Oh, you're making it literally so weird, hahaha.
There's a certain kind of like... Out of Game attitude that some people who main killer (not ALL people who main killer, but some outliers that make it weird enough that it sticks in your head) get that isn't so much like, "toxic" in the traditional BM 'you body-blocked me in a corner' sense, but is extremely uncomfortable to play against or be associated with and is extremely detrimental to the overall community.
People, for example, who unironically call themselves wolves feels very much like the killer mains that tell you that they're going to murder your family for outplaying them, and both of those things are extremely uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, I run into that a ######### ton? And all of that is absolutely a toxic behavior that everyone weirdly just accepts and doesn't believe is strange at all.

I DO love inexperianced or “immersed” survivors! As Killer it allows me to role play much more. I’ve come across your particular scenario many times
So what I’ll do AS the Killer (depending on which one) I’ll slowly walk towards them (cloaked or uncloaked), or rev the chainsaw (more “for show” at first), or stand still if I’m Myers.Try to just have fun with inexperienced players- let yourself get scared. Trust me, it can be a thrill.
I'm rank 14 and I have like 150+hrs into the game & i still scream when I turn around and see a Myers standing still near me.
#########'s creepy, man.

Wolves do not concern themselves with the opinion of sheep. Learn it, live it, love it. Life as a killer become so much more fulfilling.You are not a wolf.
You are a dude playing a video game.
Don't be weird about it. That's where killer toxicity starts.

I had a friend who bought the game for me, and it was nice because we found a new multiplayer game to enjoy. We play a lot of games, so we tend to wear them out pretty quickly & constantly need new games to play together.

Are there still going to be a ton of teenagers playing it? If so, let's not up the graphic content.

Are you 12 years old by any chance?This is actually a possibility, now that I've read through the thread. Do we know if there's a lower age limit on these forums? Being a mature game, it may be something that the mods might need to consider adding.

I am fully aware of all the tricks surv try to use to disguise that that they are swf as well. After lots of hours profile looking i can spot a SWF group np now. Too many private profiles? Could just be that. But in this game its not. They are swf. Especially if three are private and the last has all the friends listed.I mean, steam profiles are private by default now, but alright.
Also, these posts are ridiculous/crazy. Go for a walk or something. Play a different game for a while.
Why should i? The only reason swf is even in the game is cos they bullied the dev's into putting it in. They are trying to bully the killer.
Think i am going to stick around with 4 flashlights? Would you?
Furthermore what i do with my time is my business. Not yours. So thanks for the suggestion that i get some fresh air. However, do not need it nor want it.
I came to play but with %80 of games starting with, at least, two swf, before i get into the game i want to make sure there is no 3 man SWF cruw trying to bully.
More and more i am seeing that crews are spending less time doing gens and more time trying to bully the killer which does not work most of the time. At least not with me. Very rarely do my survs all get out.
Why?
Prolly cos i spend far too much time trying to filter out the swf and multiple flashlights. If i see a flashlights its not to rescue themselves as has been proven time and time again, but to annoy the killer and stop pickups. They are not interested in doing gens. These are the people i am filtering.
My hardware, my bandwidth, my time. I decide who plays with me regardless of how many lobbies i leave - and i dodge a hell of a lot of lobbies to get games that I, that I, deem fair. Not what the devs deem fair. I make the rules. Not them.
Yeah, dude, I would play with people who brought in flashlights. Just like how when I play survivor, I don't disconnect when killers run Ruin, play the Hillbilly, are good as hell at the Nurse, or have NOED or plays like a jackass. Sometimes you just lose or rounds don't go your way. It's part of playing games.
However you are way too wrapped up in #########, and if you literally sit there and scrutinize lobbies with 'too many private profiles' and dodge them because you believe that they're trying to trick you into playing a round that you might lose, then you need to chill the hell out and play a game where you're not playing against real people.
Or just continue to brag about being a big whiny baby who can't take the cards that are dealt to them like everyone else can, I guess.

Also, since 2.0, ranking for the survivors is a lot easier than for killers, as always.As always ... ? Just before 2.0, when the emblem system first came out, it was very difficult to rank up as a survivor & killers were complaining about it because they couldn't fill lobbies?
-
People who try to escape or suicide on the hook at the start of the game, or ones who disconnect at the start of the game. Like cool... Thanks for dooming the rest of us to a crap game.
I've seen like level 12 people do this. Like ???
-
God, no. No first person for survivors. I already can't play killer very much because first person in DbD gives me really, really bad motion sickness.
I usually like first person, especially for horror, but there's just something off about DbD in first person that makes me really sick after a few minutes of playing, and I'm sure I'm not the only one with that issue.

