Extra 20% on gen kicks is insane, no wonder gen regression is getting some sweeping nerfs. You don't even need it anymore for the most part, that's nuts.
Though, I do feel this may make Eruption in particular just not worth it anymore. The numbers obviously still work out, but it just kinda isn't interesting or unique anymore. My gut tells me it may need more adjustments.
It's only on fresh hooks, gets cancelled by a pallet break or hit and it's 20% of current progression, not a flat 20%. So you're reading too much into it. By the time you have 4 fresh hooks you're probably already looking at 1 to 2 gens remaining

People spent much more BP now than back in the days. People are higher prestige / levels, the game is over 9 years old. So more items are in the game. Plus people are more competitive now than back then, and see the value of bringing items.

Maybe because it is not your own? Gone are the days of running a killer for 5 gens and escaping. (3 get out without ever seeing the killer) If you have bad teammates or get into matches where someone DCs, that becomes outside your control and skill. That is why we see higher escape rates with SWFs. Playing with three other survivors that you know and they know you really helps when it comes to working together and escaping.
Because by playing Killer you only rely on yourself and when playing Survivor you rely on your 3 teammates. 4 of yourself on comms would easily get 80% escape rate.
-
You're also falling for the killrate thing. Most killers are hovering around 60% killrate, which can mean anything from 8 draws and 2 wins or 6 wins and 4 losses. Killrate doesn't mean anything.

Tunneling is a low skill, high reward strategy. You can be a baby killer and still get decent results against experienced survivors doing it. So it always feels like a cheap, undeserved win, because it is. The kill rates are so high now on every single killer, that killers have nothing legitimate to complain about really, it's just nitpicking at this point. Sure, if they stopped tunneling and proxy camping and slugging, kill rates would decrease somewhat, however, they'd still win the majority of their matches playing honorably. The killers with inflated high MMR would lose a bit and go back to mid MMR where they should be. This idea that killers are forced to tunnel is nonsense.
The so-called "low tier" killers nowadays, are basically what used to be an S tier killer in 2016. The new S tier is really an S+++++++ tier killer. It's that easy. Killer mains nowadays are far more entitled than survivors. Survivors are complaining because they lose most of their matches as the stats are showing. Killers complain because their win streaks are broken by survivor teams that are better than them, in spite of winning most of their matches. Remember, all the meta perks that survivors bring is only the survivors' attempt to bring the average escape rate closer to 50%, and it still fails to accomplish this at the highest MMR with a 4 man SWF with comms. So killer mains have moved the goal posts very far over the years, such that they are basically gaslighting survivor mains when they say the game is survivor-sided.
Wraith is not weak in chase. He has very high mobility and can block vaults and pallets. Nor is Oni, who can easily 1 hit down at rapid speed with 180 flicks and then go slug everyone else quickly. Ghost Face can 1 hit down with stealth so he can down people quickly. Pig can use their stealth with perks to 1 hit down you and gets passive pressure with the head traps. Onryo can just abuse a build to get condemned stacks and 1 hit downs. If Onryo were "strong" in chase she would be unbeatable if the killer has any competence. She is very oppressive in the right hands as it is.
I repeat, killers do not need to tunnel to win. Most killer mains don't want to hear this, but it's a skill issue. However, the goal posts have moved so far that they feel entitled to 60%+ kill rates, which by definition, is not "balanced". But killer mains pretend that this unevenness is actually fairly balanced because it benefits their preferred role.
One last thing. While I have played both sides, it's just a myth that you need to play killer role to know that it is OP. The official kill rates and escape rates, plus experience playing survivor, plus watching killer and survivor main streamers, make it obvious that every single killer in the game wins most of their matches on average. Mechanically, even the "hardest" killers in Dead by Daylight are relatively easy to learn, but with a somewhat steeper learning curve than the others. However, the oppressiveness of a character like Nurse or Blight completely makes up for it.
Holy moly, this is such a dbd forums take 😂 You'd actually think we are on Reddit.
60% killrate could be 8 draws and 2 wins. Just keep that in mind. Kill rate doesn't mean anything.
-
If the Killer's objective gets changed maybe. As "tunneling" (as you call it) is the Killer's objective, to kill.
Just like survivors "rush" generators. They have to repair generators.

It actually does! The number starts blinking on the door.

