Horror-related is an understatement. In anticipation of the PTB, I went back to play the 2013 game again for a little bit. It's a horror game through and through, using anything but the most narrow and intentionally under-inclusive definition of horror. The setting, the plot, the entire feel of the game all take clear inspiration from the horror genre. And since DBD Lara is specifically taken from the 2013 game, she's a great fit.
-
At least on the fan side, there's nothing to really talk about. The amount of gatekeeping about TR not being 'horror' is eye roll-worthy, but at the end of the day it's just another skin with forgettable perks.

The DnD survivors do have voice lines though? I've heard Aestri talk and she hums the DBD theme too
No that's right, they do speak too. So actually with that in mind, voiced characters are the default now.
-
Sure, but voiced survivors are pretty much the default nowadays. The DND characters were the only survivors to NOT have voice acting since Vittorio, i.e. a year and a half.

If even a simple gg bothers you that much, then you might as well turn off chat since clearly nothing the other side can say won't trigger you. And if not, then you're just looking for any excuse to pop off yourself, in which case, you really don't need to justify yourself to us.
-
The sweatiest killers around + no MMR resulting in a lot of baby teammates = I'm sticking with regular queue for the first few days of this event, probably only going to bother with the event when the tome challenges require it. Most of these matches are just offensively dull. Even when the lack of MMR brings in a baby killer it's just a different kind of boring.
-
Eh, maybe, maybe not. But, frankly, it wasn't necessary for them to more than double Weave's coverage from PTB to live in the first place. At most, that might get reverted, but I'd still be surprised if they didn't wait a few months to do even that.
-
Well DS is insanely bugged right now, so I wouldn't recommend that. So bugged, in fact, that that might be part of the reason you're seeing more tunneling.
-
So my problem is this: Aren't elves typically smaller, more agile than humans in most fantasy media? Aestri is the biggest, bulkiest woman in the game.
It's so weird how BHVR keeps doing this kind of thing. Yes, you can have a medieval survivor… but we'll give him a bunch of modern-day clothes so he might as well be just like everyone else. Oh, you didn't like that? Fine, have a survivor from the future… he only gets bulky spacey clothing. You want an elf? You'll get pointy ears on a giant frame and you will like it. Who is making these decisions?
But hey, they started giving Vittorio medieval cosmetics eventually, and Gabriel is getting nicer stuff now. Maybe they'll do something about Aestri's body, although I tend to think that would be a lot of work for something so inconsequential.
-
Not every layoff is because John CEO wants to buy a 2nd yacht. Things happen, teams underperform, priorities change… it's all a necessary part of business, and it's not really fair to criticize this kind of thing just as a matter of course.
-
I sympathize with most of these, but having seen some discussions about the Jeff skin, it strikes me as a little bit silly. For one thing, did they even actually change his body in any way? Because it looks like the outfit just covers up the parts of his model that otherwise make him look fatter. And even if they did, it would fit the theme of the skin.
-
The previous lighting was fine as is. It was blindingly awful when it debuted, but they toned it down to a passable level a long time ago. If we're going to have brighter maps at all, old Borgo was one of the better ones. The lighting feels okay on the new map, but there's something off about it on Shattered Square, something other than "it's not red anymore". Can't quite put my finger on why that is, though.
-
I sort of feel the same way. For me, memorizing new killers is one thing. Even after so many years, while I don't always play DBD that much, I can usually keep up with PTBs and figure out how a new killer works once every three months. But I really can't keep up with all these reworks that completely change what the Survivor is supposed to do against a killer a la Sadako's condemned or Trickster's knife spread. Especially when they do an overhaul and then decide that wasn't good enough either, so even if you did adapt to the new change, you have to relearn it all over again, like with… Sadako and Trickster again, lol. It's really disengaging to have thousands of hours in a game and die because you simply don't know how something works anymore.
That said, the new patch adding the ability to see the description of what items do mid-match is a good step in the right direction. For example, you no longer have to see someone use an EMP before you know what it does.
-
Speaking as someone who has hated most of the killers that have been released starting from Knight onward, I don't agree. Vecna has counterplay that actually rewards the Survivor for understanding how his powers work and what they should to do against them, "counterplay" beyond 'leave loop' or 'hope the killer misses'. The loot item to counter Mage Hand is a massive help, but not mandatory imo. I've only had a little bit of time against him on live, but I don't feel the buffs have changed the equation too much for the Survivor side of things.
-
I agree, although personally I feel a bit conflicted because he already had a decent torso piece in the form of his ugly sweater. For me, he desperately needs better leg pieces. All of his pants options are more or less the same, and ugly. The new hoodie is definitely a step in the right direction though. I'm just not sure if it'll replace the sweater for me.
-
The only thing DBD truly did right was be released first.
It was as horribly managed early on as F13, had agonizingly terrible lobbies like TCM, and was horrifically unbalanced like LY or VHS. But there was no real competition for almost an entire year, so it suffered, bled players, worked on its problems long enough to rebound back to success. Most of these games never had much space to grow, let alone grow, die, and grow back.
I do agree that the simplicity of the game's core elements has gone a long way towards keeping DBD alive, but imo if you swap, for example, Last Year's release date with DBD's, DBD never would have made it.
-
I see Batteries Included often enough. The Alien haste perk also gets used quite a bit. They can't be that bad if killers keep using them.
-
I used to use it exclusively, but Crossplay Off is pretty much dead now. It was dying for a long time, but it got completely unviable about a year ago, meaning depending on the day, you might never get a full lobby or even ever be put into a lobby after hours of waiting.

