They should copy the system Klei uses for giving away free skins, so that everyone can obtain the rewards if they want to. Get rid of the dumb exclusive, limited code system that realistically only PC players can use.

What is this system and how does it work?

I am also confused why this thread is now in General Discussions - it was in Feedback before, and I think it makes more sense for it to be there than here?

@Gay Myers (Luzi) you seem to have it moved the thread. Was this intentional? The related thread (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/200005/redeem-codes-exclude-console-players) was moved from General Discussions to Feedback, and this thread was moved from Feedback to General Discussions - the exact opposite. I would expect that both threads belong in the same subforum, either both General Discussions or both Feedback.

It's just a charm, get over it.

Your logic can be turned around. It's just a charm. Okay. Then there is no harm in devaluing it by making it fairly accessible to all players.

    A general comment:

To clarify, I am not saying console players are disabled.

The problem is the same for console players, but for a different reason. It is unfair that console players cannot participate fairly in this challenge.

  • I have always read the forum rule as "Don't encourage people to mass disconnect on a certain day" or "Don't encourage people to spamflood the support" or anything along those lines. I would also like a clarification on this, as with how this rule has been recently applied I am under the impression that I do not understand the rule correctly.

Could the forum rule page be updated please to be a bit more specific?

  • @Mandy said:

Nobody is censoring anything, people are free to discussing but organising attacks on our outlets is something that is prohibited in our rules - hence the thread you are referring to, being closed.

If people post that a skin is overpriced, and someone posts "Don't buy it if you think the skin is overpriced", is that a premeditated attack on the store?

That person is encouraging people to not spend money on the store.

    The store is a platform.

Encouraging people not to use it can be considered to be an attack.

Therefore, that person violates the forum rules.

    Is that correct?

Good, have some then. I think it is very telling that you thank people for positive feedback, but not negative one. A lot of threads about the Halloween event have no moderator posts thanking the people posting there for their negative feedback.

    Why is that?

My expectation is that if the feedback in those threads was not respectful and / or insulting the threads would be closed or deleted and the violators warned / jailed / banned. I know that warnings and post deletions are not public, and that I should not base my assumptions solely on those. A thread being locked or a moderator posting a warning to get back on-topic in the thread is visible publicly however, and I expect to see that if a thread is not respectful and insulting, I don't see that happen.

To me it looks like the feedback in those threads is therefore respectful and not insulting, again, on virtue of them not being closed or deleted. But no one is thanking those people for their respectful and not insulting but negative feedback. This gives me the impression that you only care about positive feedback.

I hope you disagree with me saying that you only care about positive feedback because I am wrong about that, but that is nonetheless the impression I have regarding the communication from the developer side about the Halloween event.

BHVR only saw consoles as another channel of revenue. They could reach another playerbase that would buy their macrotransactions, DLCs, Rift and skins. They never cared about consoles otherwise.

    Yep!

The old event cosmetics were made available to everyone because it was unfair that console player's couldn't get them, and they care sooooo much about those platforms. Players who joined the game after one of the battlepasses ended though? Nah, don't care about those. They just can't get certain items ever. Same for the next-gen consoles! Anyone who joins the game on the next-gen console, as in those who didn't own the game before on another platform, won't be able to get the battlepass items. They don't actually care about console players. The old event cosmetics were released to temporarily stop complaints from console players regarding the horrible performance. "See guys, we care about you! We're giving you items that already existed in the game and that cost us nothing to give to you! Now stop complaining about your abysmal FPS and go play with your new outfits."

what I don’t understand is why? They have assets but it might just be greed. You never know

Reminder that last year the summer event was cancelled, supposedly because of working on dedicated servers. Even though:

    • summer event offerings exist from the year before
    • generator skins exist
    • hook skins exist
    • score events relevant for the event exist

No event. Skins that would have fit perfectly for the event even exist. Example:

    Untitled Image

Instead the skins were sold in the store. No event. Then this year of course, again no summer event.

The reality is that events make less money than a battlepass, so that was prioritized instead. For the summer event last year it wasn't yet ready so the skins were sold instead.

And now for this event the battlepass has consumed the majority of the event.

