  • Maybe it is a generational thing, but I too have no desire to move to Reddit or Discord. And nobody in their right mind is going to the Steam forums for an honest discussion. Besides a few comments on Youtube or Steam every now and then, I will most likely just stop engaging.

  • What a shame.

I'm here precisely because I want to be. I'm not on Reddit or Discord because I don't want to be. This place isn't perfect, but I'll always prefer a good old fashioned forum to anywhere else.

  • I'm glad to see the debuffs to Calm Spirit finally being removed. I like the changes to Sole Survivor, reworking it's anti-social aspects and giving it a unique but niche effect on top. I would have liked more tweaks with this same level of creativity.

Overall, I'm underwhelmed. I really dislike the Self-Preservation nerf, and think it's completely unwarranted. I also dislike the WoO changes, but I can't deny that WoO is a massive crutch of mine, so my opinion isn't worth as much here. Road Life is still bad. Borrowed Time is worse than ever. A lot of the rest of the changes are simple tweaks that are welcome but hard to get excited about.

Teammates have gotten worse, and it feels like no one is choosing their class properly. For some reason, no one wants to play Scout, even though it's one of the most important and fun classes to play. A lot of people will pick Torchbearer instead despite it being difficult and almost useless in this mode.
Since Nemesis' zombies buff, it's been a pain to do the last two gens when two zombies are spawning close to almost every gen, while the killers are patrolling the area every few seconds.
I feel like the most miserable thing about this mode is that the chase isn't really interactable. When the killers group up, you get hit by one and then go down a moment later to the other. It feels like 2v1, and it's really frustrating.
The chase will always be the fun part of the game, once that's taken away, there's really no point in playing.

I disagree about chases, but everything else you said here is spot on. Assuming you have decent teammates (dare to dream), getting 2v1'd is a good thing because you can lead the killers to a dead portion of the map and give everyone else plenty of time to reset and push the last generators. I've seen many games won for the survivors because of this. Though I've personally been suffering noticeably less 2v1s this iteration.

I've played a ton of 2v8 this past week, as I always do. I'm still having a lot of fun, as I always do. But some of the games, especially over the weekend, really highlighted how dire the skill gap is getting.

I'm shocked that Scout seems to have been completely abandoned in this iteration. I was apprehensive about the new item changes because I assumed the free key would trigger a wave of people to play Scout just to be rats. That actually would have been better than what we have instead. I don't quite understand why, but practically no one is picking Scout anymore. I actively dodge lobbies with 0 Scouts in them and I think that means I'm dodging over half the lobbies I get. All while Scout is arguably the best class and the one that should ideally be maxed out at 4. I guess I'm part of that problem too since I've gone from occasionally playing Scout to pure Escapist lately, but it's hard to justify switching when in match after match, I do extremely well in chases as Escapist.

This is the part that's frustrating, and there's no humble way of saying this: I'm not just doing well as Escapist. I'm utterly embarrassing a lot of the killers I end up against. My chases have been better than ever. So many killers struggle mightily to land a single hit. With just one or two pallets, I can loop them for multiple minutes. I'm had more games than ever before with 0 hook states at end-game. I usually don't get 2v1'd until there's only a handful of teammates left. They either overcommit by themselves and sometimes lose the match because of it, or they just give up. But what happens when they give up on me? They find one of my teammates and get a down in under ten seconds. After seeing this so many times, I eventually realized the horrible truth. The reason I'm doing so well, the reason these killers respect the wrong pallets, the reason they fall for every fake, is that they don't need to play any better to catch anyone else in the lobby. The average 2v8 survivor is so terrible that the average killer doesn't know what to do against someone who's even remotely decent at looping. The truth is that I'm not very good at this game, and I should not be good enough to be this much better than all nine of the other players in the lobby. But considering that Torchbearer is a more popular class than Scout, it's clear how low the overall game sense of the 2v8 player base really is these days.

Thankfully, I've also had many matches where the killers were extremely good themselves, and I've had plenty of good teammates too. But I understand how other players might feel that the overall quality of matches is dropping a bit too much. My last match yesterday was pretty typical: I get chased a lot. I never get caught. At least two teammates I would swear were fresh installs, completely beyond help. Gates powered with 5 survivors still alive. Every other survivor downed and caged in the time it takes me to open a gate. I escape, killers get a 7K. It's hard to feel good about games like that even when you feel you did all you could to help.

  • Adrenaline, my beloved.

