For me personally, I think it’s getting immersed and knowing you’re powerful. At least in the movies lol.But really I feel like it might be that chase music along with the stalking, and the ability to scare a survivor into hitting their knees on the bottom of their desk. It makes you feel confident. Either way, he and pig are simply the most enjoyable killers for me. I can’t quite say why though.
I have to agree. Being new and testing out Killers, I like him the most. Part of it might be nostalgia. I grew-up on Myers and was 5-years-old in 1978 when we saw the original film. Plus, I just love playing one of the Halloween soundtracks through my Sonos speaker when playing him.
They did a great job on him. Even stalking and then moving in to strike is so Myers.

@Grimbergoth I have some fond memories of SWG, despite all the issue and later NGE crap. I belonged to a good guild for a little while. It fell apart in 2004 when a vast majority of them said "to Hell with it," and left for WoW at its launch.
I used to play multiple MMOs at once, but my all time favorite, was there from Beta until Sunset, was City of Heroes. I even got to know and work with some of the Devs, because some of them also worked in the Table-Top RPG industry. One of them owns Pinnacle Entertainment, which does the Savage Worlds RPG that I licensed for years and produced my own stuff for.
-
@Grimbergoth I've been a fiction author for over 25 years, and during my career have worked in television (Highlander: The Series in the 1990s) and spent 12 years in the table-top RPG industry. I've been involved in a few licenses over the years, and what you say is accurate.
Plus, that approval process can take a long time, sometimes, especially for changes after the fact. I know of quite a few licensed table-top RPGs that were gutted by the fan base simply due to the length of time it took to put something out, due to some licensors taking a while on the approval. Never mind those licensors that are extremely picky and guarding of their I.P. That's something you run into quite often on licenses for Star Trek, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones.
I can't speak for the holders of the Killers' I.P., but I imagine the holders for Myers (for example) are being quite guarding of it right now with the highly anticipated new film due out in a few weeks.

@Marvel said: The matchmaking seems fine to me. This game allows friends to play together no matter what rank they are and match you vs a somewhat skilld killer. I never had an issue with that tbh ^^
Well, looking at it from a newbie perspective, it seems a mite unbalanced with what I saw in the rank range between SWF. Granted, that could just be a perception, as I'm new at the game with very limited hands-on experience.
-
@Orion Yep. It's just like in any game. It comes down to muscle memory and where the individual is comfortable. Same with mouse sensitivity and all that jazz.
-
@Grimbergoth Yep, that's what I was realizing, too. I keep forgetting in my head (even though I know it) that bloodpoints are not bound to the character that earned them.
Now, I just gotta stop being a lazy #########. After two years in Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm, and already knowing those games, maps, and heroes inside and out, it is mentally difficult to go: Yeah, I'll jump into a game with a learning curve and be two years behind.
Makes me wish I'd bought DBD when it launched. I had intended to (I'd followed it pre-launch), but then ran into a bad financial situation right before due to a couple bad investments (we're good, now), and then it kind of fell off my radar due to life, until the recent Steam Summer Sale.
I actually didn't even buy Overwatch. I literally could not afford to spend on games in 2016 because of what happened. That was an early father's day gift out of the blue from my 23 (at the time) year-old son, since a bunch of friends and family were jumping into it at launch. To allay suspense: they all left it in 2017, and only the wife and I remained until a few weeks ago.
-
@Grimbergoth Good points. Thanks. Maybe I'll just do Survivor in the meantime if it comes to it. Bloodpoints are Bloodpoints. I can always put them into a Killer.

