The matchmaking change caused a sudden rise in the demand for higher ranked killers. Alot of games have matches like THIS one where the game grabs for a red rank killer if even a single member of the survivor team is red ranks, where as before...it wouldve been searching for lower ranked killers instead.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujv2iHoTkmU&t=138s
In this match, only 2 members of the survivor team are red rank against Umbra at rank 1. The other 2 survivors are ranks 8 and 17. The old matchmaking system wouldve been grabbing for a non-red rank killer. The new system is TRYING to grab for more red rank killers. Its not that theres a sudden lack of killers, just that the system is grabbing for them MUCH more often.
I can't speak for pc, but on PS4 it's like this: No matter which rank you play killer on, no matter which rank you play survivor an, no matter which time of the day - you get instant killer lobbies and you have to wait as survivor. There is no way around the fact that not enough people are playing killer in general.
-
Not enough people playing killer, especially at higher ranks, which leads to long survivor queue times, again especially at higher ranks.
The now obvious "solution" is to have yellow & green & purple killers play against red rank survs all the time. This way, red rank survs won't suffer that much from bad queue times.
Whether this is a good idea and whether this will lead to even less people wanting to play killer in the long run, that's another topic.
-
Yes. Some of these challenges are badly designed, so I'll help.

I thought BHVR implemented a penalty for disconnecting. Literally have not seen it take effect. People still disconnecting left and right.
It was only a 48-hours-test for players on pc and switch. Nobody is getting punished at the moment.
There is a problem with the dc penalties though: DbD is so buggy that a lot of people got punished during the test just because the game kicked them from matches. It's a difficult situation.
-
We have had lots and lots of suggestions for second objectives here on the forums, including the totem one and several ideas about finding generator parts etc. before you can start on gens.
These threads have been existing for a long time now. It's not about a lack of ideas for a second objective. It simply looks like the devs don't plan to/want to implement a second objective.
-
Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄
-
So many people are complaining about this. And it's absolutely no surprise that this was going to happen. The devs should have simply made it so that dc's count towards this challenge. This challenge is a prime example why this community has this certain reputation.
I haven't tackled this challenge so far and after what I've read, I probably won't do it.

At last someone gets it. People are acting like I just don't know how to do the challenge even though I've been playing this game since day 1. I play ps4 aswell so dc penalties aren't going to be active here until summer 2020 lmao.
I see so many people complaining that they can't complete this challenge because of the dc's. It tells a lot about this community, but sadly and honestly, this wasn't surprising.
dc's should definitely count towards this challenge and I hope the devs will change that and keep this in mind for the future challenges.
Btw, I'm also on PS4 since day 1.
-
You are now on level 6/70 and can only continue to play on the 6th, and you still want to reach level 70? It's not doable, not enough time, sorry.
-
Solo survivor (at red ranks) is a lot worse than one year ago. It becomes more and more frustrating, so I'm playing SWF a lot more often.
I'm on PS4, so my experience is also suffering from bad game optimization/poor performance. It was also way better one or even two years ago.
You could say, I'm not that happy.

@Carpemortum said:
It's a challenge. Its not supposed to be EASY.
Dont focus on it. Play your game. If you're in a position to basement hook, do it.
But planning EVERY game you play around a single, NON TIME LIMITED challenge, is stupid and will only frustrate you, and everyone else complaining about the time challenges.
They are, and I repeat this, NOT TIME SENSETIVE, CHALLENGES.
Not time sensetive: they will never go away.
Challenge: something difficult or requiring skill to overcome a difficult task. Something to be EARNED through trial and error, luck, or obtained skill.
It seems like the biggest problem is that so many people dc just to deny the killer the challenge. This has nothing to do with "easy" or "hard", it's a huge design flaw and completely out of the killer's control.
-
Most of us realize how lacking the Emblem system is for rating a player's performance. We need another system.
A working system could be a mix between rating bloodpoints AND kills. (If you as killer totally dominate the survivors, you won't have a lot of bp, so it's also important to take kills into consideration, for example.)
-
Did you sit at 4 gens when they got finished or did you repair the value of 4 gens (400%)?
-
@Xerge said:
Never relaxing to play as killer unless you play against bad survivors.
This so much. If you are facing a true SWAT team, even playing Nurse is not relaxing.
-
Pipping as a survivor is super easy atm. Add to that the new soft rank reset and you'll have half the community at red ranks within the next month. Rank was never less meaningful than it is now.
-
@Rivyn said:
So that rank 4 really was gone, and it just doesn't show up? Because id they weren't, wouldn't they need one more gen for the hatch to appear? If he really was gone, would he show with points?
When 3 gens are done, the hatch spawns when 2 survivors are dead. Even if the first person's dc didn't count for the system, the rank 3 could still escape through the hatch.
And occasionally, the system is really buggy when it comes to showing dc's. It's very likely that the rank 4 did indeed get disconnected.
-
Sadly, DbD is in such a buggy state that dc penalties also punish people who haven't done anything wrong and got kicked from the game.
So we can choose between
a) punish everyone, including those who did nothing wrong
b) punish nobody, including those who dc intentionally
c) the devs make huge improvements on the game, then proper dc penalties can get implemented
However, I have doubts about option c). No offense, but people getting kicked from matches has been a problem for ages. It doesn't look like the devs can solve this problem.
-
It is hard if you don't play with a full SWF group, it's a nightmare if you play solo.
I would really like it if the devs would not include challenges that put solo players at such a big disadvantage next time.