Probably late to the survivor party, but Jeff Probst
Can't be. He hasn't had any clue what Survivor is supposed to be for years.
Lara would be fun, and would definitely make sense as a solo survivor, so would Sidney. With such a vague hint, it really could be anyone.

Billy is love. Billy is life.

Nea getting a second Deep Rift outfit two rifts in a row was certainly a choice. At least they did something special with Doc's being a set when giving him his second here too, but there are plenty of characters who barely have any rift cosmetics, let alone Deep Rifts. It's odd we have so many getting their second this quickly.
-
I'll be honest here… I really don't understand what's so awful about current SM. Been seeing a lot of them during this event, and people like this who automatically give up are the only consistent problem I have with her. Yeah, sometimes I've gotten a few, uh, 'interesting' people playing her, but beyond that… she's not that bad anymore, is she? Am I wrong? Out of the last six killers BHVR has cooked up, she's not even in the bottom half for me.

"so we're even now" is such a bad way of looking at the game.
People used a defensive perk offensively, it was nerfed for a good reason.
Actually, you're right.
Undoing a bad nerf nearly two years later isn't a net even, that's still two years of wrong. They need to make it up to us, let's make it a 7 second stun.
-
It also never needed the last nerf, so we're even now.

The survivor on hook isn't capable of being healed at the time it triggers. There never should have been an exception for the heal to be held until the survivor could be healed.
While the situation you are describing can be annoying to face, there are ways to counter that heal. Deep Wounds and Broken status effects will make the impact of Adrenaline much weaker.
"There never should have been an exception…"
Why not? Considering there was one for seven years, why not?

