Tell that to the survivor who was safe unhooked, but killer made it across the map to the hook, went by ignoring all other survivors straight for that one unhooked player xD

Then it wasn't a safe save. Being aware of the Killers presence is apart of the skill playing Survivor.

  • Every day I wake up next to my Hawkins National Laboratory body pillow and cry.

  • Borrowed Time shouldn't be base kit. That would just be stupid, and sure enough the dev's have made some mistakes in the past, but I don't pin them to be that dumb. Even borrowed time as is, is too strong - players shouldn't be rewarded for making unsafe saves, playing without Borrowed Time teaches players how to make safe saves. They would just be shooting themselves more in the foot if they made it base kit because new players will have an even harder time learning basics in the game.

I also don't see any Killer perks should be made base kit. Don't fix what isn't broken.

  • I just jumped on the forums about this, because we just tested it. Since the last update my games have become "jittery" short pauses, freezes, like as if myself or others have a bad connection but we don't get the icon? It's not easy to explain because it is not a connection issue. I normally run 10-30ms, in each match and do not fluctuate over that. The most I have had was 60ms when playing with friends across seas.

  • Brutal Strength > Enduring

It's faster to break the pallet. If you have enduring and get hit by a pallet you still have to take the almost 2 seconds to break that pallet. Save more time learning when to respect pallets, and breaking it with Brutal.

  • Yeah, they summed up pretty much everything wrong with the game in one "tournament".

  • Ngl it's pretty funny that a problem in the game is that one side has the ability to do their objective so fast that it is not fun for either side.

  • It doesn't seem like many people know they just have to jump in a locker to remove the crows instead of giving the Artist a free NES duck game.

  • One's power is canceled by getting in a locker, and pre-dropping. The other's is cancelled by holding crouch, and flashlights.

Why would it be a question why they don't get played often?

  • @TeabaggingGhostface said:

An easy way to fix this would be to either cancel frenzy after the second hit on the hooked guy or make the hits on hooked guys not count towards it

I wouldn't cancel the power, but having them not count towards feral slash would be appropriate.

  • Imagine wanting to nerf the killer that is so easy to counter you just don't heal.

It’s not your personal sexuality. You are not being marketed or glorified.

Davids in-game reveal is not poor representation at all. And not for direct monetary gain. The tweet was maybe overdone but… if they wouldn’t have done it others would come out and say it was handled poorly as well.

Right. A big marketing announcement, blog posts, and public self pats on the back is totally not marketing at all.

Well here is a polling of the best killer perks in DBD, so I would say hundreds of people disagree with that.

As do I. There's tons of killers who can activate DMS globally. Onryo, Freddy, Demo, Doctor, Pinhead, etc etc.

Pain Res can do it for every killer as well, and even if the survivors start playing around it by then it might even be too late.

A single pain res DMS is what, 12s from pain res and 45s from DMS. So 57 seconds of slowdown and you don't even have to go out of your way to do it. That's 3 pop goes the weasels of slowdown and you don't even have to stop what you are doing to kick a gen.

Not enough people use dennisreep.nl for it to be an accurate take on what's popular.

https://nightlight.gg/ uses data taken from the servers to keep their statistics somewhat more accurate.

  • Once survivors get the quick message radial or information icons then solo que isn't going to be so bad.

Oh nope. That's the real skill gap with her in trying to time your misdirects when they lose sight of you. Unfortunately it's currently too short of a disappearance and the phasing in and out doesn't last long enough after manifesting which is why I'm trying to get both of them lengthened. It's not really practical basically. The skill potential is almost there, but it's currently just not good enough to matter even if you do time it perfectly.

Yeah makes sense, I would like that buff.

The only gripe I've had with Sadako is that "Demanifest" isn't a word.

  • Oh I think I know what you mean. I thought her disappearing there was just Killer animation the Killer could see, while survivors could still see my physical form. Like how Freddy's phasing works.

  • I have yet to have a single issue against or as Legion.

  • I am fine with survivors running meta perks as long as they are not running perks that help them meet their objective.

  • Is that why that flickering keeps happening in my games? I assumed that was just BHVR having terrible servers?

  • Is post-patch always this bad? Usually

It's hard to differentiate between honest critique and internet people just being internet people. That is correct.

  • Exploit? Are you talking about equipping Boiled Over, Flip-Flop, and Unbreakable and then sitting at the top of the Library? Seems the survivors you faced used Boon Exponential in place of unbreakable.

  • @Blueberry said:

-Remove lullaby, it defeats the entire point of being a stealth killer.

-Remove slowdown switching between phases. Her Demanifested isn't good enough to warrant this, she doesn't get a speed up like Wraith or anything.

