I could've sworn a good chunk of those existed before the dark times and patched before the dark times or within the dark times. I guess it depends on where you decide to date the Dark times, which is debatable.

OP mentions starting in Oct 2016, and everything I mentioned in the list was relevant at that time.

  • Can't ignore all the BS Survivors had to deal with as well.

    • Killers blocking entrance/exit to the basement, because the stairs were thinner back then. Could hold the game hostage indefinitely because there was no End Game Collapse.
    • Nurse originally having three blinks by default, could increase it to seven with add-ons, and she moved at the full 115% movement speed.
    • Memento Mori's could take a Survivor out of the game after a single down.
    • The Machine Gun build (Unrelenting + Save the Best for Last) was utterly broken beyond belief.
    • Actual, genuine facecamping was a thing. It was quite literally impossible to save someone being facecamped, because the unhook prompt wouldn't show up.
    • The Trapper could put traps directly underneath a hooked player, and could stack traps onto other traps at that. It was impossible to save someone with a trap underneath unless you had several Survivors working together to disarm them while someone else unhooks.
    • NOED was permanent once activated, with no way to disable it nor was it on a timer.

I don't want to come off as a case of 'whataboutism', but you did neglect to mention a single thing that Killers had going for them (and they had quite a lot indeed).

spirit has mobility with a hight potential for ending chases fast, BUT if u track survs correctly, especially if they dont use 3 SC perks and run iron will (that probably might be much stronger than one or two SC perks)

    Alright?

It looked like you were leading up to a point there, but didn't end up saying it.

I'm aware Spirit has high mobility and can quickly and easily end chases. What does that have to do with my original comment?

yea i think it is good for those who are sensitive but i am a FIRM believer of freedom of speech. Just put an option to toggle.

Freedom of Speech is there to protect citizens from being censored by the State. It does not apply to private organisations (such as BHVR).

Like someone already mentioned, the only words that are going to be censored are derogatory slurs. It is not an issue.

Not wanting to be subject to hateful speech does not make someone 'sensitive'.

  • complaining about Survivors running Meta perks

    playing Spirit with Stridor

    Can't make this up.

  • David and Doctor has a outfit each in a previous Rift, themed after the Navy.

  • Copy pasted from my answer to another thread just like this, only two days ago (because this idea pops up frequently).

"The entire point was to reward the players who stuck through the grind without promise of an ultimate goal."

No one grinded for Legacy. No one even knew if the game was going to be alive by the end of the year. The point was to give the players who stuck with the game at its infancy something to commemorate it by.

Adding a new Legacy (and bringing the old one back applies also) would ruin the whole point of it being 'Legacy'.

Bloody outfits for Prestige still exist and already fill the niche of an earnable cosmetic for levelling a character up.

  • No thank you. This isn't a goofy shooter game, we don't need Survivors dabbing at the exit gate, and Killers flossing while facecamping.

The point and beckon emotes Survivors have are more than enough.

I will have to wait for the new patch and reduce it to the smallest size and cover it to do what I wanted :(

The option to change the scale of the HUD is already in the current live game. It's in the Settings.

  • It happens if the Survivor starts recovering immediately after going down, before the animation ends.

It fixes itself once the Killer picks them up, or the Survivor starts crawling around. Just a visual bug, nothing really worth making a deal over.

  • Sorry, but a single game with bad opponents is not nearly enough to confirn such a bold claim.

Come back when you've tested several dozen matches as every single Killer.

Until then, I think I'll take BHVR's word on it.

  • Yes, as long as you don't keep them there for too long, and that the game will actually end sooner or later.

If it's the last Survivor and the End Game Collapse hasn't started, than that would be reportable.

Securing a kill to the EGC is not, however.

  • He has a very easily drawn and cosplayed design, similar to the Legion.

I imagine if any other Killer got this amount of fanart at their release, they'd be shared by the Twitter as well.

No, I didn't. Besides you don't have to buy rift right away at day 1. If you know that you will not be playing this game constantly, then sorry. But game is for playing and having fun period. Even with having at least two outfits, the rift is way more worth it than the cosmetic set. You don't have to be at tier 70 to feel satisfyied from the rift pass.

