It’s still unlucky that it happened, how often do you see three survivors have their deliverance carry them at the same time
I'm trying to look at this mathematically:
You have four survivors:
A gets hooked, get's unhooked by B, giving B deliverance.
Then C gets hooked (cause iirc deliverance deactivates if you get unhooked, right?) and unhooked by D, giving D Deliverance.
Then either A or C get hooked again, and have to get unhooked by the respective other.
That's three hooks in total.
Whether or not the fourth survivor got out is irrelevant here, because if you managed only three hooks but managed to hooked everyone during egc... Noed and slugging, I guess? If so: you deserve the deliverance-extravagnza
edit: yeah wait. a or c would be on second...
yeah, don't make sense
-
wait, doesn't deliverance only work on first hook? and after you unhooked someone?
-
Because it would give him something unique that would also require some skill to pull off. Right now people are using M1 on him because his power is pointless. so let's make it worthwhile. Give people something to show off with.
-
Look, IF you have to compare companies about these matters, use Digital Extremes, the people behind warframe.
300+ employees, better graphics, regular updates, good accessibility. They're canadian, too iirc.
The issue seems more that bhvr seems a little clueless about what to do with their own game as it grew too fast, too big. also they seem to be coding with blueprint or something, which hurts my heart, but would explain a lot of chaos.
-
- dynamic maps etc that adjust to the killer (for both sides), like, denser grass for trapper, different trap colours for hag, smaller maps for low pressure killers (but more hiding spots) etc
- the game punishing camping, tunneling etc
- better dailies and general challenges structure
- the ability to sell items for BP.
-
Yeah, it's six hours cause it stacks.
if everyone else is afk go round doing totems. it's a sucky experience, but better than 6 hours
-
If you're on steam, verify your files if you haven't yet.
also, do you have any programs open alongside the game? any 3rd party extensions to e.g. discord or something?
-
Have you tried all sides? This sounds like a dull question, but damn, the spot for the prompt is finicky at times (similar with totems) like, you can stand right next to the gen and not have a prompt, you move half and inch back, BANG prompt
-
Projectile Killers, not counting huntress, have a hitDOT, not a hitBOX.
I have seen spears, knives and vomit go right through my survivor or others and not take any damage, yet when things hit the wall half the map way it hits?
-
Conclusion: The entity doesn't know how to manifest a second row of weapons

I hope they find a way to deal with those skill deprived egomaniacs!
Not sure if sarcastic or not.
If not: the mechanics are there. We already see that the game can tell who is being chased, what people do, etc.
So, for example, if you rush towards an unhook and then go after the unhooked person they could get a speedboost (even when BT is active if you still go after them) etc.
Same with camping. By what we see in the game so far (it knows when chases start, where characters are etc) it'd be perfectly possible to punish camping by stopping the hookprogression if the killer camps or proxycamps. The came has the mechanics to tell if someone is loitering around the hook or if someone's breaking pallets/gens or looking for other survivors.
Or slugging: the game can tell it's being done and could pick up one of the survivors.
The mechanics are all there.

I'm not denying any of that, all of that is true and it did need a nerf, but something does need to be done to reduce tunneling without making DS an overpowered perk again.
There's been plently of threads about what could be done, and each time you have people cry bloody murder about how tunneling, camping etc are valid tactics, necessary etc.
The community is sadly full of egomaniacs who perceive curbstomping people through abusing mechanics as 'skill'

I am often impressed how people mix and match, personally I buy linked sets :( also they should include more clothing items in the rift
I bought the old cosmetics packs at some point (headcase, 80's suitcase etc) and they have some really nice stuff for the original 4 survivors in them... I'd even argue it's better than what we get nowadays.
-
are we talking full outfits and what supposedly belongs together (excluding linked sets), or stuff you mixed and match?
-
Dwight could be a mimic-based killer. Like, he could shapeshift into gens, lockers, chests, windows, and would grab the survivor victor-style when they interact with him.
Jake could use the crows like hag uses her traps. like, he could mark the crows on the map to function the same way and either teleport to them or have them attack.
-
Bubba, Michael, Ghostface with noed and/or devour (or slinger, michael and trickster with M&A) are the reason I'd want a mode in which certain killers are barred from certain perks. just to see how it goes

