So I’m at a level in the time where you gotta hook 4 survivors in the basement but I feel survivors are onto that and DC every time I attempt it. I’m also on console. Am I just SOL?
That was so predictable that this was going to happen. Obviously, a dc should count as a sacrifice towards the challenge.

Depends on how you use it. The field currently is very unreliable after someone hits tier 1. You can walk around the map and pass right by someone and they won't scream. After this change, you hit them with the blast, you'll know where they are every time. Combo that with Whispers and you'll have a very easy time tracking survivors.
Will survivors still be able to avoid screaming by hiding in a locker or using Calm Spirit?
-
This is a business relationship, BHVR is the vendor, we are the customers. When a product is faulty, customers complain. It's normal.
Also, we don't complain because we want the devs to feel bad; we complain because we want the game to get better.
-
@Aven_Fallen You can't expect everybody to have a leveled Spirit. Or even wanting to play Spirit.
But as you said, good that you don't dodge when you complain about it.
-
@BloodyNights Oh, I just meant that with a SWF we would have done 5 gens by 3:15, because of the better coordination.

Give it time. With the new ranking system, eventually every killer and survivor will be red and purple every season
Yeah, I expect that to happen, too. Still it doesn't solve the problem with not enough people wanting to play killer.
-
@BloodyNights If you want to know how my story ended: We also got the 5th gen done, one person got downed with NOED and hooked in the basement. Instead of keeping safety distance and looking for NOED (or simply leaving through the gates), the other two let themselves NOED and get brought to the basement as well. I left since the only thing I could have done would have been feeding the killer the 4k.
So it's a great example of the killer depending on the survivors making mistakes.
-
@BloodyNights As you said it, they are professionals who play this game for a living, probably 40 hours a week, with thousands of hours of experience. If the game was balanced, they would 4k 98-99% of the time because they would rarely face survivors with the same level of experience.
I'm a survivor main but I also play killer. I think even 4 solos are more powerful than a killer. The problem is that especially solo players often waste too much time and don't focus on the objective or they make bad tactical decision.
Yesterday, I played solo surv and we got the first 4 gens done in 3:15 minutes. The killer couldn't have done anything to prevent this from happening. He was dependent on me making a mistake in the chase, the mistake didn't happen early enough. I know that with a full SWF it would have been 5 gens, not 4.
-
Survivors not readying up. 2+ toolboxes when I'm not in the mood to bring a mori. Bad ping.
I usually don't have problems to get a match when I play surv, even when I play with a SWF group. From my experience, items are the main reason for getting dodged, not being SWF.
If killers weren't allowed to dodge lobbies/to see the survivors, we would have even less people playing killer. We are already in a problematic situation with instant killer lobbies and long queue times for survivors, and a big lack of highrank killers.

Apparently this is the truth. Because in purple ranks I rarely face a group of purple ranks survivors. It's almost always at least 2-3 red ranks in the game on almost every game I play now between ranks 8-7 and takes forever to rank up. Even if they're all not SWF, survivors can still play and coordinate like a group. If at least half of your team is red ranks, you should be facing a red rank killer. No exceptions.
I'm playing surv at red ranks and I get even green rank killers a lot of the time.

I did think it was a lot shorter; but when I was looking back at the wiki it said it was only half speed while running so I wasn't 100% sure. I just remember it being really, really damn overpowered at a time when the maps had 2x the pallets and they were all vacuum pallets.
Ah, you are right, when Vigil was added, the recuperation while running was only half speed. There was a time when that wasn't the case and Sprintburst came back after 40 seconds, no matter whether you were running or not.

It was such a broken combo back in the day. Sprint burst + vigil, getting a burst every ~60 seconds and you could basically hold W in chase and the killer was never going to catch up if you had the slightest clue how to loop.
It was a bit more than every 30 seconds, not 60. Even worse.
Edit: ~60 seconds is correct, also see my post below

You can't lag switch anymore, the servers don't allow it.
We don't have dedicated servers on PS4 and Xbox. Nothing changed for us.

So... You took your frustrations on people that have done nothing wrong to you? How mature.
You could also say that the survivors' behaviour from the OP's first game wasn't mature. Nobody did anything against the rules, neither the survivors nor the OP.
It isn't realistic to expect that a player will just swallow such a high amount of frustration. Some kinds of gameplay fuel some other types of gameplay. It's a cycle.
Btw @JC316 If you see 2+ flashlights in your lobby, try Lightborn. I often get free hits & downs because survivors keep standing in front of me too long, still trying to blind me.

Reminds me of when dedicated servers first came out, and every other game, I'd have a survivor complaining about me lag switching and how I was gonna get banned for it.
...Yeah.
I guess they didn't get the memo.
When I watch pc players, I'm glad that we don't have dedicated servers yet on PS4, even when that means facing the occiasional lag switcher/killer with really, really bad internet.
-
The game is not at all balanced for red ranks.
Solo survivor is often frustrating, at every rank, even red ranks. If it gets too frustrating for you, play SWF. You can find people to play with here on the forums, for example.
-
You could play in a full SWF group. When I play in a full group, we often have good games where somebody doesn't get hooked the entire game. If you can play coordinately, you can just do the gens while the others do the riskier things.
-
Besides having bad internet not being a bannable issue:
When you know that your internet gets bad when your family gets home, it would be decent of you to play survivor as long as we don't have dedicated servers. Or talk to your family that not everybody uses the internet at the same time.
Lag switching or very bad killer internet makes the game highly unfair or even unplayable for survivors.
-
It's only natural that people on the forums talk about what needs to get changed about the game (in their opinion), not about what can stay as it is.
And depending on which roles they play, how experienced they are and how much they know about the game, some users will make suggestions that are reasonable and others will make unreasonable ones.
If the official forum wouldn't exist, these discussions would take place elsewhere.
-
For illustration, here is a pic of me hiding on the new Yamaoka map. I can just sit in the grass in the killer's plain line of sight, he doesn't see me.
-
The devs should change this, it should count.
It should also count the other way around for killer challenges when survivors are ragequitting.
-
An animated spider would be a nightmare for the game's performance.

