You can disable it in the config files.
Used to be able to. Not anymore, and BHVR won’t tell us why.
-
This needs to keep getting bumped up to the top. The devs/mods have had plenty of time to provide some sort of response/explanation for why there’s no option to disable this. Hell, they spent all week replying to threads about David. Their lack of response or explanation is intentional and it’s extremely frustrating.

I haven’t really played in over a month and wondering how it’s going. It’s more like two or three months. I’ve played maybe three matches in that time. Just curious how the state of play was doing after the killer rework stuff.
Forced anti-aliasing is causing problems for some players, myself included. Game has performed fine until this update and now I’m getting a lot of stutters/frame drops.
Im also tired of playing against Legion every single match

I'm kinda new to the game and this is the first time I've played consistently through a new patch of this size. Played off and on since launch but this is the first time I dumped any amount of money and hours into the game.
I'm seeing many people complain and make blanket statements about the devs ability to deal with patch integrity. It's hard to differentiate between honest critique and internet people just being internet people
Is post-patch always this bad? Not complaining, at least that isn't my intent, but does this happen frequently with their patches? Trying to decide if I want to stick around and get annoyed at bad coding every couple of months.
this is by far the worst I’ve seen a patch affect the performance of the game on my PC.

Especially solo queue…I‘ve been playing it for years and almost always on solo queue but as of right now it‘s literally unplayable or atleast suuuuper unfun and frustrating. Legion every single game probably for the entire tome 😂 That is just unbearable… I‘m honestly thinking about quitting this game even tho I don‘t want to…I‘m hoping for new fresh content (new maps) and sth to keep us veteran players playing because this game has been very stale in the last few months…Anyways I just wanted to complain hope you‘re having a better day that me and wish you a good evening :)
Solo queue is definitely hit and miss. I’ve been escaping about 40-50% of the time and I’m by no means a highly skilled player. It’s pretty much luck of the draw with your teammates. Sometimes they go AFK or DC on their first down, sometimes they can loop the killer for a few minutes.
Its definitely not as bad as some well-known posters on this forum make it sound.

Still not a single word on Anti Aliasing yet it's odd you guys finally addressed GhostFace's music being completely crap you acknowledged that rather quickly but why is it you guys are like that dog with the burning house meme (Everythings fine guys they love Anti Aliasing)
If you think it's helping peoples performance allow me to be the one to break it to you guys but stuttering is worse and frames are worse, instead of trying to slap a bandaid on it, which is what Anti Aliasing is, you could optimize your game. Does anyone actually want this awful setting forced? I want to see proof people asked for this if so.
Replying to bump this back to the top :). Yeah, it’s bad. I’ve never had performance issues this bad with the game (I play on PC). Just a simple explanation from BHVR to say “this is why we have AA active and no option for you to change it” would be nice - that would take about two minutes of someone’s time. The fact that we can’t even get that from them is really sad.

I have put the last 6 months since June 2021 (5th anniversary) where many players arrived for Nemesis, the point is that the players have gotten worse, I mean, a massive loss that dead by daylight never had, with this I mean that, BHVR should listen more to their community and make MASSIVE changes to their game already.
I have an idea why they have scheduled patches, so, we have patches with very little content to patches like the one we had a couple of months ago (THE MID CHAPTER with a lot of changes to killers) as a player from 2016 I loved it , but I want to see more.
The loss of players that we are having in these 6 months was never had by dead by daylight and I am going to say factors:
1.- BHVR does not pay much attention to its community
2.- They don't focus on the real imbalance problem (Core of the game, objectives (totems, repair gens...), kill survivors (tunneling and camping), maps (RNG of the maps)
3.- MMR (this is not a competitive game)
4.- The game could be very repetitive for 2016 players, so they leave.
Within 1 month we will have the 6th anniversary stream, where BHVR will communicate their plans for the 6th year of DBD where we will be able to know their ROADMAP and I am looking forward to it as a player of 2016, since they have promised a lot, but done very little (Reworks Moris, keys, grind etc etc...)
For me, they should currently focus on the MMR, on the problems that the game has like: Camp and Tunnel and on the part of the survis, the only objective to "win" the generators and.. MAPS ofc.
This is super important, but I know that DEAD BY DAYLIGHT will never be 50/50 balanced, because it's hard, but it can be done with effort and listening to the community, that's all I have to say, thank you!
There’s no doubt that introduction SBMM and boons (a secondary objective for killers) lines up with the start of this consistent decline in players. SBMM made the game way more consistently sweaty and stressful for higher skilled players, and boons (particularly CoH) made it even more difficult for killers to apply any kind of pressure to coordinated survivor teams, leading to tunneling and camping before more necessary for killers to secure kills. The game feels way more stressful and sweaty for a lot of players than it did before these two things were introduced to the game. There’s also the constant frustration of game updates causing issues for a lot of players (most recent update seems to be causing performance issues for a lot of players).

