How would you fix the dc pandemic, just curious?
1: an escalating ban time starting at 5 mins, and increasing each time.
As it stands, as a survivor I can d/c a game, and get a new game almost immediately.
2: Give an incentive to use killers that are underused.
This will help (but not fix) the saturation of certain killers. Which will give the game a better feeling when playing a few in a row.
3: "Tough Game" incentives. Nothings worse then being a killer that gets rushed into getting no points, or getting hooked right after a bad unhooking. Give the people feeling these frustrations extra bp after the game.

Conspiracy theories at its best, worse than on Youtube.
Not really a conspiracy theory. A conspiracy would be like "They aren't fixing the d/c meta because every d/c gives them a penny"
I'm showing you verifiable facts. Steam charts shows the player loss, you can count 2 weeks back and see the DLC release is WAY TO CLOSE.
Honestly, people calling this a conspiracy theory are probably the same people that call CNN fake news.

I agree with you - some of these ######### just want a reason to complain, no matter what it is.
also @smokepotion
firstly - Doesn't mean anything when its licensed content
Second - I think this is the first time licensed dlc has been brought to us since the split from Starbreeze?
Third - Can you actually provide evidence of this? Not being something which relies on Subs and being a game that you can literally pick up and play at any time I don't think this counts or is valid
4th Didn't know/read anything about this anywhere - it was obviously so financially crippling they decided to release a dlc survivor to balance the books
5th apart from arguably point 4 this shows jack all
Thanks for the insight though - nice to actually see a well thought out post than some of the normal dross troll crap you see on here
Steam charts shows the 30% drop. You can see the peak players across a long period, it is currently lower then it was a year ago. That means they have shed a years worth of growth.
Here is the link again.
An ongoing analysis of Steam's player numbers, seeing what's been played the most.As for your rebuttal of my points.
1: Yes it does, all DLC was released the same way, this one is different.
2: They have not split from starbreeze, they still owe their creditor money.
3: This was my first point.
4: This was all over industry news, and even hit some major news outlets.
5: Releasing a paid DLC 2 weeks after a paid dlc, outside of your usual releasing, and after a clearly disapointing sale of the most recent dlc. (there was no uptick of players like we normally see, this is a very good indication that the dlc did not sell as well as others) this in itself is a major sign of trouble. Most companies don't milk thir playerbase like this, unless they are FTP like Path of Exile releasing cosmetics daily.
I can't convince you if you close your mind, but you can see the writing on the wall. it's just up to you to read it. I don't want a reason to complain, i want a reason to play my game again. Like fixing the frozen loading screen and punish D/cs so i can play a half decent game again.

@SmokePotion, sadly, I have to agree with you. The way DbD is being run is like it's a completely F2P game where their only income is from DLCs and cosmetics. That alone would make me believe the game was failing to draw in new players, so their only option is to get the cash from the existing players that already paid the MSRP in the past.
Of course, that belief becomes a conviction when one looks at SteamCharts. Dead by Daylight is declining in a bad way, and it isn't the normal seasonal decline this time. Even the latest DLC failed to give it the bump in returning player numbers that a DLC usually would.
Right now, I see this game as in a spiral. The player base was already declining, the recent DLC failed to generate a bump in returning numbers (and therefore, likely didn't sell as well), and now they've created this matchmaker fiasco, the DC epidemic, and a host of other issues, that are driving more players away as the 24-hour Player Peak for DbD continues to get smaller.
Ash is popular, no doubt. But I don't see that DLC reviving what they've already lost. Not with the issues still front and center in the game, and affecting game play across the board.
Take the above issues, add in the financial loss Deathgarden caused, and the lawsuit against Behavior for the mobile game mess, and it's looking fairly likely, at least from the outside, that they're in need of money on some level. Especially when you look at Deathgarden as an ongoing financial expense. After all, the game still has a full team working to basically remake that thing even as I type this.
Not only is deathgarden still around, they are still trying to sell it for 30 bucks a pop, with a 24 hour peak of 11, and an hour peak of 0.
And i know i mentioned this in my last post. But i really don't think Ash was a good way for them to get money. Sure, he's guaranteed to sell to survivor mains. But he's bringing in 3 perks, 1 of which is really strong, for which the killer side is getting 0 love to answer for.
I have a small hope that they will use the Ash addition to patch the broken loading screen and punish d/c's. So there's hope there for me. it's why i'm still playing a couple games every day. i have hope, i love this game. But it's like loving someone that's truly suicidal.
At some point you gotta accept you can't save them if they really wanna die.

