  • Look, I can't imagine a killer enjoying a 5 minute match, and scraps for blood points.

If you blow through the generators and don't allow for the killer to have any fun, there's going to be a reaction.

Am I saying it's right or wrong? No.

Am I saying everyone should try and make the match fun? No

    I'm just saying.

I don't know what you expect. Just to let you go? Killer goes off and stands in the corner of the basement?

Survivors hate it when their game is made short by the killer, the killer hates it when the game is made short by the Survivors.

I first got this game back in March of 2018, and I loved it. Everyday after school or for hours on weekends I would play it and enjoy it. So much so that I've put in almost 800 hours. Not much when compared to a lot of people but still, that's a lot of time for me to put into a game.

I've been on and off with Dead by Daylight since Ghostface was released. I stopped playing for a good while, and then when Deathslinger came out I started to play again. I would play for a few hours. But less so than when I started.

I got a lot done, getting all the unlockables for killer, and all for survivor, even maxing out my main survivor. But I started to feel burnt out and started playing less.

I havent played for even an hour since before the blight came out. I bought the Rift pass and was determined to complete it, but everytime I sat down to play I didnt have any motivation to play.

I played a few games earlier this week and somewhat enjoyed survivor and had fun as killer. But I still don't feel motivated or feel the need to hop on and play. I really like this game, from watching people play it, to just drifting through the forums and reading about things. Any recommendations as to how I could get back into the swing of things?

I feel you on this so much.

I was about to get into playing again during, but not because of the blood lust test and watched some tru3, Otz, and Umbra, went to the forums, and saw what I'm likely to go against since broken matchmaking and SWF drove me away before.

I did ok as survivor, but I like killer more.

I hope what ever helps you helps me, too. I don't like many pvp games but I like this one.

  • Rank? Nope.

    Git gud? Nope.

I want to collect everything I can. Perks, holiday stuff, killers, survivors. There's some things that gnaw on me that I'll never get like Huntress dog mask since I'm year of the dog, myself.

I'm a pretty mellow player as long as I feel like I've gotten a fair shake, which isn't likely with current matchmaking and swf. The main reason isn't that I get stomped, it's that any blood point gain under 10k before add-ons and perks seems like an absolute waste of time. Feels worse if it's after that.

  • Just this looming, and often far too correct notion that even though I let my rank drop taking a break, I'm going to run into bad matchmaking throwing my casual, non-meta butt in to a match vs smurfs, SWF, red ranks, and people I generally have no business going against.

I'm not great at the game. I refuse to believe it. I should be pitted against people who aren't great at the game. If I'm better then I'll hold back, or feel bad I didn't, usually. Good luck getting that sort of mercy from survivors.

It's not entirely that they will likely stomp me because I'm not interested in investing to "get gud" when I don't want to play that advanced, it's also the simple fact that I will end up with crap for blood points. I usually like running thrill of the hunt, and Beast of Prey (I don't have BBQ. Thanks to the sale I just got bubba to invest points into) in order to get bonus points.

You know, then stuff I need to get the perks people think I should have so I can be competitive. Really annoying people recommend perks I don't have.

I gotta feel like I'm making progress, and not wasting my time in 5 minute matches. That's fun. Progress.

Let's be honest, holding m1 on a Generator with different skin isn't technically a new objective, it's just the same thing but fancier, like those halloween flowers.

It's the original second objective! Haha

I know, I get it. It's not thrilling, but it's Dead by Daylight. They're not known for making more mini games or adding new buttons. I don't know what's expected. They have the crown, lantern, and other stuff but I don't know how much time that could buy a killer.

It's something to just expect and try to adapt for since it's going to be common. Probably a common ground killers and survivors have. Dbd gets "fixed" through perks sometimes.

  • Because, overall, it's a lie when survivors say they want a second objective, apparently?

Even still, they can try to power through it, and/or not leave the gen.

  • If you know where the spirit is while phase walking, what makes her any better than Wraith?

Or Legion? People hate playing against legion.