As a solo queue survivor, those rare but epic moments where Adrenaline came in at just the right time to save the day are some of my favorite DBD memories. But of course, coordinated SWFs were 'abusing' it, so it certainly had to be nerfed… so that only those highly coordinated teams could get away with running it at all.

  • I think you're seeing what you want to see.

Out of the survivor perks released since 2025, a grand total of one (1) was undeniably very strong, Conviction. If you want to stretch things, you can consider Do No Harm, Last Stand, ESP and even Five Moves Ahead as others worth mentioning, but even some of those are tough to call "strong" perks.

In the same space, killers have seen Turn Back the Clock, Phantom Fear, Forever Entwined all be considered strong enough to see regular use. Hardly seems like there's a bias, especially when there's been almost twice as many survivors versus killers released in that time span.

You might also re-examine how you're evaluating what a strong perk actually is, especially if you think Wide Open Throttle is the strong survivor perk of this latest set.

  • Whoa, you're getting 70% Onis? I'll trade you my 70% Weskers, and you can even have my 50% Nemesis for free.

  • @MoZo said:

until the killer queues go down to a reasonable level in 2v8, you should expect none of the survivor classes to get nerfed. the devs said it themselves that they’re at a point where survivor fun is top priority in 2v8 because of how long the killer queues are.

The devs never said that. Though it does say a lot about the DBD community that "we think about both roles" gets taken as " we only care about survivors' fun".

  • I got my 6th P100 (Haddie) after taking her from around ~70 and 15 more levels on other Survivors. Honestly, that's only 45-50 prestiges and not much better than I usually make during a run of 2v8. This event was a bit boring, honestly. I tried prioritizing the event queue since it usually had a slightly higher queue incentive, but the quality of games was so much lower that I eventually just stuck to the normal mode.

Genuine question; does anyone use rummage quirks (maybe outside of some silliness with ingenuity) seriously? I've only ever thrown them on for archives or chest quests.

I like using Residual Manifest with my Champion of Light build. Killers are less likely to run Lightborn if I don't start the game with a flashlight.

  • Grace does fit the theme better, though RE9 coming out so close to the vote probably made it seem less unique to a lot of people.

  • Thankfully the better killer design was the real winner.

As for the Survivor… Aurora? Really? I understand that all the names were pretty bad, but now the Sleeping Beauty/Disney princess jokes are never going to end.

  • @Royval said:

I really have enjoyed Dead Sands, Walking Dead map and Springtrap’s map.

I like Dead Sands too. I don't understand all the hostility towards it, honestly.

I would like to know why they have been excluded too as I've been tracking my matches and haven't seen them at all.

No miter is understandable but it is a big double standard if the logic is anti slugging is unfun for killer, so are plenty of killer perks that are still in but only one killer perk is banned?

I really hope other comment are right that its leftover from basekit anti slug testing but conviction is allowed and that would not explain nurses calling being out.

I think the cancelled run of CS was supposed to be early/mid July of last year and we got a longer Anniversary instead? Conviction wasn't out at that point, so that's yet another sign that all the banned perks are just holdovers from the iteration that got scrapped.

  • @PleaseRewind said:

Three? I only had the option to choose between two. Woman and a man. I voted for the guy but knowing the DBD community he won't stand a chance of getting the vote.

It's not your fault, the Grimoire UI is horrible. But there were four options for the Survivor. You had to scroll to see the other two. Of course the site doesn't tell you there are four options, the scroll bar is so thin that it bleeds into the background, and you don't need to and can't even scroll on the killer side of it. :)

The pretty young female might win off of the UI alone.

Cosmetics team might be getting overworked.

They, BHVR as a whole that is, won't get any sympathy from me on that front. They couldn't fit in recolors? Couldn't finish the Claudette cosmetic in time? Well, whose fault is that? Why did they allot only 10 weeks for the last Rift then? This end of the year rift is hanging around for nearly 4 months. They can't even claim that they had a deadline to stick to when the midchapter was moved nearly two months ago. If this Rift needed more time, they should have given it more time.

  • That's the 'buff' to Road Life? That's polishing a turd at best.

  • It really feels that was sometimes, doesn't it? This place is certainly an afterthought for BHVR these days. For example, it's bad enough they didn't bother making a notice about the Community Cosmetic vote in-game, but you'd think they'd at least post something on their official forums before making a YT post of all things.

  • I've heard some people say Oni is generally okay in 2v8, and that he's only a problem when paired with Legion. I think it's the other way around. After the nerfs, Legion is still Legion (i.e. annoying) but they aren't unfair anymore. I can't say the same for Oni, especially with how generous his turning and flicks are.