-Condemn builds up passively. The survivors should need to be more worried about it than they currently are and need to waste time lowering it. I don't want Exposed added like some people have mentioned because I don't want Condemn to be more deadly, I just want it to slow the survivors down on gens with a secondary objective.

-Remove the directional queue of her teleporting. It's bad enough they get a global queue, the location as well is too much. It's not too difficult to be aware of the tv's around you, you can even hear them.

-Amp up her passive phasing to give it a little more reliability in anti-loop. Make it more frequent and last longer. I like that this also increases her skill gap of good players as they will get better at trying to time their direction changes with her disappearances.

And let the Killer player know when she phases out so they can learn to time it.

Steam Chrts are an indication but to really see you need the console numbers which you don´t have.

If there are 100k+ on consoles this would be still very high overall.

I only hope they improve the game before it really loses big.

And if they let their Steam playerbase fall just because they are doing fine from bringing in crossplay then they would be going back on their promise that they made not to forget about where they started.

Though It's clear that they see the numbers and are trying to do things about it now. Look at this slew of Killer buffs, and a whole survivor sided map rework into a Killer sided map. We have the DMS PR combo that hasn't been touched since it was found, but COH and Boiled Over have taken their fair share of changes, and promises of changes to come to Dead Hard.

MMR reworked which appears to favor Killers better, or at least not run them out as quickly as before.

I am sure there are more changes to come, just hopefully they know when to pull the plug before the next problem is the survivor playerbase jumping ship.

  • Does Facebook ever remind you of a post you made that was straight cringe?

I mean, the article linked in the other thread mentioned the research that they did on the subject, so idk.

Yeah their whole "We did research, because we said we did, please believe us" article. Which in the article it seems their research reached the limits of a proactive reddit forum, and no further. Literally you can change every word of Behavior to Blizzard, and every word of David to Tracer and you get the same thing that happened in Overwatch.

Next they will be randomly mentioning Yui's gay with an image, because of their "research". (Popular character liked by the LGBT+ community, same thing happened with Soldier 76 in Overwatch).

Though I have no place to argue, by technicalities it means BHVR met their promise, and this represents some people I am sure. It appears to be more of a marketing direction which is what is disappointing to see. I had expected professional writing and story-telling for a whole new character that many can relate to, but at the same time be it's own story (which makes it more relatable).

Edit: Though they did mention in the article they plan to BRING more LGBTQ+ characters to the game, so fingers crossed, we might get a more relatable LGBTQ+ character. I'm not giving up hope.

Why do you assume that he wasnt gay to begin with? They kept the majority of the characters vague enough that they never confirmed they were gay or straight. Felix has a wife but that doesnt make him strictly straight. Why does david having a girlfriend in the past mean he cant come out as gay later? it isnt retconning, its exploring the previous characters that they have.

I much prefer them exploring the characters that they have rather than constantly adding new ones and not giving original the ones the love, attention, care, and stories that they deserve. If they just kept adding characters without enough story then we would end up in another overwatch situation where the lore is a mess.

It's funny you mention Overwatch when this situation is the same copy/paste "We've made one of our characters gay to shut up the masses" that Overwatch did.

It's less of just having a gay character, and more of having an LGBT+ character that you connect with from their initial lore instead of it being thrown in after.

It's the whole throwing in after the fact that makes it appear forced. After the outrage, after the demands, and after the authenticity. It's also the same situation copy/pasted from many other game companies. "We need a gay character" "This character is liked by the gays" "This character is now gay". Instead of connecting with your LGBT+ community, researching their past, what they had to deal with, what they were feeling, and the characters they connect and empathize with to use as references, etc. Basically ignoring all the work and research into good character creation.

  • Oh the progress flag! Yay! I'm included :)

  • Been getting a lot of players that don't like Canadians either, and I don't understand how being Canadian means you play a certain way or is a negative type of way?

I thought the consensus for the most part was that Canadians were nice people?

But if the goal is to have something more substantial than simply making a character gay because of a marketing stunt, then surely you'd need to write something more substantial than just noting that a character has a partner of the same gender, right?

If you want some legitimate representation that's taken seriously, then for this game specifically, it'd be in a tome. Tomes, by and large, are for established characters, and if you're going to pick a character to expand on in this manner, who better than a character who is already considered a good pick by the community and is explicitly from an area with a huge LGBT community?

You say that a new character with a passing mention would be subtle, and surely that's not a good thing? Surely it'd be better, more impactful, more interesting representation if it actually matters and is relevant to a story being told?