I wonder why there are less killers
it's an unsolvable mystery
-
Agreed. A dc should grant everyone else a black pip if the players can't collect enough points. (Except for SWF teammates, of course.)
-
I prefer how it is now.
-
Sounds to me like the real problem is how your random teammates react. All I can say is: Play with a full SWF group when solo surv is too frustrating. (I know how frustrating it can be. I play solo or only as a 2-men-SWF most of the time.)

Are you worried that BHVR would only collect entrys from the forums?
What do you mean?
-
Agreed. DbD's art team does amazing work in general.
-
We need better totem spawns. Totems spawning right next to gens so that survs don't even have to look for them is definitely too much.
I don't think the effect of Ruin should be base-kit.
-
I think that would take things too far.
If somebody comes up with a great killer mechanic (and that's the most difficult part) and posts it here on the forum, the devs would surely consider it, no matter if there is a contest or not.
-
It feels mostly fine on PS4, but we don't have dedicated servers yet.
-
The perk is more powerful when the survivors don't know whether the killer runs it or not.
The survivors' objective needs to take more time than it currently does, but making NOED base-kit is not the solution.
-
I'm on PS4, too. Yes, we don't have enough killers, especially at high ranks.
-

Possibly.
well I hope we get the extra objectives soon.
I don't think there will be a 2nd objective in the foreseeable future. I'd like to have one, but I don't think it's going to happen.
-
I don't think so. If the devs would add a 2nd objective, they would add the respective killer nerfs at the same time, not earlier.
-
@Boosted_Dwight said:
How come they didn't just make them unstack able instead of reducing the numbers? Not mad just wondering the reason for this? 🤔
The add-ons are now so weak that you are forced to play them together and in combination with slow-down perks, otherwise you won't have a noticeable effect.
Freddy has a lot of weak add-ons, sad situation.
I'm afraid the same will happen to Billy's insta-saw where the obvious solution also would be to make the add-ons non-stackable.
-
My bet: Toolboxes are getting nerfed next.
Next killer nerf: Billy. The only thing about Billy that would need a nerf would be the insta-saw but I'm afraid like with Spirit and Nurse a lot more add-ons will get heavily nerfed. It would be enough to make insta-saw add-ons non-stackable.
-
What's the problem with 99ing the exit gates? I see a lot of things where survivors would need nerfs, but imho this isn't one of them.
-

So, then the only possible explanation is that the killer count drops by ~10k players exactly every time a new big update comes out.
It's the same for me on PS4 with survivor and killer queue times. We don't even have dedicated servers.
It's clear to see: When you get instant lobbies as killer but have to wait as survivor, this means there is a shortage of people playing killer. If there were matchmaking issues, killers' lobby times would suffer as well, but they aren't.
-
@ActualPotatoBtw said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/911717#Comment_911717
From instant queues on both sides to 4-6+ minute-long queues as a survivor as soon as the Dedicated Servers were added on the same day, really seems like there wasn't enough and isn't enough killers.
This is not caused by bad matchmaking. If the survivor : killer ratio was good and bad servers would cause 5 minutes waiting times for survivors, this would also mean 5 minutes waiting for killers.

I didn’t say killers lobbies aren’t instant ? I know they are . Surviver lobbies take 10 mins at least and killers a few seconds , look at my original comment lol
I know. What I don't know is why you can't come to the conclusion that this means that there are not enough killers for the big amount of survivors wanting to play the game. 🤷♀️

Are you a red rank surviver yourself ? Probs not , I am red rank on both and as surviver it wil either be red or purple / rarely green but as killer you get all lvls ....
I'm red. I get matched against green and purple rank killers the majority of my matches. I also have to wait some time for a lobby.
(When I play killer, I get instant lobbies.)
-
Instant killer lobbies + long survivor queue times = not enough killers
-

I think you’re confused .... there discussion is about red rank killers not killers in general
There aren't enough killers in general, there especially aren't enough red rank killers.

@Peanits said:
Have you considered combining it with other effects? Toss on swing chains and you've got up to 12%. Thanataphobia can add up to another 16% (total of 28%), and Dying Light can raise that up even further. And that's only considering action speed modifiers, you could also slap Ruin and PGTW on to slow generators down even more.
On it's own, it's no big deal. But stacking everything together makes it way too much.
If the killer manages to get everything up (full Thana, a lot of Dying Light stacks), he has won the game pretty much anyway, with or without having the perks.
If the killer doesn't have any or a lot of stacks, the stacks aren't really relevant.
Making the add-ons non-stackable would have been more than enough. Imho even that wouldn't have been necessary. Several killers are more powerful than Forever Freddy.
Also the stacked effects don't sound that bad when I keep in mind that the Mechanic's Toolbox without add-ons increases repair speed by 20%.

On console they actually buffed him since release. We were never able to do crazy turns but with the controls update he's a lot better.
Let's not say they buffed him, let's say they fixed him on console.
Btw did you already try him now?

A killer chasing a survivor is the same as flashlight clicky clicky and t-bagging? 😦
-
Besides what the others already stated, keep in mind that a 2k is usually a de-pip.
