90 Posts and I can only count strawman arguments. Sadly, this did not turn out to be a real debate. Might as well call it quits. Nobody has even tried to touch the most compelling argument against Self Care:

A REAL debate literally consists of opposing arguments. You don't want someone to change your mind you want people to agree with you, and like so many others on this forum, not agreeing with you equates to nobody being good enough.

The 'compelling' argument is YOUR view point. This isn't to say that the people who oppose you are right and you are wrong, but the fact that you call this a debate and then make a sweeping generalisation that every opposing argument is a 'straw man' argument, pretty much looses any credibility your viewpoint has.

If you just want to say that SC is bad and you don't like it, then just say it, don't ask people to 'change your mind' just so you can crap all over their posts because not enough people are agreeing with you.

This right here. The way things are now when playing solo survivor, is that 80% of the time I'm more scared of my team mates than i am of the killer, for several reasons.

At the end of the day i'll say the same here as i did in the thread about NOED apparently being a noob perk. Like it or not, it IS a perk and it will be used. You can point and tell me that I'm bad at the game and that won't make a damn bit of difference to me. I'm not here to impress people with my L33T skillz, I'm here to have fun. Sometimes it'll backfire on me and i'll get caught by an enterprising killer with nurses, tough luck to me. If a survivor wants to heal me outside of an obvious danger zone, i'll gladly let them heal me rather than use SC, but the odds aren't always going to be in my favour on that score.

So am I a noob for using them at purple ranks as I'm trying to hit redrank?

Uuuuummmm since my point was that neither perk is a noob perk....no?

To be fair, it should be habit for survivors to take down unlit totems to prevent NOED. So not having them lit up wouldn't be all that big of a deal. It would also give hex users a fairer chance instead of loosing their totems less than a minute into the game.

They still could lose their hex totem really early if survivors start cleansing any totem they come across. This is probably a bad idea and wouldn’t solve very much.

Yes they could, and as mentioned, people should be taking down unlit totems anyway to reduce the risk of NOED activating. But if the totems are all unlit then survivors cannot immediately zero in on non endgame hex perks which is pretty much what they do now, thanks partly to terrible totem placements. The goal wouldn't be to prevent survivors from deactivating a hex, but to slow down the process just a little. Most hex's like ruin are employed to slow down the game and as it stands now, most hex's are killed so quickly its ridiculous. Turning off the totem light won't be game breaking, it just buy's a little time.

  • NOED in my opinion is much like any perk whether you are killer or survivor. It is there to be used, simple as that. You can use it for an endgame build, use it to punish survivors doing their tbag Olympics at the gate or wear it on your head as a fashionable hat, i couldn't care less and neither should you if its working for you.

People will always find ways to complain about things, and then there are the people who believe you aren't good if you use a certain perk. Whether you believe these people are right or not is up to you, just as it is up to you how to play. Sod the rest, as long as you aren't breaking rules (REAL rules, not crap that survivors or killer elitists have made up) you play how you want to play, nobody gets the final say on that but you.

  • That was just the giggle i needed. Well done sir!

  • Meh, wouldn't really care tbh, if it was a perk then fair game, I'd learn to work around it same as any perk really.

Hag becomes viable, "nerf Hag" posts start coming in. It's the Circle of Salt.

Do what others have done, adapt. Half of learning how to Hag is learning how to make traps do that intentionally. If you're going against a Hag, expect traps to disorient you. Thats what they're designed to do.

Can you honestly tell me that if something like that popped up right next to you, you wouldn't react at all? You'd just tra-la-la through the forest and ignore it? No, you wouldn't. It would scare the crap out of you, especially knowing that a disfigured monster might leap out of it and eat you.

As for game balance, "oh, but she can teleport" isn't even valid. She can ONLY teleport to a triggered trap, she had to have predicted your movement and placed the trap in advance, and quite often she ends up facing the wrong way. The Nurse can teleport, the Hag only jumps between triggered traps.

EDIT: My Hag wants to be called "Hug" from now on.