I think you're misunderstanding, or I'm not understanding you. Like yes it would be interesting, matter, and relevant to the story of the character. Subtle as in "Not everything about this character is being gay and LGBT+" and not "We're making this character because we have to get a gay character". It's not really easy to describe professional story-writing as a person who hasn't studied professional story-writing, but what I am trying to get across is that it's easier to slap a "This is gay" sticker on an already made character, and then have in the next lore chapter "by the way I'm gay, and here's how it went" than it is to flesh out a whole new character with an elaborate story that apart of their background is being LGBT+ and that having some kind of impact (but not entirely what the character is about etc).

Maybe in simplest terms, take the time to research the LGBT+ community, their backgrounds, their stories, and more than just them being LGBT+. Create a character around that. Flesh out their reality, etc, story writing, character creation. Instead of just "this is gay" sticker like other game companies did.

Heck they could of brought a natural LGBT+ character to the game, and then just mentioned David's gay in his lore later on and that may have been more fitting, but it appears they chose to go slap a "I'm gay" sticker on a fan favorite and then announce like they did a good job. Then if it comes up that it was forced they turn around and make another character gay the same way because they don't understand what real representation is like. The connected feeling you get with the character reading their lore for the first time, and inclusiveness - I can't really describe it because again I am not a professional writer, that can explain great character creation.

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2923012#Comment_2923012

May I ask, genuinely, what about this is forced?

I'd argue that doing it in a tome where there's room to actually explore it and make it a relevant part of a story is much more natural than, say, a new character who has base lore mentioning a partner of the same gender. I'd very much like to hear the opposing side here, because I don't see a more natural way to do it than this.

It's certainly better than saying Soldier 76 is gay and then doing nothing with that fact, surely?

You said yourself "new character who has base lore mentioning a partner of the same gender." sounds about right, transitioning character, or testing the waters, etc - things that many of us experienced we can connect to in a storytelling way. Most likely the path I would take. Natural and subtle enough that it fits in the world that's already been established.

I would sooner ask you what isn't forced about this? It looks like a classic move by BHVR's marketing. Same kind of move made by other gaming companies that don't care enough to put in the effort. "We need an LGBT+ character. How do we do this the easiest way possible? We know that a lot of LGBT+ ship Dwight and David, and a lot of LGBT+ are attracted to David. David it is", then they called up Phil Swift to slap "THIS IS GAY" on the character. Then get their lore team to write about it, and then got their communications person to tweet about it.

Hey Blizzard why isn't there a LGBT+ character? Blizzard marketing "Alright we need a LGBT+ character. A lot of people ship Tracer and Widow, and a lot LGBT are attracted to Tracer. Tracer it is." hen they called up Phil Swift to slap "THIS IS GAY" on the character. Then get their lore team to write about it, and then got their communications person to tweet about it. It continues for Blizzard "Tracer being gay seems to be forced, what's up with that?" and Blizzard responds, "no - not forced at all, and guess what Soldier 76's gay! haha" while in their notes they recognized that most people considered him Daddy, and a lot of the LGBT were attracted to him.

It's not just them, other game companies did it too. It's easier than making a whole new character - I get that. At least it's some representation too. Beggars can't be choosers, especially when money is involved.

  • @JimbusCrimbus said:

    Cool?

As a fellow gay person myself, here's the part where I don't really care. shrug lol

Ohhhh they retroactively made a character gay. Big POG. It took them YEARS to do that. But yes, let's give them all the praise in the world, for taking this long, do to something as important as representation, and half-assing it like normal.

My feelings exactly. The only thing I asked for when it came to representation was it not to be forced. Like Blizzard did in Overwatch. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see an already introduced character made gay as a way to basically say "Alright shut up about it now", and with this big announcement like "give us credit for forced representation, because representing you naturally was too much to ask for".

But whatever I already assume all these game companies are the same at this point. BHVR is no different than Blizzard. At least it appears they didn't do it for marketing gain, which has been another problem with representation.

If stigma mattered no one would play survivor because NOED has a stigma of being cheap, overpowered and unbeatable. No, it's something there beyond stigma for a whole portion of the community to want out of it and in most cases having left the game. My friends list for DbD is just about extinct.

But the numbers are in decline (-4000 so far this month and it isn't over yet) and will continue to be, so you will deal with the inevitability of the situation soon enough. The issue will be resolved, or you won't have anyone to play with.

If the question of bots on the survey didn't ring a bell of awakening for you then nothing will. Maybe you think bots will be fun, but they won't be. They will be static and predictable and will not be satisfying to win against like all bots. You will also have an insurmountable issue to contend with, the devs rather, and that is that a bot doesn't know how to play like a human. It will register a hit that it knows is makeable and make the hit. It will never second guess itself. Humans do. They will either be unbeatable or exploitable and pointless.