  • I haven't seen any of the maps that were added this time yet, but for some reason there was hardly any effort put into the three maps from the GF/Oni 2v8 and Torment Creek was one of those. Compare 2v8 Thompson House to Torment Creek and it's easy to notice how little got changed.

  • Well I think the forums are currently having a stroke, so I can't edit my last comment, but I was trying to add that, for the record, there's still seven survivors and six killers that have never gotten a Deep Rift slot. They have plenty of options to choose from if they did want to spread out the attention.

  • Unfortunately, by now I think it's clear that giving even distribution to Rift cosmetics, let alone Deep Rift spots, is just not something BHVR prioritizes.

It's nice to see the Hag and Elodie finally get some attention, even if Elodie's outfit is the most boring of the lot. And I don't even mind Mikaela being in this one since her last one was a while ago. But Felix is getting his third Deep Rift, when he got his second less than a year ago, and Thalita and Knight are getting their third when their second was just a few months ago!

    For the record,

  • At this point I'm not sure if I even care, but the fix yesterday didn't work for me either. I took the time to play the 'one more match' and completed a slate of daily quests in the process, but despite the banner being checked off in my Quests page, I do not have Nocturnal Petals in my banner inventory.

  • Neither the key nor the map changes are very good. In a lot of ways, both of them feel worse than before.

  • Same here. I think most people are unable to get a game right now.

  • It's horrible, a stupidly overtuned and restrictive bandaid for a problem that's always been a symptom of many separate issues.

I had a bizarre game yesterday where the killer got maybe 1 hook for the entire game. Right at the end the team started messing around and all three of them went down. So I pulled the killer away in case one of them had UB, and then left. The Killer proceeded to hook two of them, their first time on the hook. And all those two could do was flex on the hook, because there were still three survivors alive and that meant they weren't allowed to even try to kobe. Finally! An end to the scourge of survivors leaving the game "early", and by "early" I mean a full minute into EGC.

  • Around Tier 60, I think. I should be well into the 80s by now, but I had to deal with the bug where XP stopped granting rift progress for over a week and lost a lot of progress to that. Still hoping they redress that sooner or later.

  • Right now on live? Yes.

Going forward with the changes from the PTB? No.

  • I'm happy to hear this. I love the Japanese-inspired killers we do have, but after teasing an 'Asian folklore' killer it would have been crazy for them to reveal yet another Japanese one.

  • I don't really agree that Boons are a complete failure. I occasionally still run COH/Shadowstep boon builds, and when my solo queue teammates are actually smart enough to play into it, the payoff is really nice. Shadowstep in particular is quite underrated, and it sort of salvages some utility when I get teammates that refuse to heal. OTOH, the other ones are quite useless. I would love to see a lot more experimentation with the mechanic.

  • I'm 'in between' games right now, mostly just picking through random things on Game Pass. I did delay getting into this round of 2v8 for a couple of days though, because I wanted to finish up the absolute masterpiece that is Clair Obscur before I did.

yeah when this weeks quests came out, I decided to not so the 4 scourge hooks so I can farm some rift fragments. I wish I didn’t do the medic quest for 2 v 8 so I could play survivor but hindsights 20/20.

Either way this bug has significantly reduced how much I’ve played the game.

FWIW, I haven't done the 2v8 medic quest and I also have this issue, so even that might not have spared you.

  • Definitely the worst iteration so far, though I'm still having a lot fun. It's solved none of the problems from the RE version and then added some on top. And the older issues are worse than ever because at least previously herbs artificially worked around the biggest frustrations.

  • Since Blood Moon began I think I've seen close to every single killer. Multiple Twins, a couple of Hags and Houndmasters. I had to double-check the wiki to remind myself, but I don't recall seeing any Knights and maybe no Unknowns either. Actually, I remember now that I did go against a single Unknown at some point this week, but he dc'd without me ever interacting with him. I guess Knight is the only one I haven't seen at all, and honestly I'm more than okay with that.

  • The BP bonus goes up to +500%. Is that not big enough?

  • The whole point of Blood Moon is really just the massive bloodpoint bonuses. I don't mind if the only new gameplay this year is relatively minor, that's better than having horribly balanced new stuff instead.

  • It's kind of irrelevant as far as Badham since its variants were barely distinguishable to begin with, but a massive improvement otherwise. All the other ones were literally just worse versions of the defaults.

  • Wow, so the mandatory bot system that we saw on the PTB, that the BHVR shills said we were overreacting to and wouldn't work the same way in 2v8 does, in fact, work the exact same way? Wonderful.

