https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/470687/why-do-killers-slug-for-the-4k-so-much
I think a lot of this can be blamed on the basekit mori.
I mean a lot of killers will sweat the 4k no matter what, but the last kill giving a mori just incentivises them more.
I have to admit, I will absolutely slug to secure the kill on the toxic tea bagger super looper torch clicker who's been winding me up all match. But as a rule I'll give hatch to the slugged survivor afterwards (if they don't dc/bleed out and weren't also mad toxic)
My hot take is that the basekit mori was one of the worst changes to the overall vibe of the game in recent history. It was way better when they were a rare surprise and not a period at the end of the match that people feel entitled to. And there's more and more mini moris making things worse.
-
Wow no one saw that coming
-
I came to this game solely because of Wesker and for the first 6 months I viewed it as a pvp extension of Resident Evil. Eventually I started playing different killers and also found it hard to commit. I'd try but get bored or annoyed and play someone else, and regularly played 3 or 4 killers in a session. Then Henry came out and I've barely touched anyone else since. He just clicked with me like no one else has. I'm trying to p100 a couple other killers but I just can't seem to stay away from Henry for long.
When I finally decided to play survivor I chose Felix and he remains my most solid commitment with a 92% pick rate. So much so that I've probably dumped a second p100 worth of BP into him. I've gone through build phases with toolboxes, medkits, and keys and have run out of everything, as well as all my preferred offerings. I've recently had to start playing other survivors just because of how destitute Felix is and I'm not happy about it. I made him my main character and don't want to play anyone else, but he's too much of a BP drain.
-
There's a reason it went away. I wanted it to come back but with changes. A lantern was not it.

Ahh yes the classic "the killer gotta take the abuse, just suck it it up".
Nope, if the killer has to get BM'd when they lose then the survivors can get the same, dont like being slugged? Just Tab out and watch YouTube then.
There, matched energy for energy and everything is balanced once more.
How can you possibly think it's acceptable or healthy design to tell someone to tab out when your opponent has decided you aren't allowed to play anymore?
-
I agree that Springtrap is one of the more balanced and fun killers. I honestly don't know why they thought releasing an all in one killer who power creeps half the roster like Jason does was a good idea. I don't even know how you fix it. Even if you give things cooldowns or reductions he still has too much going on and, like you said, no real identity.

Exactly, the guy with the scruffy beard sorta gives me Bill Overbeck vibes. and the ginger would look fantastic as a priest archetype.
Aurora won cause old lady is a perfect horror trope that you don't see often.
Blue hair girl is giving nothing to me other than a blue haired Kate Denson.
All three of them were solid. They all fit the role too. But the young woman was so out of place. They really just had to throw in some generic hot girl cause who could fathom that option not being available?

yeah, the reason why a 3rd survivor who is slugged for a prolonged period of time will crawl so far is either to have a chance at hatch themselves or to rob the killer of a kill because it's the only thing they can do. it's just another case of "why won't survivors just let me kill them"
It is so insanely satisfying to slide down the hatch when slugged. That's another solution they could implement. If someone is on the ground when the second to last person dies then the hatch spawns within a certain radius.
But yeah excepting someone to just wait there like a good dog while you go do your thing is peak entilement. "Why won't they just let me kill them" indeed.