Espousing the same dogma on the forums might work in creating a theatre of opposition on the forums but it won't have the slightest effect on the objective reality in the game.

If only survivors and the devs would unplug the bananas from their ears and listen. I am a good killer. I have about 1700 real hours of experience playing as one and I play them all. I don't mind the challenge of SWF, I simply want to know I am playing against one, maybe showing their combined MMR so I know just how strong to equip. I don't want to decimate a low MMR group of SWF just because they are SWF. I don't like to piss away my BP because I don't find grinding it fun. I don't like to use UR addons and meta builds against solo queues and new guys, however I need those to give SWF high MMR groups an appropriate challenge. Not knowing and having to guess is problematic. I should be warned and given the chance to equip and prepare for the more mentally taxing match and a small bonus of BP (even if it's for everyone including survivors) would be all the incentive I need. That is a reasonable request. Our side is reasonable. The survivor side is not.

No one wants DbD to flounder and die off.

You lot claim you just want good games with your friends but rally against giving the gamemaster (the killer) any tools to affect that. But then we both know you lot don't really want good games, you want to decimate the killer which is why you offer endless counter propaganda to any change in regards to it. You are very quickly approaching the rubicon of DbD matchmaking and the devs will soon make a choice or the choice will be made for them. The idea DbD is going to bounce back is wishful thinking and completely ignoring the fact that most of the popular streamers have left. There isn't a popular license that is going to save the day.

I am a Killer main with over 4000 hours in the game? Are you new here - I thought most people already knew this? I advocate for Killers enough at least. I also thought this thread was about having the option to not play against SWF? You're talking about being able to see if they are a SWF, or at least how strong of a mmr you are facing. I lean closer to seeing the MMR level you are facing if they ever choose to start showing player MMR at all, but again if these statistics are shown before a match then we run into the problem of Killer's lobby dodging and Survivors with high mmr never getting into a game, Killers leaving because they reach a point where they can only find matches with players with high mmr, etc.

I am 100% for seeing if survivors were in a SWF in the end game scoreboard though. I feel like that would help Killers understand "Oh so that was a team with some coordination (through comms etc)" and can learn from that. Instead of so many newer Killers sitting in end game lobbies trying to know why they lost, or just assuming they lost to a SWF instead of learning from their own mistakes.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

There must be something wrong with it then. If it wasn't then it wouldn't matter.

There's this stigma that SWF makes some kind of HUGE impact on the game, but it really doesn't. It's very rare that you actually face a SWF that plays like they are SWAT team, and most games that the Killer feels like the Survivors were way too strong tend to be a team of experienced Solo players.

Honestly if they just showed who was SWF in the end game scoreboard that may alleviate some of the stigma.

  • Killers would only play against Solo's, it would straight up kill being able to play with friends.

  • They can't because they would be banning people for having cyber security.

I realize this is just snide bait but lets bite anyway...

That doesn't make it more exciting, its survival horror not x-men. Survivors should be vulnerable in the endgame.

There are plenty of marvel themed games where the heroes always win and nothing surprising ever happens.

Who would watch a horror film where the antagonist is in no way threatening? DBD is basically recreating that setting. It baffles me that people want survivor to be uber godlike or even equal to the killer 1v1. Survivors are already at their best position during the egc because their objective is complete.

Also what you suggest already basically exists its called adrenalin.

The dumbest thing I've ever read on these forums is someone saying "they never feel safe as survivor" but its survival horror you're not meant to feel safe. The whole premise of the game is this isn't safe you need to get out before you get killed.

Why do you play this game if not for the theme of it?

If you want a watered down party game experience where all's friendly, equal and no one ever dies, play Fall Guys... its great I play a lot of it but its not DBD. Why people want to turn DBD into Fall Guys baffles me.

Probably shouldn't of taken the bait. Because you said endgame, and this commenter said EGC. They were changing the narrative of your comment.

Honestly Survivors should be escaping if they are still around during EGC. As far as making End Game more exciting for survivors - it already is, they still have to open one of two doors.

  • Freddy? He has all the kit a Killer needs, but enough information to the survivors to be easily countered by a good team. It's a good way to practice playing Killer through trial and error and then reflect those skills onto other Killers with less of a kit.

Or you could just practice Nurse, Spirit, and Blight from the get go and stomp every survivor team you face and then question why the only Killers you can play confidently are the three meta. The learning curve is steep, but worth it.

By the end you won't get easy matches to learn Killer. A lot of losing, a lot of trial and error, and a lot of pondering if they escaped because you got hit by 1 ds or if you actually played poorly.