"You were not clear on the fact that the game will not match more than 6 survivors together by default."

Not clear is an understatement. When people started to figure out that this might be the case, they essentially denied it by downplaying and suggesting it would be a rare occurrence that only "occasionally" happens when queues are slow. As if 2v8 queues have ever not been slow across the mode's entire existence.

Survivor queues are already getting long. Base kit Unbreakable isn't going to make that any better. It's a bad idea, point blank period. Any other opinion is wrong and it's not up for debate. This is just copium trying to get another free 2nd chance to make easy mode even easier.

Umm, I think you responded to the wrong person. Neither me nor the person I was responding to said anything about basekit unbreakable.

  • @crogers271 said:

Well I think limiting it to those two options is overly limiting.

First for me would be changing some killer perks, notably knockout. Slugging could still be a part of the game, but not an entire build you could make.

Then I would make faster bleedout, with conditions. Mainly there being multiple dead or also downed survivors, This is to speed up slugging for the 4k.

Then I'd probably increase the basekit crawl speed, maybe even make it so you could crawl and recover to a limited degree. That's a less necessary thing to look at.

If after all of that we still had issues, we could talk about more radical changes.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3882401#Comment_3882401

    Balance is an important discussion.

A more important discussion is having an enjoyable game. I don't mind losing, its part of games, but I don't want to feel like I'm watching paint dry as a video game.

Not that I think its a tradeoff, but hypothetically if it was, I would gladly accept a higher kill rate if it would significantly reduce how boring DbD is at points.

Sure, but faster bleedout doesn't lead to anything fun or enjoyable, it just ends a miserable game/situation faster. If you're looking to make a more enjoyable game, you'd want to do something that discourages unfun situations in the first place, and the OP is correctly pointing out that a faster bleedout does the opposite.

  • You're completely right. Faster bleedout would just turn slugging into an even more consistent, more desirable win con. For precisely this reason, I've always been amazed that it's such a highly-requested option by survivors. As easy as it is to criticize BHVR for how they do and don't balance the game, and as much as they deserve it, things like this do remind you that the community as a whole is also really terrible at understanding/fixing issues with the game.

  • Facts. It's like they just can't make a good Civ since they changed the map to hexes.

  • @crogers271 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/438103/uh-oh-bots-are-in-2v8-lobbies-now

Lol, two bots? As a default? Not even 'this is our last resort if our other improvements don't help' type of thing.

I suspect it will actually work, at least in the short term. Long term, it kind of makes the game and the mode look like a joke. The idea of having bots in the game as a default (and not an emergency replacement) really brings down the idea of a multiplayer game. Then we have the balance issues with how strong the bots are.

    An unfortunate development.

Who knows. 2v8 and RE are the two most popular things BHVR has ever done, so combining them is probably going to make for a successful event no matter what, sadly. People who actually care enough to check forums or news are a small minority of the player base.

That said, it would be hilarious if enough survivors hate the idea of playing with bots so much that it actually makes queue times worse. It'd take one out of four survivors deciding they won't play with bots for queue times to be just as bad. Any more than that and queues would be worse.

  • @Rudjohns said:

    Bots? No thanks

Gonna play only to get the rewards, if there is any

    This.

I loved 2v8 in both the first two iterations. By far one of the best things BHVR has ever done imo, and I played it nearly every day it was up both times. I have no intention of playing this time if the options are either find an 8-stack or play with bots. What a slap in the face to solo queue survivors.

Not enough killers in queue -> BHVR rebalances the entire game so killers can win most of their matches.

Not enough survivors in queue → BHVR: "play or be replaced by AI"

This should be funny, but it's so accurate that it's actually just frustrating.

  • Whoa, they finally added the Claudette and Felix skins from the really, really early rifts? Nice.

  • I don't think this is a common issue. Have you noticed problems with any other games? I had a similar issue a few years ago where I had to reinstall every single patch to update the game, except I would also randomly get booted mid-game when EAC suddenly detected I was missing one .pak file or another. Long story short, the DBD issues ended up being the first sign that my computer was dying. Hope that's not the case for you.

  • 20240703204614_1.jpg 20241115210850_1.jpg

Finished Meg during the last anniversary, and Lara just a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm working on my actual mains, Claudette and Dwight.

  • I agree that change has made things way more frustrating and I hope it gets reverted, but I'm curious why you think the problem is Survivor behavior or skill? What would you have a teammate who gets cut off going for a save do instead? Leave you in the cage? Getting rescued in front of the killer is better than not getting rescued at all, and I've been seeing a lot of survivors not get rescued at all because of this change.