I was trying to think of a way to word this, but yeah, you pretty much sum it up.

if you have a good sense of humour, you can be brutally murdered during a game and still have fun, provided you can appreciate those moments of drama.

    Yes, this!

I play in a 2 man swf, occasionally three, and we are not great, but it's still freaking hilarious because we do not take ourselves too seriously. I don't use flashlights because a) I'm crap and b) i have felt the pain of 4 man flash light teams and i won't inflict it on another killer. I suck at looping so i prefer stealth, and the only time i teabag is to say thanks for a heal from another survivor. This doesn't mean we don't try to play properly, but when we fail we don't don't stomp our feet, we just find the fun. Stuck on a hook with a camper?...Play hooked on a feeling down the mic. Get downed right before the gate?....sing all by myself as my team gets out the exit. Give marks for flips when one of your team gets hit, hum the mighty mouse theme when doing a hook save.

Ok I'm not suggesting that everyone turns the game into a comedy, but the point is, having a sense of humour and not turning every downfall into a personal attack alleviates the tension and does lend a perspective that doesn't make me immediately feel combative every time i post something on a forum even if i disagree with a post i'm replying to.

I have played killer less than i do survivor, but i haven't needed the 1k+ hours some people seem to think you need to express an opinion that might be valid. That doesn't mean i don't have sense to see some of the issues killers are talking about or perhaps understand from my own view point that these hot button topics are or are not as terrible as people say.

Gameplay experience is an individual thing, some people are going to have issues in some places that other people aren't, and if someone has an opposing opinion that you strongly disagree with, it's not impossible to get your view point across without turning it into a flame war.

But seriously, you do bring up a very prominent point that plagues the forums relentlessly and what is happening in this very thread only underlines your point. The us versus them mentality spills out and there is rarely a thread where opinions do not get ignored because someone hasn't spent enough hours on a certain side, or its just someone yelling 'KILLER/SURVIVOR MAIN' rather than taking the time to civilly explain why you disagree.

And then the thread eventually just degrades into full on verbal happy slaps

  • Oh for the love of god, can you two either f**k and get it over with or just go duke it out in a pit of jelly because honestly that would be far more entertaining than watching you two ######### at each other in what so far has been a fairly interesting and civil thread.

  • I could be wrong, and correct me if i am, but isn't the disorientation there to make up for the hag being slower in a chase than a majority of the killers?

    BUT MUH DS.
I still hate DS, but at least I can realise they're changing and making killer easier for those that feel they need >a little hand holding, hopefully some killers will feel less useless at rank one and wont force themselves >down ranks.

yea dude, by this comment you can really tell I support DS.

I honestly thought selective reading was the main staple that upheld most of these arguments.

The amount of times I have seen someone accused of the exact opposite of what they actually said, makes me think some people are literally clapping their hands over their eyes "Lalala i can't see it so it isn't real" just to try and get the last word in.

I personally don't really give a cats fart in a tin whistle about DS, I found it to be an underwhelming perk as a survivor, and i honestly don't see it as much as i expected as a killer (maybe a ps4 thing)

I mean people can play verbal tennis all they want i guess, but ignoring the truth just to get a dig in seems daft.

  • Survivor or killer I've gotten some pretty crappy messages, including death threats from one particular clown who couldn't take their loss with any amount of dignity. It is a little disheartening especially when you are a new killer, going up against 4 toxic players can be nightmare enough without having to deal with someone verbally throwing their toys out the pram at you when you actually manage a decent game.

It has to be doubly worse for the poor PC killers who have to put up with end game chat.

The compulsion to be mean little s***s to other people almost seems to be a ritual of the game so far and i haven't seen it so bad as i have here. Other people have suggested a salt mine for people who do this continually, i'd be behind that if anything could reasonably be done about it on the ps4 in the first place, such as reports meaning anything.