@Zanfer said:
I already agree with you cause I myself play both roles well enough to know you need both sides to have a game. Your points are odd cause they are game mechanics, but if you don't use the game mechanics than why are they even in the game. Exploits are different, but I know you are talking about empathy towards human beings. This is a video game where you are expected to lose sometimes.Yeah, it's literally just the empathy angle that I want to get across. I used the exploit as an example because it's the most direct way to explain to someone why someone would be upset with them making it so that they literally can't play the game. Does that make sense?
-
@Zanfer said:
Use words. Ok so I "missed" your point. You were talking about people trapping the killer in a corner. Yeah it is a scummy thing and makes the killer not have fun like you said. There is a difference between exploiting the killers fun, while survivors complain on how a killer plays without exploits.Ignore everything else about the situation. I'm not talking about game mechanics, I'm talking about the human people that are playing the game.
You were talking about people trapping the killer in a corner. Yeah it is a scummy thing and makes the killer not have fun like you said
Every time you sit in front of someone on the hook, you're degrading the experience for an actual, human person.
Every time a purple flashlight SWF group blinds the killer over and over again, they're degrading the experience for a human person.
Every time someone catches the killer in an exploit, they're degrading the experience for a human person. Every time a killer follows someone around for the entire match and ignores players running between them, they're degrading the experience for a human person.That's my point. My point is that having an attitude of, "######### your fun, I do what I want to get mine" is ######### and unsportsmanlike.
My point was further that both sides do it, and it's ######### for both sides to have that attitude, and that literally everyone playing this game with that attitude needs to stop, take a breath, and remember that you aren't playing with AI and that you should work on your empathy skills & the way that you treat other people, especially if you want to have a community.
Or you (general you) can just be a dick and make choices that make people miserable and then wonder why people are miserable at you, and you can just continue to spiral into Miserable Dicktown until you find a new game to ruin for yourself & everyone who comes across you.
-
@Cetren said:
Name some that you hear in the aftergame chat frequently? Like, not in a way that they should or should not do this. Because most of the time when I hear killers complain it's not some made up rule but instead the state of the game or things within the game that could mechanically be changed, not some code of honor survivors are supposed to adhere to.Multiple people freak the hell out on me for doing simple things like dissembling their totems. It isn't, 'the game has bad totem placement' it's 'you ######### you took down my totems, I hope your family gets murdered.' Like, yeah, sorry? I searched for them & I took them down because that's part of the game.
People complain habitually about people using perks that they don't like, and say that they're personally scummy pieces of garbage for using perks. Or juking. Or being good at playing stealthy. etc etc etc. I very rarely see people in-game complain about the game mechanics and usually it's a direct attack & a suggestion that players are bad people for using tools given to them.
Hence why I say, both sides do it.
@Zanfer said:
still that example has no ground under it cause it is an exploit. He wasn't talking about exploits....
Y'all need a lesson in empathy, apparently.

@Cetren said:
I think the overarching issue is that survivors have rules concerning their enjoyment every game that don't necessarily fully encompass or account for the people on the other team that also want varying measures of success and satisfaction which cannot be achieved under the pre-established notion that certain stages are ruled out as unfair, despite them being the only objectively reasonable way to win a game.Yeah, that makes sense & I get that, because that's exactly what the other side is saying. Like, you can 100% flip that back on the OP:
- Killers have rules concerning their enjoyment that doesn't fully encompass or account for the people on the other team that also want varying measures of success and satisfaction that cannot be achieved, etc, etc, etc.
In other words:

@BombDiggaT said:
No, I don't know that feeling, because I don't give a ######### about amassing points. I care about killing survivors. Even so, if you take away the offering aspect your argument becomes nonexistent.So, you care about killing survivors because playing the game & completing objectives is fun to you, right?
Now think about what it'd be like if a survivor trapped you in Lery's corner or in a bugged pallet and everyone else kept playing the game & you weren't able to. You'd say that survivor was ruining your fun, because it keeps you from being able to participate.
Before you complain that trapping the killer is using an exploit: that's not what I'm saying. I'm giving you a walk-through on the concept of empathy.
-
@Tombstone218 said:
But like, they don't have to. It's not difficult to just not be an #########.You're 100% right about that, however, people aren't going to stop, unfortunately. A lot of the players of DbD are children, either literally or in terms of how mature they are/aren't.
You just need to learn to let it roll off your back, because you can't control those people, you can only control yourself & your behavior.

back on my old pc, which was drastically worse than my current one, if I tried to have visual settings up, the framerate would cause the skillcheck to buffer and really screw me up. do you have fps drops when playing? or just framerate issues as a whole?Not anything that I notice, usually. The entire game is usually fine, until I hit skill checks and then the speeds are just constantly inconsistent. It could be my PC? It's not really made for gaming.

[CIRCUS MUSIC INTENSIFIES]
I turned my menu music off because it was driving me insane after a while. It was like
'Ohhh, circus, I get it.'
'Okay, still circus music.'
'.. Okay, still circus music.'
'okay but seriously.'
'How do I turn this off.' -
Yeah, that was my concern too. But I definitely broke down & bought some anyway. But I only spent like $10, so it's not a big deal (for me) if things change.