And they t-bag while giving the blood points 😭, sure ig
The second bit is not what I said and you kinda showing double standards that one side should never waste survivors precious time while they are wasting it by not leaving in a different match (when the whole team is safe and there's no need stay), I personally slug for the 4k when survivors were toxic or it's a bully squad or when I know roughly the last survivors position as I saw them there or something like that and sometimes I know exactly where it is like I had slugged someone but I saw the other guy really far so it was easy and quicker to just get the last survivor, believe it or not but survivors when slugged also waste their time even more as an example if I went to chase the last survivors and the other is slugged but they crawl away to a corner of the map and I kill the last one then I cannot find the slugged one to end the match and they are complaining about slugging after doing that.
It's not a double standard. The sides aren't equal. The killer has more control over the clock than survivors. If the killer slugs for the 4k they can wait until right before the bleedout, pick up, and let the person break free and keep dragging out the match. It's even worse when it's a bot. At the gates, the survivors can either leave when the killer hits them or die. There's also end game collapse.
I also never said anyone shouldn't waste anyone else's time. Time isn't my issue, it's behavior. The problem is people use some random person's actions in a match to act out in a different match. Survivors aren't a hive mind. When everyone is safe, I leave. I never linger. Doesn't stop killers from humping me or hitting me on hook because someone tbagged them once. I'd honestly rather people say "I don't care how other people feel or how much of their time I waste" than run with these goofy excuses.
And yeah you better believe if you slug me for the 4k I'm going to crawl away and try to bleedout, since bleedouts don't count as kills. And the only thing I have the power to do in that situation is rob you of your kill.
-
I didn't play it as killer. I can't be dealing with those random add-ons. I only played 23 matches of it on survivor. I didn't have the chill time a lot of people seemed to. My matches were as sweaty as ever. Funny enough, my 30-day ER for both Chaos Shuffle and standard are almost identical which I didn't expect.
Always nice to see friendly clips too. Best thing that happens in ths game.

2v8 is the only time you ever get to play with other killers, no other game mode will ever offer that so I do take it a bit more seriously than all other game modes aside the main game. Playing it with my friends or even randos is some of the most fun I had in DBD, and understand its limited nature. Clown is one of the few killers with a power potential for synergy that doesn't destroy the mode (like Legion), and it just not doing anything to another killer would be a huge missed opportunity.
And Escapist sucks for some killers. You'll waste good chunk of time from a Wraith, Ghostface or about half the killer roster if they try to focus a chase on you. And if they drop the chase, Escapist recovers silent rush stupidly fast.I feel confident that if there's a killer that people can find a busted combo with they will quickly do so. Out of my 10 most played killers only 2 are in 2v8, so I already feel super limited in the mode. I'd be happy just having my favorite killers be present. I'd hate to have one I like added and then removed.

I remember because they made the haste instant from the moment Clown threw the bottle, that's why he was braindead. Even at its peak, Clown would nowhere close to how Legion was in 2v8.
Killer synergy is something this mode desperately needs, I don't know why anyone would want Clown in this mode if he wasn't able to share his effects with the other killers like how Ghostface can. Double teaming already leads to quick down anyway, at the very least it would even help weaker killers move around the giant maps more easily.
Let's not forget Escapist and Medic still exist and can basically deny hits regardless, Escapist would just press E and ignore the hindered or avoid a haste hit. While those classes exist and remain like they are now, I don't see any problem at Clown being to buff other killers.I'd play him because I play him a bit anyway and most of my prefered killers are absent. Even when I duo killer I can't say we ever try to mesh our abilities. It ain't that serious. We're just playing the solo role together and that's fun enough. Killers are mostly buffed anyway.
I've never really found Escapist to be such a big issue, nor do I find it great to use myself. Most killers in 2v8 can catch up quick. It's more the comical amount of pallets that make it work. Clown would be another quick catcher uppper.

There are differences between good and bad nerfs, a character being strong on its own doesn't make any given idea that nerfs them a good one. There are plenty of good, reasonable ideas to nerf the character - no haste on orbs, take away the pallet break from wolf dash (and, as an aside, sliiiiiide that one right on over to pig pretty please), anticamp on hellfire - that wouldn't damage the basic functionality of their kit. Taking a crowbar to the back of wolf's legs isn't one of them.
anticamp on hellfire
This, and maybe a slightly larger cooldown on shape-shifting, is what he really needs. I'm baffled how we have some characters with good, functional anti-camp like Henry, then we have Draculas who run back to the hook and hold their Hellfire until the person's feet touch the floor.
The haste orbs are fine though

Haste clouds not affecting the other killer would be the most 'no fun allowed' type of change. That'd be like making the other killer not able to down someone from Ghostface's expose.
What would be the problem even be?I don't know if you remember when they made a tiny change to Clown's bottles and the community was in shambles. He quickly became one of the most braindead and hated killers in the game for a period. Haste and Hindered are powerful effects that walk a delicate line and the last thing we need is some CC figuring out what pairing would create another Legion/Oni situation. As it is getting hit with hindered and then double tapped would already be pretty unfun, so they'd have to be somewhat cautious with adding him, and that's probably why they haven't.

