You're good. Definitely playing him will give you a better idea of what he's weak at. Just remember that other players have also learned "tricks" to optimize his gameplay. To fully understand how he plays, you'll also have to do some research on top of your own gameplay because some of these "techs" essentially patch out weaknesses in his kit.

im gonna be honest, ive only watched this guy named Asuno play Ghoul on YT

I think if they wanted to 'fix' babysitter, they could rework it to behave like 'No one Left Behind' where it doesn't give the survivor haste, it INCREASES their basekit haste by the % instead.

Maybe some would think that's too strong but that's how babysitter worked pre-diminishing returns so it can't have been too bad.

that would fix it for sure

I'm just frustrated that there aren't more people out there putting up any defense for Nurse, because while she can be a complete monster in the right hands, she takes a lot more effort to get there with her compared to some of the others. When I made my joke comments, I can't believe I was surprised that anyone actually took them seriously, it made my heart sink, and made me realize that survivors really do want her to be nigh unplayable before they'll stop pestering the devs to do so. That angered me, and yes, I was quick to pull the trigger in my anger because this whole post read less like a list of ideas for balance in the current game, and more like a collaborative plan to assassinate a character. The only other Killer that has just as high of a skill ceiling as her is singularity, but he doesn't get as high of rewards for mastering him. Comparing that to2 a killer like Ghoul, who takes far less effort, and has just as high rewards, feels wrong to me because it feels so unearned. Yet here we are again, discussing ideas for destroying this particular character, and nobody is coming to her defense.

I guess I shouldn't make jokes in a post like this… the responses just make me feel like an idiot.

if it makes you feel any better, i found your jokes quite funny and i feel ya

some wont like mine but heres my opinions, sry its alot:

    1. Playstyles like Camping, tunneling, and slugging are strategies that can fail and are not issues.
    2. 3 genning is 50% survivor's fault for not spreading out gens, other 50% if the killer defends the 3 closest gens either at 5 or 1 gen. This is not holding the game hostage and is fair.
    3. "its unfun to play against" is not a good reason to nerf killer
    4. survivor's fun is not the killer's job. The reverse is true as well
    5. This is a pvp before it is anything else, regardless if most of the playerbase is casual
    6. Players dont have the right to tell their opponent how to play.
    7. No Killer is "braindead", if you have to use your mouse/keyboard or controller to use the killer than it is not "braindead".
    8. Survivors have it way easier than Killers.
    9. Survivors have UI that tells you what your teammates are doing (doing gens/healing/totems/ who is being chased by the Killer) basekit anti-face camp, basekit anti-tunnel, gen become blocked from kicking 8 times to the killer but survivors can still repair them.
    10. Just because you play casually, doesnt mean the other side has to.
    11. The Ghoul doesnt need anymore nerfs.
    12. The Blight's nerf was unnecessary.
    13. The M2 Perk nerfs were not necessary (Surge, starstruck, STBFL)
    14. The STBFL M2 nerf was unnecessary.
    15. Legion should be put back into 2v8.
    16. The last anti-tunnel/slug ptb was dropped because it took away the Killer's "freedom Of Choice".
    17. Killers are the true soloq's. at least survivors have teammates in normal 1v4
    18. Nemesis 2v8: its only 4 zombies and they are not a problem

I have way more but ill end it there.

i agree with 3 to 6, i dont have thoughts on the others

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/468080/the-ghoul-is-fine

I think we need to stop justifying broken killers with: "well I have 0 hours on the character, I think he's fine!"

Like of course if you have no time with the killer he's going to feel like he has a million counters. Part of playing the killer is knowing his strong suits and his weak points. People consider him strong because of his flexibility, mobility, and the situations where he's strong vastly outweighs the situations where he's weak.