I would argue that being camped or tunneled is just as demoralizing as being teabagged is. You still get the feeling of losing and having to think, "I suck so bad at this game, why do I bother playing?"
I know I went through a phase where I didn't have any kind of speed boosts on any of my characters, so every single round, I was the one who was the weakest link & i was tunneled to hell & I was Rank 20, so ofc I was camped too, and I didn't understand why I was so bad and everyone else could get the killer off their ass for longer than 5 seconds. and I wanted to practice running & juking but I couldn't, because I was constantly being immediately downed, tunneled, & camped.
Very frustrating, very demoralizing.
People who teabag are just being ridiculous and they don't actually hinder your ability to play the game like camping or tunneling does.

Thank you for the reassurance! I was a little worried when I googled it, but sometimes googling suspicious emails is like going to WebMD when you have a weird rash.

That would be pretty awesome. I definitely struggle between deciding if I want to use my prestige gear or if I want to buy store items, too.

@Peanits Just so you know, I got a warning from steam about this? I snagged it way back on the first day, about ten minutes after it went up, and I got this today:
"Dear Steam user,
This is an automated message generated by Steam account administration. It is being sent in response to a query made by a Steam user to discover all account names associated with this CD key."Is that normal? I'm glad I use steamguard, either way.

Give solo full SWF level comms. Then nerf both. The end.Tbh I don't like this solution because I don't want to have to talk to anyone in the game? It'd seriously up the toxicity and arguments, and plus, I'm an adult woman in my 20s, I don't really want to have to talk to teenage boys while playing. That's one of the reasons why I like dbd, I don't have to talk to my team unless I invite my bff.

As someone who has studied 3D modeling & done a little bit (very little) of research into game programming, mad props to you guys for making an awesome game! There's some bugs here and there and people are eager to point them out, but a multiplayer game with rotating interactive environments is a massive undertaking & is bound to have some issues.

Camping & getting hit while on the hook. Whenever someone stands there & hits me on the hook, I have to leave the game immediately after the game or I'll get sucked into arguing in the chat, & then I have to take a break and check my email or something, because it irks me that much and I'm worried that I'll carry my bad attitude from that game into the next one.
Also, people who unhook people RIGHT NEXT TO THE KILLER. Annoyingly you see that a lot from people who are between ranks 18 and 14, and I'm always like, 'YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER.'

True, true.
How about this:
Sometimes when I'm being chased and I know I'm on my last hook, I'll use bond to run toward my teammates to try to get them chased instead & then in the after chat I'll pretend like I didn't notice them there.
But they know. They knooooow.

Aren't insta-hatchets really rare as it is? Like, if you get into a game where a huntress has an insta-hachet, too bad so sad, you're probably going to lose that round, but it's not like you're encountering that every game or anything.
-
My first 50 hours in the game, my hands would shake. But then after another 100hrs in the game, I reached a point where I was trying to actively chase the killer to get them to chase me so I could get a daily ritual.
So yeah, you just get used to it. It's like sleeping in the dark as a kid: scary at first, but then eventually a night light is more annoying than useful.

It's not just survivors, you're just on the killer side so you don't see it live & in person. Try reading around forums and you'll see that both sides are equally rude.

Eh. This forum is new and moldable.The problem with both the steam forum and reddit is that mods never set a standard for acceptable behavior until it was too late.
What should happen is that we call each other out on unacceptable and hostile behavior. (E.g. Stuff like "You're a killer main so [BAD WORD] off", "You're an obnoxious twat", "All survivors are entitled trash".) The point is that we don't shame/attack people, regardless of the opinions they hold (to a reasonable extent), what they play, etc. There's a line between passionate and toxic, and the mods need to find and enforce it.
This forum could be the gold standard compared to the two, but we're not going to be any better by saying "well, we're not as bad so let's leave it."
This is true, also the fact that the mods here took away the downvote button in the name of positivity shows that they're probably watching & trying to work on the issue of member behavior on the forums.
But I will say I hope that they don't enforce positivity, because I've been on forums where that's the case, I've been a community moderator for 5 years on forums where that's the case, and it's a real pain in the ass and a stifling environment, and I say this even after acknowledging that people's ######### attitudes make it hard to like the game still.

The problem is not only the hook. Once the gates are open, the survivors block the killer, so het can´t down the injured survivor. Since they get a speed burst, they can easily take rounds at protecting the injured.There´s not really much the killer can do.
Yeah, damn those people working as a team in a 4 vs 1 game.
Hold on...
When the team sucks = "give me my free escape, because it´s not fair that i get punished because my team sucks"
When the team wins = "yeah we are supposed to work as a team, that´s why we win"Find the error.
It's funny that you bring that up, because my original reply to you was:
You think survivors should work as a team and should be held accountable as a team, and then you whine when they do. Is there literally any winning with you? Should all survivors just stand still & die for you?
