough people want to play killer with how the game currently is. No matchmaking algorithm can fix this.

If you want to have short queue times, you'll have to play killer.

    .

”woooooo! Finally got a game! That was was a horrendous wait time!”

    -dodge-

I'm already playing less, one of the reasons being the survivor queue times.

  • Not going to happen. The only thing we'll see is even longer survivor queue times.

I don't understand what you want to say. Please don't use Google Translate. It's better to write in simple sentences that you wrote by yourself. We don't care if the grammar is not 100% perfect.

  • Of course the Ruin nerf wasn't necessary. It's like this: The playerbase hasn't been growing for 1.5 years, despite some great licenses that have been added to the game. Now the devs want to make changes to the game so that new survivor players don't stop playing after a couple of tries.

But Ruin isn't the main reason why people stop playing, so this won't solve the problem.

I'm sure they'll be very happy when queue times go through the roof. When you take away one of the very few things that keeps the pace of the game bearable for one side, do you really expect them to keep playing?

Not at all, I expect people to play less killer and survivor queues to get longer. It's a short-sighted decision that will most likely backfire.