I forgot to mention that i am well aware that these killers have "counterplay" but not really in the chase. At least nothing that is any fun for the survivor role. I know how to play Slinger, i know there is nothing they can do in a chase other then drop the pallet right away. So much fun. And "winning" by genrush is not why i played the game in first place, i want exciting gameplay. Slinger/Twins/PH did not proved that by any means.
Yeah. but that's a general problem with the game. I'd say the moment they actually do start to make matches dynamic (like what is on the maps, the structure, the point events) then it'd be safe-ish to come back.
-
If you think Slinger has no counterplay you really might wanna stay away for good
-
I want to know what the people who say he's healthy for the game are smoking...
-
Swamp is one of the maps where the issue with the map-design approach shows best (worst):
Maps are mostly made for the killer they've come with:
Swamp is (theoretically) great for hag: nigh impossible to spot traps, ridiculous totem spawns etc.
Coldwind is billy's map: lots of space for chainsaw runs, very little to really dodge behind.
etc.
And this is a design philosophy that continues till today:
Glenvale has a lot of drop- and trickshot points (like shooting someone off the gallows gen from below or from across the street)
Midwich has long corridors and narrow vaults that make PH's range attack and cages very effective
etc.
Makes one wonder what maps for blight, twins and trickster would have looked like. Blight and Trickster would like have similar maps, at least if ricocheting would be basic for trickster: lots of weird angled walls and nooks and crannies. Twins... i dunno, maybe the catacombs of paris or something? narrow tall corridors charlotte can block?

DBD cannot maintain it’s identity as a horror game if those things change. It’s identity is a strong reason why this game has endured the way it has.
So, you are saying because it is A (HORROR) GAME this stuff has to stay, but at the same time say it's there because of the LORE?
Like... you are saying, killers would really bother with the hooks or just kick gens instead of utterly destroying them? and don't give me the 'the entity makes them' because, no, that is a GAME mechanic. there is in-universe no need for the hooks at all if you get down to it, so kindly do not try to justify scummy and exploitable mechanics with 'lore'
-
Worst part? The stuff he lived through? That's ######### that happened IRL
-
@[Deleted User] said:
"if they are aware these elements would get barred in actual big tournaments,"
Like the Japanese DBD tournament recently that had facecamping Bubba? or tombstone myers?
Or how about Hexy's tournament last year where most killers were doing proxy camp, tunnel and NOED.
They wouldn't be banned at all in tournaments because they are "legit strategies" whether you like it or not. In fact they can be pretty powerful when used correctly.
those are not full-fledge official e-sports league things, like what the devs are apparently going for.
on that level you'd see no bubba or freddy until they get balanced out. (also no OoO or more than one flashlight, and no keys)
-
@TheClownIsKing said:
Here’s the thing.
The role of killer is SUPPOSED to be villainous. The devs intentionally allow some freedom for the player (as killer) to make “villainous” decisions. It is 1 vs 4 after all. As long as cheating isn’t occurring, it’s supposed to be anything goes.
Part of the “horror” experience in this game is for survivors to perceive the killer as a threat and villain, which is only possible if the killer indeed actually is.
Personally, when I play as survivor I always presume the killer might be a tunneller or camper. The first chase I get into possibly could mean the end of the game for me.
It is of my opinion that it’s healthy for survivor players to never expect that they’re entitled to 2 extra chances. The possibility of 2 extra chances (2 hook rescues) exist, but the game is not designed or intended around a hard n fast rule of survivors should always be given their 2 extra chances, and that the killer should accomodate that.
stop.
This is still a GAME.
A game the devs seem out to make competitive, e-sports ready. This means you have to have mechanics that punish scummy playing, and should undo mechanics like multihit bubba etc.
You got to separate things.
Not to mention that countering scummy playing would be good for gamehealth.
-
as people figured, he's all of three killer's weaknesses without their strengths. He feels... jumping a hypetrain that's derailing. A desperate 'we must make a new killer because how else will chapters sell'. a 'we need to get a lot of players in before the quarter's financial report, for the investors.
-
@TheClownIsKing said:
I disagree with your last point. Survivors need to smarten up and treat Deathslinger and Myers just like other Stealth Killers: do not work on gens with large amounts of LoS blockers, and always work on the side of a gen that offers the greatest amount of visibility.
No. Not against deathslinger. Myers, maybe, but even there I'd argue you'd rather be in a spot where he can't stalk you. And being in a clear LoS is a free shot.
-
Same. And this was on call with discord being all fine. Like the game just decided 'oh hey, you are doing totems on a killer with no map pressure (trickster), we can't let you make our new baby sad'