Clown is the one I really don't get why they haven't added. He's simple and doesn't even need much changed, just give him like two more bottles and make his haste clouds not affect the other killer.

"Always" is a strong word and I don't believe for a second that this happens to you on every match. No shot.
It happens very often when survivors are at the gates waiting for killer or when killer is going after them (survivors intentionally stay at gates until you injure them and t-bag while you haven't, so time wasting) and you might say that a killer "always" tunnels but it does as well happens often but not "always".
The thing where a survivor waits to safe the team and maybe heal is not the issue, like when a killer camps at the end game, survivors can stay at the gates and try to safe the teammate but after the safe then survivors often t-bag and don't leave immediately, meaning time wasting.
Some people stay there until you injure them to give you points. It's not always malicious, believe it or not.
But is "survivors waste my time tbagging so I'll waste their time slugging" supposed to be an excuse for slugging for the 4k?
-
The hatch has been heavily nerfed in killer favor, and many have stopped it from spawning entirely now. I don't know why the devs have allowed that to continue. There's a number of ways to stop it. They could give survivors manual bleedout speed-ups under certain circumstances, similar to letting go on hook. They could have hatch spawn if one of the last two people has been on the ground for more than 30s. They could make it so slugs can stand up under similar circumstances too. All things that would encourage a killer to hook instead. But for now, killers do it because they're allowed to, and because many feel entitled to a full team wipe if they win.
I have to say though, for me, there has been much less of this than there used to be. I had a match yesterday against a streaming killer who I got hatch against and I went and watched his footage after because I'd expected the slug and it didn't happen. He tunneled, talked a lot of crap, called my random teammates horrible at the game, talked about how great he himself was, said "easy" after downing a person who gave up, and then after all that he didn't care about the hatch at all. He actually just stood around and killed his zombies, saying "I just want the 3k, I'm not going to take the hatch from Felix." I was really surprised about how whatever he was about it after playing like that. You just never know how people are going to be.

yeah I mean there are certain play styles and even perk builds killers can employ that I basically just call "I don't actually want to play the game" builds. Things like hard tunneling with End Fury iri button + Julie's mixtape where the killer doesn't actually want to engage in chases, outplay and outsmart survivors. They just want to win without having to think or try. The closest you can really do on survivor to that is like stealth build Claudette in a corner all game
Yeah there really isn't a satisfying "I win" button on survivor. Even if you consider your own escape through a hatch a win the only satisfaction I get from that is stopping people who play like dicks from getting a 4k. Otherwise it's pretty empty. A close and even match is the most desirable outcome, but the most rare.