I had the same problem, it randomly worked for me though. I have a hunch that co-op repairs cause it to not count properly. Try repairing solo and see if that works.

Adding to this, I was also running Prove Thyself, which gives bonus points for co-op repairs. It worked when I played without it, and I think when I repaired solo while running it. My guess is that the bonus points cause the challenges to break. Toolboxes too maybe?

I only did it to experiment. With Distressing it is beyond easy to get the max 8k though. I was still shorted 7k as I did earn the max amount.

Maybe Distressing gives uncategorized bonus points, that for some reason count towards the Deviousness cap.

Or the challenge checks your points weirdly, instead of being based on the scoreboard it counts in-game and ignores the points from Distressing, but Distressing causes you to hit the point cap and then the challenge progress doesn't increment anymore. Add-ons that give more Deviousness might also have this issue.

  • @Wesker09 said:

It says "Earn 20,000 Bloodpoints in the Objectives category" and even though I'm getting close to 8,000 a match, I'm only making progress by like 16 points from each game. Can this be looked at possibly?

I meant technically. Maxed out the category and had 4 BBQ stacks with a 75% offering for deviousness. That would give me 22k technically.

The Deviousness offering might work, but not if the points there are considered a bonus. BBQ gives bonus points in no specific category and shouldn't count.

  • Those are bonus points, I don't think they count towards a category specifically. They shouldn't count towards the challenge.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

I just earned 16 points towards the challenge during a match as Wraith. There's no score event that even rewards as few as 16 Bloodpoints, is there??

Myers stalk maybe, if you tap once and then never use it again. Ghost Face too maybe.

I think when Adrenaline triggers it also gives you 2 or so points, but I don't know the name of the score event off the top of my head.

Plague has that too sometimes, I think when you fully infect someone there is a random score event for 2 points or so.

I know this is not going to address all your concerns, but we really are trying to get this matter sorted. Please bare with us, whilst we do this and we really do apologise for what you are experiencing right now.

Protip: Instead of knowingly releasing a patch that makes the game more or less unplayable for console players and then apologizing you could just test your updates, and then when you notice it causes huge issues you can delay the update and fix the issues first. That way people can still play, instead of having to wait.

Apparently most stuff with come back within 6 months, supposedly everything can. But I recall them saying some charms wouldn't.

It's a minimum of six months and it was never stated that all outfit pieces will be available eventually. With the release of the Nurse Blight outfit all of the other items from the first release could be unavailable forever and it wouldn't contradict the previous statements.

This is now the official mascot of Dbd.

Yes this image is super low effort, watermarked and has a thing you are supposed to cut off at the side. But you see, that's why it's such a great mascot! Low effort event, low effort mascot!

  • @gibblywibblywoo said:

Theres 5 challenges. 3 of which are identical.

    Thats it.

And the other two have nothing to do with the event. Use your power to hit 5 survivors in one game as Blight and hit someone after bouncing four times. If you have played Blight you almost certainly have already "completed" these in the past, but because you weren't able to track them until now you have to do it again. Amazing!

  • My guess is that those players are trying to make killers who don't know the disconnect penalty is enabled disconnect.

  • @Pawcelot said:

The only reason why DbD is on console is because BHVR saw a perfect way to get more money. If they cared for them, there would have been a huge focus on console optimization.. which there haven't.

    Yep.

More evidence: The battlepass. Players who buy the game on the next-gen consoles are not able to get the items, unless they have a time machine. If they cared about those consoles they would remove the time constraint of the battlepass, let players buy and progress them whenever they want.

  • @Pawcelot said:

The only reason Legacy stuff ain't being restored to those who lost them to BHVR's very own saving system, is because BHVR themselves are too lazy to bother with it. The old playerbase, those who've stayed with the game since the release, ain't worth their time. There's more money to be had from new players, who will buy DLCs and Macrotransactions before leaving the game from burning out due to all grind and frustrations.

The only reason Legacy stuff ain't being restored to those who lost them to BHVR's very own saving system

I think it is valid for them to expect that players who have legitimate legacy (and didn't lose it, as in they currently have the items) might be upset if even a few players wrongfully get legacy retroactively. I don't know how likely this would be, but to me it seems like that if you hacked your achievements during the "legacy period" (with some sort of achievement unlocker) without actually playing you might be getting legacy illegitimately.