The one thing that it has as a negative though is "takeaway" of possible builds that someone favors. Let's say you like to run full aura build on killer (floods, lethal, bbq, darkness) or full gen build (deja vu, bardic, scavenger, stake out). SO it would disable some perk combos which again, isn't as good path to go.
Sorry I don't understand what you mean by the takeaways. You could still run both builds you mentioned.
Edit: Ah I see, it was a reply to your own comment :p

They leave when they die, they don't tend to hang around.
But why don't they type gg before leaving? Your argument no longer works because of the endgame chat change where old chats are saved.
-
Because that's the gameplay loop. They no longer can give a killer a chainsaw or a knife and call it a day. Killer needs mobility for macro and chase power to combat loops.
-
Wait… I'm reading the other replies and no one seems to know that endgame chat got updated where earlier chats are saved. Guys, if you die you can type "gg" and everyone gets to see it later. Am I missing something?
-
@Brokenbones said:
A lot of the time when survivors lose they don't wait for the match to end they just insta leave
That's if they aren't the last to die anyway.
This argument no longer works. As with the new endgame chat change, earlier chats are saved. So they could say gg and go next?
-
The original argument was "the majority of survivors already left before they could say gg"
But now with the new endgame chat change where earlier chats are saved, I still never see ggs (other than from people who escape through Hatch, they usually gg)
-
OTR also doesn't activate after getting shouldered. Shoulder is in the mud
-
It's the same with "tunneling" and "camping".
People going for their objective in an efficient way is often viewed by their opponent as "not fun".
It's just the nature of PvP games, it is how it is. Just play how you want.

Should've been an accessibility setting. Or part of their colourblind mode.

In other words, just accept the loss beyond your control. That's not what you call fairness.
PvP should have some balance and there is none here.
You immediately losing if the killer is aiming for his objective by going for you says more about you than the game itself.

I mean, survivors are supposed to survive too, right? Tunneling denies all chances for the survivor.
Yes, and the Killer has to kill. You're playing a PvP game, people win and people lose. That's part of it.
-
@mecca said:

That's really like comparing apples to oranges. Survivors doing generators is the killer failing to do their job. A killer tunneling a survivor means that one survivor had no ability to play the game whereas the killer can still play the game.
Taking chase as Survivor is as much part of the game as a Killer defending their generators. Getting chased does not mean "you have no ability to play the game". Heck! You're in the midst of the action!
The Killer's objective is to KILL Survivors. The Survivor's objective is to escape. As long as you're doing this within the boundaries BHVR has put up, you shouldn't have to listen to what anyone has to say. And yes, including your opponents. Because the rules they put up are most likely there to make it easier for them, and more difficult for you.

Why would they stand still when they are supposed to chase survivors and defend gens?
They're supposed to kill, mecca. Killers are killers. Not Chasers or Defenders.

Makes no sense as tunneling means the killer has to chase, down and hook that same survivor multiple times. Makes no difference if it's the same survivor or any other survivor, the killer still has to do the same, chase, down, hook which demonstrates the same amount of skill. If killers were doing something that made chasing and downing easier then you might have a point but thats not the case.
If you want to talk about skill then where is the skill in doing gens (the main objective of a survivor)? Assuming 1 player can showcase their amazing looping skills to keep the killer occupied long enough for others to do gens... What skill are the 3 other survivors showing by sitting on a gen? None lol
Dbd is a simple game really, all it boils down to is can the killer kill faster than the survivors are doing gens or can the survivors do gens faster than the killers can kill. Survivors way of slowing the killers down is loop then for as long as possible, there are other ways but that's just 1 way. Killers way to slow survivors down is eliminate them 1 by 1 so less are working on gens. There are other tactics but that's just 1 way to do it. Whoever is faster usually wins. Efficiency from both sides usually means gen rushing v tunneling.
You hit the nail on its head with that explanation. I'm curious of you're gonna get a reply or just a simple downvote appreciation.