Yes, you did. I am not debating whether the Rift is worth what it costs (which I agree that it is), but on WHY it is cheap as it is.

Because of the time investment needed to get what you actually paid for, as already explained. Compared to getting outfits as soon as you buy them in a direct purchase.

If you still don't get that, than we're done here.

  • @Ihatelife said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2002725#Comment_2002725

If you don't have time to play this game, what is even the point of buying something from it?

    Lmao

It's like buying an apple, never eating it and just dropping it into the trash bin.

    You missed the point completely.

Like already mentioned, the Rift is relatively cheap because you're not getting what you are paying for right away. There's a significant time investment as well.

That module is pretty standard in most live service games.

  • @Ihatelife said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2002707#Comment_2002707

Funny, because with my job and college I can still find time to max out the rift to 70 level, before the rift is closed. Basically one tier per day and you're fine.

    Alright.

What about people with full time jobs they have to go to everyday, and families they have to take care of, and other games/hobbies they want to play?

It's not realistic to expect most people to complete the Rift through time played alone, and that's the point. It's to sucker you into buying the last few tiers that you wouldn't otherwise get.

  • @Ihatelife said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2002690#Comment_2002690

Time is no longer expensive in nowadays. Everyone just wants now to live at the best and fast.

Time is no longer expensive for you.

Most people are unable to play the several dozen hours it takes to max out the Rift.

  • Its only real use is to be combined with Iron Will to counter Stridor.

Of course, that's not a very viable option anyway because you're left injured the whole time.

How about making a hard mode like it was back in the day? A P4 which takes 100 million bp to earn 1 item or something

The entire point was to reward the players who stuck through the grind without promise of an ultimate goal.

    It be like that sometimes.

  • I chalked that up to Cheryl specifically having dealt with supernatural entities in the past, so she would be more "in-tune" with her current predicament. Not something any old Survivor could do.

  • @Thund3rstruck57 said:

@Orion I know that wasn't your intention. I'm actually impressed by the effort you put in. I recognize that this isn't the first time there has been a licensed chapter drought. However, back then, they hadn't mentioned that 50% goal, which is why I'm only now bringing this up. On the Licensing Q&A YouTube video posted on October 16, 2020, Mathieu Cote said the following at the 50:40 timestamp:

"We come up with 4 chapters a year...more or less. If you count the first year it was maybe...it's about 4 a year. Out of that, we try to keep at least 50% of those originals because it's important to us to continue working on our own story and continue to deepen the lore of Dead By Daylight so that's an average that we're going to try to keep. That means 2 possible licenses a year...maybe...maximum. How many out there? There's so many. We've been live for it seems like forever but it's 5 years. 5 years...2 licenses a year...that's about 10 licenses...we're close to that right now so ya there's no way we can bring in 50 different licenses. We wouldn't want to do that anyway. At this point we have to pick out battles. There are still some really really cool ones out there but we want them to be a surprise when we bring them to you."

I would like to note that they had just released the Blight and the 2 chapters since then have also been original to make 3 in a row. Considering that the majority of the current roster is original, making a schedule where every other chapter is licensed from here on out would hit that 2 licenses per year (and no more than that) goal while keeping the roster majority original and massively reducing community disappointment. Original chapter fans would know when their next chapter is coming and licensed chapter fans would know that as well.

Well, he did say "2 possible licenses a year...**maybe**."

That's not a guarantee there will always be two licensed per year. That leaves the possibilities of oddities (and there has been).

This year, we only got Silent Hill, and that's completely fine.

Last year, we had Evil Dead, Ghostface & Stranger Things.

The year before that, there were none at all. Again, that's fine.

Then we had Leatherface, NOES and SAW all in a row.

And finally in the first year, we had Halloween and Left 4 Dead.

It's pretty likely that this years anniversary Chapter (so the one after All Kill) will be licensed, just like the previous two have been.

  • Spirit doesn't take nearly as much skill and effort to justify just how strong she is.

Nurse may be the best, but she doesn't feel unfair to go against because there's actually ways to play around her.

I'd much rather go against a god-tier Nurse main then even a mediocre Spirit main. At least in the former match, I can enjoy myself and feel my death was because of my own mistakes, and not cheap like against a Spirit.