Simple solution for that: Make a survey that is only available to players who currently own legacy items and ask them if they would be OK with giving legacy items to players who should be eligible for legacy but currently don't have it based on the achievement date.

  • @Tactless_Ninja said:

Poor Oni got left put of the blighted lineup. Maybe he'll be in the free track like Nurse was.

Due to COVID there was probably not enough time to make outfits for all killers released since last year, Deathslinger doesn't seem to be getting an outfit either. The stabby part of his gun could be the serum syringe that all killer weapons have attached somewhere, that would look very cool and be fitting. Maybe the "harpoon" that he shoots could look like a syringe too, instead of the spike it currently has.

If only there had been already made outfits, fully finished and even existing in the game files that could be released to keep up the release schedule of new outfits (which is important, and I understand that this kept up and I think it was the right decision to keep releasing cosmetics regularly), so the designers and artists had a lower workload while working from home, giving them time to make the outfits for Oni and Deathslinger.

Just in case it is not clear enough: The battlepass cosmetics are those items. Instead of pushing out new outfits (such as the Oktoberfest items recently) the already existing items could have been put on the store instead. It should be much less work to sell existing items that already exist in the game files than making completely new ones and then selling those.

It could be that whatever object is bugged has a "boundary" that is bigger than the basement. It might be the stairs, maybe the stair object is the same as for the new MacMillian maps as there is a new shack or a modified version, which has the broken boundary. The basement stairs seem to be special as you can't blink into them - maybe that's why the house is broken.

Obviously this means, You just have to take the path of challenges that is not containing Licensed Character Challenges.

Seriously, you are quick to expect the worst here.

I don't think it means that. It specifically says "Tome", and that contains the lore entries. The lore entries for the characters are usually tied to the challenges specific to the character.

I agree though that you will likely be able to finish most challenges and be able to reach the end of the specific Tome even if you don't have the licensed characters, as @SurpriseSurprise says here:

    @[Deleted User] said:

Adding Licensed Killers to the Tomes seems like a natural choice, especially from a License Holders perspective: Completionists may want to buy the Killer so they can complete the tome, meaning likely more sales. Not to mention having a Killer in the tome will give that Killer more visibility.

BHVR will likely keep their promise that all tomes can be pathed through without needing to purchase any characters, to be frank they never said that you will be able to complete every challenge in the tome without purchasing characters, just that you can reach the end without purchasing characters.

BHVR will likely keep their promise that all tomes can be pathed through without needing to purchase any characters, to be frank they never said that you will be able to complete every challenge in the tome without purchasing characters, just that you can reach the end without purchasing characters.

The only problem I have with adding licensed characters is that tying challenges to them, even if you can ignore them by "moving around" them by doing other challenges, means that it will be more difficult to finish the battlepass. As progress there is gained largely from challenges, and if you can't do challenges because you do not have the characters then you will naturally miss out on a lot of progress. Even if you buy the licensed characters to do the challenges you will start out with no perks on them, which will make finishing challenges significantly more difficult.

The solution to that is to make the battlepass not expire once bought. This way, even if you don't have the specific licensed character yet, you can buy that character later and finish it at your own pace after you were able to level that character up enough to have decent perks so the challenges become easier to do.

Am I missing something, or should I no longer believe BHVR?

There is a lot of bullshit they pull but this is not one of those situations.

It's likely (a) license holder(s) gave permission since that post was made to have that a / some character(s) be eligible.

Back in June, @Peanits made a post regarding Legacy and why they chose not to restore it to players who rightfully earned it, stating that it would undermine the community that has been with them since 2016. Here is the quote:

"To award Legacy to the rest of the community would severely alienate and undermine that part of the community that has been with us since 2016.

We are all too aware that users who earned Legacy and suffered a loss of progress will be incredibly disappointed with this news. To those users: we offer our deepest apologies and hope you understand why this decision has been made."

Ironically, this stance directly undermines the hundreds of hours players like me put into the game. We aren't asking you to give Legacy to the rest of the community. You seem to have misunderstood what we are asking.