Yes. I play in US eastern time zone on PC. This issue occurred very rarely for me in the past, but it’s far worse than ever before with this update. This is by far the most poorly optimized game I have in my library. My PC runs every other game I have just fine.

I meant I don’t believe you have this tough of a time playing survivor. I’m not very good, I play solo queue, and I escaped probably half the time. Just stop it or play killer if it’s so easy and OP.

The first game of the day with an offering screen showing three party streamers so I thought this might actually be a good game. Nope, the killer said NO WAY IS THAT HAPPENING! It was a Twins and they proceeded to slug non-stop unnecessarily. The killer put Victor at the hook to watch Nea on the hook and proceeding to slug another one. I managed to finish the gen in the Asylum and recovered someone on the ground. Then, the Twins slugged two in the building and as I tried to go save someone they saw me and downed me outside.
After one was camped to death, the second one gave up while I was slugged.
He couldn't go ahead and hook me to get more points, he left me on the ground to find the last player. This is with three party streamers. Purposely playing this way with 4 or 5 gens still remaining to deny a fun match to prevent others from getting points. Killers are overwhelmingly overpowered in a very unhealthy manner. It is too hard for survivors to finish their objectives.
This is what happens in about 9 out of 10 matches in Dead by Daylight. I don't believe BHVR is aware how bad survivor gameplay is:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/NJD3PRK6WZQJ/20220428170246-1.png
And killers are using Sloppy Butcher now that CoH is drastically nerfed. It is very unfun to take a very long time to heal, are we going to see a nerf to Sloppy Butcher???
Killers need some meaningful nerfs. Twins needs a major rework so slugging is not kindergarten easy. There is no way this game will last much longer if something is not done about how unfun and impossible survivor is.
I'm already done after one game.
I don’t believe you

It can't be that hard to just make this an in game option, so those who want a smoother game while sacrificing quality will be able to have that and those who want a good looking game will be separated. Forcing this on everyone isn't the answer Behavior making it an ingame setting is. This is only going to cause people to use Filters more for the sharpening to mediate this awful blurry effect out.
It’s super frustrating that BHVR continues to simply ignore this. Unless I missed something with official announcements from them. Custom graphics settings have been requested for a long time and are pretty standard for just about any other game out there. It’s yet another simple thing BHVR could do to make the game a better experience for its players but they continue to refuse to do so.

Honestly I think they did a great job this update.
-Representation of gay people (regardless of how you feel about who they chose)
-Legion feels stronger
-Legion chase music is pretty cool.
-Haddonfield feels more balanced (aside from the unreachable totems)
My issues:
-5 hours roughly of play time yesterday and didn't see a single Ghostface.
-On a connected note, I'm taking a short break from DBD because there's way too many Legion's for me to play 1 shot simulator or endless healing simulator
-I think hemorrhage effect can be lowered to 5% (or 6%) per second because that healing bar drops entirely too fast imo
-It's been a little laggy and rubber band-ish for me. Idk if anyone else has been feeling that
My issue is that I’m sick of facing Legion every. single. match. I’m done playing survivor until the fad fades away

I have hardly played the past few days because my drive to startup the game is almost non-existent. Looking at the player counts it appears my sentiment is shared among most.
I watched some Twitch to look at the patch and what I saw was not very encouraging. A popular streamer camping and tunneling everyone out of the match and eventually survivors gave up. I literally saw a Dwight and a Kate looking at a Legion in his eyes asking to be sacrificed because it was impossible for them to win. This is after the killer camped someone unnecessarily in the basement. Survivors not able to escape either and complaining about how bad their teammates are. Can I be reminded why the hatch and keys were ruined? Survivor gameplay is way too hard now. I actually saw no survivors escaping in a span of about 45 minutes.
The patch is 100% killer favored and now Legion is so overpowered there is nobody going to escape. Not to mention how unfun they are to verse. Survivors hit hard with more unnecessary nerfs is really causing a very lack of any enthusiasm. A fun boon mechanic ruined, there is no reason to use them now. I find it disappointing a healing perk has nerfed into the ground while buffing a killer that makes it extremely easy to injure people and actually down. Downing that fourth person is going to probably be happening a lot because of how long Legion can maintain his fast speed.
And now we have an old character with a sexuality change against his will that can potentially be targeted with no way to defend against that.
Balancing and priorities needs to change before the Titanic sinks. I can't be alone with this opinion.
Just got 3 escapes in solo queue against Legion (again). On Midwich, which is widely considered to be a killer-sided map. And I’m not very good. Should I keep updating you on how many times I see a Legion player not getting 4K like you claim they will in every match?