well i didn't say hex perks were op i said Ruin was the only "op" perk in quotations which in the english language means it can be considered that to some people, and the suggestions you gave wont help the problem but add to the problem.
also if you read threw one of my comments i stated this: Maybe they could also revise all Totem Placements on the maps and make them super hard to find, i find that some are harder to find then others like i will find one totem out in the open, while another hidden in a tiny corner.
I get that playing with inexperienced random teammates gets frustrating sometimes, but there is no way that game mechanics should get nerfed or buffed for rank 15s. If it gets too frustrating for you, either cleanse the totem yourself or play with SWF teammates.

ok but neither of these things would happen after the first week that DC penalties are implemented on all platforms due to people dcing and realizing they will be punished for DCing, maybe low ranks would alot more but they eventually would either not be able to play but once a day or they will learn their lesson and not DC.
It wouldn't be "necessary" for survivors to abuse your idea of a dc compensation every match, but only when the situation "requires" it for tactical reasons.
It would be totally possible to dc once or twice per day without severe time punishment.
-
Hex perks are not op. (In fact no killer perk is op.)
If you get annoyed by random teammates searching for the totem, just cleanse it yourself. Bring a map/Small Game/etc. and it won't take long even if the totem spawn isn't as silly as it often is.

did you not read the part of after the dc penalty is added, this would make it so people dont dc due to being on death hook to help their team, and would have to wait a long time due to their stupidity.
im gonna assume you just read the title and nothing else.
I read everything you wrote. I don't get why you assume people wouldn't dc on death hook to help their team.
Also don't ignore other scenarios, like the 3-gen-setup.
-
There are many things that help against getting tunneled: BT, DS, insta-heals, teammates who can tank hits...
While DbD is not e-sports, it's PvP and therefore competitive. No side is obligated to play soft/generously so the opponent has better chances at winning.
Btw, a lot of killers who don't tunnel & camp get still teabagged at the exit gates and insulted in the after-game chat as a "thank you for playing nice". So since so many survivors obviously don't appreciate it when the killers play generously, it's a logical consequence that killers stop playing that way.
-
I dislike bait threads.
-
Why is it a huge disadvantage for the survivor team when somebody dc's at death hook??
This could be easily abused: "I'm dead anyway - here mates, get a free gen!"
It would also be a "counter" to the 3-gen-scenario where the survs would only have to sacrifice one of them to solve their problem.
-
I'm a survivor main, I also play killer (mainly for bloodpoints and because of bad surv queue times).
I like Meg & Freddy best. (Fred was already my favourite back then when he was the weakest in the game.)
-
Not at all.
I think it's toxic when people go out of their way to use game mechanics just to annoy others, and not because they want to win a match.
-
@Karl_Childers said:
It’s also not balanced around a game vs 4 solos, that’s for damn sure. Balance currently is a hybrid of solo/SWF.
The problem is that solo survivors often don't work properly. When I end up with random teammates where everybody is actually playing decently, we usually have a good match.
But you can't balance a game for people sitting in a corner.
-
The Emblem system is telling you to git gud.
Just kidding obviously, most of us realize how bad the Emblem system is and that we need another system to rate our ranks. Your case is a great example.