@twistedmonkey said:
They would have been working on ash for a while to get the license, design perks and make sure the holders agree with it all.
Sometimes you need to remove that tinfoil hat.
well now. I'm about to show you a few things you might not be noticing.
firstly: Ash is being released less then 2 weeks from Plague. (13 days to be exact)
Second: This is the first time a dlc release date has EVER been announced. (we usualy have to guess which tuesday they want to release stuff on)
Third:The have lost 30% of players over 2 months. This is the entirety of the last years growth.
fourth: They recently lost a lawsuit against Bethesda for stealing code from fallout shelter to use in a game for Time Warner. read: I believe it was settled not lost, but still. they owe.
Fifth: Deathgarden, the sci-fi DBD ripoff they made, died badly.
These 5 points show that the company is experiencing financial strain. You are right, they would have been working on Ash for a while. So why now? Less then 2 weeks after we just got a new DLC?
To distract from the issues at hand, and bring in a fresh infusion of money.
edit: it's exactly 2 weeks. I forgot i grabbed plague the day after she came out. Ash is being released exactly 2 weeks from plague.

They have to take out cross-talk and allow the ability to choose to play killer, as opposed to the random-choice system them have in place like F13 used. Otherwise, I've no personal interest in Last Year, either.
That said, though, unless Behavior gets their crap sorted in the next week or two, I'm done here. I'll just remove it from my play rotation, and continue on with Overwatch, Paladins, and Realm Royale. The latter two just dropped their new Battle Passes today, anyway.
sorry, instead of fixing the issue, they are distracting people with a new survivor dlc that's not going to do anything but hurt the killer side of the game.
I honestly think i'm done at this point. I'm not playing my usual times. I just hop on for a game or two every now and again. And half of them are 3 survivor games. but they don't seem interested in fixing that, they are interested in selling us stuff to replace things they nerfed. (MoM replacing DS) They hotfix the the hell out of Auric cell problems. but ask them to fix a frozen loading screen when there's been 2 major patches since it started? They wont even confirm they are working on the problem.
ps: I just want to add that this ash DLC is the first dlc they have EVER given us a release date for. and it's a week or so after the last dlc. Clearly they need money for something.

I can't see how anyone could hate that map tbh.
you litterally just named why.
Good survivors use the see through wall to their advantage.
Plus all the corn.
and the infinate loops.
-
the hatch shouldn't open for a lot of things.
Like everyone escaping through a door. Clearly everyone else was able to escape, that last person doesn't need the hatch.
-
You tap the attack button while close to a survivor doing an interuptable action. Also, every killer can do this. but the spirit is the best at it (with nurse as a second)
It should be noted that the code around grabbing seems to be wonky. I have, many times, started the animation, only to have the survivor run off.
Another way to get grabs it to take Thrill of the Hunt and Ruin at the same time. Once you get alerted the survivors are working on a totem, you time your approach to get there when they are nearly done with the totem. Many survivors, including rank 1's, will try to finish the totem when it gets really close.

Indeed. And those exact thoughts have crossed my mind several times already. Especially since there was a post a week or three ago that linked to the deal Behavior made with Starbreeze to purchase DbD in its entirety, and it involved Starbreeze getting a huge chunk of DbD revenue until the purchase price was paid off. In other words, they are paying Starbreeze in installment plans from a majority of their sales revenue.
We can only assume that process is still taking place, since there was never a follow-up that stated they've "completed" the purchase and are finally free-and-clear from Starbreeze and that financial obligation.
So, take those payments to Starbreeze, the lawsuit, and the loss on Deathgarden, and it certainly lowers this consumer's confidence given the ongoing state of DbD.
This is where the makers of Last Year: The Nightmare should be kicking themselves in the ass. While the folks at this forum are die hard fans of DbD, for the average player that isn't and doesn't visit here, Last Year could have tried to grab them. Instead, they chose to launch on the Discord platform first instead of Steam. The game has been out for months with no fanfare and absolutely no Twitch presence. And that's what is allowing DbD to really hold on. For this type of survival horror, they're the only real game in town right now.
I didn't even know about the Starbreeze deal. Damn. I honestly hope they fix things, this really is the only game in town like this worth playing.
Last Year when it comes to steam?
I'm saying the same thing most people are. "Sure, if they take out the cross talk."

*0.005 seconds later another survivor alerts crows*
*BAH BAH BAH BAH BAH* over and over. It was a lot of audible clutter
incorrect. If that was the case, they would not have reduced the area it's effective as well.
Also, the fast popping of the crows was the entire point of the perk. If survivors wanted to avoid this perk it meant actually avoiding crows or taking the countering perk.
If fast popping of crows was TRULY the reason, then the cooldown would have been set to 1 second, or 1.5. No, instead they pulled 10m off the radius, and slapped a 5 second cd on it.
It's actually a worse version of whispers now, since people can easilly stealth it.