Why is it so important to spread the message officially across the internet that you are gay, trans whatever? If you are really considering yourself and want to live like this then you should do it for yourself not to tell it everyone around you trying to catch their attention somehow?
It just seems to be attention seeking if you scream that out loud just like what happened with David. Again nothing against that, couldnt care less, but why all that official outroar?

Yes - killer queues were very long during off-peak hours yesterday, and survivor queues were pretty short even during peak evening hours (US eastern time zone), so there are definitely a lot more people than usual playing killer with the recent GF and Legion changes. Like others have said, it will go back to normal soon. People will remember how miserable playing killer against coordinated SWF teams is and quit again 😂

No one will get banned without proof, as it has always been.
Targeted harassment has to happen through multiple games and it needs to be proved.
Ok thanks for clearing this up. My concern was killers potentially being banned for harassment when they did not intend to harass a player but were just playing the game normally.

So now what happens if a David player gets tunneled in a game and the player reports the killer for “harassment”?

You what’s also beyond irritating? Playing “fair” by the made-up survivor rule book and getting 2-3 hooks max and 0K because you played against a coordinated SWF team who ran broken loops all game and then used DH for a free health state when they got outplayed and then went to their unlimited healing boon totem when you dropped chase.
Not every match is like this, but when I find myself in one, I’m absolutely going to tunnel.

Hi this is my first ever post on the forums and i'd like to talk about my thoughts as someone who has 1.4K hours on the game! So, theres many killers that usually complain about bully squads being "Toxic" or "Unbeatable" which i'd like to argue they arent, and they are actually an asset to you as a killer player. For those who dont know a bully squad is classified as usually a 4 man swf with flashlights with the intent of bullying the killer by flashlight clicking at them, tbagging and using meta perks. The thing is, these swfs only go for mainly stupid plays and safes they dont intent to win the game or do gens they just purely want to get chased which in my opinon is the best part of dbd and we shouldnt be complaing about them and more encouraging them because I hear so many people complain about 5 minute games and when they finally get a bully squad they call it toxic and unbeatable when it simply isnt the truth. Anyways, what are your thoughts on this subject matter? i'd like to know!
I don’t find the “toxic bully squad” types of teams unbeatable. Like you said, they often go for risky plays. The teams that are near impossible to beat are the super coordinated SWF teams who 1) know how to optimally run every loop and loop combo in the game; and 2) use their comms to split up on gens so that at all times someone is working on a gen. These types of teams don’t beat you by bullying, they beat you with the broken design of the game (map layout and gen speeds + ability to coordinate via comms).

Yes. Before his nerf, he was my favorite killer to play. And then he got nuked into oblivion simply because he had one add-on combo that needed some adjustment. That was one of the most atrocious examples of BHVR implementing changes that nobody was asking for and still to this day they refuse to revert the changes to fix that past mistake.
-
@_AdamFrancis_ said:
Seriously. How was this allowed.
When you combine Dad Boots with Spiked Boots, it creates a really uncounterable combo. There is nothing you can do again this because if you end up avoiding his chainsaw, guess what?
He can instantly turn around and down you. There is no way to strafe or anything to avoid his chainsaw with this combo.
And before you say to hold W, on most open maps that won't matter because he can catch up in seconds.
Even on indoor maps, with this combo you have so much control over your chainsaw it's unfair.
And I understand that it's one of the only things Billy has going for him, but that doesn't mean it should be allowed.
Billy is not that good. You faced a god-tier Billy player, that’s all. He already got nerfed into the ground which is why you barely see him in matches anymore. He doesn’t need any more nerfs.

We are back to March 2020 numbers. A year before the RE update.
So not only did the RE players leave, but lots of others too.
Maybe if BHvR actually did something about the grind (which they created), tunneling meta (which they created), half of killers being awful (which they created), toxicity (which they created), MMR (which they created), meta being the same for five years (which they created), lack of variety (which they created), and hacking they could stop the bleed.
They issued an emergency MMR rework to stop the bleed, looks like it's done nothing.
Instead they just watch the slow decline.
The sad thing is that all of these issues are discussed in the forums multiple times every day, yet there’s no urgency by BHVR to address the glaring issues. I guess they are trying to change the SBMM system to make it “better”, but I think it’s yet to be seen whether that will help anything. A lot of people want to see the SBMM system removed, which will never happen. BHVR are instead doubling down on this broken system.
Everything else you mentioned has been a problem for a long time and we’re seeing the result of not addressing these problems in the continued player count decline.