Tunneling is an exploit of game design, it takes no skill, denies agency from survivors. It's easy to do which is why so many killers do it.
That's like saying:
Gen rushing is an exploit of game design, it takes no skill, denies agency from killers. It's easy to do which is why so many survivors do it.
(You can't blame killers for doing their objective, killing survivors)
-
"Tunneling" is the killer doing his objective (killing survivors).
Do you want them to stand still?
-
First of all you can turn off crossplay, so there's that. And also, raging about Killers having such a "big advantage" because you can't hit skillchecks is an own goal.
-
Why would that be, Ricardo? Take a guess?
-
There's no real reward for hooking, it punishes you more (activating strong survivor perks and making pallet/flashlight saves possible). I guess they'd have to reward killers for hooking, as now it's sometimes not even worth it.
-
I prefer that over Pain Res, Grim, DMS, Noed every game tho.
I feel like DBD nowadays is more about the chases than actually hiding, so your aura being shown shouldn't be worrying you too much if you can hold a chase.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. Is this in reference to the bit about tunneling?
To this part you wrote "A game can easily become hopeless on the survivor side if one teammate makes a mistake or just isn't strong enough at looping and the killer decides to tunnel them out."
-
Don't drop it instantly then. Try to actually learn to play for stuns and chain pallets instead of running to your yellow aura'd Windows of Opportunity pallets and throw them with no counterplay
-
@smurf said:
I think that's just flawed game design. You're not wrong about an early sacrifice becoming hopeless fast. But the survivor players should always be able to go for surviving and not just give up.
My approach to that is that as a survivor, I'm always trying to make sure my teammates have a chance at hatch or a gate, very often being satisfied if a teammate escapes instead of me because I took aggro or unhooked in a crazy situation.
Having said that, I think the ability of survivors to get through their teammates' mistakes or a tunneling killer isn't strong enough. A game can easily become hopeless on the survivor side if one teammate makes a mistake or just isn't strong enough at looping and the killer decides to tunnel them out. And the whole team is just stuck in that situation for the rest of the game.
There's a solution for people not being good enough at looping.
-
- Unsafe pallets discourage looping or more in-depth strategic play
Super interesting take I feel? So you're saying safe pallets encourage looping or more in-depth strategic play?
-
@sizzlingmario4 said:
Meh, I think it's a non-issue. I've hit the regression limit occasionally with Eruption/Surge without actually 3-genning, but what I've noticed is that whenever it does happen, it's when I'm already in a winning position/about to win the game. If a false positive only occurs when you've won or are about to win then it's not really a big deal.
Also, the killer can still be holding a 3 gen while there are other generators left to do, that doesn't really make it any less of a problem.
Why would you not start the other gens first. I don't see how killers can 3-gen with 7 gens on the map
-
@buggybug said:
Well if all the maps was not the size of a dunkin donuts spawning 3 to 4 gens neck to neck that would have have been fine.
But killers new habit lately is immediate finding 3 4 gen spawns and proxy camping them, am shocked there is not a topic about this.
I never said to remove the mechanic. You might have misread my original post.
-
Event mode is too laggy for my liking. On normal mode it's fine.
-
@Gardhome said:
Agree, this mechanic is the most unfair buff for survivors
And I don't mean this post as a "oooh evil survivor players" post. I mean just healthy for the game. Yes, it forces an end to a stalemate situation. But shouldn't that mechanic only be active the moment such a scenario can occur?
-
@Lixadonna said:
Because Killer is the Power Role and Killers can grant mercy. It wouldn't make sense for Survivors to give themselves up and be the merciful one. Would you even accept a Survivor pity kill?
Also you get all those pity kills at the start of the match, not the end.
Killer the power role is quite the statement I feel. When played at the highest level the survivor side restrictions book has more pages than any dictionary
-
@Firellius said:
No. Stop making survivors use up all their perk slots to fix the game being broken.
This is quite funny if you swap roles and use this argument for generator defence perks.
-
Should be killswitched in my opinion. It's quite gamebreaking people are running around like headless chickens looking for items which don't exist.

Time to killswitch the map? Got me killed in 2 games now, was hoping for it to be a 1 time thing.

Oh since people can just make their acc look like someone elses acc and then record themselves cheating so BHVR does bann the wrong player, i'd recommend ANYONE to go and play Anon mode. I dont play with my acc name displayed no more i always use anon mode so some cheater does not use my name, i dont think thats gonna be a good idea to let them do that. And since BHVR does make it ultra hard to appeal such banns its better to not take the risk.
You don't get banned based on your username. Every Steam profile has an unique Steam64 ID which will always be attached to in-game reports. Don't know how you got to this conclusion or who told you this?
Reporting someone to get someone banned WILL ALWAYS(!) require an in-game report. BHVR developers will never blindly ban someone based on their username. Steam doesn't work with an unique username system so the way you think it works will never be possible. You can't just go to the Support Page and say "Hey, Jim_Tonic is cheating, here is a screenshot with his name".
You will always need an in-game report, which uses Steam64 ID's, not usernames.
-
Sounds like you bought the game, loaded into your first match of survivor and got pooped on by a baby Bubba.
You can't expect to be amazing the first time you play. Because if you have problems against this killer, I'm also expecting a post for Nurse, Blight, Spirit, Billy, Chucky, Plague, Oni, Wesker, Artist, Sadako, Vecna, Pyramid Head, Huntress, Xeno, Singularity, Hag, Skull Merchant, Pinhead, Twins, Deathslinger, Wraith, Doctor, Trickster, Dredge, Demo and Nemesis. Who are all stronger than Bubba.

@Brix said:
tbh i dont want em to hide profiles. I would love to see if x person has VAC bans so i can dodge potential hackers.
People with cheats just go anon mode or are off-platform. The 'control' you think you have being able to dodge cheaters is a placebo
-
Nope, both versions have the problem except 1 has it in main building, other one around a random filler. They both have invisible hitboxes spread around the map