I do agree i am in the wrong with the first thing you said, i however want to point out i meant that as survivor i used just be miserable against the killer, but as playing it i am starting to understaand it better, i could have put it in a better way and im sorry for that. playing him is giving me a better idea on how to play against him, I do plan on spending more time on him, i apologize for any confusion and didnt mean to say something wrong. im just expressing myself

You know you can vault back through ghoul when he is using his leap to vault pallets or even window? Or you can do it after he vaults because he has no hitbox as wesker has now its harder on timing but works too. So his antiloop is without mobility temu wesker like.

I didnt know that, thats actually helpful, but to be fair im too scared to run at him full charge to vault back

  • @TerraKane said:

I agree with number 3, some maps spawn like every filler pallet rn every other match, that's a bug since February, many people brought that up, but the devs don't care. Instead they give another perk for resetting a dropped pallet which doesn't even cause exhaustion although it gives haste like Lithe.

For number 4, I think killers should have the option to abandon in endgame when no ones been hooked/downed for a while and the team just stands in the exit gate to BM and hold the match hostage. Honestly, if I've lost, I wanna go next and I don't need them gloating over their win in my face or waiting out the timer if I don't go the exit. If a survivor can abandon without penalty to not have to see a ten second mori, why can't killers abandon if the team is holding the match hostage?

Why abandon and pass up the oppurtunity to break pallets and walls for some extra goodies? Not to mention you can have an ability to punish survivors for that with certain add ons and perks? mostly extra bp gain

Snark aside, I've long argued the problem with Ghoul isn't his strength, it's the feedback.

Getting bitten by him just sucks, there's no two ways about it. The game sets the interaction up like there's a level of outplay, but it's an interaction that if you measure success by avoiding injury, the survivor pretty much always loses, oftentimes in ways that visually look completely unfair. That's free slowdown for Ghoul and while you now only have to loop an M1 killer with a scamper, you're doing it with 1 less health state than others and cannot gain distance on outdoor maps even with a huge mindgame win thanks to his mobility.

He's the killer equivalent of a fly that always gets away when you try to swat it and keeps buzzing near your ear making it impossible to ignore.

Outdoor maps are just unfair against him, i played as him in the Ormond showcase and whenever i got someone outside, they could barely run away. He is annoying to play against too, especially consider he can just vault over a pallet and hit you two seconds after. The slowdown he provides is miserable for sure, its the equivalent of an easier Legion hit when he wastes your time with the kagune mark. Not to mention if a Ghoul knows what they are doing they can easily bodyblock and deny a pallet or vault as well. all these aside i just want to say it can be a bad match for the Ghoul itself. Imagine trying to use your leaps on Midwhich or Hawkins, its hard to fully utilize any of that in such a tight indoor map. Not to mention the counterplay of getting out of LOS in a loop so he cant vault is strong too. Still a mess of a killer. I agree with you on all aspects though

    The Killer:

I like the concept and the lore. I can see there's a lot of love put into this, especially with the Mori. I feel the killer power needs a bit more info on how it works exactly.

Right now, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's just an M1 killer with a global passive that blocks certain resources based on RNG. Theming-wise, that's great. The idea of fast vaulting causing an injury so the survivor has to consciously choose to medium vault or ditch the resource entirely is unique and interesting.

I think looking at the power in a way that makes it a bit more active and perhaps adds a secondary objective for the survivors (warming up by some means) would help make them slightly more unique to play against.

I see this working as a set up killer. Survivors can thaw frozen vaults/pallets with a special interaction (maybe after finding campfire and pulling a burning branch from it), which cannot be done in chase as it takes too long. Maybe instead of having a maximum number of 'freezes' that can be applied at once, The Captain earns these as a resource for chase/injuries and can spend them accordingly.

    Perks:
Posessive is just an upgrade from Predator, which is Wraith's perk.

Cold Shoulder is alright. It's very similar to Knock Out from Bubba, with a longer effect but requiring you to eat a stun for it to activate, so probably will see a little use here or there.