I'm in the same boat where, although I'm by far a survivor main, I've played a decent amount of killer and have been playing a lot of killer recently, but I still get frustrated on both sides. On killer side I get frustrated when every once in a while I run into a well coordinated team of survivors who all play really well and I spend the match feeling extremely weak, and on survivor I find myself frustrated from hard tunneling, slugging, camping, etc. While I like survivor's gameplay more, I also get frustrated a lot more. Especially when you play solo queue like I usually do, you feel an absolute lack of control over the game if the killer plays a certain way. I find that that feeling is much more frequent for me on the survivor side because 1. it only takes 1 person, not 4 people in a group and 2. I don't feel a lack of control against a 4 man SWF when they're not good at the game or playing casually because I can take advantage of their altruism.
My killer matches are regularly full of those kind of teams. I usually have at least one in a session where I can't touch anyone and I get two hooks. But even then, it's not like a survivor wipe, where you can see the match being a loss 30s in. On killer you can comeback. Survivor it's rare.
Especially when you play solo queue like I usually do, you feel an absolute lack of control over the game if the killer plays a certain way
Oh yeah, I sure get that. I played some solo last night. Went like this:
P100 Nurse and p100 Ghoul. It kept being like this so I switched to killer. And even though I get much, much angrier on killer I don't have to deal with the exasperating annoyance at killers who don't want to actually play, they just want to win immediately.
-
I play both evenly. Killer pretty much every night and survivor in long sessions in parties. I have plenty of perspective. I understand the frustrations on both sides. Doesn't stop me from being angry when playing either role. The game is just frustrating and a lot of people choose to play in a way that's unfun and shortchanges their opponents of a proper match. Overall I currently prefer killer for the reason you mentioned: control. I'm tired of being at the mercy of others, especially with how short the supply has been in my survivor matches.
-
Not often, no. Killer I get unreasonably angry; survivor I really only have fun when on comms, and even that is often still miserable if the matches are consistently terrible. Last time I really enjoyed myself was when Henry came out and I was having a lot of fun just landing vine hits even though I wasn't doing well. 900 Henry matches later and I'm doing better results-wise but the fun is gone.
-
I don't even understand why Blindness is even allowed. It's solely an anti-soloq status.

Vecna and Vecna. I'd love those two in 2v8. Especially Vecna. He'd be so cool just casting stuff on top of survivors. And Vecna has such a nice traversal ability as well. Maybe they could give Vecna some more ways to reveal survivors' positions since Vecna is known for always being aware of what's going on.
Man I do love Vecna…and VecnaI would also like this, but one Vecna might be harder than the other to implement.
-
There's a reason this mode went away. It's going to be full of killers who can bypass the whole point of it. They should either exclude certain killers or just disable KI and noise notifications from powers, like Doctor's.
-
Some older killers definitely need help with add-ons but 5th and 6th perks like Sheriff's Badge or Yamori's Mask shouldn't be the norm. They need to be changed..
-
I used to play Dredge and though I don't think it belongs down there with Twins I agree there are a lot of issues. On killer side, the locker spawns made me stop playing it entirely. Lerys and Badham are particularly bad. There are whole areas with no lockers. Last time I attempted to play it I loaded into Badham and immediately DCed, and I probably haven't DCed more than 10 times in my whole history with the game. I just couldn't deal with it again and I probably won't play Dredge until they do something about the pain points. On survivor side, Nightfall gives people headaches so that's not great.

Sure. If you don't waste time searching for them again later. Oh look, they all 4 got out. What it boils down to is this. The Survivor Rulebook nor in fact the Killer Rulebook have any meaning. As others have jokingly said, why is it that survivors are okay to 'genrush' but if a killer 'tunnels' to get at least one kill, they're the bad guy? OH wait, they ARE THE BAD GUY BECAUSE THEY ARE THE KILLER.
The survivors primary objective is to finish generators and escape. The Killer's primary objective is to stop the survivors from escaping and kill them. If you are going to make rules of how the killer has to do their primary objective to be "fair" then the same goes for survivors. No more genrushing, if you finish a generator before the killer has at least 2 hooks, stop and let them get those 2 hooks. It's only fair. 2 hooks per generator. Those are the new rules, and in return we promise not to tunnel. This is ignoring how the game works in the most basic way. The killer gets stronger as the game progresses. Even if the killer loses gens with no hooks they've likely destroyed resources. Less gens also means a narrowing area to patrol. Killers panicking and tunneling because they lost 3 gens during a chase is usually they're own fault for overcommiting but also not the end of the match.

Everything is potentially abusable by Nurse too, but killers can't have strong perks because they would be OP on her. Only difference is that there's at least a 2 man SWF in 50% of games, vs a 3% nurse pick rate. DBD is incredibly challenging to balance.
Where did these numbers come from?