I kind of grit my teeth about it these days and move on, reminding myself of the few times where even as a killer, someone sends a nice message at the end of the game, i think that's the only reason i keep messages open, that and to send decent players on either side a 'well done, you creamed us!" or even a simple 'great game!'

  • Good luck. May your gens be explosion free!

  • psychopaths/sociopaths..really?

I like to keep it civil most of the time, but this is honestly ridiculous. I've heard of making mountains out of mole hills before but this is right up there with mount Everest.

This is a game, you got fooled in a GAME, and this has led you to describe a whole bunch of people who don't agree with your assessment as immoral, lacking dignity, trust, empathy and healthy minds.......who on earth do you think you are to decide such based on very limited information?

Your fixation on this event is unhealthy, and your knee jerk reaction to brand this person as sick?...well i hate to say it but its a little creepy.

Ok maybe it was a crappy thing to do, tbh i don't really identify because on the rare occasions a killer wants to farm, i'll go stand under a hook at the end and let them get their hook points. However you cannot make some pseudo psychological assessment based on an action in a video game, not one that is reliable, same as you can't make assumptions about a group of people who disagree with you based on a forum post.

I have no issues with you getting P.O'd at a killer for doing this, each to their own reactions, but your snap judgements are out of line and are based on minuscule evidence.

People don't lack the capacity to be decent just because they don't agree with you.

  • I'll be honest, i haven't had that much of an issue with leatherface. If he catches you out in the open, then yes, you are likely to end up as meaty chunks on his chainsaw, but if you're near any structure or map object, it gets harder for him to hit you without hitting one of those objects. You do have to pick your route as carefully as possible when in a chase, and quick corners can help you out as long as you're sure you aren't heading for a dead end, but i certainly don't think that makes him OP.

Aside from that one match when i spawned literally 2 feet behind him....

  • @Khroalthemadbomber said:
2.) All NOED Users are required to wear the frosty eyes heads on killers to alert the survivors they have NOED. If the killer does not have frosty eyes, they are not permitted to use NOED.

That is literally the biggest pile of bullpoop i have heard all day. Wait, are we missing an opportunity here....does this mean all survivors carrying DS must wear neon hats before they are 'permitted' to use the perk?

    No? Yeah didn't think so.

Also why would you want to be given the hatch? Nothing is more tense when you're the last potato on the map and you still have that damn thing on your head....desperately trying not to miss skill checks....its your third box....you can almost feel her creeping up on you. You get the stylish steel hat off!!!!

    "ROOOAR!"

    "Oh poop"

I love the pig for those moments, even if I'm cursing her name while legging it across the corn. Hatch smatch, either find it or the gates yourself or become piggies plaything, it's literally the point of the game.

  • I used to hate going up against the hag, mainly because most of the teams i solo'd with didn't seem to understand the crouch method.

Then i started playing hag.... Now I giggle to myself constantly as i place traps in popular looping spots, random exit routes and my favourite..in front of dropped pallets. Hag forced me to play strategically instead of marking up all the gens, and SWF forced me to play extremely strategically. There are still teams that wipe the floor with me, but there is something to be said for watching a looper teabag beside a dropped pallet, only to turn around and run into one of your traps 2 feet away, resulting in a hag slap to the face.....

I'm slowly building her up into a no-hex build that I'm dying to try out when it's ready

  • It's ultra rare and you have to get a hit to make it work, don't see it as being OP. Nobody enjoys being one shotted, but DCing over it is just pathetic, much the same as any dc excuse beyond irl issues or a crappy connection.

You throw those hatchets till your hearts content.....I'll be hiding over here though....

  • If my team was ######### and dies with three gens left to go , I'll go spin under a hook, why make the killer spend time hunting me down? Likewise, if my friend and i are in a game and two members dc (whether at the start or during game) we'll do the same, they got cheated out of kills so it makes sense to us.

Which is why its kind of upsetting to be branded with the rest when other survivors are twits. On the other hand, when we do this 90% of killers are indeed grateful. As i have said before, the non toxic survivors can do little about our toxic brethren, but we do what we can in the games we play.