Dead Hard took a much harder nerf and people still use it, i don't think Adrenaline is going anywhere.
Dead Hard was a much stronger perk.
These changes are just terrible and exactly the kind of nonsense nerfs most of us were afraid of. Adrenaline already does nothing in so many games, now you can make it to the end game and still have it do nothing! Fantastic.
And Adrenaline not working off of hook once again is a nice slap in the face to solo queue more than anything. SWFs won't even blink. "Hey, wait to pop it, I'm going for the save…okay, now."
-
I would hope that the offerings will soon be converted into something else so that having hundreds isn't a complete waste. Leaving them around until next year's event (if it even happens) would be an odd choice.
-
Played about eight to ten yesterday. My first match happened to have a well-known streamer in it and was a genuine escape with 4 out, and then it was complete slaughter every single time after. I haven't played that much these last couple of months, so I'm not anything worth bragging about in chases these days, but I'm getting really tired of doing two full gens before a single other member of my team gets even halfway through another.
The only positive thing I can say is that I didn't have to deal with anyone trying to use the Invocation. Small victories.
-
So, I can't say I really care much about lore stuff these days, but...
If you see Sable's story as "We want to tell another story about a character connected to Mikaela," then sure, they could have easily just used Julian. But I don't think that's what Sable is supposed to be. I see it as "We want to tell a story about what happens after a survivor is taken.' Sable's story isn't really about Mikaela specifically so much as it is about finding about what happened to her. I saw one of those posts you're quoting when it was originally posted, and that OP had definitely missed that Julian was mentioned, though not by name, in Sable's lore. So, like I said, I don't follow lore too closely these days so I don't know if the fact that Julian was also missing was established at some point before Sable, but if it was, then it makes sense to use a new character.
Also, most other characters that serve the same role as Julian of encouraging someone to do things that get them taken by the Entity are secretly evil, so are we even sure Julian was ever supposed to be some regular person?
-
According to a reddit post by the devs, they are going to fix this later.
-
My pick would be the Swamp maps too. Grim Pantry is fun, even with its 4-gen clusters, and Pale Rose is pretty cool. Now that they're the last classic maps left standing, they're even more special.
-
Wow, that's actually really nice if you're going to complete the Rift. x2 is already really quick, x4 has got to easily be more than one level per full game.
Now, of course this happens after I already decided to skip this Rift. I think I've done a single challenge in the tome so far. RIP me.
-
Yeah, like everyone is saying, now that BPs aren't as hard to get it, killers tend to get annoyed when you do that now. Those few extra points just aren't as appreciated as they used to be.

No that far lmao, I meant this one, the 6.7.0 one, with the ambush buffs
Oh! That does make more sense. :P
Sadly though, I can see why it would be hard for to you find that as well, I'm not sure there was much of it. It's pretty hard to play any killer except the new one when a PTB launches, for one thing. Add that a lot of other killers besides Pig got changes too and I don't think many people got around to trying out the new ambush changes on her.
-
This was a long time ago so my memory isn't 100%, but as far as I recall there was no PTB to playtest the Pig. Pre-chapter PTBs only become a regular occurrence from Clown onwards, and Pig was released right before him. Up to that point, the PTBs only happened when the devs were genuinely trying to experiment with a specific change and fully intended to use the feedback to decide what they would do next.

What happens in your games?
Most of the matches are extremely one-sided. In the majority, the killer quickly gets momentum, and it's obvious the team will never come close to getting enough gens done. And even worse, when that doesn't happen, it's usually just the reverse; the killer struggles to get even a single hook for the entire game. Come to think of it, both of those are probably promoted by the return of the 4 slowdown meta, i.e., either the team does play hard enough to break the gen slowdown or they don't even come close, and if they do break it, maybe it was only because the killer was woefully outmatched from the start. Either way, matches where one side just gets stomped are boring even if you're the side winning imo.
-
Never been worse.
-
Why does the only "No" option also have to say current Freddy is fine? Everyone knows he's terrible as is.
I've noticed some major rose-colored glasses around old Freddy lately, even more than usual. OG Freddy was dumpstered for a reason and needs to stay that way.

Genuine question: Why on earth is everyone acting as though the Blindness only affects WoO?
When else does it matter, generally? It's not hard to keep track of the aura of most things through a 30 second block. The only time it's really effective is in a chase, and usually because of WoO. I have to agree with the killer mains on this one, anyone saying the Blindness part is OP must be relying way too hard on aura-reading. The other half of UW massively powercreeps the entire suite aura reveal/stealth perks on both sides... but Blindness is the problem? I don't see it. When this perk gets its deserved nerf, I'd actually hope the Blindness effect stays as is.
-
DBD's community isn't that toxic all things considered. Just really selfish, entitled and loves whining. But toxic? It's not hard to find worse. There have been a quite a few really ugly moments with this community, but those were just moments. In some places, those moments would just be business as usual.
-
This forum has never not been whiny. But on the contrary, lately I think it's been a bit nicer than the subreddit at least.
-
So are all these Billy haters in the room with us right now?
I think I've seen more threads pretending that survivors hate Billy now than actual hate for Billy at this point. The only frequent complaint I've come across is about the lack of cooldown for missing, which has been a problem for different killers again and again lately and shouldn't be a surprise.

