  • People need to stop blaming survivors for their problems. The more you tell yourself every single one is toxic the more you'll start to believe it. I've worked so hard to be amicable in game as a survivor only to be curb-stomped and mocked by the killer and teammates alike. Am I against the mechanic? No. Does it need some changes? Absolutely. I think most of us here agree with you on that front.

Staring at a screen waiting for someone to swallow their pride isn't fun for either side. An alternative that is fair for both and has a win condition that isn't determined by a waiting game would be amazing. Expecting to get a 4k/escape everytime is why we have such a large entitlement problem within the community, and many times the reason we have said standoffs. The opposing side isn't there to be an ego-booster to make you feel like you have the upper hand.

I understand your frustration, and I'm sure everyone here has gone through the same situation regardless of what side of the coin they're on. However, there's no need to feel angry, there's many things to be happy about in this game. The intense rounds that make it worthwhile and new content are always great to experience. I know if I start getting tilted, I take a break. I'm sure taking some time to clear your head and relax would do wonders for you.

  • Hands down Wraith and Meg for me. Wraith has become the Claudette of killers in my opinion. 90% of people who play him expect me to roll over and die, and have a horrid elitist mindset. They always have something to say in the end game chat, and will be so quick to label any tactics or abilities you use as "toxic". I've tried to stay humble, but it's gotten to the point where I groan everytime I hear the bell in the distance. I apologize to any wraith mains who are competent, but it's sorta tainted him for me.

I feel like it'd make sense to say Claudette for survivors and be done, but people really forget about how bad Megs can be. Sure, Claudettes can be obnoxious and nasty but Megs have a method to their madness. I get farmed by Meg more than anyone, and she usually ends up dropping all the pallets faster than the blink of an eye and sandbagging the hell out of her team.

I know there are toxic people who play everyone, since it's Dead By Daylight and it's inevitable. However, those are just my experiences.

  • Definitely Tapp and Ace. I see Claudette and Meg the most, but in the past few months I've seen a pretty large influx of Megs over Claudettes. Not sure why!

  • It was so much fun to play during Christmas. The design and atmosphere looked amazing!

generally speeking I have never seen a survivor dc unless the killer was being a dick, I know I personally have never had a survivor dc vs me in any of my games..so basically if someone dc's vs you, you were being an ass(using nurse auto qualifies you for this)

as for killers dc'ing that's normally due to frustration with the game due to the game being 1000 times harder on killer

I understand what you mean, but this has never been the case in any of my games. People do it for the pettiest reasons. Killer doesn't want to farm? DC. Someone gets outplayed? DC. Nurse teleports or people start screaming in doctors terror radius? DC.

It's part of why I made this thread. It's so accepted and widespread in the community that it can make games really hard to play, for killers and survivors. A survivor disconnecting is a handicap, and a loss of points for the killer. A killer disconnecting isn't as damaging, but it results in wasted offerings. That can get pretty annoying after awhile.

Are you referring to survivors DC'ing or killers DC'ing?
Anyway, there is an automated ban system for those who DC more than a certain % of their games.

Both, but more so survivors. Being 1 man short can really turn the tides.

  • Gen-tapping is the equivalent of watching paint dry to me. Spamming the same button over and over again to avoid ruin skill checks just doesn't seem worth it, especially considering how long it takes and how dull it is. I usually get it done much faster by bum-rushing it.

That's probably the best course of action to take during ruin since you can safely assume the rest of your team is running around like headless chickens trying to find the totem. As far as running up and tapping the gen to stop regression during a chase goes, it feels useless. The killer will just stop to kick it, creating a bigger setback.

The skill checks really aren't that big of a deal. Anyone can work through ruin. Gen-tapping, however, prolongs the repairs and does not do much. I would not worry too much about it. Heck, the survivors may even miss out on co-op points if they're repairing with someone else.

  • Good idea on paper, but I can't think of many scenarios where it'd be super useful. If I'm trying to get healed after being unhooked, having someone get autodidact tokens off of me would not be ideal. I'm trying to get healed as fast as I can so I can get back to generators and avoid getting one-shotted.

  • Laurie's voice actor is by far my favorite out of everyone. It's so shrill, and she sounds absolutely in pain/terrified! I've noticed with a lot of characters when they do their screams/grunts, they sound like they're smiling or trying not to laugh as they record them (Lookin' at you, Kate!).