  • I'm not sure what advantages she would have over the wraith if you knew where she was when she's near by.

  • So you're asking killers to put themselves in a position where they can make even fewer mistakes, and allow survivors even more room for error?

You know killers need every second they can get, right? They're the ones with an invisible timer running based on how efficient survivors are, you know.

  • New feature!

    Fixed match making!

I'm a casual player that loves the game. I'm not looking to "get better" or go pro, or face the best people.

I want to go in, chase people, hit people, hook people. Maybe sacrifice some people along the way. My main goal is to get blood points, and have fun running the killers and perks I want, and basically none are meta. I hate cookie cutter stuff.

If I can help the survivors get blood points, that's cool, too.

Not in a farming way, but by playing the game with lots of interaction in a more or less normal setting.

If I accidentally use more force than is necessary, I may well pull punches, and let survivors go, even. Hell, sometimes I just go in and try to get my daily done, and let people go.

    I don't want success, I want bloodpoints.

Sort of a humble, low level boogieman.

I play survivors, too. I love my Nea, Kate and Feng. Looking forward to getting a few more survivors, too.

I would really love it if I didn't run into killers just looking to "wham bam thank you ma'am" for a quick match that destroys my BP gain.

On more than one occasion, I have let killers hook me if the game went to hell for them.

This is a spare time game for me. Not a job, and not a skill I want to cultivate.

    I don't like running into people I shouldn't.

This game would probably take off more if newbies didn't run into people they shouldn't, too. Give them some room to breathe, get better, and actually get the perks they need instead of throwing them to the wolves on either side.

Get match making running well, please. I have money I'd love to throw at you more often than I do now. There's few games I buy more than once, and even fewer pvp games I enjoy because other people have a tendency to ruin them.

  • It's the fabled second objective people say survivors should have so they have more to do than gen rush a killer.

It's not fun? Neither is being gen rushed. Especially with multiple toolboxes. Neither is 5 minute games, and walking away with less than 10k bp. Survivors do a lot to kill the fun for killers.

It buys killers precious time to actually get to play the game against sweaty teams.

People complaining It's too strong for solos, well, most every match for a killer seems like Russian roulette if it's an swf, people too strong, or not. Maybe if killers knew ahead of time, they might back off a bit so they can run other builds.

But it's also kinda good for survivors. I mean it's 2 entire perks dedicated to making sure the game lasts a while.

It has counter play. Jen jockey, small game, detectives hunch, maps, swf. A killer has to spend 2 perk slots to adapt to people that want a 5 minute game, and buy a dlc character or wait for it to be on the shrine. "Git gud."

If they want to add it to another character? Plague has to be lvl 40, and there's RNG of the blood web.

People that believe perks shouldn't bandaid problems, well, here's a prime example of it. And it's a problem that's basically always existed. Survivors can deny the killer time to play the game because gens can be rushed.

  • Instead of a gender swap Pyramid Head, can we just get his sister, Triangle girl?

    https://youtu.be/xfsAvRcgEYY

  • I'm not picky, but I want a killer to be -scary-.

Not necessarily with their appearance, or license, but with their ability to chase, and hunt.

Honestly, it's hard for a killer to exist and be scary all on their own.

I want a killer that survivors dread being in a chase with, and will run for their lives instead of teabagging, and looping forever, or hang around once the gens are powered, but not to the point the killer is OP. A survivor can delay being caught, but they generally will be quick enough to help prevent being gen rushed while chasing.

A killer that makes people want to hide more instead of wear bright clothes and taunt cause they know it's not a winning strategy.

A killer that's scary not for what they are, but what they can do.

Ohmigod, are you me? That's pretty much how I feel, except I'm stupid enough to let the Tome challenges/Rift bring me back when I take a break. I'm a casual player. I don't have it in me to be a hardcore super-competitive player, that's just not me. The game really needs to get its crap together with matchmaking. I'd like a challenge, but DbD is terrible at putting the right players in a lobby to create a match that's a fun challenge for all involved. So, I ping-pong between putting up a fight and playing super lazy/meme-y in an attempt to create a balance for myself that the game is so far incapable of achieving on its own.