Because it was a sudden thing that happened all of a sudden. If it got worse over time instead of overnight you might have something there.
Let's look at the facts:
If the killer : survivor ratio was good and (because of bad matchmaking) survivors would have long queue times, this would also mean that killers would have to suffer from long queue times. Is that the case? Obviously not.
A good killer : survivor ratio with long survivor queues and instant killer queues is simply not possible.
And no, it wasn't a sudden thing. I've been playing on PS4 since the game got released, I'm playing a lot (some killer, more survivor) and it was a trend you could watch for a while.
(Also please don't forget to @ or quote me if you want to let me know that you replied.)
-
I'm afraid we can't get dc punishments with the current state of the game. It's just too buggy.
If the game was more reliable and people wouldn't get kicked from the game all the time, then yes, please punishments for dc's. But DbD is apparently just too buggy. :(
-
I don't like the outfit at all. No offense, but it looks like a worse version of Biker Kate's outfit and I think it doesn't fit Meg. (No, I don't want only sporty clothes for her.)
Also her hair is the opposite of good looking, sorry.
I hope we'll get a head cosmetic with nice, long hair for her soon. The long red hair looked so nice on her.

Ive played this every day since it released on console and one day after an update this happened recently hence why people are only now making threads like this. Killers did not stop playing out of no where.
Look at the facts. The queue times speak for themselves.
I don't know why some people don't want to accept that not enough people are playing killer atm.
-
Easiest: inexperienced Nurse
Hardest: experienced Nurse
-
That's very nice of you! Good job! 👍️
-
I see him occasionally (definitely more often than Hag, Leatherface, Doc, Wraith for example).
-
For the "sacrifice everybody in the basement challenge" you need indeed survivors who don't play so smart (or who are very nice, realize you are doing the challenge and gift you the challenge intentionally, or you need a good map where you can reach the basement from everywhere with perks).
I'd prefer it if the next challenges wouldn't make you so dependent on how your opponents play.
Also a big oversight that needs to get changed: Atm a lot of people are denying the killer a successful basement challenge by dc'ing.
-
@Guilty87 said:
I don't believe its a lack of killer problem at all the problem was all of a sudden a month or so ago after they reverted something to match making its been ######### ever since.
It is a lack of killer problem. I'm on PS4 and everybody is reporting the same: Instant lobbies as killer, long queue times as survivor. That can't be caused by bad matchmaking (otherwise killers would have long queue times, too).
The reason is that not enough people want to play killer at the moment.
-
You can't prevent survivors from dc'ing. That survivors can deny you completing the challenge by dc'ing is a major design flaw. I hope that the devs will at least change that for the next Tome challenges.
You can just keep trying. (You can also ask the survivors if they want to farm with you for this challenge.)

But one side shouldn't have to give up just because the other side wants to win lol..
as I said before its not fun for either side. The rift is a joke lmfao
You could say exactly the same thing to the killer: "You should not have to give up just because the survivor wants to win."
-
@ChronoSeth said:
The reason it should not count as sacrifices is because it is a seldom action with loss to the survivor who disconnected. And the reason for that is from both Survivor and Killer reasons.
Lose and Lose, you did not Sacrifice the Survivor. You did something that angered them, or the other Survivors did something that angered them.
That survivor lost items, pip, bloodpoints.
"The killer did not play how the survivor wanted, so the killer should get punished! Even if the survivor only did not like getting hooked!"
-
@Apple2o Your interpretation of what I wrote is completely off.
But it's funny that I get accused of being a survivor who wants killers to play nice for a change. Usually people tell me I'm a salty killer main. lol
-
It's such a big design flaw that players who dc can deny you the completion of a challenge.
This needs to get changed for Tome 2.

As long as the dedicated servers aren't working properly, I don't want them.
We will probably get information with the update the devs are going to post on the 31st.

Mither gen + commodious incoming ;)
The player just has to sit at the gen when it is getting finished, so it's better to go for aura reading perks to join other survivors who are already working on gens.
-
We need a solution for the scenario where only 2 survivors are left and stop attempting to get the gens done.
This could be a mechanic to reveal or hint at the survivors' location after x amount of time. Alternatively, the game could just end with the survivors getting sacrificed when no gen gets finished within x amount of time after the previous one got finished.
-
These challenges are so unhealthy for the game and the community.
