I imagine that they are limited in what they can do, given he's a licensed character (on the surface level).
Also, I disagree. It looks really well designed to me, with the skin exposed to the elements, icicles protruding from his body and frost bitten arms. Very well done.

I would love to see a first person option, personally.
I've got almost 4000 hours so the gameplay is pretty stale, so I would definitely jump at the chance to shake it up even if doing so would handicap me.
I prefer playing first person in most games when given the chance anyhow, such as in Fallout and Grand Theft Auto V.

VPNing to play in a different region's servers to ping abuse sucks yeah, but most people are currently using VPNs to hide their IP addresses from malicious hackers.

I believe Legacy should be available for everyone to earn, instead of giving it for free.
Perhaps after you reached P3, you would get the option to Prestige again, but for Legacy cosmetics instead of the regular bloody prestige ones that you've already collected.
However, that also meant that your Bloodweb would be the same from 2016, and your Bloodpoint gains would be reduced. Earning Legacy just like the OG players did sounds fair in my book.
And no, this suggestion isn't mine. I actually heard it from a Legacy owner who lost it because of the devastating "loss of progress" glitch that happened back in the day.
The thing is, people back in the day had no incentive to Prestige. They played the game, suffered the enormous Bloodwebs, and Prestiged because they genuinely enjoyed the game, wanted to support it and see it succeed.
There was a very short period of time (a couple of weeks iirc) between the announcement of Legacy and the cut off date. The majority of players who have Legacy didn't Prestige specifically for it, but for the reasons I mentioned above.
Making Legacy a permanent reward for Prestiging removes literally everything unique about it. It just becomes another piece of Prestige gear, just glowing instead of blood. Removes the whole point (wouldn't make sense to be called Legacy either), and just spits on the players who actually earned them back in the day.
The only players who should get Legacy now are ones that actually used to have them but lost them to the glitch you mentioned. No one new should get it because that would defeat the whole point of it being 'Legacy', and fortunately the developers seem to agree with this assessment (as they have mentioned time and time again over the years).

Doesn't directing antagonism towards those people due to their Russian ethnicity count as racism?? Not looking for fisticuffs here haha, I'm genuinely unsure coz the race/ethnicity/nation differentiation confuses me sometimes
'Russian' isn't an ethnicity, it's a nationality.
Just like 'American', 'British', 'Australian', 'Chinese' etc, aren't races, so you can't be racist to them, but you *can* be racist to Caucasians, Asians, Indigenous Americans, etc.
Racism is discrimination based on the colour of skin (aka ethnicity/race) while xenophobia is discrimination based on their nation of origin (aka nationality).
They are two distinct categories, and often legal documents have you fill out both.
-
I don't understand why people complain so much about the grind when *they* are the ones deciding to Prestige every character three times over for a single cosmetic set.
Newsflash people, Prestige is optional and not part of the grind. There's no point in going past level 40 (when you unlock the third teachable) on characters you do not play. Yet people still dump several million Bloodpoints into characters they're never gonna play, and then complain about it.
Getting every character to level 40, and the perks you want on your mains of choice, should be considered the grind. Not getting *every character to level 200+*. Of course that is going to take forever, because its not supposed to be done by the average player, and provides no benefit when it is done.

I recall having an argument with a fellow survivor who was also spouting the infamous Russian slurs at a player with a Russian steam profile. I called them out on their racism, telling them that it's not exclusive to skin colour. I'll never forget their reply:
"i disagree"
Gotta love people hiding behind online anonimity.
That Survivor isn't actually wrong. By definition, they weren't being racist.
The term you're looking for is 'xenophobic', which is prejudice against someone based on their country of origin, not skin colour or ethnicity.

Useful and informative thread.

Jake's is pretty lame, unfortunately.
-
Handicapping players because they want to play with their friends in a game that encourages teamwork is not the way to go.
Give the Killer more incentive to play against SWFs, but don't give Survivors less incentive to not play with their friends.

Yeah, but this was discovered on Thursday, I think. They had time to post a "We're aware and working on this issue."
(Also congrats on 1K posts)
That is very true. Some direct acknowledgement of the issue would have been nice, but there was nothing. All we can do is assume we'll see some tomorrow.
(Thank you. Didn't even notice I was coming up to it.)
-
I expect we'll see something tomorrow. It's currently almost midnight on a Sunday where BHVR is, and they don't work weekends which is why we haven't heard anything for a couple of days.

You got a disconnect penalty... because you disconnected?
Seems simple to me. The opponent (or in this case, uncooperative teammates) outplaying/BMing you/whatever) isn't cause to disconnect.
The only justified reasons to disconnect in my opinion is when you're having a real life emergency (in which case the penalty is irrelevant) or you get struck by a game breaking glitch (which is unfortunate).
Why did you disconnect anyway? Why not just let yourself die on the hook? All you did was give the Killer bonus points and forfeit your own.