Sometimes I wonder if people like us are the majority, but just don't speak up as much.

There just can't be massive amounts of suddenly good players.

So there has to be plenty of people like us if they stick around, just getting chewed up by bad match making, and smurfs.

Like you, I don't mind challenge, but I want to feel like I got a fair game in the process. SWF has already put a deep anxiety into my killer games.

If I play survivor, it's solo only. I'm too casual to have a ring of friends, and having been on the killer side, I feel pretty lousy even considering SWF. I would like to treat people in game the way I want to be treated.

If SWF were actually balanced, this concern would probably go away.

Most of my killer games is wanting to get BP, chase, hook some, and see how it ends.

I actually use Beast of Prey just for the BP bonus.

  • Was thinking about getting back into the game during the weekend, but seeing so much... this, kinda killed it.

It's why I left ages ago to begin with. I was continually going in over my head because matchmaking doesn't give a crap that I'm a casual, and need other casual players.

I don't want to steamroller other players, nor do I want to become their plaything.

Watching tru, and otz dealing with what this likely results in, I just don't need to endure it. I'm a nice killer. I don't or can't play meta, and I don't deserve it.

I'll never be as good as they are, and I don't have the arsenal for it.

Seeing the Blood Lust test just widen the gap making less room for killers to screw up, and more room for survivors to screw up when you have to rely on the survivors to make mistakes didn't help much either.

And it's annoying because I still love the game. It's rare I have any affection for a PVP game since I hate dealing with other people, but yet here we are.

I just gotta wait for it to be a lot closer to fair. Haha

Sorry, I just had to rant, and get this out of my system.

  • Basically useless.

You have to consider one huge thing:

How long it takes to down a survivor by hitting them twice. The longer that is, the larger the safe range is for escaping survivors.

In other words, there is a zone where it's impossible to stop a survivor from escaping unless they screw up.

It's the distance needed to down a survivor.

This varies from killer to killer, and the player, but it's pretty damn big in general.

NOED is designed to take that into account by allowing exposed status. It cuts down on that safe zone. The killer only has to catch up, and hit once instead of twice.

  • It all comes down to your fun.

If you have an SWF killer loadout, and like using it, go for it.

If not? It's probably more trouble than it's worth.

A lot of people saying take the challenge are probably the former, not the latter, or are people tired of being dodged.

SWF is different when you have a hundred purple mori saved up, solid killer addons, and/or the right perks than if you don't have the ideal setup.

  • Usually when a killer gets shut down hard.

If a killer is goofing around, or something, or seems friendlier than most, etc. I hate it if they don't get the BP I think they should.

  • Part of the issue with SWFs is they impact people differently, and people don't recognize that most times.

It will not be the same for a veteran that has every perk at rank 3, and enough bloodpoints to do the same almost instantly for any new killer as it will be for someone who plays less and has a random assortment of perks that aren't all rank 3.

Naturally it will be easier for the former, and harder for the latter.

  • The prestige outfit?

You have to hit lvl 50, prestige, and do that 2 more times

  • It's not really supposed to be a weapon, it's there to help with the epidemic of people staying in the gate room until they get hit out, running back in to find the hatch, going to hide somewhere because the killer offended them somehow.

Basically the entity wants it's noms and is tired of waiting on survivors.

  • I like how the new endgame is sort of a big middle finger to lingering survivors, and looks like a big middle finger killing them.

  • No. I do not like sprint burst because one tap of the button and you waste it. It could be costly.

  • It would be interesting! Sort of another layer of the horror of the unknown!

Maybe kinda tweak powers some for each killer?

Instead of the hag throwing hatchets, she throws her claw arm to reel in survivors?

    "Get over here!"

  • Lol

Why is it survivors seem to always want to hide stuff from killers instead of balance?