Every time killer hits you with cross examination you just get elusive for 5 seconds + the speed from the injure and it's hard to track the survivor after that, I rely on listening to survivors a lot and that's one skillful part of killer like in chases listening to grunts of pain when there's tall walls so you can't see ethe survivor you can track them with sound while looping but cross examination just gave permanent elusive, the design is just flawed imo and it needs a full rework to be a good perk but not broken.
Every time killer hits you with cross examination you just get elusive for 5 seconds + the speed from the injure and it's hard to track the survivor after that
The thing where it worked if the killer was behind you was a bug but all you did here was describe Lucky Break. I used footsteps and breathing to track people with CE, as well as prediction. Already works well for me maining a prediction-based killer.

Tunneling just bring DS, works great even if they're not tunneling. Plus tunneling is a strategy not a perk, and is countered by perks.
Also, unhooking is required to not let your team die? So a perk tied to it gives you bonuses for doing a thing you are meant to do.
And cross was a problem if you want; I can link video compilations of me escaping chases with it.
Also look at Jason; his add-ons got gutted for no reason besides crying from survivors. I play 50/50 and can tell you he was easy to counter, take chase and avoid projectile and zoning every killer can do that but Jason can't?
I don't need help with tunneling. I do mostly fine on survivor in that regard, and I chew right through that garbage perk as killer. It's nothing to many A and S tier killers. Speaking of nerfed survivor perks though.
I'm not going to run across the map only for someone to get the unhook before me. But that's kind of irrelevant. The fact that you have to stop working on your gen and go perform an action makes it a nerf.
I could have just as well made little snippets of me maintaining chases and getting downs against it. I run Lucky Break on survivor which gets me out of a chase or two for free pretty much every match while also doubling as anti-tunnel. There are many perks that do this. The idea that a thing is maybe situationally useful and not straight trash warranting a nerf is the problem.
Gutted is wild. Some of his add-ons were buffed, and his anti-camp was greatly reduced. He's also got some insanely busted add-ons. He doesn't even need add-ons but they did what they did with Ghoul and gave him two extra perk slots. Badge is unacceptably free and strong. But you're asking about survivor nerfs and bringing up killers now.

The important point I do want to emphasize regarding The Slasher is that these stats only take into account his first 2 weeks in the game. During this time, players were still very much figuring out his counterplay, which likely had an impact on his kill rate. Rest assured, we're continuing to monitor his kill rate over time to see how this evolves.
Shouldn't that go both ways though? I started on Henry when he first came out—when survivors also didn't know the counterplay—and I had like a 50% KR for a little bit. I had to learn and practice to get it up to 70. This killer has a huge bag of tricks but instead of players losing some matches while they also figure out the kit, they just stomped, not to mention the DC exclusion probably makes it 5 points higher than what we see here. And if it's only the first two weeks than that's before Hex Jason really became the unstoppable norm.

I'm tempted to see how it looks on my end but I don't know what killer I'd feel safe playing with random add ons. But the matchmaking was certainly unpleasant on survivor, with all the sweaty, tunneling p100s.

Fog Vials didn't need to be gutted, I agree, but cross-examination allowed you to escape chases if you looped and you won the mind game. I would know I used it, although I guess that does count as a nerf; however, Fast Track was side grade because it's less abuseable in swfs and better in solo q.
Everything is potentially "abusable" in SWF. That's not really a reason to destroy everything. There are only so many high-performing 4mans out there. I'll never understand why it's called abusive when survivors optimize something but it's strategy when killers hard tunnel at 5 gens.
And it's really not a side grade even if that's what they called it. You used to just sit on a gen and get instantly rewarded for someone else getting hooked. You now have to get off your gen and perform an action to get the reward, which gives it the Deli problem of getting to the hook first to get value. I've seen almost no one run it since the rework. Even before the buff I did at least see it here and there. Now it's gone.
The fact that Cross Examination actually did something isn't a reason to nerf it. I didn't try it but I did play against it quite a bit and it was a non issue for me, even in indoor maps playing a 4.4.
-
There isn't aupoose to be separate matchmaking in events. It's still MMR based. But it always seems looser, probably because there's less people in it, or o make it go faster.
-
Be for real, Fast Track was a hard nerf. It's worse than it was before the rework. It was better off left alone. Cross Examination was the most recent so-called "broken" perk to be instanuked. The anti tunnel ptb was an extremely colossal waste of time and expectations, and the one thing that came of it is also being nerfed. Fog Vials were destroyed and weren't even impressive on launch, and are still pretty bad even after waiting many months for adjustments.