Unfortunately, a majority of players don't visit the forums, so they won't even see the revert announcement. Most players either play a game, or don't. And the numbers were already dropping, They didn't even get the normal boost for the DLC release this time. If this fiasco drove more players away to play something else, there is a strong possibility that they will be playing whatever other game for the next month or two, if not a lot longer.
I've seen games from much larger and experienced game studios completely screw the pooch on their matchmaking before, and drive a lot of players away. What I haven't seen yet is them fully recovering from it.
Behavior was warned about all this when the stuff was on PTR. They have no one to blame but themselves. This damage was self-inflicted, and whatever fallout is deserved. Maybe in the future, they'll actually listen to PTR feedback. They already had Deathgarden die at birth, they really can't afford to be strangling DbD right now.
Personally, I'm giving them one more shot at fixing this sorry excuse for a matchmaker. One more. If they can't do it with the next matchmaker patch, I'm just uninstalling the game and washing my hands of Behavior and their products.
You bring up deathgarden, which brings up another point to think about.
The companies financial health might be deteriorating.
Not only did Deathgarden die a sad death, but they just got through a major lawsuit after it was revealed they stole fallout shelters code and used it in the Westworld game (to the point that bugs that were in fallout shelter were in the Westworld mobile game)
makes you wonder if this is the only thing keeping them alive atm. And they are killing it.

25, 100 is just too low.
Using her wrong.
Puke on them during the chase and break them with your puke. With a yellow add-on it takes 1 half decent puke stream to break someone.
Keep in mind when they break they don't get the speed boost they would get from being hit. Then you hook them. If they choose not to heal themselves, then they are 1 hit for the match. if you can't take advantage of this, I suggest watching some good streamers, and see how they counter loops and win games as trapper at rank 1.

@Peanits said:
They're going to get progressively better. It was recently changed so totems could be placed closer to other objects without blocking the interaction, allowing them to be hidden in tighter corners where you can't see them from any angle. As of 2.6.0, there are now also additional LOS checks from survivor spawn points to ensure that totems do not spawn immediately in view of a survivor.
Over time, the more obvious spawn points are going to be changed. There are a lot totem spots to revisit though, and it's not always as simple as moving them slightly.
But ultimately if you are going up against a good group of survivors, they are going to memorize new spawn points sooner or later (if small game doesn't get them first). I wouldn't recommend relying on totems if you're not willing to throw on ToTH and protect them. The entire point behind totems is that you're risking a stronger perk that could be lost part way through the match.
The LOS checks are nice, but it seems to be pushing the totems to spawn closer together. And that's not a good thing. If i chase a survivor through an area, they shouldn't see all of my lit totems.
I'm still wondering whythey are lit in the first place? You could save yourself all of this coding if you just made them all dull.
Then you could even make a perk for finding them, call it "occultism" let it be an "anyone" perk, and let it show lit totems within 5,10,15 meters.
This would be a fair rework of totems. One of MANY i've seen floated. but probably the least heavy, coding wise. Definately less coding then your current choice of fixing the problem.
-
numbers are worse today then i've seen in a long time. but i have hope the lobby code reverting will help.
It's weird that my lobby times are better now then they were before. and there's less people playing.
-
this is still a good idea. doesn't matter if a different game has a different version of it. it would help so many killers, and do nothing but help the state of the game imho
-
How would moving in circles help? The tether has to be broken to remove the camping penalty. They could move back and forth just far enough to break the tether, but this action, in itself, gives the survivors all the chance they need to save.
This method of camping detection isnt meant to stop them from staying in the general area. There's killers that need to stay within the area to set up, like Hag. The current system is very unfair to them. Hags don't have the time they need to set up traps on the opposite side of escapes. And normal killers don't have the time they need to flush the area of survivors.
This method of camping detection is useful to stop face camping, pushing face campers to patrol the area, rather then stare as you die.
-
keeping this up there.

So easy to see that a Mod tried to say that the population is supposed to hemorrhage around this time, and I had to point out that this loss has gone on longer, and is far more profuse thenany other.
In fact, they have only had one other time of loss above 20% and that was a loss of 3k players over the course of one month.