  • Srs, killers need some of this:

    https://youtu.be/qmxtazn18A8

  • Huntress hatchets still iffy going over waist high stuff, and near corners, and what not?

  • Doctor told everyone how to give prostate exams. The killers are just being nice.

  • I like the huntress. Her power set doesn't demand much, except hatchet hitbox fixes so I can throw over waist high stuff reliably. She's the killer that drew me into the game initially.

Spirit, I like. She's a potent force, and stylish.

Susie is up there, too. I like her in super villain colors. Not a huge legion ayer, though.

I like pigs style. Haven't done too much with her, though.

  • Kinda weird to expect a survivor to blow their escape plan like that.
  • I'll struggle on the hook as long as possible to waste the killers time. Or try to get the last survivor killed. I see you, crouched, hiding, doing ######### nothing most of the match.

I won't give survivors a chase/hit out unless the match was fun for me, or I'm trying to let them go coz someone DCed early, or bad connection, or something.
  • Nothing would get done on that level except a horse that feels appreciated, and loved.
  • This isn't new. SWFs have done this for ages to make sure they have a ringer to play big brother and make killer games hell. Or they don't want to pick on a killer their own rank.
It's part of the reason SWFs get so much hate.
They don't even have to derank this way.

Current matchmaking has gone even more pear shaped with it.

There's no point in dodging lobbies. Here's why:

By dodging lobbies until you get one you like or feel comfortable in you are making ranking up too easy. Since ranking up is now too easy (as if it wasn't easy enough) you will quickly reach a high rank with a long wait. This long wait will make dodging lobbies less worthwhile as you will start spending more time in the lobbies than in the actual game.

Whereas I, who haven't dodged, will have good games, and bad games and more bloodpoints than you who chose to dodge. Furthermore, I will eventually get to a rank I belong at and you will simply get so high in rank that dodging becomes meaningless as all games will now be against spooky swfs.

Besides, you can make good banter post game.

Ex: Earlier today I started a lobby and waited for my survivor opponents. When they all joined I saw not one, not two, but three flashlights. I glanced at my perks and found that out of the three flashlight counters I only had Lightborn (and it was tier I.) So I just said to hell with it and had a mediocre game. I didn't get a single kill. Later in the post game chat I told them I had no real good counters to what they were running and just said "The game was rigged from the start."

Was it fun for me? No. Was it fun for them? Probably. Did we all get bloodpoints? Yes.

So regardless of who the survivors are I say play ball and give it your all!
Except it's entirely possible for a sweaty SWF to have killers make less than 10k BP, so there's absolutely nothing in it for me worth putting up with the headaches.
I can have a far easier, more fun time getting slaughtered by a killer, thanks. It's even less time wasted, too.

I don't play enough to rank up like that, so no danger there, either.

I just want a solid chance for a relatively fair match in the odd instances I get to play.
Win or lose, if all that was involved is what is in the game, I'm ok.
That means no mid match communication.

The SWF is counting on you not having good counters.

We need to nail down why people dodge.

Well this is what we agree on, and that is why we should be asking the right questions to BHVR.

Will the devs know that there's people looking to obviously bully me, or gen rush me when I dodge and they start handing out punishment?
    Not likely.

Correct!... Not likely. There is no way for BHVR to know the true reason why you would dodge a lobby.

So with that said. Do the developers believe, if the killer determines that a SWF group is in their lobby, that this and ONLY this is valid reason to dodge?

If the answer is NO. Then if removing the profile lookup and names from the lobby fixes this, do you think the Devs might do this when dedicated servers come out?

So right now... Lets separate what we are considering reasons.

    Dodging for SWF in lobby...
Dodging for certain items in the lobby...
Dodging for bad ping in the lobby...
Dodging for certain characters in the lobby...
Dodging for certain players in the lobby... (i.e. certain streamers)
Then dodging for anything else... (Whatever other reason no listed above)

I'm only talking about 2 major issues that I see when dodging...

Dodging for certain players... i.e... seeing a certain streamer player you don't like playing against.
Dodging for SWF... If the only reason for dodging is SWF.

