Behavior has repeatedly failed or made this games matchmaking worse with every change they make. Make a ranked and unranked game mode, remove SBMM and you will get your player base back. The new SBMM is absolutely and undeniably awful.

That is a terrible statement and helps no one

    Introduction:

As you may or may not know, there was a Q&A yesterday, where Patrick (lead game designer), Peanits (community manager) and Justin (product manager), answered questions that were asked on twitter and on the forum by the community.

I want to specifically react to Patrick's claim that basing MMR on hook state as well as escape/kill could break the system and maybe put an 8h 0k in the win category.

And since i do nothing with my life had some free time, i tryed my hand at an MMR system based on hooks as well as k/e for killer only(imo the easiest to implement with hooks).

Before i begin i want to say that i am, in no way, a game developer, or a game designer, so everything mentioned here come from the point of view of a player and may contain some idea that are extremely difficult/impossible to do.

    explanation:

I think we can all agree that, for killer, while kill and escape are the biggest factor to decide how well you did in a game, we cannot accurately determine a player skill through k/e alone.

My idea was change the yes/no that is currently in the game with escape/kill and add a With as variable that change the point gain depending on the hook state of the survivor.

Concretely, each new hook state is given a certain value that will be added to the point calculation at the end of the match.

    Values + calculation:

Here is a list of all the variable that are present in this MMR along with the value that i decided, with the counting at the end of the game (no camping):

Escape: -10 if the survivor escape, 0 otherwise

    Hatch escape: -4

    1st hook: +2

    2nd hook: +2

    3rd hook: +6

    So if the survivor:

Escape with no hook: -10 point

    Escape with 1 hook: -10 +2 = -8 point

    Escape with 2 hook: -10 +2 +2 = -6 point

    Is sacrificed: 0 +2 +2 +6 = +10 point

    Hatch escape with:

    0 hook: -4 = -4 point

    1 hook: -4 +2 = -2 point

    2 hook: -4 +2 +2 = 0 point

In the case of a disconnect or a suicide (attempting escape to force 2nd stage, as well as failling skill check in struggle phase), all points related to said hook stage will be given to the killer.

    Conclusion:

With this MMR system, escape and kill are still the deciding factor of the game, but you will lose less point in case of a 8h/0k since having 8 hook is still a display of skill, but will change the rare scenario of 10h/2k from a tie to a win for the killer.

The goal of only counting new hook stage, is present to disincentivize camping behaviour by making them gain less point for such gameplay, that way, a camped survivor will only ever grant 2 points to the killer making even a 3k/1e a loss (-4 points) in those situations.

The obvious flaw in this design is that a killer could lose points if the survivor decide not to save each other, making you unable to earn all 10 points in those cases.

I did my best to try and explore most scenario that could be make this system bad/less effective. Feel free to point out any mistake that i may have overlooked.

The Answer is NO !!! That would make Dead by Daylight a farmfest, and no one wants that, and it would be a disaster. Sorry

nope sorry, it was proved a long time ago that this issue happened...when there was a way to block players, and good players struggled to find a game.

Guys please..... mandy is right. I also know there was a way to block players back then. Good players then had the absolute aftermath. It's just like the DC penalties. You can see the difference immediately and many players come up with the craziest excuses and explanations even though they know full well they are abusing the system.

And most flashlight clicking or teabagging happens at the end of the game anyway. Please, enlighten us all how there can be a gameplay advantage to being annoying whilst standing at the exit.

"There is nothing wrong with trying to make the other people playing the game mad if it gives you an advantage"

I think what people have a problem with is that Dead Hard does 2 things in 1. Whereas all the other exhaustion perks only have one thing going for them. So they should either remove that much distance gained or remove the invincible Iframes that negate a lot of killer's powers. It simply does too much to warrant just one perk slot.

    This is absl. correct !

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2744862#Comment_2744862

I didnt say start tunneling/camping for fun. Dbd has always had mixed feelings on win conditions. I count a win (in my book) 3k or better unless specific situations occur. Reason why i consider my Legion game a win was because i played fair, got 10 hooks, on Haddonfield, with worst killer in game. Mmr dont work anyhow so no one should be worried about it except maybe (MAYBE) survivors. As since a lower mmr means lower IQ team is more likely.

I know you didn't say that and it was meant ironically. A 3k is great and no one says anything. Even a 2k and enough hookz I personally count as a win, but not if you played well and then all survivors escape and you know.... now i get mmr deducted as a reward even though i played well. You're right, I should focus less on mmr. Still I can't stand the thought "you lost" even though you gave it your all.

  • @chargernick85 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2744836#Comment_2744836

I could care less what mmr thinks of my game. I know a 10 hook gm on haddonfield with legion is a win. Great BP, multiple kills, and a pip. Losing mmr is just icing on the cake. You seem wayyy to worried about a number you cant see. ######### cares bro.