Do you mean Stranger Things: 1984? Yes. Netflix already has games it's apart of the Netflix App, and there is already a Stranger Things game on it. Doesn't mean BHVR can't get the licensing for Stranger Things as well. They both can have games for Stranger Things at the same time. There are a lot of reasons why BHVR lost the licensing for Stranger Things, but I doubt "because Netflix wanted to make their own game" was the reason. When Netflix could do that anytime even with BHVR paying for licensing.
You'll probably never know the real reason as BHVR doesn't speak publicly about their standings with licensing.
While it's true that we'll likely never know for sure the exact reason, the one Mooks mentioned does seem to be the most plausible.
I doubt BHVR broke the deal off. Why would they? They clearly have no issue paying for every other license to remain in the game, so its unlikely to be a monetary issue.

The Artist:
* Completely blackened irises and eyeballs (unnatural)
* Black liquid dripping from her eyes, forehead and mouth (unnatural)
* Dark mist dripping and emanating from her body (unnatural)
* Freakishly long and disfigured forearms and hands, made completely out of ink (unnatural)
The Trickster:
* A bit of blood on his face and chest (the same as any Prestiged Survivor and Killer)
* Yellow irises (most likely contacts as he had them pre Entity)
* ???
You can't compare them.
Take away the Trickster's bat, and he could easily pass as a Survivor wearing a Prestiged skin. He simply does not fit visually alongside the rest of the Killer's roster.
You could say the same about the Legion, but with them it's intentional (see their reveal trailer), and they wear masks regardless.
-
Not going to happen. The entire reason why Battlepasses in Video Games do so well is because of the FOMO aspect.
-
There's no confirmed cis Survivors. Every single original Survivor has been left up to interpretation, which is fine in my opinion.
On the other hand, I'd like to see a Homosexual/Bisexual Survivor, as at least two Survivors (David and Felix) have had mention of Hetero relationships, so it'd even it out.

No, the original Terminator is not an action flick.
The sequels were.
You keep saying this, and you're right that it has horror elements, but it's way more of an action sci-fi film then it is a horror one.
Incorporating a license because it has subtle horror themes is just opening the door to allowing ridiculous action licenses to be added in the future.

Stranger Things wasn't horror and we had that for 3 years
It's still at least got horror defined as a secondary category, much like Left 4 Dead.
The Terminator is an action flick through and through.

I don't get why they made the frosty eyes log in only. I mean, a lot of new players try this game and they miss out on a lot...
Imo, codes should never expire, especially the BP codes. The grind is terrible as is, so why make BP codes timed.
Not much point in having a grind at all if a brand new player can instantly get 10 million BP from the various codes given out throughout the years.

There's 40,000 players on Steam currently in-game. That's... average. Completely normal.
You want to look at charts? Look at how many players there was exactly one year ago.
Wow, almost identical to how it is now. It's almost like the game isn't losing players, contrary to what you say.
How about two years ago?
Again, about average. It's even more popular now than it was then.
There's a difference to a game becoming less popular, and a game coming down from a sudden and massive surge in popularity (which tends to happen during big content drops. The game's largest player count of all time was this June with the release of the Resident Evil chapter).
I don't see the point in this post. Steam probably has a much smaller playerbase compared to PlayStation and Xbox anyway, so the point is moot.

Some outfits end in strange numbers for some reason.
Such as this uncommon outfit for Jake that ends in a four instead of a zero or five like the majority of other outfits.
Here's one for Ace that ends in a seven.
-
Because it takes a decent chunk of time to set up a Boon totem (unlike Hex totems, which are set up by default), they can be snuffed out in under two seconds (unlike Hex totems, which take a minimum of twenty four seconds), cannot be defended by Survivors in anyway (unlike Hex totems, which can be defended by Killers interrupting cleansing Survivors), etc, etc.
Boon totems are not that good. Certainly not overpowered, or even meta shaking. They don't need to be nerfed any further, they already have several drawbacks compared to their Killer counterpart, making them a one time use will firmly cement their place in bottom tier of perks.

Backwater Swamp.
Boring gameplay and ugly aesthetic.

Considering the first disconnect penalty is five minutes, not fifteen, one gets the impression that you're not telling the whole story.

The characters aren't leaving. Anyone who already owns Nancy, Steve and Demogorgon (AKA most of the community I'd imagine) get to keep them. Only the people who haven't bought the game yet (and five and a half years into the life cycle, there can't be that many people interested who haven't tried it yet) will miss out.
The only thing we're actually losing is the map. Although Hawkins may be my personally least favourite of the indoor maps, it's still sad to see gameplay content being removed permanently.

I did always hope whoever made those characters made a third Yamoka. They are brilliant designs indeed. Yeah Oni is like that, especially when you can effortlessly 1 hit down with his kanabo.
We don't need a third Yamaoka. Spirit and Oni already have a very similar theme, doing it yet again is unnecessary and wouldn't be adding anything original.
There's so many untapped countries, mythologies and horror archetypes we could get representation from, instead of a third Japanese demon.
-
Because if the Survivor is the last one alive and the Killer knows they have a slim chance of unhooking themselves, the Killer has no reason to leave. You're just going to get smacked down the moment you unhook yourself because the Killer was waiting for you to try it.
It's a waste of both of your time, especially if the Survivor is petty and decides not to try to escape and instead sits there for the entire first stage.
Take the L and move on.