Laurie, however, has screams that just send chills down my spine and her grunts of pain sound unflattering and distraught (How anyone would sound getting smacked with a machete and having to remain silent). I feel like people commonly make female voices in games sound soft and cute, but Laurie's is an exception. Her genuine voice was really refreshing, and apart of why I chose to main her alongside her personality in the movies and style. Too bad people see her as toxic!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeV-2o8ELJw

For instance, the scream at 0:12... Wow. THAT is a scream that belongs to a horror movie star.

I feel like it'd be a sin to not talk about the OG characters too. The actors they chose fit the characters to a T, honestly. Dwight sounds scared but determined, Claudette sounds timid and sweet, Jake sounds rugged and focused, and Meg sounds angsty and actually somewhat angry to me (I feel that fits her pretty well. I'd imagine she has somewhat of a rivalry with killers, and fights back).

When it comes to least favorite I totally agree with Feng. She sounds sorta wimpy, and not in a good way. It reminds me of a puppy begging for a treat, and it sorta throws me off lol. When I first heard it I was instantly reminded of an anime girl. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way!

  • This is the nicest I've seen people during an event, actually. Most killers let me finish flowers before killing me, and my teammates have been fairly cooperative. I've been here for multiple double bloodpoint events, the Summer BBQ Event, and even the Chinese New Year event. This is by far the best behaved the community has been in awhile, and that's saying something.

If you're disappointed with how your games are going or you've had really bad luck, sometimes it's best to just take a little DBD vacation. That usually helps me when I get shafted over and over in my rounds.

Maybe you don't want to take a break yet. If that's the case, then by all means go as meta as you wish. Decisive Strike/Sprint Burst/Etc. I find I usually don't need, but if everyone's bringing their A game and going hard then sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. As long as you're not bullying people or being an asshat, then adapt to whatever playstyle rewards you the most.

  • It bothers me too when we have a genuinely good game where both sides play well and people have to rub in their victory at the exit gates. I just leave, but I obviously cannot speak for all survivors. I always make sure to have my profile on private because of how sweaty people can get when they can't take an L. I'd suggest doing something similar of that nature. Also, if you play on PC you can hide the chat. Just press the arrows next to the text box, and it should collapse it. Don't let the bad behavior get to you, I promise decent folks still play this!

  • I don't hate it as much as I'd like to have an option to choose what music we get to listen to as we get chased. I don't even care if it's paid DLC, having a halloween chase music pack would be legendary! This also goes for main menu, lobby, etc.

  • 95% of my games are alone, and I still have fun for the most part. I think my biggest issue is getting hook farmed, or waiting to be rescued after I entered phase two because someone is looping the killer right next to me. It can be frustrating, but I've sorta accepted that I'll have great games and terrible games.

Being solo doesn't always dictate my playthrough experience. Even if I go in with a 4 man SWF with the best items and coordination possible, the killer could easily choose to be a bitter sister and ruin the game for everyone. I understand your frustration, but I promise you'll eventually have suspenseful games and clutch escapes that make it all worthwhile. Bad games will always be a thing. It's just a matter of learning how to take your losses with grace.

  • It sounded like hot garbage when it first came out, but... I stand corrected. Just got Kate to prestige 3 and somehow Pharmacy got to level 3 in that process. Decided this was a good opportunity to put it to the test. I'm pleasantly surprised! Not only does it double as self care, but you get free green medkits that slowly accumulate overtime. I hoard most of my items because I'm always afraid of losing them, but pharmacy has made me feel a little bit better about bringing a medkit.

  • Obviously it has never been confirmed that a certain survivor is LGBTQ, but we are given very little backstory on each one and how they ended up in the world of the entity. In many ways, this allows you to make your own assumptions in regards to their orientation. We don't know much about their day to day life (With the exception of licensed characters of course), meaning it's all up in the air.
If they choose to make a character that has a certain preference in a partner, I would just hope that they don't make it the sole focus that they build their backstory off of. There's many more interesting things about a person than just their sexual preference!

    *EDIT: Made a typo.

  • I actually really like playing against most high tier killers such as Nurse and Hillbilly. The Spirit, Myers, and Pig really spice things up gameplay wise, and always keep me on my toes. My least favorite to play against would be Trapper and Hag just because I hate jumpscares and their traps are ridiculously loud. Also, is it just me or do Wraiths and Leatherfaces have awful attitudes? The ones I play against always have something negative to say in the end game chat.

  • "This change is dumb and will backfire harder than Clintons 2016 election campaign."

2000 IQ Meg yanking me off the hook right infront of billy-boi is never a fun experience. If anything, the killer is saving me from an unavoidable sand-bagging by standing there and not letting it fly. It sounds crazy, but I actually like it. I would prefer for killers to not be punished for that behavior.