We are asking you to restore it to those that rightfully earned it and can prove it. Not only can I dig up my Steam Achievements which are clearly legitimate, I can also dig up a screenshot of my L3 Meg Head and my customer support emails from when I was compensated several million Bloodpoints.

For supposedly wanting to keep long time players around, BHVR simply isn't putting in the real effort to give back to the players that gave them hundreds of hours during a time where the game was a true grind fest. This is honestly the main reason I stopped playing this game. 4 years and BHVR still has no solution to this problem.

To everyone that lost their Legacy due to faulty save mechanics, know you aren't alone and that nothing is your fault. This is entirely on BHVR and their refusal to assist us properly.

May end up catching a ban for this, but honestly, it doesn't really matter. I've been around since Day 1 and it's a shame to see the lack of care gone into this issue.

This is entirely on BHVR and their refusal to assist us properly.

Okay, what I thought now may sound stupid, but hey. These stats were published to celebrate 1 year of the Archives, so what if these numbers of generators were the ones repaired while the "Repair x generators" challenge is active?

    @SnakeSound222 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1687803#Comment_1687803

That’s what I’m thinking. These stats are way too low to be from normal gameplay.

Or a LOT of Survivors are throwing games just to finish their challenges.

It could be that the repaired generators are only tracked for survivors who have a challenge active, while the escaped and survived survivor stats come from games where any player has a challenge active.

In that case every survivor would contribute to the dead or escaped statistic, but not necessarily to the number of generators repaired.

  • More fun stats!

2272978 generators were repaired with challenges active, source: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGdNiGpFUvv/ and this post confirming that the stats are only tracked with challenges active:

    @Rizzo said:

I want to specify that those numbers have been taken with active challenges only, I suggest to take them as they are without jumping to conclusions.

It's a way to celebrate the one year of the Archives, nothing more, nothing less.

25042 years were spent doing challenges, source: https://twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1317548449764691968

    Riddle time!

If you collect footage from players doing the challenges, and cut the footage so that it has the length of exactly 1 year, how many generators would you expect to see repaired in this footage?

We can get this by calculating the number of generators repaired per year.

Taking the values from above we get:

    2272978 generators / 25042 years.

This gives us a value of 90.77 generators per year.

So the answer is, if you cut footage of players doing challenges and made the video one year long and watched all of it, you would expect to see 91 generators repaired.

  • If we assume that exactly one generator was repaired per game we can find the minimum number of games where no generators were repaired. The real number is going to be bigger, because there are games where more than one generator was repaired.

We have 2272978 repaired generators across 14348351 games played, that means there were 12075373 games minimum where no generator was finished.

That is still insane, even if it was only with challenges active. That strongly suggests that the challenges have a massively negative effect on the match quality if you consider a match where no generator was finished to have a low quality.

  • @JacobD said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/198691/0-16-gens-done-on-average-per-match-new-stats-are-likely-wrong

None of those stat blocks really mean a whole lot without context behind them and without the criteria for counting them, cause this would mean that out of 10 games played in dbd only 1 and a half gen are done which just shouldn't be possible under normal criteria since anybody above rank 15 will know that at least 1 gen will likely pop before your second hook minimum.

If we knew that the stats were only from rank 20 games then I think the numbers would still be exceptionally low, but seem much more plausible.

One reason that the data seems to not make sense is that it could be that the individual stats are from different players, the number of generators repaired from games played on Switch and the number of escaped and killed survivors from PS4 for example. In that case the calculations would be obviously wrong as they would be based on completely different games.

With how the data is presented to us however it seems like that both the platform and timeframe of games analyzed are the same, and therefore the number of repaired generators is really that low, in those rounds that the stats are based on.

  • @Crythor said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1687399#Comment_1687399

0.16 gens repaired per match on average? BHVR´s stats are 100% screwed there is no way this is correct!

If the games only had rank 20 survivors I feel like this sounds reasonable. But we don't have any information about the ranks, or the platforms even, so it's not really possible to explain this number.

  • @xEa said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1687378#Comment_1687378

We know how many survivors escaped and how many were killed, so we know how many games got played. With that statistics, we know now how many generators per match got repaired on average.

Knowing that only 2 million gens in 14 million games got repaird, we can suspect, that those stats are not correct.