  • Watching a Dwight trying to point out my hiding spot to a trapper, then watching said Dwight get flattened and me being allowed to run away. (He found me later and killed me, but the head start was pretty cool of him)

That one guy in an awesome team that flattens me. who can't win with any dignity and has to come find me to teabag........only to get a faceful of NOED.

Watching someone flip when being hit, can't count the amount of skill checks i have missed because this made me laugh.

Those few moments of confusion from killers when my team has been flattened, i don't want a 20 minute hatch standoff or i just plain don't want to make them hunt me down for an age. They usually find me on a hill or under a hook spinning, and its that few seconds of "Ummmm?" before they get the idea and squash my fool head, that always makes me giggle

  • Ok i will put this in simple terms.

No it is not okay when survivors dc just because another survivor did it. You screw over your team just as much as that other person did. That goes for Dcing when your downed, because you want to save an item or because you are loosing in general. If i get dc'd on to the point where the game is unplayable, i will go stand under a hook and spin, Why should the killer be screwed over either? And as mentioned before a good percentage of the killers will take pity on you, especially if you don't make them hunt you down for twenty minutes.

(And i appreciate these killers a LOT)

Dcing is NOT the same as lobby dodging, nobody looses bloodpoints, items or offerings. They are two very different things.

And finally no,it is not okay when a killer DC's, and in fact if you looked at another thread in this forum asking 'Which map do you dc on?' you will note a LOT of killers who don't like to dc. Yes it happens, but that doesn't make everyone happy about it and it doesn't mean 'killers are allowed to dc'

So no, you are not 'entitled' to dc. You can either make a good choice or a bad one. Entitlement does not come into it

Make of this post what you will, i play both sides and have no hate for either, but this is as honest about your question as i can be.

  • I never DC. As a survivor, i'm not going to screw over the killer just because i don't like the map, no matter how many lerys or meatplants I get.

As a hag killer, i roll with the punches because again, I'm not going to screw over the survivors who have already invested offerings and may end up losing their items too. I get it, some maps are awful depending on which side you play, but with each corn sprinting, vault looping, pallet teabagging game i play....I learn a little more.

Nearly every game has that level that makes you want to rage quit, you can either power through it and learn or give up, just don't expect too many people to pat you on the back and say "Yeah me too man"

I won't say Git Gud, because i'm an adult. But I will say that all maps have a learning curve for both sides, but nobody can force you to learn.

  • Only if you get the scream effect exactly like the Doctors every time you step on glass, a car part, pallet splinters, stinging nettles or sharp rocks. Or the alternative; an accompanying pair of flip-flops that give reduced running speed with a chance to fall over because you lost one mid chase.

  • The only problem i see with it, is since he was my childhood hero, is that I'd end up wanting to run up and hug him, getting my ass mori'd over and over.

Aftermath; I just got tombstoned....THAT WAS TOTALLY COOL!!....LETS DO IT AGAIN!1

I have to admit that i'm really pleased I was able to get adept huntress on my first try. I'm about to prestige her, and I'm just burning all the bloodpoint offerings I have stocked up. I figured "eh, why not try to get the achievement while I'm at it? Maybe I'll get lucky, or have a really good game."

Haddonfield. Not my favorite map as a killer, honestly. Anyways, game proceeds more or less like normal, someone broke my hex about 30 seconds into the match, and I had 2 full sacrifices right when the popped the fourth gen. Unfortunately for them, they screwed themselves. Two of the last 3 gens were in the middle of the street, close together, and the last one was in a house at the end of the street with that one basement that's easy to check from the street. You know the one, two stairs opposite in the basement, with the generator in the corner? That one.

Lots of chasing happened (and a mini shooting gallery with a survivor that got stuck on a roof with the window blocked). It more or less ended with me seeing the last one while carrying the other. Dropped her, downed and sacrificed the other one. I found the hatch first, and realized "Hey, if she bleeds out, it should count for the achievement"

    It did :3

    Well done!