-
@Marvel said: same here but when I was around rank 18 (which is tooooo long ago) I got queues fairly quickly. I'm a little suprised you don't get queues :S
Me too. Not giving up yet, but if one thing will drive me away, it's that.
Something else I also saw watching Streams: There was a Rank 10 kiiller streaming. I liked him. He was entertaining. Edgar-something. At the end of the match, I see that he's facing Survivors that are Rank 1, 7, 13, and 19. I'm like: what the ######### is that? SWF should not screw the match-making that royally. Who programmed this? A fresh graduate from college?
Yeah, I really want to play against that crap as I rank up to the mid ranks.
-
@Zarathos said: Then change the game vs players who can direct each other whats close to being done or when a save is optimum or what direction the killers going. I have played from both perspectives and its unbelievably unbalanced.
Relaying information on killers position to others. Giving the location of hex totems to the team. Giving the killers perk layout on death. Guys killers got noed. Watch out guys devour hope. Haunted ground and ruin dont touch the totems.
You call us entitled despite the fact that you are feeding information no survivour should know telepatheticly giving the location of all key objectives and threats. You can talk fron your pedestal claiming its entitled but i dare you to face down 10 rank 1 swfs as trapper and tell me how much fun you had knowing all your traps will be disarmed and your position always being compromised.
Yeah, I was checking out random Streamers on Twitch for DBD tonight and saw two channels that I recall that were SWF teams. It was such bullshit to watch. They bullied the Killer, called out positions on everything, relayed Perk loadout when one of them died.
I mean, if that was my first time viewing DBD to see what it was about, I can assure you I would never have bought the game after seeing that SWF crap.
And these are Streamers with thousands of followers.
One that was a real douche and bullying the Killer because he was bored was some Streamer named Puppers. The other SWF relaying all sorts of crap (including Killer loadout) was StreamDad_

@Marvel said: yea you are right, I just didn't want to chase new players away xD
Nah, you're good. This Rank 20 Killer queue never giving me Survivors is gonna do that. And I know it isn't on my end, because if I flip to Survivor, it pops fairly quick. And I'm on PC.
-
@Grimbergoth I gotcha. Now, if only the ######### Rank 20 Killer queue would fill with some Survivors, that would be nice (PC). Kind'a hard to play and rank-up when you can't get a damned match. And this was during prime-time, even. Two nights now, I wait about 15 minutes and then just say to hell with it. Survivor is fairly quick to pop, but I prefer Killer.

It's totally fine if you start and you play mostly 2-4 characters, you get enough BP to get the important perks but as soon as you have all killers/survivors with unlocked perks things change and it takes a lot longer to get certain perks on killer or survivor X if you haven't played him/her that often.
Gotcha. Thanks.

@Might_Oakk , Yeah, on paper, or rather video, if the information he revealed is accurate, Behavior is just a bit screwed on that lawsuit. I wouldn't be surprised if it is eventually settled out of court and sealed.
As far as PUBG suing Epic over Fortnite, I wish them luck. But hey, if that works out, maybe Valve will sue Blizzard over the TF2 elements they took inspiration from for Overwatch. There no love lost between Valve and Blizzard to begin with.

It's a friggin endless sea, because one thread is never enough.
But you know what? At least these forums aren't spammed with posts demanding to know which Survivors or Killers are LGBT.

@MegaWaffle I saw something about SSS via google. The whole thing seems to be Asian gaming in origin.

Sorry its so hard to read these dang bottles and their itty-bitty writing.

On a serious note, though: Where can I go and see what these letter-tiers mean? I would like to understand what an "S tier" is, but I have no friggin clue. I see this in Overwatch and HoTS as well, and never really understood where that placed the characters.

As I said, I'm not really a Streaming viewer. Maybe it's an age thing, but I don't see video games as a spectator sport. Never have. Not even as a kid in the video arcade, having to watch the guy playing his game while you waited your turn to be next.
But, if I'm going to do this thing to see some tips and tricks for DBD, I'd rather follow the smaller guys. The big guys already have the game studios kissing their asses for them, they don't need my patronage. Plus, I made the mistake of giving AngryPub a try. Yeah, I'd rather be castrated than sit through that idiot again. Oh, and noob3. Christ, he's like the DBD version of xQc. Or was that Orchi? I forget.

@SenzuDuck said: Lol, rank one is easy to get to on both sides. I don't get why people think it's a measure of anything. Literally play the game for more than 20 hours on each side and you're guaranteed rank one.
I'm new here, and I'm hearing that a lot at the forums, Steam, and Reddit.
And it's making me reconsider the game. I stopped doing any kind of Ranked stuff about a year ago. It's why I moved to only playing Quick Play in Overwatch, HoTS, and Paladins. I really don't want to climb high up the ladder and deal with all the bullshit and toxicity. I just want to play a hide-and-seek horror game and have fun. But Behavior was asinine and didn't include a casual mode that also rewarded bloodpoints.
So, I hope that I can just play casually (I really don't care about grinding Meta-Perks and that stuff), and just hover somewhere around mid or so at some point. Otherwise, I'm going to have two choices: One, activiely de-pip, which I am loathe to do, or just stop playing DBD.