Does anyone else get hateful messages from players when you are playing the killer. I am not breaking any rules when I play I have already checked to make sure. I play to do all challenges in the archives and that's what I am doing and players are sending me hateful messages. I guess my question is, is this normal? It's a survival/ killer game you either die or survive. People get really mad when they die. WHY?
Why? Because there are, unfortunately, a lot of ######### people in this world who are sociopaths and don’t care how their words or actions affect others. It’s just the reality of the world we live in.
As for what can be done about it, turning off the chat is best. Just turn it off and leave it off - pretend it’s not even there. BHVR really should just get rid of it, because its only purpose is to serve as a platform for toxicity.
-
There is no good reason for not showing MMR. The “best” argument I’ve seen in favor of hiding it is “it keeps players from manipulating their MMR by tanking”, but that is still a terrible argument. Players can still tank their MMR all they want - hiding MMR doesn’t prevent that in any way.
BHVR have been very secretive about game stats with this game forever, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. My personal belief is that the main reason they’re not showing MMR is because it would reveal how broken the matchmaking system is during peak times when there’s a massive shortage of killer players.
-
@PhantomChimera said:
Because you don't need to. Not showing it helps prevent people from abusing it like they did before.
How does it prevent people from abusing it? You can still lower your MMR by going AFK for a bunch of matches in a row.

I think that SWF is killing the game. I wish there was an option not to play against SWF parties because it puts so much stress on the killer against these tryhards that less and less ppl will play the killer.
I agree it would be a far more balanced game without SWF (or at least limit it to 2-man SWF), but very few killers would choose to play with SWF and the pool of SWF players in lobbies would have ridiculously long queue times and they would likely quit the game in droves.
Nobody is ever going to be fully satisfied with the game - it’s a zero sum game. Make one side happier and the other side gets more upset. BHVR have made the calculation that keeping SWF happy is best for generating the most revenue. It’s nothing evil or nefarious - just simply a business decision. Any killer player knows that an experienced, coordinated SWF breaks the game and makes it almost impossible to win, but many still choose to play anyway.

So as someone who actively plays killer, I always get survivors complaining about getting camped, slugged, or tunneled. So here I am explaining why both of them are fair.
Firstly, camping, slugging, and tunnelling is a playstyle. Yes, they can be annoying playstyles, but so can gen-rushing and sabotaging, which are also playstyles. If survivors can gen rush and/or run annoying sabo builds, why can't killers slug, camp or tunnel?
Secondly, they are both necessary in some situations. Camping, slugging, and tunnelling at 1-2 gens is a must if you haven't sacrificed any survivors yet. Slugging slows down the game, which can be helpful on the killers end and eliminating at least one survivor out of the match is top priority at that point.
And thirdly, camping, slugging, and tunnelling is easily counterable. If a killer is camping, rush gens. If a killer is tunneling, rush gens and/or bring DS or other anti-tunnel perks/builds. If a killer is slugging, rush gens and go help your teammates up when you think they are close to being fully recovered.
Yes, they are annoying playstyles, but they are perfectly fine and fair. Survivors can have annoying playstyles, killers can have annoying playstyles and all of them are perfectly fine.
the short answer: because none of those things are against the game rules
-
I really like Lithe and always use it instead of DH. I’ve found that quite often a killer will give up chase after a speed boost vault.

(Almost 700k hours killer main here) So i decided to switch from killer main to survivor main for a week and dbd has been much fun lately. My heart isn't pounding through my chest from the stress of playing killer, 4 people aren't taunting me, i'm not irritated of the second chances survivors get, it's been a much chill experience. Hell even losing as survivor is fun, cuz atleast i don't get 4 people rubbing it in my face "hey you lose, we win". Now the problem is, i don't wanna go back to playing killer at all, why stress my ass off playing killer in this survivor sided game when i can actually have fun as survivor? Gaming is supposed to be fun anyways. So to the killers mains who switched to being survivor mains, did you guys go back to playing killer? Or stuck to survivor?
I still play both sides. I’m usually solo queue when I play survivor, which can be incredibly frustrating. But…tonight was different. I almost never play survivor in the evenings due to long queue times, but I played a few matches tonight (queues were about 5 minutes each time) and we got 3-4 escapes each match. My teammates were awesome. Good chases, body blocking, protection hits, good team rescues when killer was camping - they all knew what to do. I think the SBMM does a lot better job of matching you with similar skill teammates in the evenings when there’s a huge survivor player pool.
If I got teammates like I did in tonight’s matches I might never go back to killer!