I'm glad to see that you can say for yourself that it's a win. Unfortunately, the facts say otherwise. But maybe you're right, I really should worry less about the MMR and just start playing the way I like it and not the way the survivors like it, after all I'm playing killer not butler for the survivors. I'm going to practice camping and tunneling a bit, see how it feels. thanks

  • @chargernick85 said:

I get where you are coming from...I literally just got t-bagged by 2 survivors at gate in a 10 hook game on haddonfield with ######### Legion. Worst killer in gm 10 hooks on haddonfield without tunneling and you think you won?

On the flip side perks are in the game to use. Cant shame people for running perks that they did not create. Its not survivors fault the ######### is broken so focus your hate to the people responsible.

10 hookz on haddonfield, gj but It doesn't matter how many hooks you have or how well you played. Every survivor that escapes, automatically means -mmr for you and if more than 2 escape, you've lost the match. Knowing this is not very motivating but that's just the way it is....yes it is what it is but nobody can't tell me that's fun in the long run.... Anyone who says that is lying. Sry

right, I should camp everyone and tunnels away then I have really much skill and then also does not need to get better. Thanks you have saved my day 😉

You don't want to be high MMR... Like what does it give you? You don't see it anywhere. You just get better survivors, or at least survivors that try to win more. You sure you want that when you want to be fair?

You are absolutely right and I agree with you 100%. But for me, it's not about a high MMR. For me it's just about: you try hard, make a lot of hookz and give it your all, but in the end you don't get a kill. Then you get MMR deducted as a reward for your effort and that's demotivating, even though you played well.

  • @Shaped said:

So using a perk is abusing it? Using dh for distance makes perfect sense. Can we stop shaming people for using playstyles and perks as long as they are not bm'ing and being rude during the match?

Someone using noed (or whatever killer perk) or dh doesn't make them abusers. Don't demonise people just because your ego got hurt and you "lost" in unbalanced game where most of the things are rng or broken or both anyway.

Some people are just playing the game and using things that are available in it.

That's exactly what you were speculating about, isn't it? You were waiting for me to explain to you what exactly I meant by DH abusing or? You knew what I meant from the beginning and now you act like you don't know and then give your opinion. Of course DH is abused to create distance and at least 90% of the time. You don't need to downplay it because there are enough threads about it here on the forum. But that's not what this post is about and I don't want to digress from the topic. What I have a problem with is: you play fair, focus on having fun, and still get punished with a negative MMR when survivors escaping even though you put effort into the match. Where's the sense in that?

  • @Dino7281 said:

Since when is negative MMR punishment? It's a reward...

    a reward ?, for what ? 😂

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

Negative MMR is a positive because you are able to play as fair as you want at lower mmr. Like???

That´s true. If you enjoy playing on lower MMR then congratulations

using DH for distance, not for protection

    @Laluzi said:

Negative MMR isn't a punishment when you're a killer. It's absolutely a punishment on the survivor side, though.

That said - I 100% agree that this game does not incentivize killers to play nice or interactive at all. The current meta reinforces that at double strength (split pressure doesn't work, so commit commit commit), but it's been true for a long time. Games go too fast against good survivors not to play hard, and if you don't get rid of someone immediately, you're going to lose unless they screw up, so killers get used to having to destroy someone ASAP (and then teams that don't play at top efficiency get completely destroyed.) Playing in a way that's fun for everyone is objectively less effective than playing ruthlessly, and frequently leads to getting mocked by the other players, and that's a real issue from a general fun standpoint.

And on the flipside, I rarely see survivors let up if the killer is obviously struggling, either. So often do I see the killer get their first down at 2 gens left and all the others rush in for flashlight and sabo plays. I'm always like... c'mon, guys, just let them have the damn hook. (If it's me, sometimes I'll just stand there after the save and wait patiently to be downed again.)

Add in that the chat often goes over like a sack of dicks regardless of how charitably you played, and yeah, the general mood in this place drains you.

This game simply offers no incentives for killers to play nice or interact. We all know this: if you let a survivor escape, you lose MMR as a killer and if you want to increase your MMR, you have no choice but to play dirty and that makes me very sad.

  • @Phasmamain said:

    Flashlight griefer?

clicker, im sry. It is simply a matter of the principle. If you focus on fun and play fair you will still be punished by BHVR with a negative MMR

  • @RekLaw said:

At first you may think no, how could it be it’s a perk that the devs put in for a reason. However it ruins an outlet for fun for the survivors and is very much not enjoyable for them.