Absolutely yes. This perk is fine by itself, but beyond broken when whole team equip it. ~30% of my games are teams who just ignore everything in the game except gens and it doesn't matter how much pressure you provide on them, because it's 4 Adrenalines. Literally just had another one an hour ago: one gen left, 3 bodyblocks, predrop -> 3 Adrens + 2 Hope, gg ez. The only more braindead gameplay in this game is Nurse with 4 aura perks on Midwich/Gideon.
I completely agree with a comment I read recently: if this perk had been released on PTB today, it would never have reached to live version. This is a fine and fair perk on its own, but it is not a 1v1 game, it's 1v4.
If a team is destroying a killer with a "braindead" playstyle that requires using only 2 or 3 perks the entire game, they're going to destroy the killer running four of them. What exactly changes if they just delete Adrenaline in your example? FTP/Buckle Up three times instead? Do gens instead of blocking, rescue the last person and 4 out anyway?
And if what if it's not four coordinated Survivors running the perk? This exact same argument of "Oh, the perk is fine normally but it's broken in SWF and I had miserable game to prove it!" is used again and again despite hyper-coordinated teams being a tiny fraction of the player base. Fact is, there's not a single halfway decent perk in the game that can't feel broken when four people who know what they're doing decide to use it effectively. That doesn't mean that said perk is broken. It's just easier to blame the perk than admit that the team that used it was good at the game.
Adrenaline is and always has been fine. Nerfing it in any way, beyond removing the nonsense Freddy effect, is just a bad call.
-
"I don't think you get to hear it nearly enough"
Yeah, I guess you don't, since it hasn't even been an hour since you praised them in the last thread on this same topic.
-
Adrenaline is literally the gold standard of perk design in this game. No good can come of this.
Devs, whatever you're planning... don't.
-
Nah, even if his perks don't end up being in the Shrine because of the next tome.

Got the games in a sale a few weeks ago. Haven’t played them yet and am kinda excited.
Dont know why it got so many ‚haters‘ that don’t even know anything about it? From everything I know about it, it’s a pretty good fit for DbD.. and getting a killer added later would also be a good precedent. (Though I think L4D will still not be considered to get new content because no monetary gains, right?)
IDK, as someone not excited for the update because I have only basic familiarity with the IP: It's hard to get excited about any survivor anymore, for starters. Without interesting perks, the character's appeal is the entire selling point, and so with a licensed survivor, especially one with releasing without a killer, there's an expectation that the character sells themselves. But when the character is from a lesser-known IP like AW, for a lot of people it doesn't quite do that. This is certainly the least notorious IP we've ever gotten a full character from.
If they do end up adding a killer from the franchise I doubt it would be nearly as contentious, which isn't to say that the backlash to AW was that bad in the first place.
-
It's always got to be give-and-take when it comes to Blight, huh? "Nerf" his insanely OP addons but replace some of them with even more broken ones, nerf those, but re-buff something that was actually nerfed before. We know who the favorite child is here, sorry Onryo!
-
If Alan Wake can get in , I don't see why either of those two IPs should be off the table.
-
As a survivor, running against him feels very frustrating owing to the interaction between his size and his red stain. Being so small, he's obviously very hard to see, which is fine by itself, but the difficulty in knowing what direction he's moving at loops until it's too late takes a lot of the interaction out of your hands. His stain in general feels really unreliable compared to other killers. This is very noticeable when using Dead Hard, where I have to remind myself to use it far earlier than for all other killers because, dashing or not, by the time Chucky's stain appears it's already too late.