Adding numbers so it becomes easier to understand your post:

50627522 survivors died, 6765882 escaped. Total number of survivors is 57393404. This info comes from the first post on page 1.

Divide that by 4 (because there are always 4 survivors in a game) and you get the number of games: 14348351.

2272978 generators were repaired, source: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1687378#Comment_1687378

The number of generators repaired per game is ~0.16.

It should also be activated if your the obsession , that way multiple people can't use the perk in a swf.

I like this suggestion, it has this nice "flow" to it, where sometimes it helps the survivor and sometimes the killer. I feel like that was the original intention with the perk, survivor gets a big effect but it has a huge downside. The downside with the current version of the perk is not really relevant though, and that's the problem.

I argue that stream sniping can be considered a form of targeting specific users and thus violates this rule.

The game rules list streamsniping as specifically not reportable but to me it seems that if you do it repeatedly to (a) specific player(s) it violates the negative targeting rule. It is not clear (to me at least) which rule takes precedence: targeting players being reportable, or streamsniping not being reportable even if done excessively.

I have the same issue with other ranged killers. Clowns bottles often causing survivors to scream and cough, but then they just run off unaffected. Huntress hatchets causing blood particles upon collision, but THEN survivors dead harding.

I usually have a ping of 40-50ms, so I guess the developers have a system in place that punishes people with good connection? I dont even know anymore.

It's interesting that this does not seem to happen with regular attacks, e.g. you get the hit sound but the survivor does not actually take damage. Maybe this can happen, but personally I have never experienced this, and I am familiar with all the examples you listed, as well as the issues with Plague.

why is her vomit wither it be the corrupt or normal purge hitbox so bad? she was NOT like this after her release and for awhile after it. you can literally hit a survivor, they make the noise that they got hit but nothing actually happens.

for reference after her release you could charge up her power and do a full spin as fast as you could and if it hit the survivor regardless of the amount they got hit/affected. now a survivor can literally get hit for half a second and be fine. Plague is good because when she pressures players to cleanse and they do she gets the strongest projectile power in the game and up until then she is a normal M1 killer and survivors remain injured.

No one thinks she's strong enough to contend to killers like billy, nurse, spirit, or even hag(my personal top 4) so why has this not been addressed yet. As far as i know its been around since PH was released. this should get fixed as it not only takes away hits you could have gotten with corrupt purge but also just makes infecting people a pain throughout the whole match unless you land a stream of vomit on them for a solid second.

As for how i know it wasn't like this after her release i actually mained her and have played so many matches after getting her to p3 with all perks that i ran out of vile purge effectiveness addons which i had well over 80 of. her purge hitbox has diffidently gotten worse since i stopped playin her to the point where its blatantly obvious how bad it is at times. no one likes inconsistent things and the base power being like that is a problem that should be addressed.

you can literally hit a survivor, they make the noise that they got hit but nothing actually happens.

Actually it's even worse than this:

You can literally hit a survivor, they make the noise and they leave the green vomit clouds without actually being infected.

Don't expect a response though. Plague is on the blacklist of topics that the developers are not allowed to talk about. (redacted - see bottom of this post)

Tl;dr: Was the higher vomit angle an intentional test or a bug?

In patch 4.1.0 (Pyramid Head release) the vomit angle of Plague was changed to be higher.

This was reverted in the 4.2.0 patch:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/228-4-2-0-descend-beyond

Fixed an issue that caused the Plague's Vile Purge to arc higher than previously.

After playing with the old (lower) angle again I can see that the high angle is more useful in some situations, mostly at long ranges. It is more difficult to aim when survivors are very close and impossible to hit when you pin a survivor into a corner. With the low angle if you catch someone trying to hide in a corner you can hit them with your vomit freely and down them, without the survivor being able to go away.

A lot of Plague players didn't like the higher angle and I think it might have been a test and the change was reverted due to the negative reactions.

A compromise between the two angles would be to add a secondary power that allows you to switch between the two angles, see this thread: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/191417/give-plague-a-secondary-power-that-switches-between-low-and-high-vomit-angle#latest

Was the higher angle an actual bug or was this tried out to get feedback and see if the new, high angle is more popular but due to it not being popular this change was reverted?