The problem I have with the whole a survivor should be 25% of a killer, is that it's far to generalized. Which Killer? Nurse? Because that will probably mean they're stronger than 25% against, say, Freddy or Leatherface. And how do you measure that power metric? Items? Add-ons? Perks? All of them? All of the possible combinations?
How do you measure that power metric versus individual player skill?
I'd love to see them on the balance team trying to figure all that out.
Instead, how about incremental steps to some Killer design points? Maybe make their power less add-on reliant. Perhaps tighten the Killer hitbox so looping isn't so annoying for people.
-
Just out of curiosity, I'm getting Killer queues on PC, at around 11:30pm at night, of around 3-4 minutes. Is this good? Is it normal? Not complaining, mind you, it's actually a faster queue than I get in a lot of other games that time of night.
However, I do notice that I get a lot of 3 or 4 man SWF teams at that time, too. They all load in at the same time, and in many instances they all chose the same survivor. I'm leery of these matches because, especially if we're all new Rank 20s, if they have voice comm than I am at a serious disadvantage.

I agree: It is now time for this thread to be locked. You go about in reply after reply telling people how rude they are for the slightest assumption or comment you don't like, and then turn around and do the exact same thing right above.

For me, I can't come back to Ow. I just, I can't and I'm not strong enough, sigh.
Don't worry. I lasted two matches. Just two, and the second one was a queuing debate to begin with.
Right now, I'm focusing on Killer on what little play-time I do have, but when I do Survivor for a spell I'll ping you via Steam.
-
@chococri said: Spent 60h in game. I had a lot of fun learning the basics, becoming a ninja and an annoying looper when needed. Got rank 9 but I dont feel like I'm playing competitives games at all. I just play to have fun and to learning about gameplay. I'm having fun and I don't feel like I need a few months to get good tho. Also, this afternoon I had a blast testing some builds with Myers (I gotta share them with you)
The point is you shouldn't be that worried. Spent like the 90% of the time as survivor and yet my level with Myers is 49 and I still have a ######### ton of add ons to test out. It doesn't take that much time to grind I think. Relax and take it easy!
Thank you. And I will definitely keep this post in mind.
I won't lie. Part of it is laziness. I have such limited play-time, that a part of me looks at learning this new game versus Overwatch where I already know so much inside and out, and tends to lean over there.
The flip-side is that I then queue into an Overwatch match (did so two nights ago) I am quickly reminded why I purchased DBD and its DLCs in the first place.
-
On second thought, forget this original reply. I'm staying. Having fun so far.
-
No clue yet. I am very new to the game with limited play time, so really haven't really been able to see how it balances out as far as Rank goes.
I love the idea of hunting victims as Myers and Freddy, but right now I'm also trying to get a feel if this is a game for me or not. And if it is, do I have the time to spend learning the ins and outs of a new game from scratch (especially when I've never played a hide-and-seek asymmetrical game before), or will I just end-up going back to Overwatch, where I already have 2+ years and a ton of game knowledge and experience.
So, we'll see how this plays out over the next month, and where my gaming motivation ends-up.
Right now, I am on the fence. I'm not sure I like how the Blloodpoints vs Perks/Add-on system is done for a PvP-style game. Right now, it smacks too much, to me, of an MMO PvP gear grind system before you stand a real chance of doing anything. I stopped playing MMOs last year (and stopped PvPing in them a few years ago), precisely for that reason. My initial impulse is that I prefer the systems used in Overwatch, Paladins, and HoTS, better, where there isn't anything to grind out like that, and it's more skill vs skill from the start.
-
I never heard of Gwent and had to look the damn thing up. But I have played both ranked and casual in Overwatch, Paladins, and Heroes of the Storm.
Now, what you say is true in regards to a casual or quick-play mode. However, consider this as well: I purchased Dead by Daylight to play at being a horror film killer or victim, be it a licensed Killer than brings up nostalgia from my childhood like Myers or Freddy, or Laurie as a survivor (I'm 45-years-old), or an interesting original Killer like Doctor or Clown, or Dwight as a Survivor (for some reason, I like the little nerd).
I gave-up playing Ranked mode and worrying about being competitive and climbing a ladder over a year ago. It's why since early to mid 2017, I only played casual modes in Overwatch, Paladins, and HoTS.
So, here in DBD, I'm playing just for fun. I don't care what the meta-perks are or all the meta tactics. Survivor or Killer, I'm just here to have a good time. I do not care about my rank in DBD. I do not care about climbing the rank ladder. Now, since there is not a casual mode, that means that as a survivor I might very well be a liability to my fellow survivors (when playing Survivor) who do care about it. Oh well. Not my problem that the only mode that offers Bloodpoints is the Ranked mode. I still won't be forced to worry about climbing a ladder.