It's very difficult to play the Nurse effectively, so it makes sense that her ability is super powerful once mastered.

  • No. It's Steam exclusive.

  • Just because you're both on the same 'team' doesn't mean you have to cooperate. You don't benefit from having other Survivors escape at the cost of your own life other than self-satisfaction. It's not a win for all Survivors as long as at least one escapes (unless you personally feel that way of course, but in terms of game mechanics it isn't).

  • Definitely just for the trailer.

The Holiday collection trailer last year took place in a cozy decorated lodge that obviously isn't apart of any map in the game.

  • @Pilot said:

Ghostface is a licensed killer. There will be NO RIFT

As for Feng, When BHVR decides so.

There have been Feng cosmetics in the past (I think?), inside the rift. If you want them, you'll need to wait for them to appear in the shop.

Correction. The mask he is wearing is licensed.

The character of Danny Johnson/Jed Olson is completely BHVR original, and so it's not out of the question he may feature in a Tome at some point.

Also the lag and fps drops might play a role with the player count drop aswell.

I was talking more about PTBs in general rather than the current one specifically, but that also may play a factor.

  • @Aquitus said:

ive been searching for a game as killer for like an hour did everyone go back to live?

I'd imagine the vast majority of players indeed go back to live within a day of the PTB launching. There's not much to do on it besides test out the new content, which doesn't take too long.

Coupled with the fact that since it's Steam exclusive, the total player pool is much smaller than usual which doesn't help with the matchmaking times in the PTB.

  • Only if I mess up and end up farming them, which is rare but does happen.

In that case, I can't blame them for being upset at me.

  • Nope.

Nurse is already the most unique Killer in the game, and very powerful at that. She doesn't need to be "standardised" to match other Killers, because that would be boring.

  • I prefer the Slinger of the D's myself, but it's pretty obvious the Huntress is better in almost every way.

The only advantages the Deathslinger has is the quick aim to shoot time and not needing to run to a locker to reload. In every other aspect, Huntress is better, because her projectiles damage the Survivor upon and impact and can actually down Survivors without having to drag them to her.

Huntress can down Survivors through pallets, Deathslinger can only put them in Deep Wound if they aren't already, unless the tile is short enough that he can navigate around before the chain breaks.

Yeah I think she could get some effortless kills but I doubt all that many honestly. It also feels like a risky play to wait until the end to use them. She just feels a bit too weak already to me that having that extra weakness is a little overkill to me

    For example, picture this scenario:

Dwight plays perfectly for the entire match without being found. Until the last generator has been activated, and he gets caught in a deadzone and downed. Now Dwight has a trap on him. Now Dwight is absolutely screwed.

The Pig has no reason to leave Dwight, because there's no more generators to protect. She can open the door to force the End Game collapse, and there's literally nothing Dwight can do. The Pig can simply force him away from the key boxes with no fear of wasting time to losing generators.

So now Dwight can't escape because the trap will kill him, but he can't get the trap off because the Pig is camping the box. There's simply nothing he can do except wait for the End Game Collapse to kill him, there's 0 counter play to that.

The way it works now means it would actually be Dwight's fault for being caught in that situation, because he had the trap put on him in advance before the last generator activated.

  • @IWasLeft2Die said:

Ohh I didn't know that. Weird. That feels like an unnecessary limitation to the pig to me.

It'd be too easy to save your traps for the end game and basically get effortless kills by preventing them from getting a box.

  • @NoOneKnowsNova said:

Map reworks usually come mid chapter iirc.

They also usually drop alongside a Chapter.

We had the Ormond and Autohaven reworks alongside the Twins, and the MacMillan Estate and Badham reworks alongside the Blight.

  • Nah. I don't need Survivors stacking Adrenaline on top of their Dead Hard, Iron Will, Borrowed Time and Decisive Strike builds.

  • Most likely the Trickster. At the end of the day, Ghostface's only ability is to stalk and mark. The Trickster has several dozen throwing knives, and his melee blade has far more reach then GF's small knife.

  • My top picks would be the Huntress and Trickster, honestly.