Online gaming brings out the worst in people. Not just DbD. These people weren't mentally mature and emotionally stable to begin with. No self respecting mature adult will rage and act like a baby over a video game.
An issue with entertainment media in general, unfortunately.
Look at any fanbase community of a popular band, movie franchise, novel series, etc. There's always gonna be quite a lot of jerkass weirdos.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm pretty sure that even as The Trickster his stage show included a lot of knife tricks and knife throwing? Plus, he used knives to carve up his victims, which is probably the more relevant part of his lore anyway for his power in-game.
Agreed that the name fits his lore fine.
Additionally, people also complain that the name 'Trickster' doesn't match his ability, but conveniently ignore how the exact same thing applies to the Nurse (teleportation), Doctor (electric blasts), Clown (nausea gas grenades) and Legion (run fast and repeated stabs).
-
People run the same few perks because they're the only ones that are truly viable at high level play, because the devs are scared of introducing new ones in fear of being called out for 'power creep'.
The constant complaints about Boon perks over the last few weeks is the best example. They're the first good Survivor perks introduced in literal years (Dead Hard was the last meta perk, added over four years ago), yet they got nerfed before they were even released because Killers were unable to adapt.
On the reverse side, Undying suffered the same fate (albeit a few months after release instead of before even coming out) because Survivors didn't want to actually have to look for totems instead of gen-jockeying.
The community is reaping what they sow. Can't have anything good on either side without the other massively complaining about it.
-
It should be downright illegal for your temper tantrums to have the potential to ruin the match for the four other paying customers playing with you.
You know, which you do every time you disconnect.
Grow up. DC penalties are necessary. If you can't be arsed to play the game properly, you shouldn't be allowed to play at all. Stop ruining matches for everyone because you're selfish.
-
People act like the game back in 2016 was more balanced and less buggy when the opposite is completely true.
The only thing the game did better back then was in atmosphere.
-
Most likely. I don't recall anything regarding that.
During the Anniversary event that was the case, IIRC.

Notch did literally nothing wrong, but that's a very different discussion.
On topic:
Are you in favor of the death penalty, or mandatory life-imprisonment for all felonies?
If not, then you probably accept that people have the capacity to be remorseful, and to change.
This is a cornerstone of the modern justice system - rehabilitation.
If you insist on ostracizing and persecuting someone in perpetuity, you make rehabilitating them impossible. And yes, this means that sometimes you will need to apply this to someone who is an utter scumbag.
>Notch did literally nothing wrong, but that's a very different discussion.

They need at least 1-2 in North America.
You happen to miss the two NA servers in that list then?
-
Because this community is full of hypocrites.
Survivors have had the same stale meta for years (the last meta perk to be introduced was Dead Hard, over four years ago), and Killers have complained about it for just as long.
But the moment the devs try to shake the meta up by introducing actually strong perks, the whining ensues and the devs cave in and nerf them (before they even released to the main build at that). Meanwhile Undying lasted for like five months before it copped a nerf (I personally didn't have a problem with it myself).
This does occasionally apply in the reverse by the way, just in case someone tries to get smart and "both sides" me.
I called it from the start. In a few weeks from now, people aren't going to be using the Boon perks because they're simply not worth swapping out a perk slot that could go to BT, IW, SB, DH, AD, UB, etc.
-
It's a Killer only challenge FYI, just in case you made the same mistake as I (and apparently a lot of people) did and spent a while looking for it as a Survivor.
-
I'll trade you RPD for any map of your choosing.
Seriously, I've gotten RPD like five times since the map came out four months ago. I know it was disabled for a little while, but that's still super unlucky.
It's one of my favourite maps in the game as well.
-
Clown's in a crappy position where he's somehow really boring and unfun to play against as a Survivor, yet simultaneously severely underpowered and not viable to play as.
There's no interactivity between his power and the Survivor in a chase. It's literally just 'throw down gas in a loop so the Survivor is forced to drop it sooner then normal'. Boring.
The introduction of his Afterpiece Antidote helped spice things up a bit, but not nearly enough because its usually not worth using it over his Tonic.
He falls into the same category of 'weak AND boring' that I'd personally put Legion and old Trickster in.
TL;DR - He doesn't need a nerf, he's already one of the weakest Killers in the game, but he does need some sort of power rework that actually makes him enjoyable to play as and against.
-
Nah. The execution on tormented Survivors is Pyramid Head's defining unique aspect. Otherwise, he's just a ranged Killer who can hit through walls.
-
Y'all know what desensitisation is, right?
Nothing is going to phase you once you've sunk dozens of hours into it. No matter how scary (or violent, or comedic, or whatever) a form of media is, it won't stay that way for you indefinitely.
The scariest movie in the won't elicit a response once you've watched it half a dozen times, because you know what's coming. The funniest TV show in the world won't get you laughing, because you've heard the jokes over and over.
You can try to make DBD as scary as you want, but it's not going to matter after you've played it for a while and gotten used to the gameplay. That's an issue with all horror games, let alone multiplayer PVP ones.