The other ones I feel are valid.. And what is probably referred to when the Devs say it is ok. (my assumption)

Nailing down what the Devs want the killers to use as valid information for dodging a lobby is important if the discussion is to continue.

The thing is, it seems like you're wanting to prevent dodging by removing the clues killers have, which will force them into matches they are not likely to enjoy, or leave the game.
Again, that won't be a good thing. Killers will leave the game over non stop bully matches, and the game will die.
Survivors will know what they will be walking into as a killer, and wouldn't touch killer, if they ever would.
We see that kinda nowish. Some survivors cross over to the killer side, and experience the bullshit in person.

No, SWF isn't the only reason people dodge, but I can only really speak for myself.
There's a laundry list of why people dodge, and that list will only get stronger as the game offers less clues.
A variety of items don't bother me. Don't care about immersed Claudette, or much of anything. It's in the game, I consider it fair. Mid trial chat isn't in the game, so I'm gunna avoid that. The main culprit is SWF.
Hell, I wouldn't be too bothered by items if I knew it was 4 solos. I'd take that chance.
But I know there are people who would dodge that.

I'm pretty sure we both know the main, and minor reasons people dodge.

I can see why people would dodge streamers. People may not like being publicly humiliated, or deal with "streamer privilege.

Pretty sure the Devs said dodging is ok.

True... but... However, I believe there is a limit to what can be considered ok.

Maybe we should be asking BHVR a couple simple questions...

"Does BHVR condone killer players dodging a lobby when that player determines, specifically, that there is a SWF group in the lobby?"

"What information does the Developer actually believe the Killers should use, when determining, if they want to accept the lobby?"

Rather then trying to debate little issues of if something might happen or not... Maybe we need to nail down what the developers actually want Killers to see when determining if they accept the match or not.

Is there a Dev out there that wants to clear this up?

No, I do not agree at all.

If SWF, somehow, could not use mid trial communication, then we might have far less dodging. Sadly that genie is out of the bottle.

We need to nail down why people dodge.
The root of it all is that the game isn't fair to killers. It just isn't.
It doesn't matter how often it gets bad, and that changes from person to person as perk unlocking actually varies from killer to killer.
It's like randomly loading several revolvers, handing them to several people, and telling them to play solo Russian roulette. Maybe being nice enough to let them pick what bullets they get to use.
Some will be luckier than others.
It can happen, and it probably shouldn't.

Yes, I know certain situations make it hard for survivors, like purple addons, and moris, but those are supposed to be rare. If people have a lot, it's because they do not use them normally.
Ever play an RPG and say "I'm going to need that health potion later. I won't use it now" and yet you beat the game never using it?
It's sort of like that, but killers are needing those potions in the form of "op" loadouts thanks to the unpredicted consequences of SWF.
Hell, I don't have a killer I like playing with an ebony, or ivory.

If I see 4 toolboxes, or 4 flashlights, the general advice would be one of 4 things.
Run Franklin's. But I don't have that perk. Like at all.
Run lightborn. I only have that on one killer I don't like using. That is out.
Play them anyhow. A crazy idea. No.
    Dodge. Ok.
Some would say it's not their problem, but the ripple effects say otherwise.

Will the devs know that there's people looking to obviously bully me, or gen rush me when I dodge and they start handing out punishment?
    Not likely.
Considering how often this happens, plus SWFs (I don't out pace rank reset since I don't play as much as I used to), I will be dodging a bit more than most.

The idea, on my end, is to do better with match making.
The rituals sort of have a system going. I don't get asked to do anything with Myers, Freddy, or Bubba because I don't have them bought.
It knows which of my killers have a mori (cypress. Lolz) when it asks for killing by my own hand.
It adjusts to what I have in terms of challenges.
If matchmaking could do the same, we would have less dodging because the killer can be confident they won't be completely buttfucked by the system.
That means less bullying all around, but that's not why people play, is it?

1 2 3 4 5 … 33