Friendzone (or is it Frozen Heart, based on the perk description?) is cute. Pairing it with I'm All Ears from Ghostface would make for some interesting ways to play around fast vaults. It does last an awfully long time and the cooldown is only 10 seconds longer than the effect, though, so this may result in most chases being at perma 3% hinder and perma oblivious. That might be obnoxious but I couldn't tell you if it's too strong.

Transfer Student is probably the most interesting unique perk I've seen offered here. From what I understand, it's a means to bait the killer away from where you are, risking an injury but also gaining some distance. Further, if you make it to a locker you can move to it. To be 100% honest, I don't see this perk being meta, but I do see it as a popular meme/fun pick for messing around with silly locker strats.

Closeted is umm… I get the story implications here, but I'm not 100% sure about the name. The effect is okay, very niche but given the other perks here I can tell locker builds are the plan.

Tutor is pretty okay as well. Easier great skill checks would be pretty gross with Hyperfocus alongside it. Could make for some interesting double-up duo builds on generators instead of spreading out being the choice in 99.9% of cases. Which is a decision I'd like to see come into play more often. ~

EDIT: I want to add that I think it's genuinely hilarious that the survivor whose primary experience in their backstory is getting stuffed in lockers has perks associated with them.

    Dwights Student has arrived

I want to say why I love this combo. It is so good on how it makes his Hallucinations Much more Dangerous from not just being for Teleporting.

It encourages you to break stuff which makes you spawn Hallucinations faster, it makes breaking stuff less time consuming, it can be combined with peaks (is not affected by Diminishing Returns by the way. Yes it says it is but it isnt from me trying it). So you can make his Hallucinations extremely dangerous in case or outside case.

    Real Name: Noah Mercer

    New Survivor: Elliot Hart

New Map: St. Laurent Academy Ice Complex

    Chapter Overview

Frozen Heart is a psychological horror chapter centered around obsession, repression, and possessive love turned monstrous.

At St. Laurent Academy, hockey captain Noah Mercer seemed destined for greatness. A star athlete, team captain, and local hero, he embodied everything the school celebrated.

    Elliot Hart was his opposite.

    Quiet. Studious. Awkward. Invisible.

For years, Noah disguised his fascination with Elliot as cruelty. Every insult, every shove into a locker, every public humiliation concealed feelings he refused to acknowledge.

Then Elliot started dating one of Noah's teammates.

    Jealousy became anger.

    Anger became violence.

    One teammate disappeared.

    Then another.

    Then another.

By the time the truth emerged, the academy's championship hockey team had become a slaughterhouse.

When Noah finally cornered Elliot inside the school's rink, he found himself unable to choose between embracing him or killing him.

Before either decision could be made, a dense Fog rolled across the ice.

The Entity had already chosen for them.

    Killer: The Captain

    Name: Noah Mercer

    Alias: The Captain

    Nationality: Canadian

    Weapon: The Sharpened Stick

A shattered hockey stick reinforced with jagged ice and stained with the blood of Noah's former teammates.

    Movement Speed: 115%

    Terror Radius: 32 meters

    Height: Tall

    Killer Power: Cold Fury

The Captain's emotions have manifested into supernatural frost.

His rage spreads freezing energy throughout the Trial, slowing and isolating survivors who attempt to escape his grasp.

The longer survivors resist him, the colder the world becomes. Pallets periodically freeze over and vaults become cover in sharps ice shards that cause survivor fast-vaulting to become injured.

    Killer Perks

    Possessive

    "You can't hide from me."

After losing a Survivor during a chase, that Survivor's aura is revealed for 5 seconds.

Possessive then enters a 30-second cooldown.

    Given the Cold Shoulder

    "Every rejection leaves a mark."

After stunning the Killer, the Survivor suffers from 5% Hindered for 6/8/10 seconds.

Given the Cold Shoulder can only affect a Survivor once every 30 seconds.

    Friendzone

"You spent so long ignoring me. Now you'll pay for it."