No, that would be helping the killer. They could report you.
However, if you would try to enter that locker while being chased, that would be an unfortunate accident...

That's oh so beautifully simple and yet wonderful at the same time.

  • I've had this happen quite a few times as well, it's rather irritating to do all that work and end up with nothing because someone is throwing a tantrum.Same thing when survivors dc, hate that too, even when im on the same team, its a crappy thing to do.

I think i have only once or twice gotten anything when a killer has dc'd, the rest of the times i got no points and lost items i still had on me, didn't realise this was a console only thing.

  • I'd love a choice to kick the hook farmer in the face if they are in the killers terror radius while doing it.

If I'm being camped or patrolled, I don't mind staying on the hook till i die if it keeps the killers attention on me and not the gens being done. But i have lost count of the times survivors have literally run at me with the killer chasing them. I always find it funny when the killer punishes that action by going for the runner instead, they don't have to since the tactic isn't their fault or problem, but it does give me a lovely warm feeling inside.

  • Before this thread turns entirely into yet another childish bitchfest, saying the same damn things over and over again, i do agree with OP that killers should be given an option to opt out of swf, but not just by guessing, since i have had plenty of matches where we've all turned up together and we have certainly not been an swf.

There has been suggestions of other modes or the option not to do ranked play, either way, even as a survivor main i can see the sense in it if it's handled fairly for both sides. Honestly I'd stick to KYF if enough of mine played at the same time but that's logistically difficult.

  • I laughed hard enough that i startled my friend who subsequently misfired at the ceiling and got eaten by a zombie (share playing original resi evil)

    OINK!

  • I'd go for it if it were ever implemented. The amount of junk i'll never use such as anything to do with flashlights (Not a fan, plus terrible aim on console) is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure everyone has their own personal preference 'useless addons' they'd like to get rid of.

Before the survivors get all salty at the title, let me state this isn't the typical "wah they finished the gens before I could kill them" QQ. So first, let's address what I am referring to when I say "gen rushing" before we hear the typical, "there is no such thing" argument. Gen rushing is when survivors push generators hard from the beginning of the match and multiple gens are completed within a few minutes. This can be caused by the killer lacking pressure on the map or survivors ignoring everything in order to push the gens. As a killer, when I see 3 gens popped in a few minutes, I get a little frustrated and I think, "wow". As a survivor I think, "okay this is good, but I'll get worthless pips and no points." This is one of the reasons I don't particularly care to play survivor often. What fun is pressing M1 on a generator the entire match?

A very well thought out and respectful post and I thank you for it.

There have been plenty of threads offering additional objectives such as gas / parts for the gens or even finding a key for the gate once the gens are done. It would very much help the stagnation of the game if something was implemented. I'm a survivor main but I do recognise how frustrating a gen rush can be for a killer as well as the response of 'what else do we do?' from fellow survivors.

Also its worth considering giving killers new things to do, or at least new ways to kill. It would have to be something on par with hooking more than once and that ones a little harder for me to come up with at nearly 1am, but it bears thinking about.

Just my rambling two cents anyway.

The wiggle meter itself I feel should be removed. But thats just my opinion. It slightly bothers me that theres a meter there taunting "you can escape just keep filling me" then 10% of the way you're getting a shoulder piercing. But eh, whatever. I guess it helps when other survivors body block which is very rare from my experience on this game.

Ahhhh the wiggle meter, the proverbial carrot on a stick that never delivers. So man times i've been a gnats hair away from getting it all the way filled and boom, I'm swinging meat. I suppose its useful for tension, though body blocking makes me laugh, could you imagine the real myers with 3 people swarming at his feet?

I can't say i'd be sorry if it disappeared.

As for getting put up on the same hook, I place my blame the people who pull me down when the killers in range, because its always going to be a risk, and it grinds my gears when people do it. Wait for the killer to bugger off or go do gens if hes camping.

I do agree there seems to be an issue with hooks spawning close together, but don't feel they should reduce the amount.