  • When I first started playing I thought that the 75% ringing noise on exit gates was universally heard. It was news to me when I learned otherwise! It would make sense to add that.

  • Honestly I hope they don't let the review bombs get to them when it comes around. I've noticed the survivors who have been super vocal about the DS nerf typically are legacy players, streamers, or have well over 1k hours. Sometimes a nasty hybrid of all three. These are people who have been with this game since the start, and it's shocking to me how quickly they'd turn on a game that they'd been loyal to for so long over trivial stuff.

I play survivor 90% of the time and every single person I have on my team uses the same perks (including decisive). If decisive is changed up, people can learn to play the game in a new format or utilize other perks that are more complicated to use but rewarding (Diversion, small game, etc). Currently if it's paired with an exhaustion perk, it can be disgustingly strong and the difference between life and death.

  • Love me some Marina and the Diamonds while I'm spending blood points! Don't think I could play it in game, though. Regardless of whether I'm a killer or survivor I need to listen. Michael's asthma attacks have saved me more than once from getting pulled off a generator.

  • Kindred for the win. I was hooked in the basement and was wondering why no one was saving me, and found out in the end game chat that the Wraith was blocking the stairs while cloaked. I'm not a fan of camping so I attempt to punish it in any way I can. Just from that one perk slot, I was the only person that had to die that game while my team gen rushed. Seriously needs more love!

@Jack11803 @Beverly While your reasons make sense in a gameplay sense the marketing seems lost. Why did you two buy Dead by Daylight in the first place? The game was intended to be a horror game but it would seem that almost nobody plays it like that now. What keeps you playing Dead by Daylight if you're not here for the scares?

That's a good question. I never felt scared while playing, but the tension is insane. I still panic and get sweaty palms when playing because of the scenarios that are possible in a game like this. Trying to open the exit gate against a Billy/Nurse is completely nerve-wracking, and seeing NOED pop never gets old. Creates a sense of "Time to wrap things up!" I really love the rush in a life or death type of game. I may not feel horror, but I sure do feel tense!

  • It's impossible to do solo games without it, in my opinion. Plus, it's a meta perk without it being super blatantly toxic so it's not too bad. Also Jack said it first, finding someone to heal you is impossible at times.

  • "Who frequently get their Monster Energy snapbacks smacked of their heads by adults in real life"

Oh my god that was GOLDEN. I love it! Let's make it happen.

  • Meh, I've seen it used efficiently and I've seen it be useless. One killer I was in a game with slugged the obsession and followed them around until the final gen popped. Kinda a crappy thing to do, but it secured them a kill. Another time I was the rancor obsession, and I just played super immersed when the gates were powered and snuck out. I think it's fine the way it is.

  • That's... Really insightful.

  • I think he's a really cool and laid back guy! I understand why people may have been angry with him in the past, but we all make mistakes and I can tell he really cares for this game and wants it to go far. @Lowbei Welcome back!

  • I agree with Zarathos. Just the format of the game where survivors have the ability to humiliate and bully the killer and killers have the power to ruin a survivor's game. No one wants to be the person getting tunneled and earning no points in the process, or getting looped by a 4 man squadette team with flashlights and DS. I've had the displeasure of being both of those people, and it can be really discouraging.

You can't stop people from being cancer, but you yourself can help the community go in the right direction by being respectful and not doing what is often considered toxic. I've been called a byproduct of incest by a survivor and I was even told to slit my wrist by a killer. However, I don't let those things sway me. I make sure to say gg as much as I can and try to compliment other players. Letting someone know "Hey! That locker juke was amazing!" or "Wow! You're an amazing nurse player!" can really help spread the positivity.

  • I'd want to be Laurie. I really like the whole "Kind and humble but will fight to save herself and her friends" personality she has.

  • People suck. A motto I live by in the cold, harsh world of the entity.

  • I was playing on Rotten Fields (gg ez hiding) and I heard the terror radius so I went behind a wall of debris to hide. I still had zero idea where the killer was but the terror radius was going INSANE. All of the sudden, the red stain appears over me. I turn around, and find Billy-boi staring at me through a window the entire time. He then started head-banging at me, and took off. That entire match became a meme at that point, LOL.

  • I like being able to look around, actually. If I were in a horror movie situation and had to repair something, I'd be glancing over my shoulder like crazy! I don't think it gives much of an advantage since most gens block your view or are located behind walls, large rocks, or things of that nature.

  • I would love all of those maps to be honest. I just want them to be designed to make hiding more viable, which I'm sure is completely possible. Autohaven has barely any cover at all, while Coldwind has a bright yellow tint that makes hiding super complicated even for the darkest of P3 Claudettes.