Whenever a Survivor performs a rushed vault while inside your Terror Radius, they suffer from Oblivious for 20/25/30 seconds.

While a Survivor is Oblivious, they suffer from 3% Hindered.

A Survivor can only be affected by Frozen Heart once every 40 seconds.

    Survivor: Elliot Hart

Elliot Hart spent most of his life trying not to be noticed.

Years of bullying taught him how to disappear into crowds, avoid confrontation, and find escape routes others overlooked.

While others learned confidence, Elliot learned survival.

Even in The Fog, he remains difficult to pin down.

    Survivor Perks

    Transfer Student

"You spent years finding ways around obstacles others never noticed."

While Healthy and the Obsession, cleansing a Totem activates Transfer Student.

Enter a locker and rush out to create an Astral Projection lasting up to 20 seconds.

    The Projection:

    • Can pass through dropped pallets.
    • Can move through breakable doors.
    • Ignores environmental obstacles that would normally block Survivor movement.
    • May enter another locker to instantly teleport you to that location.

If the Killer attacks the Projection:

    • You immediately lose a health state.
    • Gain Broken for 20 seconds.
    • Scream, revealing your location.

    Transfer Student deactivates after use.

    Closeted

    "Some habits become second nature."

While injured inside a locker, your grunts of pain are reduced by 50/62.5/75%.

    Tutor

"You always did your best work with others."

While repairing a Generator with at least one other Survivor:

    • Item charges are consumed 8/10/12% slower.
    • Great skill check success zones are increased by 5%.

New Map: St. Laurent Academy Ice Complex

A prestigious Canadian academy renowned for its elite hockey program.

Now trapped within The Entity's Realm, the campus remains frozen in the moments after Noah's massacre.

The distant hum of refrigeration units echoes through abandoned hallways while frost slowly spreads across shattered trophies and blood-stained locker rooms.

    Map Areas

    • Championship Ice Rink
    • Home Team Locker Room
    • Visitor Locker Room
    • Trophy Hall
    • School Library
    • Science Wing
    • Cafeteria
    • Gymnasium
    • Administrative Offices
    • Maintenance Corridors

The central ice rink acts as the map's landmark, visible from multiple sections of the school.

    Interactive Map Feature: Refrigeration Cycle

Throughout the Trial, the arena's aging refrigeration system periodically activates.

Cold fog pours through sections of the map, reducing visibility and coating surfaces with frost.

The system serves as a constant reminder of the place where Noah's obsession finally consumed everything around him.

    Mori: Mine Alone

The Captain knocks the Survivor to the ground.

Instead of finishing them immediately, he kneels beside them.

He gently straightens their clothing and brushes frost from their shoulder.

For a brief moment, his expression softens.

    Almost regretful.

    Almost loving.

Then he drives the sharpened hockey stick through their chest.

As the Survivor collapses, Noah pulls them close and watches the life leave their eyes.

Only when they stop moving does he finally let go.

I love this, a Yandere style killer is an amazing idea (Yandere is an anime trope of a specific person who can go to drastic measures over a person they love for those who dont know). Doomed Yaoi i see….also id like to point out that Posessive is just Predator. i love this idea though

Guys… can we please talk about the Knight? It's one of my favorite killers, but he's got so much problems right now…

The most obvious one is how you can juke his specters by simply touching a window. This is so unfair, specially considering that his most efficient (at hunting) specter is the Assassin, which stays hunting you for a very small time and, on top of that, has a huuuge cooldown to be used again (out of the three specters Knight can summon, Assassin is the one with the bigger cooldown).

The second problem is: sometimes, when you're creating a path to summon one of your specters, your pathing gets blocked by invisible collisions. It's not that frequent, but I've faced this problem a few times. I guess it has something to do with invisible hitboxes, idk? Kinda like when you're playing as survivor and try to walk through a small space (but not that small that a human body cannot go through) and your survivor simply cannot do it, it hits something invisible.