Just because something isn't enjoyable or because something spoils the fun of the game doesn't mean it's toxic. Treads like this are disgusting and make me sick. Everything in this game is NOT TOXIC. Doesn't matter if it's teabaggin, camping and so on.... the only thing that is toxic is the endgame chat and nothing else. Stop calling game elements toxic or creating threads with this topic, no matter if it is toxic or not. It's terrible...

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

Right, so in this scenario just report them for a chat offence (whatever that option is in German; I'd ask my bf but he also plays in English lol). That saves the chatlog, which is all that's needed. If you do fill out a report with screenshots, use the Username. If Support then ask you for a Steam64 ID, send them back a slightly passive aggressive email until they realise where they went wrong and all is good in the world.

I know it's not about that, I just said. They won't do nothing about it. They just added censorship.

What is censored on the screen is nothing compared to what is still there. It's a pity that something like this is not censored. As I said, it's German.... if you translate it into English, you fall over :(

  • @Sakurra said:

The biggest problem of this game is hateful speech, not the fact it's unbalanced how others say.

It's not explicitly about what others think about balance, it's about what you can see on my screens and whether developers handle that kind of thing. But yes, of course you are also right

  • @Mandy said:

I really do not think you can compare racism with teabagging - that's quite baffling.

You're right, but you know what's sad? That those who have nothing to do with it also have to suffer by losing deserving skins because of some racists. Yes, I know you are compensated with 6000 shards.... but it's still sad :(

Literally all of the people making comments about how the the faces should've remained even though they KNOW that they were being used as a tool to harass and bully POC streamers.

IMO being complacent when blatant racism is happening is just as bad.

Wait a minute! I ( for example ) didn't even know that there were such idiots who use skins as tools (which is a shame and a scandal). Just because I regret that the faces will no longer exist doesn't mean I'm racist. I would be careful with such statements!

  • @Mandy said:

It's not about "whiners" it's about the fact that these were proven to be used to harass our players in a hateful manner - that's not something we're going to support and we're certainly not going to make it easier for people to do this in our game.

Well, it was fun to do the challenges to be able to play the different faces freely. It's a shame to have to go this route because of some racist rats, but I think it's the only right decision. The 6000 shards as compensation makes it a bit more bearable for me and I can live with that. But... what about the black Huntress mask? Will it hit her too?

  • @Dionysus42 said:

These are legitimate strategies that are part of the game and will NEVER be removed 🙂

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2725754#Comment_2725754

What I have said before, previously, is that if you are being that aggrevated by BM through in-game actions (clicking, tbagging, kebabing, nodding, etc) that you suffer physical pain and break things then you most likely have an underlying issue that you should at least consider looking into. I speak from personal experience there- getting annoyed enough at a video game to break keyboards and punch holes through a wall eventually allowed me to contact my local GP and got referred to a councilling service for anger management, and they recommended therapy to help work through the underlying issues.

There's a stark difference, imho, between BM through in-game actions and actual, genuine toxicity through words. I do not BM, I hate it, I would never do it without serious provocation first, and I'd like that made clear. However, I also accept that you can never remove it from online games, and so in circumstances like that it's best to try and seek help for yourself, either through taking breaks from the game, or seeing a medical professional.

In circumstances like this, however, where people are going through previous names just to harass your appearance, or mocking the fact that your significant other died of cancer, or telling you to (in less polite words) commit scooter ankle, or any other form of harassment like that, it should never be allowed. In both scenarios, the blame is placed on the perpetrator of the actions, and in both scenarios they are dicks for doing so. However, in one, they should be punished, and in the other, it cannot be realistically removed or punished without affecting normal gameplay so looking for alternative methods for coping with what you feel is the best case scenario.

I hope that makes sense? Small amounts of BM are unavoidable and if it's causing major distress there's probably another unaddressed issue there you should look into for your general wellbeing (I know my knuckles appreciate it much more when I don't use them to break the wall, and having healthier ways of coping has helped me outside of DBD too). Large amounts of genuine hatred and other such harassment should never be tolerated, and the perpretrators should be punished. It's not the fault of the person being harassed in either case.

I also agree with this 100%. There is no better way to describe something like this

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2725022#Comment_2725022

We may disagree on game balance quite heavily but yes, this. This absolutely 100% all the way.

I also agree with this 100%

  • First of all, thank you @GoodBoyKaru and all the other´s here for your comments and oppinions. Yes, I admit it: if there is something that really hurts me, it is sadism. In principle, it doesn't matter how you act as a killer. If you play fair, you either get a stupid commend or if you don't play fair, you get negative things too. Somehow it doesn't matter how you do it. It's always wrong... I don't know if others feel the same way or if I'm the only one here. But what I notice is that the positive aspect in the game is getting less and less. In over 6800 hours (by my self) there was only 3x someone who wrote. "Man, that was a great game and I really enjoyed playing against you". But I would also be interested to know if our moderators and Devs here @MandyTalk, @Rizzo90, @Gcarrara , @Peanits, @EQWashu and so on, also had to make such experiences.... and if so how do you deal with it ?