@The_Crusader said:
"the survivors need x"
Lol. As a solo survivor I can tell you that for the majority of killers we don't need OP perks added.
What survivors do need is some things on the killer side taken away or adjusted. I.e NOED, iri head + infantry belt combo, instasaw etc
But no. Survivors (myself included) cried and cried for noed changes or at the very least having dull totems count towards lightbringer and notifications when dull totems are cleansed and the devs said "No, we're not doing it".
So instead they just add OP perks to the survivor side instead.
Now it becomes this "arms race" which they said they didn't want. Just like how it used to be NOED vs DS.
Nurse flying around the map with multiple blinks can be a problem yes. But for a typical Pig, Leatherface or Trapper without NOED there is no issue. Now those are the killers that are gonna ger boned with this perk. Which leads to people sticking with Nurse/Billy etc because they think it's needed.
Here's the thing.
Noed is a thing that needs fixed, sure.
But when you are talking about red add-ons, you are talking about something that can't be spammed every game.DS, MoM, and other perks can. Unless that Huntress has been saving those two add-ons for a few months, or plays like a streamer (8+ hours a day) Red add-ons are supposed to be OP. I'm not saying this doesn't need some tweaking. It should also be noted that the bloodweb needs a heavy rework too. But think of taking iridesent head and infantry belt as the same as taking a commodius toolbox, instructions, wire spool. Aka the ability to do most of the gens with one toolbox (fastest way to do gens, only way to be faster is to take mechanics with instructions and swivel sockets, and a swf team so you don't need to do much more then 1 gen) It's a bit to strong, but it's not something that can usualy be spammed. (well, at least yall get to keep your toolboxes after a game. I wish i got to keep my add-ons if i 4k or something)
And you don't need to be defensive, I could go back and screenshot the staff comments on my past posts that says the equivalent of "survivors need x" But that's kinda pointless. Anyone that's been on these forums long enough will have seen there attempt to spin bad designs.
-
Firstly it does only effect people that M1 which does suck however it isn't the new DS. DS gave you a free escape if you got downed.
You must not play at red ranks.
DS has always only given you 1 extra hit, sure there was the 2 second pick up time and a few seconds of walking and stunning to pad the numbers. But DS has always been a chase extender. All a decent survivor needs is this extra time to turn the first 2 gens popping into 3.5 gens done.
This perk really isn't needed. We finally got rid of the DS meta for extending chases. And now we will be getting this.
No thanks. I'm probably gonna be a much much more casual player from now on. I don't know ######### these devs are doing anymore. Its not balancing #########. They think survivors need this chase extending ######### when the gens get popped in under 6 mins vs good players.
And this is with a 4 minute wait timer as killer.
I've spoke with staff about the unfair ######### in the game, unfair ######### that people in higher ranks don't need, at all, so it only gets abused where i play.
The answer of the staff is that "the survivors need x"
I asked about Ds "survivors need a way to make chases last longer"
Ummm... pallets windows and map knowledge,..
I asked about the hatch being open when there's already 2 open gates.
"Well then the killer can patrol those two gates and the survivors cant escape."
well two things... first, no. I still gotta hit them twice, so if they are full health near an open door, and i don't have noed (which i don't use) it's done. Secondly, if the gates are open and the hatch is open, that means there (more often then not) has been escapes. Through the gate. Which makes this whole point moot to begin with.

In Identity V , its a secondary ability on 2min cooldown any killer can equip additionally to their own kit. It's my favorite secondary.
Though for DBD adding such a mechanics just for a perk seems kinda either lackluster or might become "oP wHeN CoMbInEd wITH bBQ". I like your proposal but... Im not sure of the community's reaxtion
I like the mechanic (heck they should just give killers secondary powers to counter "swf-level solos" in the future) but locking it behind a perk feels weird. I feel the devs would only consider giving this ability to a new killer with horrendous drawbacks.
When I thought it up, it's meant to be combined with bbq.
That would let the killer cross the map to the gen being rushed by 2 people to get a chase, letting the 4th unhook (or the one he doesn't chase from the gen if they dont feel like finishing that almost done gen)

Waiting for that "new content player count increase" peanut was talking about. Cause so far, it's peak is still below two months ago.
When you try to say things like "there's a small drop in the spring" it's clearly a spin. We can see the stats. The peak for the past 30 days is 26k. That lower number was last spring, and was largely over one month. The player base, while still in the red the next month, was on the uptick.
It's not on the uptick currently, the charts are pretty clear on that.
Look, I love this game, I don't want it to die. Consider me the annoying guy shouting about smoke so it doesn't become a fire.
-
I just looked, and it's kinda different. This would be something just for the killer. he would open it, step through, and then close it. That animation would be long enough to warn the survivors he's going to to put some distance, and give killers a way to get to these far gens.