The third one is related to perks. Out of every build I've tested, Knight does not synergize well with a single one… Maybe the totem build? The one with Thrill of the hunt, face the darkness, ruin and devour hope. Aside from this one… i've tried numerous builds… not a single one stands out, unlikely for Kaneki, for Doctor (with the impossible skill check one, the anti-heal one, etc), Blight, Nurse, with the traditional one (pain resonance, grim embrace, etc)…

Ok, so… what's my point? Since he does not synergize well with any meta builds (aside from the hexes one), my suggestion is: lower his cooldowns a bit and remove the window-juke.

Anyone has good suggestions that we can discuss? Novel ideas, maybe? I'm all "eyes".

i do agree with all this, but i generally wanna know how no one has downvoted this post yet, dont people hate the Knight?

I have been getting DC penalties for having to dodge Sadako games, because her sound effects are NOT accessibility friendly for players like me who have diagnosed Tinnitus. High-pitched frequencies such as TV whining and things along those lines are PHYSICALLY PAINFUL for people with Tinnitus and can cause further hearing loss.

Over the last two years, I started playing a different game that had a Tinnitus Filter. This is the first time I had ever seen one in a game before, but when I turned it on, I cried a little because I have never seen my disability be considered in a game's accessibility features before. It muffles a lot of sound which can be annoying, but the most important part was that it made the game manageable for me to play. Please consider adding a Tinnitus Filter so that I can stop being punished for taking care of my disability!

On the contrary, Unknown was the entire selling point of the chapter throughout the entirety of All Things Wicked's marketing, meanwhile we never saw Sable until the chapter trailer.

Unknown in of itself, is to me, what makes the All Things Wicked chapter overrated.

Yet everyone saw the goth girl and was like "oh yeah, its all coming together now"

Warning: if a video game opinion genuinely triggers you, don’t read this thread.😂

I think Nowhere to Hide is one of the cheapest and most braindead perks in the game and makes a bunch of other killer aura perks obsolete.

Why run niche tracking perks when you can just kick a gen and instantly reveal everyone around you for that long? And if you pair it with Lethal Pursuer, it gets even dumber.

People love calling Windows of Opportunity “handholding” for survivors, but what exactly is this then?

The perk takes so much tracking work away from the killer. You just kick a gen with no cooldown and get value. And since you can kick the same gen like 8 times anyway, the limit doesn't matter. It's just “kick gen, spin camera, walk at highlighted survivor.”

    • someone’s nearby = free info
    • nobody’s nearby = also free info because now you know where not to waste time searching, time to kick the next gen LOL

I don’t even think it’s overpowered necessarily. I just think it’s an insanely low-IQ perk for how much value it gives you.

What’s your unpopular Dead by Daylight opinions?

to prove your point i am downvoting every comment in this thread because im bored and have no life

I feel like most takes in here are pretty cold, lmao.

Here's one that I'm sure will get a little bit of backlash: Players across the board (though especially survivors) rely way too much on their completely over-tuned perks to play the game for them instead of putting in actual effort.

About time someone says it, i applaud you

That's how I have felt with Onyro. When I first got the game. I was told "She is the weakest killer. She has no chase power bro dont play her"

I didn't care. She's from my favorite horror films. P100 and proud. I just wish she was in a better place than she is.

i see more Onryo mains here then i do in the game lol

  • @Interocitor said:

most respected would be Blight mains who play on the Switch if they even exist because he's so hard to play on switch with the fps drops and performance issues

as for most fun to play against I still like the chainsaw only Billy mains

i love playing him, seeing as im a switch player and have no other platform

  • @Rick1998 said:

probably huntress . She requires quite a bit of finesse tp play well and is just a classic killer at this point . I see her as more of the dbd mascot then even trapper honestly .