Out of interest, what feels different for you this time around?
Survivors should have better anti-tunnel in this mode because they can't bring perks to help and killers should either be able to choose add-ons, only have certain (non-meme) ones available, or they just shouldn't have them.
Getting an add-on that might completely change my killer is keeping me form playing it as killer and the cheese is keeping me from playing it as survivor.
-
The sound that Fast Track and Small Game make, and the visuals for Invocations and Potential Energy. Too bad almost all those things are useless. Doing glyphs is also really satisfying too. I wish they'd reincorporate them in new Quests or something.
I love the sound of World Breaker activating too, but only if I'm the killer. Funny how a sound can be stressful on one side and satisfying on the other.
-
The "skill" I was shown on my few survivor matches was hard tunneling A and S tier killers that knew no one would have any perks to protect them. If it shows anything it's that perks are the only thing stopping killers from going full cheese.

Unless BHVR provides API endpoints to pull this data this is literally all you can do, if BHVR isn't going to supply the data willingly then the only alternative is community provided data. Which as your point out, can absolutely be lied about….but what's the alternative, try not to collect any data at all because some poeple could lie? At that point why even have the forums, anyone can lie about anything here, what's the value in it if it cannot be absolutely proven?
The forums should be for discussion, not for data. It's a bunch of anon people and yes, many do lie, maniuplate the truth, or repeat talking points that aren't from their own experience. There are people here on their 5th+ account. I'd hope the forum has little influence. It's just a shouting pit of angry and obsessive people.
Bad data is worse than no data. What's the point of data that's from a tiny selection of dedicated players that don't represent the whole? And especially when it's as easy as just lying about it. I can scribble "I have a 100% KR" on a piece of construction paper with a crayon and hand it to you and it would be about as reliable as Nightlight becuase I can basically go there and do that right now if I want to.
And we do have data. We have our official personal stats, which are at least accurate for killers and survivors who don't abandon. My stats and the many stats I've seen people post don't mesh with Nightlight in a any way. As @crogers271 mentioned, many times when people go "but Nightlight" I ask if their stats match the ones they're citing and they stop responding. I've never seen anyone with a KR of around 40-50. That's probably impossible without throwing or being friendly all the time.

First match after posting this was a P100 Blight hard tunnelling on Toba as soon as the match started, so nevermind
I played just 4 Chaos Shuffle matches and they were mostly like this. Hard tunneling p100s. I didn't really need a reminder of why I hate this mode but i got it anyway.

Nah, four survivors that all know how to use their items is extremely strong. And either way that still does not change my argument. Either both sides should get to pick their main power or both sides should get total chaos. None of this special consideration nonsense.
Your item isn't your main power. It's literally optional. Killers can't not bring their abilities.

So… you don't understand how items work. Medkits are very impactful from a gameplay perspective and the same can be said for toolboxes if you are able to use them correctly. Like just say you want your side to be stronger and that you don't actually want to deal with random elements in the chaos game mode. You would look slightly less ridiculous than trying to justify yourself.
Items and killers are not even remotely close to one another. Plenty of survivors go into matches without items. You wouldnt be required to use a randomly assigned item. You can just put it down.
Killers are all totally different. There are killers I have zero idea how they work. Getting a killer that does a zillion things like Vecna would be impossible. You'd spend the whole match trying to figure out the killer. This would be the most survivor-sided mode that ever existed. I would never queue to play killer in that.

I'm not a fan. On survivor it always feels like I get God awful perks. Last time it kept giving me Red Herring over and over. I would do killer but the addition of add-ons has turned me off. There are too many weird and meme ones that change the whole character. I'd rather just have a perkless mode.