Didnt understood very well, so basically mindgaming is cheating?
Mindgaming that has no substantial counter, yeah. Also, it's not much 'mindgaming'. it's admitting you don't know when you can make a shot but other killers are to hard for you
-
@xEzekanarioX said:
I dont understand the point of faking shots being made by ridiculous people. So what about the people that uses unbreakable with soul guard to abuse it? Or people with BT tanking a hit for their rescuer?
The latter two are tactical, the former is cheating. Some may cry bloody murder over abusing something to gain an unfair advantage is totally a tactic, but these people are probably... I could bring up several real life comparisons, but I won't
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I swear Myers with M&A still feels like he has a bigger terror radius than Deathslinger with M&A. It's the reason I really hate him.
might be because you WILL still get myer's TR while Slinger uses M&A to get shots in, so you don't hear it 'as long'
-
Replace the recoil with a stagger as if he's stumbling forward cause he's more show-off than precision you mean?
Yeah, what the other's said, this seems a haphazard attempt at balancing, like, eesh, is there anything done right with this killer?

Can I interest you in a Capybara

Devotion, Bloodhound, Whispers, Tinkerer on Deathslinger.

What would be the community's thoughts on a chapter that only added maps (mainly for the last three chapters that didn't get any)? The chapter would consist of no new survivor or killer, but multiple new maps and hopefully still the big fixes that comw with every new chapter.
Maps are (so far) available to everyone, whether or not you have the chapter. A maps only chapter would mean you'd have to bar people from playing on those maps, which... no.
Personally i'm more for themed cosmetics for all original characters (and the licensed ones that get greenlit for it)

There was so much negative feedback on these forums, how can you feel scammed when it was clear exactly how bad this killer was from the very beginning?
Hoping that the devs can't mess up majorly 3 times in a row (5 or 6 if you count mid chapter patches and events since the blight chapter)?

@MadLordJack said:
The assymetrical nature of the game feeds player entitlement. If a survivor never really plays killers they don't know what killers have to do to win. They then abuse killers as much as possible because the killers are breaking this imaginary rulebook, please ignore the fact that they themselves don't give a damn about their opponent. Or they're just bullies, because ironically it's easier to bully people as a survivor.
(This makes it so that the harder role is also the most abused and so people play it even less.)
On top of this, few killers never really play survivor and don't know what that entails, especially solo survivor. These killers just assume everyone is a hardcore sweaty SWF team with full meta builds (and unfortunately, they are often right), and so get conditioned into thinking that everyone is out to get them and that they have to pound their chest and roar and bite everything that gets close. They also don't care about their opponent.
And on top of all that, you've got solo que survivors that don't understand how strong SWF is and how much it changes the game, not just because of coms but because it decreases the likelihood of having potatoes that get you killed. They get mad at everything they see the killer bringing (sometimes rightly so) but often lack perspective to admit that they are playing the weakest role in the game. These players tend to want killers to stick to The Rulebook the most and will be the first to call Trapper OP completely unironically.
TLDR: People don't know and don't care about what everyone else has to deal with.
Not to mention how many fogwhisperers AND dev and managers are pushing the notion
'if you don't get 4ks in before the third gen pops/if you don't have all gens done before the 3rd hook you're a lousy player and should uninstall the game'
how often the idea is 'the game is only fun if you completely devastate and mock your opponents'
Look around how many here are insisting that tunneling, slugging and camping are not only legit tactics but 'necessary'. They aren't. They are bad choices someone makes because they can't stand the idea of not curbstomping their opponents.
Look how many likewise are claiming stealth is no legit counterplay and how 'only chases are fun', because, again, looping and juking is meant to mock the opponent.
Just because there are worse communities around doesn't mean this one doesn't have a serious problem.
-
saw someone complete it on stream: when premo goes off point where you are looking and then turn left slightly to the side and point again a few times

Good luck on that quest in any way :D

@Lord_Tony said:
this killer is a prime example of BHVR afraid of releasing good killers.
So every new killer from here on out is going to be bad in this survivor sided game.
it's less 'afraid of releasing good killers', it's more 'afraid of doing anything significantly different' because of all the, well, crybabies in the community that wouldn't rest to make everyone miserable if bhvr would do anything to shake up the gameplay and take away their iWin buttons.
just look at the cries of bloody murder because of the ds change. all cause these players can't use it to mock killers anymore. Imagine what would happen if the devs would go and introduce a killer where you e.g. would have to do totems.
Or on the flipside, imagine what would happen if the devs would decide 'you know what? frustration ISN'T fun actually, let's introduce mechanics that punish slugging, tunneling and camping for good'.
Imagine what would happen. Seriously, imagine.
DbD has a relatively small community, all things considered. There's a stead flux of coming and going, and the devs try to keep people. and that's the easiest if you appeal to the smallest common denominator: people's ego or an ongoing hype.
do you think it's by chance they released this chapter now? or that their rhytm is pretty much every quarter/third of the year? that's the numbers investors look at. All the kpop fans that might have started the last two days are on the stats. it won't matter if they leave within the next two days, the investors won't know.
-
As this is from last year: How's the progress on the killers that came out since?