I have very bad memeories with Huntress Mains, they usally end up being very cocky and toxic, im sure its not all of them, i just dont like the killer that much

    • Alot of Content Creators are clearly biased, and despite acting like they're not, all more or less serve as one of the main sources that causes people to act tribalistic in the community.
    • Wesker & Legion have the least fitting chase tracks in the game.
    • The All Things Wicked chapter is the single most overrated chapter which popularity is solely carried by its initial marketing.
    • The Myers rework is not nearly as bad or out of character as people claim it is.
    • If reddit and twitter has taught me anything, it's that a big part of this community absolutely despises actual hot takes or anything else that truly deviates from the popular opinion.
    • DBD should get rid of 25% of all perks, remove their ties to the characters and only add new ones, when it actually brings something meaningful to the game.

its only overrated because of Sable, Unknown barely exists anymore

Skull Merchant and Freddy Mains. They have gone through so much. Honorable Mentions, Twins and Houndmaster since they have had to deal with A LOT of game breaking issues with their powers on a consistent basis.

As a Skully main, im gonna admit i didnt go through any of the nerfs or what not that happened, im newer to the game and Picked her up thinking her power was interesting, and after a few good matches with lots of kills, and some dcs for some reason, i learnt she was like the weakest killer. i did not care lol

  • Try to break LOS {line of sight} with him as much as you can, like nurse you can counter by gaining as much distance as you can, and constantly breaking LOS, If you are in chase and hes ready to use his power, {which you can see as he holds his other arm out} start moving randomly and making it hard for him to predict. try not to get locked in animation though

    @Vergiveren said:

I dodge dodge than die,I struggle against him more than nurse any advice?

I think DBD’s current SBMM could be improved by looking at more than just the final result of a match. Escapes and kills are not always reliable indicators of skill.

For survivor, escaping does not automatically mean someone played well. A player can hide most of the match, get hatch, bring a key, or be carried by teammates and still technically “win.” At the same time, a survivor can do gens, take chase, make safe saves, protect teammates, and still die.

For killer, kills are not always the best measurement either. A killer can have low pressure all match and still get kills at the end through NOED, camping, tunneling, or survivor mistakes. Meanwhile, a killer can get 8–10 hooks, pressure the whole team, and still end with only a 1K or 2K.

A better SBMM system should still care about winning, but it should also track actual match performance.

For killer, that could include things like:

    • Raw hook count
    • Unique survivors hooked
    • Hook-to-gen ratio
    • Chase efficiency
    • Pressure before endgame
    • How many hooks happened before gens were completed

For survivor, that could include things like:

    • Gen progress
    • Useful chase time
    • Safe unhooks
    • Protection hits that actually matter
    • Healing value
    • Low dead time
    • Team contribution before escaping or dying

The biggest factor, in my opinion, should be gen-to-hook ratio. That shows the actual flow of the match better than just the end screen. A killer getting 6–8 hooks before the gates are powered is very different from a killer getting 2 hooks all match and then 2 kills at the end because of NOED.

Devotion level could also be used as a secondary matchmaking factor. Not as a direct skill rating, because devotion does not always equal skill, but as an experience filter. A Devotion 45 player being matched against a Devotion 12 killer can still feel mismatched because the experience gap is massive. MMR should matter most, but devotion/playtime could help prevent extreme experience gaps where possible.

I’m not saying SBMM can ever be perfect, because DBD has too many variables for that. But it should measure pressure, contribution, chase value, and objective value, not only kills and escapes.

Better matchmaking should reward how the match was played, not just what the final scoreboard says.

Pardon me for a horrendously stupid question your about to hear. What is MMR? i have heard its like a way of skill based matchmaking. I dont understand it that much

I think they're selecting a map from each year every couple days leading up to the Anniversary. Previous Road to Anniversary events just had a selection of maps with increased chances each week for 3 weeks, but they've phased that out since they introduced the showcase system last year.

Ahh i see, so nothings been changed?