  • Afraid I'm going to have to disagree, but I understand what you mean. Friday the 13th was a great example as to why I would never want mics in DBD. Aside from more trivial stuff like it messing with the immersion, well... People really suck. I already get enough death threats in the end game chat, and I'd rather not have to hear it during an entire game.

  • I main Laurie! I chose her because I really liked her character design and thought it was a bit more unique. Her perks? Ehhhh not so much lol.

Thank you! I'm currently on the coast of Georgia helping my family evacuate. Things have been crazy!

I’m on the coast of Georgia too! I live in Savannah! It’s nice to have at least someone around here that familiar of same state!

Woah!! No way! That's where I'm helping them right now! Makes me sad to see such a nasty storm coming our way. Poor Tybee Island is going to struggle with this!

  • Thank you! I'm currently on the coast of Georgia helping my family evacuate. Things have been crazy!

  • Begins playing Mr. Blue Sky

  • No bulli Lurrhie. She is best girl! How dare you!

Lol, okay I had my fun. Real talk. It sucks that people now see Laurie as a close runner up behind Claudette. She's been my main since the start, and it breaks my heart to see people playing her like toxic pricks. I can never join lobbies with her P3 clothes on or else I'm downright asking for it. I play her solely because I like her aesthetic. I promise not all Lauries are toxic!

  • Georgia, USA! Specifically, I grew up in Atlanta.

  • I've found a pretty good work around the current way the pallet works. When running away from a pallet, there's still somewhat of a suction feature that when letting go of shift and dropping pulls you back to drop it. You look like you're booking it at first, but will drop it as soon as they go through it. It takes some practice, but it's worked wonders for me so far. Just don't run too far away from the prompt!

Always make sure to be careful, though. Timing is everything, and the slightest delay can cause you to get smacked during the animation.

  • I hope they do change up how Decisive Strike works. I feel downright scummy using it. A good idea on paper, but now a perk that can be abused often in this current build. I'd like to use all perks in my perk builds without feeling like I'm doing something seriously wrong.

  • I think she's both beautiful and scary-looking. Dead by Daylight has always done an amazing job with it's female representation, and even has a good bit of diversity when it comes to ethnic backgrounds. Why a feminist would go crazy about this game is beyond me. Sure, the spirit leaves little to the imagination, but what about the Huntress? She's covered head to toe in all her outfits.

I think her outfit makes her demeanor much scarier, like after she was chopped up and thrown out of a window the remnants of a dress or outfit tattered and torn from her torment remains. To be perfectly honest, I've yet to see any sexualization of a female character in this game other than Kate's jiggle physics (A big chested woman alone isn't sexual at all since some women are naturally built that way, as long as it's not purposefully sexualized).

Like Master said earlier in the thread, are we just going to pretend shirtless David doesn't exist? In my eyes, this game has done great with character design.

  • - Laurie using her decisive as soon as she gets caught and getting downed 7 seconds later. (I promise not all Lauries use decisive pls no bulli Lurrhie)

    - Toxic wall-licking Claudettes with flashlights.

    - Chill as balls Jake who spends most of the game memeing.

    - 2000 IQ Meg who unhooks you right infront of the killer.

    - Gen-rushing Feng that is played by people with anime profile pics.

    - Farmer David.

    - Locker Dwight. Who could forget?

    - Smug Ace.

    - Sweet, innocent Kate who has no idea what's happening but is trying her best. (Quentin and Tapp fit under this category too tbh)

    - Immersed Nea.

  • As a survivor, my least favorite perk to go against is Iron Grasp. Especially paired with Agitation. It's pretty annoying to see your entire team bodyblocking under the hook and you just want to yell "I CAN'T MAKE IT OFF GUYS". Insidious annoys me as well since it's only ever used to troll.

As a killer, I really dislike Object of Obsession. Whenever people use it they do it to be an asshat and bully killers.

  • I think if many people report something it begins to show on their radar. One guy that was being a jerk and told me to go hang myself got banned in about a day. The thread he did this in was also pretty popular so I'm guessing that helped speed up the process a little. One of those classic "DOCTOR OP" ones.

  • Just some good ol' BMing. Some people like to ruin everyone else's experience, which is nothing new to DBD. I've had a game like that happen when a Leatherface chased me for 3 generators straight. Stood there and hit me until I was sacrificed. I don't purposefully get the killer's attention and loop him/her, but if you're trying to kill me you're going to have to work for it! ;)