This can be extremely annoying. sometimes it will drop immediately when you press drop, and other times you can spam drop and you wont until the survivor wiggles free. This is terible as when you attempting to hook someone and the whole squad is BB you, when i press drop i need to drop. I just had a match against a bully who wanted to do nothing but deny me hooks without bothering to do gens after they got a 3 done. I managed to 3k them but THREE times, when i would try to hook someone 2-3 of them would bum rush me to bb and i would get stunned and lose the hook because the game would not let me drop.
Very frustrating.
i haven’t seen this discussed on the forum before, but it’s definitely a thing. Happened to me a few times today where I wanted to drop survivor but it didn’t work first time I pressed the button. If survivors get instantaneous effect for “press E to outplay”, then killers should have the benefit of instant drop as soon as drop button is pressed.

This has basically repeated for all the other map reworks as well, generally speaking.
It's a losing battle. I don't understand what the issue is.
The issue is that the devs refuse to prioritize this broken element of the game. Shouldn’t be that hard to fix

What will be the difference? Will it get worse or more toxic? I’m genuinely trying to learn
It gets better as you become a better killer but it’s still super frustrating. There are some maps that have multiple strong loops connected to each other and good survivors who have these loops memorized can just run them all day. Really nothing you can do about it other than hope they make a mistake or once you finally down them you camp and tunnel them out of the match.

I doubt it will ever be changed. We’ll keep getting the usual ”we’re looking at it” answer in Q&A. Devs know that any nerfs to DH will upset a huge portion of the player base and probably lose a lot of players. Seems like they prefer a continued slow loss of killer players than a mass exodus of survivor players.

I hate RPD with a passion. I appreciate the hard work that went into making it, but it’s pretty clear there was little regard for the player experience when the map was designed. It’s just miserable to play as killer (way too big, abusable hook dead zones, multi-level boons, etc) and as survivor (I always get lost and can never find gens).

Kudos for you for trying killer - it’s not easy! I respect your opinion a lot more than the survivor mains who are too cowardly to try playing killer but still confidently claim that killers can easily get 4K at high MMR without camping/tunneling or using sweaty meta builds.

Every day I load up this game, play 1-2 games, and hate every second of it because it's just 3-4 survivors with dead hard getting a free window or pallet after being outplayed and it just not mattering with that awful perk. Everyone always asks "why keep playing then" and I've realised that none of my answers were good enough.
I used to be in the "just remove the invulnerability frames" camp, but honestly it would still be the strongest perk in the game by MILES even with that - on demand superman distance is just completely unfair to half the killer roster, and I don't enjoy being locked into the handful that don't care. I'll be back if DH gets a meaningful change.
If it matters to anyone, I consider myself high MMR and have about 2k hours in the game.
It’s understandable. Nearly every match I get multiple instances of survivor “press E to outplay. At minimum, dead hard needs to have tokens added so it has limited uses in a match. Killers have no perks that provide multiple second chances in a match with zero counters or zero downside risk. If they did, survivors would quit the game in droves.
Unfortunately, Dead Hard has been around so long that it’s seen as an entitlement by survivor players. Taking it away or nerfing it will be like the government taking away social security or Medicare.

So got my Iri 1 on killer, time to do some survivor.
I wonder how many others have noticed this.
6am: Yay, instant queues!
3pm: Queues are still zippy.
6pm: Instant killer queues, but my survivor queues are taking a while.
There seems to be a correlation between how long survivor queues are with active player numbers - the more people online, the longer my survivor queues are (and correspondingly fast my killer queues are).
I wonder why.
I play in eastern US time zone. This is the trend I always see: killer queues are longer the earlier in the day you play. Once you get to evening time, survivor queues are 5-10 minutes and killer queues are zero wait. This is because the number of survivor players increases throughout the day and peaks at night. More and more people go online to play with friends as the day goes on, and they are are playing survivor. The % of solo players is higher earlier in the day and they are more likely to pick the killer role. I think another factor is that a lot killer players (myself included) prefer to play earlier in the day when sweaty 4-man SWF bully squads aren’t as prevalent. My daytime matches are almost always more relaxed than evening matches. I work during the weekdays, so unfortunately my ability to select my playing time is pretty limited.