They should do like other competitive games do for dc. Like overwatch if you dc in a competitive match you get a time ban. starts at 10 minutes and increases exponentially for each subsequent dc during that comp season.Yep. All the way up to an eventual ban for the entire season.
Of course, we're also talking a Blizzard player base size, too. How often does the DC thing happen in DBD, and does Behavior have the player base size to actually punish it like that? If it's a wide-spread issue, probably not.
-
@Snapshot said: I don't think you can generalize the use of 3rd pary software the way you did. That's why we need an explicit whitelist, and as long as Discord, etc. do not appear on this list, it is "use at your own risk" like the DBD support said, period.
I don't see how they would ever get away with banning for Discord. Discord doesn't go into the game files like a cheat hack/program does. Someone could also be playing DBD solo, while at the same time talking to friends via Discord that don't even own or play DBD. And they would be banned?
That means the anti-cheat program is reading a hell of a lot more on a PC than it's supposed to. Do you realize how many people would uninstall DBD at that point and review bomb the hell out of this game?
I don't even use Discord at all, but the minute the anti-cheat went that far, this game would be an uninstalled memory. Checking the specific game files while I play? Fine. Checking outside of those parameters? The developer, any developer, can kiss my ass.
-
@Nickenzie I agree with you that power needs to shift more in favor of the Killer. Absolutely no debate from me on that one.
But the devs need to be extremely careful in how far they shift it, or all the issues I mentioned will become a problem. Personally, I think a decent first step is to make Killer power not so add-on reliant. Take the shifts in small steps, parse the data, and keep going from there.
-
@Nickenzie I may be wrong, but reading this thread and replies, it seems like Survivors are too powerful at the higher (Red) Ranks. The problem is, if you make each Survivor one-quarter of a Killer and require heavy teamwork due to the higher ranks, you run the very real risk of alienating the lower ranked players, which leads to frustration and them leaving the game since there are unlimited gaming options out there.
The Meta-Perks and Meta-Builds are going to play a lot differently at the High ranks than they do at the lower and average ranks (where a majority of the player base should hover). It doesn't matter the game. A Reinhardt, Tracer, Genji, Ana, et cetera in Overwatch plays a lot differently at Master and Grandmaster than they do in Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Plat. Blizzard balances around the High ranks because of the Pros in the Overwatch League. Matter of fact, they take more feedback from the OWL Pros than they should. And it has completely unbalanced the game for a majority of the player base. That is a Blizzard game. Blizzard, called the Disney of the video game industry by investors because they are so huge and untouchable. And yet, check this out: Just as school was ready to start and the natural school-year attrition was about to happen, they ran OW at 50% for two weeks. A week after that, they dropped it into the October $12/mo Humble Bundle subscription.
Overwatch, that Blizzard juggernaut, by all appearances is bleeding players. And the biggest stated reason is: Balancing around high-level play, unbalancing the game for the majority, and failure to listen.
Heavy teamwork games work at the High levels and the Pro levels. But for a majority, they lead to piss-poor matches, frustration, toxicity, and people finally leaving the game. Because low and mid tier players very rarely get actual matches where the teamwork happens.
On paper, the argument is always made that it'll balance out between those teams that don't work together and those that do. In reality, that is never the case. Not in OW, Paladins, HoTS, LoL, or any of those games.
In DBD, the issue is even more pronounced, because then those low to mid tier Survivor players just have more reason to go Killer, which doesn't rely on the teamwork issue. Which creates more issues for DBD lobbies. Because in all those other games, you simply need a straight 10-12 players to queue for a match. In DBD, you need 4x as many players queuing for Survivor than you have queuing for Killer.
-
@Nickenzie said: That's why I want built-in voice comms in Dead by Daylight. It solve your problem instantly because survivors will now be able to work together and have a fair chance to overwhelm the power role.
You really are missing points. Please read the entire replies
I already covered that. Here it is again, in an excerpt from my reply:
@Kilmeran said:
It simply falls apart. Even with Voice Chat in those other games (Overwatch and Paladins) it doesn't work because a majority of the time, random people don't want to talk and coordinate with random people. And then you get the toxicity of those who expect you to play their way, their tactics, and running the Perks (or hero for the role in those games) of their preference. Or all holy hell breaks loose in the match. Especially when a single bad teammate can cost you the entire match.Overwatch and Paladins have voice comm built in and it still doesn't work as far as coordinating random people into a cohesive team for the exact reason I pointed out: A majority still will not use the voice comm with other random people. It's already been shown and proven in those games. I know. I played them for a couple of years.
So, I'm still against the proposal. I've been there and done that with heavy teamwork reliant games, with integrated voice comm included, and it's the reason I'm here in Dead by Daylight instead of still playing Overwatch, Paladins, or Heroes of the Storm. Because: they, do not work out.
Teamwork heavy games have a whole new set of problems. You're simply trading one cluster of problems for another cluster.
The truth is, asymmetrical games will never have that balance. Evolve had issues. Deceit has issues. Deathgarden has issues. DBD has issues. They all have the same issues. Making them teamwork heavy just brings in the issues that all the other teamwork heavy games have when played by random people tossed into a team via a queue system (even with voice comm).
You should go check out those forums to get a better idea of how those player bases feel about the teamwork heavy components.

