If you rage as a survivor or killer I want you to help me with an experiment.

So I see both sides blame each other over their rage on their role and I fully understand that people can get frustrated, especially over a pvp game. So im simply asking for those who main survivor or killer to play 10 games of the other role and tell me how you felt during that.

The reason for this experiment is the fact I've noticed that frustrated survivors want more control which the killers actually have and killers want more freedom to do stuff which survivors have. I want to see what you guys come up with. This is completely voluntary but would help with some theory crafting.

I'm not looking for perfect games, just how things go after 10 games. See how you are doing afterwards. This isn't for understanding the other side. Im also not looking to change your side on it because I understand with the time and money spent on it.

So please help me out with this..

  • I don't main any one side, but you've also had no replies so I'm happy to throw in my two cents as someone who has raged many times in both roles and it's honestly - regardless of whether I'm killer or survivor - always survivors that annoy me. SoloQ is a maelstrom of idiocy and winding up in a game with even 2 other good players is a big ask. Often I think "they must be new" only to see they've P100'd the character.

When I play killer it's the futility against SWF's; you can do everything right but it's never enough because the perks they run completely out do your own. They know all the maps they know all the loops. Unless you live on the game as killer you're ######### and quick given how extreme the MMR jump is. It's alright to get wrecked every so often, but when every single game becomes an absolute slog it just winds up a miserable experience.

All in all I genuinely don't believe there will ever be a fix for that: the perks are meant to help the bulk of soloQ players but most of them lack common sense and the same perks make a crack squad indestructible. I've since let go of taking it even remotely seriously and play several other games so my Vidya diet is healthy. I think that's the main thing - don't make DbD your main game or you'll quickly hate it.

  • I play both evenly. Killer pretty much every night and survivor in long sessions in parties. I have plenty of perspective. I understand the frustrations on both sides. Doesn't stop me from being angry when playing either role. The game is just frustrating and a lot of people choose to play in a way that's unfun and shortchanges their opponents of a proper match. Overall I currently prefer killer for the reason you mentioned: control. I'm tired of being at the mercy of others, especially with how short the supply has been in my survivor matches.

I'm in the same boat where, although I'm by far a survivor main, I've played a decent amount of killer and have been playing a lot of killer recently, but I still get frustrated on both sides. On killer side I get frustrated when every once in a while I run into a well coordinated team of survivors who all play really well and I spend the match feeling extremely weak, and on survivor I find myself frustrated from hard tunneling, slugging, camping, etc. While I like survivor's gameplay more, I also get frustrated a lot more. Especially when you play solo queue like I usually do, you feel an absolute lack of control over the game if the killer plays a certain way. I find that that feeling is much more frequent for me on the survivor side because 1. it only takes 1 person, not 4 people in a group and 2. I don't feel a lack of control against a 4 man SWF when they're not good at the game or playing casually because I can take advantage of their altruism.

My killer matches are regularly full of those kind of teams. I usually have at least one in a session where I can't touch anyone and I get two hooks. But even then, it's not like a survivor wipe, where you can see the match being a loss 30s in. On killer you can comeback. Survivor it's rare.

Oh yeah, I sure get that. I played some solo last night. Went like this:

P100 Nurse and p100 Ghoul. It kept being like this so I switched to killer. And even though I get much, much angrier on killer I don't have to deal with the exasperating annoyance at killers who don't want to actually play, they just want to win immediately.

  • when i get frustrated as killer i usually play a different game since when i play survivor my teammates are terrible and i don't feel like being more frustrated

yeah I mean there are certain play styles and even perk builds killers can employ that I basically just call "I don't actually want to play the game" builds. Things like hard tunneling with End Fury iri button + Julie's mixtape where the killer doesn't actually want to engage in chases, outplay and outsmart survivors. They just want to win without having to think or try. The closest you can really do on survivor to that is like stealth build Claudette in a corner all game

Yeah there really isn't a satisfying "I win" button on survivor. Even if you consider your own escape through a hatch a win the only satisfaction I get from that is stopping people who play like dicks from getting a 4k. Otherwise it's pretty empty. A close and even match is the most desirable outcome, but the most rare.

  • People who rage in this game never learned to manage their emotions appropriately. It's not the role. They likely rage in other aspects of their life too.

  • I play both sides and can tell you 10 games will feel very different depending on the night. The deciding factor isn't whether I win or lose it's did the games feel close but also fair. If I lose because I got tunneled feels very different than if I lose but didn't get tunneled and got good chases in and the game could have gone either way the killer just edged us out.

Same with killer, losing because the survivors got the safest loops imaginable chained together feels different than it was a fair map and the survivors just played efficiently.

I guess to put it cleanly the deciding factor on if I get angry or not is "did I get a chance to show skill expression or was the game decided by cheesing the game design".

  • I, too, usually play both roles kind of evenly. It's true I used to play killer more because I somehow found it more interesting than playing survivor, but now I usually play survivor more. And yes, I rage quite a lot, actually. This game gets me most of the times. If it's not because of the players, it's because of the game lagging or making 'mistakes'.

When playing survivor, I hate it and usually rage when I get toxic trolling teammates who try to sandbag me in any way (trying to bodyblock me, bring the killer to me, farm me and then bodyblock me…) though fortunately that isn't so common nowadays - there was a time in which I had plenty of this players, though. I also get annoyed by survivors who refuse to engage in any kind of 'normal' activity from the very first moment (I had a Mikaela yesterday who hid in a locker for the whole match since the beginning).

I also get annoyed by killers who will go full tunneling and camping soon in the match, specially if there's been no progress made by survivors. And let's not forget killers who will work with the teammates and spare them while they farm you and hunt you down.

When playing killer, I just get angry when survivors play way better than me and I can't seem to get nothing done, and then they t-bag or do toxic stuff. Or when they run a full build meant for messing with the killer (several members with head-on and perks focused on stunning / messing with the killer); it's ok finding one, but when you face a coordinated team of people abusing these perks, it's infuriating.

And I algo get angry when the match is lagging and hits that should have hit do not, or when I see people teleporting all around the map.

Also needs to be said, I usually don't get that angry when facing one of these things when spread out. But there are several times when you have to cope with this issues back-to-back. And the last couple days in the event queue has been like that for me.