It's the same case with legion. Release a garbage killer but make them look "good" so that the whales buy cosmetics. And the cycle continues.
they should have just given the power to legion and given them a 90's anime bundle
-
going back to hook doesn't mean tunneling. it just means I know for certain where a survivor will be around (not the freshly unhooked). and if they unhooked themselves I'll respect that
-
if you feel threatened by a perk that counters your slugging for the 4k plans, you might wanna look into a different main to get 4k without slugging?
seriously: unbreakable is a decent and pretty well balanced perk. and it makes me wonder if there's some inner-team war going on between one side that tries to discourage stuff like slugging etc and one that tries to encourage it.
two houses both alike in incompetency...
-
Also to summarize what's wrong with the killer:
He feels like the combination of three killers' weak points without the elements that balance them out
- His wind up is Huntress, without the direct injuries
- his hitbox is Deathslinger's, without the 'reward' of being able to pull the survivors in and hit them or cause damage even if they break free.
- the laceration is Plague's, just that it goes down instead of making downing survivors easier, potentially, and providing you with a ranged attack (again potentially)
-
Incorrect. Open 'blood and bones' by blake robinson instead and you can pretty much the same with Ghostface and Pig.
EDIT: Further options:
- 'Nightmare Parade' by fake type for Oni or Spirit
- Bugger Off by Fiddler's Green for Deathslinger and/or Blight
this might end up a whole list

It’s not that I own with him it’s just I took time to understand he isn’t huntress or death slinger.
this community still doesn't know how deathslinger works, you're asking a bit much.
Snark aside:
The issue is the new stuff feels lackluster. A chapter for the sake of jumping a hypetrain and because they have to meet their release schedule. it's another killer lacking polish and a rather bland survivor. there was potential, but it's not really used. every killer takes time to get used to, but in this community people are focused on quick kills, not finesse. Best prediction one can make is : we'll see a lot of freddys and bubbas with trickster's perks, and a few m1 tricksters with M&A. maybe the rare player who does 'understand' him the way you say, but even then it won't be anything new cause people will likely use the same kinda crutch perks we see on Deathslinger and Huntress (assuming they made Iron Maiden work on him)
-
@foxsansbox said:
Tunneling isn't scummy. It is a valid, often effective tactic that killers can deploy with mixed success. Likewise, survivors have tools and strategies that that they can deploy to counter and even take advantage of tunneling, again, with mixed success.
Some of my best games as killer incorporate tunneling to create target switching opportunities and some of my best games as Survivor involve my perk Kindred literally doing all the work and allowing my team to 3 man escape against a very thirsty Leatherface.
tunneling shouldn't be perceived as 'valid', by all means. even in-universe, the entity's ought to be annoyed by all the hopeless, annoyed and infuriated survivors. it's like a diet of rotten lemons in-universe.
out-of-universe: lbr, as far-fetched as it sounds, but tunneling, camping and slugging ultimately result in long Qs because people leave the game. there is a flux of new players, but a good chunk leaves for good because the game is just frustrating all around. (the lore is nice though, mostly, which is pretty much the sole reason i'm staying, personally)

As you really don't have anything else going for you right now.
I played this killer for 3-4 hours and I have have never felt so tired and deflated before. I normally play rank 1-2 and im down to rank 4 and this killer is ROUGH! I have never had a game actually make me regret spending money until this moment and I even bought the twins DLC(I dont regret it because its satisfying to kick Victor idk why lol) I don't understand how you see to achieve lower and lower results with each added chapter. I think the last good chapter that was added was Silent Hill and that probably because Konami was around to hold the devs hand(or keep them hostage until it was right)
I think the answer is this:
They have investors who want to see results (aka the game making money). this is easiest done by throwing out half-baked chapters and cosmetics on a more or less regular schedule, because there will always be people who might be smitten by it.
They could focus on QOL and interesting things, expand the mechanics, modes, lore etc, but that would mean mid- and long-term results, not quick results. And investors hate not getting quick money. For the same reason there's such a focus on making the game look high-end, cause investors want next gen graphics, because 'realism is the pinacle of art' or some crap.
So, in that way Trickster embodies DBD: all looks meant to be enticing but rotten, hollow and obnoxious underneath a thin not-at-all shiny surface