Seems like an interesting idea, but could you give more description as too what it is that this invisible tether does?
It's exactly what it sounds like. An invisible rope that attaches to the point where the killer stopped moving. It just exists to measure distance, and insure the killer isn't facecamping.
edit: Here's an example.
Im a hag main. i hook a survivor, move to the middle of the jungle gym, and place a trap. This 2 second stop places a tether on me. i then have (X) Amount of seconds (where x will be a tested number not one i make up) to move away from that spot where i just stopped. Probably to set up another trap
-
It's a bit to big. Not stupidly so like some. But it's just a little to big for killers like hag and huntress to be really effective. Add into it it's not the most well designed.
Downstairs is an area that only opens after a gen is done. Going into this area is a deadend, except for a couple pallet loops..... Why does this exist, the survivors have no defense there until after the gen is done, when they leave. Who thought up that? this should be an alternate exit of the bottom level of the temple that has a couple pallet loops that become more useful when the ull path is opened.
-
I want them to, in order.
Fix the game freezes.
Fix the pip system (this is second cause: why bother pipping if you can't play a decent game?)
Rework of the Corn Fields maps.
An announcement of some sort of streamed community event. Whether that be a kind of tourney ( there are tourneys out there as it is) Or maybe a staff hosted KYF where a bunch of fog whisperers (like the ones they flew to canada) play in the same lobby. This would be fun to watch.
A vampire or Werewolf killer.

They should stop with the DLCs and go for quality instead of quantity. Why have 20 killers and survivors when none can be played optimally? Why would you level Jane or The Plague if you know you need at least 2-3kk bps to get the perks you want? It gets tiring. The grinding is even harder because 1 game out of 3 or 4 games, people DC or the killer DCs and that trial doesn’t count towards your growth because you either get stomped or you get no points.
I wouldn’t mind playing the same killer for a year straight if that meant there were no quality issues to complain about.
Yeah i hate starting with 1 underpowered perk, and having to grind a bunch of others before even getting a second perk to use in game.
Add into it it takes a month or so to perk out a new killer/survivor witht he perks you want them to use, unless you are lucky.
You should start with all 4 slots open, and all perks you have "unlocked" through grinding other killers should be available at rank 1, at level 1. So you can at least not get bullied because you don't have perks.

Punishing your Fog Whisperers that actively d/c on stream for whatever their reason. (lowering rank, don't like the killer, ect) Would be a great start to keep people interested. People see their role models doing something, and they do it. So if they d/c games they don't like, it spreads. I can absolutely, 100%, assure you this does happen.
A point bonus for being in the killers TR and not getting a chase started. AKA: A buff to stealth play. Sure it's fun to loop a killer. But it's also fun to slip by them unseen. Sure you'll have to clean up the chase code some, but that's needed anyways. The current you get in boldness is measely, and pointless. (i'de say a decent starting point would be to make the points grow exponentially. this will need to be tweaked to find the sweet spot, but it stops punishing stealth play)
How about a pip system that doesn't punish the killer for 1 hooking someone? Not my fault the survivors gen rush and leave the guy to die.
With that, how about a camping system that uses an invisible tether to see if a killer is moving near a hook (looking for survivors, setting traps, ect) or standing mostly still (face camping). Cause Hag is BROKE right now. And I hear trapper is too. I have a long explanation post on this idea available in the wishlist.

I made a thread about this the other day, before the content launch. We can see that the content launch peaked at 25k players. Which is still down from peak last month, and down from 2 months ago.
People will try to say it's a normal drop, but it's not. It's persisted for longer then most, and the cut in numbers is rather serious. (27% loss in numbers is a serious issue, no matter how you sugar it)
I've pointed out that a large chunk of this is that the game freezes on load to often. No one wants to play a 3 survivor game. Not killers, and definitely not survivors. So players will often find themselves playing other games. Why wait 3-5 mins for a 6-10 minute game, when the game might not even be fair/fun?
Add into it the introduction of Legion has caused a zeitgeist of D/cing. You can see streamers do it (Jendenise d/cs to lower rank on stream, and noob3 d/cs anytime he sees a legion) this gets their viewers to do it. As more games have people d/c, more people stop caring and d/c themselves.
Now it's not just Legion. People d/c vs any killer they don't like, killers d/c games they are losing pressure in, survivors d/c for a myriad of reasons (ie: they think they were tunneled even though they took bad pathing? d/c) I'ts getting hard to play a decent game of DBD in the current D/C meta.