  • Dead Hard is irritating because it extends chases **on command**. All of the other Exhaustion perks have a prerequisite or downside to it.

    • Balanced Landing requires a significant drop to use, and not all maps have those readily available (if at all).
    • Lithe requires a window or pallet vault before it can be used, both of which leave the Survivor vulnerable during their animations.
    • Sprint Burst requires the Survivor to walk everywhere if they don't want to waste it, and the chances of being found mid-cooldown means it can be rarely used as a quick boost in a chase.
    • Smash Hit needs you to get a successful pallet stun, which may not be possible depending on how much the Killer respects pallets.

Dead Hard has nothing. All you need to do is time the activation, which isn't difficult in the slightest.

"Welp, he pressed E and made it to that loop whereas anyone else would've gone down. Time for it to extend the chase by another 45-60 seconds."

So much skill. It's the literal definition of a Second Chance perk. At least Decisive Strike can only be used once per game, and the screw up that it needs to activate (being hooked) isn't wiped away by the perk's usage.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

Shouldn't take more then a single match really, unless the Killer is very commited to picking every Survivor up the moment they go down. In that case, that's just bad luck

Which seems to be the case for the majority of killers at the moment. As soon as you stick the challenge on you suddenly no longer face slugging infectious oni players and now its grab-myers every. single. game.

Sounds like the same kind of phenomenon that guarantees you will always be the first to be found and hooked in a match whenever you equip Deliverance. 😁

  • That challenge doesn't sound that difficult? I haven't reached it yet, but by the wording, you don't even need to heal a Survivor from 0 to full, and just need to pick them in general.

Run We're Gonna Live Forever for the extra healing speed, and maybe combine that with Botany Knowledge, We'll Make It and a tricked out Medkit.

  • Eh. The Trickster's just as edgy as DBD's depiction of Ghostface.

They have basically the same backstory motive after all. The only real difference is that Ghostface took photos of his victims while the Trickster recorded their screams for entertainment.

  • @DontNerf said:

Backstory sure! But gameplay wise its a waste of a name. The idol sounds way better

Several Killers have names that aren't descriptive of their abilities.

What about the names 'Nurse' and 'Doctor' makes you think of teleportation and electroshock blasts?

How about 'Legion' being a teenager who can run fast and stab often, or 'Blight' having someone inject themselves with a serum to bounce off walls?

All of their names make sense within the context of their backstories and not their abilities, just like the Trickster.

  • The word 'trick' has a double meaning.

    Going by Google's definitions:

    image.png image.png

The name makes perfect sense going by his backstory, both as a performer for the first definition, and his habit of murdering people in his downtime for the second.

  • @Dabihwow said:

I honestly think it would be cooler if it worked like how it does in Outlast

...to use it as Night Vision?

None of the maps in the game are nearly dark enough to warrant a visibility increase. That would be kind of redundant.

The thing is the Entity grabs people from the real world and sends them to the Fog where they become what they are now, it always snatches humans.

Blight, Hag, Spirit etc were regular humans until the moment they were snatched and twisted, for a vampire Survivor to exists the Entity would have to snatch a regular human and transform it into a vampire and that doesnt make much sense lore-wise.

The Demogorgon is a special case because its a license so I wouldnt take its existence as canon (if they were to make comics, novels, a movie DBD related I supose most licensed characters wouldnt make it).

Even than, the Demogorgon isn't a supernatural being like a Vampire would be. It's an otherworldly specimen for sure, but who's to say a creature like it doesn't exist as a lifeform on another planet that Humans have yet to discover.

Basically, I'm saying that the Demogorgon is still more grounded to reality and fits in DBD more than a Vampire (or indeed any true supernatural being) would.

Is the literal language the killer speaks "simple"? What did you expect, exactly?

Apparently, the background reminiscent of nightlife downtown Seoul, the many mentions of the city in both characters backstories and the fact that the Trickster literally speaks the language during his Mori, isn't enough to convince that guy that this Chapter is infact themed after (South) Korea.

No point arguing with ignorant people who choose to stay that way.

After all, the Joker is a Comic Book villain, not a Horror Slasher. He wouldn't fit in DBD either.