@Nickenzie said: I don't understand, I said in my thread that a survivor being as strong as the killer is not okay! What's the problem in that statement? Here's my quote from the thread and I'll highlight that a minor role being as strong as the power role is not how a asymmetrical game should work:
"Currently one survivor is as strong as the killer which goes against what a asymmetrical game is!" Why did I say "Which goes against what a asymmetrical horror game is"? That is because survivors are supposed to work together to overwhelm the killer, a single survivor (Minor Role) shouldn't be able to overwhelm the killer (Power Role) in a asymmetrical horror game. Did I clear up any confusion? @KilmeranBecause, again, you are focusing on something different than the point he replied to. It doesn't matter that you said: "Currently one survivor is as strong as the killer which goes against what a asymmetrical game is!" But that you even stated: "Currently one survivor is as strong as the killer . . . "
Period, that point right there is what he replied about. His reply meant that you are wrong and that currently one survivor is NOT as strong as the killer. He was replying that that assessment, period, was wrong about Dead by Daylight. It doesn't exist. No survivor is currently as strong as the killer.

Survivors need to work together to overwhelm the killer, that's called teamwork and that's how a survivor should be able to have a fair chance against a killer including nurse. When you see high nurse gameplay, you'll see survivors getting absolutely destroyed because survivors aren't used to working together which was how the game was designed. Survivors are so used to being as strong as the killer that when they face a nurse that requires them to work together, the survivor team falls apart because they aren't used to working together. The power role will overwhelm the minior roles because again, teamwork is necessary to overwhelm the power role. No teamwork, you'll lose. Period.
And now I'll reply to the actual topic at hand. I'll be blunt. Not no, but hell no.
Have you ever played a heavy teamwork reliant game? I have. I spent 2+ years in Overwatch since launch, and time in Paladins, as well. And let me tell you: Unless you have a stack of friends that can queue up with you and make a full-team, or you're an Esport team that regularly plays and practices together, a heavy teamwork game absolutely will not work once it includes a team of random players queuing on their own.
Especially when a single bad teammate can cost you the entire match.
What you propose always looks great on paper, but never plays out when random teams are involved.