Simple example. DH should work like Mettle of Man

Do you have a better suggestion?

  • @ad19970 said:

So just the invulnerability frames, without the distance? Cause I am pretty sure no one would use Dead Hard if that was the case. Good killers generally just wait out the Dead Hard if it's only used for dodging a hit. So with a nerf like this, survivors would need insane luck with timing to ever get this perk work against good killers just once.

So they would all end up just switching over to Sprint Burst. Or another exhaustion perk.

Look at this: This means: Design a perk with automatic function from a perk to be used actively. The sprint boost you get after a hit still exists

If bhvr knew who had and lost legacy then there wouldn't be a problem to begin with. They would just get it back with no need to "work for it".

This suggestion is just a backdoor way to give legacy to everyone.

No it's not, this is just about those who lost their skins because of the bug.

    @Pepsidot said:

The most practical way that BHVR could refund legacy is by looking at player's prestige achievements before the 24th November 2016. They can only verify one set of legacy though so they'd have to allow players to choose which original character they want the legacy on. The only other downside to this is that potential achievements cheaters way back in 2016 before the deadline may also get legacy.

Mathieu did actually mention in 2017 that in order to refund legacy that they'd "be using mostly the timestamps of the achievements, so when you got your achievements specifically". Never happend, though.

I wouldn't support re-introducing legacy in the way you describe because it would alienate the rest of the players who still retain their legacy skins.

The last two points you wrote are extremely interesting. I just do not know how much effort is behind it and the last point is just difficult. I just assume that it is BHVR too much work, or the risk is just too high.

I know I already posted a thread and Ill try to not post a lot but wow. I wasn't even playing killer I was playing solo survivor and we got a three man escape in a match against scratch mirror Myers at Lery's. The Nancy called me a "dumb Jill" (I was playing with Claire by the way) sending voice messages for not going to get Claudette even though he was on death hook in the injured state and I had to body block for him and an injured jane. I was on death hook too as I won a could of chases, Myers beat me in some and was basically getting chased all game. Point is I have never seen someone be pissed even though he escaped. I asked if the Claudette was his friend but got no answer (they were on two different platforms so idk) and I was respectful towards him too.

No matter what choices you make as a killer. There will ALWAYS be someone who won't like them. Yes, I've had a lot of survivors who were salty, even though they survived in the end. That's normal in DBD and you should just accept it.

The attitude of "I want to be right" or "I'm winning this argument" is childish. There is nothing more to say

  • I am not being childish, because there is a very specific reason why I wrote a post like this. First, Mandy is absolutely right about what she writes and I had that in mind from the beginning. But constantly reading in the official forum and on other platforms that BHVR was supposedly afraid because of VHS, deleting posts and so on, finally made me mad and want to test the game myself. It was the same with F13 back then. BHVR is dead, DBD won't be around much longer and so on. In the end, however, something else showed up. That's why I made this post here. Yes, it's nice that this genre is evolving and it's nice that there are and will be more games, but I stand by my opinion: DBD is and will remain #1 for me.

As I've said on various threads about this now...both games can co-exist. The genre is plenty big enough for more than one game, it's great for the whole genre to bring in more people etc.

I wish the devs of VHS well with their game, they had a rough start on the Beta and I felt absolutely awful for them, because it's horrible putting that much work into something (which they clearly have) and then having things like that go wrong the last minute, we've been there, we know how it feels.

I like it *thumbs up* Mandy

If you are only getting 1 kill, then your MMR will drop so that you will eventually get matched with survivors more at your skill level. It does take some time however.

I don't think it's an issue with DS personally, since it was changed I've been hit by one DS and that was only because I'd forgotten who I'd hooked as I tend to keep a mental note of this.

Locker into DS - is a way to avoid being slugged so I don't have a problem with it in the slightest.

I'd also add, I don't think it's just at specific MMR levels that DS is used. It's pretty much across the board from mid and up. And as nobody knows what MMR level they are at...I would suggest not focusing on what MMR you think you play at, and just focus on finding your enjoyment in the matches.

oh that last part......goes down like oil. There's no better way to put something like that. Thanks

  • Again 2 new tickets and the whole thing just does not end. The higher the MMR, the more cheaters. I am tired and very tired of having to write new support tickets all the time just because the cheater situation is escalating. The internet is full of hacks like this. This can't be true anymore .... 😡

They didn't implement MMR in the first time because they said it was based on kills /deaths and that wasn't a good way to measure skill level. Now they implemented it based on kill/deaths because potato.

Yes, I remember that. Someone from the developers posted it here in the official forum. But later it was edited. I strongly assume that another calculation is not possible in a game like DBD. (speculation)