Patch 4.1.0 changed the angle of the vomit. It arcs much higher than before. Is this intentional or a bug?

    @Almo @Peanits @not_Queen

The search function is still broken so if an answer to this already exists I can't properly search for it, if such a post exists please post a link.

No response. Possible answers: "No, this is a bug." or "Yes, this is intentional.". Very easy and quick to answer, but that did not happen, despite multiple attempts of getting an answer, also by users other than me but I don't have an easy way to find those threads / posts.

There was a response to a bug report that I originally missed:

The Plague's vomit shooting higher than usual is a bug and it's being worked on.

    Thanks for the patience. :)

It will probably be eventually removed (years from now) after they balance a lot of other things.

Wraith got a rework and it was not removed.

Wraith yes. Though I wonder is it meant to be an anti-camping tool.

Hag Nooooooooo. She would need her ability changed in order to justify this. Her camping ability is too strong already without a flashlight. I do agree it's terrible game design that a killer can be weak with perks/items (flashlight + urban) but really strong without.

Though I wonder is it meant to be an anti-camping tool.

Probably was intended to be this way originally, but obviously this doesn't work because you are not guaranteed to have / find a flashlight.

  • Legacy 1.0 will never come back.

Legacy 2.0, 3.0, ... and so on are the battlepass skins.

If you want to have skins that no one else can ever get, buy the battlepass.

I did say if they're being slugged for 30 seconds or more; if there's no timer on it, it would be annoying, but if they're left on the ground with no options, they should be able to opt to sacrifice themselves. I'm also all for killers being allowed to give up if that's their prerogative; it can be stressful and simply stopping chases will often just end up in BM rather than survivors finishing the objective.

I've actually made suggestions to this effect a long time ago, but it didn't go anywhere so it's whatever. But it is an actual solution that isn't punishing people who aren't having a good time.

    • play SWF
    • sabotage all hooks in an area of the map
    • run into a corner
    • when the killer downs you all and tries to hook you, but fails, run back to the corner of the corner of the map
    • alternative: killer drops you before you can wiggle out

After 30 seconds you all disconnect. The killer now gets a 40 minute ban (it would be 40 because of how it is worded, even if the intention is 10).

You now have no penalty and can immediately do the same thing in the next game.

Sometimes you are downed for some amount of time. That's part of the game. If you disagree then you have the option of simply not playing the game.

I finished all challenges last night and I am at level 61.

I wish that behaviour would look at the rift as something to bring more players in rather than just a money grab.

I am sure they make some money on the rift passes, but that would be minor compared to how much money they could make if the rift was player friendly and actually increased their player base by 25%.

I don't think the rift as it is now is something that entices anyone new to the game, just something for the existing player base.

    > I don't think the rift as it is now is something that entices anyone new to the game, just something for the existing player base.

It is actively hostile to new players. Legacy is something players still ask for often. Designing the battlepass in such a way that it creates new exclusives akin to legacy means the developers don't just not care about new players, they are intententionally screwing them over.

I'd be OK with that. How long is an average Tome open for? About 2 months, right?

So that's 60+ days, same amount of rituals, which would be the same amount of single bonus Frags in theory. That comes to about 6 tiers worth.

6 tiers would certainly help! Hell, if that's too much, just tie the bonus frag to rarer challenges like Mori'ing a survivor or escaping without being hooked.

Or bring back an old, abandoned concept: Community challenges. Last used for the year 1 anniversary.

One big challenge for survivors, one for killer. Progress is tracked globally for all players. If the community finishes a challenge, everyone gets X additional progress.

Charms are definitely there for filler. I like a few of them but at best, they're unremarkable.

At worst, they're actually a hindrance. Many a survivor has experienced a hooking based solely on their glowing charm standing out amongst their otherwise-camouflaged bodies 😂

Charms are definitely there for filler.

My favourite example, first release: The purple arcade cabinet.

The characters were Trapper and Claudette.

    • Why an arcade cabinet?
    • Why is it purple?
    • Why does it have absolutely no details?

It would have been easy to make it not look super awful, for example by adding a separate texture for the screen. Or adding some stickers / graffiti on the side of it. Or giving the buttons a different color.

But no. Big, purple blob. Done.
